Speech On King Henry Viii
Henry VIII of England On June 28, 1491 King Henry VIII was born at Greenwich Palace in
England. He was the third child of "Henry VII and Elizabeth of York." ("Henry VIII
Biography.com.") The first child of Henry VII and Elizabeth was a boy named Arthur. The second
child was a girl named Margaret. The fourth child was a little girl named Mary. He also had three
other siblings, but sadly they did not survive their early childhood. When Henry was young, his
parents encouraged him in his studies. Since Henry studied so much, he became a very clever boy.
He also loved writing poems. In 1502, Henry's older brother dies of an illness at age 15. Due to
Arthur's death, Henry became the heir–apparent to the English throne. Many people believed he was
going to be a great king because he had received a great amount of schooling and he spoke many
languages. Henry was also very athletic. He was very experienced in jousting, hunting, tennis, and
archery. As Henry grew older, he proved that he would rule tyrannically due to his thirst for blood
and power. He was not only selfish, but also handsome. Other people even stated he had a "hearty
personality." ("Henry VIII Biography.com.") Bloodshed seemed to be the typical method to solve
Henry's problems. Henry made his mark as king who would not let anybody in his way. He soon
charged his father's two ministers, Orman 2 Sir Richard Empson and Edmund Dudley with treason.
In 1510, the two ministers were executed. Another completely

King Henry VIII and his six wives
King Henry VIII was born June 28th, 1491 in the Palace of Placentia in London. He only became
king on April 21st,1509 at the age of 18.Through his lifetime he had six different wives which all
either died from giving birth, being beheaded or just old age. King Henry being old and all and fat
would choose girls as young as 15 to be his queen. Then again there was this law that if you didn't
do the deed then you were not officially married by law.
King Henry VIII first wife, Catherine of Aragon, the former princess of Wales and his dead older
brother Arthur's widow. She got married to King Henry VIII in June 1509 immediately after Henry
became king until 1533. Shortly after she became queen she had a daughter. She later died from
cancer in 1536, although many believed that the king himself poisoned her. This may be because
King Henry was not rather pleased with the fact that he had a daughter because he wanted a son.
Shortly before this King Henry and Catherine had got a divorce so that he could marry Anne
Boleyn. Although, the pope declined and said that he could not divorce her but did it anyway. He
thought that because he was the king he could do anything and that was final.

This is because she was beheaded for adultery and unchastity. Catherine Howard had a sexual
relationship with a music tutor, Henry Manox. They were rumored to call each other husband and
wife but it was unlikely that the marriage was ever consummated. Cranmer made Henry aware of
the allegations against Catherine's past and present indiscretions. Henry at first did not believe the
allegations. Dereham and Culpeper two of the other lovers confessed to their part in these
relationships after being tortured, and Henry left Catherine not seeing her again. Her punishment
was rather bloody but let's not lose our heads over

King Henry Viii Influence On Religion
Henry the VIII has influenced the church today by making his own religion in the Catholic Church.
After Wolsey's downfall, Thomas Cromwell became Henry's chief minister and earned the
confidence of the King by helping him to break off with Rome and establish Henry the VIII as head
of the Church of England. (BBC, 2016) This profession also brought him in a lot of wealth through
the dissolution of well–funded monasteries. Over four years Cromwell ordered that 800 monasteries
be disbanded and their lands and treasures taken for the crown (BBC, 2016). All the land that was
sold to the gentry and churches and monasteries were gutted and destroyed. Henry's contribution to
the church started with translating all the bibles to English and then he had ... Show more content on

During the 1280's, after Henry's son Edward had conquered Wales, the Welsh people had revolted
several times against the English people, due to Edward's conquer. But, the Welsh people finally
accepted the idea of unity with the English people. In the acts of 1536 and 1543, Henry joined both
Wales and England under one system of government. When Ireland was made a nation or kingdom
in 1541, King Henry then became the king of Ireland. Henry now the king, had many wars with
Scotland and France, during 1542 Henry's troops defeated the Scotts at Solway Moss. In 1544,
Henry's troops also captured Boulogne–sun–Mer from the French, and then a peace treaty was made
when Henry received an indemnity from France in 1546 (history learning, 2016). Henry's wars with
Scotland remained indecisive in spite of some small victories. Though he opposed the Reformation.
On January 28 1547, Henry the VIII of England died in the city of London. Henry was buried in
Saint Georges Chapel in the famous Windsor Castle. During the reign of Edward the VI, Henry the
VIII's only legitimate son, the parliament passed many more church reforms (reformation T, 2016).
But, then in 1553, Edward's half–sister, Mary, the daughter of Catherine of Aragon was a Roman
Catholic, she reestablished Catholicism as the state

Henry Viii : The King Of England
Some say Henry VIII is the man who ruled in England for over three decades, while others have
stated how he was the man who had six wives. Considerably less have conveyed how he was the
man whose awful choices led to the downfall of himself and his rule. The truth is, Henry VIII has
been put into a box, a box of minimized information, limiting the spread of knowledge about his
true self. It is merely about how many wives he had, who his wives were, and what he did to them.
That is not who Henry VIII is, yet he is seen more as his relationships then as the king of England.
Due to the information – or lack of information – people have been fed by the internet and others,
they have failed to realize that he was severely overweight and unhealthy. His health problems were
partly to blame for his actions and changed his mentality as well as physicality. Henry's health
decline weakened his reign, for he was no longer able to make the smart decisions with his pain–
clouded vision. He was unable to attend to many of his responsibilities as king, which ended up
affecting him and his people greatly. As a result of Henry's personal desires, he got ill, which could
have been prevented if he was able to control his own greed and want. His poor health could have
been avoided, and it led to his overly aggressive and aggravated self, along with his increased
cruelty and instability.

His first two wives failed to do so, but his third wife Jane Seymour, had given birth to a son and he

King Henry's wife Catherine of Aragon was unable to give Henry a son, and also the fact that King
Henry fell in love with Anne Boleyn drove him to get a divorce from Catherine. He requested that
the Pope give him a divorce so he could re–marry, however it was unethical to Catholics to get a
divorce, the Roman Catholic Church did not allow it. King Henry then went to the Archbishop of
Canterbury to grant him the divorce, but William Warham didn't agree. Matters were getting worse
as Anne was pregnant, Henry needed to marry her or else the child wouldn't be legitimate. However,
King Henry was lucky, and William Warham had died, so he appointed Thomas Cranmer to be the
next Archbishop and he gave King Henry the divorce. In 1534, two years after the divorce, the Act
of Supremacy took place, and this was caused the break from the Roman Catholic Church, and
Henry became the supreme head of the Church of England. This caused King Henry to gain a lot
more power than he already had. After a while in around 1536, the dissolution of

Martyrdom. The selfish king. A young monk. All played a significant part in the Reformation.
Before the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they followed
the Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an ancient
Church, and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of corruption in the
church such as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences. An indulgence can be
described as paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was very powerful and
persecuted anyone with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake for having what were
supposedly heretical beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation by introducing a new
church and bringing an end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love and study of the Word of
God, Martin Luther launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe through his 95 Theses.
Each of these events working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and contention; the
Reformation began to materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing religious diversity and
tolerance. In spite of centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found in England because of
the lessons learned through the Catholic–Protestant conflict during the Reformation. King Henry the
VIII increased religious tolerance in England during the Reformation. From 1480 to 1530 before
King Henry's reign, society in England was arguably

a normal life of an average prince. He became the heir to the throne after his brother died in 1502.
When his father passed away in the year 1509, young eighteen year old Henry rose to power on the
throne. Henry VIII then went on to marry Catherine of Aragon, his brother's widow, under discretion
of the pope. Accompanied by Thomas Wolsey, the duo ruled over England. Wolsey was an advisor
to the young king to help him with choices and decisions that were over his head because he was
young. King Henry VIII appointed Wolsey to lord chancellor as a reward. In 1521, Henry wrote a
book called " Assertio Septem Sacramentorum which directly attacked reformer Martin Luther's 95

King Henry Viii : The King Of The Throne
King Henry VIII was one of the most important and controversial leaders in English royalty history.
In his rule, he made several large changes to normal English lifestyle, including taking complete
control over the Church system and stripping the pope of all of his powers in England. He also
broke a Christian tradition by having six different wives (In Christianity, you are not allowed not
allowed to divorce or have several spouses). King Henry VIII 's life and rule completely redefined
English history and legacy, and he certainly will be remembered forever as one of the most

One of Henry 's younger sisters, Mary Tudor, became the Queen of France for a brief period of just

King Henry VIII And His Wives
Henry and His Wives Henry VIII. If you hear this name what is the first thing that comes to your
mind? One of the most well known things about Henry VIII was his revolving door of wives. Henry
VIII had six wives to be exact Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves,
Kathryn Howard, and Kathrine Parr. While their names aren't first off the tongue, the mention of
their husband's ever changing love life will ring a bell. The question is, who were these women?
And how were they able to become the wife of the most powerful man in England? King Henry VIII
first wife was Catherine of Aragon. Catherine of Aragon was the youngest daughter of King

Even though Henry was not the object of her affection, her sense of duty persuaded her to marry
him (Catherine Parr). Catherine and Henry were married on July 12, 1543 at Hampton Court
(Catherine Parr). Catherine was thirty–one, well educated and rich ( Henry VIII Biography Page

so pleased with Catherine that he named her Regent of England a year after her marriage (Catherine

one of Henry's six wives stories are all different and unique. Each one with their own injustices.
Even with Henry's revolving door of wives he only produced one male heir. This leads some
scholars to believe that Henry might have had syphilis due to the amount miscarriages his wives

His future was intended to be the head of the Roman Catholic Church and that fate ended with the
death of his brother, Prince Arthur. Henry's majestic life was full of sports, women, and faith. The
young King acceded his father to the throne, married six women, and began the English

A papal dispensation, or permission from the pope, needed to be issued in order for Prince Henry to
marry his brother's widow. According to the book of Leviticus, the marriage was prohibited and "if a
brother is to marry the wife of a brother they will remain childless". After the death of her husband,
Catherine denied that her marriage had been consummated and that no dispensation was required.
Both England and Spain agreed that a papal dispensation was needed to assure that the marriage was
justifiable. However, even after the papal dispensation was granted, Prince Henry and his brother's
widow did not wed because King Henry VII failed to keep his end of the bargain ("Henry VIII King
of England" 2). In 1509, Henry VII died and Henry, heir apparent, became King of England at
eighteen years old. After the death of Henry VII and the accession of the throne by his son, Henry
became Henry VIII and his first assignment was to execute his father's ministers. It wasn't until a
few months after the death of his father that Henry VIII married Catherine of Aragon ("Henry VIII

Why Is King Henry Viii Important
King Henry VIII of England was desperate for ultimate power and for his name to be carried on
throughout generations. He changed world history by beginning the separation of the English
government from the church hoping to establish the concept of secular governments.
Henry Tudor was born on June 28, 1491 in the Greenwich Palace. He is the son of Henry VII of
England and Elizabeth York. After his father's death, Henry became known as king of England. He
married six different women (Catherine Parr, Catherine Howard, Anne of Cleves, Jane Seymour,
Anne Boleyn, and Catherine of Aragon) in the time of his reign. His marriages are most familiar in
the mnemonic device, "divorced, beheaded, died/divorced, beheaded, survived", talking about his
wives. Henry had six siblings, yet only three survived: Arthur, Margaret, and Mary. Arthur was
expected to take the throne considering he is older than Henry, but he died at the age of 15, four
months after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Henry was offered to the family alliance of Spain
by his father to Arthur's widow. At the age of 17, he had married Catherine.
King Henry was only a teenager when taking the throne, not even an adult. He had a short attention

King Henry Viii 's Reign
Born on June 28, 1491, Henry Tudor, also known as Henry VIII, would grow up to be a powerful
king. Two months before his 18th birthday, Henry VIII would be made the King of England,
succeeding his father, Henry VII. Henry was an egotistical man who indulged in the much finer
things in life. He would not only become known as the king with six wives, but also the king who
changed England's religious history forever. King Henry VIII's reign would be would be known as a
significant "problem period" in England's religious history. King Henry VIII used religion to obtain
what he desired and to further his political power. "Henry VIII was a man whose ego and appetites

England needed a male child of Henry's to take over the throne in the Tudor name when Henry
would, inevitably, pass away. Many historians believe that Henry VIII looked elsewhere to fulfill his
sexual desires because he was bored of the 18 year relationship with his wife, Catherine of Aragon,
who was six years older than he was. Catherine, 41 years old, was quickly exiting the child bearing
years of her life, and this was unattractive and unacceptable to Henry. Catherine had not yet given
Henry the male heir he craved so much. All Catherine had given, and would give, Henry was a
daughter named Mary. Catherine suffered miscarriage after miscarriage and of the babies that were
born after Mary, all only lived a few weeks into infancy. Due to the miscarriages and the older age
of Catherine, Henry VIII was not optimistic of his marriage's future and had many mistresses. One
of his wife's hand maidens caught his attention and the obsession began. Anne Boleyn was a lively,
whirlwind of emotions. She, at only 19 years old, acquired the attention of the King of England,
Henry VIII. Anne was a petite, brunette girl who was manipulative, ambitious, and coquettish. She
had a temper that could rival Henry's. Anne was vivacious with a sharp and formidable tongue that
would consistently get her into a lot of trouble. Her high strung personality fit in quite well at the
English court. Henry lusted after Anne, hoping to persuade her into his bed. Anne, as

The Consequences Of King Henry VIII
King Henry VIII Tudor was greedy, selfish and a very ambitious man in his time. Anything that
Henry wanted, he would strive to make sure that he received it and it happened, no matter what the
costs were. This includes divorcing all of his wives, even though such divorces were against
Catholics' theologies. Reigning between 1509 and 1547, Henry VIII became the most famous king
for all of the wives he ended up marrying and then divorcing. This issue was so popular during
Henry's reign, that a rhyme was even created to summarize the fates of all of his wives, "divorced,
beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived," but what was the real reason Henry decided to
divorce, and sometimes behead, his wives? Henry would say that he divorced his wives because
they cheated him in the relationship, they tricked Henry into marrying them out of love or the
marriage was not a valid one. But in all actuality, Henry VIII only married to get something out of
the relationship that would benefit himself or how he controlled his country. If his wife did not
provide what he wanted and needed, he would divorce her and move on to the next wife. This tactic
was shown through his first wife Queen Katherine of Aragon in the letters that Cardinal Campeggio
wrote about the King's personal marriage situation to Queen Katherine, known as "The King's
Matter." Cardinal Campeggio, himself, wrote in a letter to Pope Clement VII, about the time King
Henry privately came to him asking about an annulment. Campeggio wrote that he talked to Henry
for four hours discussing two matters. The first was why Henry should not go through with the
annulment of his marriage with Queen Katherine. Campeggio suggested that he should not seek an
annulment because it would only start trouble within the country because it would look scandalous.
Campeggio stated, " I exhorted him not to attempt this matter, in order to confirm and clear his
conscience, to establish the succession of the kingdom and to avoid scandals." Campeggio also
suggested that seeking an annulment would only increase tension and Henry should worry about
more about pressing issues, such as finding an heir, but little did Campeggio know, annulling

King Henry Viii Of England
Henry VIII of England[1509–1547] By Kent McMahon King Henry VIII of England is the most
infamous and notorious of all the Monarchs of England. He was a vile and heartless man who
beheaded over 72,000 people in his 38 year reign and called for public celebration when his first
wife, Catherine of Aragorn died on the 7th of January,1536. King Henry VIII was born on the 28th
of June,1491 in Greenwich Palace. He was the 3rd of seven children of King Henry VII, the first
Tudor king, and Elizabeth of York. Out of the seven children, only 4 survived infancy – Prince
Arthur, Princess Margaret, Prince Henry and Princess Mary. Henry 's father, King Henry VII,
unified the divided country when he killed the last Plantagenet King, Richard III. The country had
been divided in a civil war known as 'The War of the Roses ' with two sides of the Plantagenet
dynasty, the House of Lancaster and the House of York, fighting over the throne. Both houses were
descendants of two of the sons of Edward III. The House of Lancaster, descended from John of
Gaunt, was represented by a Red Rose. The House of York, descended from Edmund of Langley,
was represented by the white rose. By 1461, the Yorkists had succeeded in becoming the royal
house in England. With the Yorkist King Richard III becoming increasingly unpopular, Henry Tudor

Doomed King Henry VIII
After I got this far in Doomed Queen Anne, I was just as intrigued and excited as I was when I'd
first opened the book. In fact, more excitement and anticipation had built up. That, but also the fact
that I also found Anne's grip on the King's heart extremely fascinating. It was interesting to read as
Anne's intelligence continued to blossom and captivate King Henry VIII; you don't see a king plead
on his knees for a maiden very often. The book's plot, characters, and conflicts absorbed my mind
quickly as they developed intensely and the action rose between Anne and all those around her; for
instance when jealousy provoked competition between Tom Wyatt and King Henry, as they both
nonchalantly competed for Anne's heart. I was impressed all ... Show more content on

It seemed extremely cruel. I couldn't feel good about reading it. This part was important in
provoking Anne's vain confidence and what lead up to her downfall. It also showed that even King
Henry VIII has desires that must be satisfied and a breaking point. A passage like this revealed a
character's feelings and true thoughts: both selfish and unselfish. On page 118, it said, " 'Marry me,
dearest Anne!' he cried, as though his heart would burst. 'Promise that you will be my wife!' " (
Meyer 118). Just reading Anne's last few thoughts, rejoicing that she'd be queen only made me see
her as ungrateful and selfish. I had hoped by then, King Henry would have truly caught Anne's
fancy; not just him faithfully clinging onto her. Anne's description and words about how she felt
about anything was an essential part of the story. Without them, the story would not have flowed the
way it did, her opinions about situations mattered quite a lot in knowing what she plans to do and all
her feeling through and through. The details all enhanced the importance of the theme; the higher
one rises, the further they have to fall, because as Anne described in the story, her experience of how
she rose in position and how she fell all the way back to the bottom and far into

everything you were taught to believe comes tumbling down. During the reign of King Henry VIII
from 1491–1547 that's exactly how most people felt. He was a selfish king, corrupted by greed and
lust with no sense of empathy towards his people. King Henry showed he was an awful king over

Henry's reign caused major troubled for England. There was an increase in unemployment, raising
the rents and fines for farmers, (Sparknotes) but the main thing that devastated England and its
people was "The Reformation." "The Reformation saw the breaking away of the English Church
from the Catholic Church in Rome in 1534 and the installation of King Henry VIII as its Supreme
Head" (Robinson). Henry married Katherine of Aragon in 1527, he had multiple affairs through out
the marriage and was desperate for a male heir. They were married for over twenty years until
Henry's lustful eyes meant that of Anne Boleyn. Anne Boleyn drove Henry mad with lust refusing to
submit to him until she was Queen of England. Henry VIII tried and tried again to get Katherine out
of picture but many priest were against the divorce and refused to grant it.

King Henry Viii Influence
King Henry VIII was one of the most infamous monarchs in English History. King Henry VIII
gained legitimacy through the Elitist Theory and the power from his father, he gained power the
Coercion Theory and the killing of his wives, and he retained authority through the Machiavellian
Theory and becoming Protestant. King Henry VIII used the power from his father successfully
which led him to gaining legitimacy. Henry also took advantage of the killing of his wives in order
to show power. Finally, King Henry VIII became Protestant in order to retain authority. The first
step in his journey to retain authority was to gain legitimacy. Legitimacy, the first step of many steps

"And among these forces Machiavelli was one. In history, then, as opposed to history play,
Machiavelli's influence may have been more direct; but, in any event, 'Machiavellianism' is a valid
and serviceable term for describing the harsher political ambience of Henry VIII, especially as it
applies, in turn, to Buckingham, Wolsey, and Henry" (McBride 1977). King Henry created the
Church of England just to get an annulment with one of his wives because the Pope of the Catholic
Church would not do it again, so he became his own pope.Henry also became Protestant for the
same reason. King Henry kept getting married for only two reasons, getting a son and gaining a
coalition. He went against the Church for his own self interest... to get an annulment with his wife to
just get a new wife whom he would probably just kill or divorce. Also, King Henry VIII created the
Act of Supremacy to gain authority in which took authority from the Pope of the Church of
England, and also made him Supreme Head of the Church of England. "This effectively stripped all
of the authority the Pope held in England and gave it to Henry VIII. Also because of the Act of
Supremacy Henry VIII gained a new title: Supreme Head of the Church of England" (Gillaspie
2008). King Henry used the acts, methods, and theories to retain his

King 's Spouses : Henry Viii
King Henrys Spouses Henry VIII, king of England, was famously married six times and played a
critical role in the English Reformation, turning his country into a Protestant nation. Henry Tudor,
son of Henry VII of England and Elizabeth York, was born at the royal residence, Greenwich
Palace, on June 28, 1491. Following the death of his brother, Arthur, he became Henry VIII, king of
England. He married six times, beheaded two of his wives and was the main instigator of the
English Reformation. His only surviving son, Edward VI, succeeded him after his death on January
28, 1547. The reason why King Henry had so many wives was because he had the first wife due to
the fact he was dethroned to her by his father. The second wife was due to the simple fact that he fell
in love with her and all needed a legitimate male heir to the throne. The third wife was because he
still needed a male heir. The fourth wife came due to his diplomatic reasons. The fifth wife was
because he fell in love to fast again. His sixth and final wife was because he had grown to be too
old, and sick and he decided he needed a companion and nurse who wouldn't give him too much
trouble. His insecurities led to the treatment of those nearest and sometimes dearest to him by
sentencing them to die. He ordered the killing of his two wives and he cruelly abandoned one, he
was absent when one died, he divorced another and probably only his death most likely prevented
the arrest of the final one. Researchers

This rocky reign begins with him receiving a license from Pope Julius II granting him the marriage
to Catherine of Aragon, his brother's widow. Together on June 24, 1509, they are crowned King and
Queen. The first two years of Henry VIII's reign is filled with lack of interest in governmental
affairs allowing his advisor Thomas Wosley to increase his influence over England. Eventually he
becomes interested in holding power when shifting alliances in the west catch his eye. He then took
an interest in his navy building it up to 53 ships, which took quite a bit of money. This took up most
of his early reign and left the end with leaving the country in a religious mix up for years to come.
As we know, his first wife was the humble and always loyal Catherine of Aragon. They met when
they were adolescences, and married later on to create a powerful alliance, a surplus of wealth, and
maybe even for love. However, that was not enough to keep Henry VIII faithful after many
pregnancies that left them with only one child who survived. That child was Mary born in February
1516. The other children had been miscarriages except for two boys. Sadly, though neither baby
lived through infancy. Talk of divorce stirred about since before Princess Mary's birth. However,
with her birth brought new hope that a male heir was still possible. The divorce was delayed until it

In the northern part of the kingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the monks, but the
Pilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down. Although Henry reformed the government of
the church, he refused to allow any changes to be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he had
opposed the teachings of Martin Luther in a book that had gained for him from the pope the title
Defender of the Faith––a title the monarch of England still bears. After the separation from Rome he
persecuted with equal severity the Catholics who adhered to the government of Rome and the
Protestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was married six times. Anne Boleyn bore the king one
child, who became Elizabeth I. Henry soon tired of Anne and had her put to death. A few days later
he married a third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a little more than a year, after having given birth
to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German princess, Anne of Cleves,
whom the king had been led to believe to be very beautiful. When he saw her he discovered that he

How Is King Henry Viii Selfish
Many people know King Henry VIII as the cruel man with six wives. He was seen as a very
controversial ruler. His desire for a male heir and ultimate power drove him to do things that no
other person would dare to attempt. To easier understand the reasoning behind his actions, you need
to dig further into his life. Henry had a decent upbringing as the child of Henry VII of England and
Elizabeth of York. He was born on January 28, 1491 and was their second son. He had an older
brother named Arthur who had been engaged to Catherine of Aragon since the age of two, she was
the daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella, the rulers of Spain. Arthur was always destined to take the
throne. Therefore, Henry was steered towards a church career and studied music, languages, poetry,
and sports. He learned French, Spanish, Italian, and Latin, which was the international language.
Henry was happy about England being a catholic nation. Even when he was away from home, he

King Henry Viii And The Schism
King Henry VIII and the Schism
St. Augustine, a Catholic saint that helped developed the Western Catholic Church, once said "
There is nothing more serious than the sacrilege of schism because there is no just case of severing
the unity of the church" (St. Augustine). Through this quote it is learned of the significance of the
Catholic Church saw to staying together and avoiding a schism( a split between parties based on
different beliefs). The Catholics believed that in the event of a break in the church would cause a
great disaster because they believed that the church needs to stay together as a whole or it would be
blasphemy, and heresy. The Church also believed that if the church was to have a schism it would
destroy the unity and sanctity of the church. This in fact would be believed to take away from the
church in the manner of it not being the only church with the same mission. Therefore when King
Henry VIII ( the second Tudor, monarch, who ruled from 1509–1547) separated from the Catholic
Church it went completely against the mission that St. Augustine was trying to teach us through his
comments about the church having a schism. The dangers it could have caused were believed to lead
to a destruction of the church and lead to the end of the Catholic Church all together. Although there
are people that view King Henry VIII actions as positive for Europe and beneficial to Europe
especially England, it should be seen that King Henry VIII actions were not actually

Henry VIII: The Narcissistic King Essay
When Henry VIII ascended to the throne in 1509, he became yet another English monarch without
absolute power over his realm. Despite not having the same authority as his contemporary European
monarchs, Henry was the recipient of two very important prerequisites for a successful reign. The
first was a full treasury and the second was a peaceful transfer of power, which had been anything
but certain in England since the War of the Roses. At first he was content to enjoy the fruits of his
father's labor, but ultimately he sought glory in his own name. Henry plunged into needless conflict
in Europe, eliminated anyone who opposed him, and became so obsessed with securing a male heir
that he engineered a split with the Catholic Church. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Henry would never gain the French Crown or be known as a warrior king, but he would become
known for something of greater significance. Henry VIII's desire for military glory was possibly
only surpassed by his infatuation with producing a male heir. Although she had been a model queen
in many respects, Catherine had not produced a male heir and this was of the utmost importance to
Henry. To him, it was unthinkable that the throne could fall peacefully to a girl. He eventually
looked to another woman to satisfy this desire, but first he needed to get rid of Catherine. The only
way for Henry to receive an annulment was to secure a papal dispensation. In order to achieve this
Henry citied a passage in Leviticus that stated, "If a man shall take his brother's wife, it is an
impurity: he hath uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless." He was seemingly
convinced that since he had married his deceased brother's wife he was to remain without an heir.
This passage also presented quite a contradiction however because Henry and Catherine were not
without a child, but had just not had a son. This was either lost completely upon Henry or simply
ignored. Either way he was asking the Pope to go back on his initial ruling. He had previously
decided that since Catherine had not consummated the marriage with Henry's brother, it was okay in
the eyes of God that they be married. In addition to having to contradict himself, the Pope was

King Henry VII did not want his newly formed alliance with Spain to end, so his solution was to
offer Henry VIII in marriage to Arthur's widow. While both King Henry VIII and his wife Elizabeth
were ecstatic with the idea, Henry VIII and Catherine were hesitant of the idea of getting married (
Tremlett 59). Oddly enough, King Henry VII died on April 22, 1509, which left Henry VIII to

that it was the dying wish of Henry VII that he does so. On June 11, 1509, the two were married in a
small wedding held at the friar's church in Greenwich. Exactly twelve days after the marriage, on
June 23, 1509, Henry led Catherine from the Tower of London to Westminster Abbey for their grand

The Monarch : King Henry Viii
The Monarch King Henry VIII (1491–1547) ruled the nation of England for thirty six years, during
which many changes eventually brought his nation into the Protestant Reformation. He married six
wives in pursuit for a healthy male heir and political alliance. After annulling his first marriage,
without papal approval this led to the creation of a separate Church of England. Of his six
marriages, two of them ended in annulment, two with his wives' beheadings for treason and

King Henry VIII Womanizer! That cannot stay faithful to save his life! That is what many people
think about King Henry VIII but he was so much more. He was both a Visionary Leader and an
Unethical Leader when he transformed his country during the English Reformation. In my first main

8). His actions clearly describe the traits of a Creator because he defied the social norm of the time
and let his feelings guide his actions. Additionally, King Henry VIII is notorious for either being
very generous to those that pleased him but ruthless to those that fell out of his favor. His behavior
leads me to believe he practiced the Transactional Leadership, Management–by–Exception–Active
style, according to the Full Range Leadership Lesson Guide. As we know from our course,
"Transactional Leadership" is, "reinforcing desired follower behavior through rewards or
consequences." (BCEE, 2016, p. 7) I definitely think he took an active role in his leadership style
and did not sit back and wait for things to happen. According to Jasper Ridley (1985):
Henry decided that every one of his subjects must be made aware that Papal supremacy had been
replaced by royal supremacy. Every parish priest was required to erase the references to the Pope
from the prayer books in his church, and if he forgot to do this, and a book was found in which the
word Pope had not been scratched out and made illegible, he was in trouble. (p. 234)
Based on my analysis of this data, King Henry VIII was a Visionary Leader that practiced the
Transactional Leadership, Management–by Exception–Active style of leadership.

similar pattern of mismatched coloring appeared in the particolored clothing style popular at the

The Exciting Life of King Henry VIII
To begin with; Henry VIII was the King of England from April 21, 1509 until his death. King Henry
VIII was born born on June 28th of 1491 in Palace of Placentia, Greenwich, in the United Kingdom.
Henry VIII then later died on January 28th, 1547 in Palace of Whitehall, London, in the United

eighteen years old. He was known for his love of hunting and dancing. ("Henry VIII". BBC News.)
Henry was known as the 'father of the Royal Navy.' When he became king there were five royal
warships. By his death he had built up a navy of around 50 ships. Henry built the first naval dock in
Britain then established a Naval Board. This set an administrative machinery for the control of the
fleet. ("Henry VIII". BBC News.) Now, after Wolsey's downfall, Thomas Cromwell became Henry's
chief minister and earned the trust of the King by helping him to break with Rome and establish
Henry VIII as head of the Church of England. This act also brought him much needed wealth by the
well–funded monasteries. Over four years Cromwell ordered that 800 monasteries to be torn down
and their lands and treasures taken for the crown. Most of the land that was owned already was
forcefully sold to the churches and monasteries then destroyed. ("The Life of King Henry VIII

suddenly died before becoming king, the role was passed to Henry in 1509. Although he wasn't fully
trained, Henry ruled successfully, and had many achievements during his rule, including leaving
England with suitable leaders after his death, disestablishing the Catholic church and creating the
Church of England, and by fathering the English Navy. Henry VIII was successful in his many
marriages, and achieved his wishes regarding his line of succession. He initially married with the
intentions of acquiring a male heir, to protect England from political disaster, but in old age, he
continued to marry so he would have someone to nurse him. When Henry VIII became king at
almost 18, he married his brother's widow, Catherine of Aragon, who was 23, to help preserve the
alliance with Spain, and so Henry could have a male heir. Catherine was also trained in law, so she
could manage the country when Henry was away. Out of Catherine's six pregnancies she had one
daughter who survived childhood; Mary, born in 1516. She

Mary: King Henry VIII
Mary was born on February 18, 1516 in Greenwich, London. Her parents were King Henry VIII and
Catherine of Aragon, and she was baptised into Catholic faith three days after her birth. She was
very well educated by her mother and was said to be talented for her age. When she was nine, she
could read and write Latin. She also studied France, Spanish, music, and dance. Obviously, Mary
was not allowed to act like a normal child and instead had many responsibilities. Because her father
had wanted a son and not a daughter, Mary had to act twice as better to prove her worth. Even then,
Henry still wanted a son. It became clear that Catherine could not bear a son, so Henry decided he
wanted a divorce. Pope Clement refused to allow it, so Henry broke

Why Did King Henry Viii Die
King Henry VIII was a king of England until his death in April 21, 1509. Many people thought of
King Henry as an un–mighty ruler. He used to marry a new wife every day, and chop off her head
next morning. And he would do it just as indifferent as if he was ordering up eggs. When someone
mentions King Henry VIII, one would usually think of all of his wives. All though his wives died
when he was in reign, he did not kill all of them. The fates of the wives can be remembered as
"Divorced, beheaded, died; divorced, beheaded, survived." King Henry wasn't all that terrible
though. His personality was quite amazing; his intelligence, learning, and curiosity impressed even
the world–weary ambassadors who littered his court. He was just terrible closer

Tyndale's Criticism Of King Henry VIII
In the same hand of things that attracted followers also attracted criticism. King Henry VIII is often
accused of being a tyrant. The entire reason this religion was created was because he was denied his
request for a divorce by the Catholic Church. This lead to an immense power struggle between the
Pope and Henry. The first thing Henry did was dissolve all of the monasteries in England and Wales.
Many historians has framed the dissolution of the monasteries as a "story of greed" , but it was
entirely just the only priority of the King to make the entirety of England compliant to his rule with
no influence from the Pope. While some people were scared into joining the Church because of the
death spread by the King, it inspired all to speak ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main argument that the common man would not know how to interpret the Word of God
correctly. It was a largely known fact that Jane Seymour was a Protestant even though the King
himself may have been blind to it. Even though Jane had a small part to play in it, everyone knew
that a woman alone could persuade the King to do something that he felt like was blasphemy. In the
end, it was a man named William Tyndale that persuaded him. Tyndale and King Henry had much
history together before Tyndale convinced the King to have a public English version of the Bible
(NLT). In 1530, Tyndale wrote The Practyse of Prelates, opposing Henry's annulment from
Catherine of Aragon and citing scripture for why it was wrong. Tyndale also wrote The Obedience
of a Christian Man which allowed Henry to find the justification to permanently break from the
Roman Catholic Church. Though Tyndale's great works of writing is what inspired King Henry
before, this time, it was Tyndale's death. Tyndale was charged with burning bibles. He was tried on a
charge of heresy and was sentenced to be burned to death, despite the adamant negotiations by
Thomas Cromwell on his behalf. As he burned to death on the stake, his final words were, "Lord!
Open the King of England's eyes." This inspired Henry to authorize the publication of The Great
Bible which was largely based on Tyndale's

King Henry VIII: The Power Of Women
The saying "behind every successful man is a great woman" is evident throughout history. However,
in the case of King Henry VIII, he is controlled by the lust and power provided to him by the
women in his life. Henry was married to Katherine of Aragon for twenty years but since she has
been unsuccessful in producing him an heir, he wants to divorce her (thus upsetting the church), and
marry Anne Boleyn. While this is happening, Henry wants to sleep with Anne but she says she is
unwilling to do this unless he marries her. Henry is so desperate in his quest to have a son that he
goes through with this plan and ends up eventually separating England from the Roman Catholic
church and creating the Church of England. Hilary Mantel emphasizes the power of women over
men throughout Wolf Hall.
Mantel begins the story with the power shifting from Katherine to Anne. For many years, Katherine
had the ear of King Henry. However when she was unable to successfully produce heirs for him, he
decided that she was no longer a suitable wife. Katherine's power is diminished further when Henry
publically asks the Pope to annul their marriage stating that she lied about the consummation of her
previous marriage with Henry's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his anger at the lack of heir that Katherine had produced, Henry fell in love with Anne. While
Henry was content with only sleeping with Anne, Anne insisted on marriage before sex. Mantel
demonstrates Anne's control over the King when the King goes to Wosley to demand that Wosley
get the Pope to annul his marriage to Katherine. However, before Anne succeeds in getting what she
wants, she also convinces the King to kick Cardinal Wosley out of his palace because he was unable
to convince the Pope of confirming the annulment. Anne also is able to control Thomas Cromwell
when she demands that he do her bidding. Where Katherine was weak, Anne is able to use the
King's love for her to control

Speech On King Henry Viii

  • 1. Speech On King Henry Viii Henry VIII of England On June 28, 1491 King Henry VIII was born at Greenwich Palace in England. He was the third child of "Henry VII and Elizabeth of York." ("Henry VIII Biography.com.") The first child of Henry VII and Elizabeth was a boy named Arthur. The second child was a girl named Margaret. The fourth child was a little girl named Mary. He also had three other siblings, but sadly they did not survive their early childhood. When Henry was young, his parents encouraged him in his studies. Since Henry studied so much, he became a very clever boy. He also loved writing poems. In 1502, Henry's older brother dies of an illness at age 15. Due to Arthur's death, Henry became the heir–apparent to the English throne. Many people believed he was going to be a great king because he had received a great amount of schooling and he spoke many languages. Henry was also very athletic. He was very experienced in jousting, hunting, tennis, and archery. As Henry grew older, he proved that he would rule tyrannically due to his thirst for blood and power. He was not only selfish, but also handsome. Other people even stated he had a "hearty personality." ("Henry VIII Biography.com.") Bloodshed seemed to be the typical method to solve Henry's problems. Henry made his mark as king who would not let anybody in his way. He soon charged his father's two ministers, Orman 2 Sir Richard Empson and Edmund Dudley with treason. In 1510, the two ministers were executed. Another completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Wives Of King Henry Viii King Henry VIII and his six wives King Henry VIII was born June 28th, 1491 in the Palace of Placentia in London. He only became king on April 21st,1509 at the age of 18.Through his lifetime he had six different wives which all either died from giving birth, being beheaded or just old age. King Henry being old and all and fat would choose girls as young as 15 to be his queen. Then again there was this law that if you didn't do the deed then you were not officially married by law. King Henry VIII first wife, Catherine of Aragon, the former princess of Wales and his dead older brother Arthur's widow. She got married to King Henry VIII in June 1509 immediately after Henry became king until 1533. Shortly after she became queen she had a daughter. She later died from cancer in 1536, although many believed that the king himself poisoned her. This may be because King Henry was not rather pleased with the fact that he had a daughter because he wanted a son. Shortly before this King Henry and Catherine had got a divorce so that he could marry Anne Boleyn. Although, the pope declined and said that he could not divorce her but did it anyway. He thought that because he was the king he could do anything and that was final. The second wife Anne Boleyn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. King Henry Viii Influence On Religion Henry the VIII has influenced the church today by making his own religion in the Catholic Church. After Wolsey's downfall, Thomas Cromwell became Henry's chief minister and earned the confidence of the King by helping him to break off with Rome and establish Henry the VIII as head of the Church of England. (BBC, 2016) This profession also brought him in a lot of wealth through the dissolution of well–funded monasteries. Over four years Cromwell ordered that 800 monasteries be disbanded and their lands and treasures taken for the crown (BBC, 2016). All the land that was sold to the gentry and churches and monasteries were gutted and destroyed. During the 1280's, after Henry's son Edward had conquered Wales, the Welsh people had revolted several times against the English people, due to Edward's conquer. But, the Welsh people finally accepted the idea of unity with the English people. In the acts of 1536 and 1543, Henry joined both Wales and England under one system of government. When Ireland was made a nation or kingdom in 1541, King Henry then became the king of Ireland. Henry now the king, had many wars with Scotland and France, during 1542 Henry's troops defeated the Scotts at Solway Moss. In 1544, Henry's troops also captured Boulogne–sun–Mer from the French, and then a peace treaty was made when Henry received an indemnity from France in 1546 (history learning, 2016). Henry's wars with Scotland remained indecisive in spite of some small victories. Though he opposed the Reformation. On January 28 1547, Henry the VIII of England died in the city of London. Henry was buried in Saint Georges Chapel in the famous Windsor Castle. During the reign of Edward the VI, Henry the VIII's only legitimate son, the parliament passed many more church reforms (reformation T, 2016). • 4. Henry Viii : The King Of England Some say Henry VIII is the man who ruled in England for over three decades, while others have stated how he was the man who had six wives. Considerably less have conveyed how he was the man whose awful choices led to the downfall of himself and his rule. The truth is, Henry VIII has been put into a box, a box of minimized information, limiting the spread of knowledge about his true self. It is merely about how many wives he had, who his wives were, and what he did to them. That is not who Henry VIII is, yet he is seen more as his relationships then as the king of England. Due to the information – or lack of information – people have been fed by the internet and others, they have failed to realize that he was severely overweight and unhealthy. His health problems were partly to blame for his actions and changed his mentality as well as physicality. Henry's health decline weakened his reign, for he was no longer able to make the smart decisions with his pain– clouded vision. He was unable to attend to many of his responsibilities as king, which ended up affecting him and his people greatly. As a result of Henry's personal desires, he got ill, which could have been prevented if he was able to control his own greed and want. His poor health could have been avoided, and it led to his overly aggressive and aggravated self, along with his increased cruelty and instability. • 5. Impact Of King Henry Viii King Henry VIII, the second son of King Henry VII, was born at Greenwich, England in 1491. He succeeded the throne upon the death of his brother King Arthur in 1509. He married six wives in the hopes of getting a son as he could be the heir to the throne and become the next king of England. His first two wives failed to do so, but his third wife Jane Seymour, had given birth to a son and he was later named Edward VI. He then married three more wives, and his last wife Catherine of Parr, outlived King Henry who died in 1548. King Henry VIII was an tremendously important leader as he had greatly impacted the Renaissance by starting the English Reformation, the union between England and Wales, and he patronized the arts and literature. Before the Reformation, the people of England were homogenous in their beliefs as they followed the Christian teachings of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Roman Catholic Church is an ancient Church, and changes have been made over centuries. Problems arose because of corruption in the church such as the political power of the Pope and the concept of indulgences. An indulgence can be described as paying a fee to buy forgiveness. At this time the Church was very powerful and persecuted anyone with differing beliefs including burning people at the stake for having what were supposedly heretical beliefs. King Henry VIII led the English Reformation by introducing a new church and bringing an end to the power of the Pope. Because of his love and study of the Word of God, Martin Luther launched the Reformation which reached all of Europe through his 95 Theses. Each of these events working simultaneously sparked religious unrest and contention; the Reformation began to materialize. The Reformation was a time of increasing religious diversity and tolerance. In spite of centuries of violence, religious tolerance can be found in England because of the lessons learned through the Catholic–Protestant conflict during the Reformation. • 15. The Consequences Of King Henry VIII King Henry VIII Tudor was greedy, selfish and a very ambitious man in his time. Anything that Henry wanted, he would strive to make sure that he received it and it happened, no matter what the costs were. This includes divorcing all of his wives, even though such divorces were against Catholics' theologies. Reigning between 1509 and 1547, Henry VIII became the most famous king for all of the wives he ended up marrying and then divorcing. This issue was so popular during Henry's reign, that a rhyme was even created to summarize the fates of all of his wives, "divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived," but what was the real reason Henry decided to divorce, and sometimes behead, his wives? Henry would say that he divorced his wives because they cheated him in the relationship, they tricked Henry into marrying them out of love or the marriage was not a valid one. But in all actuality, Henry VIII only married to get something out of the relationship that would benefit himself or how he controlled his country. If his wife did not provide what he wanted and needed, he would divorce her and move on to the next wife. This tactic was shown through his first wife Queen Katherine of Aragon in the letters that Cardinal Campeggio wrote about the King's personal marriage situation to Queen Katherine, known as "The King's Matter." Cardinal Campeggio, himself, wrote in a letter to Pope Clement VII, about the time King Henry privately came to him asking about an annulment. Campeggio wrote that he talked to Henry for four hours discussing two matters. The first was why Henry should not go through with the annulment of his marriage with Queen Katherine. Campeggio suggested that he should not seek an annulment because it would only start trouble within the country because it would look scandalous. Campeggio stated, " I exhorted him not to attempt this matter, in order to confirm and clear his conscience, to establish the succession of the kingdom and to avoid scandals." Campeggio also suggested that seeking an annulment would only increase tension and Henry should worry about more about pressing issues, such as finding an heir, but little did Campeggio know, annulling Henry's marriage to Queen Katherine was ... He was a vile and heartless man who beheaded over 72,000 people in his 38 year reign and called for public celebration when his first wife, Catherine of Aragorn died on the 7th of January,1536. King Henry VIII was born on the 28th of June,1491 in Greenwich Palace. He was the 3rd of seven children of King Henry VII, the first Tudor king, and Elizabeth of York. Out of the seven children, only 4 survived infancy – Prince Arthur, Princess Margaret, Prince Henry and Princess Mary. Henry 's father, King Henry VII, unified the divided country when he killed the last Plantagenet King, Richard III. The country had been divided in a civil war known as 'The War of the Roses ' with two sides of the Plantagenet dynasty, the House of Lancaster and the House of York, fighting over the throne. Both houses were descendants of two of the sons of Edward III. The House of Lancaster, descended from John of Gaunt, was represented by a Red Rose. In fact, more excitement and anticipation had built up. That, but also the fact that I also found Anne's grip on the King's heart extremely fascinating. It was interesting to read as Anne's intelligence continued to blossom and captivate King Henry VIII; you don't see a king plead on his knees for a maiden very often. This part was important in provoking Anne's vain confidence and what lead up to her downfall. It also showed that even King Henry VIII has desires that must be satisfied and a breaking point. A passage like this revealed a character's feelings and true thoughts: both selfish and unselfish. On page 118, it said, " 'Marry me, dearest Anne!' he cried, as though his heart would burst. 'Promise that you will be my wife!' " ( Meyer 118). Just reading Anne's last few thoughts, rejoicing that she'd be queen only made me see her as ungrateful and selfish. I had hoped by then, King Henry would have truly caught Anne's fancy; not just him faithfully clinging onto her. Anne's description and words about how she felt about anything was an essential part of the story. Without them, the story would not have flowed the way it did, her opinions about situations mattered quite a lot in knowing what she plans to do and all her feeling through and through. The details all enhanced the importance of the theme; the higher one rises, the further they have to fall, because as Anne described in the story, her experience of how she rose in position and how she fell all the way back to the bottom and far into ... In the northern part of the kingdom the people rose in rebellion in behalf of the monks, but the Pilgrimage of Grace, as it was called, was put down. Although Henry reformed the government of the church, he refused to allow any changes to be made in its doctrines. Before his divorce he had opposed the teachings of Martin Luther in a book that had gained for him from the pope the title Defender of the Faith––a title the monarch of England still bears. After the separation from Rome he persecuted with equal severity the Catholics who adhered to the government of Rome and the Protestants who rejected its doctrines. Henry was married six times. Anne Boleyn bore the king one child, who became Elizabeth I. Henry soon tired of Anne and had her put to death. A few days later he married a third wife, Jane Seymour. She died in a little more than a year, after having given birth to the future Edward VI. A marriage was then contracted with a German princess, Anne of Cleves, whom the king had been led to believe to be very beautiful. When he saw her he discovered that he had been tricked, and he promptly divorced this wife and beheaded Thomas Cromwell, the minister who had arranged the marriage. Henry's fifth wife, Catherine Howard, was sent to the block for misconduct. In 1543 he married his sixth wife, the tactful and pious Catherine Parr. Catherine, who survived Henry, lived to marry her fourth husband. During Henry's reign ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fortunately for Henry, his father died unexpectedly and he was therefore free to make his own choices. Catherine was only able to produce one child in which it was a girl named Mary. Henry had fallen in love with another woman named Anne Boleyn, and he then tried convincing the Pope to annul his marriage to Catherine. • 28. King Henry Viii And The Schism King Henry VIII and the Schism St. Augustine, a Catholic saint that helped developed the Western Catholic Church, once said " There is nothing more serious than the sacrilege of schism because there is no just case of severing the unity of the church" (St. Augustine). Through this quote it is learned of the significance of the Catholic Church saw to staying together and avoiding a schism( a split between parties based on different beliefs). The Catholics believed that in the event of a break in the church would cause a great disaster because they believed that the church needs to stay together as a whole or it would be blasphemy, and heresy. The Church also believed that if the church was to have a schism it would destroy the unity and sanctity of the church. This in fact would be believed to take away from the church in the manner of it not being the only church with the same mission. Therefore when King Henry VIII ( the second Tudor, monarch, who ruled from 1509–1547) separated from the Catholic Church it went completely against the mission that St. Augustine was trying to teach us through his comments about the church having a schism. The dangers it could have caused were believed to lead to a destruction of the church and lead to the end of the Catholic Church all together. • 29. Henry VIII: The Narcissistic King Essay When Henry VIII ascended to the throne in 1509, he became yet another English monarch without absolute power over his realm. Despite not having the same authority as his contemporary European monarchs, Henry was the recipient of two very important prerequisites for a successful reign. The first was a full treasury and the second was a peaceful transfer of power, which had been anything but certain in England since the War of the Roses. At first he was content to enjoy the fruits of his father's labor, but ultimately he sought glory in his own name. Henry plunged into needless conflict in Europe, eliminated anyone who opposed him, and became so obsessed with securing a male heir that he engineered a split with the Catholic Church. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry would never gain the French Crown or be known as a warrior king, but he would become known for something of greater significance. Henry VIII's desire for military glory was possibly only surpassed by his infatuation with producing a male heir. Although she had been a model queen in many respects, Catherine had not produced a male heir and this was of the utmost importance to Henry. To him, it was unthinkable that the throne could fall peacefully to a girl. He eventually looked to another woman to satisfy this desire, but first he needed to get rid of Catherine. The only way for Henry to receive an annulment was to secure a papal dispensation. In order to achieve this Henry citied a passage in Leviticus that stated, "If a man shall take his brother's wife, it is an impurity: he hath uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless." He was seemingly convinced that since he had married his deceased brother's wife he was to remain without an heir. This passage also presented quite a contradiction however because Henry and Catherine were not without a child, but had just not had a son. This was either lost completely upon Henry or simply ignored. Either way he was asking the Pope to go back on his initial ruling. He had previously decided that since Catherine had not consummated the marriage with Henry's brother, it was okay in the eyes of God that they be married. Oddly enough, King Henry VII died on April 22, 1509, which left Henry VIII to succeed him as king. Shortly after his father's death, Henry agreed to marry Catherine, as he claimed that it was the dying wish of Henry VII that he does so. On June 11, 1509, the two were married in a small wedding held at the friar's church in Greenwich. Exactly twelve days after the marriage, on June 23, 1509, Henry led Catherine from the Tower of London to Westminster Abbey for their grand Coronation that would take place the next day. Following the coronation ceremony everyone gathered at Westminster Hall for an elaborate celebration banquet (Tremlett 61). One year after being married, on June 31, 1510, Catherine gave birth to a still born, but conceived again only four months later. The Monarch : King Henry Viii The Monarch King Henry VIII (1491–1547) ruled the nation of England for thirty six years, during which many changes eventually brought his nation into the Protestant Reformation. He married six wives in pursuit for a healthy male heir and political alliance. After annulling his first marriage, without papal approval this led to the creation of a separate Church of England. Of his six marriages, two of them ended in annulment, two with his wives' beheadings for treason and adultery, and the last two in natural deaths. Each of his children would take their turn as England's monarch, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. Henry Tudor was born June 28, 1491, at the royal residence of Greenwich Palace. (BCEE, 2016, p. 7) I definitely think he took an active role in his leadership style and did not sit back and wait for things to happen. According to Jasper Ridley (1985): Henry decided that every one of his subjects must be made aware that Papal supremacy had been replaced by royal supremacy. Every parish priest was required to erase the references to the Pope from the prayer books in his church, and if he forgot to do this, and a book was found in which the word Pope had not been scratched out and made illegible, he was in trouble. King Henry VIII possessed these traits, and also accomplished many great things for his country, leaving it in a better and stronger state than before. Born in June 1491, in Greenwich, Henry was the second son of his parents, Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. As he grew up, Henry was trained by his father to be a churchman, while Arthur, his older brother, prepared to become king. However, when Arthur suddenly died before becoming king, the role was passed to Henry in 1509. Although he wasn't fully trained, Henry ruled successfully, and had many achievements during his rule, including leaving England with suitable leaders after his death, disestablishing the Catholic church and creating the Church of England, and by fathering the English Navy. Henry VIII was successful in his many marriages, and achieved his wishes regarding his line of succession. He initially married with the intentions of acquiring a male heir, to protect England from political disaster, but in old age, he continued to marry so he would have someone to nurse him. When Henry VIII became king at almost 18, he married his brother's widow, Catherine of Aragon, who was 23, to help preserve the alliance with Spain, and so Henry could have a male heir. However, in the case of King Henry VIII, he is controlled by the lust and power provided to him by the women in his life. Henry was married to Katherine of Aragon for twenty years but since she has been unsuccessful in producing him an heir, he wants to divorce her (thus upsetting the church), and marry Anne Boleyn. While this is happening, Henry wants to sleep with Anne but she says she is unwilling to do this unless he marries her. Henry is so desperate in his quest to have a son that he goes through with this plan and ends up eventually separating England from the Roman Catholic church and creating the Church of England. Hilary Mantel emphasizes the power of women over men throughout Wolf Hall. Mantel begins the story with the power shifting from Katherine to Anne. For many years, Katherine had the ear of King Henry.
