2. APPOSITIVE
•An appositive is a noun, a noun phrase, or noun clause
which is placed next to another word to rename or
describe it
NATHAN , our professor, teaches the writing
appositive
4. Non-Essential Example
My English teacher, Nathan Price, would swim in
the PE building pool every day.
You can take out “Nathan Price” and it will still make sense. So
its ok to put commas.
5. Essential Example
Nathan Price my English teacher would swim in the PE
building pool every day.
But if for some reason you have more then 1 English
teacher don’t put commas because the name is essential
to know which one you’re talking about.
6. Essential Example
• President Obama will be our featured speaker
Obama is necessary to help identify president, so no
commas are necessary.
