1. FACTOR IMPACTING SPORT PERFORMANCE
Sports Performance is the manner in which sport participation is
measured. Sports performance is a complex mixture of
biomechanical function, emotional factors and training
techniques. When an athlete and the coach can isolate areas on
which to focus in training, the ultimate result is likely to be
improved.
2. FACTORS IMPACTING SPORTS PERFORMANCE
There are two types of factors impacting sports
performance:
1. Psychological factor
2. Physical factor.
3. PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS IMPACTING SPORTS
PERFORMANCE (BEFORE, DURING & AFTER AN
EVENT)

°Arousal, anxiety & stress
°Motivation
°Confidence

4. PERSONALITY
• There are 4 basic personality traits
• 1.Extrovert- outgoing, loud, confident
• 2.Introvert- shy, quiet
• 3.Stable - uniform in action, predictable, habitual
• 4. unstable - unpredicatable, plan ahead poorly
5. MOST ATHLETES SHOW THE FOLLOWING
CHARACTERISTICS AND THESE DEPENDS ON THEIR
PERSONALITY TYPE :
• Dominance
• Enthusiasm
• Confidence
• Aggression
• High activity levels
6. AGGRESSION
• This is deliberate intension to hurt someone.
• It is argued that it is either a personality trait or a learned
behavior.
• Some aggression is needed to be successful.
7. FACTORS THAT INCREASE LEVEL OF AGGRESSION
• Losing.
• Competing away from home.
• Types of sports.
• Current values & norms within sport and society.
• The importance of game to the individual and levels of tournament.
8. AROUSAL, ANXIETY & STRESS
• Performance is affected by state of mind.
• Arousal is response by stress and it can be understood under the
inverted U- hypothesis.
• Anxiety is the degree of confidence in your
• own stability.
• Stress is the demands of the situation you are in.
9. MOTIVATION
• It is intrinsic or extrinsic.
• The will to win.
• Based on rewards and punishment.
• Rewards includes - recognition, success and self-esteem.
• Punishment includes - criticism, loss of team place, failure and loss
of self-esteem.
10. CONFIDENCE
• "to become a champion you must look and act like a
champion." (muhammad Ali)
• Confidence in your own ability Appearing confident.
• Positive self talk e.g I am good at this.
11. CONCENTRATION
• Successful athletes have increased levels of
• Concentration.
• Successful athletes can shut down distractions. eg.-
crowd.
• They have a positive focus.
