Magazine evaluation question
1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. Regarding my magazine, it is clear to see how it develops real media
conventions concerning the layout and the theme of the film. The theme of
the film is a UK drama based in the suburbs, but finding a magazine that
incorporates the same type of film we were creating and that also manages
to look respectable was extremely difficult.
3. The main UK film magazines were
Empire and Studio, the common
theme in these magazines were that
they all had a main character
featuring in the main cover of the
magazine. This is a good marketing
tool as it draws people to want to
buy the magazine, especially if it
was a character that they
recognised or felt they had a
relationship with. So what I decided
to do was to use the main character
in my film and to put them into
front page of my magazine.
4. I wanted to present m y character as being
someone that is so extremely glamorous
and very known in the acting world, just
like they did tin Empire magazine and
Studio magazine. To do this I dressed her
nicely and fashionably because I knew that
is what would draw readers to want to buy
the magazine.
Something else that I used in the making of
my magazine was the film title. One of the
most common film magazines in the world
Is total film. I wanted to use this name for
my magazine to make it more known.
5. However the ways in which I challenged real media conventions regarding
the type of film I was creating was the clothing that my model was wearing.
There were not many examples to go by on the subject of my film magazine,
so I had to improvise. I wanted her to look glamorous, so I looked at
different glamorous models and actors.
6. The pictures I found that stood out to me were of women wearing newspapers which
denoted how famous they were. We wanted our film magazine to be unique as possible
and to stand out, so I made a piece of clothing for my model out of newspaper.
7. Usually film of my theme would not incorporate this type of magazine in
any magazine. Many of the films that we looked for inspiration in the
making of our film, did not have the budget to feature in other magazines,
which made it hard to find inspiration whilst making the film. However, the
inspiration that I found was in fact very helpful and I did take aspects of it
whilst making my magazine cover.
