Editor's Notes
After gaining permission, we planted common milkweed in the area 1 closest to the building. A few years later, another area (area 5) was established with swamp milkweed. The other areas 1-3 and 5 are for nectar sources for any pollinator who visits. Area 4 is a fern garden.
PRS sees about 100,000 visitors a year, so the focus of this project is to teach visitors as well as volunteers about what’s in the garden and why its there. We stop whatever we are working on to talk to people who are interested in these gardens, but a lot of the time, visitors want to talk about their own gardens which is educational as well.
