•Start with your basic engineering text books
•Understand the formulas, don’t mug them
•Try to understand the derivations involved, this will help in solving
conceptual GATE problems later.
•Try to solve basic text books questions, this will help you answer more
than 50% of GATE questions
•Always try to draw diagrams and visualize problems.
7. Find your strong and week Points
•Start with basic problems
•Move to conceptual and theoretical problems step by step
•Try out previous year GATE problems
•Try to solve the problems yourself without looking at the solution
•Look for more number of problems.

studying
•Be focus on your long term goal – GATE
•Sometimes you are energetic and sometimes lazy, but never miss
your day study hours.
•Consistency is always more important than studying for more
number of hours for few days. This usually won’t help in
competitive exams

11. Develop a feedback loop for your studies
•Finish the topic and try previous year GATE questions
•Identify your strength and weaknesses.
•Try to read more theory for the topics you are weak in.
•Distribute your time accordingly.

•Do not loose hope, there will be ups and downs- Keep your calm
and keep moving.
•Topics in which you are very strong, revise them time to time, in the
end you don’t want to loose marks in those topics.

hour in day for study.
•Have a proper plan for
everything – study material,
books, video lectures.
•Read books and material when
you are fresh and practise
numerical when you are feeling
sleepy.
•Keep in mind, every minute
good study is taking you
towards your goal.
17. Plan your studies
•Studying for 10 hours a day is not mandatory.
• Analyze previous year question papers and list down the important
topics like Rocket Propulsion, Basic elasticity etc.
•Focus on these topic first, make a command, then move to the
comparatively less important topic.
•Reading a complete book which is not even required will not help
you in GATE.

Do not ignore your college studies
•Your college studies is equally more important – You need minimum
60% to get admission into IITs and even higher values for getting
selected in few of the major companies for placements.
•GATE problems are being formed from the derivations, lengthy
problems we are doing in colleges, so don’t skip them.
