1. I decided to add a large picture onto the cover because a lot of
the magazines I looked at used one image that covered the
majority of the page and had no other images. I used my
masthead at the top because most of the magazines I looked at
had them at the top away from the cover lines so the
text was not all grouped together. I decided to only put titles on
the cover lines rather than have text underneath explaining
because the title was self-explanatory. The colour sides at the
sides of the cover are there to have the colours of the school on
there and to stop the cover being just an image.
On the contents page I added the title “contents page” and a
table of contents as not a lot of the magazine I looked at actually
used a contents page and instead opted to have a letter from
principals or editors which is quite often just a wall of text that is
not appealing to look at and probably only glanced at. The table
of contents allows someone to find what they want quickly and
go to it. The images on the contents page were there because in
the magazines I saw there were pictures on this particular page
and it stops the page being all text.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine represents two social
groups, the sixth form social group and
the music social group. It does this
through images and headlines / articles
3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My school would publish and distribute my
magazine because they are in charge of
bringing a magazine to parents and students
every month.
4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for my magazine would be
students at my school, their parents and
teachers at my school. The magazine is
about what has happened in my school and
so it is something that would interest them
more than someone who isn't associated
with the school.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience by using images of
different things. I also included colours to balance
images and text. Another thing I did was use
different fonts to make the text more interesting.
6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I learnt how to use the layers in photoshop
effectively. I also learnt how to convert files into
different types so that I could upload them to my
blog. I learnt how to use the sites to upload files to
my blog.
