• A mild climate:
The average temperature in the summer is 23ºC and 17ºC

Madeira Island is equally famous for the beauty of its
landscapes and natural patrimony, namely the
Laurissilva Forest, classified by UNESCO as a World
Natural Heritage.
8. PORTO SANTO ISLAND

• It is the smallest of the inhabited islands of the Madeira
archipelago;
• It has 9 km of thin golden sand.
18. ALL ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
• An elementary and secundary school with 1200
students, of whom more than 100 have special needs.
• The School offers a structured teaching unit for students
with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Around ten students
are part of this unit. Even though they are not full-time
in a regular class, they still partake in some activities
with the other students.

• The number of foreign students has been increasing all
over the years. At the moment, there are about 50
students from a huge variety of countries.
• We gladly accept those students. We also do a lot of
inclusion activities so they feel more accepted in our
school.

27. • Have about 30 elderly people who are joined by another
30 in the valence of the day center.
• Provided the necessary health and hygiene care, or
occupation of leisure time through activities of social
others considered indispensable.
28. • The “Lar vale Formoso” is located in Funchal, near
our school.
• This Institution offer social support activities and
are developed for the elderly collective
accommodation, temporary or permanent.

Sagrada Família, located in Funchal, was founded in 1950.
• Is one of the twelve Centers created by the Portuguese
Province of the Congregation and directed by the Institute of
the Hospitaller Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

It is a health facility with specialized
intervention in mental health from Childhood to
Adolescence, child psychiatry, multideficiency

36. GAROTA DO CALHAU
"Garotos do Calhau" is the
designation by which the
young people who used to
travel the beaches of Madeira
were once known, displaying
to the tourists the art of the
Diving.
Nini Andrade Silva adopted
this designation and made it a
symbol of art, culture, beauty
and generosity.
37. GAROTA DO CALHAU
• It is a private non-profit social welfare institution (IPSS),
founded in March 2003.
• It was born from the need to respond to the problematic
situations underlying the existence of vulnerable social groups
and intends to implement Intergenerational Social Intervention
Projects in the community.
38. In order to promote these projects, the Garota do Calhau
promoted six community centers in the Municipality of
Funchal.
39. PROJETS 2017-2018
• They helped probably this year 250
children and 250 elder people.
• They did 25 projects of social support.
• This summer they intend to take 300
children out of the streets (funny
vacation).
• Occupation of children of needy
families.
