3. The target audience for this particular magazine is aimed at female, middle-class teenagers;
around the ages of 11-14 (who are interested in pop music/celebrities) .This is symbolically
represented with the features such as the house/main colour being a light purple colour which is
stereotypically associated with the female gender.
Also the main image is of “One Direction” which are a young, current and famous boy band that
produce pop music. They are mainly aimed at this particular target audience this could denote
that it will attract people because they are well-known, but connotes that young teenage girls are
most likely to buy it as I have also carried out research, which shows that the majority of One
Directions fan base is predominantly young, white teenage girls.
Also, by looking at the other coverlines on the page, young pop artists with the majority of their
fan bases being young, female, white teenagers are included. Such as Ariana Grande, Little Mix
and Ella Henderson.
Another feature that shows that the target audience is young people, is the strapline of “True-life
trauma, homeless at 13.”This article denotes that as it is a shocking story, people would be
encouraged to find out more and buy it.But connotes that, as the age of the person becoming
homeless is 13 which is the average age that this magazine targets ,the target audience would be
able to relate and put oneself in another's shoes, therefore enticing them to buy it.
