Spiritual Gifts Sermon

In today's sermon we will be discussing the gifts of the Spirit. When we become indwelled by the
Holy Spirit we receive spiritual blessings. Spiritual gifts are crucial to the growth of the church. If
you are a Christian you possess a spiritual gift or gifts at the moment of salvation. Spiritual gifts
edify the body of Christ.
Today we will be focusing on what these gifts are and finding out more about their purpose in our
lives. Scripture directs us to utilize our gifts to serve others within the church body. 1 Peter 2:10
(King James Version) says, "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:7–11
(King James Version), "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common
good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of
knowledge by means of the same spirit, to another gifts of healing, by one Spirit, to another
miraculous powers to another to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to
another speaking in different kinds of tongues and still another the interpretation of tongues, all
these are the work of one of the same spirit and He gives them to each one as he determines."
We Christians are like body parts to Christ. But, it must be

What is a Spiritual Gift?
Spiritual Gifts are special abilities used for spiritual purposes given to each believer by the Holy
Spirit, according to God's purpose for our lives, to accomplish a given ministry God 's way
according to grace and discernment; to be used as the Body of Christ.
What does the Bible say about Spiritual Gifts?
There are different spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; and there are different ministries and the same
Lord; and there are different activities but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.
A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good.
A word of wisdom is given by the Spirit to one person, a word of knowledge to another according to
the same Spirit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same way, though there are many of us, we are one body in Christ, and individually we
belong to each other.
We have different gifts that are consistent with God's grace that has been given to us. If your gift is
prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith.
If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is teaching, devote yourself to
teaching.
If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no
strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing mercy should be cheerful.
Romans 12:4–8
God has given each believer a spiritual gift that He wants us to use for His glory. God wants us to be
involved with His work. He is so gracious that by His Holy Spirit He freely distributes gifts to all
who are saved. He not only wants us to know our spiritual gifts, but He expects us to grow in them
each day.
Why do we have spiritual gifts at all?
To answer this let 's take a look at Scripture. In Acts 1:8, Jesus says, "But you will receive power
when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in
all Judaea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Jesus is sharing with us a
primary purpose of the gifts of the Spirit: to give the church power in order to preach Christ to the
entire world. In Ephesians 4:12 Paul says another purpose of the gifts is to equip the church for
building up

Spiritual Gifts Spiritual gifts have been a topic of heated debate among a wide array of
congregations and faith believers. Are these gifts just natural everyday abilities or miraculous one's
on par with what Jesus showed on earth? Scripture gives some insight into these questions but with
the power and flexibility of interpretation these answers are also obscured.
Before any external analyses and opinions are examined, spiritual gifts should be explained in its
original context of Scripture. When looked through the span of four specific New Testament Bible
passages, spiritual gifts are given key distinctions. First of all, spiritual gifts are endowed by the
Holy Spirit as it is stated in 1 Corinthians 8–10:
To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge
by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that
one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between
spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of
tongues.
By the Spirit, we are able to use these gifts and it is this same Spirit that moved the disciples after
Jesus ascended to Heaven.
Also, spiritual gifts are graces endowed for the purpose of building up the body of Christ, or what is
the church as it is stipulated in 1 Corinthians 14:12: "So it is with

Persuasive Essay About Christmas
What do you bring a King for his birthday?
I think the wise men knew something we didn't. Seriously, when I go to a baby shower I usually
bring diapers, bottles or clothing; not gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Block Quote
"When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with
his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests
and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." ~ Matthew 2:10–11 (NLT)
As a family we go through great lengths to have everything in our home point back to Jesus so that
we don't lose sight for why we celebrate Christmas.
However, this year the Lord has really been working on our hearts in regards to how we give gifts.
Our Tradition of Gift–Giving
Usually weeks leading up to Christmas we spend time as a family sowing into others, serving in
community outreaches, and giving gifts to those God has placed on our hearts.
On Christmas morning there is great peace knowing we have made Christ the focus, given to those
in need and now we can enjoy this time as a family.
We typically start out with communion and prayer before opening gifts. And then our children look
for their gifts wrapped in their special wrapping paper.
As parents we don't overdue it, we keep it simple and that is usually dictated by a budget. But as I've
been studying about the gifts the wise men brought Jesus, I began to consider how we can change
our gift giving so that it too points back to

My Spiritual And Discipleship Condition Essay
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any
wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (KJV Ps. 139:23–24). In this verse, David
asks God to help him search his heart so that he can be closer to God. Without God, the process of
self–evaluation is impossible as David states in his psalm. What makes David such a good source
for advice? In the Bible, David is known as "a man after God's own heart" (1 Sam. 13:14). If David
recognized the importance of self–evaluation, then every Christian should continually evaluate
themselves according to God's principles in the Bible. In this paper, I will be examining my spiritual
and discipleship condition in relation to myself, God, and others.
In relation to myself, my biggest weakness would be my fear and anxiety. My biggest fear is change.
In the past, I have had many bad experiences with change. For example, the most traumatic change
in my life was the move from England to South Korea. The leaving behind of friends, culture, and
comfort caused great distress. Another challenge and change was moving from South Korea to
America when my mother became very sick. This change had a very big impact on anxiety as the
fear of losing my mother changed me emotionally. During sixth grade, I went to the middle school
and was bullied. This experience motivated me to become homeschooled. The most recent big
change that I experienced was going to college. Because of my past traumatizing change,

Christmas : Psychological And Sociological Perspectives
Christmas is the annual festival celebrating the birth of Jesus on the 25th December, at least that is
what it began as initially. Since it has expanded into an international phenomenon for consumption,
taking priority over our everyday practices of life (Michel De Certeau, 1980). Our time we spend
divided between work and leisure in accordance to the codes and conventions of society shifts,
Christmas derails these expectations. Yet surprisingly Christmas gains little attention in terms of
social research, despite the fact that it can be explored diversely. The inquiry 'What is Christmas?'
links to multiple aspects of social research. The aspects of Christmas can be subdivided into the
following; religion, commercialism, gift–giving, social relationships, sensualism and mythology.
This essay will analyse these fundamentals of Christmas through both psychological and
sociological perspectives, as the theories among these two social sciences are best suited to the
elements which make up Christmas itself.
As aforementioned, the initial true meaning of Christmas is religion – one that has now been muchly
downplayed. Of course at first glance religion is only an important element of Christmas for those
who are actually religious, for which then religion plays the dominant role of what Christmas is to
them. However, religion means to show obligation to something through faith, it could be argued
that the majority of society is actually religious. We follow a society which has

Spiritual Gifts : A Spiritual Gift
Dear friend, I am glad you reached out to me on the topic of spiritual gifts. Knowing and
understanding the different spiritual gifts is of key importance in the life of a Jesus follower. Not
only for yourself, but also, for non–believers who may have the same questions and curiosities.
There are several different spiritual gifts and each one serves a specific and meaningful purpose for
the Kingdom of God. Let us begin with explaining what spiritual gifts are so that we can understand
their unique purpose.
Spiritual gifts are the direct result of the Holy Spirit of God living inside our being. The Holy Spirit
lives only inside those who are born again in Christ Jesus. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh,
and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born
again.'" (English Standard Version, John 3:6–7). Spiritual gifts are born of the Holy Spirit and each
spiritual gift serves an individual purpose in the body of Christ. These spiritual gifts all come
together for one universal purpose and that purpose is the building up of fellow believers and the
Church so that they may be drawn nearer to Christ.
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into
Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is
equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in
love. (English Standard Version, Ephesians

Spiritual Gifts In The Bible
Good Morning Jesse Long, I am so thankful that the Bible gives us doctrine that will aid you in
discovering your spiritual gifts and how you can begin to use them. The first focus is to be fully
informed about the different types of spiritual gifts in the Bible. Specifically, the Bible lists more
than a dozen spiritual gifts as apostleship, prophecy, miracles, tongues, evangelism, pastor,
ministering, teaching, faith, exhortation, discerning spirits, showing mercy, giving, and
administration (Rom. 12:6–8, 1 Cor. 12:8–10, Eph. 4:8–13, KJV, Ryrie, p. 100). With that being
said, every believer can have more than one spiritual gift, unless disobedience is present, all
believers could have three gifts to use in the service of God (Ryrie, p. 101). ... Show more content

101). You may have a part in the development of your spiritual gift; however, the Holy Spirit
empowers you to use it and your diligent yieldedness will produce proper development (Ryrie, p.
101). Even more, the first biblical guideline, for spiritual development, is to first covet earnestly the
bests gifts, by zealously pursuing your gift through self–preparation and frequently asking the Lord
if you are doing all that you can to develop the gift He has given to you (1 Cor. 12:31, Ryrie, p.
103). The second guideline to develop your gift, is that you must be attentive to the ministry of
others in the body of Christ, because gifted people minister to equip you, for the work of service to

where tribal dance and song were praises to the gods or just to rejoice in happiness. Though Africans

Dreams As A Mode Of Freedom
The theme of dreams as a mode of freedom, an escape, is commonly seen in the literature of African
American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of slavery.
While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no way a static
matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the sentiments of
their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the country and
the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and creatively.
Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of death to escape
slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more hopeful future.
While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy
attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes's work can mainly be seen as the turning point
for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors and
figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the time,
Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn't be until many years later that the full
breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and Martin
Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and King Jr.
reflects those of Hughes'

Introduction All over the world, spiritual gifts continue to be a debatable issue with Christians and
non–Christian groups. Therefore, in this essay, defining the information on spiritual gifts is
discussed and how it is distinguished from the Spiritual fruits. Also, the identity of spiritual maturity
is addressed. Throughout this essay, the topic of speaking in tongues and how today's society view
the speaking in tongues. Finally, if it is valid and how some Church's groups see the speaking in

Also, of these groups, each also believes that it promotes their spirituality and enable them to be
baptized by the Holy Spirits, in which that it expands the evidence of their speaking in the tongues.
However, the phenomenon reports and impressions about is the speaking in tongues Biblical
continues to be an enormous matter that continues to be debatable of the Reformed Christians? On
the other hand, it is the ignorance and the misinformation that has enabled many individuals to
obtain the wrong meaning of the speaking in tongues. First and foremost, it is the fundamental
elements that allow for the understanding of the speaking in tongues. In the Greek Bible, it applies
to the real organ within the mouth. When anyone spoke tongues in the Bible, it was other languages,
but not a language that consisted of the gibberish disorder. However, in Acts 2:3 God used the
prophecy of tongues to signify the torrential out of the Holy Spirit. It demonstrated that the Holy
Spirit is about the washing of all tongues. Moreover, the tongue represents the organ of language,
and the fire embodies the cleansing supremacy of the Holy Spirit to these additional languages.

The Powerful Gifts Of The Holy Spirit
The adversary causes plenty of division within the church over many issues. One debate in
particular is the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit. Fortunately, it's not the argument of whether or
not the charismatic spiritual gifts were part of the first century. However, the major issue at hand is
whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts are still used in today's church, or not? There are many
beliefs of charismatic gifts, based off denominational sectors, church affiliations, personal
experiences, and last but not least interpretation or should I say misinterpretation of the Scriptures.
Many believers of Christ believe that the charismatic gifts cease after the Bible was established, and
at the end of the Apostolic age. This group is better known as cessationists. In contrast, there are
believers that believe that the charismatic gifts are prevalent, and available to believers today. This
group is better known as continuationists. This topic can really get out of hand on both sides of the
debate. The one group that says they have ceased, can be extreme by saying, "people who believe
they have charismatic spiritual gifts they are demonic influenced". Then the opposing side says, if
you don't believe that the charismatic spiritual gifts are still in use, then you are not saved. In my
personal opinion, theses agitators are totally wrong. What is very interesting is that both views use
the Scriptures to support what they believe. However, there is a middle

Short Essay on Pneumatology: Spiritual Gifts
It's been quite a while, since we last spoken. I understand that you have some questions concerning
Spiritual Gifts, in particular speaking in tongues. Unfortunately this is a widely debated subject in
the body of Christ. This subject is so controversial it has split churches, and continues to separate
denominations. However the bible tells us in Proverbs "In all thy getting, get an understanding." The
Bible also tell us that "My people parish because of the lack of knowledge." So to answer your
questions, let's see what the word has to say concerning Spiritual Gifts, and speaking in tongues.

The book of Acts is its foundation stone. If the book of Acts were excluded from the discussion
there would be no other source of information since the only other passage in the New Testament
that discusses tongues at any length is 1 Corinthians 12–14 which clearly teaches all do not speak in
tongues. Also, Paul examines tongues as one of many differing spiritual gifts that are given freely by
the Spirit after one has been baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13). No "initial
evidence" is then present in the Epistles.
God place the gifts in the body for edification of the church, however there is no substitute for love
according to 1 Corinthians 13:8–10. Paul goes on to commend charity, and show how much it is
preferable to the gifts on which the Corinthians were so apt to pride themselves, to the utter neglect,
and almost extinction, of charity. Spiritual gifts such as prophecy, tongues, and knowledge will
cease at the end of this age. That time is described as "when that which is perfect is come" at the end
of history, when the believers knowledge and character become perfect in eternity after Christ's
second coming. Until then we need the Holy Spirit in our churches. There is no indication here or
elsewhere in scripture that the manifestation of the Spirit through His gifts would cease at the end of
the first century.

The Spiritual Gift Of Administration
The spiritual Gift of Administration The spiritual Gift of Administration according to the Greek
terminology refer to the word Kubernesis which mean a shipmaster or a captain. This is one that has
the capabilities of steering and guiding a ship safely into harbor. The captain in this case we are
speaking of would be God who distributes the gift of administration to accomplish His given goals.
The administrator are given directives to plan, organize, and supervise others. The application of
effectively leading the body of the church are essential for the movement forward of the body. These
skills are critical in effecting the accomplishment of goals that have been set for a mission of
strategic plan. This required a leader who has the love of Christ in him to move in the right direction
with the right source of confidence. The gift of administration must be effectively use to break
through any obstacle the body would encounter. This mean to acquire some skill of leadership that
must line up with god's character and ways which is not what you or the world think is the right way
to do things. The person would be empowered by the Holy Spirit and not self–determination
pushing through no matter what to accomplish or what you think should be done. These objectives
would be accomplished with godly possession to produce eternal results not letting the end justify
the means. The leaders must develop his skill to accomplish the objective and improve the
implementation of other

Speaking in tongues is still valid in today's church. I Cointhians 13:8–10 tells us that at the point that
spiritual maturity is reached, prophecies that have not yet come to pass will fail, and that the gift of
speaking in tongues will stop. Even the knowledge that we will have up to that time will dissipate.
This is because the gifts that we currently have are partial gifts. We do not know them in their
completion. Upon attaining spiritual maturity all things will come to completion doing away with
anything that was not whole.
According to Coffman's Commentary on the Old and New Testament the passage of scripture found
in I Corinthian 13:8–10 are about the permanence of love in contrast to the spiritual gifts that the
people in the church at Corinth valued. It is in this part of Paul's letter that he explains to them that
the very things that they cherished and valued in their hearts which were their Spiritual Gifts would
come to an abrupt end when Christ returned. He wanted them to understand that the only thing that
they possessed that would remain was love. Also according to Coffman, the spiritual gifts that were
being treasured were given to the people as they were in their infancy or the beginning stages of
their Christianity. Once they reached the age of maturation the infantile gifts would no longer

Spiritual gifts are capacities given to believers in Christ or "useful functions for God" in spiritual
service. The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23) is produced in believers by the Spirit to sanctify
them through the production of His character. Spiritual gifts are abilities used in service to God
while spiritual fruit involves the character of Christians. The Fruit of the Spirit, produced only by

Exploring Christmas : The True Meaning Of Christmas
Christians celebrate Christmas as the birth of Christ; the rejoicing in the birth of our savior, and His
influence on our lives today. It can also be a time of healing and renewed strength. While looking
back and celebrating the birth of Christ, it should also be a time of looking ahead in preparation
when He will come again. Many people lose sight of this perspective and get entwined in the
worldly trappings of the holidays. They forget there is a spiritual meaning that does not require
boxes and bows, but rather service and love. In our family, this is significant to our religious beliefs
and what my parents hold sacred. The true meaning of Christmas is unconditional love for and
service to others. Three words come to mind when I think about the Christmas season: faith, hope
and love. The faith that there is a divine power who watches over us each and every day. The hope
of a better day today and a greater tomorrow still to come. The love of family and warm friends
preparing a holiday meal and breaking bread with one another. These three emotions are the reasons
this particular time of year fills my heart with such joy. A hope for a sense of awakening religious
traditions and the spiritual realization of the true meaning of Christmas. As you grow up, you learn
that the presents are not the most important aspect of Christmas. Some people cherish when their
family gets together to celebrate, others may enjoy decorating the tree and wrapping presents. It

Essay on Negro Spirituals
Negro Spirituals
Spirituals, a religious folk song of American origin, particularly associated with African–American
Protestants of the southern United States. The African–American spiritual, characterized by
syncopation, polyrhythmic structure, and the pentatonic scale of five whole tones, is, above all, a
deeply emotional song. Spirituals are really the most characteristic product of the race genius as yet
in America. But the very elements which make them uniquely expressive of the Negro make them at
the same time deeply representative of the soil that produced them. Spirituals were long thought to
be the only original folk music of the United States, and research into its origin centered mainly on
the nature and extent of its African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While work songs dealt only with their daily life, spirituals were inspired by the message of Jesus
Christ and his Good News (Gospel) of the Bible, "You can be saved". They are different from
hymns and psalms, because they were a way of sharing the hard condition of being a slave. Many
slaves in town and in plantations tried to run to a "free country", that they called "my home" or
"Sweet Canaan, the Promised Land". This country was on the Northern side of Ohio River, that they
called "Jordan". Some negro spirituals refer to the Underground Railroad, an organization for
helping slaves to run away.
The Spirituals are spiritual. Conscious artistry and popular conception alike should never rob them
of this heritage, untrue to their tradition and to the folk genius to give them another tone. That they
are vulnerable of both crude and refined secularization is no excuse. Even though their own makers
worked them up from the "shout" and the rhythmic elements of the sensuous dance, in
their finished form and basic emotional effect all of these elements were completely sublimated in
the sincere intensities of religious seriousness. To call them Spirituals and treat them otherwise is a
travesty. Emotionally, African slave songs were far from simple. They are not only spread over the
whole length of human moods, with the traditional religious overtone skillfully insinuated in each

Wagner's Interpretation Of Spiritual Gifts
Introduction
C. Peter Wagner (2012) defines a spiritual gift as attribute given to each member of the body of
Christ, according to God's grace to be used for the church. Every believer possesses unique God
given spiritual gifts. These gifts are given to us to further His kingdom and to bring Him glory. The
Biblical reference to Spiritual gifts are found in four passages: Romans 12:6–8, 1 Corinthians 12:8–
10; 28–30, Peter 4:9–11, and Ephesians 4:11. They are Leadership, Administration, Knowledge,
Teaching, Exhortation, Faith, Wisdom, Prophecy, Discernment, Shepherding, Evangelism, Faith,
Serving, Pastoring, Apostleship, Hospitality, Mercy, and Interpretation of Tongues. And God has
appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of
healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:28, ESV).
Spiritual Gifts
After completing the "Discover Your Spiritual Gifts" survey, the spiritual gifts I appear to be the
strongest in are Knowledge, Administration, Teaching, Leadership, and Faith.
Knowledge
The spiritual gift of knowledge means having the understanding of the things of in our life and in the
world that are founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul spoke of knowledge in 1 Corinthians 12:8
(ESV), "For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance
of knowledge according to the same Spirit".

Negro Spirituals
From this point of view we have essentially four classes, the almost ritualistic prayer songs or pure
Spirituals, the freer and more unrestrained evangelical "shouts" or camp–meeting songs, the folk
ballads so overlaid with the tradition of the Spirituals proper that their distinctive type quality has
almost been unnoticed until lately, and the work and labor songs of strictly significant character.
Indeed, in the pure Spirituals one can trace the broken fragments of an evangelical folk liturgy, with
confession, exhortation, "mourning," conversion and "love–feast" rejoicing as the general stages of a
Protestant folk–mass. It is not a question of religious content or allusion, for the great majority of
the Negro songs have this more delicate question of caliber of feeling and type of folk use. The
distinctiveness of the Spirituals after all and their finest meaning resides in their musical elements.
The characteristic beauty of the folk song is harmonic, in distinction to the more purely rhythmic
stress in the secular music of the Negro, which is the basis of "ragtime" and "jazz"; while regarding
the one as the African component in them, and the other as the modifying influence of the religious
hymn.
In the United States the rhythmic element, though still dominant, has ceded measurably to the
melodic, the dance having given way to religious worship,

Notes On 9 Spiritual Gifts Essay
I Introduction
God 's love shown brilliantly, when he robed himself in flesh, bled, died on the cross and rose again
that we may have salvation. I always think of the old hymn "When he was on the cross I was on his
mind". No longer under the Law of Moses, or the dispensation of the law, but now under Grace.
Once salvation is complete we begin to further our relationship into the Spiritual Gifts. Matthew
7:11 KJV "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more
shall your father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask? With 9 spiritual gifts, God
would enable us with power and authority to be able to fulfill our purpose here on earth. Wisdom,
Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Prophecy, Discernment, Tongues and Interpretation of
Tongues. With the Baptism of the Spirit and the Spiritual Gifts, God mad sure his people were well
equipped.
II. Baptism of the Holy Spirit
One important fact about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is that it is a gift. It's not something we
earn, with merit or even personal righteousness. We in our selves are never upright, good or
righteous enough to earn the Baptism of the Spirit. In the same way we would receive a gift on
Christmas day from our parents, we didn't earn that gift but they love us and give us gifts of love.
The Baptism of the Spirit is not to be earned, but received from a loving father. Therefore all that is
required of us is to receive it. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is

Brief Summary Of The Book 'The Gift' By Mauss
In the book 'The gift', Mauss demonstrates how in all societies, individuals should have the rights
and freedom to choose whether they want to give gifts, however, he notices that giving gifts are
compulsory in most societies. Mauss speaks about a study that explains how giving gifts is done as a
whole rather than between individuals. The gifts were not only materialistic such as possessions and
prosperity but through festivities and events such as rituals and dances. These type of gifts resemble
peace, respect, and honor. Mauss describes this as a 'system of total services' which indicates that the
gifts represented are beneficial to the whole society through reciprocation. In this book, Mauss
explains the diversity of gift giving in different tribes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, another form of gift giving is the kula trade which is seen as a prestige and a honorable trade
held in reserve for the chiefs only in the tribe. When gifts are given to chiefs, it needs to be passed
on from chief to chief after a specific period of time. Mauss explains different types of terms for
different gift giving. One of the many terms he mentions, the term 'kudu' which means that a gift
must be given and must be reciprocated at an equal value. The three important rules that need to be
followed in a Potlatch is to give, to accept and receive, and to reciprocate. If any of the rules are
broken, a punishment comes along with it in a form of slavery. Mauss speaks as well about different
religions and cultures and about their gift giving. He explains in the law of Hindu that the gift given
to an individual is beneficial to their present life and in their next life. Through Mauss's
observations, he has realized that not everything is surrounded around the idea of business and
selling, it is more than that. It is about kindness, communal service, unity, cooperation and

The Holy Spirit Is The Giver Of Spiritual Gifts
The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, and is equal in essence and in power in the Trinity to the
Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit was originally sent by Jesus after his ascension into heaven,
Jesus himself saying that he would send a "helper" after he departed from the earth. This spirit is
worshipped just as the Father and the Son are, and also participated in the creation of the world,
sustaining and giving life continually to all things, and exhibits the uniqueness and characteristics of
the third person in the Trinity. This is the same Holy Spirit that divinely inspired the infallible word
of God, and although the canon is now closed, the Holy Spirit still works powerfully and constantly
in the life of the church and in believers. The Holy Spirit is the giver of spiritual gifts, which are
given at conversion and help the believer become more like their creator. The presence of the Holy
Spirit is evident in the life of all true believers, and this Spirit turns cowardly men into mighty
warriors for Christ who accomplish actions way beyond their natural ability.
The Holy Spirit also brings conviction to the believer about sin, which brings Christians to
repentance and right standing in the eyes of God. Without the Holy Spirit, people are not saved, but
with this Spirit our bodies become a dwelling place of the Lord. The Holy Spirit is also a teacher,
and with the Spirit people can rightfully understand the concept of truth and what truth entails,

Introduction Growing up in and out of church I have not only heard about the Holy Spirit but also
seen the works of the Holy Spirit and the gifts that accompany it. The Holy Spirit plays a key role in

Etzell and Gutierrez states that the "indwelling of the Holy Spirit is something that an individual
experiences at the moment of conversion, and it is something that cannot be taken away" (Etzell
& Gutierrez, 2015, p. 189). Even when I chose to turn my back on the Lord I found that I still
had moments where the Holy Spirit would tug on my heart and make me rethink my actions in a
Christ–like view. In order to fulfill Gods great commission we must have the baptism of the Holy
Spirit. "When Jesus sent his disciples out, he promised them power" (The Greatness of The Great
Commission , p. 09). Without this power we do not have the ability or the correction and guidance
needed to evangelize into the corruptions of the world. For we are not capable of leading people to
the Lord alone. We must do it through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. "The Holy Spirit guides the
thoughts that should be thought, words that should be spoken, and actions that should be performed
through intensifying a believers conviction to spiritual truth" (Etzell & Gutierrez, 2015). The
Holy Spirit is often times linked with revival. "During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries
especially, many communities experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit" (The Reality of
Revival ). These outpourings have been seen since the time the apostles

Pentecostal Spiritual Gifts
Introduction Recently, there has been a rise concerning spiritual gifts. New Charismatic and
Pentecostal movements that have recognized the availability of these gifts have grown exponentially
in the past century and, subsequently, have brought interest into the practice of these gifts. Spiritual
gifts are not without controversy. Christians who believe that certain spiritual gifts have ceased
disagree with Christians who pertain to these new movements. Through careful consideration over
Scripture, however, one could adhere that all scriptural spiritual gifts are available today since the
purpose of them is yet fulfilled, namely, the edification of the church remains necessary, and, in
spite of unbiblical misuses of these gifts, most of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, the phrase "sign gifts" is seldom present in Pentecostal and Charismatic circles. This is
because they do not believe that gifts of the New Testament have ceased. Therefore, they do not
believe that they existed merely to provide a sign for apostolic revelation. Since they believe that
these gifts have continued, believers of these movements are known as continuationists; whereas,
those who believe that these gifts have ceased are known as cessationists. These two parties dispute
the present validity of the spiritual gifts that Zondervan Illustrated Bible Dictionary succinctly
listed: "the ability to speak an unlearned tongue (1 Cor. 14:1–33), the interpretation of tongues
(12:30; 13:27–28), power to drive out evil spirits (Matt. 8:16; Acts 13:7–12), special ability in
healing the sick (1 Cor. 12:9), prophecy (Rom. 12:6), and special wisdom and knowledge (1 Cor.
12:8)." Although these parties may agree on the present availability of the practice of certain gifts,
continuationists believe that all of these gifts are available for any Christian to use. However, as
Elmer Towns wrote, according to cessationists, "The miraculous sign gifts were present in the first
century to confirm apostolic revelation, but are no longer to be expected today." Towns argument
began by stating that these gifts were to be a sign to the Jews. According to him, gifts were
necessary for the Jews to cease Temple worship and animal sacrifice. Sadly, nowhere in the Bible is
this idea explicitly stated. Unwaveringly, Towns referenced 1 Corinthians 1:22: "As the church
entered an age of ministry primarily geared at Gentiles, signs became less important, "For the Jews
require a sign and the Greeks seek after wisdom" (1 Cor. 1:22)." In verse 23, Paul continued to
write, "but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness."

BARBARA TODD

Introduction The charismatic gifts debate is an important topic today developed over time in three
phases. The first phase began with the Pentecostalism in the first century. The second phase began in
the 1960s with the charismatic movement. The third phase began in the 1980s in the Western world.
Charismatic gifts are wisdom, knowledge, faith, gift of healing, performance of miracles, prophecy,
ability to differentiate spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. These gifts are
stated in 1 Corinthians 12:8–10. Christians believe that the Holy Spirit is working in each of us and
gives us gifts to do the ministry that God has called us to. "But evangelical Christians are divided on
the issue of whether charismatic gifts are for today and should be practiced today." There are two
sides to this debate. On one side is the continuationist view and on the other side is the cessationist
view. The question being asked is "Were these gifts intended by God to be used throughout the
entire church age until the Lord returns?" The continuationists asserts that these gifts are meant for
Christians today along with all the other gifts in the New Testament and will continue to the end of
the age. The

Blankets In First Nation Connotations
Throughout the centuries, the gift of a blanket has been associated with feelings of warmth, respect
and kindness from those giving a blanket towards those receiving it. Our article below covers just a
few of the aspects that come to mind when we give a blanket as a gift or even when we dream about
blankets in a dream or see one in a vision of sorts.
Blankets In First Nation Connotations
Depending on the particular first nation identity, such as Dakota, or even down to specific tribes
within a first nation, the blanket may mean something different from one national identity to
another. Moreover, they may be given during different times for various reasons.
For instance, a respected Teton Sioux elder may choose to wrap a wool blanket around ... Show

In other words, the spirit of the father transfers to the younger who then passes it on to perhaps a
misunderstood child later on in life. Essentially, with the mere laying on of a blanket on their
shoulders or on their backs, an adoption process takes place; moreover, the family and tribe grows
with subsequent members who then become part of the community.
Blanket–Giving In Other Cultures
Once again, depending on the culture in which blankets are given, blankets become talismans and
take on a spiritual dimension especially when worn in some dance ritual. Blankets can symbolize
transitions in life such as weddings, graduations or new additions to a family. They can also mean
legendary events, stories and the culture's heritage.
As such, they express a form of craftsmanship, artistry, history and the represented culture itself.
Blankets can even facilitate travel by transferring the spirits of those who gave them as companions
on a distance journey.
In some South African and Lesotho cultures, blankets mark rites of passage. In certain parts of
China, blankets are among the most cherished gifts that are commonly given. For the Australian and
New Zealand Aboriginals, they believe that the giving of blankets initiates a stream of good dreams

Spiritual Gifts Analysis
I was truly looking forward to this assignment. The assessment shows that my top spiritual gifts are:
Mercy–Showing, Shepherding, and Administration. I can see how accurate this assessment is by
looking at the results. God has given me a compassionate heart, which compassion leads to mercy. I
can't explain the fact that no matter what, I will always have mercy on others. I ask God, how could
I feel mercy towards someone who scarred me for life, and He reminded me that was Him through
me. By God showing mercy on me, he taught me how to have mercy on others. "Blessed are the
merciful, for they will be shown mercy" (Matthew 5:7, New International Bible).
My second top gift is Shepherding, and I see this every day in me. I remember that the church push
away a sheep and the sheep got lost. I say that because this sheep committed adultery, and instead of
the church having mercy the church judges him. My husband and I left everything behind and went

I do have to say that I don't enjoy Administration but God knew that I needed it because it
contributes a lot to my ministry. By keeping my time organized I'm able to have time for everything,
which it pleases God. I believe my strengths will impact my ministry by bringing back many lost
sheep. There's too many sheep and not enough shepherds. They are too many people lost and not
many people willing to go after them. There are people who left the church because they fall and
they need someone to lift them up, hug them and tell them "God loves you and He is waiting for
you." There are people out there who haven't forgiven themselves and they need to be shown mercy.
They need to be reminded that God has already forgiven them and that they are loved and wanted.
Administrating my time will make going after others possible. The ministry is impacted when
through us God brings the rest of His children

The Outline Of My Overview Of Soul Gifting To Christ
In outreach, I would profile the individual and connect to the synopsis of my outline of them and
mostly I am usually right. I then build a rapport and get them to trust me. I use my gifts in building
trust in the first (8) minutes. I have many experiences witnessing, but souls winning to Christ in my
opinion are a hit or miss. Everyone is different in personality style and temperament. When they
reject (The Word of God) they don't reject you...it is Christ they reject. In my viewpoint, the more
exposure and experience an ambassador has, the better they will become at soul winning. Soul
winning is something I look at as a spiritual gift from God. The individual ambassador builds on
his/her gifts. My aim is to be "great at my job as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hectic career as a teacher and professor, plus he had no relationship with her. Regrettably, the
request was denied by him.

African American Culture
n the African American Culture, we are often copied in many different ways. From our hairstyles,
dances, art, lifestyle, clothing , etc. The African–American culture hardly receives credit for what we
do. Celebrities like the Kardashian's for example, they've used our ( the African–American culture)
hairstyles and acted as if it was their creation by giving them new names. So, now everyone outside
of the African–American culture tries it and acts like They've never seen it. We've been wearing
braids and cornrows since forever! Living in the African–American culture we are very
misunderstood. Many take the way that some of us talk or look as aggressive when we really are
nice and very respectable. We were taught to always respect our elders and to also treat the janitor
with the same respect as the CEO. Many also take our slang and automatically thinks that we're
uneducated. We are some very intelligent people actually they we talk shouldn't put us in such a
category. We go to school like everyone else and earn diplomas and degrees. Another thing about
growing up in the African–American culture is that many of us were very religious. They sung old
negro spirituals that until this day are still being used to help us get through tough times. We have
always had faith that's how we've accomplished so much. One thing I can say is that African–
American culture has changed inn many ways with slavery being one of them. Our ancestors were
slaves and fought so that we can be free and we are. African–American culture was more religious
based but those times have changed within some families of our culture with this new era. We were
always taught how to survive even in the worst conditions. If it's one thing that we know how to do
it's how to survive. The African–American culture is treated bad on a daily basis but, we don't let it
stop us. Whenever we fall, we get right back up but stronger and better this time. The Black Power
movement is very important to us. Know that Black Power is real and we will reign. Our leadership
skills are amazing. We were taught to use our creativity to achieve and to never give up. Growing up
in the African–American culture, is pretty exciting I would say. We love soul food Sundays with

Discipleship Research Paper
Introduction Making disciples is the all–encompassing purpose of the church. Many churches do a
tremendous amount of work toward the goal of making disciples, but sometimes it is in an unhealthy
manner. Just as a healthy person is going to have the most positive productivity in life, a healthy
church will also have the most constructive output of discipleship. In this paper, I will explain how a
healthy church is the goal for discipleship. In addition, I will examine my personal church context
and identify the top three areas that I need to focus on to create a healthier body of Christ. Finally, I
will discuss some initials steps that can be made to improve its spiritual health.
The Goal The apostle Paul refers to the church as the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 says, "For
as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are
one body: so also is Christ." The church is one body and all who are baptized are "one in Christ."
Just as a body can and should be healthy, a church body can and should be healthy as well. Putman
et al. says that a healthy church looks and acts like a healthy body. While studying to be a registered
nurse years ago, I had the opportunity to dive deep into study of the systems of the body. The body
is tremendously complex and each system works with one another to make the body function as a
whole. If one part of the body is suffering, many times it negatively impacts other parts of the body.

Spiritual Gifts also benefits the individual Christian by working within themselves while being

Spiritual Gifts in the Early Church
The first evidence of the Holy Spirit giving gifts can be seen in Acts. "And they were all filled with
the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance." [Act
2:4 NASB]. The power and presence of the Holy Spirit can be seen here in a new way that has not
been presented before in history. The Holy Spirit has descended upon humans and given them
abilities that they were capable of on their own but empowered to do so.
In the time immediately after Pentecost Spiritual Gifts was one of the ways that a true Apostle could
be identified. This was a way for the common man to determine if God approved of the person
claiming to be an Apostle.
In the early Church the Holy Spirit was known to work in the lives of believers, but hardly anything
was written about it. In the late second century early Church fathers began working out a Doctrine
of the Holy Spirit. Their initial focus was mainly on the relationship to the Father and the

A Biblical Study of Spiritual Gift of Tongues Essay
Continuists argue that the spiritual gift of tongues still continue today. To understand this fully, we
need to remind ourselves of the primary purpose of the spiritual gifts and the spiritual gift of
speaking in tongues. Donald W. Burdick refutes the argument of the cessationists using I
Corinthians 13:8. According to him, "we must notice, however, that this verse does not say that
tongues were to cease at the end of the apostolic age." However, he also concluded that healings,
tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, and other gifts which may have been objectively
miraculous in nature fade not due to the sagging spiritual life of the church as claimed by the
Pentecostals, but because they have fulfilled their purpose.
Argument 3: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There, the people are willingly giving their lives away for the Gospel – enduring beatings and
hardships, imprisonments and poverty. The Church in these places is more like the Church in
Smyrna [Rev 2:8], where believers suffered and died for the faith. It is surely unjust to class them
with the Laodicean church. What is true that during every age, the Seven Churches provide
examples and warnings to the Body of Christ as types of faithfulness and failure.
Conclusion
Spiritual gift of tongue is surely an interesting topic. A thorough study of this topic must be explored
by the church to understand fully its biblical meaning, purpose, characteristics, regulations, and life.
Each believer of the church must understand this doctrine so that they will be armed in battle or
spiritual warfare. This gift was given to the church by the God through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost,
the birth of the church, to validate the apostles as the messengers of God, with God's message. It is
also verified by various sources cited above that the glossolalia, or the tongue speaking meant by
Paul in his epistles were literal language known to man, a foreign language that may not be known
to the speaker that's why an interpreter who has the gift of interpretation has to be present each time
it happens to interpret the utterances, thus, this is not a result of ecstatic utterance or in a trance. The

Ephesians : Christ : The Gifts Of The Spiritual Authority
It is heaven alone that makes and breaks a vessel for divine service. No man can enter into a
spiritual service without being called of God. In Ephesians 4:11, Paul lists the fivefold ministry gifts
given to the church. "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and
some, pastors and teachers."These ministries are a direct result of the Lord's resurrection and
ascension unto the right hand of the Father. The "right hand" represents authority; therefore, the
ministry gifts constitute God's delegated authority upon the earth. Spiritual authority is God
appointed. Regardless of a man's natural abilities, religious zeal, holy ambitions, or good intentions
one has to be chosen solely by God. If not selected first by God, then ordained by men, one is
simply false. Much confusion could be eliminated within the Body if this was taught.
The prophet is one selected from amid the people to be God's spokesperson. Frequently, our calling
is pre–determined before birth, but this is not across the board. Moses spoke of the prophetical
ministry of Jesus some fifteen hundred years prior to His birth. "I will raise them up a Prophet from
among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto
them all that shall command him" (Deuteronomy 18:18). David, also a prophet of God, wrote, "By
thee have I been held up from the womb; thou art he who took me out of my mother; my praise shall
be continually of thee. I am as a wonder unto many but thou art my strong defense" (Psalms 71:6–
8). God announced to the timid Jeremiah, "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before
thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations"
(Jeremiah 1:5). Samson was also called and ordained prior to conception. The apostle Paul received
a revelation concerning his calling. Though he was a ruthless persecutor of the church of Jesus
Christ, God had separated him from his mother's womb at birth and called him to be an apostle to
the Gentiles (Galatians 1:15–16).
Those who fully understand this fact will set aside every weight and be about their Father's business.
Our purpose for existing is to fulfill God's will upon the

Leadership Assessment And Spiritual Leadership Gifts Test
Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Whether, a
political leader, an administrator family head or an individual pursuing a passionate, personal cause,
a leader must also use management skills to guide other people to the right destination, in a smooth
and efficient way. A good leadership style refers to a leader's characteristic behaviors when
directing, motivating, guiding and managing groups of people. Great leaders can inspire political
movements and social change. They can also motivate others to perform, create and innovate. The
reason godly leaders should be diligent in their service is because we are working for the Lord and
not for men. He is the one who will reward us, even if we are mistreated by our employers or others.

The Holy Gift : The Spiritual Gifts Of The Holy Spirit
"GIFT–GIVING"
GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
INTRODUCTION
The Holy Spirit, the third person of God, is the dynamic agent that both leads us toward Christ and
transforms us through and in him. Upon a believer's conversion and regeneration , the Holy Spirit
continues to work; the Spirit dwells actively in Christians doing many facets of work like
empowering, illumining, teaching, reproving, interceding, sanctifying, and bestowing gifts . Often
the overlooked work of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual gifts he entrusts to believers are important for
the growth of both the believer and Christ's bride, the church. God's desire is for us to be informed
about the gifts his Spirit gives (1 Corinthians 12:1), and it is our obligation and should be our desire
to understand the giving of, the exercise of and the purpose in spiritual gifts. This paper endeavors to
present a synopsis of this subject.
GIFTS DEFINED
Spiritual gifts should loosely be defined as "God–given" abilities supplied by the Holy Spirit as
prescribed and purposed by the Father (Acts 2:38). 1 Corinthians 12:7 assures believers: "But to
each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the
Holy Spirit] for the common good", and James 1:17 encourages Christians: "Every good thing given
and every perfect gift is from above;". Christians therefore have been bestowed with special,
supernatural, God–ordained and Holy Spirit supplied abilities (gifts) at their conversion that are
intended to be used for the work of the Lord in producing fruit (John 5:16). Identifying a believer's
God–given gifts is subsequent for their continued growth and effectiveness in Christ.
GIFTS IDENTIFIED
Key passages that identify spiritual gifts are Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. The
following list is likely not exhaustive, but is representative of many gifts the Holy Spirit has
revealed in the Word. Romans 12 speaks about exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy, prophecy,
service, and teaching. 1 Corinthians addresses administration, apostleship, discernment, faith,
healing, helping, knowledge, miracles, prophecy, teaching, tongues, interpretation, and wisdom.
Ephesians 4 discusses apostleship, evangelism, pastoring,

The Spiritual Gift Of Apostles And Prophets
Introduction The Word of God instructs Christians that "the body of Christ" is "built on the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone" (Eph. 2:20).
Nevertheless, the debate is still on going if the office of the apostles and prophets ceased during the
"Apostolic Age" or if it has continued on to the present day. This research paper will offer the
Charismatic Movement opinion that advocates the interpretation of modern day apostles and
prophets. A history of Charismatic theology will be provided. A survey of modern–day apostles and
prophets will be examined. An assessment of these viewpoints will be explained and the conclusion
will close out the research paper. How to uncover your spiritual gift is an important start for every
believer to further the body of Christ. Every spiritual gift is a reflection of God's nature that is within
every believer, and understanding these gifts is imperative. The spiritual gift of apostle and prophet
was the first and most important gift given after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Over the last 1,800 years the government of the church, mostly the legal structure of Roman
Catholic Church and Protestant Churches has had little to say about apostles and prophets. However,
in more recent times apostles and prophets have been reemerging and taking their place in
leadership within the church. This research paper will try to help the reader come to a conclusion on
whether

Use Of Language And Concepts Depicted Throughout The...
Expression is imperative to the human condition and is the primary reason why music has managed
to subside throughout the centuries in various forms. For many, music extends beyond rhythm and
beat, and is a means of communicating one's experiences and narrating those experiences to their
comprehension of the world. For African Americans, music was a symbol of cultural identity and a
way to translate the daily oppressions they were forced to endure. Insight and evidence into this is
depicted widely throughout the Spirituals and the Blues, where the hardships of slavery and troubles
associated with being African American are greatly expressed. While African American music has
evolved and new genres have sprung into existence, differences in the ways that they communicate
and express themselves have arisen. However, some aspects have remained similar and language
usage has demonstrated a correlation between the two. The songs "Soon I Will Be Done" and
"Trouble in Mind" demonstrate how use of language and concepts depicted within the Blues emits
evidence to its emergence from the spirituals. In the spiritual "Soon I Will Be Done", the writer
discusses how the sufferings and difficulties that they are momentarily facing will transcend into a
distant memory due to the hope that is near. This hope is evidently God as the writer clearly states
"Soon I will be done with the troubles of the world. Going home to live with God". Throughout the
Spiritual, the writer's circumstances are

Spiritual Gifts Sermon By Homi 860-397 Luo

  • 1. Spiritual Gifts Sermon By Homi 860-397 Luo Spiritual Gifts Sermon HOMI 860–397 LUO Jonathan Behler L23929745 In today's sermon we will be discussing the gifts of the Spirit. When we become indwelled by the Holy Spirit we receive spiritual blessings. Spiritual gifts are crucial to the growth of the church. If you are a Christian you possess a spiritual gift or gifts at the moment of salvation. Spiritual gifts edify the body of Christ. Today we will be focusing on what these gifts are and finding out more about their purpose in our lives. Scripture directs us to utilize our gifts to serve others within the church body. 1 Peter 2:10 (King James Version) says, "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:7–11 (King James Version), "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same spirit, to another gifts of healing, by one Spirit, to another miraculous powers to another to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues and still another the interpretation of tongues, all these are the work of one of the same spirit and He gives them to each one as he determines." We Christians are like body parts to Christ. But, it must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Spiritual Gifts : A Spiritual Gift Spiritual Gifts What is a Spiritual Gift? Spiritual Gifts are special abilities used for spiritual purposes given to each believer by the Holy Spirit, according to God's purpose for our lives, to accomplish a given ministry God 's way according to grace and discernment; to be used as the Body of Christ. What does the Bible say about Spiritual Gifts? There are different spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; and there are different ministries and the same Lord; and there are different activities but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good. A word of wisdom is given by the Spirit to one person, a word of knowledge to another according to the same Spirit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the same way, though there are many of us, we are one body in Christ, and individually we belong to each other. We have different gifts that are consistent with God's grace that has been given to us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your faith. If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is teaching, devote yourself to teaching. If your gift is encouragement, devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing mercy should be cheerful. Romans 12:4–8 God has given each believer a spiritual gift that He wants us to use for His glory. God wants us to be involved with His work. He is so gracious that by His Holy Spirit He freely distributes gifts to all who are saved. He not only wants us to know our spiritual gifts, but He expects us to grow in them each day. Why do we have spiritual gifts at all? To answer this let 's take a look at Scripture. In Acts 1:8, Jesus says, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Jesus is sharing with us a primary purpose of the gifts of the Spirit: to give the church power in order to preach Christ to the entire world. In Ephesians 4:12 Paul says another purpose of the gifts is to equip the church for building up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Personal Statement : Spiritual Gifts Joe Shun Chan Bae Professor Crump Religion 121 December 5th, 2014 Spiritual Gifts Spiritual gifts have been a topic of heated debate among a wide array of congregations and faith believers. Are these gifts just natural everyday abilities or miraculous one's on par with what Jesus showed on earth? Scripture gives some insight into these questions but with the power and flexibility of interpretation these answers are also obscured. Before any external analyses and opinions are examined, spiritual gifts should be explained in its original context of Scripture. When looked through the span of four specific New Testament Bible passages, spiritual gifts are given key distinctions. First of all, spiritual gifts are endowed by the Holy Spirit as it is stated in 1 Corinthians 8–10: To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. By the Spirit, we are able to use these gifts and it is this same Spirit that moved the disciples after Jesus ascended to Heaven. Also, spiritual gifts are graces endowed for the purpose of building up the body of Christ, or what is the church as it is stipulated in 1 Corinthians 14:12: "So it is with ... • 7. Persuasive Essay About Christmas What do you bring a King for his birthday? I think the wise men knew something we didn't. Seriously, when I go to a baby shower I usually bring diapers, bottles or clothing; not gold, frankincense and myrrh. Block Quote "When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." ~ Matthew 2:10–11 (NLT) As a family we go through great lengths to have everything in our home point back to Jesus so that we don't lose sight for why we celebrate Christmas. However, this year the Lord has really been working on our hearts in regards to how we give gifts. Our Tradition of Gift–Giving Usually weeks leading up to Christmas we spend time as a family sowing into others, serving in community outreaches, and giving gifts to those God has placed on our hearts. On Christmas morning there is great peace knowing we have made Christ the focus, given to those in need and now we can enjoy this time as a family. We typically start out with communion and prayer before opening gifts. And then our children look for their gifts wrapped in their special wrapping paper. As parents we don't overdue it, we keep it simple and that is usually dictated by a budget. But as I've been studying about the gifts the wise men brought Jesus, I began to consider how we can change our gift giving so that it too points back to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Spiritual And Discipleship Condition Essay "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (KJV Ps. 139:23–24). In this verse, David asks God to help him search his heart so that he can be closer to God. Without God, the process of self–evaluation is impossible as David states in his psalm. What makes David such a good source for advice? In the Bible, David is known as "a man after God's own heart" (1 Sam. 13:14). If David recognized the importance of self–evaluation, then every Christian should continually evaluate themselves according to God's principles in the Bible. In this paper, I will be examining my spiritual and discipleship condition in relation to myself, God, and others. In relation to myself, my biggest weakness would be my fear and anxiety. My biggest fear is change. In the past, I have had many bad experiences with change. For example, the most traumatic change in my life was the move from England to South Korea. The leaving behind of friends, culture, and comfort caused great distress. Another challenge and change was moving from South Korea to America when my mother became very sick. This change had a very big impact on anxiety as the fear of losing my mother changed me emotionally. During sixth grade, I went to the middle school and was bullied. This experience motivated me to become homeschooled. The most recent big change that I experienced was going to college. Because of my past traumatizing change, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Christmas : Psychological And Sociological Perspectives Christmas is the annual festival celebrating the birth of Jesus on the 25th December, at least that is what it began as initially. Since it has expanded into an international phenomenon for consumption, taking priority over our everyday practices of life (Michel De Certeau, 1980). Our time we spend divided between work and leisure in accordance to the codes and conventions of society shifts, Christmas derails these expectations. Yet surprisingly Christmas gains little attention in terms of social research, despite the fact that it can be explored diversely. The inquiry 'What is Christmas?' links to multiple aspects of social research. The aspects of Christmas can be subdivided into the following; religion, commercialism, gift–giving, social relationships, sensualism and mythology. This essay will analyse these fundamentals of Christmas through both psychological and sociological perspectives, as the theories among these two social sciences are best suited to the elements which make up Christmas itself. As aforementioned, the initial true meaning of Christmas is religion – one that has now been muchly downplayed. Of course at first glance religion is only an important element of Christmas for those who are actually religious, for which then religion plays the dominant role of what Christmas is to them. However, religion means to show obligation to something through faith, it could be argued that the majority of society is actually religious. We follow a society which has ... • 13. Spiritual Gifts : A Spiritual Gift Dear friend, I am glad you reached out to me on the topic of spiritual gifts. Knowing and understanding the different spiritual gifts is of key importance in the life of a Jesus follower. Not only for yourself, but also, for non–believers who may have the same questions and curiosities. There are several different spiritual gifts and each one serves a specific and meaningful purpose for the Kingdom of God. Let us begin with explaining what spiritual gifts are so that we can understand their unique purpose. Spiritual gifts are the direct result of the Holy Spirit of God living inside our being. The Holy Spirit lives only inside those who are born again in Christ Jesus. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'" (English Standard Version, John 3:6–7). Spiritual gifts are born of the Holy Spirit and each spiritual gift serves an individual purpose in the body of Christ. These spiritual gifts all come together for one universal purpose and that purpose is the building up of fellow believers and the Church so that they may be drawn nearer to Christ. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. • 15. Spiritual Gifts In The Bible Good Morning Jesse Long, I am so thankful that the Bible gives us doctrine that will aid you in discovering your spiritual gifts and how you can begin to use them. The first focus is to be fully informed about the different types of spiritual gifts in the Bible. Specifically, the Bible lists more than a dozen spiritual gifts as apostleship, prophecy, miracles, tongues, evangelism, pastor, ministering, teaching, faith, exhortation, discerning spirits, showing mercy, giving, and administration (Rom. 12:6–8, 1 Cor. 12:8–10, Eph. 4:8–13, KJV, Ryrie, p. 100). With that being said, every believer can have more than one spiritual gift, unless disobedience is present, all believers could have three gifts to use in the service of God (Ryrie, p. 101). ... You may have a part in the development of your spiritual gift; however, the Holy Spirit empowers you to use it and your diligent yieldedness will produce proper development (Ryrie, p. 101). Even more, the first biblical guideline, for spiritual development, is to first covet earnestly the bests gifts, by zealously pursuing your gift through self–preparation and frequently asking the Lord if you are doing all that you can to develop the gift He has given to you (1 Cor. 12:31, Ryrie, p. 103). The second guideline to develop your gift, is that you must be attentive to the ministry of others in the body of Christ, because gifted people minister to equip you, for the work of service to God (Eph. ... • 19. Dreams As A Mode Of Freedom The theme of dreams as a mode of freedom, an escape, is commonly seen in the literature of African American writers that can be traced as far back as the Negro Spirituals during the time of slavery. While the motif of dreams is used far and wide in African American literature, it is in no way a static matter, but rather a dynamic entity that writers internalize and redefine to express the sentiments of their time. The meaning of the dream progressed accordingly to racial tensions in the country and the freedom African Americans were allotted to express themselves politically and creatively. Starting with Negro Spirituals, hopes and dreams were often connected to a desire of death to escape slavery. Following emancipation though, the dream motif began to articulate a more hopeful future. While some of the poems by the Harlem Renaissance writer Langston Hughes harbor a melancholy attitude echoing that of the Negro Spirituals, Hughes's work can mainly be seen as the turning point for how the motif of dreams would be portrayed in the works of prominent black authors and figureheads. Langston Hughes was the beginning of the positive portrayal of the dream. At the time, Hughes flourished within his community and it wouldn't be until many years later that the full breadth of his work would be celebrated. He inspired the likes of Lorraine Hansberry and Martin Luther King Jr. to bring his message to the nation. The dreams expressed by Hansberry and King Jr. reflects those of Hughes' ... On the other hand, it is the ignorance and the misinformation that has enabled many individuals to obtain the wrong meaning of the speaking in tongues. First and foremost, it is the fundamental elements that allow for the understanding of the speaking in tongues. In the Greek Bible, it applies to the real organ within the mouth. When anyone spoke tongues in the Bible, it was other languages, but not a language that consisted of the gibberish disorder. However, in Acts 2:3 God used the prophecy of tongues to signify the torrential out of the Holy Spirit. It demonstrated that the Holy Spirit is about the washing of all tongues. Moreover, the tongue represents the organ of language, and the fire embodies the cleansing supremacy of the Holy Spirit to these additional languages. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Powerful Gifts Of The Holy Spirit The adversary causes plenty of division within the church over many issues. One debate in particular is the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit. Fortunately, it's not the argument of whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts were part of the first century. However, the major issue at hand is whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts are still used in today's church, or not? There are many beliefs of charismatic gifts, based off denominational sectors, church affiliations, personal experiences, and last but not least interpretation or should I say misinterpretation of the Scriptures. Many believers of Christ believe that the charismatic gifts cease after the Bible was established, and at the end of the Apostolic age. This group is better known as cessationists. In contrast, there are believers that believe that the charismatic gifts are prevalent, and available to believers today. This group is better known as continuationists. This topic can really get out of hand on both sides of the debate. The one group that says they have ceased, can be extreme by saying, "people who believe they have charismatic spiritual gifts they are demonic influenced". Then the opposing side says, if you don't believe that the charismatic spiritual gifts are still in use, then you are not saved. In my personal opinion, theses agitators are totally wrong. What is very interesting is that both views use the Scriptures to support what they believe. However, there is a middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This subject is so controversial it has split churches, and continues to separate denominations. However the bible tells us in Proverbs "In all thy getting, get an understanding." The Bible also tell us that "My people parish because of the lack of knowledge." So to answer your questions, let's see what the word has to say concerning Spiritual Gifts, and speaking in tongues. If the book of Acts were excluded from the discussion there would be no other source of information since the only other passage in the New Testament that discusses tongues at any length is 1 Corinthians 12–14 which clearly teaches all do not speak in tongues. Also, Paul examines tongues as one of many differing spiritual gifts that are given freely by the Spirit after one has been baptized by the Spirit into the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13). No "initial evidence" is then present in the Epistles. God place the gifts in the body for edification of the church, however there is no substitute for love according to 1 Corinthians 13:8–10. Paul goes on to commend charity, and show how much it is preferable to the gifts on which the Corinthians were so apt to pride themselves, to the utter neglect, and almost extinction, of charity. Spiritual gifts such as prophecy, tongues, and knowledge will cease at the end of this age. That time is described as "when that which is perfect is come" at the end of history, when the believers knowledge and character become perfect in eternity after Christ's second coming. Until then we need the Holy Spirit in our churches. There is no indication here or elsewhere in scripture that the manifestation of the Spirit through His gifts would cease at the end of the first century. Word Count–908 Bibliography R.S. Wallace and

The Spiritual Gift Of Administration The spiritual Gift of Administration The spiritual Gift of Administration according to the Greek terminology refer to the word Kubernesis which mean a shipmaster or a captain. This is one that has the capabilities of steering and guiding a ship safely into harbor. The captain in this case we are speaking of would be God who distributes the gift of administration to accomplish His given goals. The administrator are given directives to plan, organize, and supervise others. The application of effectively leading the body of the church are essential for the movement forward of the body. These skills are critical in effecting the accomplishment of goals that have been set for a mission of strategic plan. This required a leader who has the love of Christ in him to move in the right direction with the right source of confidence. The gift of administration must be effectively use to break through any obstacle the body would encounter. This mean to acquire some skill of leadership that must line up with god's character and ways which is not what you or the world think is the right way to do things. The person would be empowered by the Holy Spirit and not self–determination pushing through no matter what to accomplish or what you think should be done. These objectives would be accomplished with godly possession to produce eternal results not letting the end justify the means. Speaking in tongues is still valid in today's church. I Cointhians 13:8–10 tells us that at the point that spiritual maturity is reached, prophecies that have not yet come to pass will fail, and that the gift of speaking in tongues will stop. Even the knowledge that we will have up to that time will dissipate. This is because the gifts that we currently have are partial gifts. We do not know them in their completion. Upon attaining spiritual maturity all things will come to completion doing away with anything that was not whole. According to Coffman's Commentary on the Old and New Testament the passage of scripture found in I Corinthian 13:8–10 are about the permanence of love in contrast to the spiritual gifts that the people in the church at Corinth valued. It is in this part of Paul's letter that he explains to them that the very things that they cherished and valued in their hearts which were their Spiritual Gifts would come to an abrupt end when Christ returned. He wanted them to understand that the only thing that they possessed that would remain was love. Also according to Coffman, the spiritual gifts that were being treasured were given to the people as they were in their infancy or the beginning stages of their Christianity. • 35. Exploring Christmas : The True Meaning Of Christmas Christians celebrate Christmas as the birth of Christ; the rejoicing in the birth of our savior, and His influence on our lives today. It can also be a time of healing and renewed strength. While looking back and celebrating the birth of Christ, it should also be a time of looking ahead in preparation when He will come again. Many people lose sight of this perspective and get entwined in the worldly trappings of the holidays. They forget there is a spiritual meaning that does not require boxes and bows, but rather service and love. In our family, this is significant to our religious beliefs and what my parents hold sacred. The true meaning of Christmas is unconditional love for and service to others. Three words come to mind when I think about the Christmas season: faith, hope and love. The faith that there is a divine power who watches over us each and every day. The hope of a better day today and a greater tomorrow still to come. The love of family and warm friends preparing a holiday meal and breaking bread with one another. These three emotions are the reasons this particular time of year fills my heart with such joy. A hope for a sense of awakening religious traditions and the spiritual realization of the true meaning of Christmas. As you grow up, you learn that the presents are not the most important aspect of Christmas. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While work songs dealt only with their daily life, spirituals were inspired by the message of Jesus Christ and his Good News (Gospel) of the Bible, "You can be saved". They are different from hymns and psalms, because they were a way of sharing the hard condition of being a slave. Many slaves in town and in plantations tried to run to a "free country", that they called "my home" or "Sweet Canaan, the Promised Land". This country was on the Northern side of Ohio River, that they called "Jordan". Some negro spirituals refer to the Underground Railroad, an organization for helping slaves to run away. The Spirituals are spiritual. Conscious artistry and popular conception alike should never rob them of this heritage, untrue to their tradition and to the folk genius to give them another tone. That they are vulnerable of both crude and refined secularization is no excuse. Even though their own makers worked them up from the "shout" and the rhythmic elements of the sensuous dance, in their finished form and basic emotional effect all of these elements were completely sublimated in the sincere intensities of religious seriousness. To call them Spirituals and treat them otherwise is a travesty. Emotionally, African slave songs were far from simple. • 39. Wagner's Interpretation Of Spiritual Gifts Introduction C. Peter Wagner (2012) defines a spiritual gift as attribute given to each member of the body of Christ, according to God's grace to be used for the church. Every believer possesses unique God given spiritual gifts. These gifts are given to us to further His kingdom and to bring Him glory. The Biblical reference to Spiritual gifts are found in four passages: Romans 12:6–8, 1 Corinthians 12:8– 10; 28–30, Peter 4:9–11, and Ephesians 4:11. They are Leadership, Administration, Knowledge, Teaching, Exhortation, Faith, Wisdom, Prophecy, Discernment, Shepherding, Evangelism, Faith, Serving, Pastoring, Apostleship, Hospitality, Mercy, and Interpretation of Tongues. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:28, ESV). Spiritual Gifts After completing the "Discover Your Spiritual Gifts" survey, the spiritual gifts I appear to be the strongest in are Knowledge, Administration, Teaching, Leadership, and Faith. Knowledge The spiritual gift of knowledge means having the understanding of the things of in our life and in the world that are founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. From this point of view we have essentially four classes, the almost ritualistic prayer songs or pure Spirituals, the freer and more unrestrained evangelical "shouts" or camp–meeting songs, the folk ballads so overlaid with the tradition of the Spirituals proper that their distinctive type quality has almost been unnoticed until lately, and the work and labor songs of strictly significant character. Indeed, in the pure Spirituals one can trace the broken fragments of an evangelical folk liturgy, with confession, exhortation, "mourning," conversion and "love–feast" rejoicing as the general stages of a Protestant folk–mass. It is not a question of religious content or allusion, for the great majority of the Negro songs have this more delicate question of caliber of feeling and type of folk use. The distinctiveness of the Spirituals after all and their finest meaning resides in their musical elements. The characteristic beauty of the folk song is harmonic, in distinction to the more purely rhythmic stress in the secular music of the Negro, which is the basis of "ragtime" and "jazz"; while regarding the one as the African component in them, and the other as the modifying influence of the religious hymn. The gifts were not only materialistic such as possessions and prosperity but through festivities and events such as rituals and dances. These type of gifts resemble peace, respect, and honor. • 47. The Holy Spirit Is The Giver Of Spiritual Gifts The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, and is equal in essence and in power in the Trinity to the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit was originally sent by Jesus after his ascension into heaven, Jesus himself saying that he would send a "helper" after he departed from the earth. This spirit is worshipped just as the Father and the Son are, and also participated in the creation of the world, sustaining and giving life continually to all things, and exhibits the uniqueness and characteristics of the third person in the Trinity. This is the same Holy Spirit that divinely inspired the infallible word of God, and although the canon is now closed, the Holy Spirit still works powerfully and constantly in the life of the church and in believers. The Holy Spirit is the giver of spiritual gifts, which are given at conversion and help the believer become more like their creator. The presence of the Holy Spirit is evident in the life of all true believers, and this Spirit turns cowardly men into mighty warriors for Christ who accomplish actions way beyond their natural ability. The Holy Spirit also brings conviction to the believer about sin, which brings Christians to repentance and right standing in the eyes of God. Even when I chose to turn my back on the Lord I found that I still had moments where the Holy Spirit would tug on my heart and make me rethink my actions in a Christ–like view. In order to fulfill Gods great commission we must have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. "When Jesus sent his disciples out, he promised them power" (The Greatness of The Great Commission , p. 09). Without this power we do not have the ability or the correction and guidance needed to evangelize into the corruptions of the world. For we are not capable of leading people to the Lord alone. These two parties dispute the present validity of the spiritual gifts that Zondervan Illustrated Bible Dictionary succinctly listed: "the ability to speak an unlearned tongue (1 Cor. 14:1–33), the interpretation of tongues (12:30; 13:27–28), power to drive out evil spirits (Matt. 8:16; Acts 13:7–12), special ability in healing the sick (1 Cor. 12:9), prophecy (Rom. 12:6), and special wisdom and knowledge (1 Cor. 12:8)." Although these parties may agree on the present availability of the practice of certain gifts, continuationists believe that all of these gifts are available for any Christian to use. However, as Elmer Towns wrote, according to cessationists, "The miraculous sign gifts were present in the first century to confirm apostolic revelation, but are no longer to be expected today." Towns argument began by stating that these gifts were to be a sign to the Jews. According to him, gifts were necessary for the Jews to cease Temple worship and animal sacrifice. Sadly, nowhere in the Bible is this idea explicitly stated. Unwaveringly, Towns referenced 1 Corinthians 1:22: "As the church entered an age of ministry primarily geared at Gentiles, signs became less important, "For the Jews require a sign and the Greeks seek after wisdom" (1 Cor. 1:22)." In verse 23, Paul continued to write, "but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness." It appears that Paul had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. The Charismatic Gifts Debate : A Research Proposal LIBERTY UNIVERSITY THE CHARISMATIC GIFTS DEBATE A RESEARCH PAPER SUBMITTED TO DR. MARSHALL WICKS IN COMPLETION OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THEO350 B02 BY BARBARA TODD SCHOOL'S LOCATION: LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA FEBRUARY 15, 2015 Introduction The charismatic gifts debate is an important topic today developed over time in three phases. The first phase began with the Pentecostalism in the first century. The second phase began in the 1960s with the charismatic movement. The third phase began in the 1980s in the Western world. Charismatic gifts are wisdom, knowledge, faith, gift of healing, performance of miracles, prophecy, ability to differentiate spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. These gifts are stated in 1 Corinthians 12:8–10. Christians believe that the Holy Spirit is working in each of us and gives us gifts to do the ministry that God has called us to. "But evangelical Christians are divided on the issue of whether charismatic gifts are for today and should be practiced today." There are two sides to this debate. On one side is the continuationist view and on the other side is the cessationist view. The question being asked is "Were these gifts intended by God to be used throughout the entire church age until the Lord returns?" The continuationists asserts that these gifts are meant for Christians today along with all the other gifts in the New Testament and will continue to the end of the age. The ... • 55. Blankets In First Nation Connotations Throughout the centuries, the gift of a blanket has been associated with feelings of warmth, respect and kindness from those giving a blanket towards those receiving it. Our article below covers just a few of the aspects that come to mind when we give a blanket as a gift or even when we dream about blankets in a dream or see one in a vision of sorts. Blankets In First Nation Connotations Depending on the particular first nation identity, such as Dakota, or even down to specific tribes within a first nation, the blanket may mean something different from one national identity to another. Moreover, they may be given during different times for various reasons. For instance, a respected Teton Sioux elder may choose to wrap a wool blanket around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, the spirit of the father transfers to the younger who then passes it on to perhaps a misunderstood child later on in life. Essentially, with the mere laying on of a blanket on their shoulders or on their backs, an adoption process takes place; moreover, the family and tribe grows with subsequent members who then become part of the community. Blanket–Giving In Other Cultures Once again, depending on the culture in which blankets are given, blankets become talismans and take on a spiritual dimension especially when worn in some dance ritual. Blankets can symbolize transitions in life such as weddings, graduations or new additions to a family. They can also mean legendary events, stories and the culture's heritage. As such, they express a form of craftsmanship, artistry, history and the represented culture itself. Blankets can even facilitate travel by transferring the spirits of those who gave them as companions on a distance journey. In some South African and Lesotho cultures, blankets mark rites of passage. In certain parts of China, blankets are among the most cherished gifts that are commonly given. For the Australian and New Zealand Aboriginals, they believe that the giving of blankets initiates a stream of good dreams and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Spiritual Gifts Analysis I was truly looking forward to this assignment. The assessment shows that my top spiritual gifts are: Mercy–Showing, Shepherding, and Administration. I can see how accurate this assessment is by looking at the results. God has given me a compassionate heart, which compassion leads to mercy. I can't explain the fact that no matter what, I will always have mercy on others. I ask God, how could I feel mercy towards someone who scarred me for life, and He reminded me that was Him through me. By God showing mercy on me, he taught me how to have mercy on others. "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" (Matthew 5:7, New International Bible). My second top gift is Shepherding, and I see this every day in me. I remember that the church push away a sheep and the sheep got lost. I say that because this sheep committed adultery, and instead of the church having mercy the church judges him. My husband and I left everything behind and went after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do have to say that I don't enjoy Administration but God knew that I needed it because it contributes a lot to my ministry. By keeping my time organized I'm able to have time for everything, which it pleases God. I believe my strengths will impact my ministry by bringing back many lost sheep. There's too many sheep and not enough shepherds. They are too many people lost and not many people willing to go after them. There are people who left the church because they fall and they need someone to lift them up, hug them and tell them "God loves you and He is waiting for you." There are people out there who haven't forgiven themselves and they need to be shown mercy. They need to be reminded that God has already forgiven them and that they are loved and wanted. I then build a rapport and get them to trust me. I use my gifts in building trust in the first (8) minutes. I have many experiences witnessing, but souls winning to Christ in my opinion are a hit or miss. Everyone is different in personality style and temperament. When they reject (The Word of God) they don't reject you...it is Christ they reject. In my viewpoint, the more exposure and experience an ambassador has, the better they will become at soul winning. Soul winning is something I look at as a spiritual gift from God. The individual ambassador builds on his/her gifts. My aim is to be "great at my job as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 61. African American Culture n the African American Culture, we are often copied in many different ways. From our hairstyles, dances, art, lifestyle, clothing , etc. The African–American culture hardly receives credit for what we do. Celebrities like the Kardashian's for example, they've used our ( the African–American culture) hairstyles and acted as if it was their creation by giving them new names. So, now everyone outside of the African–American culture tries it and acts like They've never seen it. We've been wearing braids and cornrows since forever! Living in the African–American culture we are very misunderstood. Many take the way that some of us talk or look as aggressive when we really are nice and very respectable. We were taught to always respect our elders and to also treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO. Many also take our slang and automatically thinks that we're uneducated. We are some very intelligent people actually they we talk shouldn't put us in such a category. We go to school like everyone else and earn diplomas and degrees. Another thing about growing up in the African–American culture is that many of us were very religious. They sung old negro spirituals that until this day are still being used to help us get through tough times. We have always had faith that's how we've accomplished so much. One thing I can say is that African– American culture has changed inn many ways with slavery being one of them. Our ancestors were slaves and fought so that we can be free and we are. African–American culture was more religious based but those times have changed within some families of our culture with this new era. We were always taught how to survive even in the worst conditions. If it's one thing that we know how to do it's how to survive. The African–American culture is treated bad on a daily basis but, we don't let it stop us. Whenever we fall, we get right back up but stronger and better this time. The Black Power movement is very important to us. Know that Black Power is real and we will reign. Our leadership skills are amazing. We were taught to use our creativity to achieve and to never give up. Growing up in the African–American culture, is pretty exciting I would say. We love soul food Sundays with ... • 65. Discipleship Research Paper Introduction Making disciples is the all–encompassing purpose of the church. Many churches do a tremendous amount of work toward the goal of making disciples, but sometimes it is in an unhealthy manner. Just as a healthy person is going to have the most positive productivity in life, a healthy church will also have the most constructive output of discipleship. In this paper, I will explain how a healthy church is the goal for discipleship. In addition, I will examine my personal church context and identify the top three areas that I need to focus on to create a healthier body of Christ. Finally, I will discuss some initials steps that can be made to improve its spiritual health. The Goal The apostle Paul refers to the church as the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 says, "For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ." The church is one body and all who are baptized are "one in Christ." Just as a body can and should be healthy, a church body can and should be healthy as well. Putman et al. says that a healthy church looks and acts like a healthy body. While studying to be a registered nurse years ago, I had the opportunity to dive deep into study of the systems of the body. The body is tremendously complex and each system works with one another to make the body function as a whole. If one part of the body is suffering, many times it negatively impacts other parts of the body. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spiritual Gifts also benefits the individual Christian by working within themselves while being utilized by the Holy Spirit. Spiritual Gifts in the Early Church The first evidence of the Holy Spirit giving gifts can be seen in Acts. "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance." [Act 2:4 NASB]. The power and presence of the Holy Spirit can be seen here in a new way that has not been presented before in history. The Holy Spirit has descended upon humans and given them abilities that they were capable of on their own but empowered to do so. In the time immediately after Pentecost Spiritual Gifts was one of the ways that a true Apostle could be identified. This was a way for the common man to determine if God approved of the person claiming to be an Apostle. In the early Church the Holy Spirit was known to work in the lives of believers, but hardly anything was written about it. In the late second century early Church fathers began working out a Doctrine of the Holy Spirit. Their initial focus was mainly on the relationship to the Father and the ... • 69. A Biblical Study of Spiritual Gift of Tongues Essay Continuists argue that the spiritual gift of tongues still continue today. To understand this fully, we need to remind ourselves of the primary purpose of the spiritual gifts and the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues. Donald W. Burdick refutes the argument of the cessationists using I Corinthians 13:8. According to him, "we must notice, however, that this verse does not say that tongues were to cease at the end of the apostolic age." However, he also concluded that healings, tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, and other gifts which may have been objectively miraculous in nature fade not due to the sagging spiritual life of the church as claimed by the Pentecostals, but because they have fulfilled their purpose. Argument 3: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There, the people are willingly giving their lives away for the Gospel – enduring beatings and hardships, imprisonments and poverty. The Church in these places is more like the Church in Smyrna [Rev 2:8], where believers suffered and died for the faith. It is surely unjust to class them with the Laodicean church. What is true that during every age, the Seven Churches provide examples and warnings to the Body of Christ as types of faithfulness and failure. Conclusion Spiritual gift of tongue is surely an interesting topic. A thorough study of this topic must be explored by the church to understand fully its biblical meaning, purpose, characteristics, regulations, and life. Each believer of the church must understand this doctrine so that they will be armed in battle or spiritual warfare. This gift was given to the church by the God through the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the birth of the church, to validate the apostles as the messengers of God, with God's message. It is also verified by various sources cited above that the glossolalia, or the tongue speaking meant by Paul in his epistles were literal language known to man, a foreign language that may not be known to the speaker that's why an interpreter who has the gift of interpretation has to be present each time it happens to interpret the utterances, thus, this is not a result of ecstatic utterance or in a trance. • 71. Ephesians : Christ : The Gifts Of The Spiritual Authority It is heaven alone that makes and breaks a vessel for divine service. No man can enter into a spiritual service without being called of God. In Ephesians 4:11, Paul lists the fivefold ministry gifts given to the church. "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers."These ministries are a direct result of the Lord's resurrection and ascension unto the right hand of the Father. The "right hand" represents authority; therefore, the ministry gifts constitute God's delegated authority upon the earth. Spiritual authority is God appointed. Regardless of a man's natural abilities, religious zeal, holy ambitions, or good intentions one has to be chosen solely by God. If not selected first by God, then ordained by men, one is simply false. Much confusion could be eliminated within the Body if this was taught. The prophet is one selected from amid the people to be God's spokesperson. Frequently, our calling is pre–determined before birth, but this is not across the board. Moses spoke of the prophetical ministry of Jesus some fifteen hundred years prior to His birth. "I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that shall command him" (Deuteronomy 18:18). David, also a prophet of God, wrote, "By thee have I been held up from the womb; thou art he who took me out of my mother; my praise shall be continually of thee. I am as a wonder unto many but thou art my strong defense" (Psalms 71:6– 8). God announced to the timid Jeremiah, "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations" (Jeremiah 1:5). Samson was also called and ordained prior to conception. The apostle Paul received a revelation concerning his calling. Though he was a ruthless persecutor of the church of Jesus Christ, God had separated him from his mother's womb at birth and called him to be an apostle to the Gentiles (Galatians 1:15–16). Those who fully understand this fact will set aside every weight and be about their Father's business. Our purpose for existing is to fulfill God's will upon the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Holy Gift : The Spiritual Gifts Of The Holy Spirit "GIFT–GIVING" GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT INTRODUCTION The Holy Spirit, the third person of God, is the dynamic agent that both leads us toward Christ and transforms us through and in him. Upon a believer's conversion and regeneration , the Holy Spirit continues to work; the Spirit dwells actively in Christians doing many facets of work like empowering, illumining, teaching, reproving, interceding, sanctifying, and bestowing gifts . Often the overlooked work of the Holy Spirit, the spiritual gifts he entrusts to believers are important for the growth of both the believer and Christ's bride, the church. God's desire is for us to be informed about the gifts his Spirit gives (1 Corinthians 12:1), and it is our obligation and should be our desire to understand the giving of, the exercise of and the purpose in spiritual gifts. This paper endeavors to present a synopsis of this subject. GIFTS DEFINED Spiritual gifts should loosely be defined as "God–given" abilities supplied by the Holy Spirit as prescribed and purposed by the Father (Acts 2:38). 1 Corinthians 12:7 assures believers: "But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit [the spiritual illumination and the enabling of the Holy Spirit] for the common good", and James 1:17 encourages Christians: "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above;". Christians therefore have been bestowed with special, supernatural, God–ordained and Holy Spirit supplied abilities (gifts) at their conversion that are intended to be used for the work of the Lord in producing fruit (John 5:16). Identifying a believer's God–given gifts is subsequent for their continued growth and effectiveness in Christ. GIFTS IDENTIFIED Key passages that identify spiritual gifts are Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. The following list is likely not exhaustive, but is representative of many gifts the Holy Spirit has revealed in the Word. Romans 12 speaks about exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy, prophecy, service, and teaching. 1 Corinthians addresses administration, apostleship, discernment, faith, healing, helping, knowledge, miracles, prophecy, teaching, tongues, interpretation, and wisdom. • 77. The Spiritual Gift Of Apostles And Prophets Introduction The Word of God instructs Christians that "the body of Christ" is "built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone" (Eph. 2:20). Nevertheless, the debate is still on going if the office of the apostles and prophets ceased during the "Apostolic Age" or if it has continued on to the present day. This research paper will offer the Charismatic Movement opinion that advocates the interpretation of modern day apostles and prophets. A history of Charismatic theology will be provided. A survey of modern–day apostles and prophets will be examined. An assessment of these viewpoints will be explained and the conclusion will close out the research paper. How to uncover your spiritual gift is an important start for every believer to further the body of Christ. Every spiritual gift is a reflection of God's nature that is within every believer, and understanding these gifts is imperative. The spiritual gift of apostle and prophet was the first and most important gift given after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Over the last 1,800 years the government of the church, mostly the legal structure of Roman Catholic Church and Protestant Churches has had little to say about apostles and prophets. However, in more recent times apostles and prophets have been reemerging and taking their place in leadership within the church. • 79. Use Of Language And Concepts Depicted Throughout The... Expression is imperative to the human condition and is the primary reason why music has managed to subside throughout the centuries in various forms. For many, music extends beyond rhythm and beat, and is a means of communicating one's experiences and narrating those experiences to their comprehension of the world. For African Americans, music was a symbol of cultural identity and a way to translate the daily oppressions they were forced to endure. Insight and evidence into this is depicted widely throughout the Spirituals and the Blues, where the hardships of slavery and troubles associated with being African American are greatly expressed. While African American music has evolved and new genres have sprung into existence, differences in the ways that they communicate and express themselves have arisen. However, some aspects have remained similar and language usage has demonstrated a correlation between the two. The songs "Soon I Will Be Done" and "Trouble in Mind" demonstrate how use of language and concepts depicted within the Blues emits evidence to its emergence from the spirituals. In the spiritual "Soon I Will Be Done", the writer discusses how the sufferings and difficulties that they are momentarily facing will transcend into a distant memory due to the hope that is near. This hope is evidently God as the writer clearly states "Soon I will be done with the troubles of the world. Going home to live with God". Throughout the Spiritual, the writer's circumstances are ...
