Ronald Reagan Ethos Pathos Logos
It is January 28th, 1986, seven members of the Challenger Space Shuttle take off for an exploration
of a lifetime, but never return. The entire United States is watching this tragedy unfold. Later that
evening Ronald Reagan, the president, gets on national television to deliver the State of the Union
Address. Instead, he gives the "Speech on the Challenger Disaster." President Reagan uses tone,
rhetorical appeals, and rhetorical tools, to commend and mourn the seven with the Nation. President
Reagan is sympathetic and passionate when condoling and grieving with people of the United
States. The tone of president Reagan is somber and optimistic, and his purpose is to promote NASA
and commemorate the astronauts in order to calm the audience ... Show more content on

Reagan uses parallel structure to create a lasting impression, " But we've never lost an astronaut in
flight; we've never had a tragedy like this" (Reagan 2) He uses parallel structure as a source for
repetition, except that the first word is repeated for effect, not full sentences. "They had a hunger to
explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of
us" (Reagan 3). He achieved his purpose by the use of rhetorical tools with the use of parallel
structure. Reagan uses the rhetorical tools to emphasize. He lists each astronaut to mourn their
deaths with the public, "We mourn seven heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik,
Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe" (Reagan 2). Listing each
name signifies how important it is that the nation knows who gave their life for this exploration.
Reagan also uses words with positive connotation to put the audience on his side and to make the
words he is speaking feel warm and inviting "I've always had great faith in and respect for our space
program, and what happened today does nothing to diminish it. We don't hide our space program"
(Reagan 6). President Reagan uses rhetorical tools to accomplish his purpose of hope to the
American people and to commemorate the seven astronauts who gave their lives on

Who Is Guy Montag's Transformation In Fahrenheit 451
Think about a world in which the government of a society has outlawed many books to the point
they burn the ones that threaten the society and arrest their possessors. At the beginning of the book,
you see that Guy is very pleased with what he does for a living. Then a young girl asks him things
that make him wonder if what he does is really the right thing, or could the information in books
hold the key to fix the problems of his society. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury chronicles
considerable characteristics throughout the transformation of Guy Montag. For ten years, Guy
Montag had a job of burning books that the government had outlawed and arresting their possessors.
This job made him very proud and made him feel as though he was doing the right thing and was
important to his society. "It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things blackened
and changed" (Bradbury 1). He was one of the best Firemen of his time; because he never thought
twice about what he had to do, he just did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His transformation really starts to bloom after he loses the one person who was starting to make
sense of all the questions he wanted to ask. "And, then, Clarisse was gone. He didn't know what
there was about the afternoon, but it was not seeing her somewhere in the world." Guy begins to
think about what Clarisse had asked him and told him about before she was gone. "From this
moment on, Montag begins a metamorphosis. Montag after suggests a plan for revolution" (Luker
2). He begins to become more and more suspicious of what the books he burns really hold inside of
them. "Faber verifies Montags notion that books are good" (Luker 2). He gets to the point where he
starts to look at some of the books before he burns them. "During the next book–burning raid on an
old woman's home, Montag secretly takes a book from her house before it was burned" (Dietz

Burning In Antarctica
Scientists reported that burning all of the Earth's fossil fuels would initiate enough warming to melt
the Antarctic ice shelf submerging coastal regions worldwide. New York City and Washington DC
would be of the first to go under as sea levels rise.
Antarctica is not like a melting ice cube
An international team of scientists led by Ken Caldeira, a researcher at Stanford College's Carnegie
Institute of Science and Ricarda Winkelmann, a professor of climate systems analysis at Potsdam
Institute For Climate Impact Research used an up–to–date model of an ice sheet to make forecast the
impact that fossil fuel burning would have on the Earth in upcoming centuries. Analysis showed that
burning the world's supply of coal, oil, and gas would emit enough carbon dioxide into the
atmosphere to melt the Antarctic ice sheet and possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They project that the total rise would be 200 feet once the sheet has fully melted. If you consider
that Hurricane Katrina's highest storm surge was 27.8 feet, these statistics are frightening to hear.
London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and other coastal cities would be obliterated. This would also have
catastrophic effects on the surrounding ecosystems.
The study noted that while Antarctica has already begun to melt, the ice sheet's future mass balance
is unknown due to a combination of factors: future emissions of greenhouse gases; atmospheric
warming; and oceanic warming that results from atmospheric warming.
Climate policy makers have determined a 2 degree Celsius increase as a target for global warming.
According to scientists if we stay within this target, sea levels will rise only a few meters, which
would be manageable.
Reducing the World's Carbon Footprint
"Our findings show that if we do not want to melt Antarctica, we can't keep taking fossil fuel carbon
out of the ground and just dumping it into the atmosphere as CO2 like we've been doing," Caldeira

Ralph And Jack In Lord Of The Flies
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the protagonist, Ralph, and the antagonist, Jack,
are ever so disparate. Protagonist and antagonist titles are used interchangeably. Ralph and Jack are
predominantly contrary in their governing styles. These two are characterized also by their
leadership roles, their morals, and their ways of regulation in their new found "society". Ralph
became leader when he was inevitably elected to be chief over the children. The vote was chosen
after the children recognized Ralph as "Him with the shell" (Golding 29). From that moment, he was
the "... chief with the trumpet–thing" (Golding 29), the trumpet–thing being the conch that was
blown to attract any other children that were alive after the plane ... Show more content on

Since Ralph follows a democratic approach to things, he values rules and organized societies. Jack
values power due to his dictatorial views and has begun to be consumed with hunting. Since Jack
was used to being in control of a group of people, any rules that were set were supposed to be his,
and he wouldn't follow anyone else's. For example, when Ralph gets upset at Jack over breaking
"the rules, you're breaking the rules... [they] are the only thing we've got" (Golding 129), Jack shows
us that he doesn't have any sentiment towards Ralph's power by saying "Ballocks to the rules! We're
strong – we hunt" (Golding 130). This also relates back to Jack's thirsty for power and superiority
over everyone and especially Ralph. Going back to the beginning of the novel, Jack believes he
should be chief because he is "chapter chorister and head boy" (Golding 28) ; this shows his sense of
decorum from the society he was raised in. However, that sense is replaced by savagery as he
constantly searches for the next kill. Ralph stayed consistent in his morality throughout the majority
of the novel and even references his past social structure about how they will have " 'hands up' like
in school... I'll give him the conch... he can hold it when he's speaking... and he won't be interrupted"
(Golding 44). This practically says that you shouldn't speak unless spoken to or that it is impolite to
speak over other people, just to make sure everyone has a fair chance to speak. Theoretically, they
should have the same morals, but that didn't seem to be the case and they both went different ways
to the extent of behavior, instincts, and

What Causes An Alternate Ending To A Soulless House
I hear the creak of a door being swung, the only signal of a hunt begun. The sound of your heart
beats off the walls, echoing through these still and empty halls. You cannot escape, you cannot run.
You know it well inside your head– when the clock strikes midnight, you'll already be dead. I chase
you through this soulless house, engaged in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Just when you think
you've gotten away, I show you that we've only just begun our play. You think I've given you room
to breathe, but we both know you'll never leave. I love the way your eyes alight, how you think the
end is in sight. I love the way you fall to the ground, how you lose all hope when I turn you around.
Deeper, deeper, deeper we go, far within and further below. Every step you take through every room
just brings you ever closer to your impending doom. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You're well and truly trapped here now, with nowhere to go but further down. Your fear becomes
animalistic, your desperation sadistic. With not a trace of hope in your eyes, with nothing waiting
but your demise, you slowly succumb to my maddening cries. You put that blade to proper use, no
longer submissive to my abuse. You fight, you claw, you scream and bleed, casting aside all you
believed. Your soulless heart burns just like mine, and now I know it's almost time. We reach the
bottom after time unknown, no being here but the two of us alone. There is nothing human in your
empty gaze; only pain and fury in a blood–red haze. Every swing cuts away your soul, and with
every cut you lose control. You'll strike me down, as is your intent, but I can die being full content.
After all... When it comes to dying, what way could be better, than leaving behind a worthy
successor...? When this beast dies, none will mourn, but from its blood a new terror is

Essay on The Training and Job Information on Carpenters
Introduction
Ever wonder who had built your home? Carpenters did. They build many different kinds of things,
from door frames to houses. You have to complete high school, and then get some training in order
to become one. The carpenters in Alaska get a higher pay than those in the lower 48, which is nice.
Carpenters do many types of things, like cutting lumber and installing insulation. Being a carpenter
is very important because they build the homes of Americans.
Training and Education
In order to become a carpenter, you have to finish school. The minimum requirement is a high
school diploma. After that, you can get an apprenticeship. An apprenticeship is when you work on–

Carpenters have many tasks, and it is important that they carry them out.
Skills Many different types of skills are required to be a carpenter. In order to be a successful
worker, they have to have good math problems. Most of the time, workers have to cut and shape
materials to fit in perfectly, which requires math. Another important part is that they have to make
them quick. If a person is slow, then everybody else can be waiting for them. That would slow the
process down, and they may get laid off to get more training. Manual dexterity is a very significant
part of carpentry. People have to have good eye–hand coordination. If someone is too clumsy, they
can possibly injure someone. They have to be able to handle high–powered tools and machines.
Another thing a person needs is good stamina. Most of the time, workers have to lift heavy
equipment and materials. Being strong will keep one from getting an injury. Having good problem
solving–skills is important too. Sometimes, plans change. They will need to figure out how to solve
problems, and modify building plans. A big thing that carpenters need to know about is raw
materials and the costs and delivery of them. Knowing these can make big difference in expenses
when working on a project. One thing carpenters are always working with: tools. There are many
different types of tools. In order to be a carpenter is that you need to know about the different types

The Story Of The Seagull And The Cat By Luis Sepúlveda
Luis Sepúlveda wrote a story about the seagull and the cat which had human personality. This story
was a tale about love, friendship, commitment and honor – "we've learnt to appreciate and respect
and love someone who's different from us" This story had three main characters. The mother seagull
Kangah who has been stuck the oil in her feathers when she found food. Kangah has impressed me
by three sentences before she died. These three sentences showed the love of the mother and she
could forget her life to take the life for her child:

"Promise me that you will look after it until the chick is born,"

She realized that she had just made the last flight in her life, maternal instinct arose strongly, more
than ever, she entrusted her egg to an unfamiliar cat with three suggestions "Promise me you won't

are also the desire of the mother seagull which kept her child in safe. Assuming without it, nobody
knew what would happen to her egg, maybe it would become an egg omelet for the cats in the port
of Hamburg, and it meant the story has been ended. The hope for children's safe was the dream of all
the fathers and mothers in this world. But not only that, the third suggestion was really deep, the
mother seagull wanted her child would live the life of real seagull – flew in the sky "And promise
me that you will teach it to fly,"
The story of seagull's mother closed when her egg rolled out from her body and the other love begun
throughout the story. After the death of Kengah, just as promised, for the honor of a cat in the port,
Zorba must take care of the egg and protect her to the day she could fly in the sky. Day by day, the
little seagull grew up, and then one day, Zorba has fulfilled his promise to seagull's mother Kangah

Challenger Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Well known president, Ronald Reagan, in his address to the nation, "Explosion of the Space Shuttle
Challenger," expresses grief for the explosion of the Challenger. Reagan's purpose is to
commemorate the seven men and women, who lost their lives and offer hope to those who will
continue to explore space. He creates a sad, yet hopeful tone in order to convey to America, we all
mourn the loss of the Challenger Seven, but our space program will continue. Reagan begins his
address to the nation by stating he postponed his State of the Union address to pay tribute to the
Challenger Seven. He also appeals to the audiences pathos by stating he and his wife, Nancy, are
"pained to the core" by this horrific tragedy. By stating this he appeals to the audience's sorrowful
emotions. He also declares "today is a day for mourning and remembering" and "this is truly a
national tragedy," which delves deeper into the audience's sorrowful emotions. He, then, joins the
nation in mourning this loss, to further unify the nation, and meekly admits that "we share this pain

He justifies the importance of the space program by stating, "It's hard to dazzle us. But for the past
25 years the United States space program has been doing just that." The space program is justified
by that statement because it shows the space program has helped the U.S. learn so much more about,
not only the world we live in, but the universe we live in. He goes onto state "we've only just
begun." This also justifies the space program by showing, if we've already learned this much
already, there's no limit to what we can learn. He then establishes logos by calling the Challenger
Seven "pioneers" and space is still a frontier waiting to be explored. This also shows the crew knew
the risk, and their sacrifice is still important, and we should commemorate them by continuing space

28 Days Later Anthropology
When looking at Danny Boyles 28 Days Later, the notion of zombies and socialization is more
prevalent than what we've seen in the previous films. In the years since Romero first established the
trope of the zombie invasion narrative, the cannibalistic walking dead have endured surprisingly few
alterations; however, recent developments in the subgenre have begun to present more personality,
subjectivity, and even humanity. This film has a whole new outlook because these aren't your typical
"zombies". I think it is easier for viewers to be more subjective towards these zombies because they
look like normal people, minus the fact their eyes turn red. They aren't exactly drenched in blood
with body parts hanging off them because they aren't eating ... Show more content on

This is the initial cue of the dystopic setting and it only heightens when Jim goes to his parents'
house to find that they have both committed suicide. After meeting Selena he quickly learns that the
murder of the infected living turns out to be a crucial method of mercy homicide. In previous films
those infected by the zombie virus have a short amount of time to say their farewells, comparable to
a fatally ill patient. However, in 28 Days later those infected have to be killed immediately and
usually viciously since the virus takes 20 seconds for the rage to kick in. The protagonists no longer
have options because the only priority is to survive. For instance, Selena did not hesitate when she
rapidly chopped off the wounded limb of a fellow survivor and then proceeded to slaughter him with
a machete when he is bitten by a zombie. Young Hannah doesn't get to say any last words to her
infected father before the military carelessly execute him. It only gets worse from here when we are
introduced to the so called "military" who have completely disregarded their civil duties and have a
more disturbing plan to rebuild society. The characters assumed they could trust the military's radio
message claiming they had the "answer to infection," when really these men are more like monsters
focused only on hegemonic control. Notice how the men treat the woman like an "other" as if they're
different or for that matter not even human. 28 Days later did outstanding at the box office and most
definitely targeted the millennial generation in the way it remarked on contemporary

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan's Speech On The...
On January 28th, 1986, Ronald Reagan used his stature as president to show sympathy for the
country in the light of tragedy, in his speech entitled "Speech on the Challenger Disaster." His main
point expounds on the importance of the Challenger Disaster in the history of space exploration. He
supports this claim by first explaining the effect the disaster had on the public, then offering his
sympathy for the families of the astronauts as well as the entire nation, and finally declaring that the
country must continue to explore space so the deaths of the astronauts were not in vain. Through
Reagan's use of rhetorical appeals, tone, and rhetorical tools he effectively persuades the American
people to maintain confidence in NASA and in space exploration, ... Show more content on

Reagan carefully chose his words during his speech on the Challenger Disaster, using specific
pronouns completely changed the way the country received the message. It was initiated when he
said, "we've never lost an astronaut in flight; we've never had a tragedy like this" (5). Later he also
stated: "We've grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we've only just begun"
(7). Reagan's use of "we" throughout the speech shows the nation that even high figures such as
celebrities and political figure, in which Reagan represented both, also feel as the common people
do in times of struggle and devastation. Allowing the citizens of America a shoulder to cry on for a
dark and challenging time in the history of the country. Towards the end of the text Reagan started to
create allusions for the American people to compare the fallen astronauts to. Such as when Reagan
stated: "the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime
the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later said, "He lived by the sea, died on it, and
was buried in it"" (10). Also he makes reference to the religious figures at the end when he says,
""slipped the surly bongs of earth" to "touch the face of God"" (11). Using these allusions, Reagan
was able to effectively convince the audience that the astronauts died for a reason and a cause, to
expand our knowledge of space and explore what it could possibly contain. In the case that Reagan
had not given this speech it could be possible that many people around the world would want to
back off from exploring space because it could kill people that attempt to travel into it. But Reagan's
speech was able to revoke confidence in NASA and other space programs, letting moms let their
kids become astronauts and not saying no because of how dangerous it could be.

Military Moving Process
My father has been in the military for the past 30 years, this means that my family and I are used to
moving. Usually the moving process goes very fast: my dad will receive a posting message and
within the next four months we'll be in a new home. It can be intense, as my house would be up for
sale, my parents would leave to go buy a new house, and I'd have to break the news to my friends
that I'd be gone within a few months, but I've always enjoyed moving despite the intensity and the
stress it might bring. Due to the fact that the longest I've lived in one place was for four years, I
began to expect a new posting after just a few years in a new place. While it goes fast and can be
stressful, I appreciate the moving process because it's interesting to see my life packed up and

move has taken a lot longer, as my dad doesn't officially have the job yet, but we found out recently
that we'll be moving near the middle of May. It's unfortunate that it has taken so long, but it does
make the moving process a little easier. This time, we have more time for our house to sell and for
my parents to go on a house–hunting trip. Also, because we've known we'd be moving since last
year, it's given me plenty of time to tell my friends and talk to my counsellor about switching
schools. We've already begun this moving process, as our house has been for sale for a few months
and my parents recently bought a house in Ontario, and it's already less stressful and less

Another thing we need to consider is the complication of the physical part of our bodies. Being in a
completely different environment with a change in gravity and external forces can have detrimental
effects on the human body. Supposedly, one of the first physical effects astronauts experience in
space travel is bone and muscle deterioration. And I can tell you, it's one hell of a change. Only a
month in, and I can already feel and see the difference in my body. Because the lack of gravity in
my surroundings decreases load bearing exercise, (the complete opposite of what our bodies are
normally used to), bones and muscles weaken, leading to my muscle atrophy. Similarly, just like our
muscles, our bones are progressively weakening, comparable to osteoporosis. Cruz needs to be most
careful out of all of us for this matter, since women in general have weaker bones than men. Not
only that, but women are more susceptible to osteoporosis, so she has to take extra precaution.
Overall, Lenny, Cruz and I are becoming more aware of the effects space travel has on our bodies.
We can see how our arms, and legs are getting skinnier as time goes by. But going into this mission,
we came prepared. We've determined we need to take extra supplements and vitamins to try and
maintain our bodies composure, replenish our lack of nutrients, and ensure healthy body function. In
addition to that, we've also been doing small exercises to train and stimulate our muscles to help
regain muscle

Self Reflection Paper
I am about ten years old in elementary school. The foundations that will dictate the rest of our
educational career are embedded here. We're all beginning to become self aware, realising we are
separate entities from the others around us, although we haven't quite understood what that means.
We have also begun to wonder what our private parts are meant for and why they come in two
different sets. We're told about these "changes" that we'll undergo in the next years, how our bodies
will change and how we'll come to resemble our mothers and fathers. In a class of 30 you can pick
out four of the girls whose bodies have already begun to morph into something entirely different.
I'm not among them, but I wonder about what I'll turn into when my body starts changing. I am thin
and tall with very long hair, but I don't feel very pretty and I've convinced myself that I am not
human because if I was then I would like the other girls in my class. The adults around me tell me
I'll grow into myself which isn't a concept ten–year–old me can fathom and so the adults probably
just feel sorry for little ugly me.
I'm incredibly quiet and hard to notice because I hide in corners and shadows often. My teachers
mark me absent most days and I can never bring myself to speak up and let them hear that I am, in
fact, present. My anxiety is no different with my classmates, I dread greetings and introducing

Inside Out And Back Again Analysis
It can be highly argued that the novel Inside Out and Back Again, by Thanhha Lai, very critically
comments on society. It is a fictional novel based off of the author's personal experiences. A young
girl, named Hà, is growing up in the war–stricken Vietnam. The Vietnam War took her father, her
friends, and her normal life. She is torn away from her home and brought to new beginnings in
America. She goes through many stressful situations that form her new life. Her only wish is to be
back home, no matter what it may be like.
The novel communicates the struggles of having to go through a war. What it is like to be ripped
away from the only place you have ever known. How the world is much different than what you
perceived it to be. Then, to be going through the hardships as a young girl on an unforgiving Earth.
The author wrote of Vietnam and how, "People can barely afford food" (pg. 15). The war was
breaking their country down to it's bone and people were starting to flee. Eventually, her own family
decided to leave, even though she begged to stay. When they got to the place that gives sponsors, her
mother had to beg a man to take the entire family. The author clearly wrote that, "Mother doesn't

judgemental, more crude, more discriminative. Through the worse, we've also gotten better. Only

but he also changed society. Jackie completely changed the way Americans thought. Jackie used
many values to break the color barrier, and here is how I used some of his values to break my own
barrier. Basketball season has finally begun in my little town, which is a big deal for us. We started
the season out hot with a winning streak of 11–0 for the junior high girls. We've dominated almost
every team by 20 points or more, but the next game coming up was a big one. We played Norfork, a

We got changed in the locker room, listening to music that would get our adrenaline pumping. The
game started with a tip–off with us getting the ball and scoring on the first play, but so did the other
team. The game was very close. We would score, they would score. No one ever got ahead by more
than four points. At the end of the second quarter with ten seconds left, it was their ball and we were
down by two. They did a nice play and a girl got a wide open three pointer. Then the buzzer went off
and we all looked at our fuming coach and knew what was about to come at half time. You know
that scene in the movie, "42" about Jackie Robinson, where the other teams coach is yelling at him
saying rude things? And then there's the heartbreakingly beautiful scene where Jackie goes into the
dugout and breaks his bat and screams and cries. That's what our halftime was like. The coach
yelling and us wanting to scream and cry, but still we had determination to win this game. We came
back out ready to play and immediately tied it back it up. The game kept going back and forth, until
the fourth quarter with a minute left and us up by four. The other teams coach called a timeout and
our coach gave us a speech about if we wanted to win, we needed teamwork. Teamwork just like
Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers. We came back out and held the game at four points

Finding A Cure For The Cure
After hearing their replies to my tale, I was filled with both relief and fear, what if they had decided
to kill me after I created the cure, this way there would be no other way for us to devise and antidote
or recreate this horrid hell once again. Yet, as a moment of what was most likely madness I decided
to agree with them and I decided that I would help to try and create a cure for this virus. "Alright
good," Colonel said, smiling. "So first off, what are you going to need?" I began to list of some of
what I was going to need I order to create the cure. What I needed was a microscope, blood sample,
some test tubes and some chemicals which I could only find at my old office which meant that we
were going to have to find a way to get back into the laboratory which stood in the middle of
downtown. "Great," I groaned; as I realized that I could have to fight throw even more of those
things. "We might have a bit of a problem with that you guys, first off do you have any more
weapons?" They led the two of us through the school towards the back of the football field, where
they had a camouflage green army truck parked in the center. The opened the back of the truck and
took out a small case of rifles and shotguns. Taking one each, Felicia and I smiled glad that this
would wind up being over very soon. Or at least that was how it currently seemed however the road
was still full of those things and it was going to be very difficult for us to gather the necessary
supplies. We

All Quiet On The Western Front Suffering Analysis
Comparing and contrasting 3 different genres portraying the same theme
In this essay three different genres will be compared and contrasted to distinguish how they may
portray the same theme of suffering. The three genres consist of a painting by Pablo Picasso
Guernica, the novel by Erich Remarque All Quiet on the Western Front and a poem by Emily
Dickinson There is a pain– so utter. All these genres will be conveyed to the theme of suffering.
Therefore, I will use these three genres to explain how they portray the same theme by comparing
and contrasting them.
Firstly, the painting by Pablo Picasso, Guernica, named after the city that was bombed by Nazi
planes, painted in 1937 depicts the tragedies of war, horrors of the war and the result ... Show more

"We're no longer young men. We've lost any desire to conquer the world. We are refugees. We are
fleeing from ourselves. From our lives. We were eighteen years old, and we had just begun to love
the world and to love being in it; but we had to shoot at it. The first shell to land went straight for
our hearts. We've been cut off from real action, from getting on, from progress. We don't believe in
those things anymore; we believe in the war." (Remarque, 1930:42). By this quote one can conclude
how war had a serious impact on the human psyche and how the young men suffered being there.
They suffered in various ways such as emotional, psychological, mental and physical (hunger). This
indicates how brutal war was and that no one could get themselves ready for the suffering they had
to endure being in that situation at that time. This suffering does not only occur on the battlefield
and stay there, but it goes with them everywhere– it is in their minds and also part of them. Thirdly,
the poem by Emily Dickinson There is a pain– so utter– reveals how pain causes suffering to the
human body and mind. "Her poems suggest a complex view of the relation of suffering to human
action and meaning." (Scheurich, 2007:189). She writes in a manner that the reader can understand
what traumatic events she herself had been through and how she manages to release it by writing

These three sentences showed the love of the mother and she
could forget her life to take the life for her child:

mother seagull wanted her child would live the life of real seagull – flew in the sky "And promise

The story of seagull's mother closed when her egg rolled out from her body and the other love begun

How To Write An Essay On Spectrum
From 1965 to 1968 Karen, her brother Richard, and his college friend Wes Jacobs, a bassist and tuba
player, formed The Richard Carpenter Trio. The band played jazz at numerous nightclubs and also
appeared on the TV talent show Your All–American College Show. Karen, Richard and other
musicians, including Gary Sims and John Bettis, also performed as an ensemble known as
Spectrum. Spectrum focused on a harmonious and vocal sound, and recorded many demo tapes in
the garage studio of friend and bassist Joe Osborn. Many of those tapes were rejected by record
companies. According to former Carpenters member John Bettis, those rejections "took their toll."

Why Do We Need To Be Remembered Essay
As humans our brains hold unimaginable amounts of information, yet sometimes we forget things of
importance. The forgotten information can be about anything, birthdays, anniversaries, special
occasions, and so much more, but what I believe is most important is our history. Not just American
or European history, but all world history. This means from the very beginnings of Mesopotamia to
the Black Death in Europe to the rise of communism in China to the recent presidential race of 2016
in America. The history of humanity from the very beginning to the end is often forgotten that
should be remembered. As Karl Marx once said "History repeats itself, first a tragedy, second a
farce." History tends to repeat itself if it's neglected, yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These glories could be the great pyramids of Giza, the aqueducts of Greece, the library of
Alexandria, the gothic cathedrals of Europe, the Eiffel Tower, and so many others. The glories are
endless and magnificent so why wouldn't we want a repeat of such glorious glories? Yes these so
called glories are magnificent why not have something from this modern day and age to remember
forever as it withstands the test of time. With all our advancements we should have structures, art,
and literature that lasts twice as long as the pyramids ever do. Problem is humans today forgot what
made these things magnificent to stand the test of time. Since we've forgotten what made these
marvelous things work we have created nothing remarkable, spectacular, astounding that can
withstand no more than twenty years without replacement. If we recall these glorious things and
how they were made humans should be able to make buildings last a lifetime with no repairs.
Remembering what was great about our history can lead to bettering mankind for years beyond the
norm now. Therefore without knowledge of our past we are doomed to repeat, so the tragedy of the
final solution during world war 2 may one day peer its ugly face again. Other tragedies are destined
to rise again if history is neglected. But when history is remembered the tragedies of our past will
never resurface leaving only a memory of what happens when humans have an egotistical view that

Well, this is it, the day all of us have been waiting for has finally arrived. It seems like only
yesterday we were picking our noses and flicking them at innocent bystanders or yelling childish

What I'm trying to say is the years, have flown by and it's not going to be long before we're in the
stands watching our kids graduate.
You know, there is a lot more to graduating than leaving Rufus and getting a diploma. It's more than
that. I mean, why do you think we get to wear these cool robes?

have just barely begun the trip on the roller coaster of life and already it seems like we've had quite a

undecided. But whichever path we take, it won't be easy and believe me, a year or two from now
you're gonna wish you were back at good old LHS because the term "9 to 5" is going to take on a
whole new meaning, and I'll tell you right now it ain't gonna be pretty folks.
Our graduation is our coming of age, our right of passage. As we walk across this stage we are
writing the closing pages to our Chapter I and heading into the great unknown. It's kinda scary ––
but hey, don't you cry, even though high school is over, the times we've shared and the friends we've
made will never be lost. The clock is ticking, time is fleeting and nobody lives forever. But true
friendship is something we can count on never dying. I hope wherever we go in life it will be happy
and even if we all move to remote island countries we can all count on the memories and laugh at all
the stupid things we did.
So to the class of 06', I'd like to say thanks for the memories and good luck. You're gonna need it.

World Wars And The Great Depression
I'm amazed at how many Americans don't know their own family heritage any further back than
their grandparents. For many years, I was one of them. I would casually tell people, "My family
never really talked much about our family tree, because we were afraid we'd find horse thieves
hanging from the branches." But, bad or good, I always wondered about my roots.
I'm not alone. Millions of Americans have the same questions.
So, what happened? Were so many of our families separated in the westward expansion that we lost
our connections to the past? Were families in such crisis during the World Wars or the Great
Depression that mere survival was their only focus? Was there a generation that just wanted to forget
the past? Was it the "live for today" mentality of the '60s that deemed it "old fashioned" to have any
roots or history? It was probably a combination of many factors, but the affect of the loss of our
personal histories has been far–reaching.
Without fail, when someone discovers the stories in their own family tree, they become empowered
and inspired. I know this from personal experience, because eight years ago, someone helped me
discover my lost family legacies, and it changed me forever. I found stories of great sacrifice,
courage, conviction, service, struggle, conflict, diversity and triumph. Some of my ancestors lived in
a cave for the first few years and purchased land rights from the Native Americans who helped them

Pros And Cons Of The Soda Ban
Who doesn't love a nice glass of soda with dinner or just to cool down after a long day at work. Is
soda bad for you? Well obviously it's not good for your health. People have tried to abolish soda
production with the soda ban which only includes regular soda not diet or other artificial drinks so
what's the point?
The soda ban is a bad idea because it excludes other sugary drinks that cause obesity and diabetes as
often as soda. Diet soda can still cause diabetes even if it doesn't have calories. Dr. Andrew Weil

consume, the fatter we get."

D. Central Idea: To be as healthy as we can be, we need to be informed about what certain things,
specifically tea, can do to help improve our bodies overall health.
E. We will learn the different kinds of teas and the many health benefits that come with drinking
them such as their anticancer properties, prevention of diabetes, and they even help protect your
teeth.
Transition to 1st main point: First, let's talk about the anticancer properties that are found in certain
teas. ll. Body
A. To talk about the heath benefits that tea provides you first need to know what kinds of teas there
are, because they all help our bodies in different ways.
1. In the article "Types of Teas and Their Health Benefits" from WebMD" it is noted that although
there are many brews of tea, purist really only deem green tea. Black tea, white tea, and oolong tea
as authentic.
2. These all come from a shrub indigenous in China and Canada, called the camellia silences plant.
According to WebMD they hold special antioxidants called flavonoids.
3. ECGC is the most potent of flavonoids, and it helps fight against free radicals. Which is an atom
and when their paired with unpaired valance electrons it makes the free radical extremely
radioactive towards other things in the body which can lead to cancer. Green teas antioxidants
interfere with the development of colorectal cancers, the antioxidants found in Chamomile tea also
stunt the growth of cancer cells. White tea has the more dominant anticancer properties.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Challenger Explosion
Ronald Reagan's acknowledgment to the disaster was sincere and powerful because he successfully
used pathos which appeal to the emotions, logos which appeal to logic, and ethos which appeal to
the credibility of the speaker. In our textbook, the authors stated that there are three different ways
the writers can appeal or grab their audience's attention (Lunsford, Ruszkiewicz, and Walters 26).
Those three appeals are known as logos, pathos, and ethos. When reacting to a tragedy like
Challenger Explosion, it is the duty of the sitting president to help the country heal. With the
countries emotions at the forefront, Reagan's speech was written to appeal to our emotions. When
we talk about appealing to emotions; another word that we can use is pathos. Which is usually
apparent when the United States suffers a disaster. Yet, the nation is already upset and senses a great
deal of emotions. Unfortunately, when dealing with a situation at this caliber, pathos is the toughest
to grasp. Because rather than bringing up sadness – you are trying to control those emotions. ...

Carpentry Has Had A Great Impact On The Construction Industry
Carpenters are the second largest group with more than 1.3 million carpenters in the workforce in
the United States. (Carpenters 481). Carpentry has had a great impact on the construction industry,
such as using hand and power tools to cut, shape, and combine wood, metal, and plastics. Carpentry
is the technique of working various different types of woods, metals, and plastics, shaping those
products into works art. A carpenter constructs and repairs building frameworks and structures.
Carpenters make stairways, door frames, partitions, and rafters out of wood and other materials,
including metals and metal products, concrete, plastics, and fiberglass. Some carpenters specialize in
installing kitchen cabinets, siding, and drywall. Although carpentry has many branches such as
residential, commercial, and industrial carpenters, the most common types include: rough carpentry
and finish carpentry. ("Carpenters" pg. 84) Rough carpentry is constructing and installing of
temporary structures and supporting structures. Carpenters use blueprints, sketches, and oral
instruction from the home owner to build the structures. They build and produce frames, rafters,
floor joists, subflooring, wall sheathing, prefabricated wall panels along with prefabricated
windows, and many other components. Rough carpenters also build parts of buildings that are

Evolution Of R & B
Argument As a general principle, music has been in a never–ending evolutionary state, in which
each genre evolves with changes and grows to remain relevant. Just like we've seen in class, music
will either change its forms, change its styles, change its themes, or it will evolve into a new form of
music. With this in mind, I will use this critical lens to evaluate modern rhythm and blues music.
While has gone through gone through changes before, and most likely will continue to evolve, I will
be looking at the musical change from the 1990s until modern–day rhythm and blues. In the 1990s,
R&B contained within it a strong connection to its origins. By this I mean that R&B music of the
90s had a strong presence of its jazz and blues inspirations that brought about its start. It ... Show

As the popularity of Hip–Hop and Pop music became more and more popular, it slowly caused the
genre of R&B to take on more and more influences from pop and hip–hop in order to remain
relevant in the listeners' ears. The result of this absorption of influences, which most likely occurred
in the 2000s, it gradually lost it long standing connection to jazz and blues. In losing this connection,
I believe that R&B lost its soul and its emotional depth to gain a boarder range of subject matter,
and to also gain a broader range of artists willing to produce its music. This occurrence brought
about a new form of R&B that is more producible to a broader range of audience, including listeners
of different: race, ethnicity, age, and musical preference. This brought about the sub–genre of Hip–
Hop/R&B from the previous popular sub–genre of R&B/Soul.
Differences As I have said before the differences that were created between late 20th century R&B
and 21st century R&B are great in number. The first differentiation you'll see between the two eras
is the change in the voice of the music.

Family Grieving : Effects Of Family Communication
Grieving: Effects of Family Communication Grieving had become a lifestyle, I sat around my home
for quite some time by myself, crying, agonizing and suffering. I reluctantly waited for the phone to
ring, wondering if I'd ever hear from my siblings or their children again. My family had gone
through an extreme and unthinkable tragedy and needed to communicate, but this didn't happen. We
were all so wrapped up in our agonizing pain that we forgot to check on one another. Our previously
happy family had been shattered, extremely damaged and seemingly irreversible with no evidence
of healing any time soon. We were broken, even worse, for the first time, we were divided. Before
the tragedy, the Moore family children were very close, due to the absence of our parent, we were
all raised together in the big house by Grand–Daddy and loved every minute of it. He taught us to
always stay together and never forget family. We listened and happily raised our kids, worshiped, ate
meals, worked, relaxed and celebrated together, this was our way of life until July 5, 1996. After that
day, there were no more Sunday dinners, Friday fish fry's, Wednesday spaghetti nights, just no more
of anything that we had become accustom to as a way of life. It was like our worlds had just shut
down, we were too traumatized to function and unable to get past the agonizing heartache we were
all experiencing. Everything we knew of our world had changed, suddenly ended and we didn't

Presidential Debates
Television and the purpose of it has changed in a negative way throughout the years. At the
beginning, we took advantage of being able to be a part of the presidential elections and acquire the
facts about what truly mattered during the debates. Lately we've started to look at what the screen is
showing us rather than concentrating on what it was actually telling us. We as people have begun to
want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and television has helped feed this
desire for the worst. Technology has been changing progressively from the start. Everything about it
ranging from the speed, the design, the size has been replaced with a modernized and immaculate
version. Computers, phones, and televisions all started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way they make this possible is to groom and primp their image. Theodore White "thought
that Kennedy benefited because his image on television was "crisp"; Nixon's–– light–colored suit,

the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure
that he was up to par with his looks. Another way they make their appearance look better in
comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their opponent's character. This
technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year's
presidential debates. A prime example of this is when Donald Trump once said, "Unstable Hillary
Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country –– and I believe
that so strongly," he then later continued with, " She's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've
seen, you've seen it a couple times. The people in the background know it, the people who know her
know it and she's like an unbalanced person." In this claim he has completely left the topic of what
truly matters and has started to stray away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of
this is a battle of image over image. Louis Menand wrote, "Our national politics has become a
competition for images or between images, rather than between ideals (Source C)." This statement
just backs up the idea that we've started to focus on looks rather than

Persuasive Essay On Equality
With the multiple bombings, shootings, and vehicles running over innocent civilians, it would be
quite ignorant to believe that equality has, indeed, gotten better. It is true that society as a whole has
begun to transition towards equality, but financial, racial, sexual, gender, and religious inequality is
still very much a key component of what makes America ironically "free". One example would be
America's current president, Donald Trump. Although, while he may be the ringleader and speaker
for the narrow–minded, he has yet to greatly impact the course of the U.S. as a whole. In fact, the
United States was already on the path to destruction a long time ago. What may have caused it?
Well, in my personal opinion, the very stubbornness that has allowed us to fight and prosper as a
nation is going to be the very demise of our country. We are not ready for change. We are set in our
ways, and even the most influential of leaders will have only the most minor of impacts on the
population.
The combination of unwillingness to admit to any fault, the lies that are fed to the population, and
the blindness of men who choose not to see has led the entirety of the country to become askew, and
dangerously so. As the rising generation, myself and my peers must play our parts in reversing
whatever we can, and salvaging whatever remains after our imminent destruction. Equality has
changed, but not for the better. It's just more advanced, more modern; but, when stripped to its core,
it's essentially the same. It's a matter of whips vs. guns, of Non–Caucasians raising their voices
without a speaker to transmit them to the world. When juxtaposed against the original Civil Rights
issues, those in the past had a plethora of willing and educated colored leaders that wished to
peacefully stand up for their rights, while the whites resisted and were unwilling to change.
Nowadays, African–Americans have become more risque and dynamic, taking risks when there's no
need to. The Caucasians, on the other hand, have begun to look down on them and have trained their
minds to believe that, due to what they've learned in the biased media that panders to what they wish
to hear, those of colored races should be imploring

Life Is Filled With Many Decisions. Most Daily Decisions
Life is filled with many decisions. Most daily decisions don't matter too much. However, some carry
more weight, like flipping a coin. Sink or swim, jump or die. Moments where your life is hanging in
the balance based on a split second decision. Before my first split second decision, I enjoyed little
things like the smell of rain. At fifteen, my motivation for having fun could have easily taken my
life.
One beautiful, sunny spring day in Draper City, my friends and I decided that to slough our school
assembly. Assemblies were so terribly boring anyway, I am sure we would have fallen asleep trying
to sit through it. Instead, Jon, Riley, and I decided to hop in our friend Kathy's car and drive up
Corner Canyon. The spring flowers had just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I reached my hand up to touch my face. Blood was dripping from a large open hole on my forehead
just below my hairline. My head was so swollen and filled with debris, it felt like there was an
Easter egg on my forehead. I was pretty banged up, but still too in shock to notice. I had to find my
friends.
Just then, I heard a voice calling my name, "Travis, you're bleeding! We've gotta get outta here!"
John exclaimed.
I was still in shock; the pain had not hit me yet. I looked around and made eye contact with Riley.
He looked scared by was laughing at the same time. "Where the hell is the car? We've gotta find
Kathy, I jumped and thought she'd jump too," said Riley.
John and Riley ran down the hill to see where the car was. To our amazement, they found it wedged
at the base of the only tree on the edge of a thirty–foot drop off! Kathy was shaken up, but alive. She
had simply laid across the front seats of the her car. The four of us decided to walk down to John's
house, some three miles down the mountain. Back then there were no cell phones, and we were in
the middle of nowhere. As we walked on the side of the road, the many passing motorists gave us
some very strange looks. I am sure they were wondering what had happened to a bunch of beat up
looking teenage kids with dirt, sand, blood, and torn up clothes. After a few hours I was finally able
to get a ride home. It took a while for my neighbors to

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Challenger 7
Rhetorical Analysis Essay In President Ronald Reagan's speech, he addresses the situation that
occurred between the space shuttle and the Challenger 7 crew at the State of Union. He helped the
American public who were sad, confused and shocked about what was going on. The speech was
meant to try and make people feel better and to strictly state that the space program will continue at
NASA. The Challenger 7 were heroes and they did brilliant work at NASA due to their bravery and
courage. In his speech, he used the tone of anguished, proud and uplifting in order to help comfort
people to have faith in the American space program after this tragedy.
President Reagan uses testimonial appeal in order to communicate and help change the mood of
American citizens and to reassure them that regardless of the tragedy that occurred , NASA will
continue to explore in space. For example he says, "I've always had great faith in and respect for our
space program, We don't hide our space program. We don't keep secrets and cover things up. We do
it all up front and in public...– We'll continue our quest in space" (para.5). Also, for instance he
states " The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we'll continue to follow them"
(para.4).This supports the idea that even though NASA hit a rough patch , this is a part of expanding
their horizons so they will continue doing their jobs which is enduring space exploration. This
proves that besides the fact that 7 crew members died doing their jobs and being courageous, the
journey should not stop and the company should continue moving forward and doing what they do
best. Reagan is able to effectively communicate feelings of devoted and enjoyment by using loaded
language because as mentioned , NASA will not stop space exploring due to this one accident. And
it worked because now it would cause people to support NASA. Reagan is able to effectively
communicate feelings of hope and faith because he is trying to make the citizens see that there is a
bright side to the situation which is that even though their family and friends died in the shuttle, they
are not alone. And even though the accident was tragic, that was actually a motivation for the
company to continue

The Black Lives Matter Movement: Argumentative Analysis
Following the events of the tragic deaths of Michael Brown and several others, the Black Lives
Matter movement has begun. I support this movement whole–heartedly without a doubt. Death is
never an easy thing to copy with, whether it's from a criminal or an innocent bystander.
The fact that several children and adults are being targeted and losing their lives unjustly based on
their skin color is absolutely outrageous and ridiculous. Racial profiling is the discriminatory
practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the
individuals race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. African American in America are targeted for
their race and many lose their lives over this false justice. We've seen many African Americans lose
their life to racial profiling such as Travon Martin, Tamir Rice, and John Crawford, etc. ... Show

There is police brutality going on in not just American but all over the world. In 1991, Rodney King
and his companions were unarmed and brutally beat by police officers. In 2014, Michael Brown was
also unarmed and shot 12 times by a police officer. Also in 2014, Eric Gardner was put in a choke
hold for 15 seconds by police officers. They showed no remorse, as Gardner repeated 11 times that
he couldn't breathe while they held him down. The fact that there are some who actually applaud the
police and think them as heroes as they repeatedly trample upon humans and their rights and treat
their lives as game in truly sickening. Those police officers are clearly arrogant monsters who
believe that they can do whatever they want as long as they have the law on their side as a
justification for their heinous

Essay On The Story
The Case "Today feels like it will be a good one..." Rain begun to whisper under her breath. Shortly
after class started, a new kid walked into the room. " Hello, I'm Jack. Nice to meet you." "Ah, you
must be the new kid we got today. Nice to meet you. Jack, right? I will add you to my attendance
list." He sat between Rain and Kelly. He began giggling to himself about how it usually rains every
day from where he came from and the girl next to him was named Rain. "Where ya from twerp?!"
Francis said from the back. ¨Ooh well, I used to live in England. The sky was always gray 'round

have happened; Ivan, a russian exchange student found dead all the way in russia, lilith she had
attended the high/middle school for two years, Abraham Hasnet he loved to work on the fields at his
house, poor poor children...) Five people in ten weeks. Albur appears from nowhere "Hi, i'm Albur

we haven't gotten any closer to solving this." "I know that Jack" she states. "Hey look over here, this

" I agree Rain, bugger this is not getting any where." "Mhm, fresh meat than yes?" Rain asked Jack.

Ronald Reagan Ethos Pathos Logos.pdfRonald Reagan Ethos Pathos Logos

  • 1. Ronald Reagan Ethos Pathos Logos It is January 28th, 1986, seven members of the Challenger Space Shuttle take off for an exploration of a lifetime, but never return. The entire United States is watching this tragedy unfold. Later that evening Ronald Reagan, the president, gets on national television to deliver the State of the Union Address. Instead, he gives the "Speech on the Challenger Disaster." President Reagan uses tone, rhetorical appeals, and rhetorical tools, to commend and mourn the seven with the Nation. President Reagan is sympathetic and passionate when condoling and grieving with people of the United States. The tone of president Reagan is somber and optimistic, and his purpose is to promote NASA and commemorate the astronauts in order to calm the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reagan uses parallel structure to create a lasting impression, " But we've never lost an astronaut in flight; we've never had a tragedy like this" (Reagan 2) He uses parallel structure as a source for repetition, except that the first word is repeated for effect, not full sentences. "They had a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us" (Reagan 3). He achieved his purpose by the use of rhetorical tools with the use of parallel structure. Reagan uses the rhetorical tools to emphasize. He lists each astronaut to mourn their deaths with the public, "We mourn seven heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe" (Reagan 2). Listing each name signifies how important it is that the nation knows who gave their life for this exploration. Reagan also uses words with positive connotation to put the audience on his side and to make the words he is speaking feel warm and inviting "I've always had great faith in and respect for our space program, and what happened today does nothing to diminish it. We don't hide our space program" (Reagan 6). • 3. Who Is Guy Montag's Transformation In Fahrenheit 451 Think about a world in which the government of a society has outlawed many books to the point they burn the ones that threaten the society and arrest their possessors. At the beginning of the book, you see that Guy is very pleased with what he does for a living. Then a young girl asks him things that make him wonder if what he does is really the right thing, or could the information in books hold the key to fix the problems of his society. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury chronicles considerable characteristics throughout the transformation of Guy Montag. For ten years, Guy Montag had a job of burning books that the government had outlawed and arresting their possessors. This job made him very proud and made him feel as though he was doing the right thing and was important to his society. "It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things blackened and changed" (Bradbury 1). He was one of the best Firemen of his time; because he never thought twice about what he had to do, he just did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His transformation really starts to bloom after he loses the one person who was starting to make sense of all the questions he wanted to ask. "And, then, Clarisse was gone. He didn't know what there was about the afternoon, but it was not seeing her somewhere in the world." Guy begins to think about what Clarisse had asked him and told him about before she was gone. "From this moment on, Montag begins a metamorphosis. Montag after suggests a plan for revolution" (Luker 2). He begins to become more and more suspicious of what the books he burns really hold inside of them. "Faber verifies Montags notion that books are good" (Luker 2). He gets to the point where he starts to look at some of the books before he burns them. "During the next book–burning raid on an old woman's home, Montag secretly takes a book from her house before it was burned" (Dietz ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Burning In Antarctica Scientists reported that burning all of the Earth's fossil fuels would initiate enough warming to melt the Antarctic ice shelf submerging coastal regions worldwide. New York City and Washington DC would be of the first to go under as sea levels rise. Antarctica is not like a melting ice cube An international team of scientists led by Ken Caldeira, a researcher at Stanford College's Carnegie Institute of Science and Ricarda Winkelmann, a professor of climate systems analysis at Potsdam Institute For Climate Impact Research used an up–to–date model of an ice sheet to make forecast the impact that fossil fuel burning would have on the Earth in upcoming centuries. Analysis showed that burning the world's supply of coal, oil, and gas would emit enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to melt the Antarctic ice sheet and possibly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They project that the total rise would be 200 feet once the sheet has fully melted. If you consider that Hurricane Katrina's highest storm surge was 27.8 feet, these statistics are frightening to hear. London, Paris, New York, Tokyo and other coastal cities would be obliterated. This would also have catastrophic effects on the surrounding ecosystems. The study noted that while Antarctica has already begun to melt, the ice sheet's future mass balance is unknown due to a combination of factors: future emissions of greenhouse gases; atmospheric warming; and oceanic warming that results from atmospheric warming. Climate policy makers have determined a 2 degree Celsius increase as a target for global warming. According to scientists if we stay within this target, sea levels will rise only a few meters, which would be manageable. • 7. Ralph And Jack In Lord Of The Flies In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the protagonist, Ralph, and the antagonist, Jack, are ever so disparate. Protagonist and antagonist titles are used interchangeably. Ralph and Jack are predominantly contrary in their governing styles. These two are characterized also by their leadership roles, their morals, and their ways of regulation in their new found "society". Ralph became leader when he was inevitably elected to be chief over the children. The vote was chosen after the children recognized Ralph as "Him with the shell" (Golding 29). From that moment, he was the "... chief with the trumpet–thing" (Golding 29), the trumpet–thing being the conch that was blown to attract any other children that were alive after the plane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Ralph follows a democratic approach to things, he values rules and organized societies. Jack values power due to his dictatorial views and has begun to be consumed with hunting. Since Jack was used to being in control of a group of people, any rules that were set were supposed to be his, and he wouldn't follow anyone else's. For example, when Ralph gets upset at Jack over breaking "the rules, you're breaking the rules... [they] are the only thing we've got" (Golding 129), Jack shows us that he doesn't have any sentiment towards Ralph's power by saying "Ballocks to the rules! We're strong – we hunt" (Golding 130). This also relates back to Jack's thirsty for power and superiority over everyone and especially Ralph. Going back to the beginning of the novel, Jack believes he should be chief because he is "chapter chorister and head boy" (Golding 28) ; this shows his sense of decorum from the society he was raised in. However, that sense is replaced by savagery as he constantly searches for the next kill. Ralph stayed consistent in his morality throughout the majority of the novel and even references his past social structure about how they will have " 'hands up' like in school... I'll give him the conch... he can hold it when he's speaking... and he won't be interrupted" (Golding 44). This practically says that you shouldn't speak unless spoken to or that it is impolite to speak over other people, just to make sure everyone has a fair chance to speak. Theoretically, they should have the same morals, but that didn't seem to be the case and they both went different ways to the extent of behavior, instincts, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The sound of your heart beats off the walls, echoing through these still and empty halls. You cannot escape, you cannot run. You know it well inside your head– when the clock strikes midnight, you'll already be dead. I chase you through this soulless house, engaged in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Just when you think you've gotten away, I show you that we've only just begun our play. You think I've given you room to breathe, but we both know you'll never leave. I love the way your eyes alight, how you think the end is in sight. I love the way you fall to the ground, how you lose all hope when I turn you around. You fight, you claw, you scream and bleed, casting aside all you believed. Your soulless heart burns just like mine, and now I know it's almost time. We reach the bottom after time unknown, no being here but the two of us alone. There is nothing human in your empty gaze; only pain and fury in a blood–red haze. Challenger Rhetorical Analysis Essay Well known president, Ronald Reagan, in his address to the nation, "Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger," expresses grief for the explosion of the Challenger. Reagan's purpose is to commemorate the seven men and women, who lost their lives and offer hope to those who will continue to explore space. He creates a sad, yet hopeful tone in order to convey to America, we all mourn the loss of the Challenger Seven, but our space program will continue. Reagan begins his address to the nation by stating he postponed his State of the Union address to pay tribute to the Challenger Seven. He also appeals to the audiences pathos by stating he and his wife, Nancy, are "pained to the core" by this horrific tragedy. By stating this he appeals to the audience's sorrowful emotions. He also declares "today is a day for mourning and remembering" and "this is truly a national tragedy," which delves deeper into the audience's sorrowful emotions. In the years since Romero first established the trope of the zombie invasion narrative, the cannibalistic walking dead have endured surprisingly few alterations; however, recent developments in the subgenre have begun to present more personality, subjectivity, and even humanity. This film has a whole new outlook because these aren't your typical "zombies". On January 28th, 1986, Ronald Reagan used his stature as president to show sympathy for the country in the light of tragedy, in his speech entitled "Speech on the Challenger Disaster." His main point expounds on the importance of the Challenger Disaster in the history of space exploration. He supports this claim by first explaining the effect the disaster had on the public, then offering his sympathy for the families of the astronauts as well as the entire nation, and finally declaring that the country must continue to explore space so the deaths of the astronauts were not in vain. Through Reagan's use of rhetorical appeals, tone, and rhetorical tools he effectively persuades the American people to maintain confidence in NASA and in space exploration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reagan carefully chose his words during his speech on the Challenger Disaster, using specific pronouns completely changed the way the country received the message. It was initiated when he said, "we've never lost an astronaut in flight; we've never had a tragedy like this" (5). Later he also stated: "We've grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we've only just begun" (7). Reagan's use of "we" throughout the speech shows the nation that even high figures such as celebrities and political figure, in which Reagan represented both, also feel as the common people do in times of struggle and devastation. Allowing the citizens of America a shoulder to cry on for a dark and challenging time in the history of the country. Towards the end of the text Reagan started to create allusions for the American people to compare the fallen astronauts to. Such as when Reagan stated: "the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later said, "He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it"" (10). Also he makes reference to the religious figures at the end when he says, ""slipped the surly bongs of earth" to "touch the face of God"" (11). Using these allusions, Reagan was able to effectively convince the audience that the astronauts died for a reason and a cause, to expand our knowledge of space and explore what it could possibly contain. In the case that Reagan had not given this speech it could be possible that many people around the world would want to back off from exploring space because it could kill people that attempt to travel into it. But Reagan's speech was able to revoke confidence in NASA and other space programs, letting moms let their kids become astronauts and not saying no because of how dangerous it could be. ... • 29. Inside Out And Back Again Analysis It can be highly argued that the novel Inside Out and Back Again, by Thanhha Lai, very critically comments on society. It is a fictional novel based off of the author's personal experiences. A young girl, named Hà, is growing up in the war–stricken Vietnam. The Vietnam War took her father, her friends, and her normal life. She is torn away from her home and brought to new beginnings in America. She goes through many stressful situations that form her new life. Her only wish is to be back home, no matter what it may be like. The novel communicates the struggles of having to go through a war. All these genres will be conveyed to the theme of suffering. Therefore, I will use these three genres to explain how they portray the same theme by comparing and contrasting them. We were eighteen years old, and we had just begun to love the world and to love being in it; but we had to shoot at it. The first shell to land went straight for our hearts. We've been cut off from real action, from getting on, from progress. We don't believe in those things anymore; we believe in the war." (Remarque, 1930:42). By this quote one can conclude how war had a serious impact on the human psyche and how the young men suffered being there. They suffered in various ways such as emotional, psychological, mental and physical (hunger). This indicates how brutal war was and that no one could get themselves ready for the suffering they had to endure being in that situation at that time. This suffering does not only occur on the battlefield and stay there, but it goes with them everywhere– it is in their minds and also part of them. Thirdly, the poem by Emily Dickinson There is a pain– so utter– reveals how pain causes suffering to the human body and mind. "Her poems suggest a complex view of the relation of suffering to human action and meaning." (Scheurich, 2007:189). This story was a tale about love, friendship, commitment and honor – "we've learnt to appreciate and respect and love someone who's different from us" This story had three main characters. The mother seagull Kangah who has been stuck the oil in her feathers when she found food. Kangah has impressed me by three sentences before she died. These three sentences showed the love of the mother and she could forget her life to take the life for her child: "Promise me you won't eat the egg," "Promise me that you will look after it until the chick is born," "And promise me that you will teach it to fly," "A fat black cat which enjoys the warm sunlight" which name ... She realized that she had just made the last flight in her life, maternal instinct arose strongly, more than ever, she entrusted her egg to an unfamiliar cat with three suggestions "Promise me you won't eat the egg,", "Promise me that you will look after it until the chick is born,", Two first suggestions are also the desire of the mother seagull which kept her child in safe. Assuming without it, nobody knew what would happen to her egg, maybe it would become an egg omelet for the cats in the port of Hamburg, and it meant the story has been ended. The hope for children's safe was the dream of all the fathers and mothers in this world. But not only that, the third suggestion was really deep, the mother seagull wanted her child would live the life of real seagull – flew in the sky "And promise me that you will teach it to fly," The story of seagull's mother closed when her egg rolled out from her body and the other love begun throughout the story. After the death of Kengah, just as promised, for the honor of a cat in the port, Zorba must take care of the egg and protect her to the day she could fly in the sky. The band played jazz at numerous nightclubs and also appeared on the TV talent show Your All–American College Show. Karen, Richard and other musicians, including Gary Sims and John Bettis, also performed as an ensemble known as Spectrum. Spectrum focused on a harmonious and vocal sound, and recorded many demo tapes in the garage studio of friend and bassist Joe Osborn. Many of those tapes were rejected by record companies. According to former Carpenters member John Bettis, those rejections "took their toll." • 43. Why Do We Need To Be Remembered Essay As humans our brains hold unimaginable amounts of information, yet sometimes we forget things of importance. The forgotten information can be about anything, birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions, and so much more, but what I believe is most important is our history. Not just American or European history, but all world history. This means from the very beginnings of Mesopotamia to the Black Death in Europe to the rise of communism in China to the recent presidential race of 2016 in America. The history of humanity from the very beginning to the end is often forgotten that should be remembered. As Karl Marx once said "History repeats itself, first a tragedy, second a farce." History tends to repeat itself if it's neglected, yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These glories could be the great pyramids of Giza, the aqueducts of Greece, the library of Alexandria, the gothic cathedrals of Europe, the Eiffel Tower, and so many others. The glories are endless and magnificent so why wouldn't we want a repeat of such glorious glories? Yes these so called glories are magnificent why not have something from this modern day and age to remember forever as it withstands the test of time. With all our advancements we should have structures, art, and literature that lasts twice as long as the pyramids ever do. Problem is humans today forgot what made these things magnificent to stand the test of time. Since we've forgotten what made these marvelous things work we have created nothing remarkable, spectacular, astounding that can withstand no more than twenty years without replacement. If we recall these glorious things and how they were made humans should be able to make buildings last a lifetime with no repairs. Remembering what was great about our history can lead to bettering mankind for years beyond the norm now. Therefore without knowledge of our past we are doomed to repeat, so the tragedy of the final solution during world war 2 may one day peer its ugly face again. Other tragedies are destined to rise again if history is neglected. But when history is remembered the tragedies of our past will never resurface leaving only a memory of what happens when humans have an egotistical view that goes a little too ... It seems like only yesterday we were picking our noses and flicking them at innocent bystanders or yelling childish phrases like, "Liar, liar, pants on fire!" or, wait, that was yesterday. Never mind. Anyways. What I'm trying to say is the years, have flown by and it's not going to be long before we're in the stands watching our kids graduate. I would casually tell people, "My family never really talked much about our family tree, because we were afraid we'd find horse thieves hanging from the branches." But, bad or good, I always wondered about my roots. I'm not alone. Millions of Americans have the same questions. So, what happened? Were so many of our families separated in the westward expansion that we lost our connections to the past? Were families in such crisis during the World Wars or the Great Depression that mere survival was their only focus? Was there a generation that just wanted to forget the past? Was it the "live for today" mentality of the '60s that deemed it "old fashioned" to have any roots or history? It was probably a combination of many factors, but the affect of the loss of our personal histories has been far–reaching. Without fail, when someone discovers the stories in their own family tree, they become empowered and inspired. I know this from personal experience, because eight years ago, someone helped me discover my lost family legacies, and it changed me forever. • 57. Rhetorical Analysis Of Challenger Explosion Ronald Reagan's acknowledgment to the disaster was sincere and powerful because he successfully used pathos which appeal to the emotions, logos which appeal to logic, and ethos which appeal to the credibility of the speaker. In our textbook, the authors stated that there are three different ways the writers can appeal or grab their audience's attention (Lunsford, Ruszkiewicz, and Walters 26). Those three appeals are known as logos, pathos, and ethos. When reacting to a tragedy like Challenger Explosion, it is the duty of the sitting president to help the country heal. With the countries emotions at the forefront, Reagan's speech was written to appeal to our emotions. When we talk about appealing to emotions; another word that we can use is pathos. Which is usually apparent when the United States suffers a disaster. Yet, the nation is already upset and senses a great deal of emotions. Unfortunately, when dealing with a situation at this caliber, pathos is the toughest to grasp. Because rather than bringing up sadness – you are trying to control those emotions. ... Just like we've seen in class, music will either change its forms, change its styles, change its themes, or it will evolve into a new form of music. With this in mind, I will use this critical lens to evaluate modern rhythm and blues music. While has gone through gone through changes before, and most likely will continue to evolve, I will be looking at the musical change from the 1990s until modern–day rhythm and blues. In the 1990s, R&B contained within it a strong connection to its origins. By this I mean that R&B music of the 90s had a strong presence of its jazz and blues inspirations that brought about its start. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the popularity of Hip–Hop and Pop music became more and more popular, it slowly caused the genre of R&B to take on more and more influences from pop and hip–hop in order to remain relevant in the listeners' ears. The result of this absorption of influences, which most likely occurred in the 2000s, it gradually lost it long standing connection to jazz and blues. In losing this connection, I believe that R&B lost its soul and its emotional depth to gain a boarder range of subject matter, and to also gain a broader range of artists willing to produce its music. This occurrence brought about a new form of R&B that is more producible to a broader range of audience, including listeners of different: race, ethnicity, age, and musical preference. This brought about the sub–genre of Hip– Hop/R&B from the previous popular sub–genre of R&B/Soul. Differences As I have said before the differences that were created between late 20th century R&B and 21st century R&B are great in number. Family Grieving : Effects Of Family Communication Grieving: Effects of Family Communication Grieving had become a lifestyle, I sat around my home for quite some time by myself, crying, agonizing and suffering. I reluctantly waited for the phone to ring, wondering if I'd ever hear from my siblings or their children again. My family had gone through an extreme and unthinkable tragedy and needed to communicate, but this didn't happen. We were all so wrapped up in our agonizing pain that we forgot to check on one another. Our previously happy family had been shattered, extremely damaged and seemingly irreversible with no evidence of healing any time soon. We were broken, even worse, for the first time, we were divided. Before the tragedy, the Moore family children were very close, due to the absence of our parent, we were all raised together in the big house by Grand–Daddy and loved every minute of it. He taught us to always stay together and never forget family. We listened and happily raised our kids, worshiped, ate meals, worked, relaxed and celebrated together, this was our way of life until July 5, 1996. After that day, there were no more Sunday dinners, Friday fish fry's, Wednesday spaghetti nights, just no more of anything that we had become accustom to as a way of life. At the beginning, we took advantage of being able to be a part of the presidential elections and acquire the facts about what truly mattered during the debates. Lately we've started to look at what the screen is showing us rather than concentrating on what it was actually telling us. We as people have begun to want to appoint our official leaders based on who looks better and television has helped feed this desire for the worst. He is saying that Kennedy acknowledged the fact that his appearance made a big difference in how the people looked at him and he made sure that he was up to par with his looks. Another way they make their appearance look better in comparison is to draw attention away from themselves and attack their opponent's character. This technique is referred to as ad hominem and it is one of the most common ones used in this year's presidential debates. A prime example of this is when Donald Trump once said, "Unstable Hillary Clinton, lacks the judgment, temperament and moral character to lead this country –– and I believe that so strongly," he then later continued with, " She's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've seen, you've seen it a couple times. The people in the background know it, the people who know her know it and she's like an unbalanced person." In this claim he has completely left the topic of what truly matters and has started to stray away from it in an attempt to make Hillary seem inferior. All of this is a battle of image over image. • 69. Persuasive Essay On Equality With the multiple bombings, shootings, and vehicles running over innocent civilians, it would be quite ignorant to believe that equality has, indeed, gotten better. It is true that society as a whole has begun to transition towards equality, but financial, racial, sexual, gender, and religious inequality is still very much a key component of what makes America ironically "free". One example would be America's current president, Donald Trump. Although, while he may be the ringleader and speaker for the narrow–minded, he has yet to greatly impact the course of the U.S. as a whole. In fact, the United States was already on the path to destruction a long time ago. What may have caused it? Well, in my personal opinion, the very stubbornness that has allowed us to fight and prosper as a nation is going to be the very demise of our country. We are not ready for change. We are set in our ways, and even the most influential of leaders will have only the most minor of impacts on the population. The combination of unwillingness to admit to any fault, the lies that are fed to the population, and the blindness of men who choose not to see has led the entirety of the country to become askew, and dangerously so. As the rising generation, myself and my peers must play our parts in reversing whatever we can, and salvaging whatever remains after our imminent destruction. Equality has changed, but not for the better. It's just more advanced, more modern; but, when stripped to its core, it's essentially the same. It's a matter of whips vs. guns, of Non–Caucasians raising their voices without a speaker to transmit them to the world. When juxtaposed against the original Civil Rights issues, those in the past had a plethora of willing and educated colored leaders that wished to peacefully stand up for their rights, while the whites resisted and were unwilling to change. Nowadays, African–Americans have become more risque and dynamic, taking risks when there's no need to. The Caucasians, on the other hand, have begun to look down on them and have trained their minds to believe that, due to what they've learned in the biased media that panders to what they wish to hear, those of colored races should be imploring ... • 73. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Challenger 7 Rhetorical Analysis Essay In President Ronald Reagan's speech, he addresses the situation that occurred between the space shuttle and the Challenger 7 crew at the State of Union. He helped the American public who were sad, confused and shocked about what was going on. The speech was meant to try and make people feel better and to strictly state that the space program will continue at NASA. The Challenger 7 were heroes and they did brilliant work at NASA due to their bravery and courage. In his speech, he used the tone of anguished, proud and uplifting in order to help comfort people to have faith in the American space program after this tragedy. President Reagan uses testimonial appeal in order to communicate and help change the mood of American citizens and to reassure them that regardless of the tragedy that occurred , NASA will continue to explore in space. For example he says, "I've always had great faith in and respect for our space program, We don't hide our space program. We don't keep secrets and cover things up. We do it all up front and in public...– We'll continue our quest in space" (para.5). Also, for instance he states " The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we'll continue to follow them" (para.4).This supports the idea that even though NASA hit a rough patch , this is a part of expanding their horizons so they will continue doing their jobs which is enduring space exploration. This proves that besides the fact that 7 crew members died doing their jobs and being courageous, the journey should not stop and the company should continue moving forward and doing what they do best. Reagan is able to effectively communicate feelings of devoted and enjoyment by using loaded language because as mentioned , NASA will not stop space exploring due to this one accident. And it worked because now it would cause people to support NASA. Reagan is able to effectively communicate feelings of hope and faith because he is trying to make the citizens see that there is a bright side to the situation which is that even though their family and friends died in the shuttle, they are not alone.
