The document discusses how the opening addresses and attracts the intended audience for a film. Specifically:
- The opening introduces the hero and villain characters through camera angles, visuals, and their personalities and behaviors to make a first impression on the audience.
- The female audience will be attracted to both the likeable hero and mysterious bad boy villain. They will find the hero charming and the villain intriguing.
- The male audience may also be drawn to the villain, as seen with popular villain characters.
- The unique psychological plot twist, where the hero and villain personalities are one person, would most intrigue audiences and differentiate it from other superhero films.
2. In terms of addressing the audience, a mixture of
sound, camera angles, and mise en scene were
used in introducing the characters.
When first viewing a character we judge them just
like we do when first are introduced to someone in
person. Therefore as many connotations as possible
are needed for the audience to get the intended
message.
3. The Female Audience
The female audience viewing our opening are I think going to be
attracted to both the personalities. The Hero obviously had to be
likeable as he is the antagonist of the film. In the opening he is
portrayed to be sweet and charitable. The way he address his
girlfriend impacts on the way the audience to perceive him. With
him being such a powerful individual, and with such shy body
language girls will find him to be a charming character.
4. The reason I feel the female audience will most likely like the
Villain personality is because he has a very bad boy attitude.
His dark and mysterious ways, and not letting on to his
emotions would attract the more pitying girl who would be
desperate to gain his affection. As I’ve previously said this
character would attract the more alternative group.
5. From previously looking into the female audiences
for comic book action films I discovered the age
range is really quite small. The ages who most watch
these films are between 16 and 28. However with
our subgenre, psychological, the age may be able to
be bumped up to around 45 as more older women
are interested in this type of film.
6. Mise en Scene
The mise en scene engages with audiences curiosity in the
Villain scene by the images of clocks and plans that are not
normal to our lives.
A contrast with this is the comfortable
setting of that of the Hero’s home that
consists of everyday items that most likely
The audience wont acknowledge.
7. The Male Audience
I think for the male audience, some may take the Villain side
more than the Hero’s despite the conventions. From getting
feedback from some of the male audience that like and watch
these type of action films, many have admitted to liking the
Villain just as much as the Hero. In “The Dark Knight” I’ve
personally herd the Joker spoken about more frequently than
Batman.
8. The Plot.
It is the unique plot line that would attract our audience most of
all. When looking at other psychological such as Fight Club it is
the fact one of the main characters is a figment of the others
imagination, a twist in the plot not introduced till late on in the
film.
9. In the superhero world it is unheard of that the hero also has
the personality of the villain. Even in “Hulk” the monster is
portrayed as the protagonist. This backs up my previous
statement of the male audience possibly liking the villain in our
film as the Hulk is an extremely aggressive character.
10. Improvements
With our plot being quite difficult to show clearly in 2 minutes, it
would have been much better to have had 5 minutes to show
an opening. I personally feel that watching the first 2 minutes of
any film isn’t going to be long enough for an audience to grasp
the concept of the film.
Another idea would have been to a trailer appose to an
opening. This would have aloud for a clear explanation of what
the film is about, codes and conventions could be clearly
identified by the audiace.
