1. DOCUMENTING THE MISE EN SCENE AND REPRESENTATION THAT
WILL FEATURE IN MY MAGAZINE
MISE EN SCENE
2. LOCATION RECCE
STORAGE BOXES
I explored a number of different locations that could be
used as locations and background to shoot my main
cover image and featured article mages, as well as
those that will be used on my contents page. I was
looking for locations that would fit the representation of
the genre being “grungy” and also the stereotype of the
imperfection of this style of music and it’s rugged fans.
A found a number of locations that would work and
they all seem derelict and also industrialised features.
The first location I visited were these large industrial
storage crates. They are situated in an isolated field which
is covered in gravel and industrial waste, such as wiring.
The isolation fits the stereotype of indie music fans finding
things that other people are not aware of and being away
from the crowd/expectations. Between these containers
there is a tunnel effect created. By positioning my artist
within this tunnel I could reflect the hidden element of this
genre and the fact that it is a small niche market .
3. LOCATION RECCE
DERELICT FIELD / FENCING
The second location I found is a similar
landscape to location one but the storage
boxes would not feature, thus, more attention
would be drawn to the metal fencing and
abandoned shrubs. This would be a good
location to use as images shot here would
attract my target audience who like the concept
that they are discovering and exploring places
that aren't mainstream. The ruined grass could
also be reflective of a festival field setting.
4. LOCATION RECCE
CAMPUS BORDER
This is similar to location two however there is more
emphasis on the fence as appose to surrounding
field. The chipped paint work and imperfections
make the area seem much more weathered and
individual as well as not looked after, thus, appealing
to my target audience. There are also warning and
danger signs situated prominently on the fence,
appealing to my target audience as it presents the
idea that this is not somewhere they should be or be
aware of.
5. LOCATION RECCE
DISCARDED OBJECTS / SHED
This area contains many
discarded objects and an
overgrown shed. This
jumble of objects fits my
genre as fans of this
music are often
represented to shop in
charity shops or jumble
sales, looking for
individual objects. I feel
as though this location is
less fitting than the rest
as the tarmac and bricked
wall make it seem too
looked after and well
maintained.
6. LOCATION RECCE
STEEL BARS / BACK AREAS OF
BUILDINGS
The steel bars in these image create an industrial
ambience and the look I wanted to achieve, they
create interesting composition and provide lot of
opportunity to position my subjects around the
bars. I would say the location depicted in the image
to the right is best as it also features moss and
seems more abandoned as appose to having
modern brickwork.
8. MAKE-UP
MAKE UP MY ARTIST MIGHT WEAR
My artist would be a female group, for this reason they are more likely to
wear makeup. I would have a variation of different amounts of makeup but
all would feature an exaggerated pinky nude eye or no makeup. This eye
colour is very distinctive of the genre and fans of often stereotyped to use it.
Using this look or no make up reflects the non-conformity of the genre as
girls, especially if on magazine covers, would be expected to wear makeup.
For a more prominent look I would incorporate deep red lipstick.
