Reflection Of The Book Of Revelation
The book of Revelation opens with an astonishing glimpse of future events that Jesus revealed to
John. God gave Jesus the revelation, and Jesus sent the revelation to His servant John by an angel.
In this opening scene of Revelation, John heard a mighty voice behind him speaking to him. When
he turned to see who was speaking he saw a graphic view of seven candlesticks with a man standing
amid them. The display of seven candlesticks and the One in the middle of them was significant to
the totality of the vision that John received to be written down for an everlasting record of the things
that must certainly come to pass for all believers. John, the servant of Jesus Christ, had been exiled
on the Isle of Patmos because of his witness and testimony of the word of God, and because of his
all–embracing commitment to Jesus. He proclaimed that he was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day
when he heard a mighty, powerful voice speaking behind him. Upon hearing the voice, he
immediately gave heed to the direction of the voice and saw seven candlesticks and the One
standing in the midst of them. The significance of the candlesticks was that they were symbolic of
the seven churches that were in Asia. The Lord assigned John the task of writing to the seven
churches and reporting the revelation to them that was divulged to him by Jesus. Jesus analyzed
each of the churches and revealed to John a status report of His findings. The very candid reports,
whether good or bad,

My Thoughts On My Life
My Mom–Mom used to tell us that if you want to make God laugh, you should tell Him your plans.
I did not fully understand that when she said it but I absolutely do now. The last few weeks have
been tumultuous for me to say the least. In the midst of my "going through" I have also experienced
God in ways I don 't think I could ever fully describe. What I am learning is that even in the midst of
going through it 's not hard to see God 's hand at work in your life. I am also learning that even in
the midst of our challenges God is with us and for that we can be thankful. I can tell you that this
time for me has not been without tears or frustration but here are a few things that I have learned
along the way and hopefully it will help you. God is with you. As I note in my book, Trusting God,
God is really with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. "You alone know when I sit down
and when I get up. You read my thoughts from far away. You watch me when I travel and when I
rest. You are familiar with all my ways. Even before there is a ⌊single⌋ word on my tongue, you
know all about it, Lord. You are all around me–in front of me and in back of me. You lay your hand
on me. ~ Psalm 139:2–5 God's Word Translation. David declares in this Psalm that God is with us al
l the time; He is familiar with our thoughts; He knows us. God has put in you everything you need

Joy Rhetorical Analysis
When people think of gifts, they often think of material items such as jewelry, perfume, or a new
phone. Gifts do not have to be tangible objects but, instead, may be feelings that are shared.
Sharing a feeling with another person is a gift that both individuals benefit from. SC Johnson is a
family owned company that has been operating since 1886. The company promotes the importance
of family and integrity and believes in respecting each person as an individual (Johnson). Everyone
deserves to feel joy and experience kindness and love from others. SC Johnson promotes through
their product, Glade, one of the greatest gifts of all, joy. Everyone desires to be loved. No matter the

Christmas season is most definitely associated with feelings of warmth and joy. The audience is able
to relate and reminisce about the wonder and excitement of Christmas. Continuing on, in the midst
of all the joy, remembering those who have passed on and will not be present for Christmas is a part
of life. Seeing the way the old man yearned for his deceased wife as he sat alone in his dark house
stirs up feeling of loss and sadness. joy is one of the most powerful emotions, and this emotion can
be shared with others. joy is a beautiful gift, and like the woman shared the gift of joy with the old
man, each person has the opportunity to continue to share the gift of joy with others. Joy and
sadness are two of the strongest human emotions. The appeal towards feeling both joy and sadness
was incredibly effective. Humans are emotional creatures who are able to relate to the pain and
happiness of others. Watching another person feel the agony of loss, as well as, experience the
kindness of another individual, brings about memories and connections to those emotions.
Displaying feelings of both joy and sadness was a magnification of the way human's emotional

Examples Of Geraniums In To Kill A Mockingbird
"What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness". As John
Steinbeck states in his novel, Travels With Charley: In Search of America, warmth in summer would
not be as enjoyable as it is if there is no cold in the winter. Similarly, in Harper Lee's novel, To Kill
A Mockingbird, Lee uses the motif of flowers to signify hope in the midst of life's hardships. Two
examples of this are Mayella Ewell's geraniums, and Mrs. Dubose's camellias. Mayella Ewell's
geraniums symbolize her hopes for a better future, one which is much more ordinary and beautiful.
Despite Mayella Ewell's situation, she wishes to be more than her surroundings. "Against the fence,

People said they were Mayella Ewell's" (17.195). Mayella Ewell plants the geraniums in the Ewell
household in order to see something of quality happening in her life. Furthermore, the geraniums
represent a need for beauty in Mayella Ewell's life, and a need to brighten the lives of those around
her. "A young girl walked to the witness stand. As she raised her hand and swore that the evidence
she gave would be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help her God, she seemed
somehow fragile–looking, but when she sat facing us in the witness chair she became what she was,
a thick–bodied girl accustomed to strenuous labor"(18.204). Geraniums symbolize esteem and
gentility in the world of flowers. Similarly, Mayella Ewell symbolizes esteem and gentility by being
strong despite being poor. "I got somethin' to say an' then I ain't gonna say no more. That nigger

Verbal Analysis : Verbal Tracking
Verbal tracking is another skill I would like to say is one of my strengths. I understand the
importance of listening. This is the one skill that I have tried to hone. At first I noticed myself
interjecting my own ideas and stories, taking over conversations and making them about me. When I
became aware of this, I began listening more to others. Verbal tracking has made me a better listener
and I feel that I am better at following my client's train of thought. Limitations Though I have
strengths, I am aware of my various limitations. To being with, I willingly admit that I am not great
at challenging others during a counseling session. At times I do not know how to challenge the
individual. In the past I have come off judgmental and pushy. This has caused me to become more
passive when counseling others. At times I can come off as being "too zealous." I am in the process
of learning how to curb these tendencies. I have come to understand that people have differing
levels of spiritual growth and I cannot make them change. Only God, by grace through the Holy
Spirit is able to do such a work. I need to grow in the skill of interpreting and summarizing. I find
that I am too busy focusing on other skill. I have started to take notes as I implement the skill of
active listening. The notes have helped me keep track of verbals and non–verbals during the
conversation, allowing me to be more effective in summarizing and interpreting at the end of the
sessions. Biblical

The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
Beauty Is Everywhere Can light shine in complete darkness? In other words, can something
beautiful exist in the midst of malevolent influences? Most people would say no, that beauty can't be
found in the midst of these influences. However, wherever there is hope and faith, there will be
beauty. Beauty is everywhere, beauty can be found in people based off their looks. Beauty can be
found in people based on their morals, ethics and the decisions they make. Beauty has no bounds,
beauty can be found in everything, even the darkest places. One must have to be willing to look hard
enough to find it. In Cormac McCarthy's "The Road", the setting is America in a post–apocalyptic
state. The world as the characters knew it was gone. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In today 's world there are situations in which something dark and terrible occurs. This is where we
can see beautiful happen in the midst of malevolent influences in the present day. Take the recent
terrorist attacks in Paris, France for example. The Jihadist terrorist group sent a well trained team to
carry out coordinated attacks on different populated areas in Paris they succeeded. At least 130
people were killed and the city was in shock. However, beauty still made its way through the
darkness people came together, people wanted to help one another, people showed faith and hope,
countries came together. These are examples of beauty. No, it 's not a physical beauty, but it 's more
of an emotional/mental or social beauty. Knowing that people are willing to be there for others no
matter how dark of a situation they are in is a very beautiful thing. Now, this modern example hits
home for many other Americans. Next example is 9/11. Sure everyone is aware of what happened
on September 11, 2001, It was a dark time for our country. Once again beauty shined through the
people who risked their lives to save others in the towers and through the new Trade center and
Ground Zero memorial. No matter how dark the situation is, as long as people are willing to stand
up and help others and faith is maintained beauty will always shine through. The above examples
are used in this essay because the have a connection to

Suitors In The Odyssey
Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey" tells of the Greek hero Odysseus's journeys in order to get back
home. It also tells of the struggles of his son, Telemachus, at the hands of the men who want to court
his mother, Penelope. Much of the book is comprised of hearing about Penelope's struggle with
these "suitors" who persistently push her to choose one of them to marry. Though Odysseus had
been gone for more than 20 years and everyone assumed he was dead, Penelope remained faithful to
her husband and dutifully resisted the suitors. Therefore, I am convinced that Penelope was a superb
example of faithfulness that every woman (and man) can look at to see how one should act while
married.
First, Penelope did not give in to some of the wealthiest and

Frederick Douglass Syntax Analysis
Slavery is a topic very capable of putting an emotional weight on a person. This is even more so for
those that have actually experienced it first–hand. Frederick Douglass, one of the more influential
African–Americans in history, himself, was once a slave. He experienced everything that comes
with being a slave in first–person. All the wickedness, hardships, and mental and physical damage,
that came with being a slave, were experienced by him. Frederick is able to experience freedom
after taking the step himself and escaping slavery. After what is almost an entire life of slavery, one
would expect him to have many thoughts floating in his mind about his new found freedom. In the
passage from the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass use figures of speech and
syntax, and repetition of key phrases to convey his feelings of excitement, insecurity, and loneliness
from escaping slavery and arriving in New York in 1838. Through use of figures of speech and
syntax, Douglass clearly conveys his feelings of excitement, excitement, insecurity, ... Show more

after escaping slavery. During the slavery part of his life, he at least had a few people to keep him
company, so this is somewhat new to him. He was feeling very insecure but "dared not to unfold" to
any of his fellow African–Americans his "sad condition." Douglass states that he was "in the midst
of houses, yet having no home." Like loneliness, having no place to call home was somewhat new
to him. Douglass is "without home", "without friends", and "without money". Although he is now

In doing so, this will give employees a chance to contribute and promote cross talk about Lancaster–
Webb's products. This would be a great opportunity for Glove Girl to head this effort.
● Set clear standards: Having recognized the positive impact of blogging and also the risks
involved, the company needs to establish some clear guidelines for blogging. Lancaster–Webb

Frederick Douglass Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Slavery is a horrible condition. In the Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Frederick
Douglass tells his story of growing up as a slave and then becoming a freeman. Douglass speaks of
the horrors of slavery and the beauty of freedom. Douglass uses figures of speech, diction, and
repetition to convey his feelings of excitement, insecurity and loneliness on escaping from slavery
and arriving in New York in 1838.
Frederick Douglass uses Metaphors and similes to express his feelings of excitement, insecurity and
loneliness. Douglass thinks about how he felt when he found himself in a free state. Douglass says
he felt like a "unarmed mariner" that was "rescued by a friendly man–of–war from the pursuit of a

Rhetorical Analysis Of Frederick Douglass
In this selection from the "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave",
Frederick Douglass vividly describes his feelings about being a newly liberated fugitive slave. In
doing this, he describes the different emotions he felt. Saying that out of the joy also came distrust.
He was happy that he was not a slave anymore but could not trust a soul, for the white man would
immediately take him back to the horrible life of a slave and the black man might stab him in the
back and rat him out for money, and therefore was in absolute confusion about what to do, where to
go, or where to stay. On arriving to this new environment he had mixed feelings of happiness and
loneliness; he is able to convey these feelings through syntax such as repetition, figurative language
such as similes and metaphors, and with diction and tone that both give the reader negative feelings
about the state of Douglass's situation. In the beginning of the excerpt Douglass speaks of how he
has never been able to tell his story of being newly liberated with great satisfaction, foreshadowing
the fact that he will go on to do so in the succeeding lines. He claims that he was ebullient, feeling
excitement he had never experienced before, comparing himself to a mariner who had been saved
by a friendly man of war from the pursuit of pirates, as well as alluding to the biblical story of
Daniel. "I suppose felt as one may imagine the unarmed mariner to feel when he is rescued by a
friendly man

although Bertolt's quote was not the exact same and both creators obviously did not know each

books have the power to change one's perspective therefore the poor man and the rich king despite

I don't really subscribe to that scenario but let's presume it was. The disciples then would have been
perfectly entitled to be scared because this would have been something they had never experienced
before. They needed help – probably just someone else to help bail out the boat, possibly someone
to steer or help with the sails bit no, Jesus was busy sleeping through it all. They would need
everyone to pitch in but instead Jesus rebukes the storm, to be "Quiet! Be still!". The disciples were
looking for human help but what they got was divine authority. They were looking for a hand. What
they got was a God. They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the

Indian Foreign Policy: Non Alignment in the midst of the Cold War
At the onset of the cold war, the world was rapidly developing into two hostile camps, one
dominated by the west – most particularly by the US – and the other by the USSR. The two
superpowers differed only by ideology, the US with capitalism and the USSR with communism, but
both sought to aggressively spread their ideologies and expand their spheres of influence to other
sovereign nations. No means was spared in this expansion, the use of military force, moral and
economic pressure and security blocs were all commonly used to subjugate other nations. After
World War Two, Europe was sufficiently polarized, any further expansion along the preset borders

Though non–alignment may not be an invention of Gandhi, it does carry three notable trademarks
that bear resemblance to the teachings of his. Firstly it is born of morality; in that Gandhi's struggle
for freedom was a moral one . Secondly it is completely transparent, in that Gandhi's struggle was
completely open, and where even disobedience (although peaceful) was never kept in secret. Thirdly
it maintains peace by refraining from evil, in that Gandhi never refused to hold out a hand of
friendship for anyone even for those who opposed him. According to S.B Jain "A moral tone, a
friendly but fearless approach, a polite but firm refusal to submit to evil with a temper of peace and
a spirit of cooperation – all these were the legacies of the Gandhian Age and they were bound to be
projected in India's policies."
After India gained independence from British rule, Jawaharlal Nehru and his Congress party came
into power, and openly laid down the principles of non–alignment for the first time. Nehru talked
about the independent approach which was needed to be taken by India, an approach towards
international problems, self–development that would be free from outside interference, whether
from allies or enemies. He spoke of non–alignment as the next step in war of liberation against the
evils of imperialism and colonialism, followed by a stage of complete economic

Midst Of Weakness Essay
God: There in the Midst of Weakness It was my senior year of high school in the small town of
Gardendale, Alabama. This was the year the girls varsity soccer team was expected to go all the way
to the finals, and make a hard run at the state championship title. We had made it to the third round,
and after this game we were heading north to Huntsville, Alabama for the quarter finals. Except, in
an instant, this all changed after one practice, two days before our game, when our principal showed
up with some heartbreaking news. We no longer had a shot at the championship title because
someone on our team had broken the rules; therefore, we had been kicked out of the playoffs. This
filled me with anger, hatred, and resentment towards that one person. I became a very bitter version
of myself until God showed me a new path to walk down in the following week. My story beings on
the Friday night before our first playoff game. My dad asked me to go to our city soccer fields to get
a corner flag for the game tomorrow at the school. When I got to the fields one of my best friends
texts me and says, "Hey! Are high school players allowed to play on teams other than the high
school team?" I was confused. No they are definitely not, but was she talking about one of my
teammates or someone we were supposed to play against? I storm out onto the field to see if I know
who is breaking such a big rule and my mind is blown when I see one of my own teammates out on
the field playing. So much is running through my mind, "Do I say something to her? Do I tell my
coach? What will this do to our chances of playing in the championship?" All these thoughts, yet I
stand on the field frozen from anger at the fact that this person thinks it's okay to break a rule in
order to benefit herself. So I did what anyone like me would do and I confronted her, "Do you really
think it is okay that you are out here playing when our high school season is still going on?" She
stares at me with no emotion on her face, says absolutely nothing, and just walks away acting as if
she had done no wrong. I left the fields that night with all those questions about what to do still
circling about in my mind and some new thoughts popping up, "I am the only

How Do Humans Organise Themselves Through The Midst Of Chaos?
How do humans organise themselves in the midst of chaos?
The film 'Day of the Triffids', directed by Nick Copus, and the novel, 'Lord of the Flies', written by
William Goulding, shows that when humans are faced with the prospect of chaos, most lean towards
anarchy. However, some are able to hold onto the civilization that exists within themselves.
Although Copus and Goulding stories revolve around different scenarios, they shared the key
distinction of keeping their underlying themes similar to one another. This is shown continuously
throughout the two texts, when the characters are faced with making moral decisions, the way in
which the characters may or may not attempt to survive, and the power, as well as corruption, that

This makes Ralph the single remaining symbol of civilization within the text. Jack, who is the
symbol of anarchy within the text, wants to be rid of Ralph, and by extension, civilization.
Therefore, in choosing to kill Ralph, he solidifies himself as the morally unacceptable character. It
shows that when faced with the possibility of chaos, the few purely good characters were able to
remain loyal to civilization, while those who were not loyal to civilization, turn to anarchy and
chaos.
Survival is a highly prominent theme within the two texts. It is a primal human drive, and both texts
drive home the question 'how far would you go to survive?' However, the way that they do so is in
complete difference to one another. In 'Day of the Triffids', one of the first scenes that the audience
is greeted with after the meteor shower, is the suicide of the doctor. This man has lost his survival
instinct. He believes that now that he is blind, there is nothing left in the world for him. This scene
poses another question, do only the strong survive anarchy? In 'Lord of the Flies', we see
consistently that Jack and his tribe turn to blood thirst and savagery. Their actions result in the
deaths of others. Jack does this mostly because he believes that it is necessary for his survival, as
well as the survival of others. He loses sight of the laws of

The Grapes of Wrath
The Grapes of Wrath: Beauty in the Midst of Hopelessness
The Grapes of Wrath portrays life at its darkest. It is the story of migrant workers and the hardships
and heartbreaks that they experience as they are driven from their land – the land that they have
lived on for generations – so the banks can make a profit.
Sure, cried the tenant men, but it's our land. We measured it and broke it up. We were born on it, and
we got killed on it, died on it. That's what makes it ours – being born on it, working it, dying on it.
That makes ownership, not a paper with numbers on it (p.45).
Steinbeck follows the Joad family as they leave their farm to forge a new life in the land of
opportunity – California – where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no "happy ending" – when the book ends, Ma Joad's pride and joy, Tom, leaves because he
has killed a man and cannot stay with his family without endangering them as well as himself. Rose
of Sharon has just miscarried, and the Joads are driven by flooding from a temporarily happy home
in a boxcar town. It seems as if the book has ended at a very uncomfortable and depressing point,
but that is not the case. After spending over 600 pages getting to know the Joads, a reader has the
sense that nothing can crush their indomitable spirit – that they will always go on, no matter how
bad the circumstances are.
This is what I find fascinating about the book – the strength of the people who are put through
horrendous conditions. They are driven from their homes, forced to live in a half–starved, miserable
existence; yet they survive. Perhaps my favorite character in The Grapes of Wrath is Ma Joad. She
seems to me to be the strongest and most steadfast character in the novel, and I admire her.
Throughout all of the hardships that the Joads have to endure, Ma stands tall and proud, a pillar of
strength that holds her family to–gether. Her overriding concern throughout the book is that the
family has to stay to–gether. She says more than once, "It ain't good for folks to break up" (p.225),
and that belief brings her out of the role of obedient wife to that of a woman who will even resort to
physical conflict to get her way. At one point in the

Examples Of Pathos In Frederick Douglass
In former social reformer and abolitionist, Frederick Douglass' monologue, he asserts that slavery is
utterly immoral and has far negative implication, not only for slaves themselves, but for the nation
as a whole. He also narrates his personal experience as a slave and his emotions after his escape. In
his monologue, Douglass uses two rhetorical devices, in order to strengthen his position on slavery.
The two main rhetorical devices: pathos and parallelism, are universally considered as necessary
tools of persuasion in literature.
Pathos is the appeal to feelings and emotions. In the beginning of Douglass' monologue, he recalled,
"the wretchedness of slavery, and the blessedness of freedom, were perpetually before me. It was

The Slopes Of War By. Perez
In the historical fiction novel The Slopes of War by N.A. Perez, the author illustrates the gruesome
battle that befell the little market town of Gettysburg during the Civil War through the various
perspectives of all the people whom were immersed and affected. These people included young men
fighting, generals arguing about their plans and tactics, and innocent citizens who aided causalities
regardless of what color their uniform happened to be. Perspectives from both the Confederate and
Union armies are offered in the text to grasp a better understanding of all the thoughts occurring
throughout the entire battle, as well as before and after. Throughout the novel, Perez elucidates the
emotional and physical aspects of war the people endured, such as traumatizing, graphic images that
can serve as bad omens, and loss of loved ones. Also, the book further explains what war truly
signified, which was death. The positive results and overall effects of the war as described in the
novel, however, somewhat outweighs the negative causes and struggles. In the book Crispin written
by Avi, there is a particular quote in the novel on the first page in which reads, "In the midst of life
comes death, in the midst of death comes life." This quote can be related to the novel in numerous
ways, and can be applied to life in general, too.

Research Paper On Grandmother
One Life at a Time
"If my story can make the difference in just one person's life, just one, I know I will have fulfilled
my purpose on this earth." This mentality encompasses the true nature of heroism– the desire to
impact the world for good without the need for affirmation or recognition. My grandmother, or
Nanny, as she is affectionately called, has faced many challenges throughout her lifetime. Despite
her troubled childhood, battle with depression, and years of illness, she courageously approaches
each day with optimism and courage. Nannie comes face to face with "Grendel" everyday and is a

Analysis Of The Book ' The Midst Of The Wearables ' Essay
Microsoft Band In the Midst of the Wearables Joshua Pauly December 11, 2014 San Diego
Christian College Executive Summary This research proposal explores scholarly journals, internet
articles, and my personal thoughts and ideas on the smartwatch, fitness band, and wearable market
segment. I am proposing to obtain research on whether or not the Microsoft Band among other
smart wrist wearables are currently and, if so, will continue to be desirable technological
advancements in the market. Wrist Wearables are a fairly new market segment and they are mostly
only marketed to a niche audience. With less than half the U.S. population with any knowledge of
the existence of smart wearables and half of that population even considering buying one, the
marketability for this technology appears slim. Although, the potential for brand awareness, along
with customer loyalty, is huge and a beneficial opportunity for any company to get their hands on.
All this said, I believe the Microsoft Band has a step up on the other wrist wearables in that it
combines the smart watch functionality with the fitness tracker capabilities into one smart wrist
wearable. Also, it is compatible with all the major phone systems which makes its market segment
expand even greater. With this amount of flexibility, I believe the Microsoft band will be a potential
competitor to be reckoned with, even with the soon to be released iWatch. Table of Contents

various art techniques without a strong academic background. She did not acquire a formal

2. The two main policy issues in urban education related to the two themes I mentioned are the
Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 and the No Child Left Behind Act
(NCLB). The Disability act prohibits discrimination based on disabilities in areas that receive
Federal funding. The reason this act is important is because through privatization a loop hold has
been found. Charter schools are public schools that are controlled independently making them like
private schools. For instance, in Michigan where DeVos played a major role in the charter schools
program, for–profit companies run the charters schools and she donated $1 million to lawmakers
that helped oppose new oversight of charters (Carey, 2016). Charter schools receive their funding
based on their test scores so they do not seek out students that may hinder their scores, like students
with disabilities, so these kids may be ignored or taken out of charter schools (Ravitch, 2014,
p.160). Consequently, this acts as a loophole to disability discrimination that must be fixed.

The Human Spirit In The Moon Is Down By John Steinbeck
Everyone, including some of the greatest and strongest beings known to mankind, has the ability to
overcome and stay strong in the midst of adversity. This strength and "backbone" of the soul is the
human spirit. The human spirit allows for the ability of overcome and remain strong in the midst of
adversity. In the novel The Moon is Down, the play Antigone and in the poem Invictus, the human
spirit gives the characters the ability to overcome oppression and have strength. Although each work
is set in a different era, the strength of the human spirit remains prevalent. The human spirit gives
individuals the ability to have determination and display strength in the midst of adversity and
oppression; both of which are exemplified throughout the life of every individual. In the novel The
Moon is Down by John Steinbeck, the townspeople demonstrate the power of human spirit through
their active resistance against the invading soldiers. At the beginning of the novel, the town is
invaded by Nazi soldiers, and the townspeople are caught off guard. Despite the fact that the Nazis
believe the townspeople will openly accept them, the townspeople do the opposite and actively
resist their orders. The first act of rebellion against the soldiers, which inspired many of the other
townspeople to also stand in opposition to the invaders, occurs when, "From the doorway came the

Allusions Of Allusions In Blake's The Garden Of Love
Short exercise paper #1 Blake's lyrical poem "The Garden of Love" contains several allusions that
reference the first book in the Bible "Genesis". During this paper, I will be discussing one instance
where Blake's poem alludes to Genesis 3. To summarize, there are several instances in which
Blake's poem "The Garden of Love" alludes to Genesis, of these I chose to focus on the 'chapel'
built in the midst and its connection to Eve's interaction with the Serpent.
Blake's poem begins with the speaker visiting the "Garden of Love" during which they discover, "A
chapel was built in the midst." The speaker points out that this 'chapel' is "built/where I used to
play" all of this happens during the first stanza. The speaker does not indicate they watched the
'chapel' built in fact; the speaker almost seems shocked by its presence, "saw what I had never seen"
and it becomes clear whatever this 'chapel' is it has altered how the speaker will continue to interact
with the garden, "built in the midst/where I used to play on the green". It is important to realize this
'chapel' not only altered the garden itself, but also, has essentially replaced the green so; instead of
play, there is this 'chapel'.
During the third book of Genesis, a dialogue happens concerning Eve and the Serpent. The Serpent
questions Eve about the garden to which she replies, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees...But of
the fruit of the tree which is in the midst...Ye shall not eat...lest ye die" (Genesis 3:3). To

Reflection Of The Book Of Revelation

  • 1. Reflection Of The Book Of Revelation The book of Revelation opens with an astonishing glimpse of future events that Jesus revealed to John. God gave Jesus the revelation, and Jesus sent the revelation to His servant John by an angel. In this opening scene of Revelation, John heard a mighty voice behind him speaking to him. When he turned to see who was speaking he saw a graphic view of seven candlesticks with a man standing amid them. The display of seven candlesticks and the One in the middle of them was significant to the totality of the vision that John received to be written down for an everlasting record of the things that must certainly come to pass for all believers. John, the servant of Jesus Christ, had been exiled on the Isle of Patmos because of his witness and testimony of the word of God, and because of his all–embracing commitment to Jesus. He proclaimed that he was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day when he heard a mighty, powerful voice speaking behind him. Upon hearing the voice, he immediately gave heed to the direction of the voice and saw seven candlesticks and the One standing in the midst of them. The significance of the candlesticks was that they were symbolic of the seven churches that were in Asia. The Lord assigned John the task of writing to the seven churches and reporting the revelation to them that was divulged to him by Jesus. Jesus analyzed each of the churches and revealed to John a status report of His findings. The very candid reports, whether good or bad, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. My Thoughts On My Life My Mom–Mom used to tell us that if you want to make God laugh, you should tell Him your plans. I did not fully understand that when she said it but I absolutely do now. The last few weeks have been tumultuous for me to say the least. In the midst of my "going through" I have also experienced God in ways I don 't think I could ever fully describe. What I am learning is that even in the midst of going through it 's not hard to see God 's hand at work in your life. I am also learning that even in the midst of our challenges God is with us and for that we can be thankful. I can tell you that this time for me has not been without tears or frustration but here are a few things that I have learned along the way and hopefully it will help you. God is with you. As I note in my book, Trusting God, God is really with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. "You alone know when I sit down and when I get up. You read my thoughts from far away. You watch me when I travel and when I rest. You are familiar with all my ways. Even before there is a ⌊single⌋ word on my tongue, you know all about it, Lord. You are all around me–in front of me and in back of me. You lay your hand on me. ~ Psalm 139:2–5 God's Word Translation. • 3. Joy Rhetorical Analysis When people think of gifts, they often think of material items such as jewelry, perfume, or a new phone. Gifts do not have to be tangible objects but, instead, may be feelings that are shared. Sharing a feeling with another person is a gift that both individuals benefit from. SC Johnson is a family owned company that has been operating since 1886. The company promotes the importance of family and integrity and believes in respecting each person as an individual (Johnson). Everyone deserves to feel joy and experience kindness and love from others. SC Johnson promotes through their product, Glade, one of the greatest gifts of all, joy. Everyone desires to be loved. No matter the personality, authentic love from someone else is truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Glade's motto is "feel joy. The commercial radiated with euphoric moments and a warm glow. The Christmas season is most definitely associated with feelings of warmth and joy. The audience is able to relate and reminisce about the wonder and excitement of Christmas. Continuing on, in the midst of all the joy, remembering those who have passed on and will not be present for Christmas is a part of life. Seeing the way the old man yearned for his deceased wife as he sat alone in his dark house stirs up feeling of loss and sadness. joy is one of the most powerful emotions, and this emotion can be shared with others. joy is a beautiful gift, and like the woman shared the gift of joy with the old man, each person has the opportunity to continue to share the gift of joy with others. Joy and sadness are two of the strongest human emotions. The appeal towards feeling both joy and sadness was incredibly effective. Humans are emotional creatures who are able to relate to the pain and happiness of others. Watching another person feel the agony of loss, as well as, experience the kindness of another individual, brings about memories and connections to those emotions. Displaying feelings of both joy and sadness was a magnification of the way human's emotional appeal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Examples Of Geraniums In To Kill A Mockingbird "What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness". As John Steinbeck states in his novel, Travels With Charley: In Search of America, warmth in summer would not be as enjoyable as it is if there is no cold in the winter. Similarly, in Harper Lee's novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Lee uses the motif of flowers to signify hope in the midst of life's hardships. Two examples of this are Mayella Ewell's geraniums, and Mrs. Dubose's camellias. Mayella Ewell's geraniums symbolize her hopes for a better future, one which is much more ordinary and beautiful. Despite Mayella Ewell's situation, she wishes to be more than her surroundings. "Against the fence, in a line, were six chipped–enamel slop jars holding brilliant red ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People said they were Mayella Ewell's" (17.195). Mayella Ewell plants the geraniums in the Ewell household in order to see something of quality happening in her life. Furthermore, the geraniums represent a need for beauty in Mayella Ewell's life, and a need to brighten the lives of those around her. "A young girl walked to the witness stand. As she raised her hand and swore that the evidence she gave would be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help her God, she seemed somehow fragile–looking, but when she sat facing us in the witness chair she became what she was, a thick–bodied girl accustomed to strenuous labor"(18.204). Geraniums symbolize esteem and gentility in the world of flowers. Similarly, Mayella Ewell symbolizes esteem and gentility by being strong despite being poor. "I got somethin' to say an' then I ain't gonna say no more. That nigger yonder took advantage of me an' if you fine fancy gentlemen don't wanta do nothin' about it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Verbal Analysis : Verbal Tracking Verbal tracking is another skill I would like to say is one of my strengths. I understand the importance of listening. This is the one skill that I have tried to hone. At first I noticed myself interjecting my own ideas and stories, taking over conversations and making them about me. When I became aware of this, I began listening more to others. Verbal tracking has made me a better listener and I feel that I am better at following my client's train of thought. Limitations Though I have strengths, I am aware of my various limitations. To being with, I willingly admit that I am not great at challenging others during a counseling session. At times I do not know how to challenge the individual. In the past I have come off judgmental and pushy. This has caused me to become more passive when counseling others. At times I can come off as being "too zealous." I am in the process of learning how to curb these tendencies. I have come to understand that people have differing levels of spiritual growth and I cannot make them change. Only God, by grace through the Holy Spirit is able to do such a work. I need to grow in the skill of interpreting and summarizing. I find that I am too busy focusing on other skill. I have started to take notes as I implement the skill of active listening. The notes have helped me keep track of verbals and non–verbals during the conversation, allowing me to be more effective in summarizing and interpreting at the end of the sessions. Biblical ... • 7. The Road By Cormac Mccarthy Beauty Is Everywhere Can light shine in complete darkness? In other words, can something beautiful exist in the midst of malevolent influences? Most people would say no, that beauty can't be found in the midst of these influences. However, wherever there is hope and faith, there will be beauty. Beauty is everywhere, beauty can be found in people based off their looks. Beauty can be found in people based on their morals, ethics and the decisions they make. Beauty has no bounds, beauty can be found in everything, even the darkest places. One must have to be willing to look hard enough to find it. In Cormac McCarthy's "The Road", the setting is America in a post–apocalyptic state. The world as the characters knew it was gone. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In today 's world there are situations in which something dark and terrible occurs. This is where we can see beautiful happen in the midst of malevolent influences in the present day. Take the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, France for example. The Jihadist terrorist group sent a well trained team to carry out coordinated attacks on different populated areas in Paris they succeeded. At least 130 people were killed and the city was in shock. However, beauty still made its way through the darkness people came together, people wanted to help one another, people showed faith and hope, countries came together. These are examples of beauty. No, it 's not a physical beauty, but it 's more of an emotional/mental or social beauty. Knowing that people are willing to be there for others no matter how dark of a situation they are in is a very beautiful thing. Now, this modern example hits home for many other Americans. Next example is 9/11. Sure everyone is aware of what happened on September 11, 2001, It was a dark time for our country. Once again beauty shined through the people who risked their lives to save others in the towers and through the new Trade center and Ground Zero memorial. No matter how dark the situation is, as long as people are willing to stand up and help others and faith is maintained beauty will always shine through. • 8. Suitors In The Odyssey Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey" tells of the Greek hero Odysseus's journeys in order to get back home. It also tells of the struggles of his son, Telemachus, at the hands of the men who want to court his mother, Penelope. Much of the book is comprised of hearing about Penelope's struggle with these "suitors" who persistently push her to choose one of them to marry. Though Odysseus had been gone for more than 20 years and everyone assumed he was dead, Penelope remained faithful to her husband and dutifully resisted the suitors. Therefore, I am convinced that Penelope was a superb example of faithfulness that every woman (and man) can look at to see how one should act while married. • 9. Hamlet as a Living Death in the Midst of Life in Hamlet by... Hamlet as a Living Death in the Midst of Life in Hamlet by Wlliam Shakespeare In claiming that Hamlet is 'a living death in the midst of life', Knight depicts Hamlet as a character who is entirely a corrupting force in the lives of others, rather than a morally superior character attempting to orchestrate justice. In that Hamlet is secluded and absolutely isolated from those who experience 'life', Knight condemns Hamlet to the title of being an emotionless element of malevolence. It is important however to consider Hamlet's circumstance before labelling him as an 'element of evil'. This title portrays a being that has no conscience and feels little, if any, emotion; it could be argued however, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knight focuses on the contrast between Hamlet and the court and its guests in the opening scene, as it is clear to see that Hamlet in comparison can be seen as a morbid figure, and the crowd a mass figure of 'life'. The court is a joyful place, it is full of exhilaration, however Hamlet is brooding, contemplative and in such grief and despair that he does not want to celebrate. In this seclusion, Shakespeare makes Hamlet a different element altogether, and in comparison with the court, could be perceived as a living death by those perhaps less sympathetic to Hamlet's dilemma. Claudius is clearly a well–organized man, and he has sensible ideas about not letting recollections of the past obstruct the promise of the future; 'So much for him. – / Now for ourself, and for this time of meeting.' The requirement for a leader to be strong, is a preoccupation present not only in an Elizabethan society, but of any society; Claudius, as a politician, can not afford to be scrupulous, and it is through this obligation of emotional detachment and public reputation in Claudius that the audience is able to associate more with Hamlet and his dilemma than with Claudius and his. Another such example of this would be Machiavelli; it was a focus on practical success and public image, even at the expense of traditional moral values, that earned Machiavelli's schemes ... • 10. Frederick Douglass Syntax Analysis Slavery is a topic very capable of putting an emotional weight on a person. This is even more so for those that have actually experienced it first–hand. Frederick Douglass, one of the more influential African–Americans in history, himself, was once a slave. He experienced everything that comes with being a slave in first–person. All the wickedness, hardships, and mental and physical damage, that came with being a slave, were experienced by him. Frederick is able to experience freedom after taking the step himself and escaping slavery. After what is almost an entire life of slavery, one would expect him to have many thoughts floating in his mind about his new found freedom. In the passage from the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass use figures of speech and syntax, and repetition of key phrases to convey his feelings of excitement, insecurity, and loneliness from escaping slavery and arriving in New York in 1838. In the Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Frederick Douglass tells his story of growing up as a slave and then becoming a freeman. Douglass speaks of the horrors of slavery and the beauty of freedom. Douglass uses figures of speech, diction, and repetition to convey his feelings of excitement, insecurity and loneliness on escaping from slavery and arriving in New York in 1838. Frederick Douglass uses Metaphors and similes to express his feelings of excitement, insecurity and loneliness. Douglass thinks about how he felt when he found himself in a free state. Douglass says he felt like a "unarmed mariner" that was "rescued by a friendly man–of–war from the pursuit of a pirate." He feels that he has a very small chance of escape. • 15. Rhetorical Analysis Of Frederick Douglass In this selection from the "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave", Frederick Douglass vividly describes his feelings about being a newly liberated fugitive slave. In doing this, he describes the different emotions he felt. Saying that out of the joy also came distrust. He was happy that he was not a slave anymore but could not trust a soul, for the white man would immediately take him back to the horrible life of a slave and the black man might stab him in the back and rat him out for money, and therefore was in absolute confusion about what to do, where to go, or where to stay. On arriving to this new environment he had mixed feelings of happiness and loneliness; he is able to convey these feelings through syntax such as repetition, figurative language such as similes and metaphors, and with diction and tone that both give the reader negative feelings about the state of Douglass's situation. In the beginning of the excerpt Douglass speaks of how he has never been able to tell his story of being newly liberated with great satisfaction, foreshadowing the fact that he will go on to do so in the succeeding lines. He claims that he was ebullient, feeling excitement he had never experienced before, comparing himself to a mariner who had been saved by a friendly man of war from the pursuit of pirates, as well as alluding to the biblical story of Daniel. This was the year the girls varsity soccer team was expected to go all the way to the finals, and make a hard run at the state championship title. We had made it to the third round, and after this game we were heading north to Huntsville, Alabama for the quarter finals. Except, in an instant, this all changed after one practice, two days before our game, when our principal showed up with some heartbreaking news. We no longer had a shot at the championship title because someone on our team had broken the rules; therefore, we had been kicked out of the playoffs. This filled me with anger, hatred, and resentment towards that one person. I became a very bitter version of myself until God showed me a new path to walk down in the following week. My story beings on the Friday night before our first playoff game. My dad asked me to go to our city soccer fields to get a corner flag for the game tomorrow at the school. When I got to the fields one of my best friends texts me and says, "Hey! Are high school players allowed to play on teams other than the high school team?" I was confused. No they are definitely not, but was she talking about one of my teammates or someone we were supposed to play against? I storm out onto the field to see if I know who is breaking such a big rule and my mind is blown when I see one of my own teammates out on the field playing. So much is running through my mind, "Do I say something to her? Do I tell my coach? What will this do to our chances of playing in the championship?" All these thoughts, yet I stand on the field frozen from anger at the fact that this person thinks it's okay to break a rule in order to benefit herself. So I did what anyone like me would do and I confronted her, "Do you really think it is okay that you are out here playing when our high school season is still going on?" She stares at me with no emotion on her face, says absolutely nothing, and just walks away acting as if she had done no wrong. However, some are able to hold onto the civilization that exists within themselves. Although Copus and Goulding stories revolve around different scenarios, they shared the key distinction of keeping their underlying themes similar to one another. It shows that when faced with the possibility of chaos, the few purely good characters were able to remain loyal to civilization, while those who were not loyal to civilization, turn to anarchy and chaos. Survival is a highly prominent theme within the two texts. It is a primal human drive, and both texts drive home the question 'how far would you go to survive?' However, the way that they do so is in complete difference to one another. In 'Day of the Triffids', one of the first scenes that the audience is greeted with after the meteor shower, is the suicide of the doctor. This man has lost his survival instinct. • 33. Analysis Of The Book ' The Midst Of The Wearables ' Essay Microsoft Band In the Midst of the Wearables Joshua Pauly December 11, 2014 San Diego Christian College Executive Summary This research proposal explores scholarly journals, internet articles, and my personal thoughts and ideas on the smartwatch, fitness band, and wearable market segment. I am proposing to obtain research on whether or not the Microsoft Band among other smart wrist wearables are currently and, if so, will continue to be desirable technological advancements in the market. Wrist Wearables are a fairly new market segment and they are mostly only marketed to a niche audience. With less than half the U.S. population with any knowledge of the existence of smart wearables and half of that population even considering buying one, the marketability for this technology appears slim. Although, the potential for brand awareness, along with customer loyalty, is huge and a beneficial opportunity for any company to get their hands on. All this said, I believe the Microsoft Band has a step up on the other wrist wearables in that it combines the smart watch functionality with the fitness tracker capabilities into one smart wrist wearable. Also, it is compatible with all the major phone systems which makes its market segment expand even greater. With this amount of flexibility, I believe the Microsoft band will be a potential competitor to be reckoned with, even with the soon to be released iWatch. Some critics even ponder on how she obtained access to various art techniques without a strong academic background. She did not acquire a formal education after all and she often gallivanted throughout the taverns of Montmartre. It was quite rare and peculiar for a woman with such social stigma to become a well–rounded artist. It is commonly believed that Valadon started her modeling career in Montmartre at the tender age of 15. She modeled for ten years for many prominent artists such as Pierre–Cécile Puvis de Chavannes, Pierre– Auguste Renoir, and Henri de Toulouse–Lautrec (Rose, 1999). She was also known ... • 35. Who Is Edna Pontellier's Awakening? The Awakening by Kate Chopin proves to be a novel capable of hosting many ideas as to its origin and why Edna Pontellier had the characteristics that made up the storyline of the novel. Her awakening could be perceived as the equivalent of her liberation. She so desperately felt the need for this awakening but in the midst of it, got lost in herself, which resulted in the loss of her life as a whole. Her actions are a product of consistent unrequited love from her childhood and the reluctance to conform to society's standards for women in that time period. Jules Chametzky discusses "The Woman's Question" of where the line is between freeing oneself and having a total disconnect from one's surroundings. The only thing that Edna seems to be ... In The Midst Of Worrying About The Consequences Our Economy, In the midst of worrying about the consequences our economy, women, and humanity may face if Donald Trump were to become President, a critical topic that this country has used for decades to hinder particular demographic groups received less attention. That topic is education, the reason it is now a major issue and has entered the conversation of various social groups is because President Donald Trump and the Senate has entrusted the crucial role of secretary of Education to Betsy DuVos, a millionaire from Michigan. At first, many were joyous to see Donald Trump electing a woman for a position considering his consistent patriarchal attitude toward women and his decision to have primarily white men in his cabinet. Furthermore, standardized testing hold all kinds of students to the same standard, which is good, but not when these students each learn differently. For the students that are hindered by poverty or the inability to perform well on tests, their schools receive less funding so they are punished for being put into a bad situation. 2. The two main policy issues in urban education related to the two themes I mentioned are the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 and the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). The Disability act prohibits discrimination based on disabilities in areas that receive Federal funding. The reason this act is important is because through privatization a loop hold has been found. Charter schools are public schools that are controlled independently making them like private schools. For instance, in Michigan where DeVos played a major role in the charter schools program, for–profit companies run the charters schools and she donated $1 million to lawmakers that helped oppose new oversight of charters (Carey, 2016). Charter schools receive their funding based on their test scores so they do not seek out students that may hinder their scores, like students with disabilities, so these kids may be ignored or taken out of charter schools (Ravitch, 2014, p.160). Consequently, this acts as a loophole to disability discrimination that must be fixed. 3. Popular media, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Allusions Of Allusions In Blake's The Garden Of Love Short exercise paper #1 Blake's lyrical poem "The Garden of Love" contains several allusions that reference the first book in the Bible "Genesis". During this paper, I will be discussing one instance where Blake's poem alludes to Genesis 3. To summarize, there are several instances in which Blake's poem "The Garden of Love" alludes to Genesis, of these I chose to focus on the 'chapel' built in the midst and its connection to Eve's interaction with the Serpent. Blake's poem begins with the speaker visiting the "Garden of Love" during which they discover, "A chapel was built in the midst." The speaker points out that this 'chapel' is "built/where I used to play" all of this happens during the first stanza. The speaker does not indicate they watched the 'chapel' built in fact; the speaker almost seems shocked by its presence, "saw what I had never seen" and it becomes clear whatever this 'chapel' is it has altered how the speaker will continue to interact with the garden, "built in the midst/where I used to play on the green". It is important to realize this 'chapel' not only altered the garden itself, but also, has essentially replaced the green so; instead of play, there is this 'chapel'. During the third book of Genesis, a dialogue happens concerning Eve and the Serpent. The Serpent questions Eve about the garden to which she replies, "We may eat of the fruit of the trees...But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst...Ye shall not eat...lest ye die" (Genesis 3:3).
