Putting Together a Competitive Benefits Package That Will Attract and Keep Quality Talent Within
An Organization Abstract In today's economy it is vital that society as a whole carefully consider
every dollar spent. In both the small and large business environment one of the most important ways
to do that is to analyze money spent on a company's greatest asset – its employees. Although
unemployment is still relatively high and many people are willing to work for much less than they
would have three or four years ago, the savvy applicant knows the value of employment benefits.
When given a choice of the same salary, most applicants will choose the position that offers
benefits. In some cases, applicants will choose a position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In general, there are 5 health care options: Health Maintenance Organizations, or HMOs, are the
most common option, although they are fast being replaced by Medical Savings Option or Health
Savings Option plans. Employees choose a primary care physician, who helps manage their overall
health care (and the related costs) by acting as gatekeeper for referrals to other doctors within the
HMO network. The worker pays a copayment for each doctor 's visit, and the insurance company
covers the rest. The overriding principal with an HMO is that a company and its workers give up a
bit of freedom in regard to choosing doctors, in return for lower costs; HMOs today tend to carry a
large networks of doctors, but costs associated with these plans are not nearly as efficient as they
once were. Preferred Provider Organizations, or PPOs, are typically the most expensive option
offered to an employee. They are seen more in the large corporate spectrum than in small
businesses. These plans offer employees several choices of doctors and hospitals. Additionally, they
allow workers to see specialists outside of the network, although that typically comes with
additional fees out of the individual employee's pocket. Point–of–Service Plans are a compromise
option. As in the HMO option, employees choose a primary care

Current National Health Care Spending
Health Care Spending Health care spending in the United States is the highest then in any other
country. According to Kane (2012), the Organization for Economic Co–operation and Development
(OECD) there are less physicians per person than in other OECD countries. For example there was
2.4 practicing physicians in the U.S. per 1,000 people. The average for OECD was 3.1, the U.S. fell
well below. In 2012 $8,233 was spent on health care per year per person, this was "two and a half
times more than most of the developed nations in the world"(Kane, 2012). This paper will discuss

spending, which "increased by 3.9 percent in 2012, 0.4 percentage points faster than in 2011"(
(Gnadinger, 2014, para. 3). Faster growth was impacted mostly in hospital, physician and clinical
services. To offset this acceleration was a slower growh in spending for perscription drugs and
nursing home care. Health care payers spending varied as well in 2012. The medicaid and out of
pocket spending grew faster in 2012 than in 2011, but growth in private health insurance and
Medicare spending was a little slower. The national health spending is still continuing to grow faster

with the ACA in effect, "the federal health spending is estimated to increase from 25 percent of total
federal spending to about 40 by 2037" (Marcus, 2012, para. 2).
Is Spending too Much or not Enough There has been an ongoing debate over if there is too much

A recommendation in this situation is to offer a monetary bonus to motivate employees. Most of the
team members indicate that his or her employer benefit packages are highly competitive after
reviewing the objectives. One team member indicates that having some of the nonmonetary benefits
are just as important as the monetary benefits such as discounts on various items, opportunities for
corporate travel, and appreciation events. One may also benefit from offering an annual bonus,
which will give employees more initiative to provide better job performance. As an employee for a
small, local government, understanding that many organizations must offer a smaller compensation
package because of limitations on income sources is easy. Minimal travel time, lower costs for
services, flexible work schedules, ability to earn and use "comp" time rather than using sick or
vacation time, and having the chance to help a community and family are positive reasons to remain
in such an organization. Another work application to a team members workplace is the changing
philosophies regarding pay systems. One team member indicates her organization reduces the size
of the workforce by outsourcing and offering early retirements. This organization does not give high
raises or hire for positions with high pay; instead, they have employees do more work for the same
pay. Several members operate on a merit pay system; therefore, applying this concept to current jobs

Pros And Cons Of Flexible Spending Account

Recommendation
For the Hudson
Company Employees
Introduction
Companies across the nation have been faced with an increase in the cost of employee health
insurance. Over the past five years health care costs have risen by 54% (Thorpe). The decision to be
made now is how to handle these increases in the most convenient way. Flexible spending accounts
(FSA) and healthcare savings accounts (HAS) have become the main focus of this discussion. Many
believe the unrestricted FSA still remains the most helpful account while others prefer the newly
developed, user owned, HAS.
To identify which account is truly superior, Administrative Consultants has researched the pros and
cons of each system. The results presented can be utilized in order ... Show more content on

For example, the same benefits of pretax allocation are common. However unlike FSA, the money
deposited into the account can also gain interest which is very valuable to users. Also, because you
manage the money independently, you can search for better prices or physicians that you prefer
without it being cleared by your employer. The most favored aspect of healthcare savings accounts
is that the money invested rolls over into the next year in full amount.
The characteristics of these accounts that are uncomplimentary include the responsibility, the high
deductible, and penalties that may occur. Many users are not comfortable being accountable to set
aside enough money each year to be sufficient. Also, if you have enough set aside but need that
money for other purposes, not related to health, there are consequences and fines that you may face.
The most feared attribute of a healthcare saving account however is the high deductible rate that it
entails. This deductible is $1300 for an individual and $2600 for a household coverage. ("The Pros

A1. Budgetary Items Of Concern Within the budget for Competition Bikes, Inc., there are a few
different items of concern. Some items that raise a concern within the budget are the projected
number of unit sales and the amounts budgeted for advertising and research and development. I
think it is obvious in the previous years that the amount the company spends on advertising has a
direct effect on the number of sales. According to the projected number of units that are expected to
be sold, the company is expecting an increase from 3,400 in year 8 to 3510 in year 9. This is a
considerable increase because of the fact that in year 7, there were 4,000 units sold, and in year 8 we
saw this drop to 3,400. I think that if the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to the fact that actual unit sales were projected to be 3510 units, while actual sales were
only 3423. While this is an unfavorable variance within the flexible budget, in reality, it is a positive
thing because there was an improvement in sales from the prior year. The next four variances were
favorable ones for the company. Direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, and variable
selling expenses all had favorable variances. This is to be expected as the company sold fewer units
than they had projected for. Competition should be spending less on variable expenses when they
are producing less than expected. Overall, variable expenses as a whole saw a favorable variance by
spending $ 88,989 less than expected. This is despite the fact that the variances within the
advertising and transportation out categories were unfavorable. All of these variables accounted for
show an unfavorable contribution margin variance of$ 41,076. This is due to the money lost in the
unit sales and the few unfavorable variances. Overall, fixed general and administrative expenses
experienced a favorable variance of $2,597. This is mainly due to favorable variances in the
executive compensation, employment taxes, utilities and services, research and development, and
other utilities and services expenses. In the end, Operating income had an unfavorable variance of

Variable Costs. Overall the company had favorable variances in variable costs, excluding the
efficiency variance. As expected, since Competition Bikes sold less than predicted, their related
costs: direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead and variable expenses were less than
budgeted amounts showing a favorable variance. The labor and overhead revenue and spending
variances however, showed unfavorable due to actual output despite the changes to the flexible
budget. With the prediction of decreases costs based on sales, these costs should have also
decreased. There is no further information on why these rates were high, Competition Bikes will
need to look into those expenses.
Advertising and transportation forecasted costs should have also decreased but instead, increased.
Although an increase in advertising was recommended, the additional costs were not accounted for
in the flexible budget. Transportation out is covered by a per unit contract so the decrease in sales
should have reflected a decrease in transportation out costs. Both of these costs should have
decreased with the decrease in sales like direct materials did. These negative variances indicate the
company cannot control costs. This could be caused by a number things: fraud, miscommunication,
poor forecasting, unexpected economic changes, etc. Competition Bikes needs

Senior Living – Budgeting Budgeting is important for everybody, but it can be even more critical for
seniors. A bad financial decision may be painful in your younger years, but it can be overcome.
During retirement, a bad financial decision can be devastating since there is no longer an income

not knowing where their money is going. It could be because there is not a budget in place at all, or
it could be due to changes in expenses that have not been updated. A senior living counselor can

Open Economy Macroeconomics: The IS–LM–BP Model When we open the economy to
international transactions we have to take into account the effects of trade in goods and services (i.e.
items in the current account) as well as trade in assets (i.e. items in the capital account). Opening the
economy to international trade in goods and services means that we have to take into account the
increased demand for our goods by foreigners (our exports), as well as the decreased demand for our
goods that occurs because we purchase foreign goods (i.e. our imports). Total expenditures in an
open economy are C + I + G + NX, where NX –– net exports –– is equal to the level of exports (X)

Thus, the relative price of that foreign good has risen and therefore, less of it will be purchased by
domestic residents. So, an increase in e will cause a decrease in imports: a higher e raises the
relative cost of foreign goods and therefore reduces V. Conversely, a decrease in e lowers the
relative price of foreign goods and therefore increases V. Thus, imports are determined by domestic
income levels and the exchange rate. An increase in Y or a decrease in e causes V to increase. A
decrease in Y or an increase in e causes V to decrease. The effect of opening the economy to trade in
goods and services, is that the IS curve needs to be specified for a given exchange rate. The IS curve
still depicts the combinations of i and Y for which the level of total expenditures equals the level of
production, but now, in addition to being determined by the interest rate, total expenditures are also
determined by the exchange rate (since the exchange rate affects the level of NX). Under a fixed
exchange rate regime, the IS curve is fixed (unless there is a change in government spending or tax
rates, or the government devalues or revalues the currency). Under a flexible exchange rate regime,
the price of foreign exchange fluctuates to equate the demand and supply of foreign exchange. Thus,
e changes on a frequent basis. Whenever e changes, the IS curve shifts. If

Problems with Ppaca
Problems with PPACA:
Higher Costs
PPACA has touted new benefits without measures to cut cost.1 One should know that in America
there are already federal laws and programs to cover the elderly (Medicare), the poor (Medicaid),
and uninsured children (CHIPs), In addition there is basically free or low cost care to anyone who
needs it and it is available if one looks for it. Examples include: Shriner's hospitals, free clinics, and
providers who do pro bono work. In case that wasn't enough, there are also laws in place that ban
practices of charging more to people with pre–existing conditions in employer–based health
insurance. The 60% of Americans who get their healthcare insurance from their employer may
actually be hurt by PPACA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All medication purchases using FSAs or HSAs will require a prescription.1,2 Those expensive
over–the–counter medications will now be out of pocket expenses for every American, even if they
planned in advance with a HSA or FSA to cover the costs. More Red Tape It is hard to think of an
example where government intervention reduces red tape and the PPACA is no exception. Anyone
who receives $600 or more in compensation from a business will be required to receive a 1099 from
that business at the end of the year. This ruling has been predicted to be so burdensome to American
small businesses that even Obama has vowed to sign legislation to repeal it. Currently, the bill is
gridlocked in Congress.
Under the PPAC, the employer mandate will allow employers to receive monthly reports on
subsidized employees. This has potential liability implications. Revealing personal finances to
employers exposes individuals personal information and could increase employers liability.1 A
business with the employer mandate in place and coverage for a household may see the government
tack on penalties in such instances as an employee's spouse loses a job, or an elderly relative moves
in. There is the possibility that the employers will have to pay a penalty without knowing the full
details, unless challenged and given permission by a government agency.1 Finally, under the
employer mandate, PPACA forces businesses to make decisions

company holidays with an additional item for working those days. If it is an employee who can
arrange to have time off offer them an unpaid summer vacation for those that want it. Hire mostly
part time or flex time workers to accommodate for additional expenses that way you are not paying
full time plus additional benefits putting the company's budget at risk, also by offering the 401 or the

The New Health Plan For Affordable Care Act
As more provisions of the affordable care act continue to be implemented many find controversy
ineffectiveness of the new health plan. On an annual basis the correlation seems to grow more

The real question is, did the ACA truly reduced costs for the previous insured? Supporting data
suggest otherwise and paints the picture of ever increasing priced insurance market that has not hit
sustainability. In 2016 the American population again saw their insurance plans increasing their
premiums from 10%–13% across the board. This is much more than expected, and even worse the
co–op insurance plans have failed. The government sponsored non–profit plans offering lower rates
have not proven sustainability in result of the majority going bankrupt even after receiving 1.2
billion dollars of taxpayer's money. The Affordable Care Act is already becoming a huge tax
expense amongst Americans leading to the U.S. increasing the overall national debt. Starting 2018
all high end health insurance premium plans will come with a 40% excise tax. Also, changes in
flexible spending accounts have occurred as over the counter medicines are no longer qualified

A1. Budget Concerns
A fiscal document used to plan future revenue and expenditures is a called a budget (Murray, n.d.).
The overall process of whether or not the company can continue to run with the projected revenue
and expenditures is called budgeting (Murray, n.d.). It is valuable because it helps an organization
consume the inadequate financials and human capital for which is best to achieve current business
opportunities. A company is also capable of formulating both long–term and short–term strategies
for help in implementation and constant assessment of its performance.

Unfortunately, the operating income was unfavorable by –$38,478 because the costs were greater
than the revenue and the unfavorable variance of the contribution margin.
A2a. Corrective Actions
Competition Bikes experienced some disapproving variances within Year 9 by exceeding or falling
below the amount of what was budgeted. Transportation Out had an actual output of $108,297; the
contract states that it charges $30/unit which can only mean two things: they were over charged in
the amount of $31.64/unit or they produced about 3610 units but only sold 3423. Therefore, it is
extremely important that the company abide by the budgeted amount of units and make sure that the
contracted amount for each unit is being accounted. For advertising expenses, it went over by $3049
of what was forecasted. It is highly possible that CB underestimated its need for advertising
considering the company is trying to comeback from an economic downfall; however, 2% of the
gross margin was dedicated for this expense but much more was spent. There is sometimes a
possibility that fluctuation will occur among variable costs, but it is important that management
remain consistent and not deviate from the forecast or keep in mind the previous year's budget. With
the fixed expenses, administrative salaries and other general and admin expenses were unfavorable.

The Importance Of An Organization Having A Pre Planned Budget
In this research paper I will be explaining the importance of an organization having a pre–planned
budget. Without the proper budgeting systems most organizations probably would end up spending
more than their means which could ultimately cause a great amount of hardship. First let me start off
by defining what a budget is, a budget can be defined as" the process of creating a plan to spend an
organization or individual's money. " (Peavler, 2016) It's always best to create a plan for a budget
that is for six months to a year down the road. Spending plans are an entrepreneur 's arrangement of

be made. Fixed and Static on the other hand is a predetermined amount that is unable to be changed
if things do not go as plan that is what makes the flexible budget more advantageous. (Davoren,
2016) The business environment around you changes quickly; thusly, you should adjust to these
progressions to make your business an example of overcoming adversity. Utilizing an flexible
budgeting plan places you in a superior position to oblige these progressions, make convenient
operational alterations and take the best advantages from circumstances that exist in outside
situations. For instance, in the event that you run a transportation and dispatch administration, you
might see the expanding expense of gas and that travel costs are over spending plan. In the event
that you utilize an adaptable spending plan approach, you could name options and set them set up to
diminish the expense of these expansions. (Davoren, 2016) According to the source "Strategic

Disadvantages Of Flexible Saving Account
Flexible saving Accounts (FSAs) are a kind of cafeteria plan letting employees to choose cash and
specified welfares by the method of a payroll inference that they designate each year. Such plan
enables the company to expand benefit selections on a tax–advantaged foundation to employees
with negligible extra out–of–pocket expenses. Flexible spending accounts provides several
advantages to Blue Post Company and the employees. Though, there are some difficulties to be
aware of. The most common one is the "utilize it or lose it" characteristic. Any amounts donated to

A1. Concerns
Upon reviewing the Competition Bikes Inc. (CBI) Budget Schedules and ProFormas for Year 9,
there are a few concerns that should be analyzed. The first is the forecasted sales in units. The
forecast for year 9 is 3,510 units, which is a 3.2% increase over the 3,400 units sold in year 8. The
storyline mentions the economic downturn, which has led to a decrease in bike sales. It can take
some time to recover sales lost during an economic downturn, and given that sales were down 15%
between year 7 and year 8, to go from a 15% decrease in sales to a 3.2% increase in sales in the span
of only two years may be an unrealistic goal. I would want to see a specific plan in place for ...

This clearly shows that CBI overestimated their sales goal in light of unfavorable economic
conditions. Given these conditions, the fact that they still sold more bikes than in year 8 should be
considered a positive result.

Compare Flexible Spending Accounts
If ever you've had to pay out–of–pocket for medical, dental, vision or prescription expenses, you
likely either already had some money set aside or wish you had... That's where Healthcare Flexible
Spending Accounts (HCFSA), Limited–Purpose Flexible Spending Accounts (LPFSA) and Health
Savings Accounts (HSA) come in particularly handy. As a Benefits Administration Professional, I've

unfavorable tax ramifications. Each has specific eligible expenses and deviating from those strict
guidelines is a recipe for a tax disaster.

Flexible Spending Account Advantages And Disadvantages
No one enjoys paying taxes! According to a study, more than half of Americans believe that the
taxes they are paying are too high. Surprisingly enough, many people are not utilizing simple tax–
saving tools that could easily help to lower their tax bills. One of those tools in particular is a
flexible spending account.
What is a flexible spending account?
A flexible spending account is a special account that you can put money into that you use to pay for
certain out–of–pocket health care costs. This is money you don't pay taxes on, which means you will
save an amount equal to the taxes you would have paid on the money you set aside. Flexible
spending accounts also have tax benefits, continue reading to find out more.

Both you and your employer can contribute to a dependent care flexible spending account. This can
also be used for child care costs for anyone under the age of 13 in your household.
Tax Savings for flexible spending accounts
Since the money used to fund your flexible spending account is a pre–tax taken from your paycheck
before your taxes are deducted, you are saving whatever percentage you would have paid on that
money in federal taxes. For instance, if you earn $50,000 a year and sign up for a flexible spending
account contributing $2,000 and your tax rate is 30%, you would have a $600 benefit. Plus, there are
no reporting requirements on your taxes since your flexible spending account is tax–deferred
through an employer. Who doesn't enjoy getting TAX FREE money? We know we certainly do!
End of the year balances
Flexible spending accounts are very much a "use it or lose it" style account, which means if you
have a balance at the end of the plan year, it is forfeited. Your flexible spending account may offer
you a grace period of two and a half months to use the funds, or it may allow you to carry over up to
$500 for the next year. The carry over will not count as a contribution for the next year's plan.
However, employees with a remaining balance are typically contact numerous types so that they are

Possible Causes Of Economic Inequality In The United States
In recent years, the largest protests launched by the economic weak can be said to be fought. The
issue of "inequality between the rich and the poor" in the process of economic development has
aroused numerous discussions. However, there is no statement about its causes and consequences.
The causes of inequality can be divided into three points. First, the economically distorting free
market mechanism leads to inequality between the rich and the poor. Second, political, national or
political parties have different policy options. Third, the politics and economy of the joint system
leads to unequal deterioration. The uneven inequality is caused by the uneven distribution of

Competition mechanism extends to various areas of economic life and will cause a lot of misplaced

The costs of health care are higher in the United States than in other countries and put a strain on the
overall economy. In the United States, health care is technologically advanced but expensive. Health
care costs were about $2.6 trillion dollars in 2010. For decades, the amount of money spent on
health care has increased more than the overall economy has grown. Health care is paid for by

Budget Planning And Control Management
Budget Planning and Control
According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management's plans for a specified
future time period, expressed in financial terms (Wiley, 2013). An effective budget gives a company
command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic
and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget,
such as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations.
The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against
which to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures
(Bragg, 2010). Budgeting forms the baseline for a company 's future performance. Managers create
the budget anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These
managers calculate revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected
in the budget arrives, the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the
department 's performance (Bragg, 2010).
Another advantage of budgets is that they can be instrumental in identifying constraints and
bottlenecks. The earlier example of the power plant well illustrated this point. Efficient operation of
the power plant was limited by the supply of

Classical Vs. Keynesian Models Essay
Classical vs Keynesian models
Two economic models of thought are classical and Keynesian models. Each model takes a diverse
approach to the economic education of financial policy, buyer behavior, and government spending.
The classical model, which traces its origins to the 1770s, was the first systematic attempt to explain
the determinants of the price level and the national levels of real GDP, employment, consumption,
savings, and investments. Classical economist Adam Smith and others assumed that all wages and
prices were flexible and that competitive markets existed throughout the economy. Classical
economic theory is fixed in the theory of an (no government) unrestrictive economic market. This
model especially its focus toward macroeconomics relies on four major assumptions: pure
competition exists, wages and prices are flexible, people are motivated by self–interest, and people
cannot be fooled by money illusion.
Flexible Prices are the prices of everything; supplies, employment (incomes), property (rent), etc.
must be mutually ascending and descending. However, in truth, it has been perceived that these
prices are not as freely elastic downwards as they are upwards, due to a multiplicity of market
limitations, resembling unions, and laws. Flexible prices confirm that markets regulate to
equilibrium and decrease deficiencies and overages. Say 's Law proposes that the aggregate
production in an economy must generate an income enough to purchase all the economy 's

Fiscal Policies And The Fiscal Policy
Before we talk about ways to assess fiscal policy of an economy, I would like to describe what we
mean by fiscal policies and why it is important for an economy. Fiscal policy is the use of
government revenues and expenditure to influence growth of an economy. Fiscal policies that
increase demand in an economy are called as expansionary policy whereas those which reduce
demand are called as contractionary fiscal policies. These policies are most effective in a fixed
exchange rate regime with perfect capital mobility while they are less effective if the exchange rate
is flexible. These policies are used to tackle cyclicality, external account imbalances and inflationary
problems. In the following sections, I will discuss describe various roles of fiscal policy, how the
fiscal policies should be designed, how to assess its sustainability. The essay will end with a brief
policy recommendation on fiscal policies which should be generally followed by the governments.
The government uses fiscal policy to achieve its short term and long term objectives. Short run
objective mainly includes macroeconomic stabilization by responding to various domestic and
international shocks such as natural disasters, terms of trade shock, financial crisis etc., while in the
long run the government goals can be to eradicate poverty, improve infrastructure or have structural
changes in labor market. Although countries broadly share these objective, but the priorities may

  • 4. Human Resource Management Putting Together a Competitive Benefits Package That Will Attract and Keep Quality Talent Within An Organization Abstract In today's economy it is vital that society as a whole carefully consider every dollar spent. In both the small and large business environment one of the most important ways to do that is to analyze money spent on a company's greatest asset – its employees. Although unemployment is still relatively high and many people are willing to work for much less than they would have three or four years ago, the savvy applicant knows the value of employment benefits. When given a choice of the same salary, most applicants will choose the position that offers benefits. In some cases, applicants will choose a position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general, there are 5 health care options: Health Maintenance Organizations, or HMOs, are the most common option, although they are fast being replaced by Medical Savings Option or Health Savings Option plans. Employees choose a primary care physician, who helps manage their overall health care (and the related costs) by acting as gatekeeper for referrals to other doctors within the HMO network. The worker pays a copayment for each doctor 's visit, and the insurance company covers the rest. The overriding principal with an HMO is that a company and its workers give up a bit of freedom in regard to choosing doctors, in return for lower costs; HMOs today tend to carry a large networks of doctors, but costs associated with these plans are not nearly as efficient as they once were. Preferred Provider Organizations, or PPOs, are typically the most expensive option offered to an employee. They are seen more in the large corporate spectrum than in small businesses. These plans offer employees several choices of doctors and hospitals. Additionally, they allow workers to see specialists outside of the network, although that typically comes with additional fees out of the individual employee's pocket. Point–of–Service Plans are a compromise option. As in the HMO option, employees choose a primary care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the team members indicate that his or her employer benefit packages are highly competitive after reviewing the objectives. One may also benefit from offering an annual bonus, which will give employees more initiative to provide better job performance. As an employee for a small, local government, understanding that many organizations must offer a smaller compensation package because of limitations on income sources is easy. Econ Islmbp Open Economy Macroeconomics: The IS–LM–BP Model When we open the economy to international transactions we have to take into account the effects of trade in goods and services (i.e. items in the current account) as well as trade in assets (i.e. items in the capital account). Opening the economy to international trade in goods and services means that we have to take into account the increased demand for our goods by foreigners (our exports), as well as the decreased demand for our goods that occurs because we purchase foreign goods (i.e. our imports). Total expenditures in an open economy are C + I + G + NX, where NX –– net exports –– is equal to the level of exports (X) less the level of imports (V). Thus, our exports (X) represent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the relative price of that foreign good has risen and therefore, less of it will be purchased by domestic residents. So, an increase in e will cause a decrease in imports: a higher e raises the relative cost of foreign goods and therefore reduces V. Conversely, a decrease in e lowers the relative price of foreign goods and therefore increases V. Thus, imports are determined by domestic income levels and the exchange rate. An increase in Y or a decrease in e causes V to increase. A decrease in Y or an increase in e causes V to decrease. The effect of opening the economy to trade in goods and services, is that the IS curve needs to be specified for a given exchange rate. The IS curve still depicts the combinations of i and Y for which the level of total expenditures equals the level of production, but now, in addition to being determined by the interest rate, total expenditures are also determined by the exchange rate (since the exchange rate affects the level of NX). Under a fixed exchange rate regime, the IS curve is fixed (unless there is a change in government spending or tax rates, or the government devalues or revalues the currency). Under a flexible exchange rate regime, the price of foreign exchange fluctuates to equate the demand and supply of foreign exchange. Thus, e changes on a frequent basis. I love to shop a lot, so this book was an easy, relatable guide for me to learn more about finance, savings, and taking control of my life now as well as for my future. The whole book was a constant circuit of new financial lessons. A few of the most important financial lessons I learned included tips for overcoming my spending triggers. I tend to carelessly buy food, clothes, and accessories without really thinking twice about it and this lesson recognized all the triggers and suggested ideas to overcome spending habits. For example, to pack lunches and have little snacks with you so that you do not overspend with food. I also made a financial goals chart that covered my goal, the total cost or savings needed, timing and the monthly amount needed to achieve the goal. (CBI) Budget Schedules and ProFormas for Year 9, there are a few concerns that should be analyzed. The first is the forecasted sales in units. The forecast for year 9 is 3,510 units, which is a 3.2% increase over the 3,400 units sold in year 8. The storyline mentions the economic downturn, which has led to a decrease in bike sales. It can take some time to recover sales lost during an economic downturn, and given that sales were down 15% between year 7 and year 8, to go from a 15% decrease in sales to a 3.2% increase in sales in the span of only two years may be an unrealistic goal. • 70. Budget Planning And Control Management Budget Planning and Control According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management's plans for a specified future time period, expressed in financial terms (Wiley, 2013). An effective budget gives a company command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations. The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against which to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures (Bragg, 2010). Budgeting forms the baseline for a company 's future performance. Managers create the budget anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These managers calculate revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected in the budget arrives, the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the department 's performance (Bragg, 2010). Another advantage of budgets is that they can be instrumental in identifying constraints and bottlenecks. The earlier example of the power plant well illustrated this point. Efficient operation of the power plant was limited by the supply of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Classical Vs. Keynesian Models Essay Classical vs Keynesian models Two economic models of thought are classical and Keynesian models. Each model takes a diverse approach to the economic education of financial policy, buyer behavior, and government spending. The classical model, which traces its origins to the 1770s, was the first systematic attempt to explain the determinants of the price level and the national levels of real GDP, employment, consumption, savings, and investments. Classical economist Adam Smith and others assumed that all wages and prices were flexible and that competitive markets existed throughout the economy. Classical economic theory is fixed in the theory of an (no government) unrestrictive economic market. This model especially its focus toward macroeconomics relies on four major assumptions: pure competition exists, wages and prices are flexible, people are motivated by self–interest, and people cannot be fooled by money illusion. Flexible Prices are the prices of everything; supplies, employment (incomes), property (rent), etc. must be mutually ascending and descending. However, in truth, it has been perceived that these prices are not as freely elastic downwards as they are upwards, due to a multiplicity of market limitations, resembling unions, and laws. Flexible prices confirm that markets regulate to equilibrium and decrease deficiencies and overages. • 74. Fiscal Policies And The Fiscal Policy Before we talk about ways to assess fiscal policy of an economy, I would like to describe what we mean by fiscal policies and why it is important for an economy. Fiscal policy is the use of government revenues and expenditure to influence growth of an economy. Fiscal policies that increase demand in an economy are called as expansionary policy whereas those which reduce demand are called as contractionary fiscal policies. These policies are most effective in a fixed exchange rate regime with perfect capital mobility while they are less effective if the exchange rate is flexible. These policies are used to tackle cyclicality, external account imbalances and inflationary problems. In the following sections, I will discuss describe various roles of fiscal policy, how the fiscal policies should be designed, how to assess its sustainability. The essay will end with a brief policy recommendation on fiscal policies which should be generally followed by the governments. The government uses fiscal policy to achieve its short term and long term objectives. Short run objective mainly includes macroeconomic stabilization by responding to various domestic and international shocks such as natural disasters, terms of trade shock, financial crisis etc., while in the long run the government goals can be to eradicate poverty, improve infrastructure or have structural changes in labor market. Although countries broadly share these objective, but the priorities may change as per country's need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
