1. Install VMware Tools in a Solaris Guest
Before you begin, make sure the virtual machine is powered on and the guest operating system is running.
To install VMware Tools in a Solaris guest
1 O n the host, choose VM > Install VMware Tools.
If an earlier version of VMware Tools is installed, the menu item is Update VMware Tools.
2 O n the guest, log in as root (su).
3 I f necessary, mount the VMware Tools virtual CD-ROM image.
Usually, the Solaris volume manager vold mounts the CD-ROM under /cdrom/vmwaretools. If the CD-ROM is not
mounted, restart the volume manager using the following commands:
/etc/init.d/volmgt stop
/etc/init.d/volmgt start
After the CD-ROM is mounted, change to a working directory (for example, /tmp) and extract VMware Tools by
4
entering the following commands:
cd /tmp
gunzip -c /cdrom/vmwaretools/vmware-solaris-tools.tar.gz | tar xf -
5 R un the VMware Tools tar installer:
cd vmware-tools-distrib
./vmware-install.pl
Respond to the configuration prompts. Press Enter to accept the default value.

To change the default VMware Tools configuration options, see Open the VMware Tools Control Panel.
On Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris guests, open a terminal window and enter the command:

Mounting CD-ROMs on Solaris
On most Solaris systems, the CD-ROM mounts automatically when you insert it into the CD-ROM
drive. If the CD-ROM does not mount automatically, follow these steps to mount it:
1. Switch user to root:
2. $ su - root
3. If necessary, enter the following command to eject the currently mounted CD-ROM, then
remove it from the drive:
4. # eject
5. Insert the first CD-ROM (CD 1) into the CD-ROM drive.
6. To verify that the CD-ROM mounted automatically, enter the following command:
7. # ls /cdrom/cdrom0
8. If the previous command fails to display the contents of the CD-ROM, enter a command
similar to the following to mount the CD-ROM:
9. # /usr/sbin/mount -r -F hsfs /dev/dsk/cxtydzs2 /cdrom
In this example, /cdrom is the CD-ROM mount point directory and /dev/dsk/cxtydzs2 is the
device name for the CD-ROM device, for example /dev/dsk/c0t2d0s2.
2. 10. If the Installer displays the Disk Location dialog box, enter the CD-ROM mount point
directory path, for example:
o CD-ROM mounted automatically:
o /cdrom/cdrom0
o CD-ROM mounted manually:
o /cdrom
