Divinity In The Gospel Of John
Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus continued to get himself into trouble with Jewish leaders and
authorities, bringing heavy persecution upon himself. The root of these misunderstandings was his
self–proclaimed connection to God, a level of divinity that the religious leaders could not
comprehend. Throughout this paper, the deity or divinity of Jesus (during his short tenure on earth)
will be demonstrated, through proof that Jesus certainly did claim to be God, both indirectly and
directly throughout the Gospel of John, and deal with the direct sayings and teachings of Jesus, as
recorded by His apostle John.
God is everything that we know currently and what the Jews knew in their time period; He is life
itself. This is where the Jewish leaders

There are many significant differences between gospel of John compared to the the synoptic
gospels. The way Jesus was portrayed in John is the main distinction. There are stories that only
appear in John that do not appear in the other gospels. These stories give an idea of Jesus as the
"special" one. Four of the seven signs in the gospels were only mentioned in John. Jesus is portrayed
as the "Holy One of God" compared to the other gospels. There are many details that can be drawn
from the events that are only recorded in the gospel of John. The gospel of John shows what
miracles that have been left out, the response that Jesus made to Peter's confession, how Jesus was

It it said that he preformed seven miracles. However, John is the only gospel that has all of the
miracles written in its book. The four miracles that Jesus preformed that are not listed in the other
gospels are the healing of a royal official son, the healing of a blind man from birth, the healing of a
paralyze man, and the raising of Lazarus from the dead. This shows the significant differences
between John and the other three gospels because of more events and details that are being told
about Jesus in his time of living. This is something a person will be about to point out because of the
amount of events are brought up. A person would think that Jesus fits the description that Peter
describe in John 6:69 as the "Holy One of God". The book of John is the only gospel that included
all of the miracles that Jesus preformed. This has significance to it because of what the miracles
were and when they are told. This is importance in portraying who Jesus was in John. The main
reason is if Jesus preformed all these miracles, then one can easily see who Jesus was in his time of
living. One can also get an understanding of why Jesus was consider the "Holy" one and the "Son of

Essay on Analysis of the Gospel of John
Analysis of the Gospel of John
The Gospel of John, the last of the four gospels in the Bible, is a radical departure from the simple
style of the synoptic gospels. It is the only one that does not use parables as a way of showing how
Jesus taught, and is the only account of several events, including the raising of Lazarus and Jesus
turning water into wine. While essentially the gospel is written anonymously, many scholars believe
that it was written by the apostle John sometime between the years 85 and 95 CE in Ephesus. The
basic story is that of a testimonial of one of the Apostles and his version of Jesus' ministry. It begins
by telling of the divine origins of the birth of Jesus, then goes on to prove that He is the Son of ...

With phrases like "We beheld His glory" (1:14) and knowing the number of pots at the wedding at
Cana (Malick, 1996), it is well supported that this is an eyewitness account of the event, even
though some scholars place the authorship of John as late as 270 BCE. Most of the evidence that
points to the "eyewitness account" theory are minor details that would be left out had the author not
actually been there. Such details include specific numbers (six water jars [2:6], 100 miles [6:19],
153 fish [21:11] [Malick, 1996]) and names that would normally have been forgotten such as
Nicodemus, Lazarus (as can be noted from the lack of his story in the synoptic gospels) and Beth–
zatha.
It is also interesting to note that even though John makes it very clear that the author is Jewish, the
Gospel is written primarily for a Greek audience. Because of his knowledge of the Old Testament,
which he continually quotes, his understanding of Jewish ritual and culture and he knew and
understood the prophesy of the coming Messiah, there is no doubt that either John was Jewish
himself or he studied Judaism very well. However, the lack of concern for proving the prophecies
set down in the Book of Isaiah supports evidence that this was not a testimony to a Jewish audience.
Throughout the gospel, Jesus is shown as being both fully God and fully human, a concept that is
more synonymous with Greek culture. Also, the very beginning of John states that Jesus was with

The Gospel Of Luke And John
The gospel of Luke and John are gospels about Jesus and John the Baptist. They have several
differences and similarities. The Gospel of Luke describes the conception and birth of John the
Baptist and Jesus while the gospel of Luke describes their life after birth. Summaries, variances, and
connections of these two gospels are discussed below.
The Gospel of Luke focuses on the conception and the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus. It also
provides the histories of Elizabeth and Zachariah. It also describes Angel Gabriel's announcement to
Zachariah and the Virgin Mary.
In the first four verses, Luke gives a short but valuable outline about the nature of the gospel. He
says he want to declare those things that are most assuredly believed ... Show more content on

The son would also go before Jesus to turn disobedient to the wisdom of the just and the hearts of
fathers to children. He was also to prepare people for the coming of the Lord.
Elizabeth conceives, and she hides for five months glorifying God for enabling her to conceive. God
sends angel Gabriel after six months to a virgin called Mary in the city of Nazareth. The angel tells
her to rejoice since she was highly favored and would bear a son named Jesus.
The son will be great and will be called the Son of the Highest and God will give him the throne of
David. He will also reign over Jacob's house forever. Mary, just like Zachariah doubts the angel's
words since she didn't know a man. The angel tells her that she will conceive of the Holy Spirit and
Jesus will be called the Son of God. He tells her that her relative is also pregnant for with God
nothing is impossible. Mary says that she is a servant of God and he could do whatever he wished
with her.
Mary visits Elizabeth, and they both celebrate their blessings. Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Spirit
and asks why she was granted that privilege that the mother of her Lord should visit her. She also
says that as soon as Mary greeted her, the babe leaped in her womb in joy. She also calls Mary a
happy woman for those things that were told to her will be fulfilled because of her faith.
Mary also magnifies God for allowing

Authorship In The Gospel Of John
The Gospel of John stands out as one who has been appointed by God who testifies about the life
and ministry of Jesus. The study of John allows one to see the Jesus as our entry way for salvation.
The authorship of John allows one to understand Jesus by an actual and reliable witness to the
origins of Jesus ministry, death and resurrection. This extraordinary piece of work is also reflected
by the early church fathers. The attempt of this paper will assert that the evidence for authorship of
John is more convincing that discrediting.
Authorship
The gospel of john has not seen the last of debates as to the authenticity of authorship, date and
location. There does not seem to be a compelling argument why we should not discount Johannine

First, evidence should be viewed by the author and his statements. Most statements with the epistle
itself does suggest that the individual was an eye witness to the many acclamation of the mission of
Jesus1 John 1:1–4). Other such evidence will be viewed by the early church tradition and fathers
who will provide both external and internal support for the conclusion. "By the close of the first
century, the apostles were clearly called "presbyters" or "Elders." Eusebius quotes Papias who refers
to an "Elder John and this reveals that there is no reason not to designate the author of the epistles
by his traditional name, John."[3] Charles Freeman sees that the role of the controversies is plagued
by the birth of what was a new "religion from its birth in Judaea in the first century A.D." [4] One
question that circulates is why not John signed his name. It is a very logical to assume that the
Gospel's message not the identity was most relevant. According to R. Alan Culpepper, "the influence
of the Gospel of John on Christian theology–can hardly be measured, its popularity and john was
esteemed by the church.

Jesus In The Gospel Of John
In the Gospel of John, John is portraying God and Jesus, as more than just a man who came into
existence, He is God. Jesus meets with a man named Nicodemus and informed him that nobody can
go to heaven unless they have been "Born–Again". Throughout these reading Jesus claims to be God
himself. He states that he is the resurrection and the life. The last 24 hours of Jesus' life was
discussed in chapters 13–17, from the Last Supper to the burial death and resurrection of Christ.
Jesus resurrected and rose from the dead and appeared to Mary Magdalene and his disciples. In the
story of The Wedding at Cana in John 2:1–12, Mary, the mother of Jesus was there, Jesus himself
was invited as well. When they ran out of wine, Mary asked Jesus to help

The Gospel of John is amazing and unique in its own way. There's a lot of different controversies
that arises to the surface because of the differences between John and the Synoptic Gospels
(Matthew, Mark, Luke). There are differences in stories, themes, writing styles, and so on. It's like
hearing 4 different people tell the same story. You will always get something different; different
answers, details, etc. John has helped to form a lot of what modern day Christians now believe. I
don't know where we would be without the Gospel of John, no matter how different and unique
from the Synoptics. John is very different from the Synoptic Gospels. In our text, it actually says,
"John differs from the three canonical Gospels so dramatically that they are called Synoptic Gospels
('Seeing alike'), whereas John is unique." (Works Cited 4). You would have to be blind to not realize
how entirely different John is from the Synoptics. The textbook, "The ... Show more content on

There is actually, more evidence against John's knowing about the Synoptics at the time. If John did
know about the other Gospels, he did not use them as his independent source. There's not enough
evidence to even say that John knew about them, let alone that he used them as his independent
sources, or sources at all for that matter. "The differences are so great that John can hardly have
drawn on the Synoptics as a major source for his material. John clearly relies on an Independent
source of tradition for his Gospel, one that he attributes to the Beloved Disciple" (Works Cited 4).
Everything that is written in the Gospel of John is entirely too different. The way Jesus talks is
different (as I stated earlier), the stories that are noted are different stories, there aren't any parables,
the general theme is different, the description of Jesus, His identity, His ministry, and so much

But since this figure became important in Johannine community history (perhaps founder of the

Andreas J. Kostenberger on the other hand, says in his introduction "Very possibly written by John

Kostenbergers feelings on this matter of authorship are indicated in the emotive

by liberal German scholars, John's Gospel stands today widely rehabilitated as a reliable witness to
the life, words and deeds of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Kostenberger does attempt to "balance" things a little by later stating " As to authorship, all options,
including apostolic authorship, must remain on the table, without undue dogmatism on all sides."
A little further on Kostenberger writes " Althought the hypothesis of the apostolic authorship of the

Themes of John's gospel
1. Light vs. Darkness
a. The dual between light which is Christ and his ways and darkness which is Satan and the ways of
the world is one of the more obvious themes in the Gospel of John.
2. Water/Life
a. Water is one of the most significant elements in sustaining life. In the Gospel of John, Christ is
shown as having power of water and thus has the power to give living water.
i. Christ turns water to wine (John 2)
ii. Christ's discourse on Living Waters at Jacob's well (John 4)
iii. Christ heals the invalid man at the Pools of Bethesda (John 5)
iv. Christ walks on water (John 6)

4. Replacement/Transcendent/Fulfillment
a. For John, the coming of Christ brought about a replacement, transcendence, and fulfillment of
events and places which were held sacred among the Jews.
i. The replacement of the Temple with the body of Christ either resurrection or body of the Church
[John 2:13–22]
ii. The replacement of the worship in the sacred mountains of Gerizim and Ebal with the worship of
Christ [John 4]

The Gospel Of John
1. Who was John, and why was he qualified to write a book in the Bible?
1. John was a disciple of Jesus and wrote the Book of John (Strauss, 2011, 9083). He was qualified
to write a book in the Bible because he held an "eyewitness testimony" of Jesus' life and ministry
and states so in his gospel (Strauss, 2011, 9083). John "provides many incidental details one would
expect only from an eyewitness (2: 6; 5: 5; 18: 10, 15 – 16; 21: 11), is familiar with predestruction
Jerusalem (5: 3; 9: 7; 10: 23; 18: 28; cf. 4: 5 – 6), and knows the traditions and customs of
Palestinian Judaism (2: 6, 23; 6: 4; 7: 2, 37 – 39; 10: 22; 19: 14, 31)" (Strauss, 2011, 9083). John
holds a great concern for detail specifically in his chronology unlike the Synoptics, truly speaking to
his qualifications to write a biblical book (Strauss, 2011, 9083).
2. What is the main theme of the Book of John, and how does it differ from the other Gospels?
1. The central theme of the Book of John is "Jesus is the divine Son of God who reveals the Father,
providing eternal life to all who believe in him" (Strauss, 2011, 6749). John highly emphasizes
Jesus' identity by providing extensive reports of Jesus' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main message of this gospel account is "Jesus is the Son who reveals His Father" to the world
(Strauss, 2011, p. 7448). Jesus sees and has seen God as the Father (Strauss, 2011, p. 7448).
Although, Jesus is a distinct entity from the Father, Jesus is fully and wholly God (Strauss, 2011, p.
7448). Furthermore, Jesus is the Word of God and the Father's "self–revelation" (Strauss, 2011, p.
7448). Anyone who sees Jesus has seen the Father (Strauss, 2011, p. 7448). Thus, Jesus "shares
God's attributes" because he too has created all things, the ultimate giver, lover, "final judge" and
"sustainer of life" (Strauss, 2011, p. 7448). John attempts to show readers that Jesus and God, the
Father and Son are one and operate in completeness and certain unity (Strauss, 2011, p.

The Gospels Of Christian Beliefs In The Gospel Of John
The Gospel of John reflects a Christian tradition that is different from that of the other gospels.
Many individuals and groups within the early Christian movement rejected it as heresy. However, it
was ultimately accepted into the official canon, over many objections. It is now the favorite gospel
of many conservative Christians, and the gospel least referred to by many liberal Christians. The
Gospel of John is noticeably different from the other three Gospels in content, and the structure of
the content. The first chapter of John is very similar to the beginning of the Book of Genesis, where
it talks about the beginning of the world and creation. Another difference between the Gospel of
John and the other Synoptics is the lack of a certain miracle Jesus performed found in the book.
Unlike the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, John has no record of Jesus performing exorcisms.
While John does talk about healing the sick and blind, nowhere in the Gospel do we find Jesus
exorcising demons. One of the main talking points within the Gospels is the ministry of Jesus. From
what we can determine, upon reading the four Gospels, we can see that of the four, John tells us
Jesus' ministry lasted longer than a year. According to John, the span of Jesus' ministry lasted three
years instead of one year (as depicted by the other three Synoptics).
Unlike Matthew, Mark, and Luke, John primarily emphasized Jesus' divinity instead of humanity. A
verse that supports John's focus of divinity

genre which is the Gospel. Before reading the book of John it important to know the main focus and
intentions of the book which is that the Gospel is primarily focused on the life of Jesus and its main
objective is to prove that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. As Russel puts it by reading the Gospel,
readers can discover the charactersists of Jesus and learn about his teachings that serve as an
outstanding model for all Christians who seek spiritual growth. One must keep in mind also the
various directions for interpreting the Gospels which in the book of John contain six which include:

His character is shown through his loving and caring heart for his apostles and his death which he
foretold to the people proves that he is the Messiah who would indeed come to die for the all of our
sins. This passage solely fits in the immediate context along with the exegesis of the time period
approximately around A.D. 80 and 95. Due to the miracles and teachings that Jesus was performing
for mass crowds and attracting many of the jews in the surrounding communities of which included
often high up people in the ranks. Because of this interest people exhibited in wanting to listen and
find Jesus daily the Pharisees began to grow annoyed and frustrated, they came to the general
consensus that the only thing left to do would be to arrest Jesus. However, due to the enormous
crowds Jesus was beginning to form from his teachings the Pharisees were unable to arrest him at
the time. From the teachings and miracles that Jesus did it attracted not only Jews from surrounding
areas but also many people from ethnic backgrounds all which came to see Jesus in Jerusalem, Jesus
spoke to the people about the hour of glorification: his own death. However, when Jesus preached of
the hour of glorification the apostles became more aware that Jesus would be going to a place
physically unreachable, this took a mental toll on them all once again in the form of discouraged and
abandonment. But, like the time before

Jesus Christ's early ministry, but John is a special gospel. John is different with other gospels. Most
of gospels are very similar, most of contents are what Jesus did. In John gospel, the content is only
8% parallel to other gospels. Most of contents are new things. The reason is John is the latest gospel

The Gospel Of John And Light
The Gospel of John and Light. In the Gospel of John we see in the first four verses that he makes a
very powerful statement linking the Word, God, Life and the Light as all being one, a person. He
does this by saying, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him and without him nothing
came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race."
(JN 1:1–4). Jesus is the light that is spoken about in the first chapter of the Gospel of John. Without
this light we are lost, but if we follow the light we will be saved from our evil ways and have hope.
In these first four verses of the Gospel of John we see that the Word was God and brought forth life
through himself "and this life was the light of the human race." (JN 1:4). Let's skip forward a few
verses in the first chapter and we see that there was a major event that took place on the earth. "And
the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory of the
Father's only Son, full of grace and truth." (JN 1:14). This most worthy event was the birth of the
God Man, the Son of God, the Word made flesh and who is the Word, none other than the God the
Light. In this way we see that God is the Word, the Word is the creator of life and the life from the
Word is the Light of the human race. This light then become flesh and takes up dwelling with us,

Comparing John And The Gospel Of John
Gospel's Analysis In the faith of Christianity, their are four distinct disciples of gospel accounts.
Each of the four gospels has its own unique contribution to shaping a precise picture of Jesus.
Scholars have contributed a great deal to the understanding of the circumstances of their writing,
along with the intentions of their authors. Their are two groups to which the gospels are separated
by. The synoptic gospels and the gospel of John. Their are critical differences between these two
groups when comparing the historical aspects. They are all differentiated by very tiny detail, but all
of them tend to show prove how one was used to write the other. First will be the differences
between the two groups. Second will be the the similarities between the synoptic gospels and the
gospel of John. One of the differences is the literary point of views they are written in. The
synoptics are written from a third person point of view, describing the events as if the authors had
personally observed all of them and were reporting what they saw at the time. They are extremely
descriptive in their approach. John's Gospel, on the other hand, although also written from a third
person point of view, is more reflective in a way, clearly later than the events he describes. The
author of the Fourth Gospel very carefully separates himself from the events he describes. It is clear
that he was an eyewitness of the life of Jesus, but he looks back upon it from a temporal

Differences Of The Three Synoptic Gospels And The Gospel...
Christianism is shown these days to be a religion along with other sub–religions. There is wide array
of different beliefs and views about the same divinities, such as God and Jesus. There are many
religions like Protestantism, Catholicism, Evangelism, Jehovah's Witness and many more with
different perspectives about Jesus in the New Testament. Many questions come into our mind when
it comes to Jesus, such as: who is he? Is he really human or divine? Which Gospel is actually telling
us the truth? In fact, even the gospels in the New Testament have many different perspectives about
Jesus Christ. To be precise, the first four gospels from the New Testament, which are the three
Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John have many differences among each other with their
portrayal of Jesus. In the following paragraphs, I will be exploring in depth these differences by
describing how these texts describes Jesus' deeds, message and his title of who he is. First of all, the
gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke are known to be the Synoptic Gospels. The word "Synoptic"
means "seen together" (Ehrman, p.121). In other words, these gospels all have common stories that
are often really similar from one another (Ehrman, p.121). The Gospel of John is not considered as a
Synoptic, since it's not near having common story patterns and repetitions like them, it is considered
as distinctive and popular Gospel from the New Testament (Ehrman, p.169). The first topic that
shows a prominent distinction

The Gospel Of John And The Writing Of His Gospel
Reading through the Gospel of John can bring up many questions about the fourth canonical book
and the writing of his gospel. Some of those questions have answers and some do not. In this essay
we will take a look at some of them that has biblical answers. The first question is did John write the
gospel bearing his name? Second, who was the audience that he was writing to? Third, what was the
purpose of John writing the gospel?
Did John write the gospel bearing his name? In the gospel of John it never provides the name of the
author. There are no other indications in the bible either. There are two important factors that tell us
that John is the author. In the Gospel of John it identifies the author as the disciple whom Jesus
loved. This likely pointed to John and there are three reasons. First, John was one of the twelve
disciples, he was a witness of the actual events (John 21:14). He was part of the inner circle of the
disciples because Mary told him first of the resurrection (John 20:1–10). John was distinguished
from others in the book. The Gospel of John was discovered around AD 135. However, some
scholars think that it was written (AD 70) when Jerusalem was destroyed. This writer believes that
AD 85–90 is the more accepted time for the writing of the Gospel of John.
Who was the audience that he was writing to? John was writing to the church, I believe that he was
also writing to the people who did not believe. John focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. The

Essay on Belief in the Gospel of John
In the Gospel of John, to "believe" entails trusting Jesus, as he is the Son of the Father and that there
are just consequences and rewards of belief in him. Just discovers how "belief in" Jesus involves a
level of trust that incorporates him as part of a "tented" family. This belief can be rewarded with
eternal life, as well as a personal connection to Jesus Christ. In John's Gospel, Jesus is the "Son of
God" (John 1:34) and he is the key to eternal life in heaven.
John provides the readers of his gospel with a distinct perspective of "belief" in his writings. In the
passage, "But many of the crowd began to believe in him, and said, 'When the Messiah comes, will
he perform more signs than this man has done?'" (John 7:31). Trust in Jesus ... Show more content

However, if this power is misinterpreted it can cause a misunderstanding with varying
consequences.
In the Gospel of John "belief" in Jesus is using a reward as an incentive. Jesus says, "'Whoever
believes in me... were to receive'" (John 7:38–39), It can be inferred that anyone who wants eternal
life can have it but they must believe in him and trust that when he comes he will "[have] 'living
water' flow out of one's heart"(Just). In this passage "belief" in Jesus has a reward of eternal life that
is received after steadfast belief in the Lord. Eternal life is a moral transformation must be accepted
within the presence of God. There are also consequences to everlasting life such as no chance for
resurrection. The Gospel of John's perspective depicts Jesus proclaiming "'whoever believes in me
believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me, and whoever sees me sees the one who sent
me'" (John 12:44–45). Jesus is said to be greater than Moses and that he is law and that what he does
is right. In this passage Jesus proclaims that belief in him also involves belief in the one who sent
him, God. Jesus also says that anyone who sees him can also see the one who sent him. Belief is
prominent in this passage because it involves belief in Jesus as well as seeing Jesus allows one to
believe in and see the one who sent Jesus. Belief in this passage is specifically tied to belief into the
Lord, which allows one to truly connect with God and become the follower he

The Gospel Of John Analysis
The Gospel of John, as a way for the Church of today to "reshape" the understanding and condition

down the gospel of John into a foundational belief system as "the justification through faith in

Brief Summary Bing gives an in–depth look at "saving faith" and why a defense of believing in
Christ is imperative in the foundations of faith alone. One must not only "defend Christ" one must
also "defend faith in Christ" In this paper he has taken point on verse by verse stepping stones of
what the Doctrine of Salvation is. Not just the bases of metaphorical outcome, but solid exactness
that stresses in each aspect Faith and Christ.

explains what is not present in John; "qualifiers as he calls them, i.e. truly, really, genuine, real, or
effectual." One either believes or one does not. There is no in between with salvation and faith
according to the way that Bing explains it. Mainly, because there are not any conditions to salvation
and faith, and John shows that in his gospel. As Jesus spoke to the woman at the well in John 4, all
that was necessary was her "belief that He was Christ the Messiah, the "I Am" (John

has many complex elements to his personality and without all of these the picture is not complete.
The above quote by Käsemann suggests that in the gospel of John Jesus' divinity is definite and his
presence is felt on the entire world through his words and actions. This allows for the human Jesus
but implies the divine Jesus is imperative.
The divinity of Jesus Christ is something that is very apparent in the gospel of John. Käsemann's

Jesus says this in John 15:1 "I AM the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser" (NASB). It is
interesting to see the context and time when Jesus says this, and to see the relationship between him
and his Father. I have always had a found liking to this particular passage as I grew up on an apple
orchard, and was very acutely aware of the process of pruning branches at a young age. The concept
of pruning away or cleaning the branches in order to bear much fruit is something that I related to
very easily throughout my life.
Reading the surrounding verses, Jesus is talking and walking with his disciples when he spoke this
statement. Many theologians agree that this discourse took place right after the Passover meal: "The
fruit of which he had been just speaking of at supper with his disciples; and then informs them, that
he himself is the vine from whence that fruit must be expected, which should be partook of by them
in his Father's kingdom..." There are many different reasons given as to why Jesus uses this analogy
at this particular time but is simply most likely because vines were something very common in the
city. "The grapevine was a common sight in Israel. In fact, vineyards were so plenteous that the vine
became the national symbol of Israel".
This statement by Jesus is also coming at a time when His arrest and death are nearing. This
statement is sandwiched right in between Jesus' promise of the Holy Spirit to his disciples, and His

The Gospel Of John Essay
The three main ideas that can be understood by the text in the gospel is servitude, humility and
selfless love. The first step in understanding the verse is understanding the writing style the author
of John took. For the most part the gospel of John is written in third person, like that of the synoptic
gospels. The difference between the synoptic gospels and the gospel of Joh is that the author of John
has more of a reflective description to his writing. The text also shows clear separation from the
author and the events which is what shows the reader of the gospel that the description of event was
written then it was recorded. The reader can see the events described through the eyes of the author,

Even to this day it is preached to respect one's elders, in every form they come in. In this time, it
was the teacher who got his feet washed by his disciples. In the text, it is in fact Jesus, the teacher,
who washes the feet of his disciples, the followers. He did the work that was usually accomplished
by the lowest person in the social hierarchy. It was the servant who washed the feet of his master or
his master's guest. Since it is shown that the teacher performing the actions of the lowest servant it
shows the John was showing that work of a disciple should include actions that can sometimes be
perceived as below them. It shows that in fact no action is beneath a disciple, because his job is not
to just serve the higher ups, but also people who have nothing. It was a disciple's job to serve all,
without bias as a forethought in their mind and heart. Selfless love is an action of serving that is very
connected to humility. John shows that in loving Christ you must also learn to love others above
yourself, which and value to humility because now there is this idea of undying love through
servitude and humility. The actions of washing the feet of the disciples also features foreshadowing
into the death of Jesus. Because in the end, Jesus, will do the ultimate act of service and modesty by
sacrificing himself not only for his disciples but even the people who denied

The Resurrection Of Lazarus In The Gospel Of John
Of all the miracles Jesus is said to have performed, the raising of Lazarus (John 11:1–54) is perhaps
the most consequential in that it so greatly pushes the bounds of believability while simeltaneously
offering incredible promises, should its veracity be accepted. Whereas some of Jesus' miracles could
be explainable in a modern context–such as various forms of blindness being curable by certain
medicines or outpatient procedures–there has never been a proven instance of a man rising after
being dead for two days. There are inherent problems with stories that so drastically and
dramatically challenge people's paradigms: the philosophical problem of a miracle is whether or not
miracles can ever happen; the historical problem of a miracle is ... Show more content on

Jesus' directness in proclaiming himself divine, and that he is to be devoutly followed, is one of the
key themes that make the Gospel of John and the account of Lazarus' resurrection comparatively
unique. The role of narrative criticism is to take such factors and differences between narratives into
account, as well as to analyze texts individually and in varying contexts, in order to better
understand them. The resurrection of Lazarus is situated in the Gospel of John after the accounts of
Jesus' public ministry and just before he is crucified and resurrected. As such, it provides a dramatic
and pivotal narrative function of illustrating one of the greatest of Jesus' benevolent, supernatural
feats (resurrection) just before his own death and resurrection, with Jesus proclaiming that all who
believe in Him will similarly be resurrected in the form of eternal life (John 11:25–26). Moreover,
Jesus doesn't just resurrect Lazarus, he does so in dramatic fashion, in front of a crowd: "he cried
with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out'" (John 11:43), revealing the resurrected man from inside a
cave, perhaps as a magician would reveal a healthy, intact subject who had previously been seen
sawed in

Gospel Of John Explanation
Explanation: The Gospel of John begins like no other. It begins, not at Jesus' birth, not at the time of
the prophets, not even at Adam, but in the very beginning, before there was anything. Anything, that
is, except God and the Word who was God. John introduces this Word as the light and the life and
the creator of everything. And yet his own creation did not know him. At this point, the man whom
Jesus called the greatest prophet of all (Luke 7:28) is introduced: John the Baptist. He came to wake
the world up to see their creator that had come to them. Truly, he came to "prepare the way of the
Lord" (Isaiah 40:3), a light to testify of the Light that was even already come. John's role was to
open the eyes of the world to see the Christ that had come: the Savior they did not recognize or
receive, the Light they, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This comparison of the covenants must have been shocking to those that knew and lived under the

New Testament, 21st century believers have a hard time recognizing the weight that the old
covenant held. Since we already know the dazzling beauty of the new covenant, we miss the true
amazement of the old covenant. It was a way for imperfect humans to escape the wrath of God. He
chose Israel as his people, and made a way for them to cover their sin before him. How incredible is
that? Of course it was imperfect, but it was a good, serviceable, God–ordained system and it was all
they knew. But here a new way is introduced and billed as better that that of Moses, a way for man
to see God himself. And could the author be saying that this Word, the instigator of this new
covenant, is God himself? Imagine the wonder this must have held for first century Jews and non–

The Gospel of John for the Church Today
Introduction
This paper will discuss the role of faith for the church and the individual. The "I AM" statements of
the Gospel of John speaks to the basic fundamentals of our Christian walk. The miracles of Jesus
that will be covered in great detail, explain the power of Christ. I will also cover the main theme of
John's Gospel which is the belief in and the love of Christ given freely to everyone.
The Role of Faith
The role of faith in the Gospel of John is presented very powerfully. John explains Jesus as God who
brought all things into existence. John's Gospel confirms that Jesus was Yahweh for the Jews. He ...

When we place our trust in Him as our Savior, He makes us God's children, co–heirs with Him. He
comes to dwell within us through His Holy Spirit, promising that He will never leave us or forsake
us. No matter what we go through, He is there, and His love is ever available to us. He rightfully
reigns as a supreme King in heaven, we need to give Him the position He deserves in our lives as
well. It is only then that we will experience life as He intended and live in the fullness of His love.
Conclusion
The Gospel of John beautifully displays the life of Christ through the signs that He performed. The
"I AM" statements show the character of Christ that we all should follow. The ultimate theme of

The Gospel Of John
The Gospel of John compared to the others has developed a lengthy, philosophical manner of speech
which describes Jesus' divinity as the highest Christology. Through this it expresses Jesus as the
flesh of the eternal and living God, as a Source of Light and a Son of God. John's Gospel focuses on
the individual believers and their relationships with Jesus, as well as, show that the Spirit is the
central connection between God, Jesus and believers. The main purpose of this Gospel is to make
God Known, to inspire belief in himself and the Father, to glorify the Father and to bring salvation.

the oppressed and his desire to help them. Jesus appears ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory states that sin is a provocation to God's great honor. His death brings great honor and
respect to God because he removed all the sins that we erroneously caused. Jesus pays it all back
through his sacrifice. We are then liberated from our sins. Ultimately, this restores a sinner to
harmony by placing them back on the right path in order to repair their relationship with God. The
notion of the Spirit in John, is understand after Jesus' death and his Resurrection because once he
gives up his Spirit, he returns to breath his glorified Spirit onto the disciples who believe in him.
Ultimately, this ties back with the idea that there is a connection between the disciples and the
Father, Son and Spirit. His breath reminds the people of"... what Jesus taught them, and reinforces
the truth that God is love and that they are therefore called to love one another in the self–sacrificial

John the Baptist has the privilege of baptizing Jesus therefore he plays an important role in not only
the Gospel of Mark, but in Jesus' life. John proclaimed, "The one who is more powerful than I is

you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." (Mark 1:7–8) This baptism was
showing that we need to "repent for the forgiveness of our sins." (Mark 1:4) John is aware of how
mighty Jesus is, and knows that he is the coming of God, the man of all creation. John baptized Him
in the Jordan, where afterwards Jesus "saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a

The Gospel Of John And Mark
Position Paper 2: Jesus in the Gospel of John and Mark
All of the Gospels describe the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, but each author illustrates the
stories differently. Scholars believe Mark is the first Gospel written and is symbolized by a lion to
denote Christ as powerful and fast–paced. The Book of John, understood to be the last gospel
composed, is perceived as an eagle because the story differs greatly and is often more developed
than the other Gospels. Comparing John 2 to the Gospel of Mark will depict unique themes and
characteristics of Jesus. Jesus performs many miracles throughout the Gospels. Comparing how he
presents these wonders among different books can help display the author's themes and goals in
these Gospels. Jesus' first miracle, turning water into wine, is only mentioned in the book of John.
This story is called "The Wedding at Cana" (John 2:1–12). Jesus and his disciples attend a wedding
and Jesus' mother is concerned that there is no wine left. He asks the servants to fill their jars with
water, but when the steward tasted the water it had become wine. Another interesting miracle story
is Jesus walking on water (Mark 6:45–52). In this story, Jesus' disciples leave on a boat, while he
stays back to pray. He then walks on water towards their boat, and the disciples were afraid when
they saw him. Each of these stories involve water and display Jesus' great power, but their
differences are even more significant. John's story

The Gospel of John
The genius of the Apostle John resides in his ability to penetrate to the theological foundations that
undergird the events of Jesus' life. He reaches to the deeper baptism and the calling of the Twelve

have almost disappeared: in particular, the kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven, so much a
part of the preaching of Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels and the central theme of His narrative
parables, is scarcely mentioned as such (cf. 3:3, 5; 18:36). meaning of the events, to the

Introduction
Second, John includes a fair amount of material of which the Synoptists make no mention. All of the
material in John chapters 2 thru 4, for instance, including His miraculous transformation of water
into wine, His dialogue with Nicodemus and His ministry in Samaria, find no Synoptic counterpart.
Further, the resurrection of
Lazarus, Jesus' frequent visits to Jerusalem, and His extended dialogues or dis–courses in the
Temple and in various synagogues, not to mention much of His private instruction to His disciples,
are all exclusive to the Fourth Gospel.
No less striking are the forcefully presented themes that dominate John but that are largely absent
from the Synoptics. Only in John is Jesus explicitly identified with
God (1:1, 18; 20:28). Here, too, Jesus makes a series of important "I am" statements which are
qualified: I am the light of the world, the resurrection and the life, the good shepherd, the vine, the
living water, the way, the truth and the life. These culminate in a series of absolute (unqualified) "I
AM" statements that are redolent of God
Himself (cf. 6:20; 8:24, 28, 58).

The Seven Miracles Of The Gospel Of John
There were seven Miracles which varied from the other three Synoptic Gospels when reading the
Gospel of John. Jesus was not ready to perform these miracles, for he felt as if his time hadn't come
yet. Jesus first chose all his disciples then began spreading the words of his Father, God, among
them and his followers along several visits to Jerusalem.
In Cana, the first miracle was performed when Jesus was invited to attend a wedding banquet. The
servants ran out of wine and Jesus was approached by Mary who requested that Jesus turned water
into wine. Jesus had them fill empty jars with water then he prayed to God the Father and the water
was turned into wine. Jesus told the servants to take the wine to the
Master of the banquet, where he had said that they saved their best wine for last. This was the first
miracle Jesus performed.
While on their way, Jesus and his disciples were approached by an Official who heard what Jesus
had done. He asked Jesus to go with him and help his dying son, but he did not go. Jesus told the
Official that his son would live. The man left Jesus and was on his way back home when he was
approached by his servants who told him that his son was well. The Official asked the servants what
time it was when they found out of this and the Official proclaimed that he and his Family are
believers because this was the time he was with Jesus. This was Jesus' second miracle.

The Gospel Of John Analysis
The Gospel of John, as a way for the Church of today to "reshape" the understanding and condition
of salvation: applauds the Gospel of John as the Doctrine of Salvation in Bings' paper. Bing breaks
down the gospel of John into a foundational belief system as "the justification through faith in
Christ: Salvation by grace through faith:"

Bing shows the concise distinction in Christ as the divine son, that you may believe to have eternal
life in chapters 10–17. He also shows: Johns purpose as it was written: the clear, consistent and

explains what is not present in John; "qualifiers as he calls them, i.e. truly, really, genuine, real, or
effectual." One either believes or one does not.

John And The Gospel Of John
Here are the three insights that I discovered when reading our textbook and the book of John. My
first insight: The fact that critical Scholars question if John who wrote the fourth Gospel was John
the son of Zebedee. Although the early church fathers believed that the original disciple John was in
fact the same John who wrote the Gospel and that view still remains today (pg,109). One of the
saints known by the name Irenaeus, who was an early Church Father and apologist, was one of
many that supported the fact that John the disciple was the writer of the Gospel. The second insight
was that John ensured that we looked more closely at Jesus' human nature. John wrote about Him
more as human, such examples are like, "After this He went down to

Difference Between Gospel Of John And Synoptic Gospels
Difference between Gospel of John and Synoptic Gospels
The gospel of John does not have the birth story of Jesus as it is documented in the Synoptic gospels
instead refers Christ as eternal word which became flesh. Gospel of John lacks records of Jesus'
Baptism by John the Baptist but instead records his baptism activities hence contradicting role of
John the Baptist in Jesus' Baptism. Another difference of gospel of John from the synoptic gospels is
that there is no indication of temptation of Jesus by Satan but records that Jesus could not be
tempted because of his unity with the Father. John indicates that Jesus taught without parables
something contradicts synoptic gospels. There is no accounts of apocalypse in the gospel of John but
instead indicates that Jesus completed his messianic role (Harris, 2014).
Additionally, John indicates most of Jesus works in Galilee and Jerusalem while synoptic gospels
place it in Galilee and Judea. Jesus' teachings in the four gospels were mainly in parables and there
is account of Jesus speaking with any figure. In contrast gospel of John accounts that Jesus used
philosophical speeches in his teachings and interacted with figures like Nicodemus. Another event

The Gospels Of Mark, Luke, And John
The Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John all wrote about Jesus differently because of when
they were written. The Gospel of Mark, written during 70 CE, portrayed Jesus as a suffering servant,
apocalyptic preacher, and miracle worker (Frigge, 163). Mark was written when the second temple
had fallen, and the Romans were in complete control. Seen as being closely related to Saint Paul,
Mark was assumed to have lived to see when Nero persecuted the Christians, especially the disciples
Paul, Peter, and James (Frigge, 163). With Mark's gospel, he wrote about not only Jesus's passion
story and death but also, the miracles he performed and the way he interacted with his disciples
(Frigge, 164). Mark wrote Jesus as the authoritative son of God

An Introduction to the Gospel of John The Gospel of John is believed to be the last of the four
Gospels in the New Testament to be written. While the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are
similar in their common view, the book of John is distinct. In contrast, none of the parables are
recorded in John, and only seven of the miracles are featured. Instead, John delivers the meaning of
Jesus by giving the readers a deeper insight and a deeper understanding of Him. He establishes that
Jesus Christ is the Jewish Messiah that was prophesized in the Old Testament, who was sent to earth
by God in human flesh, gives his life on the cross, and then returns to the Father – all with the view
that we may believe in him and receive eternal life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5. Walking on water: the Lord transforms fear to faith (6:16–21); 6. Sight to the man born blind:

people from death to life (11:1–44)" (Wilkinson & Boa, 1983, p. 339).
Major Theme The main theme of the Gospel of John is straightforward: The way to the Kingdom of
God is not by doing good works; it is by being born of God. The key to being born again is
"believing". This means to believe with the whole person, not just mentally. According to Gaebelein
(1981), the word "believe" is used ninety–eight times in the Gospel of John, which is more than any
other key word in the Gospel. John makes it clear that men are born "of God" and they can be born
in no other way. This new birth is a miracle in itself and is a gift of God, only obtainable through
belief. Key verses in the Gospel that signify this theme are: * "He came to his own, and his own
people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his

The Gospel Of John Resurrection
Whether to consider the resurrection as one of the "signs" of the Gospel requires much
consideration. Initially, we must remember in accordance with (Towns 2002) that the Gospel of John
"employs the word sémeion, signifying a sign, to point out the spiritual significance, which is in
accordance with that of the other eight miracles." For that reason, to exploit this definition would be
wise in establishing our judgment on whether the characteristics of the resurrection fall under the
eight sign category. Moreover, the resurrection of Jesus is a manifestation of the Glory of God, by
Him being both spirit and flesh, later confirmed by His illustrations to "doubting Thomas" of his
crucifixion lesions as recorded by (Towns 2002). Furthermore, there

Religion In The Gospel Of John
The Gospel of John begins with a profound and beautiful prologue that makes huge claims about
who Jesus is and his cosmic significance. This prologue also gives us a significance revelation that
John wants to visualize through his writing. There are ten theological truths that John introduced in
this important text:
– The pre–existence of the Word: I think the key phrases here are "In the beginning" and "before the
world began" (1:1–2; see also 17:5)
– God/Father and the Word/Son as distinctive but yet one (1:1; 17:21–22)
– Jesus as God: the truth that "the Word was God," and Thomas expression after he saw Jesus "My
Lord and my God" shows that Jesus is God. (1:1, 18; 20:28)
– Everything exists because of Him (1:3): John's prologue described the fullness character of
Christ's work. In 1:3, we can see the expansion of the activity of the Word in creation. Through Him
all things were made. This important revelation reminds me to Colossians 1:16, "For in him all
things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers
or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him." Nothing in this world
exists that's not because of Him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I found the Gospel of John was a higher level of philosophy compared to the Gospel of Mark. I
understood the baseline story without having to reread it and right away knew this gospel was
intended to show more of the potential of Jesus Christ and his way to express the Word of God. John
conveys Jesus as a leader who uses metaphors in explaining to the disciples the idea of Jesus Christ.
Different metaphors are used in this gospel, yet the one that sticks out the most is lightness and

Another way John portrays Jesus is the symbol of the Lamb which is a sign of purity. The Lamb
represents sacrifice in which Jesus is preparing his sacrifice for the world. Even with knowing the
result, Jesus continues on his journey as the Lamb of God, going forth into the world and preparing
the path for others, explaining, showing the possibility of an eternal afterlife . I found the Gospel of
John more emotionally charged because of how he represents Jesus as a sacrifice for the sins of the
world, which has no choice in accepting and following till the end. By having such a heavy burden
to carry, Jesus still manages to help society understand the reasons behind the sacrifice. Towards the
end of the Gospel of John, he describes the process of captivating the memory and teachings of
Jesus for when he passes away. This idea can be interpreted as Jesus is a shadow of his former self, a
lingering presence which I compared to a view planted like a seed . By explaining to his disciples
his death, he mentions his appearance is always with them, John 14:18 "In a little while the world

one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one's life for his
friends" (New King James Version, John. 15. 12–13). In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus later
demonstrates his love for humanity by undergoing severe punishment and ultimately dying on the
cross for the sins of human beings. Ironically, human beings are the ones who subjected Jesus to the
punishment of death. Luke uses a narrative literary form to tell the story of the events following the

23: 34). God sacrificing His only son's life for people proves that God loves His people. In relation
to Jesus' statement in John 15:12–13; the greatest love, the crucifixion of Jesus shows that Jesus
loves human beings and regard them as friends. The crucifixion is significant in that it represents the
importance of forgiveness and second chances. By having Jesus die on the cross, God offered
humanity a second chance to live a holy life. Living a holy life means forgiving those who

Divinity In The Gospel Of John

  • 1. Divinity In The Gospel Of John Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus continued to get himself into trouble with Jewish leaders and authorities, bringing heavy persecution upon himself. The root of these misunderstandings was his self–proclaimed connection to God, a level of divinity that the religious leaders could not comprehend. Throughout this paper, the deity or divinity of Jesus (during his short tenure on earth) will be demonstrated, through proof that Jesus certainly did claim to be God, both indirectly and directly throughout the Gospel of John, and deal with the direct sayings and teachings of Jesus, as recorded by His apostle John. God is everything that we know currently and what the Jews knew in their time period; He is life itself. This is where the Jewish leaders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Gospel Of John Research Paper There are many significant differences between gospel of John compared to the the synoptic gospels. The way Jesus was portrayed in John is the main distinction. There are stories that only appear in John that do not appear in the other gospels. These stories give an idea of Jesus as the "special" one. Four of the seven signs in the gospels were only mentioned in John. Jesus is portrayed as the "Holy One of God" compared to the other gospels. There are many details that can be drawn from the events that are only recorded in the gospel of John. The gospel of John shows what miracles that have been left out, the response that Jesus made to Peter's confession, how Jesus was viewed, and the order of which John was written in comparison to the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It it said that he preformed seven miracles. However, John is the only gospel that has all of the miracles written in its book. The four miracles that Jesus preformed that are not listed in the other gospels are the healing of a royal official son, the healing of a blind man from birth, the healing of a paralyze man, and the raising of Lazarus from the dead. This shows the significant differences between John and the other three gospels because of more events and details that are being told about Jesus in his time of living. This is something a person will be about to point out because of the amount of events are brought up. A person would think that Jesus fits the description that Peter describe in John 6:69 as the "Holy One of God". The book of John is the only gospel that included all of the miracles that Jesus preformed. This has significance to it because of what the miracles were and when they are told. This is importance in portraying who Jesus was in John. The main reason is if Jesus preformed all these miracles, then one can easily see who Jesus was in his time of living. One can also get an understanding of why Jesus was consider the "Holy" one and the "Son of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on Analysis of the Gospel of John Analysis of the Gospel of John The Gospel of John, the last of the four gospels in the Bible, is a radical departure from the simple style of the synoptic gospels. It is the only one that does not use parables as a way of showing how Jesus taught, and is the only account of several events, including the raising of Lazarus and Jesus turning water into wine. While essentially the gospel is written anonymously, many scholars believe that it was written by the apostle John sometime between the years 85 and 95 CE in Ephesus. The basic story is that of a testimonial of one of the Apostles and his version of Jesus' ministry. It begins by telling of the divine origins of the birth of Jesus, then goes on to prove that He is the Son of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With phrases like "We beheld His glory" (1:14) and knowing the number of pots at the wedding at Cana (Malick, 1996), it is well supported that this is an eyewitness account of the event, even though some scholars place the authorship of John as late as 270 BCE. Most of the evidence that points to the "eyewitness account" theory are minor details that would be left out had the author not actually been there. Such details include specific numbers (six water jars [2:6], 100 miles [6:19], 153 fish [21:11] [Malick, 1996]) and names that would normally have been forgotten such as Nicodemus, Lazarus (as can be noted from the lack of his story in the synoptic gospels) and Beth– zatha. It is also interesting to note that even though John makes it very clear that the author is Jewish, the Gospel is written primarily for a Greek audience. Because of his knowledge of the Old Testament, which he continually quotes, his understanding of Jewish ritual and culture and he knew and understood the prophesy of the coming Messiah, there is no doubt that either John was Jewish himself or he studied Judaism very well. However, the lack of concern for proving the prophecies set down in the Book of Isaiah supports evidence that this was not a testimony to a Jewish audience. Throughout the gospel, Jesus is shown as being both fully God and fully human, a concept that is more synonymous with Greek culture. Also, the very beginning of John states that Jesus was with God ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Gospel Of Luke And John The gospel of Luke and John are gospels about Jesus and John the Baptist. They have several differences and similarities. The Gospel of Luke describes the conception and birth of John the Baptist and Jesus while the gospel of Luke describes their life after birth. Summaries, variances, and connections of these two gospels are discussed below. The Gospel of Luke focuses on the conception and the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus. It also provides the histories of Elizabeth and Zachariah. It also describes Angel Gabriel's announcement to Zachariah and the Virgin Mary. In the first four verses, Luke gives a short but valuable outline about the nature of the gospel. He says he want to declare those things that are most assuredly believed ... He was also to prepare people for the coming of the Lord. Elizabeth conceives, and she hides for five months glorifying God for enabling her to conceive. God sends angel Gabriel after six months to a virgin called Mary in the city of Nazareth. The angel tells her to rejoice since she was highly favored and would bear a son named Jesus. The son will be great and will be called the Son of the Highest and God will give him the throne of David. He will also reign over Jacob's house forever. Mary, just like Zachariah doubts the angel's words since she didn't know a man. The angel tells her that she will conceive of the Holy Spirit and Jesus will be called the Son of God. He tells her that her relative is also pregnant for with God nothing is impossible. Mary says that she is a servant of God and he could do whatever he wished with her. Mary visits Elizabeth, and they both celebrate their blessings. Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Spirit and asks why she was granted that privilege that the mother of her Lord should visit her. She also says that as soon as Mary greeted her, the babe leaped in her womb in joy. She also calls Mary a happy woman for those things that were told to her will be fulfilled because of her faith. • 9. Authorship In The Gospel Of John The Gospel of John stands out as one who has been appointed by God who testifies about the life and ministry of Jesus. The study of John allows one to see the Jesus as our entry way for salvation. The authorship of John allows one to understand Jesus by an actual and reliable witness to the origins of Jesus ministry, death and resurrection. This extraordinary piece of work is also reflected by the early church fathers. The attempt of this paper will assert that the evidence for authorship of John is more convincing that discrediting. Authorship The gospel of john has not seen the last of debates as to the authenticity of authorship, date and location. There does not seem to be a compelling argument why we should not discount Johannine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, evidence should be viewed by the author and his statements. Most statements with the epistle itself does suggest that the individual was an eye witness to the many acclamation of the mission of Jesus1 John 1:1–4). Other such evidence will be viewed by the early church tradition and fathers who will provide both external and internal support for the conclusion. "By the close of the first century, the apostles were clearly called "presbyters" or "Elders." Eusebius quotes Papias who refers to an "Elder John and this reveals that there is no reason not to designate the author of the epistles by his traditional name, John."[3] Charles Freeman sees that the role of the controversies is plagued by the birth of what was a new "religion from its birth in Judaea in the first century A.D." [4] One question that circulates is why not John signed his name. It is a very logical to assume that the Gospel's message not the identity was most relevant. According to R. Alan Culpepper, "the influence of the Gospel of John on Christian theology–can hardly be measured, its popularity and john was esteemed by the church. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Jesus In The Gospel Of John In the Gospel of John, John is portraying God and Jesus, as more than just a man who came into existence, He is God. Jesus meets with a man named Nicodemus and informed him that nobody can go to heaven unless they have been "Born–Again". Throughout these reading Jesus claims to be God himself. He states that he is the resurrection and the life. The last 24 hours of Jesus' life was discussed in chapters 13–17, from the Last Supper to the burial death and resurrection of Christ. Jesus resurrected and rose from the dead and appeared to Mary Magdalene and his disciples. • 13. Gospel Of John Research Paper The Gospel of John is amazing and unique in its own way. There's a lot of different controversies that arises to the surface because of the differences between John and the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke). There are differences in stories, themes, writing styles, and so on. It's like hearing 4 different people tell the same story. You will always get something different; different answers, details, etc. John has helped to form a lot of what modern day Christians now believe. I don't know where we would be without the Gospel of John, no matter how different and unique from the Synoptics. John is very different from the Synoptic Gospels. In our text, it actually says, "John differs from the three canonical Gospels so dramatically that they are called Synoptic Gospels ('Seeing alike'), whereas John is unique." (Works Cited 4). You would have to be blind to not realize how entirely different John is from the Synoptics. The textbook, "The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is actually, more evidence against John's knowing about the Synoptics at the time. If John did know about the other Gospels, he did not use them as his independent source. There's not enough evidence to even say that John knew about them, let alone that he used them as his independent sources, or sources at all for that matter. "The differences are so great that John can hardly have drawn on the Synoptics as a major source for his material. John clearly relies on an Independent source of tradition for his Gospel, one that he attributes to the Beloved Disciple" (Works Cited 4). Everything that is written in the Gospel of John is entirely too different. The way Jesus talks is different (as I stated earlier), the stories that are noted are different stories, there aren't any parables, the general theme is different, the description of Jesus, His identity, His ministry, and so much ... Gospel of John Essay Gospel of John This essay will show contrasts in views on the Gospel of John regarding authorship, dates, and the relationship between John's Gospel and the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Some comparison of thought, concerning composition and life setting, will also be presented. The majority of the information that we have today, describing the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ, is contained in the four Gospels. The Gospels of Mathew, Mark and Luke, are called the Synoptic Gospels. The Gospel of John differs in many key areas to the Synoptics, and I will address some differing lines of thought. But since this figure became important in Johannine community history (perhaps founder of the community), he became the ideal in its gospel picture, capable of being contrasted with Peter, as closer to Jesus in love." Andreas J. Kostenberger on the other hand, says in his introduction "Very possibly written by John the apostle as the culmination of his long life and ministry( critical and postmodern objections the Gospel's apostolic authorship notwithstanding)..." Kostenbergers feelings on this matter of authorship are indicated in the emotive " Despite the massive assault on John's trustworthiness in the wake of the Enlightenment, especially by liberal German scholars, John's Gospel stands today widely rehabilitated as a reliable witness to the life, words and deeds of our Lord Jesus Christ." Kostenberger does attempt to "balance" things a little by later stating " As to authorship, all options, including apostolic authorship, must remain on the table, without undue dogmatism on all sides." A little further on Kostenberger writes " Althought the hypothesis of the apostolic authorship of the Fourth Gospel is regularly rejected in recent Johannine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was qualified to write a book in the Bible because he held an "eyewitness testimony" of Jesus' life and ministry and states so in his gospel (Strauss, 2011, 9083). John "provides many incidental details one would expect only from an eyewitness (2: 6; 5: 5; 18: 10, 15 – 16; 21: 11), is familiar with predestruction Jerusalem (5: 3; 9: 7; 10: 23; 18: 28; cf. 4: 5 – 6), and knows the traditions and customs of Palestinian Judaism (2: 6, 23; 6: 4; 7: 2, 37 – 39; 10: 22; 19: 14, 31)" (Strauss, 2011, 9083). John holds a great concern for detail specifically in his chronology unlike the Synoptics, truly speaking to his qualifications to write a biblical book (Strauss, 2011, 9083). 2. What is the main theme of the Book of John, and how does it differ from the other Gospels? 1. The central theme of the Book of John is "Jesus is the divine Son of God who reveals the Father, providing eternal life to all who believe in him" (Strauss, 2011, 6749). John highly emphasizes Jesus' identity by providing extensive reports of Jesus' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main message of this gospel account is "Jesus is the Son who reveals His Father" to the world (Strauss, 2011, p. 7448). Thus, Jesus "shares God's attributes" because he too has created all things, the ultimate giver, lover, "final judge" and "sustainer of life" (Strauss, 2011, p. 7448). John attempts to show readers that Jesus and God, the Father and Son are one and operate in completeness and certain unity (Strauss, 2011, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Gospels Of Christian Beliefs In The Gospel Of John The Gospel of John reflects a Christian tradition that is different from that of the other gospels. Many individuals and groups within the early Christian movement rejected it as heresy. However, it was ultimately accepted into the official canon, over many objections. It is now the favorite gospel of many conservative Christians, and the gospel least referred to by many liberal Christians. The Gospel of John is noticeably different from the other three Gospels in content, and the structure of the content. The first chapter of John is very similar to the beginning of the Book of Genesis, where it talks about the beginning of the world and creation. Another difference between the Gospel of John and the other Synoptics is the lack of a certain miracle Jesus performed found in the book. Unlike the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, John has no record of Jesus performing exorcisms. While John does talk about healing the sick and blind, nowhere in the Gospel do we find Jesus exorcising demons. One of the main talking points within the Gospels is the ministry of Jesus. From what we can determine, upon reading the four Gospels, we can see that of the four, John tells us Jesus' ministry lasted longer than a year. According to John, the span of Jesus' ministry lasted three years instead of one year (as depicted by the other three Synoptics). Unlike Matthew, Mark, and Luke, John primarily emphasized Jesus' divinity instead of humanity. A verse that supports John's focus of divinity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before reading the book of John it important to know the main focus and intentions of the book which is that the Gospel is primarily focused on the life of Jesus and its main objective is to prove that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. As Russel puts it by reading the Gospel, readers can discover the charactersists of Jesus and learn about his teachings that serve as an outstanding model for all Christians who seek spiritual growth. His character is shown through his loving and caring heart for his apostles and his death which he foretold to the people proves that he is the Messiah who would indeed come to die for the all of our sins. This passage solely fits in the immediate context along with the exegesis of the time period approximately around A.D. 80 and 95. Due to the miracles and teachings that Jesus was performing for mass crowds and attracting many of the jews in the surrounding communities of which included often high up people in the ranks. Because of this interest people exhibited in wanting to listen and find Jesus daily the Pharisees began to grow annoyed and frustrated, they came to the general consensus that the only thing left to do would be to arrest Jesus. However, due to the enormous crowds Jesus was beginning to form from his teachings the Pharisees were unable to arrest him at the time. From the teachings and miracles that Jesus did it attracted not only Jews from surrounding areas but also many people from ethnic backgrounds all which came to see Jesus in Jerusalem, Jesus spoke to the people about the hour of glorification: his own death. However, when Jesus preached of the hour of glorification the apostles became more aware that Jesus would be going to a place physically unreachable, this took a mental toll on them all once again in the form of discouraged and abandonment. • 28. The Gospel Of John And Light The Gospel of John and Light. In the Gospel of John we see in the first four verses that he makes a very powerful statement linking the Word, God, Life and the Light as all being one, a person. He does this by saying, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race." (JN 1:1–4). Jesus is the light that is spoken about in the first chapter of the Gospel of John. Without this light we are lost, but if we follow the light we will be saved from our evil ways and have hope. In these first four verses of the Gospel of John we see that the Word was God and brought forth life through himself "and this life was the light of the human race." (JN 1:4). Let's skip forward a few verses in the first chapter and we see that there was a major event that took place on the earth. "And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth." (JN 1:14). This most worthy event was the birth of the God Man, the Son of God, the Word made flesh and who is the Word, none other than the God the Light. In this way we see that God is the Word, the Word is the creator of life and the life from the Word is the Light of the human race. This light then become flesh and takes up dwelling with us, ... • 30. Comparing John And The Gospel Of John Gospel's Analysis In the faith of Christianity, their are four distinct disciples of gospel accounts. Each of the four gospels has its own unique contribution to shaping a precise picture of Jesus. Scholars have contributed a great deal to the understanding of the circumstances of their writing, along with the intentions of their authors. Their are two groups to which the gospels are separated by. The synoptic gospels and the gospel of John. Their are critical differences between these two groups when comparing the historical aspects. They are all differentiated by very tiny detail, but all of them tend to show prove how one was used to write the other. First will be the differences between the two groups. Second will be the the similarities between the synoptic gospels and the gospel of John. One of the differences is the literary point of views they are written in. The synoptics are written from a third person point of view, describing the events as if the authors had personally observed all of them and were reporting what they saw at the time. They are extremely descriptive in their approach. John's Gospel, on the other hand, although also written from a third person point of view, is more reflective in a way, clearly later than the events he describes. The author of the Fourth Gospel very carefully separates himself from the events he describes. • 32. Differences Of The Three Synoptic Gospels And The Gospel... Christianism is shown these days to be a religion along with other sub–religions. There is wide array of different beliefs and views about the same divinities, such as God and Jesus. There are many religions like Protestantism, Catholicism, Evangelism, Jehovah's Witness and many more with different perspectives about Jesus in the New Testament. Many questions come into our mind when it comes to Jesus, such as: who is he? Is he really human or divine? Which Gospel is actually telling us the truth? In fact, even the gospels in the New Testament have many different perspectives about Jesus Christ. To be precise, the first four gospels from the New Testament, which are the three Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John have many differences among each other with their portrayal of Jesus. In the following paragraphs, I will be exploring in depth these differences by describing how these texts describes Jesus' deeds, message and his title of who he is. First of all, the gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke are known to be the Synoptic Gospels. The word "Synoptic" means "seen together" (Ehrman, p.121). In other words, these gospels all have common stories that are often really similar from one another (Ehrman, p.121). The Gospel of John is not considered as a Synoptic, since it's not near having common story patterns and repetitions like them, it is considered as distinctive and popular Gospel from the New Testament (Ehrman, p.169). • 34. The Gospel Of John And The Writing Of His Gospel Reading through the Gospel of John can bring up many questions about the fourth canonical book and the writing of his gospel. Some of those questions have answers and some do not. In this essay we will take a look at some of them that has biblical answers. The first question is did John write the gospel bearing his name? Second, who was the audience that he was writing to? Third, what was the purpose of John writing the gospel? Did John write the gospel bearing his name? In the gospel of John it never provides the name of the author. There are no other indications in the bible either. There are two important factors that tell us that John is the author. In the Gospel of John it identifies the author as the disciple whom Jesus loved. This likely pointed to John and there are three reasons. First, John was one of the twelve disciples, he was a witness of the actual events (John 21:14). He was part of the inner circle of the disciples because Mary told him first of the resurrection (John 20:1–10). John was distinguished from others in the book. The Gospel of John was discovered around AD 135. However, some scholars think that it was written (AD 70) when Jerusalem was destroyed. This writer believes that AD 85–90 is the more accepted time for the writing of the Gospel of John. Who was the audience that he was writing to? John was writing to the church, I believe that he was also writing to the people who did not believe. John focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Essay on Belief in the Gospel of John In the Gospel of John, to "believe" entails trusting Jesus, as he is the Son of the Father and that there are just consequences and rewards of belief in him. Just discovers how "belief in" Jesus involves a level of trust that incorporates him as part of a "tented" family. This belief can be rewarded with eternal life, as well as a personal connection to Jesus Christ. In John's Gospel, Jesus is the "Son of God" (John 1:34) and he is the key to eternal life in heaven. John provides the readers of his gospel with a distinct perspective of "belief" in his writings. In the passage, "But many of the crowd began to believe in him, and said, 'When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs than this man has done?'" (John 7:31). Trust in Jesus ... In the Gospel of John "belief" in Jesus is using a reward as an incentive. Jesus says, "'Whoever believes in me... were to receive'" (John 7:38–39), It can be inferred that anyone who wants eternal life can have it but they must believe in him and trust that when he comes he will "[have] 'living water' flow out of one's heart"(Just). In this passage "belief" in Jesus has a reward of eternal life that is received after steadfast belief in the Lord. Eternal life is a moral transformation must be accepted within the presence of God. There are also consequences to everlasting life such as no chance for resurrection. The Gospel of John's perspective depicts Jesus proclaiming "'whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me, and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me'" (John 12:44–45). Jesus is said to be greater than Moses and that he is law and that what he does is right. In this passage Jesus proclaims that belief in him also involves belief in the one who sent him, God. Jesus also says that anyone who sees him can also see the one who sent him. What evidence exists in the Gospel of John to support Ernst Käsemann's insight that the Johannine Jesus is like a "god striding over the earth"? John presents a very different Jesus compared to the synoptic gospels. It is clear that for John Jesus has many complex elements to his personality and without all of these the picture is not complete. The above quote by Käsemann suggests that in the gospel of John Jesus' divinity is definite and his presence is felt on the entire world through his words and actions. This allows for the human Jesus but implies the divine Jesus is imperative. The divinity of Jesus Christ is something that is very apparent in the gospel of John. Käsemann's quote ... It is interesting to see the context and time when Jesus says this, and to see the relationship between him and his Father. I have always had a found liking to this particular passage as I grew up on an apple orchard, and was very acutely aware of the process of pruning branches at a young age. The concept of pruning away or cleaning the branches in order to bear much fruit is something that I related to very easily throughout my life. Reading the surrounding verses, Jesus is talking and walking with his disciples when he spoke this statement. Many theologians agree that this discourse took place right after the Passover meal: "The fruit of which he had been just speaking of at supper with his disciples; and then informs them, that he himself is the vine from whence that fruit must be expected, which should be partook of by them in his Father's kingdom..." There are many different reasons given as to why Jesus uses this analogy at this particular time but is simply most likely because vines were something very common in the city. "The grapevine was a common sight in Israel. In fact, vineyards were so plenteous that the vine became the national symbol of Israel". This statement by Jesus is also coming at a time when His arrest and death are nearing. This statement is sandwiched right in between Jesus' promise of the Holy Spirit to his disciples, and His ... Even to this day it is preached to respect one's elders, in every form they come in. In this time, it was the teacher who got his feet washed by his disciples. In the text, it is in fact Jesus, the teacher, who washes the feet of his disciples, the followers. He did the work that was usually accomplished by the lowest person in the social hierarchy. It was the servant who washed the feet of his master or his master's guest. Since it is shown that the teacher performing the actions of the lowest servant it shows the John was showing that work of a disciple should include actions that can sometimes be perceived as below them. It shows that in fact no action is beneath a disciple, because his job is not to just serve the higher ups, but also people who have nothing. It was a disciple's job to serve all, without bias as a forethought in their mind and heart. Selfless love is an action of serving that is very connected to humility. John shows that in loving Christ you must also learn to love others above yourself, which and value to humility because now there is this idea of undying love through servitude and humility. Whereas some of Jesus' miracles could be explainable in a modern context–such as various forms of blindness being curable by certain medicines or outpatient procedures–there has never been a proven instance of a man rising after being dead for two days. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus' directness in proclaiming himself divine, and that he is to be devoutly followed, is one of the key themes that make the Gospel of John and the account of Lazarus' resurrection comparatively unique. The resurrection of Lazarus is situated in the Gospel of John after the accounts of Jesus' public ministry and just before he is crucified and resurrected. As such, it provides a dramatic and pivotal narrative function of illustrating one of the greatest of Jesus' benevolent, supernatural feats (resurrection) just before his own death and resurrection, with Jesus proclaiming that all who believe in Him will similarly be resurrected in the form of eternal life (John 11:25–26). Moreover, Jesus doesn't just resurrect Lazarus, he does so in dramatic fashion, in front of a crowd: "he cried with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come out'" (John 11:43), revealing the resurrected man from inside a cave, perhaps as a magician would reveal a healthy, intact subject who had previously been seen sawed in ... It begins, not at Jesus' birth, not at the time of the prophets, not even at Adam, but in the very beginning, before there was anything. Anything, that is, except God and the Word who was God. John introduces this Word as the light and the life and the creator of everything. And yet his own creation did not know him. At this point, the man whom Jesus called the greatest prophet of all (Luke 7:28) is introduced: John the Baptist. He came to wake the world up to see their creator that had come to them. Truly, he came to "prepare the way of the Lord" (Isaiah 40:3), a light to testify of the Light that was even already come. The Gospel Of John And Mark Position Paper 2: Jesus in the Gospel of John and Mark All of the Gospels describe the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, but each author illustrates the stories differently. Scholars believe Mark is the first Gospel written and is symbolized by a lion to denote Christ as powerful and fast–paced. The Book of John, understood to be the last gospel composed, is perceived as an eagle because the story differs greatly and is often more developed than the other Gospels. Comparing John 2 to the Gospel of Mark will depict unique themes and characteristics of Jesus. Jesus performs many miracles throughout the Gospels. Comparing how he presents these wonders among different books can help display the author's themes and goals in these Gospels. Jesus' first miracle, turning water into wine, is only mentioned in the book of John. This story is called "The Wedding at Cana" (John 2:1–12). Jesus and his disciples attend a wedding and Jesus' mother is concerned that there is no wine left. He asks the servants to fill their jars with water, but when the steward tasted the water it had become wine. Another interesting miracle story is Jesus walking on water (Mark 6:45–52). In this story, Jesus' disciples leave on a boat, while he stays back to pray. He then walks on water towards their boat, and the disciples were afraid when they saw him. Even themes central to the Synoptics have almost disappeared: in particular, the kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven, so much a part of the preaching of Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels and the central theme of His narrative parables, is scarcely mentioned as such (cf. 3:3, 5; 18:36). meaning of the events, to the relationships of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the work of redemption, and to the Trinitarian love for humanity which ... There are fewer brief, pithy utterances, but more discourses; but even here some major discourses found in the Synoptics (e.g. the Olivet Discourse) are not found in John. Although Jesus'.Page 2 Introduction Second, John includes a fair amount of material of which the Synoptists make no mention. All of the material in John chapters 2 thru 4, for instance, including His miraculous transformation of water into wine, His dialogue with Nicodemus and His ministry in Samaria, find no Synoptic counterpart. Further, the resurrection of Lazarus, Jesus' frequent visits to Jerusalem, and His extended dialogues or dis–courses in the Temple and in various synagogues, not to mention much of His private instruction to His disciples, are all exclusive to the Fourth Gospel. No less striking are the forcefully presented themes that dominate John but that are largely absent from the Synoptics. Only in John is Jesus explicitly identified with God (1:1, 18; 20:28). Here, too, Jesus makes a series of important "I am" statements which are qualified: I am the light of the world, the resurrection and the life, the good shepherd, the vine, the living water, the way, the truth and the life. These culminate in a series of absolute (unqualified) "I AM" statements that are redolent of God Himself (cf. 6:20; 8:24, 28, 58). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. The Seven Miracles Of The Gospel Of John There were seven Miracles which varied from the other three Synoptic Gospels when reading the Gospel of John. Jesus was not ready to perform these miracles, for he felt as if his time hadn't come yet. Jesus first chose all his disciples then began spreading the words of his Father, God, among them and his followers along several visits to Jerusalem. In Cana, the first miracle was performed when Jesus was invited to attend a wedding banquet. The servants ran out of wine and Jesus was approached by Mary who requested that Jesus turned water into wine. Jesus had them fill empty jars with water then he prayed to God the Father and the water was turned into wine. Jesus told the servants to take the wine to the Master of the banquet, where he had said that they saved their best wine for last. This was the first miracle Jesus performed. While on their way, Jesus and his disciples were approached by an Official who heard what Jesus had done. He asked Jesus to go with him and help his dying son, but he did not go. Jesus told the Official that his son would live. The man left Jesus and was on his way back home when he was approached by his servants who told him that his son was well. The Official asked the servants what time it was when they found out of this and the Official proclaimed that he and his Family are believers because this was the time he was with Jesus. This was Jesus' second miracle. Toche 2 While still on his was, Jesus and his disciples stopped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Gospel Of John Analysis The Gospel of John, as a way for the Church of today to "reshape" the understanding and condition of salvation: applauds the Gospel of John as the Doctrine of Salvation in Bings' paper. Bing breaks down the gospel of John into a foundational belief system as "the justification through faith in Christ: Salvation by grace through faith:" Brief Summary Bing gives an in–depth look at "saving faith" and why a defense of believing in Christ is imperative in the foundations of faith alone. One must not only "defend Christ" one must also "defend faith in Christ" In this paper he has taken point on verse by verse stepping stones of what the Doctrine of Salvation is. Not just the bases of metaphorical outcome, but solid exactness that stresses in each aspect Faith and Christ. It is not just the fact of faith and Christ, it is the fact of the loss of faith and salvation in Christ that appears to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bing shows the concise distinction in Christ as the divine son, that you may believe to have eternal life in chapters 10–17. He also shows: Johns purpose as it was written: the clear, consistent and comparative effects of Johns Gospel and what is necessary for each compilation of salvation. He explains what is not present in John; "qualifiers as he calls them, i.e. truly, really, genuine, real, or effectual." One either believes or one does not. There is no in between with salvation and faith according to the way that Bing explains it. Mainly, because there are not any conditions to salvation and faith, and John shows that in his gospel. As Jesus spoke to the woman at the well in John 4, all that was necessary was her "belief that He was Christ the Messiah, the "I Am" (John ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. John And The Gospel Of John Here are the three insights that I discovered when reading our textbook and the book of John. My first insight: The fact that critical Scholars question if John who wrote the fourth Gospel was John the son of Zebedee. Although the early church fathers believed that the original disciple John was in fact the same John who wrote the Gospel and that view still remains today (pg,109). One of the saints known by the name Irenaeus, who was an early Church Father and apologist, was one of many that supported the fact that John the disciple was the writer of the Gospel. The second insight was that John ensured that we looked more closely at Jesus' human nature. John wrote about Him more as human, such examples are like, "After this He went down to ... • 66. Difference Between Gospel Of John And Synoptic Gospels Difference between Gospel of John and Synoptic Gospels The gospel of John does not have the birth story of Jesus as it is documented in the Synoptic gospels instead refers Christ as eternal word which became flesh. Gospel of John lacks records of Jesus' Baptism by John the Baptist but instead records his baptism activities hence contradicting role of John the Baptist in Jesus' Baptism. Another difference of gospel of John from the synoptic gospels is that there is no indication of temptation of Jesus by Satan but records that Jesus could not be tempted because of his unity with the Father. John indicates that Jesus taught without parables something contradicts synoptic gospels. There is no accounts of apocalypse in the gospel of John but instead indicates that Jesus completed his messianic role (Harris, 2014). Additionally, John indicates most of Jesus works in Galilee and Jerusalem while synoptic gospels place it in Galilee and Judea. Jesus' teachings in the four gospels were mainly in parables and there is account of Jesus speaking with any figure. In contrast gospel of John accounts that Jesus used philosophical speeches in his teachings and interacted with figures like Nicodemus. Another event that distance gospel of ... It is believed that Jesus performed seven Gospel Signs to prove that he was the messiah. One of the signs that Jesus used happened in Cana in Galilee when he turned water into wine. Jesus was attending a wedding ceremony together with his mother and the twelve disciples. At some point the host announced that they were out of wine and Jesus offered to help by changing 180 gallons of water to vintage wine. • 68. The Gospels Of Mark, Luke, And John The Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John all wrote about Jesus differently because of when they were written. The Gospel of Mark, written during 70 CE, portrayed Jesus as a suffering servant, apocalyptic preacher, and miracle worker (Frigge, 163). Mark was written when the second temple had fallen, and the Romans were in complete control. Seen as being closely related to Saint Paul, Mark was assumed to have lived to see when Nero persecuted the Christians, especially the disciples Paul, Peter, and James (Frigge, 163). With Mark's gospel, he wrote about not only Jesus's passion story and death but also, the miracles he performed and the way he interacted with his disciples (Frigge, 164). • 70. The Gospel of John An Introduction to the Gospel of John The Gospel of John is believed to be the last of the four Gospels in the New Testament to be written. While the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are similar in their common view, the book of John is distinct. In contrast, none of the parables are recorded in John, and only seven of the miracles are featured. Instead, John delivers the meaning of Jesus by giving the readers a deeper insight and a deeper understanding of Him. He establishes that Jesus Christ is the Jewish Messiah that was prophesized in the Old Testament, who was sent to earth by God in human flesh, gives his life on the cross, and then returns to the Father – all with the view that we may believe in him and receive eternal life. ... Healing the nobleman's son: the gospel brings spiritual restoration (4:46–54); 3. Healing the paralytic: weakness is replaced by strength (5:1–16); 4. Feeding the multitude: Christ satisfies spiritual hunger (6:1–13); 5. Walking on water: the Lord transforms fear to faith (6:16–21); 6. Sight to the man born blind: Jesus overcomes darkness and brings in light (9:1–7); 7. Raising of Lazarus: the gospel brings people from death to life (11:1–44)" (Wilkinson & Boa, 1983, p. 339). Major Theme The main theme of the Gospel of John is straightforward: The way to the Kingdom of God is not by doing good works; it is by being born of God. The key to being born again is "believing". This means to believe with the whole person, not just mentally. According to Gaebelein (1981), the word "believe" is used ninety–eight times in the Gospel of John, which is more than any other key word in the Gospel. John makes it clear that men are born "of God" and they can be born in no other way. This new birth is a miracle in itself and is a gift of God, only obtainable through belief. Key verses in the Gospel that signify this theme are: * "He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his ... • 72. The Gospel Of John Resurrection Whether to consider the resurrection as one of the "signs" of the Gospel requires much consideration. Initially, we must remember in accordance with (Towns 2002) that the Gospel of John "employs the word sémeion, signifying a sign, to point out the spiritual significance, which is in accordance with that of the other eight miracles." For that reason, to exploit this definition would be wise in establishing our judgment on whether the characteristics of the resurrection fall under the eight sign category. Moreover, the resurrection of Jesus is a manifestation of the Glory of God, by Him being both spirit and flesh, later confirmed by His illustrations to "doubting Thomas" of his crucifixion lesions as recorded by (Towns 2002). • 74. Religion In The Gospel Of John The Gospel of John begins with a profound and beautiful prologue that makes huge claims about who Jesus is and his cosmic significance. This prologue also gives us a significance revelation that John wants to visualize through his writing. There are ten theological truths that John introduced in this important text: – The pre–existence of the Word: I think the key phrases here are "In the beginning" and "before the world began" (1:1–2; see also 17:5) – God/Father and the Word/Son as distinctive but yet one (1:1; 17:21–22) – Jesus as God: the truth that "the Word was God," and Thomas expression after he saw Jesus "My Lord and my God" shows that Jesus is God. (1:1, 18; 20:28) – Everything exists because of Him (1:3): John's prologue described the fullness character of Christ's work. In 1:3, we can see the expansion of the activity of the Word in creation. Through Him all things were made. This important revelation reminds me to Colossians 1:16, "For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him." Nothing in this world exists that's not because of Him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Light characterizes God's glory, and we can see that when we examine 1:14. • 76. Gospel Of John Research Paper Question:"Consider the figure of Jesus in the Gospel of John, the Gospel of Thomas, or the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. Who or what is Jesus, in the Gospel that you have selected?" I found the Gospel of John was a higher level of philosophy compared to the Gospel of Mark. I understood the baseline story without having to reread it and right away knew this gospel was intended to show more of the potential of Jesus Christ and his way to express the Word of God. John conveys Jesus as a leader who uses metaphors in explaining to the disciples the idea of Jesus Christ. Different metaphors are used in this gospel, yet the one that sticks out the most is lightness and darkness. I found it much simpler to understand the plans of God when reading the gospel of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way John portrays Jesus is the symbol of the Lamb which is a sign of purity. The Lamb represents sacrifice in which Jesus is preparing his sacrifice for the world. Even with knowing the result, Jesus continues on his journey as the Lamb of God, going forth into the world and preparing the path for others, explaining, showing the possibility of an eternal afterlife . I found the Gospel of John more emotionally charged because of how he represents Jesus as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, which has no choice in accepting and following till the end. By having such a heavy burden to carry, Jesus still manages to help society understand the reasons behind the sacrifice. Towards the end of the Gospel of John, he describes the process of captivating the memory and teachings of Jesus for when he passes away. This idea can be interpreted as Jesus is a shadow of his former self, a lingering presence which I compared to a view planted like a seed . By explaining to his disciples his death, he mentions his appearance is always with them, John 14:18 "In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see ... • 78. Crucifixion In The Gospel Of John In the Gospel of John, Jesus spoke to his disciples saying, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one's life for his friends" (New King James Version, John. 15. 12–13). In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus later demonstrates his love for humanity by undergoing severe punishment and ultimately dying on the cross for the sins of human beings. Ironically, human beings are the ones who subjected Jesus to the punishment of death. Luke uses a narrative literary form to tell the story of the events following the crucifixion of Jesus. These events depict the historical practices of the Roman empire, brings to light the shortcomings of human beings, and relate to the rest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 23: 34). God sacrificing His only son's life for people proves that God loves His people. In relation to Jesus' statement in John 15:12–13; the greatest love, the crucifixion of Jesus shows that Jesus loves human beings and regard them as friends. The crucifixion is significant in that it represents the importance of forgiveness and second chances. By having Jesus die on the cross, God offered humanity a second chance to live a holy life. Living a holy life means forgiving those who transgress against us just as God forgave us. Therefore, through crucifixion, God led by example by doing what He requires from ...
