  1. 1. HELLO TO ALL, MY NAME IS IMRAN. A. FAROOQI• Today we will see to how to format a system using XP CD. IMRAN AHMED FAROOQI
  2. 2. Reformat Your Hard Drive Using a Windows XP***Warning this might erase all of your data particularly if you didnot partition your hard drive. Back up all your files to a removablestorage, CDs or DVDs or to another hard disk before continuing.Have your device drivers ready as well as these will be installedafter the reformat. Make sure you have your Windows XPinstallation disc with a valid serial key before proceeding. Consultyour computer manufacturer’s manual for more reference. IMRAN AHMED FAROOQI
  3. 3. STEP 1Make sure that your computer will boot to CD or DVD drive first. Watch the first screenduring boot, it will usually tell you what to press to access the boot menu. Some BIOShave different ways on accessing the boot menu. The most common is by pressing F8, orF12. If this doesn’t work then try F11 and F12. You should see a small screen that saysboot menu. Make sure to select CD ROM or DVD ROM. If you still can’t access the bootmenu using the shortcut key then you’ll have to change the boot order in BIOS itself. Ifyou’re not so familiar with BIOS then this might be a little bit tricky for you as some BIOShave different menus and ways on changing the boot order sequence IMRAN AHMED FAROOQI
  4. 4. STEP 2Insert your Windows XP disc into your CD or DVD drive thenrestart your computer. You will see on the black screen“Press any key to boot from cd” press Enter. IMRAN AHMED FAROOQI

  10. 10. STEP 6• If you only have one partition listed, then delete the selected partition by pressing “D”. (This will delete everything in your hard drive so make sure you have a back up of everything, including drivers and installers). If you have a second partition for your data files then it may not be necessary to delete this unless you want to format your wholehard drive and start everything new. IMRAN AHMED FAROOQI

  16. 16. Now you will be asked to set the size for the new partition.Create a new size for your system drive (C:) where WindowsXP will be installed and also another partition for your datafiles (D:). Note that the size is in MB and is not always exact. So for example you have 80 GB of hard drive then it may comeout as “76309 MB” in your installation screen. To create the Cpartition, just enter 40000 MB (40GB) and the rest will be foryour second partition. IMRAN AHMED FAROOQI
  17. 17. STEP 10On this screen you will be asked to format the partition. If youhave an old computer it is best to choose the regularformatting using the NTFS file system to avoid any errorsduring set up, otherwise select quick format using NTFS IMRAN AHMED FAROOQI
