1. How does your
media product
represent
particular social
groups?
By Bobbie Wallder
2. What is ‘The Fantastagirls’
representing?
In our media product, the
social groups that have been
represented are via the young
females included. In our title
sequence, we wanted the
audience to notice the
portrayal, positive outlook
towards the females. We did
this because our target
audience is intended to be
targeted at a younger age
group, meaning that we
would need to represent
model type females in some
way where a younger girl
could idolize them.
3. In our title sequence, we strongly represented a
positive and stereotypical elements towards the
female superhero characters. For example, this
can be shown in the opening where the
audience would see a the characters getting
ready in the morning; this includes showering,
doing their hair, eating breakfast, doing their
makeup and getting dressed. We have included
this in the sequence, setting up a stereotypical
example of girls. We have conducted a sense of
realism via the ‘fantastairls’ as the younger
audience would feel they are just as ‘normal’ as
the superheroes.
4.
Social groups have been represented through
the use of girl power. The stereotype has been
constructed and portrayed to the audience via
the use of realism; the girls are shown getting
up in the morning, getting ready and eating
breakfast. This sends a message to the set
target audience that any ‘normal’ girl or boy
can be a superhero. However in the last shots
we see the characters in their costumes, and
presented in a superior way. This is showing the
normal codes and conventions of a typical
superhero.
