Bicycle Safety in Focus: Preventing Fatalities and Seeking Justice
Digi pack evaluation
1. How does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
- Digi Pack -
2. Similarly to my website, my digipak also conforms to the
typical conventions of an indie pop artist. Again, it links
together the idea of simplicity, colour and a slightly retro
feel. I decided to place the photograph of Poppy in the
centre of the digi pack, filling up the whole cover, to
show how the music is personal to her and she was the
mind behind the music. I placed the title and name of
the artist at the bottom left hand corner, because I felt
her face should be the first thing that her fans see, as
they will instantly recognise her.
Layout and design
I decided to use the same font for our artist’s name on the digi pack as on her website, in
order to create brand consistency which would be recognisable to her fans. I also used this
font because it matched the conventions of an organic artist, as it is simplistic. I also used
the same font for the title of the album ‘Breathe’ as well as the personal message to her
fans on the inside page and also for the song titles on the back of the digi pack. I decided
to use this italic, script-like font because it was elegant and girly to appeal to her target
audience, but it also reminded me of writing, which I felt gave the digi pack a very
personal feel, as if she had written it herself, which would help her gain a relationship with
her fans (typical of an organic artist.)

Positioning of the artist
I wanted to keep my digi pack minimalistic and simple, while still being
chic and sticking to the theme of the music video and website. The
colours I used were girly, fun, bright and youthful, which was exactly the
colour scheme I needed in order to represent my artist’s star image. My
digi pack is similar to Lily Allen's because it is a very simple design, with
just a big black ‘L’ but also incorporates the colour pink to stand out,
which is what I have done with my digi pack, as I have made the image
black and white but made ‘Poppy’ pink as well as making the flowers on
her head pink, which will appeal to her young, female fanbase.
I decided to use close-up images because organic artists
tend to portray their true emotions rather than focus on
constructed aesthetics. By using close ups, it allows the
audience to feel personally connected with Poppy. For
the spread of my digi pack (the inner section) I decided to
use a close up again, but this time I wanted to use one
where Poppy was not smiling, as I wanted the audience
to see a more serious side to her in terms of her music, as
well as her usual fun-loving personality.
4. You cannot see any clothing within the images on my digi pack, however, on the front cover, I gave her
flowers in her hair because I felt this added to her organic nature and would appeal to a young, trendy
fanbase who will aspire to be similar to her and be inspired by her fashion sense.
Further, in the middle section, she is in front of a library, showing that she is intelligent and likes to
read, which will send a positive message to her young fans and presents her as a role model to young
females. I also included a thank you message to her fans, and therefore, I felt it needed a serious close
up image to make the message seem more personal and real, rather than just empty words with a
meaningless picture. Similar artists to Poppy such as Kate Nash, Sara Bareilles and KT Tunstall all like to
make dedications on their albums, websites, and other promotional items because they want to gain a
relationship with their fans and want them to acknowledge that they are grateful for their fans’ support
and love. The back page is a very simple design which purely gives the track names and numbers and
also uses Poppy’s signature ‘P’ to further create recognisable iconography.
