Task 13 -
Pitch
To Bauer
Media
introduction
My magazine is called Rewind and focuses more on
the older music coming back into mainstream music.
The artists would be a series of big famous artists
who are perceived as classic, big and music royalty.
In the month in which my first issue would be made,
such bands as U2, Kate Bush, Neil Diamond, Lady
Gaga has gone back on tour and George Michael
introduction
The genre is of course what I have already
mentioned. Mainstream pop/rock.
Your other magazines which you have published,
include TV Quick, Bella, Kerrang and Q. These
have lead you to become the third biggest
publisher in the UK. Your target audiences have
ranged from older women in the gossip
magazines to the middle aged men in your
music magazines. Although this magazine appeals
to a much wider audience of both men and
women of the ages 16-32.
Target Audience
The magazine I am creating will be aimed
towards 16-30 year olds. In oppose to the
magazines you already cover with an elder target
audience. The concept of having another
magazine with a younger audience means that
you would sell more and overall your magazine
company will overall then appeal to a more wide
audience.
House Style
The House style of my magazine will follow a
colour scheme of the similar colours shown in
this presentation. With a red mast head similar
also.
The font I will be using is also similar to the
one being used here. As well as other fonts
Content
My content for my first issue will include:
A top ten list – Everyone likes ratings and lists,
and lists are quite popular in your magazine Q.
Tour information – New reviews on tours, and
tour dates.
New Albums – Reviews of albums and what's
coming up album wise.
Interview – interviews with big artists and newer
artists who will appear to be hits.
Main Story
The main story in my magazine
for the first issue, will be a male
singer named Jamie who's band
‘Mirage’ The band was a late 90s
band which split up in 2004.
Jamie then done a short but big
solo career In America and the
UK, for around 6 years. Now he
is returning with his band Mirage
with a new image, new music,
and new influence. They are
releasing a new greatest hits
album called – Mirage together
and apart. The main interview, is
featuring Jamie, who talks about
his career and the new album.
Focus Group
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WKJBJFK
For my focus group of 5 people, who all enjoy the genre
of music and magazine in which I am covering,
commented on the way I have presented my Pitch.
They firstly said that when developing my pitch I should
include more about advertisements and more about the
content in my media pack.
They also said that that my house style is quite visual
but, more images through out my pitch would be better.
Why Choose
Rewind
Rewind, if taken by your company, could also be one of
the biggest selling music magazines, similar to Q. This
one appeals to a bigger target audience, however also
appeals to a different type of music. Though both
mainstream pop and rock. Rewind focuses more on the
biggest selling artists, returning artists and the music
‘royals’.
Why choose
Rewind
When asking Jamie a member of my focus group about his
choice on music, he explained that as a 24 year old, who's
profession is a brick layer, he struggles to listen to a lot of
new music, due to not being able to listen to the radio a lot,
he carried on to say that by purchasing a magazine with a
lot of mainstream and popular artists he could then find out
about the new music and go back to buying albums that he
likes and would enjoy to play when he has free time.
Why Advertise
With Rewind
Rewind, if published has the potential to become as big as
Q or bigger, so to advertise in it would be a great move and
gesture both towards Rewind, Bauer Media and those
choosing to advertise.
A selection of choices, who could appear to advertise in the
magazine:
Why Rewind
and Not Q
o Q is the UK’s No.1 actively-purchased music
magazine:
The magazine however has a further niche audience,
whilst Kerrang also has a niche audience. Althougn with
a magazine like Rewind, it could gate a further audience,
though maybe not a mass audience, it will develop a
further mass audience for Bauer Media.
o Q has the youngest target audience than any other
monthly music magazine. This means that for those
aged around the 30 mark do not have a personal
magazine to buy. Though Rewind is aimed for also 16
year olds, classic artists who would appear in the
magazine, would appeal more to a mature older
audience.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/
s/BPRZ5MX
Here are a series of stats that could develop,
why you would choose Rewind
80% of Rewind readers visit a gig/festival every
year. In comparison to Q which is around 67%
along with NME at 63% due to the more wider
audience.
78% of readers are more likely to go and buy
an album after reading about it in Rewind,
compared to the 75% in Q,
Over two thirds of adults agree that you cant
beat the atmosphere, feeling or experience of a
live performance. 60% of people would much
rather watch a live performance provided by
Rewind, as they find it more exciting and
entertaining than watching it on TV, compared to
the figure by NME
Why we should take Rewind to
digital media
To compete with the big magazines, like your
own Q and others like NME, we must move
Rewind to the digital world.
In 2011, Q readers we very upbeat with
technology:
93% Owned a computer
96% Had access to the internet
72% Had broadband at home
56% Visited the Q website everyday
Now, in 2014, for a new magazine, the stats
would raise to new heights, in a post modern
society, entirely based on technology and the
internet, the figures would have raised.
Predictably
97+% Would own a computer
98+% Would have access to the internet.
