Pushed by the ever-increasing demand of high-speed connectivity, next generation 400Gb/s electrical links are targeting PAM-4 modulation to limit channel loss and preserve link budget. Compared to NRZ, a higher amplitude is desirable to counteract the 1/3 reduction of PAM-4 vertical eye opening. However, linearity is also key, and PAM-4 levels must be precisely spaced to preserve the horizontal eye opening advantage it has over NRZ. This paper presents a 45Gb/s PAM-4 transmitter able to deliver a very large output swing with enhanced linearity and state-of-the-art efficiency. Built around a hybrid combination of current-mode and voltage-mode topologies, the driver is embedded into a 4-taps 5-bits FFE, and allows tuning the output impedance to ensure good source termination. Implemented in 28nm CMOS FDSOI process, the full transmitter includes a half-rate serializer, duty-cycle correction circuit, >>2kV HBM ESD diodes, and delivers a full swing of 1.3Vppd at 45Gb/s, while drawing 120mA only from 1V supply. The power efficiency is ~2 times better than previously reported PAM-4 transmitters.

The electro optic switch has wide application in optical network due to capability of route the light path from one port to the desired port. In this paper, we propose a 1x2 digital optoelectronics switch based on mach-zehnder interferometer structure on a single titanium diffuse lithium niobate substrate. The design is simulate on BPM-cad simulator for switch analysis and study the effect of bipolar voltage 0v to ± 5.75v applied at 1st and center electrode region for switching. A short study of wavelength dependent switch for first optical window 8.5 µm and third optical window 1.55 µm has been simulated without use of voltage with changing titanium stripe thickness to 0.07µm.

An alternative to the core/aggregation/access layer network topology has emerged known as leaf-spine. In a leaf-spine architecture, a series of leaf switches form the access layer. These switches are fully meshed to a series of spine switches. One way is to create a Spine and Leaf architecture, also known as a Distributed Core. This architecture has two main components: Spine switches and Leaf switches. Intuition Systems can think of spine switches as the core, but instead of being a large, chassis-based switching platform, the spine is composed of many high-throughput Layer 3 switches with high port density. The mesh ensures that access-layer switches are no more than one hop away from one another, minimizing latency and the likelihood of bottlenecks between access-layer switches. When networking vendors speak of an Ethernet fabric, this is generally the sort of topology they have in mind. Haven’t we spent the last few decades disaggregating datacenter architecture?
