Effectiveness Of A Competitive Advantage
Increasingly, firms find themselves, either by design or circumstances, operating in business
environments fraught with unprecedented, unparalleled, unrelenting, and largely unpredictable
change. Retaining competitive advantage is a constant preoccupation for all companies. Millions of
words have been written purporting to identify the principles and practices most likely to enable
firms to gain competitive advantage and, thereby, enjoy superior profit margins. Despite all this
study, management remains a testing ground where theory, experience, judgment and, sometimes,
luck play a role. According to Glenn (2009), approximately 90 per cent of senior executives who
took a survey by The Economist's Magazine Intelligence Unit understand that their organizations
have to be agile to thrive in the marketplace. According to Merriam–Webster's Collegiate
Dictionary, to be agile is to have a "quick, resourceful and adaptable character" (Agile, 2016).
Agility has classically been defined as simply the ability to change direction rapidly (Bloomfield,
Ackland, & Elliot, 1994; Clarke, 1959; Mathews, 1973), but also the ability to change direction
rapidly and accurately (Barrow & McGee, 1971; Johnson & Nelson, 1969). In more recent
publications, some authors have defined agility to include whole–body change of direction as well
as rapid movement and direction change of limbs (Baechle, 1994; Draper & Lancaster, 1985). Based
on many researches done we can define organizational agility as a

Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages
Programming Languages
Definition of the term "program"
A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or 'executed ', tell a
computer to carry out a task and how to it.
Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs
In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow
the programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These
paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated.
Applications that can be developed using these paradigms
Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step–by–step.
Procedural programming relies on – you guessed it – procedures, also known as routines or
subroutines. A procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural
programming is also referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are
also known as top–down languages.
Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a
program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step–by–step
instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming
languages are all procedural.
The procedural paradigm uses a list of instructions as a basis. These tell the computer what to do,
and how to do it step by step. The procedural paradigm does rely on subroutines or

Scientific Revolution Thomas Kuhn
In Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Kuhn states that a paradigm shift is a
revolutionary event as it causes the rise in a new era of science. A scientific revolution is when an
older paradigm is replaced completely or partially by a new paradigm. As the understanding of
science change, the more humans switch their world view. Thus, causing the rift between the
support between the old paradigm and the new. When it does, both sides must find reasons to
persuade others why the paradigm in question is correct for the new environment. Kuhn believes
that all paradigms mark the shift of environmental changes and human understanding and that not
only affects physical science but all sciences.
Kuhn believes that the universe is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also states that "The man who is striving to solve a problem defined by existing knowledge and
technique is not... just looking around. He knows what he wants to achieve, and he designs his
instruments and directs his thoughts accordingly" (Kuhn 8). By following the rules to conduct a
scientific experiment, Man must not rely on past scientific breakthroughs as they can change over
time. Instead Men must find new scientific breakthroughs for a better understanding of the world
around them. Once there is a need for a paradigm shift, it is vital for Men to reject an old paradigm
and focus on the new one. In order to solve the anomalies created by the shift, men create new rules
and principals that can define it. Thus creating a new era of scientific understanding and being able
to move forward from the old

Personal Narrative: My Personal Goals On Healing
My personal goals are centered on healing. In this world of decreasing resources and increasing and
ever diverse populations, there are unmet needs, confusions, and misunderstandings–the very stuff
of conflicts and wars. It has been my experience and observation that what the world (and especially
me) needs most is a transformation that involves healing, which I believe can lead to a greater
measure of peace. That is to say, I have come from a heritage that is troubled with addictions and the
abuse and generational cycles of violence that so often accompany addictions. However, I am a
survivor, and I continually strive to go forward healing from this past. In time, I came to
acknowledge my need for skills in conflict transformation and peace ... Show more content on

Often, leadership is thought of in terms of individual personality traits or characteristics (e.g.
sociable, self–confident leaders), or in terms of social roles (e.g. leaders in the field of criminal
justice, education, the church, and health–care), and the skills needed for functioning in such roles
(e.g. the ability to control a situation, the ability to develop the capacity of others, the ability to
produce followers, the ability to transform a situation), or in terms of leadership style (e.g. laissez
faire, authoritarian, authoritative, transformative). However, when thinking in terms of discrete
elements of leadership such as traits, roles, skills, and styles, one's attention is primarily focused on
what Whitney McIntyre Miller and Zachary Gabriel Green name in their article titled "An Integral
Perspective of Peace Leadership" as "a 'leadership as person' model that leaves absent the
interrelated importance of other aspects of [leadership] processes." Thus, McIntyre and Green, after
reviewing literature associated with peace leadership, propose an integral model of peace leadership
that incorporates unique characteristics of peace leaders, theoretical underpinnings of peace
leadership, community presence in peace movements, and group focuses on the influence of larger
systems

My Learning Experience With A Radical Shake Up
Significant learning begins with a radical shake–up
I grew up, together with my four siblings, at a small village in the Philippines. Everyone there knew
each other. In those days, I did not really think that I learned something meaningful that would
affect my life, but now I could say that I have a different perspective on "learning". I've realized so
many things from my experiences and I have seen life in a completely different perspective.
Growing up in a developing country gave me an opportunity to value things which I gave little
importance to. When you want to achieve anywhere in the world you need to be properly educated.
Meaningful learning occurs when students are faced in a problem–posing environment.
Most Filipino families often define education as an investment placed on their children for them to
continuously grow and pursue success on their line of interest by achieving higher education. My
learning experiences in the Philippines are completely different from my learning experiences here
in the United States. In the article entitled Play Deficit, the author states that "Children there spend
more time at their studies than US children, and they score higher on standardized international
tests" (Gray 6). Indeed, most of the students in the Philippines dedicate their life to learning and
gaining more knowledge. High school students have to go to school early. Classes start as early as
seven or seven–thirty in the morning until five in the

Summary Of Virginia WoolfA Room Of One's Own
The creativity and ideas of women have been stifled and ignored since the beginning of time. Seen
as the weaker, less intelligent sex women were not believed to be able to create important works,
especially those of literary importance. In "A Room of One's Own" by Virginia Woolf, the author
expresses a simple idea that women need at least a room of their own to produce the work that they
have been told they are unable to. Through stories of her thought process to reach this conclusion,
Virginia Woolf concludes the idea that people should "think of things in themselves" (39) and in
doing so presents a challenge to both sexes to understand what she argues are the causes and
problems stemming from lack of economic freedom for women and social paradigms that hinder the
act of truly thinking independently. Woolf's concept of free thinking stems from her questioning of
the instincts of men and their ability to do whatever they want to further themselves and have their
own opinions and possessions, and while she feels bad for them at first she realizes the freedom they
have. Her idea of free thinking grows from her new found economic independence given to her by
her aunt. Before receiving her inheritance Woolf could be found doing odd jobs around town that
she does not "describe in any detail the hardness of the work, for you know perhaps women who
have done it; nor the difficulty of living on the money when it was earned, for you may have tried"
(37). It's interesting that Woolf

Theory Analysis And Skill Training
1. Briefly explain the concept of paradigm.
A paradigm is defined as the fundamental way in which we think and define reality. It may include
values and beliefs that influence our decisions on what is real and what is not. It is how we know the
things we know. It is our own awareness of ourselves as observers and knowers and may relate to
how we think and act in certain situations. It is also how we process what is real and how we present
our knowings to others. In a paradigm no right or wrong answers are presented but instead
fundamental assumptions are used.
2.What is the dominant paradigm guiding practice and research in special education? Explain a few
key features of this paradigm.
The dominant paradigm is known as the Newtonian Mechanistic Paradigm and is often referred to
as the machine paradigm. This paradigm views animals and humans as machines. Simplicity is very
important and all complexity is often broken down and translated. Information is arranged logically
and sequentially. The theory includes task analysis and skill training and has a focus on quantity
instead of quality. It also ranks human behavior. This method does not value personal knowledge or
individuality. It does not focus on the process of learning or students motivation for learning.
3. Can you cite any professional examples of mechanistic practice that you 've encountered? (or if
you are currently teaching, you may describe what you do that may exemplify mechanistic practice)

The Impermanence of Knowledge
"That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow." Consider
knowledge issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge.
Knowledge is defined as "justified true belief". The concept of justified true belief states that "in
order to know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true
proposition, but one must also have justification for doing so ". New knowledge is based on the
credible theories, generalisations, which in turn are based on the observations and evidence. Theory
& observation are inherently intertwined. However, there is no perfect perception. Everything we
see and hear is coloured by what we believe about the things and events we see and hear. Hence,
new knowledge depends on the evidence and the perception of the observer based on what he sees
& hears which are again dependent on the observers' beliefs and values and also on the bias of the
individual / society in deciphering the same. "To what extent is the discarding of the existing
knowledge justified by an individual/ society?" While we see that the new knowledge is important,
discarding of the existing knowledge depends on the bias of the individual or firm or society at
large. We shall consider the above knowledge issue in ethics & natural science by studying the new
knowledge received on Marijuana, change in generalisations for a child and paradigm shifts in
astrophysics through emotion, perception and reason.
To what extent discarding

Object Oriented And How It Has Gained Popularity For Cost...
Research Question: Object–oriented (OO) technology in software design and implementation has
gained popularity for cost reduction and quality improvement. Research the concept of OO. In 10
pages ( double spaced, 12 point Times Roman font with 1 inch margins ), explain the evolution of
OO, how it differs from procedural programming, why it is more cost effective and how it can
improve software quality. The research project will be submitted through Turnitin Be sure to locate
at least 6 sources to reference. Cite your sources. Abstract This paper is about the evolution of
Object–oriented technology in software design and implementation and its role in current market for
developing web based products or server side scripting. Many Object–oriented languages have
come in market but among them companies prefer to use open source OO languages such as Java,
C++, C# .NET, and Visual Basic .NET etc. The demand for these languages has increased because
the cost of licensing is very less or nothing. As these languages are open source, it easy to find
relevant libraries and source code for the developers while developing a product. The cost of the
infrastructure such as development IDE's or testing tools are also minimal or available for free.
Hence all these factors decrease the cost of developing a product using Object–oriented technology.
The basic concept of OO language is Objects. An Object is a combination of attributes and
behaviors. An object is an entity that contains

Evaluation Of The New Edition Includes Supervision
Glickman, Gordon and Ross–Gordan (2014) wrote, "Like schools, supervision can be conventional,
congenial, or collegial. Throughout most of its history supervision has operated from within a
conventional paradigm (world–view), attempting to control teachers ' instructional behaviors. Based
on what we know about successful schools, the time has come to move from conventional schools
(still dominant in the United States) and congenial schools (less prevalent throughout the nation)
toward collegial schools (growing in number and success)." (p. 7). In order supervision in schools to
move towards a collegial style, there has to be a shift of thinking and focus to working with
teachers, not teachers working for them.
According to Glickman, Gordon and Ross–Gordan (2014), the title of the new edition includes
SuperVision, a term that denotes teaching and learning should developed collaboratively amongst
teachers and supervisors. This term also implies that this same group of individuals should work
together to build a democratic community where they make the school vision a reality (p. 8). In
order to make this paradigm shift, supervisors have to understand the different types of supervision
and understand when they are appropriate to use. The four models include directive control
behaviors, directive informational behaviors, collaborative behaviors, and nondirective behaviors.
Supervisors using the first type of supervision, direct control behaviors, are assertive and

Reflection On Philosophy Of Engineering
Through the course of the past few weeks I've come to believe that by engaging the methods of the
philosopher, we can diversify and enrich our understanding about what it is to practice engineering,
and by applying these new dimensions to existing knowledge and practices we can open doors for
greater opportunity and collaboration in innovation. In a rapidly Globalizing and interconnected
world, Collaborative Innovation across borders and disciplines has become the driving force behind
'change' and 'progress' especially in the Indian context. The biggest learning from this course, as an
Engineer, has been introduction to, and appreciation of, Philosophy's applicability to engineering,

years, philosophy of engineering is relatively unheard of, closer bonds between engineering and
philosophy are irrefutable and absolutely essential to approach engineering for what it really is and

Going Back to School as an Adult Essay
I do not believe the universe only knocks once, I believe it starts as a whisper and goes round and
round till you get it. It is usually the quiet or the unexpected moments you hear it best, though still
sometimes you might need several of those moments and a few reminders after that. It was in my
most recent semester at school where I heard how imbalanced I truly was, and if I made it my
mission to live my life in balance, to relax more and trust more, I will be more. I went back to
school with the simple goal of getting my degree and moving ahead in my career. School, education

If it would dominate the discussion and lessons and if that meant I had to mentally remove myself
mentally from the learning. Second, and instantly, I identified my self to the class as an individual
whose second language was English, and how this would hinder me. First I had to be open and
understanding of what an adult learner actually was. I came in to the class knowing I fit the criteria,
but it was not until we read and discussed a few articles on the subject that I learned what that
criteria actually was, and how it was a hinderance. In the article "Adult Learning Theory" it was
brought to my attention that adults, though ready to learn, come to the class with predetermined bias
and expectations. That while they come with knowledge and understanding, sometimes this is uses
to reject new information instead of build on it (Kenner, C & Weinerman, J., 2011). This is exactly
how I came in to the class, assuming I knew things, ready to reject things, and would continue to
unknowingly do so. I could recognize my self and my own learning patterns here, I was always
quick to access what I already knew and easy to reject new ideas that did not fit. My fear with
language is another example of this, I had a self proclaimed language barrier, a preconceived
reactionary bias that I accepted from the knowledge I had built, creating no room to focusing on
feedback and development. It was at

Paradigm Vs Traditional Paradigm
A paradigm is a model of a situation or a mindset. Paradigms can be rigid or constantly developing
as you learn and grow, physically maturing or emotionally evolving. Initially, a paradigm was
referring to an accepted model or pattern. In Structure, Thomas Kuhn defined a paradigm simply as
a group of exemplary problem solutions universally accepted by the members of a scientific
community (Brad Wray, 2012). According to Kuhn, what constitute a paradigm are not abstract
theories, but concrete applications of the theories for solutions of typical problem. Paradigm can
provide new ways of understanding behaviors in humans such as in individuals, organization,
family, community or group and global context. The paradigm concept can serve us ... Show more

Traditionally, being white is superior across the board, while the alternative paradigm would
celebrate the rich color of diversity. A traditional paradigm that has gone on for centuries would be
the sales and promotion of white baby dolls. Until the modern–day alternative paradigm shift in the
celebration of diversity, all children were presented with a white baby doll as a gift. This paradigm
skewed the thought of what a perfect baby looked like, leaving children and even adults absorbing
from the youngest age that white was superior. Currently, a child can find a doll to match their hair
color, eye color and skin color with facial features that reflect their ethnicity.
Charles Barkley once stated, "I'm not paid to be a role model. I'm paid to wreak havoc on the

success was only about him and what he was paid to do. An alternative paradigm for such a public
figure would be LeBron James, The LeBron James Family Foundation focuses on children, with
James donating around $41 million in 2015 sending 1,100 kids to school. Every child that finished
his program will go to college for free. Additionally, James spoke out publicly

Push : Paradigm Complexities : Essay
Push: Paradigm Complexities 1 INTRODUCTION In Sapphire's (1997) novel Push, she emphasizes
an overall theme of surviving and overcoming adversities like identity, mental disability, and self–
image. The dynamics of the book focuses on Clarice Precious Jones, a maltreated and obese,
African American teenager who struggles with the repercussions of being physically, sexually, and
psychologically abused by her parents– mainly, getting impregnated by her father. Precious and her
first child by her father, whom she named Little Mongo, is used by her mother as a means of
survival to receive welfare checks. Aside from her abuse, Precious is forced to cook, clean and
attend to her non–ambulatory mom, Mary. Carl, her dad, continuously rapes her under the
assumption that she "likes it and dies for it" (Sapphire, 1997, p. 24), even though her body is
responding accordingly to its biological function. While she is raped, she is disembodied and copes
with her abuse by occupying her mind with thoughts of "changing bodies" (Sapphire, 1997, p. 24).
As an underprivileged African American residing in Harlem, she authenticates the embedded
societal value of being "light skinned, thereby treated right and loved by boyz" (Sapphire, 1997, p.

Most people assume that workplace diversity is about increasing racial, national, gender, or class
representation –– in other words, recruiting and retaining more people from traditionally
underrepresented "identity groups." Taking this commonly held assumption as a starting point, we
set out six years ago to investigate its link to organizational effectiveness. We soon found that
thinking of diversity simply in terms of identity–group representation inhibited effectiveness.
Organizations usually take one of two paths in managing diversity. In the name of equality and
fairness, they encourage (and expect) women and people of color to blend in. Or they set them apart
in jobs that relate specifically to their backgrounds, assigning them, for example, to areas that
require them to interface with clients or customers of the same identity group. African American
M.B.A. 's often find themselves marketing products to innercity communities; Hispanics frequently
market to Hispanics or work for Latin American subsidiaries. In those kinds of cases, companies are
operating on the assumption that the main virtue identity groups have to offer is a knowledge of
their own people. This assumption is limited –– and limiting –– and detrimental to diversity efforts.
What we suggest here is that diversity goes beyond increasing the number of different identity–
group affiliations on the payroll to recognizing that such an effort is merely the first step in
managing a diverse workforce for the

When choosing to work with adults living with severe dementia, many people often ask me how or
why I do it. It's simple. Not only do I believe that all people have value, I likewise believe that all
people can contribute to society. The client who can no longer articulate their thoughts or needs or
desires is teaching me to listen and find alternative means of communication. In essence, they are
teaching me to be a better communicator. I think this is congruent with Sayers concept of
meaningful contribution. There are still so many things about the brain that we do not understand
that I would find it arrogant of me to assume that the person with dementia does not feel they are
still contributing to society in some way.
This improved communication skill, from my perspective, is an essential and necessary benchmark
for the establishment of an effective client/practitioner relationship. O'Keefe (2008) urges us to
listen to the narrative, there's a story to be heard, if only we adjust our philosophical positioning.

The Importance Of Knowledge In Art
Knowledge lies at the foundation of everything in society. While it may not always be noticed, it is
always present. This knowledge is used in an array of processes such as creativity, experimentation,
analysis, and so much more. From process to process, or area of knowledge to area of knowledge,
all knowledge incorporates the processes of both transformation and description in order to evolve
as justifiable beliefs. Transformative knowledge includes the product of an individual's
implementation of their personal cognitive processes to challenge traditional perspectives, while
descriptive knowledge results when individuals utilize the new perspectives, allowing fresh outlooks
to be perceived. While all areas of knowledge incorporate the use of both processes, some may
primarily use one or the other. This can be seen in the areas of art and natural sciences. Knowledge
in arts seems to primarily describe the world, while knowledge in natural sciences seeks to
transform it through innovation and much more.
The area of art is popularly known for heightening emotions, challenging stereotypes, and
ultimately providing insights into how individuals view the surrounding world. The artist and the
observer time and time again see pieces in overwhelmingly different ways. Individuals may wonder
why this is so. What could possibly create such a drastic change from one perspective to another?

Technology And The World Wide Web Essay
The rapid world of technology is quickly changing the way knowledge is learned, and taught. Those
who have access to the World Wide Web have new ways of exploring the realm of education from
all directions instead of retrieving knowledge from traditional places like college. However, college
is different because it is not only a place to gain knowledge, but also an environment that prepares
students for the real world. In Davidson's paper, she believes that we need to change the way higher
education is structured and adapt techniques that are already integrated within open source media, in
order for students to be equipped for the technological global environment. Instead today's
education is only preparing them for a Taylorized industrial age labor market. Davidson poses a new
paradigm for the way we perceive modern education. She introduces three principles that are used in
open source media that applicable to higher education. The three principles that online platforms
support are, 1) an openness of contribution, 2) elimination of boundaries, and 3) voluntarism in the
distribution of knowledge. An openness of contribution of knowledge permits anyone to share their
intellect with others, regardless of their educational background and it also welcomes everybody to
participate. Secondly, by eliminating structures and boundaries on the correctness of knowledge,
allows generation of new perspectives and not constricted by prior knowledge. Thirdly, by creating

Is Psychoanalysis Unscientific? Essay
Examination 2 Short Answers #1 There is a claim that psychoanalysis fails at the fourth stage of the
standard scientific method model because there has not been any significant accumulation of
knowledge for the theory since it was introduced. It seems that nothing has progressed, and as such,
one could state that since there has not been any advancements, psychoanalysis is simply
unscientific. Thomas Kuhn, a philosopher of science, however, believes that this view of science is
not accurate. He wrote an article titled: The Structure of Scientific Revolution that made an
argument that science does not progress in a linear fashion in regards to knowledge, but rather
science has two different forms of scientific knowledge accumulation. ... Show more content on

Epistemic values are another anomaly which are features that lend credit to theories. So, for
example, one could point to the feature comprehensiveness, which is the feature that treats all forms
of mental illness for effectiveness. Another anomaly is an exemplar. During "normal science" the
scientist solves puzzles, and when he does finally solve one, it is known as an exemplar. As
researchers puzzle–solved within a paradigm, anomalies start to build up until it reaches a crisis, and
a new paradigm is born. Psychoanalysis, it appears, is a science because it was born as a
revolutionary paradigm, entered the realm of normal science where it experienced a number of
anomalies, and, finally, it got pushed aside by a new revolutionary science, which is now the
dominating paradigm, the bio–psycho–social paradigm. Examination 2 Short Answers #2 Szasz
believes that mental illness is a myth and that it is not a genuine illness because it is based on
deviations of the moral/social sort, as opposed to bodily deviations. He proposed an argument that is
very effective because it relies, heavily, on familiar intuition. This argument is known as the
Argument from Causality. This argument states that mental illness is identified in terms of
deviations from moral/social norms. These mental illness are also, allegedly, the cause of

Flourishing Summary Sparknotes
Summary
Flourishing is written by two authors who propose a radical approach to considering sustainability.
They do not see the problem as simply corporations causing harm to the environment, as it appears
on the surface. They propose that the root problem within our society exists within our culture. A
major part of the book specifically tackles the way society has applied the concepts of capitalism.
Originally where society consisted of relationships between different individuals, individuals and
nature, and individuals and themselves, the application of capitalism, along with the drive from
corporations towards consumerism, has created a culture in which satisfaction stems from "Having"
more as oppose to simply "Being". The book proposes we are no longer focussed on being satisfied
with ourselves, and satisfied with what we have, whether it be the relationships around us or the
items we possess.
To solve these problems and the detriment to the environment that stems from them, the authors call
for a complete paradigm shift in our current way of living. To start off that shift they interpret the
definition of sustainability as being too limiting. They instead introduce the term of sustainability–
as–flourishing. This is basically a state in which an individual feels a sense of ... Show more content

The idea that we need to change ourselves completely, from our current consumerism culture, our
ways of "Having" to ways of "Being," has opened my eyes to not only how much needs to be done,
but how it needs to be done. We as individuals need to change our ways of thinking in order for
society to change its ways of operation, as society is nothing but a group of individuals. Although
we are embedded in our traditional ways, this book gives me hope that change is possible and I,
myself, can initiate that

Life Of A Blessed And Faithful Man By J. Gerald Janzen Essay
The Book of Job dives into the life of a blessed and faithful man in which his life takes an
unsuspecting turn. From the loss of property and loved ones, to only be accused of wickedness by
friends as the explanation of this calamity that has befallen Job. Author J. Gerald Janzen, whose
personal struggle has opened a corridor that creates a connection with the life of Job takes us on a
walk with Job through his journey from prosperity, to loss and bitterness then into the presence of
God. At the Scent of Water will open our mind to the possibility of hope and grace to anyone who
has gone through suffering in the past or is going through times of difficulty in the presence.
The author uses distancing strategy to enable the engagement of the exilic and postexilic
community. To highlight the two biblical paradigms for divine human–relationship, clan–personal
and cosmic–political associated to Abraham and Moses that is evident the history of Israel. The text
also plays out the argument between Job and friends within the Mosaic paradigm. The text also
identifies the elements of the ancestral paradigm as reflected in the introduction of the name and
themes of Shadday. We also see the paradigm of clan religion is primary in the book of job. With
references to the two domains of human experience, the familial and the political and the associated
models of religious understanding come together in Job's oath to give healing and ease of pain. The
text also provides a reflection on

Change Your Beliefs
Do you agree with what the greatest Self–Help Success author of all time Napoleon Hill (author of
Think & Grow Rich) said, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it will achieve"?
I've learned–– often the hard ways–– that what your mind believes you will ALWAYS achieve:
Good, bad or indifferent. Unless and until something comes along to "change your mind."
Your beliefs create your paradigm of life–– the way it is, whatever the "it" is we're talking about.
There are paradigms for every domain of life and work.
A paradigm is your belief about the way it is. It's your "worldview" of the matter no matter what's
the matter.

Question 1.1
When Mr. Drucker says, "Be data literate" he means that one should know how to use data
effectively to the company 's benefit. There are two challenges that one faces in attempting to be
data literate. The first challenge is deciding what information to use, what is should be used for and
how it should be used. The second challenge is how to test and put the data together with the
existing information system to make them effective in a company 's decision process. The most
difficult challenge will be bringing the computer based data processing and the accounting system
together to ensure the most beneficial decisions for a company.

specifies critical elements and their linkages for an organizations strategy and was design for
describing and implementing a strategy that may be as useful as the income statement, balance sheet
and statement of cash flows for financial planning and reporting.
Question 2.2b
According to Kaplan and Norton, the two basic approaches for increasing economic value are
revenue growth and productivity. Each of these strategies embodies two components. Within the
revenue growth strategy are the components of building revenue through new markets, products and
customers and increasing sales through existing customers. Within the productivity strategy a
company strives to improve costs and utilize its assets more efficiently.

Notes On Retrieval Induced Forgetting
Experiment 6
Retrieval induced forgetting
Aarti N. Shah
Roll Number: 21 MA–I
University of Mumbai
Department of Applied Psychology and Counseling Centre
Abstract
Using the retrieval–practice paradigm (Anderson, R. A. Bjork, & E. L. Bjork, 1994), it was tested
whether or not retrieval–induced forgetting could be found in item recognition test in terms of RT
and accuracy. In this experiment retrieval practice on items from semantic categories depressed
recognition of non–practiced items from the same categories reflected in terms of RT and accuracy.
Also the results are consistent with the hypothesis that the accuracy in recognition of rp+ (Practiced
items from practice categories) items will be highest followed by nrp (Unpracticed items for the
unpracticed categories) items and lowest for rp– (Unpracticed items from the practiced categories)
items. The reaction time in recognition task will be lowest for rp+ item followed by nrp items and
highest for rp– items.
Introduction
Memory is power in which the mind stores and remembers information. Memory is a process in
which information is encoded stored and retrieved for later usage. Forgetting is an apparent loss of
information already encoded and stored in an individual's memory. It is a spontaneous process
wherein old memories are unable to be recalled from memory storage. Active forgetting can be
stated as an evidence for functional inhibition as a source of one's memory failure. (Anderson,
1994). There

Psychological Paradigm Shift : The Beauty Of The Old And...
Psychological Paradigm Shift: The Beauty of the Old and Need for the New I had the pleasure of
reading an article titled, Psychological Paradigm Shift: The Beauty of the Old and Need for the
New. This article is framed around Jungian theory, in fact what comes to mind for me is
individuation. I say that, because in this article the therapist is tasked with aiding the patient with
bringing a conscious reality to a psychological reality that is unique to the patient. This paper will
give a brief description of what the environment looks like at a Jungian conference, according to the
author. What to do when you reach an impasse and recognizing that a paradigm shift is beneficial
for treatment. This article in part references a Jungian conference attended by the author and his
wife who happens to be psychologists. According to Simon (2016), a great deal of the individuals,
who attended this conference were mental health professionals. The picture he paints is one of a
philosophical pilgrimage, attended by "dreamers, truth –seekers, self–reflectors" and individuals of
that nature. During the course of this conference, a majority of the therapist began to discuss
scenarios from cases that they were working on unnamed of course. It was discovered that a great
deal of the therapists' cases resulted in an impasse. These therapist began to discuss some of the past
paradigms shifts that took place in counseling. In particular, at this conference many people were

What Is Procedural Programming Paradigm
Task 1
What is Procedural Programming Paradigm?
In Information Technology(IT) jargon Programming is termed as an innovative process where the
computer receives instructions how to perform a task as per the requirement or solving a specific
problem.
The various ways of attending to the process of programming is known as programming paradigms.
Majority of programming language comes under one paradigm; contrary to this one could observe
some languages having elements of multiple paradigms. Paradigm is a way where a specific code is
arranged. A code comprises various commands or instructions there in relation to functions and or
procedures.
Most vital programming paradigms can be listed as Procedural paradigms and the object – oriented
paradigms.

Difference Between Straight Programming And...
Procedural Programing Assignment 1
Question 1
1.1. The two programming paradigms we get is Object–Orientated and Procedural. To understand
what they are we need to explain what each are and how they operate and what are the strengths and
weaknesses of each. Now Procedural Programming languages are referred to as straight
programming taking on a read from the top to the end method, whereas Object–Oriented
programming use objects and classes. Procedural takes on applications by solving problems from
using a top to down way reading the problem from the start and going through everything until the
program is finished at the end (Eliason, 2015).
So to see the scope of the two is to go into detail of what each does and how they function. Now
Procedural you will provide step by step instructions and the program will run through everything
throughout the process and solve the problem. Procedural was mainly used in the earlier
programming languages, like COBOL or C (Gaddis, 2016). Object–Oriented languages use a

An OOP language can use a group of objects that will send message when they are called for a
request for a specific service or information. Objects is able to pass or receive messages or process
information in the form of data. The reason we use OOP is that it makes maintaining code easier and
faster to change and modify existing code. That mean we cut down on development time and
changing the programme much easier. Also Object–Orientated Programming is more efficient at
memory management, and thus makes it more effective towards Procedural, where you must
manage your own memory usage.
So in short Object–oriented programming uses data fields and Procedural Programming use
procedures (Elisason,2015).

Languages : Python And Java
Programming languages are vast and diverse in their numbers. These different languages use
fundamental styles of programming called programming paradigms. These programming paradigms
layout the particular design approach that a program will use to solve a problem or achieve an
objective. Of the many different types of programming paradigms, some of the more distinguished
ones are procedural, functional, logical, and object orientated programming. Recently the object
orientated languages have been rising in popularity due to their ability to easily implement large
programs. There are many different object orientated programming languages (OOPLs), among
them are C#, Java, Ruby, and Python. This essay will compare and contrast two of these languages:
Python and Java.
OOPLs have been around since the 1960's (Deitel, Java How to Program). They handle tasks by
viewing them as a group of different objects. Objects are created from a class which could be
considered the blueprint. Objects contain data stored in fields, and the procedures which manipulate
the data are known as methods. These objects can interact with each other. There are some key
elements of OOPLs, such as code reusability. In OOPLs, through what is known as inheritance,
code can be reused. Think of a cup, it is an object. It contains a liquid and overflows when it's full.
If you wanted to program a coffee mug, wine glass, or sports bottle, you could reuse the code for a
cup though inheritance, then add extra fields

Programming Models Of Wsn System
Research Proposal Title Programming Models of WSN System: A State–of–the–Art Survey
Introduction There are a lot scenarios need different sensor nodes to collaborate and integrated on
the air into networks to facilitate applications. The scaled–down censoring system presented below
is an example of those wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this system sensors are different
between corridors area and manufacturing area, since they need different precise level. Those
sensors combined together by different wireless AP and provide services to different applications
inside and outside the plant. This is where virtualization shines. Virtualization creates an uniformed
environment in heterogeneous sensor networks. It bridge the gap between infrastructure and
applications. And the network and sensor virtualization can achieved by the middleware.
Middleware hide unnecessary details and complexity of the underlying heterogeneous
infrastructures, like different sensor nodes and different wireless AP in the presented scenario.
Software designs and programming approaches for the middleware design should facilitate the
balance between communication and computing. Energy awareness, routing, efficient resource
utilization and data delivery have always been the key parameters for an efficient programming
model for WSN. Motivating Scenario Fig 1. A motivating example on dust–free manufacturing
plant censoring. A simplified dust–free manufacturing plant censoring system is described below.

The article begins by examining the notion of paradigms and worldviews as
currently used in the nursing literature and suggests that the concept of a single paradigm supports a
philosophy inconsistent with nursing's goal of building knowledge on the nature of the human
response. Next, the strength of plurality in nursing knowledge development, its warrantable
evidence, and the concept of a unity of knowledge to support knowledge development and practice
is articulated. Finally, the nursing practice implications of this perspective are discussed.
Worldviews and Paradigms Worldviews and paradigms have been accepted in nursing as essential to
researchers' theoretical perspectives, delineation of research questions, and ultimately to the
selection of research methods. The search for a nursing paradigm as a means of knowledge
development has been extensively reviewed in the nursing literature (Fawcett, 1995; Keywords:

The Sustainability Website, And There Are Some Positive...
I have recently reviewed the UMass sustainability website, and there is some positive things that I
have seen. There are also some things that could be improved upon. I will be discussing a number of
different issues regarding communication of sustainability, and how UMass appears to be
approaching those issues, as well as ways to improve our initiative.
To begin with I would like to state that there is a difference between the dominant and ecological
paradigm in the context of the sustainability initiative. The dominate paradigm is what values in a
society that are most standard and widely held. Dominant paradigms are shaped both by the
community 's cultural background. The ecological paradigm sees the current dominant paradigm as

If what they say in their first statement is true, this is a good step. Exploring and communicating
ways to improve upon our communities practices, ideas, and technologies would fall into the new
ecological paradigm. It would be an attempted to shift away from the dominant unsustainable
paradigm. The next point mentioned in the mission statement is "We educate the campus community
to create a healthier and more responsible environment". Education of a community is how a
paradigm shift will happen. Education about what is unsustainable, why being unsustainable is
harmful, and how to become more sustainable is absolutely vital in order to shift a community 's
thoughts, ideas, and behaviors. Next the mission statement says that "We develop progressive
solutions to reduce negative environmental impacts in ways that are economically beneficial".
Solutions to reduce negative environmental impacts are what is needed in order to change from
unsustainable to sustainable. Understanding problems won't help unless solutions to those problems
are known. Lastly, the mission statement says that "We create and consistently advocate for a
diverse & inclusive culture of sustainability throughout the campus community and beyond". By
trying to create and advocate a culture of sustainability, they are also trying to shift the paradigms
from the dominate to ecological. Based on the information provided by the mission statements, I

Difference Between Object Oriented And Object-Driven...
Unit 6 Assignment by Ali Shafiq
(P1–P2)
In programming, there are three different types of paradigms that we use in programming. And they
are procedural, object–oriented and event–driven programming paradigms.
Procedural Language
Procedural programming is a programming paradigm which is derived from structured
programming and it is based upon the concept of the procedure call such as where you can keep a
record of procedure call programs. It's also a list or set of instructions telling a computer what to do
step by step. Also tell the computer how to perform from the first code to the second code. The
program can be broken into procedures or subroutines or functions such as Anglo, C and Pascal.
Procedural programming uses a list of instruction to tell the computer what to do step by step. It

Object–oriented programming is a programming language model organized around objects. And it
represents the concept of object that has data fields. The Object–oriented programming is a type of
language that is oriented around objects. They do not base their action on the logic that manipulate
the object, but on object.
By using object–oriented, you can solve problems. The object–oriented language is a type of
programming that is kept in a single unit called object. Meaning that the only way user can access
the data is by using the objects methods. This can insure that the user will be incapable of corrupting
the object and also internal working can be changed without corrupting the code using the object.
Some of the limitations for this programming language are that you have to do most of the task
manually. Object oriented programming is also limited with low amount of functions as comparing
to low programming that interacts directly with hardware.

Effectiveness Of A Competitive Advantage

  • 1. Effectiveness Of A Competitive Advantage Increasingly, firms find themselves, either by design or circumstances, operating in business environments fraught with unprecedented, unparalleled, unrelenting, and largely unpredictable change. Retaining competitive advantage is a constant preoccupation for all companies. Millions of words have been written purporting to identify the principles and practices most likely to enable firms to gain competitive advantage and, thereby, enjoy superior profit margins. Despite all this study, management remains a testing ground where theory, experience, judgment and, sometimes, luck play a role. According to Glenn (2009), approximately 90 per cent of senior executives who took a survey by The Economist's Magazine Intelligence Unit understand that their organizations have to be agile to thrive in the marketplace. According to Merriam–Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, to be agile is to have a "quick, resourceful and adaptable character" (Agile, 2016). Agility has classically been defined as simply the ability to change direction rapidly (Bloomfield, Ackland, & Elliot, 1994; Clarke, 1959; Mathews, 1973), but also the ability to change direction rapidly and accurately (Barrow & McGee, 1971; Johnson & Nelson, 1969). In more recent publications, some authors have defined agility to include whole–body change of direction as well as rapid movement and direction change of limbs (Baechle, 1994; Draper & Lancaster, 1985). Based on many researches done we can define organizational agility as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Procedural Programming Of Programming Languages Programming Languages Definition of the term "program" A program in computing is a predefined list of instructions that, when run or 'executed ', tell a computer to carry out a task and how to it. Overview of procedural, object orientated and event driven programs In programming, there are many different paradigms, also known as structures or styles that allow the programmer a means to build or structure different elements within a computer program. These paradigms are: procedural, event driven and object orientated. Applications that can be developed using these paradigms Procedural programming uses a list of instructions to tell the computer what to do step–by–step. Procedural programming relies on – you guessed it – procedures, also known as routines or subroutines. A procedure contains a series of computational steps to be carried out. Procedural programming is also referred to as imperative programming. Procedural programming languages are also known as top–down languages. Procedural programming is intuitive in the sense that it is very similar to how you would expect a program to work. If you want a computer to do something, you should provide step–by–step instructions on how to do it. It is, therefore, no surprise that most of the early programming languages are all procedural. The procedural paradigm uses a list of instructions as a basis. These tell the computer what to do, and how to do it step by step. The procedural paradigm does rely on subroutines or ... • 3. Scientific Revolution Thomas Kuhn In Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Kuhn states that a paradigm shift is a revolutionary event as it causes the rise in a new era of science. A scientific revolution is when an older paradigm is replaced completely or partially by a new paradigm. As the understanding of science change, the more humans switch their world view. Thus, causing the rift between the support between the old paradigm and the new. When it does, both sides must find reasons to persuade others why the paradigm in question is correct for the new environment. Kuhn believes that all paradigms mark the shift of environmental changes and human understanding and that not only affects physical science but all sciences. Kuhn believes that the universe is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also states that "The man who is striving to solve a problem defined by existing knowledge and technique is not... just looking around. He knows what he wants to achieve, and he designs his instruments and directs his thoughts accordingly" (Kuhn 8). By following the rules to conduct a scientific experiment, Man must not rely on past scientific breakthroughs as they can change over time. Instead Men must find new scientific breakthroughs for a better understanding of the world around them. Once there is a need for a paradigm shift, it is vital for Men to reject an old paradigm and focus on the new one. In order to solve the anomalies created by the shift, men create new rules and principals that can define it. Thus creating a new era of scientific understanding and being able to move forward from the old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Personal Narrative: My Personal Goals On Healing My personal goals are centered on healing. In this world of decreasing resources and increasing and ever diverse populations, there are unmet needs, confusions, and misunderstandings–the very stuff of conflicts and wars. It has been my experience and observation that what the world (and especially me) needs most is a transformation that involves healing, which I believe can lead to a greater measure of peace. That is to say, I have come from a heritage that is troubled with addictions and the abuse and generational cycles of violence that so often accompany addictions. However, I am a survivor, and I continually strive to go forward healing from this past. In time, I came to acknowledge my need for skills in conflict transformation and peace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often, leadership is thought of in terms of individual personality traits or characteristics (e.g. sociable, self–confident leaders), or in terms of social roles (e.g. leaders in the field of criminal justice, education, the church, and health–care), and the skills needed for functioning in such roles (e.g. the ability to control a situation, the ability to develop the capacity of others, the ability to produce followers, the ability to transform a situation), or in terms of leadership style (e.g. laissez faire, authoritarian, authoritative, transformative). However, when thinking in terms of discrete elements of leadership such as traits, roles, skills, and styles, one's attention is primarily focused on what Whitney McIntyre Miller and Zachary Gabriel Green name in their article titled "An Integral Perspective of Peace Leadership" as "a 'leadership as person' model that leaves absent the interrelated importance of other aspects of [leadership] processes." Thus, McIntyre and Green, after reviewing literature associated with peace leadership, propose an integral model of peace leadership that incorporates unique characteristics of peace leaders, theoretical underpinnings of peace leadership, community presence in peace movements, and group focuses on the influence of larger systems ... • 5. My Learning Experience With A Radical Shake Up Significant learning begins with a radical shake–up I grew up, together with my four siblings, at a small village in the Philippines. Everyone there knew each other. In those days, I did not really think that I learned something meaningful that would affect my life, but now I could say that I have a different perspective on "learning". I've realized so many things from my experiences and I have seen life in a completely different perspective. Growing up in a developing country gave me an opportunity to value things which I gave little importance to. When you want to achieve anywhere in the world you need to be properly educated. Meaningful learning occurs when students are faced in a problem–posing environment. Most Filipino families often define education as an investment placed on their children for them to continuously grow and pursue success on their line of interest by achieving higher education. My learning experiences in the Philippines are completely different from my learning experiences here in the United States. In the article entitled Play Deficit, the author states that "Children there spend more time at their studies than US children, and they score higher on standardized international tests" (Gray 6). Indeed, most of the students in the Philippines dedicate their life to learning and gaining more knowledge. High school students have to go to school early. Classes start as early as seven or seven–thirty in the morning until five in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Virginia WoolfA Room Of One's Own The creativity and ideas of women have been stifled and ignored since the beginning of time. Seen as the weaker, less intelligent sex women were not believed to be able to create important works, especially those of literary importance. In "A Room of One's Own" by Virginia Woolf, the author expresses a simple idea that women need at least a room of their own to produce the work that they have been told they are unable to. Through stories of her thought process to reach this conclusion, Virginia Woolf concludes the idea that people should "think of things in themselves" (39) and in doing so presents a challenge to both sexes to understand what she argues are the causes and problems stemming from lack of economic freedom for women and social paradigms that hinder the act of truly thinking independently. Woolf's concept of free thinking stems from her questioning of the instincts of men and their ability to do whatever they want to further themselves and have their own opinions and possessions, and while she feels bad for them at first she realizes the freedom they have. Her idea of free thinking grows from her new found economic independence given to her by her aunt. Before receiving her inheritance Woolf could be found doing odd jobs around town that she does not "describe in any detail the hardness of the work, for you know perhaps women who have done it; nor the difficulty of living on the money when it was earned, for you may have tried" (37). It's interesting that Woolf ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Theory Analysis And Skill Training 1. Briefly explain the concept of paradigm. A paradigm is defined as the fundamental way in which we think and define reality. It may include values and beliefs that influence our decisions on what is real and what is not. It is how we know the things we know. It is our own awareness of ourselves as observers and knowers and may relate to how we think and act in certain situations. It is also how we process what is real and how we present our knowings to others. In a paradigm no right or wrong answers are presented but instead fundamental assumptions are used. 2.What is the dominant paradigm guiding practice and research in special education? Explain a few key features of this paradigm. The dominant paradigm is known as the Newtonian Mechanistic Paradigm and is often referred to as the machine paradigm. This paradigm views animals and humans as machines. Simplicity is very important and all complexity is often broken down and translated. Information is arranged logically and sequentially. The theory includes task analysis and skill training and has a focus on quantity instead of quality. It also ranks human behavior. This method does not value personal knowledge or individuality. It does not focus on the process of learning or students motivation for learning. 3. Can you cite any professional examples of mechanistic practice that you 've encountered? • 8. The Impermanence of Knowledge "That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow." Consider knowledge issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge. Knowledge is defined as "justified true belief". The concept of justified true belief states that "in order to know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true proposition, but one must also have justification for doing so ". New knowledge is based on the credible theories, generalisations, which in turn are based on the observations and evidence. Theory & observation are inherently intertwined. However, there is no perfect perception. Everything we see and hear is coloured by what we believe about the things and events we see and hear. Hence, new knowledge depends on the evidence and the perception of the observer based on what he sees & hears which are again dependent on the observers' beliefs and values and also on the bias of the individual / society in deciphering the same. "To what extent is the discarding of the existing knowledge justified by an individual/ society?" While we see that the new knowledge is important, discarding of the existing knowledge depends on the bias of the individual or firm or society at large. We shall consider the above knowledge issue in ethics & natural science by studying the new knowledge received on Marijuana, change in generalisations for a child and paradigm shifts in astrophysics through emotion, perception and reason. To what extent discarding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Object Oriented And How It Has Gained Popularity For Cost... Research Question: Object–oriented (OO) technology in software design and implementation has gained popularity for cost reduction and quality improvement. Research the concept of OO. In 10 pages ( double spaced, 12 point Times Roman font with 1 inch margins ), explain the evolution of OO, how it differs from procedural programming, why it is more cost effective and how it can improve software quality. The research project will be submitted through Turnitin Be sure to locate at least 6 sources to reference. Cite your sources. Abstract This paper is about the evolution of Object–oriented technology in software design and implementation and its role in current market for developing web based products or server side scripting. Many Object–oriented languages have come in market but among them companies prefer to use open source OO languages such as Java, C++, C# .NET, and Visual Basic .NET etc. The demand for these languages has increased because the cost of licensing is very less or nothing. As these languages are open source, it easy to find relevant libraries and source code for the developers while developing a product. The cost of the infrastructure such as development IDE's or testing tools are also minimal or available for free. Hence all these factors decrease the cost of developing a product using Object–oriented technology. The basic concept of OO language is Objects. An Object is a combination of attributes and behaviors. An object is an entity that contains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Evaluation Of The New Edition Includes Supervision Glickman, Gordon and Ross–Gordan (2014) wrote, "Like schools, supervision can be conventional, congenial, or collegial. Throughout most of its history supervision has operated from within a conventional paradigm (world–view), attempting to control teachers ' instructional behaviors. Based on what we know about successful schools, the time has come to move from conventional schools (still dominant in the United States) and congenial schools (less prevalent throughout the nation) toward collegial schools (growing in number and success)." (p. 7). In order supervision in schools to move towards a collegial style, there has to be a shift of thinking and focus to working with teachers, not teachers working for them. According to Glickman, Gordon and Ross–Gordan (2014), the title of the new edition includes SuperVision, a term that denotes teaching and learning should developed collaboratively amongst teachers and supervisors. This term also implies that this same group of individuals should work together to build a democratic community where they make the school vision a reality (p. 8). In order to make this paradigm shift, supervisors have to understand the different types of supervision and understand when they are appropriate to use. The four models include directive control behaviors, directive informational behaviors, collaborative behaviors, and nondirective behaviors. Supervisors using the first type of supervision, direct control behaviors, are assertive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Reflection On Philosophy Of Engineering Through the course of the past few weeks I've come to believe that by engaging the methods of the philosopher, we can diversify and enrich our understanding about what it is to practice engineering, and by applying these new dimensions to existing knowledge and practices we can open doors for greater opportunity and collaboration in innovation. In a rapidly Globalizing and interconnected world, Collaborative Innovation across borders and disciplines has become the driving force behind 'change' and 'progress' especially in the Indian context. The biggest learning from this course, as an Engineer, has been introduction to, and appreciation of, Philosophy's applicability to engineering, which can be understood when engineering is seen as ... • 12. Going Back to School as an Adult Essay I do not believe the universe only knocks once, I believe it starts as a whisper and goes round and round till you get it. It is usually the quiet or the unexpected moments you hear it best, though still sometimes you might need several of those moments and a few reminders after that. It was in my most recent semester at school where I heard how imbalanced I truly was, and if I made it my mission to live my life in balance, to relax more and trust more, I will be more. I went back to school with the simple goal of getting my degree and moving ahead in my career. School, education and obtaining my degree were always important to me, since my profession requires a bachelor degree to qualify for national certification, it was a better ... Second, and instantly, I identified my self to the class as an individual whose second language was English, and how this would hinder me. First I had to be open and understanding of what an adult learner actually was. I came in to the class knowing I fit the criteria, but it was not until we read and discussed a few articles on the subject that I learned what that criteria actually was, and how it was a hinderance. In the article "Adult Learning Theory" it was brought to my attention that adults, though ready to learn, come to the class with predetermined bias and expectations. That while they come with knowledge and understanding, sometimes this is uses to reject new information instead of build on it (Kenner, C & Weinerman, J., 2011). This is exactly how I came in to the class, assuming I knew things, ready to reject things, and would continue to unknowingly do so. I could recognize my self and my own learning patterns here, I was always quick to access what I already knew and easy to reject new ideas that did not fit. My fear with language is another example of this, I had a self proclaimed language barrier, a preconceived reactionary bias that I accepted from the knowledge I had built, creating no room to focusing on feedback and development. • 13. Paradigm Vs Traditional Paradigm A paradigm is a model of a situation or a mindset. Paradigms can be rigid or constantly developing as you learn and grow, physically maturing or emotionally evolving. Initially, a paradigm was referring to an accepted model or pattern. In Structure, Thomas Kuhn defined a paradigm simply as a group of exemplary problem solutions universally accepted by the members of a scientific community (Brad Wray, 2012). According to Kuhn, what constitute a paradigm are not abstract theories, but concrete applications of the theories for solutions of typical problem. Paradigm can provide new ways of understanding behaviors in humans such as in individuals, organization, family, community or group and global context. The paradigm concept can serve us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditionally, being white is superior across the board, while the alternative paradigm would celebrate the rich color of diversity. A traditional paradigm that has gone on for centuries would be the sales and promotion of white baby dolls. Until the modern–day alternative paradigm shift in the celebration of diversity, all children were presented with a white baby doll as a gift. This paradigm skewed the thought of what a perfect baby looked like, leaving children and even adults absorbing from the youngest age that white was superior. Currently, a child can find a doll to match their hair color, eye color and skin color with facial features that reflect their ethnicity. Charles Barkley once stated, "I'm not paid to be a role model. I'm paid to wreak havoc on the basketball court." This quote is a perfect example of the traditional paradigm illustrating impersonal and a competitive mindset. Push : Paradigm Complexities : Essay Push: Paradigm Complexities 1 INTRODUCTION In Sapphire's (1997) novel Push, she emphasizes an overall theme of surviving and overcoming adversities like identity, mental disability, and self– image. The dynamics of the book focuses on Clarice Precious Jones, a maltreated and obese, African American teenager who struggles with the repercussions of being physically, sexually, and psychologically abused by her parents– mainly, getting impregnated by her father. Precious and her first child by her father, whom she named Little Mongo, is used by her mother as a means of survival to receive welfare checks. Aside from her abuse, Precious is forced to cook, clean and attend to her non–ambulatory mom, Mary. Carl, her dad, continuously rapes her under the assumption that she "likes it and dies for it" (Sapphire, 1997, p. 24), even though her body is responding accordingly to its biological function. While she is raped, she is disembodied and copes with her abuse by occupying her mind with thoughts of "changing bodies" (Sapphire, 1997, p. 24). As an underprivileged African American residing in Harlem, she authenticates the embedded societal value of being "light skinned, thereby treated right and loved by boyz" (Sapphire, 1997, p. 113). Her hardships and the realization of not fitting into that criteria, makes her wish that she wasn't alive and entertains thoughts of suicide (Sapphire, 1997). The story unfolds when Precious is suspended for being pregnant. Regardless of her commitment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most people assume that workplace diversity is about increasing racial, national, gender, or class representation –– in other words, recruiting and retaining more people from traditionally underrepresented "identity groups." Taking this commonly held assumption as a starting point, we set out six years ago to investigate its link to organizational effectiveness. We soon found that thinking of diversity simply in terms of identity–group representation inhibited effectiveness. Organizations usually take one of two paths in managing diversity. In the name of equality and fairness, they encourage (and expect) women and people of color to blend in. Or they set them apart in jobs that relate specifically to their backgrounds, assigning them, for example, to areas that require them to interface with clients or customers of the same identity group. African American M.B.A. 's often find themselves marketing products to innercity communities; Hispanics frequently market to Hispanics or work for Latin American subsidiaries. In those kinds of cases, companies are operating on the assumption that the main virtue identity groups have to offer is a knowledge of their own people. This assumption is limited –– and limiting –– and detrimental to diversity efforts. What we suggest here is that diversity goes beyond increasing the number of different identity– group affiliations on the payroll to recognizing that such an effort is merely the first step in managing a diverse workforce for the ... • 20. The Importance Of Knowledge In Art Knowledge lies at the foundation of everything in society. While it may not always be noticed, it is always present. This knowledge is used in an array of processes such as creativity, experimentation, analysis, and so much more. From process to process, or area of knowledge to area of knowledge, all knowledge incorporates the processes of both transformation and description in order to evolve as justifiable beliefs. Transformative knowledge includes the product of an individual's implementation of their personal cognitive processes to challenge traditional perspectives, while descriptive knowledge results when individuals utilize the new perspectives, allowing fresh outlooks to be perceived. While all areas of knowledge incorporate the use of both processes, some may primarily use one or the other. This can be seen in the areas of art and natural sciences. Knowledge in arts seems to primarily describe the world, while knowledge in natural sciences seeks to transform it through innovation and much more. The area of art is popularly known for heightening emotions, challenging stereotypes, and ultimately providing insights into how individuals view the surrounding world. The artist and the observer time and time again see pieces in overwhelmingly different ways. Individuals may wonder why this is so. Those who have access to the World Wide Web have new ways of exploring the realm of education from all directions instead of retrieving knowledge from traditional places like college. However, college is different because it is not only a place to gain knowledge, but also an environment that prepares students for the real world. In Davidson's paper, she believes that we need to change the way higher education is structured and adapt techniques that are already integrated within open source media, in order for students to be equipped for the technological global environment. Instead today's education is only preparing them for a Taylorized industrial age labor market. Davidson poses a new paradigm for the way we perceive modern education. She introduces three principles that are used in open source media that applicable to higher education. The three principles that online platforms support are, 1) an openness of contribution, 2) elimination of boundaries, and 3) voluntarism in the distribution of knowledge. An openness of contribution of knowledge permits anyone to share their intellect with others, regardless of their educational background and it also welcomes everybody to participate. Secondly, by eliminating structures and boundaries on the correctness of knowledge, allows generation of new perspectives and not constricted by prior knowledge. Thirdly, by creating a ... • 23. Flourishing Summary Sparknotes Summary Flourishing is written by two authors who propose a radical approach to considering sustainability. They do not see the problem as simply corporations causing harm to the environment, as it appears on the surface. They propose that the root problem within our society exists within our culture. A major part of the book specifically tackles the way society has applied the concepts of capitalism. Originally where society consisted of relationships between different individuals, individuals and nature, and individuals and themselves, the application of capitalism, along with the drive from corporations towards consumerism, has created a culture in which satisfaction stems from "Having" more as oppose to simply "Being". The book proposes we are no longer focussed on being satisfied with ourselves, and satisfied with what we have, whether it be the relationships around us or the items we possess. To solve these problems and the detriment to the environment that stems from them, the authors call for a complete paradigm shift in our current way of living. To start off that shift they interpret the definition of sustainability as being too limiting. They instead introduce the term of sustainability– as–flourishing. This is basically a state in which an individual feels a sense of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shah Roll Number: 21 MA–I University of Mumbai Department of Applied Psychology and Counseling Centre Abstract Using the retrieval–practice paradigm (Anderson, R. A. Bjork, & E. L. Bjork, 1994), it was tested whether or not retrieval–induced forgetting could be found in item recognition test in terms of RT and accuracy. In this experiment retrieval practice on items from semantic categories depressed recognition of non–practiced items from the same categories reflected in terms of RT and accuracy. Also the results are consistent with the hypothesis that the accuracy in recognition of rp+ (Practiced items from practice categories) items will be highest followed by nrp (Unpracticed items for the unpracticed categories) items and lowest for rp– (Unpracticed items from the practiced categories) items. The reaction time in recognition task will be lowest for rp+ item followed by nrp items and highest for rp– items. Introduction Memory is power in which the mind stores and remembers information. Memory is a process in which information is encoded stored and retrieved for later usage. Forgetting is an apparent loss of information already encoded and stored in an individual's memory. Majority of programming language comes under one paradigm; contrary to this one could observe some languages having elements of multiple paradigms. To understand what they are we need to explain what each are and how they operate and what are the strengths and weaknesses of each. Now Procedural Programming languages are referred to as straight programming taking on a read from the top to the end method, whereas Object–Oriented programming use objects and classes. Procedural takes on applications by solving problems from using a top to down way reading the problem from the start and going through everything until the program is finished at the end (Eliason, 2015). So to see the scope of the two is to go into detail of what each does and how they function. Now Procedural you will provide step by step instructions and the program will run through everything throughout the process and solve the problem. Procedural was mainly used in the earlier programming languages, like COBOL or C (Gaddis, 2016). Object–Oriented languages use a different way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That mean we cut down on development time and changing the programme much easier. Recently the object orientated languages have been rising in popularity due to their ability to easily implement large programs. There are many different object orientated programming languages (OOPLs), among them are C#, Java, Ruby, and Python. This essay will compare and contrast two of these languages: Python and Java. OOPLs have been around since the 1960's (Deitel, Java How to Program). They handle tasks by viewing them as a group of different objects. Objects are created from a class which could be considered the blueprint. Objects contain data stored in fields, and the procedures which manipulate the data are known as methods. These objects can interact with each other. There are some key elements of OOPLs, such as code reusability. In OOPLs, through what is known as inheritance, code can be reused. Think of a cup, it is an object. It contains a liquid and overflows when it's full. If you wanted to program a coffee mug, wine glass, or sports bottle, you could reuse the code for a cup though inheritance, then add extra fields ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Programming Models Of Wsn System Research Proposal Title Programming Models of WSN System: A State–of–the–Art Survey Introduction There are a lot scenarios need different sensor nodes to collaborate and integrated on the air into networks to facilitate applications. The scaled–down censoring system presented below is an example of those wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this system sensors are different between corridors area and manufacturing area, since they need different precise level. Those sensors combined together by different wireless AP and provide services to different applications inside and outside the plant. This is where virtualization shines. Virtualization creates an uniformed environment in heterogeneous sensor networks. It bridge the gap between infrastructure and applications. And the network and sensor virtualization can achieved by the middleware. Middleware hide unnecessary details and complexity of the underlying heterogeneous infrastructures, like different sensor nodes and different wireless AP in the presented scenario. Software designs and programming approaches for the middleware design should facilitate the balance between communication and computing. Energy awareness, routing, efficient resource utilization and data delivery have always been the key parameters for an efficient programming model for WSN. Motivating Scenario Fig 1. A motivating example on dust–free manufacturing plant censoring. A simplified dust–free manufacturing plant censoring system is described below. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The article begins by examining the notion of paradigms and worldviews as currently used in the nursing literature and suggests that the concept of a single paradigm supports a philosophy inconsistent with nursing's goal of building knowledge on the nature of the human response. Next, the strength of plurality in nursing knowledge development, its warrantable evidence, and the concept of a unity of knowledge to support knowledge development and practice is articulated. Finally, the nursing practice implications of this perspective are discussed. Worldviews and Paradigms Worldviews and paradigms have been accepted in nursing as essential to researchers' theoretical perspectives, delineation of research questions, and ultimately to the selection of research methods. The search for a nursing paradigm as a means of knowledge development has been extensively reviewed in the nursing literature (Fawcett, 1995; Keywords: knowledge development, paradigm, warrantable evidence, worldview Downloaded from nsq.sagepub.com at UNIV OF KENTUCKY on September 4, 2012 244 Nursing Science Quarterly, 18:3, July 2005 and conversion. According to Kuhn, scientific knowledge is generated by preparadigm inquiry, ultimately leading to the endpoint of a defined paradigm, or a period of normal science. The scientific community defines the standards, beliefs, laws, and theory from which all scientists are to conduct themselves. During a

  • 40. The Sustainability Website, And There Are Some Positive... I have recently reviewed the UMass sustainability website, and there is some positive things that I have seen. There are also some things that could be improved upon. I will be discussing a number of different issues regarding communication of sustainability, and how UMass appears to be approaching those issues, as well as ways to improve our initiative. To begin with I would like to state that there is a difference between the dominant and ecological paradigm in the context of the sustainability initiative. The dominate paradigm is what values in a society that are most standard and widely held. Dominant paradigms are shaped both by the community 's cultural background. The ecological paradigm sees the current dominant paradigm as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If what they say in their first statement is true, this is a good step. Exploring and communicating ways to improve upon our communities practices, ideas, and technologies would fall into the new ecological paradigm. It would be an attempted to shift away from the dominant unsustainable paradigm. The next point mentioned in the mission statement is "We educate the campus community to create a healthier and more responsible environment". Education of a community is how a paradigm shift will happen. Education about what is unsustainable, why being unsustainable is harmful, and how to become more sustainable is absolutely vital in order to shift a community 's thoughts, ideas, and behaviors. Next the mission statement says that "We develop progressive solutions to reduce negative environmental impacts in ways that are economically beneficial". Solutions to reduce negative environmental impacts are what is needed in order to change from unsustainable to sustainable. Understanding problems won't help unless solutions to those problems are known. Lastly, the mission statement says that "We create and consistently advocate for a diverse & inclusive culture of sustainability throughout the campus community and beyond". By trying to create and advocate a culture of sustainability, they are also trying to shift the paradigms from the dominate to ecological. Based on the information provided by the mission statements, I would have to say ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Difference Between Object Oriented And Object-Driven... Unit 6 Assignment by Ali Shafiq (P1–P2) In programming, there are three different types of paradigms that we use in programming. And they are procedural, object–oriented and event–driven programming paradigms. Procedural Language Procedural programming is a programming paradigm which is derived from structured programming and it is based upon the concept of the procedure call such as where you can keep a record of procedure call programs. It's also a list or set of instructions telling a computer what to do step by step. Also tell the computer how to perform from the first code to the second code. The program can be broken into procedures or subroutines or functions such as Anglo, C and Pascal. Procedural programming uses a list of instruction to tell the computer what to do step by step. It relies on procedures, routines and sub–routine. The procedural contents of capitation of steps to be carry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Object–oriented programming is a programming language model organized around objects. And it represents the concept of object that has data fields. The Object–oriented programming is a type of language that is oriented around objects. They do not base their action on the logic that manipulate the object, but on object. By using object–oriented, you can solve problems. The object–oriented language is a type of programming that is kept in a single unit called object. Meaning that the only way user can access the data is by using the objects methods. This can insure that the user will be incapable of corrupting the object and also internal working can be changed without corrupting the code using the object. Some of the limitations for this programming language are that you have to do most of the task manually. Object oriented programming is also limited with low amount of functions as comparing to low programming that interacts directly with hardware. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
