A clever title will often make the difference between a reader
clicking on your content and scrolling past. It could even be the
most important element of your content.
A Buzzsumo study of over 100 million headlines revealed 3 top
phrases to include in headlines for the best results. These phrases are:
'will make you'; 'this is why'; and 'can we guess'.
One of the bottom phrases from the survey was 'what happened next'. This is
interesting to note, since Facebook are clamping down on clickbait posts and
readers are turned off by this kind of phrase!
Readers should be able to engage with your content. The easiest way to make sure that
happens is to evoke an emotional response. The phrase 'will make you' performs very
well in terms of emotional impact.
Headlines should catch your reader's attention and make them want to learn
more. However, be careful that you are not making false promises or you may fall
foul of the new anti-clickbait algorithm.
