2. • The target audience for thrillers/My thriller film are aged towards 15+ as 80% of the people surveyed were in this age group, according to
both primary and secondary research, the research on the internet shows that thriller films are mainly watched form the age group of 13+
so did the results on the surveys. The thriller could appeal to those older that this age group due to the many subgenres features within the
thrillers.
• Thriller appeal to both males and female audience and a variety of social classes conventionally thorough the use of relatable characters
and themes throughout the film. Males are interested in thrillers due to the action as they like to see something that gets their heart
beating, and females are usually attracted to thrillers because they like to watch something that plays questons in their heads, wondering
what will happen next
• a key point of thrillers that interest my target audience is the use of suspense and tension. This can be specifically seen with psychological
thrillers which uses constant twist in plot to keep the audience on the edge of their seat.
• Overall, thrillers appeal to a wide audience and the large variety of sub-genres means that the thriller genre can easily relate to a range of
audience. I have decided to have 15+ most likely up to 30 years as my target audience, as this range is quite wide, especially as my opening
sequence video is not just a thriller but also goes under crime, and mystery, physiological thriller targeting even more viewers. within my
research the target audience for my thriller believed that the conventions of a thriller film included: suspense and tension, constant twist,
dramatic atmosphere, scary, keeps you on th edge of our seat, a cold feeling conveyed and the constant shocks with the plot
People who are interested in a thriller mystery, a plot with a bit of a puzzle and tension tend to go for this type of media
product. They want to be left in a puzzle so they can make their own assumptions and paint the narrative/conclusion alone.
People who watch this media product could be adults who enjoy the thrill they get from solving mysteries, or being
astonished by the unpredictable conclusion., as they will be the ones that engage deeply
3. A key appeal for the target audience of thrillers is the characters which can appeal to the audience relating back to them,
they feel sympathy and empathy for them, according to the narrative. This can be seen in scream which aimed to appeal
mainly to a young adult audience. Through using a mainly teenage cast, each with their own individual story the audience
was able to relate to the characters and therefore become more interested in the film and what happened to the
characters.
Within my research surveys, I was able to find out that other than thrillers the audience was interested in the horror film
genre. This could be due to the similar conventions of the genre, both of which contain suspense, fear, mystery and a
gloomy atmosphere.
The most appealing thriller sub-genre were: psychological thrillers, mystery thrillers, and supernatural thrillers, in which
they all feature the key themes of mystery and suspense.
Within my research the target audience for my thriller believed that the conventions of a thriller film included, suspense
and tension, constant twist, dramatic atmosphere scary keeps you on the edge of your seat, a cold feeling conveyed and the
constant shocks within the plot.
A key element within thrillers is the theme of disguise which creates mystery within the film. The disguise is conventionally
used on the antagonist characters so that the audience are unaware of what the characters is like. This can be found in
thrillers such as scream, purge and the black swan which all use disguise to create suspense with the film.
My media product uses the idea of the brave one in the sense that both female characters are attacked, and controlled by
their partners. so she sets out in a mission after recovering by taking revenge form her partner and killing him. these
mystery sometimes exposes the murderer like this film but my film 'Unknown' is a bit more covered as it is a mystery for the
audience. This is another movie that really inspired me to come up with the films plot. The film is called enough and just like
'The brave one, its is also about a woman who gets brutally abused and is on the run form her husband, so she begins to
train herself to fight back. moreover for my film their are no signs that she was brutally abused other than the fact that her
husband was screaming out her name rudely, once he finished his food for a re-fill. The rest of the film is meant to show it
but as a opening sequence we felt that we shouldn't reveal to much.
