The document discusses the design elements of several album digipacks. It describes how the Lana Del Rey digipack uses a close-up portrait on the front to highlight her features and portray her image. It also discusses how the simplicity of the design allows the audience to focus on elements like her outfit, hair and makeup. The document then analyzes how the Rihanna "Loud" digipack uses bright, vibrant colors that correlate to the album name and portray her personality through a cohesive color scheme across pages. Finally, it summarizes how the Kooks "Shine On" digipack stands out through a unique front cover design that forms an image out of many smaller pictures.
2. The front cover shows a medium close up of Lana’s face and top half of her body, by displaying a medium
close up, it highlights the key features of Lana, as it is a low shot and has her looking down at the camera,
this portrays Lana’s attitude and hierarchy. This is a commonly used within the genre of indie, allowing
the artist to create a representation of themselves. The style of the design and how simple it is allows the
audience to focus on the main features such as Lana’s outfit, hair and makeup which tell the audience a
lot about her and her image and music, the constant use of the same features such as her wavy hair,
vibrant coloured makeup and outfit is commonly used throughout her albums and music adverts. Lana
has been pictured outside which is a typical feature seen within the indie genre. The filter that has been
used to soften her photo highlights her music.
The back of the digipack shows Lana’s track list, the same simple font has been used for the track listing
which again creates a visual style. The simplicity of the styled text connotes the simplicity of the album.
The front cover displayed fresh and young colours whereas the back displays dominant and bold colours.
The simplicity of the design relates back to the simplicity of the album. Having such a simple back with
just a plain background rather than a picture of the artist allows the audience to just focus on the names
of the songs rather than just the artist.
The simplicity of white mainly filling the cd makes the colour of the roses become more eye catching
from the background and seem like an important theme throughout the digipack. The use of the roses
could be suggesting the idea of love which could be a common theme featured in her songs. By placing
the roses on a white background could symbolise the pure innocent love the artist has encountered on.
3. The Kooks – Shine On
This type of digipack has a monochrome style, the graphics itself is not very complex. In order to
produce a successful digipack, the same colours and font have to be used throughout and be kept
consistent, and that is exactly what has been done here and has a very distinctive effect on the audience.
They have chosen a black and white design as I think is the most effective colour scheme to use although
it is so simple. The font for the main headings are very bold, this is so that it can attract the attention of
the public. The graphic and editing used on the front cover of this digipack is very unique and eye
catching as it used lots of images to form one, this is an excellent way to catch the attention of the
audience. It is very unique and I have not seen this used, which is also a reason as to why it is so eye
catching. The squares on the edge of the head fade in to the background which works really well because
the colour scheme all fits together and has a great effect to create the shape on a human head. When
creating my own digipacks, I will consider using techniques used in this one, as the effect it has on the
audience was so great.
4. This digipack is very relevant as the whole look of the album correlates to the name ‘loud’, because it
used very bright and vibrant colours to make sure it is eye catching to the audience. Every page has the
same colour scheme and all the colours connect together to link, using such contrasting colours helps
make the digipack stand out.
The image used on the front cover is a full bleed image of Rhianna,
The main house style colour is red, with the colour blue used in the shadows which is used throughout
the digipack connecting her hair, lipstick and the red roses all together to create a bright, unusual yet
appealing digipack which also portrays her personality and what she's like as an artist.
The artist name Rihanna is printed at the top of the digipack in san serif capitals font with large spaces in-
between the letters making it clear and easy to read. Her album name ‘Loud’ is too printed in the same
front but a lot bigger along the bottom of the digipack therefore making it more noticeable to see.
