The document discusses the various technologies used by the author to create their cover and contents page project. These included handheld devices like cameras, phones, and scanners as well as online programs like Photoshop, Prezi, Slideshare, Blogger, and Emaze. The author found Photoshop and Blogger particularly useful for editing images and organizing work, while Prezi and Emaze provided clear instructions. Going forward, the author wants to experiment more with Photoshop's features and revisit technologies to improve their skills.
1. What have you learned about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Question 2
Baldeep Gahir.
2. During the process of constructing my cover and contents page, I used different forms of
technology. Some of which were online, such as Prezi, and other forms such as cameras and
phones. I used:
Hand held:
- Camera
- Computer
- Mobile phones
- Scanner
Online sites and programmes:
- Photoshop
- Prezi
- Slide share
- Blogger
- Emaze
3. Hand held and online forms of
technology
Computer- I feel as if this was the main piece of technology we used. It was needed to put
together our blog and creating the things that were included in it such as the production
schedule and risk assessments.
Mobile phones- This was a piece of technology that I used the least, as I only used it to
upload a picture of myself on to blogger, (the about me post.) This was necessary for me, as
I don’t have a face book profile etc, to use a picture off of , so I transferred the image to
the computer using a USB port.
Scanner- This was also a piece of technology that was very useful, in terms of getting a clear
sketch of what my original drawn drafts for my contents and cover page. This made it
useful as it makes comparing my final contents and cover page and my original drawn drafts
easier, as the scanned versions are clearly visible.
4. Camera- This was used to take pictures for both the contents and cover page. We got to
learn how to function different cameras and experiment with different camera angles and
shot types such as medium close up and long shot etc. Also, as well as using the camera for
the cover and contents page, I also used it to capture images for my location recce. One
example of a camera we used was the Panasonic.
5. Online and programmes
Photoshop:
Photoshop was the main piece of online technology that allowed me to create and edit my
cover and contents page. I have learned a lot about how to use different features such as
using a gradient, strokes and shadows to the masthead and pull quotes to make them stand
out more, adding different layers, adding text, shapes, images, changing the colour of fonts,
using the align ruler to ensure my pictures and text were spaced out the equal amount and
a lot more. At first I struggled with small things such as inserting pictures (as it wasn’t easy
because this was my first time using Photoshop and have only been used to doing things
such as inserting pictures on more simpler pieces of technology such as word and
publisher.)At the start I was also struggling with remembering the steps on how to apply a
certain feature e.g. a stroke. But eventually, the more I kept using the features, the more I
got used to how to use and apply them. If I could repeat and improve the way I used this
piece of technology, I would've written down the steps on how to use each key feature as
they will be vital in the future for producing my music magazine.
6. Prezi:
This online site was used for the location recce. This technology was easy to use as the steps
on how to create your own Prezi had clear instructions. I liked using it, as it meant that I got
to insert my pictures in a background that I preferred and explain why I chose each image.
Also, finding the embed code was easy, so I learned how to paste the code on to my blog
quickly and conveniently.
Slideshare:
Slideshare was useful as it helped me to upload my posts and then embed it on to my blog
using the HTML code which is a new feature I have learned. The only issue with this, was
that the embed button was not clearly visible on the screen, which meant that I struggled
to find it.
Emaze:
Out of all the sites, my favourite to use was definitely Emaze. This was to create my
evaluation, I enjoyed using it as the steps to use a feature were very specific and gave clear
instructions on how to create and edit.
Blogger:
This was used to organise and put all of my work on. Blogger was easy to use and it
organised each of my posts effectively.
7. What went well:
For all the pieces of technology I`ve used, I have felt like I`ve eventually managed
to become comfortable with using them and am now able to use them effectively.
For example, Blogger was a piece of technology that I was unsure about at the
beginning, but now I can use it and its many features without guidance.
What could have been done better:
Apart from the progress I have made with the various types of new technology, if I
could improve my technique on how to use them I would keep revisiting
programmes such as Photoshop and play around with the other features it has to
offer. This would enable me to experiment with other features that may have
been of use for my cover and contents page.
Overall, I have learned that all of these online sites have a lot in common. Such as
all the sites allow you to add images on, they all have a slide share type scenario,
and they all do certain things such as embedding using the HTML code.
