and maintenance. A
new vehicle may not
require as much work

3. Maintaining A Vehicle
When a vehicle is serviced or repaired, the
total bill is based on three factors:
Parts cost (includes both PST and GST)
Labour cost (includes only GST except in
British Columbia)
Taxes (GST and/or PST)

4. Example Problem #1
Jane took her car to a car dealer in Manitoba for
servicing. The oil and oil filter were changed, and
the new wiper blades were installed. The costs
for parts were as follows; 4 litres of oil @ $2.05 a
litre, 1 filter @ $5.60 and 2 wiper blades @
$14.75 a pair. The time required to do the work
was 0.6 hours. The shop rate for labour was
$59.00 an hour. How much is Jane going to have
to pay?
