Organicweek2012highlights
1. Organic Week 2012 was the most successful to date and impact greater than ever!
Hundreds of thousands of people saw our materials through print ads in Xtra
(Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa), NOW Toronto, The Grid, and a supplement in The
Globe and Mail, and more than 160,000 people were reached through social media.
Dozens of retailers, community groups, and organizations celebrated Organic Week with
special events and promotions. Even the politicians got involved in the fun…
3. Organic Week 2012 kicks off at CHFA East with an organic cake cutting:
Matthew Holmes, COTA, Olivia Chow, MP-NDP, Helen Sherrard, CHFA,
and Beth McMahon, COG.
4. Many events were organized
across the country, including
farm tours, festivals, harvest
meals, and film screenings.
COG & COTA organized an
event recognizing the 50th
anniversary of Rachel
Carson’s Silent Spring.
5.
6. Provincial Proclamations were signed in
British Columbia and Manitoba, raising
awareness of the organic sector and Organic
Week, as well strengthening government
relations.
7. Retailers offered in-store specials,
contests and draws, special events,
and online engagement. Retailers
appreciated the POS materials and
reported higher sales and good
customer feedback.
8. Organic Week enjoyed an active FB (over 163,000
people reached) and Twitter campaign. New
materials were also produced and launched during
the week, including Organic Chef recipe e-book.
9. Parliament Day was held Oct. 23-24th,
with MP meetings and an all organic
reception in Centre Block. The
reception greeted dozens of MPs, from
all parities, and included two organic
funding announcements by Minister
Gerry Ritz (shown above, centre). Many
interesting–and strategic–conversations
about organics were had!
