3. In 1968 cooper was the first man to introduce a
field test to assess aerobic capacity of an
individual and this test was 12 min, run /walk
test. In this any compulsion was not on the
performance to run for 12 mins, he can also
walked when he felt that he cant run more. In
short individual run/walk according to his
capacity. When individual get relax then he can
again start running this test is also known as
CRW-(continuous run walk).
4. PROCEDURE
The partner is instructed to count the no. of laps
that are to be run within the allotted time, when
11 min, have completed then instructor calls out
the time left run. At the end of the 12 min, the
instructor blows a blast on his whistle the runner
notes the flag he/she has just passed.
On a 400 mt track, the area should
be marked & the distance b/w the each mark
should be 25 mts. So these will be 16 marks on a
track.
5. SCORING
The observing partner gives the runner the
no. of completed laps he/she has run. The
runner then report the score in terms of
number of laps the no. of flags passed on
the last lap.
6. Scoring table for 12 min,. Running test for college
men/women.
CATEGORY MEN WOMEN
Superior Marathon 2.25 miles More then 1.90 miles
excellent 2.00 – 2.24 miles 1.65 to 1.89 miles
good 1.75 – 1. 99 miles 1.40 – 1.64 miles
fair 1.50 – 1.74 miles 1.15 – 1.39 miles
poor 1.25 – 1.49 miles 0.90 – 1.14 miles
Very poor Less than 1.25 miles Less than .90 miles
7. SoFrIT & Colleagues IN 1988
Sofrit and colleagues in 1988 indicated that
distance run tends to be reliable (r = 0.78) and
have a general concurrent validity ( 0.74 + o.14 )
range = .60 to .88 same aerobic test involve time
taken to cover fixed distance.
8. MODIFICATIONS
There are so many fixed distance are
available in the literature according to age,
performance, fitness and achievement the
distance can be modified. The most used
distance can be modified. The most used
distance is 12 min. 1 ½ miles – 13- 18 yrs 9
min. 1 miles – 5-12 years. According to
literature.
9. if the individual is involved in hard physical Activities then only we must gives them 12
min, run/walk test. For increasing performance capacity, motivation following instruction
must be given :-
1. how to adjust the pace this must be told to them previously.
2. training must also be given before 15-20 directly individual should not be taken to the
ground.
It must be kept in mind that our purpose is to test under normal condition
but if individual is not able then we should modify the test.
10. Jackson & colleman
In 1976 suggested a min, run/walk test for boys &
girls studying in standard 1-6 & found a
satisfactory concurrent validity of test for boys
0.82 & for girls 0.71.
so these are the two test in which
time is fixed & distance is to be measured.
nature of movement + purpose of movement =
concurrent validity.
11. 1. Miles run
Cureton et.al. conducted a cardio respiratory test in
1977 while using one mute run test on boys & girls
aged 10yrs & found satisfactory to assess aerobic
fitness with 0.66 as concurrent validity.
This test is appropriate for 5-12 yr, age group
then validity become 0.89 & it is used for 12yr, age
group then validity become decreased i.e. 0.60. is for
the age group above 12yr. This test isn’t appropriate.
In this taking more time poor performance
and taking less time means better performance.
12. 3. 1 ½ miles run
Andrew & Mathew conducted a study in
1975 while using 1 ½ mile run to assess
aerobic capacity for college women &
found good concurrent validity as 0.74.
13. 4. 1800 YARDS RUN
Gatin and et.al. conducted a study in
1976 to assess cardio-respiratory
endurance while using 1800 yard run
test on 11 yrs. Old boys / girls and found
good concurrent validity with a value of
0.76.
14. 5. 2400 METERSS RUN
Kitagawa and et , al . conducted a cardio-
vascular and respiratory test I 1977 while
using 2400 meters . Run an college men and
women and found satisfactory only for
college men with concurrent validity , value
was 0.63.
15. 2 MILES & 3 MILES RUN
Shaver conducted an endurance test in 1975 while
using 2 miles & 3 miles run on college men and
found good concurrent validity . The co-officient
of validity were – 0.76 and 0.82 for 2 miles and 3
miles respectively.
sub maximal load must be given to
assess cardio – vascular endurance i.e. 75 – 90%
16. 600 YARDS RUN
Will goose and Askew conducted a study in 1961
while using 600 yards run test for boys and girls
aged between 6-12 yrs. And later on Bilasiatto
and cotton stabilized concurrent validity in 1972
as follows :-
3 rd grade boys and girls – 0.96.
5 th grade boys and girls – o.88.
7 th grade boys and girls – o.76.
