In San Manuel Bueno, Martyr, Miguel de Unamuno describes the tragic tale of a priest who finds himself unable to believe the messages that he

village as a saintly figure. He recognizes his own suffering from his life without faith and devotes his life to withholding his truth from the masses in

For each person individually, the religion that they follow is the one that seems the truest. My religion feels quite real to me, though to an atheist or a
Muslim, it probably looks like self–deception. An individual's religious experiences, or lack thereof, shape the way they view religion as a whole and
something they have yet to experience will be susceptible to disbelief. Religion itself can "make" a person, as Don Manuel states, as it develops the
way they approach life and the issues of it. For Manuel, his major conflict was that without religion, he had no purpose; he had "been born only to
die" (de Unamuno 238). Those in the town believed that death only ended life physically and that one's soul would live on in heaven, giving them

Tamara Kamenszain's Poetry Of The Neobaroque
On a first commentary regarding her writing practice, Tamara Kamenszain stated that her approach to literature was framed by the study of philosophy.
She highlighted the influence that Lezama Lima's work had on her writing, suggesting that he facilitated the bridge between literature and
philosophical reflection. However, in thinking of such reflection, it could perhaps be considered as one that does not fully encapsulate the "I" because,
as we have clearly seen, the poetry of the Neobaroque–as well as of the Baroque–is marked by the absence of the subject. Kamenszain spoke briefly of
Roland Barthes and his contention that the writers of his generation suffered the censorship of the subject. The author even shared a story of a work of
hers that was rejected because the referent was clearly distinguishable. Taking into consideration both Kamenszain's poetry reading and her visit to our
class, В¬I am interested in reflecting on the interplay between this idea of the censorship of the subject and the term Neoborroso, proposed by the
author herself.
At the poetry reading held a few weeks ago, Kamenszain stated that her introduction of the term Neoborroso had a lot to do with an eagerness to
eliminate dualisms. She also referred to Alejandra Pizarnik's idea of escriborrotear–to write and to erase all at the same time, a game of doing and
undoing simultaneously. Nonetheless, the idea of the borroso seems to be in conflict with la claridad that doing autobiographical work requires.
