This document discusses attracting an audience for a film and summarizing the unique selling point and plot of the proposed film. The target audience is identified as being ages 16-30 with interests in films like action, comedy and thriller genres as well as extreme sports. The unique selling point of the film is that the main character is a "badass" who is forced to do killings for work not because he is heartless but because it is his only job option and it takes a mental toll on him. The opening scene introduces the main character Ben and his girlfriend Kim, then shows him getting a photo of her from a crime lord, leaving the audience wondering if he will shoot her as instructed. The plot aims to keep the audience
2. CHOOSING AN
AUDIENCE
I understand that for a film to be successful you need to
specifically plan on who your target audience will be and you
need to know them. You need to know exactly what they will
find attractive and how to pull them in to watching your film.
Here are a few points that we decided on:
β’ Age β 16-30
β’ Other interests β Film, (action, comedy, thriller) Extreme
sports, festivals, thrill seekers.
β’ Genre β Indie
3. UNIQUE SELLING
POINT.
I believe that our film has a unique selling point, the point is that
our stereotypic badass isnβt a hit man because heβs an ex-
soldier or a heartless killer. He has to do it because itβs the only
work he can get and itβs the only thing he can do. Therefore the
killings that he supposedly carries out have a mental effect on
him, until he eventually breaks and has to get out. He breaks the
βHabitβ
In the opening scene there is a build up of a relationship
between Ben and Kim and the audience can obviously see that
they are a couple. When Ben goes to the Crime lord and the
audience see an exchange of a folder with Kimβs picture inside.
They then begin to wonder, and when Ben raises the pistol, they
are drawn in and want to know what happens. Did he shoot her
or did he not?
4. DOES IT FOLLOW
CONVENTIONS?
βThe main aim of a thriller is to keep the audience
guessing, and to never let them become comfortableβ
With our plot, weβve tried to stick to Thriller conventions.
Especially with the guessing, the end of our opening scene is
a stereotypic cliff-hanger. Although this is a common way to
draw in an audience I think ours is different, shooting your
girlfriend while she sleeps is one cold act to pull off. And the
audience wants to know whether or not heβs going to go
through with it.
5. IS IT ENIGMATIC?
Our scene definitely has enigma. The journey ben takes to
the crime lords office and the exchange of very little words
definitely adds a mysterious or puzzling element. I believe
that all thrillers should be enigmatic and no one in the
audience should be able to expect what happens next. And if
they can expect whatβs going to happen it should either be in
the very few last seconds or to create humour.
One of the main aims of our film (if we were to make it) would
be to create apprehension and to make the audience uneasy
and fear for what was about to happen.
