Inauguration Speech
When a new president is elected it is expected of she or he to address their plan for the next four
years; and how they are going to execute said plan. This formality is the Inauguration speech. What
is said during this ceremony gives you an idea of who's taking office if you have been paying
attention during the months leading up to the election you have a very good idea of what the
individual stands for, but in case you have been living under a rock this is a good way to get an idea
of who you are going to be calling "president". Inauguration speeches tend to address certain issues
that the United States of America faces. There are some issues that are the same but one thing is
certain each president is going to have to face new obstacles ... Show more content on

And we will act, not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build

he wanted us to grow as a nation. He had a plan and he was going to follow through as best as he

enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry, subsidized the armies of other
countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military. One by one, the factories

American Exceptionalism In The United States
President Donald Trump took office on Friday, January 20, 2017, he started with an inaugural
address that was striking for both its bleakness and its constitutional promise of a better future.
Donald Trump's inauguration has sparked a reassessment of America's role in the world through the
president's statements about its interaction with international institutions and its willingness to
intervene in foreign conflicts. Debates about the nature of American power, and whether it
constitutes a modern 'empire', have been on–going for decades. In the past many scholars have had
varying interpretations about the idea of American exceptionalism. American exceptionalism can be
seen negatively, but for others it is an empowering concept. There are ... Show more content on

During the 2012 campaign, Mitt Romney declared, "Our president doesn't have the same feeling
about American exceptionalism that we do." (Romney, 2012) Not everything can be blamed on the
Obama administration, Americans attitudes have changes and so have the ideas that made America
special. It can be argued that religiosity, patriotism, and mobility are fading. (Beinart, 2014) As
America and Europe have changed over time, so have the attributes that exceptionalists claim
distinguish us from them. In the eyes of the contemporary right, there are three components that
make up American exceptionalism: "our belief in organized religion; our belief that America has a
special mission to spread freedom in the world; and our belief that we are a classless society where,
through limited government and free enterprise, anyone can get ahead." (Beinart, 2014) Trump
states, "When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice. The Bible tells us
how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity." (Trump, 2017) In this one
statement he notes the importance of patriotism and how religion shapes people morally. Patriotism
is an important aspect of American exceptionalism because the rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit
of happiness is an essence of American exceptionalism. Freedom

George Washington Inauguration Essay
1)George Washington (1789–1797) 1)April 30, 1789– Inauguration As The First President Of The
United States. This was the swearing in of George Washington as the first president of the United
States. This event took place on the balcony of the Federal Hall in New York, New York.
This marked the beginning of operations for the executive branch of the united states government
under the guidelines established by the 1787 constitution. This event also served as a symbolic
beginning of America's growing into its status as a country, and a rejection of the government of
Great Britain via establishing a political system without a monarch. 2)July 16, 1790 – Capital Of

This was enactment of the first part of Alexander's three part plan. It's goal was to establish credit
for the young nation's government.
This was a controversial plan that fed a need to relieve the war debts in the United States. This was
also integral in forming a difference between the United States and Great Britain, since unlike the
Bank of England it's focus was on funding internal improvements for the government 6) February
20, 1792– Establishment of the US Postal Service. This was signed into action by George
Washington via the Postal Service Act, establishing a federal nationwide service for sending and
receiving mail. It was established due to the frustration of many citizens in not being able to reliably
send and receive news.
This was an effort to connect all parts of the nation and spread information throughout the people.
This also solidified the importance of the postmaster general, which had been previously important

Donald Trump Speech Analysis
Before I read these three passages on Mr. Trump, I had to make sure that I had a clear mind and
wasn't going to be biased while reading. The way that one looks at our president is determined
completely on what side they are on. If one doesn't agree with what Trump has said in the past, then
there is no way that they aren't going to biased towards him. Now, if one is still undecided, then it is
going to be very easy for them to understand where Trump is coming from and understand him. Mr.
Donald Trump gave this inaugural speech on the day of January 20, 2017. The main idea of the
inauguration speech is to inform his people of the plans that he has during his presidency. The
speech is one that every president must give when he/she is elected as the president. Therefore, the
central idea of the speech varies from person to person but has the same concept throughout them
all. The way that the speech is structured varies from president to president but is usually structured
very similar to the main idea being either repeated or emphasized many times throughout the
speech. While looking at Trump's inauguration speech, he used his most famous catchphrase "Make
America Great Again" many different times. His main intention with using this was that his main
plan for the US is to fix all the bad things that Obama and other previous presidents caused. My
overall opinion of his speech is still undecided completely. Some of the things that he said I agree

President Trump Inauguration Speech
Friday evening, after I put my children to bed, I sat down and watched President Trump's
Inauguration speech online through ABC News. Throughout his speech, I felt like he is continuing
the path that he started, whether it ends up being amazingly good for our country or worse, has yet
to be determined. I did not vote for President Trump, however, I did not vote for Hillary Clinton
either. I did vote for Gary Johnson. I knew he wouldn't win, I was hoping he would reach that 5% of
the popular vote, therefore, he would be able to get government funding during the next election. I
felt neither of them was right for America. When President Trump won the election, so many of my
friends were upset, while many were excited. I am nervous and not really looking forward to what
his plans are. "We've made other countries rich while the wealth, strength, and confidence of our
country has dissipated over the horizon," President Donald Trump stated that in the beginning of the
middle of his speech. It stood out to me, I kept thinking about this line and thought about the video
we watched in class about world inequality. A lot of my friends feel this way. I did not know about

protesters yesterday might have been there just simply because their candidate lost. I am not sure
what the future holds and I do hope American's can come together as one again. The next four years,
I will be keeping an eye on my rights as a female, but I will also be keeping an eye on education. As

A Speech Of Inauguration Speech
Inauguration Speech: Nobody is perfect
My fellow Americans, it is the greatest of all honors to have been elected your president. Thank you
for trusting me to lead us in the right direction. This country is the greatest of its kind and must not
be lead astray by those who are ill–intentioned or ignorant. If there is one thing to be guaranteed
during my tenure in office, it is that you will all see I am human. During my campaign, we have
tried to paint the best picture, as have others. One thing we learned this election cycle is that if
someone appears to be perfect, they are simply not being honest. While the world looks at me under
a lens for four years, you will certainly see my shortcomings. With this being said, I will always do
what I truly believe is best for our nation as a whole. Just as I am, this nation is not perfect. America
is an example for every nation in the world to follow. Our ideologies are leading, but we have a lot
of work to do. In order to achieve the best we can be, we must all band together, as one. Let us be
united by the commonality that we are all different. This is truly the only way we will be able to
achieve justice for all.
One of our biggest shames has been the racial and social injustice that has scarred our land. I want to
enable a society that will break the generational cycle of hate. You cannot respond to hate with hate.
Two rights don't make a wrong and this is universal. Institutional oppression must end. Hatred of
any race, religion or creed by any person must not be tolerated. There is a fine line between free
speech and hate speech that must not be crossed. Just as we must not recognize free speech as hatred
because we do not like the opinion of others. An equal society means one of acceptance by all. Just
because you feel that you were wronged, does not mean you must wrong others. I will be calling for
a legislative plan to tackle policy that has oppressed citizens, and would be citizens of our country.
This will all be achieved while keeping our country safe, fair, and secure. In addition, many drug
laws will be rewritten. I do not believe that someone who made a mistake must pay for it their whole
lives. I do not believe that someone caught with a joint should be

Inauguration: Vendors In The United States
An inauguration is defined as, "an act of inaugurating; especially : a ceremonial induction into
office". [Merriam–Webster "inauguration"] Furthermore, to "inaugurate" simply means, "to
introduce (someone, such as a newly elected official)into a job or position with a formal ceremony".
[Merriam–Webster "inaugurate"] Simply put, an inauguration is a celebration of the new president
and vice president. First, the president and vice president participate in a swearing–in ceremony
which is held at the U.S. Capitol and is organized by the Joint Congressional Committee. During the
ceremony, the vice president gets sworn in first, then the president is sworn in at exactly noon. After

John F. Kennedy's Inaugural address
Analyzing one of the greatest Inaugural speeches
Taking the oath of office on the 20th of January 1961, John F. Kennedy Gave one of the most
influential and impactful inaugural speeches of all time. Opening by a addressing an end and a new
beginning, a renewal, as well as a change, Kennedy gave the american people optimism and the
hope they need to pull through the times of the cold war. He addressed the nations who wished to
befriend and the nations who sought to destroy us, that he will be willing to pay the price no matter
the cost to uphold and ensure that liberty strives. Diving deeper into the Rhetoric, and logic as well
as the charisma of one of the youngest presidents to hold office we wish to thoroughly analyze
Kennedy's inaugural speech from head to toe annotating Kennedys words of influence to conclude
the intentions he hope to have as a President.
Early in the beginning of the speech Kennedy took notice of how the world around the american
people was beginning to change. New issues arising from all over the globe that affected the course
our prosperous nation set sail in, "For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms
of human poverty and all forms of human life." Now this quote from the second paragraph and
fourth sentence of the speech comes to us in the form of a syllogism. While man has the power to rid
the world of poverty as well as human life, he can't simply because man's wants over exceed what

John F Kennedy's Inauguration Speech
John F. Kennedy's Inauguration Day John F. Kennedy was a very loved and admired president, his
speeches were eloquent and professional which made him one of the best presidents. Surely the
biggest day of his presidential life was his inauguration day, it was a whirlwind for him and his
family, according to Eleanor Clift's article, Inside Kennedy's Inauguration. Pictures from the
inauguration day also show Kennedy as the center of a positive attention from the American public.
While Clift captures how Kennedy's inauguration day affected his staff and family, Kennedy is
portrayed as an inspirational, unifying, and kind president in all three sources. In Kennedy's
inauguration speech his tone is unifying and he has a strong voice of reason to the American
citizens. He says, "My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what
together we can do for the freedom of man." This plea to his "fellow citizens" shows that Kennedy
is focused on the people of America and he wants them to be as much a part of the country as him.

Throughout the article Clift interviews some of the people that were closest to Kennedy on his
inauguration day. All of the interviews include a description of a very hustle and bustle day that flew
by in an instant from people like Philip Bobbitt, who was twelve at the time and the nephew of
Kennedy's vice president, and Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith, and the new president's assistant,
Richard Goodwin. One example is Jean Kennedy Smith's interview, who was Kennedy's oldest
siblings, who recalls Kennedy giving her and her other siblings signed pictures and eating fancy
food. On the other hand Philip Bobbitt only recalls his twelve year old self being very excited and
"mostly about being cold," this mostly shows how the day effected people

Essay on Rhetorical Devices in JFK's Inaugural Speech
Rhetorical Devices of JFK If a writer wanted to appeal to the audience, what would he have to do?
He is going to have to utilize some rhetorical devices of course! Rhetorical devices are key in
writing persuasion papers and just any paper that is meant to be read to an audience. In the
Inauguration Speech of 1961 given by President John F. Kennedy, he was able to really connect with
his audience that day by using lots of different rhetorical devices. By using chiasmus, anaphoras,
and metaphors, JFK was able to effectively reach and persuade people to have faith in him despite
his age and religion. Perhaps the most important line of JFK's entire inaugural address was a
utilization of chiasmus, which is a figure of speech by which ... Show more content on

He is asking the American population a few favors that could very easily be carried out that would
improve our nation as a whole. Metaphors are very prevalent throughout the entire speech of JFK. A
metaphor is a comparison, or an analogy, that states one thing is anther. The earliest use of metaphor
by JFK was about a torch. "Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike,
that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans" (Kennedy, 2). This gives us a good
idea of how Kennedy felt about someone his age becoming president. He felt that it was a new era in
American history and he was the leading the way on a new movement towards a better America. A
torch is used to light the way on a path that is yet to be traveled, just as Kennedy had been given the
power to lead the way for our country down the unlit path and decide for us whether or not we will
prosper. Without the use of rhetorical devices, writers would be lost. There would be no way for
them to pull the reader into what they have to say. John F. Kennedy sure knew how to woo people
with his words and thank goodness he did. If he didn't have rhetorical devices, Kennedy never
would have been able to get the message of what he was trying to achieve across to his readers and
listeners and probably never would have gained as much support as he did. Rhetorical devices not
only make a piece of writing sound better, but

Donald Trump Speech Analysis
Politicians are notorious for skilled uses of rhetoric. Donald Trump is no different. From his debate
speeches, to his Inaugural address, Trump demonstrated mastery of rhetoric time and time again.
With a passionate, emotional voice, Trump wrote an American–centered political address that was
broadcasted to millions of Americans across the country. In order for his people to believe he would
benefit the country, Trump knew he had to make an impact in their heads, and in their hearts, and he
knew using deep emotions would be the key to capturing both.
Donald Trump. Devoted father. Husband. Wildly successful, skilled businessman. President of the
United States. Trump builds his argument of ethos simply by his name. When people hear his name,
they think of an unbelievably successful man with wit, business smarts, and excellent leadership
capabilities. If Trump can successfully manage an entire empire of hotels, country clubs, and golf
courses, it seems logical that he would appeal to millions of Americans during his presidential race.
If he could accomplish all that, he should be able to successfully lead the free world. Turns out,
people thought exactly that.
Trump appeals to the people using the argument of pathos, or emotion, throughout his entire
Inaugural address. "We, the citizens of America, are now joined..."(Bannon and Miller, 2017, para.
2). The word "we," refers to everyone, including Trump himself, implying that the entire country is
now joined together in the task

Jfk Inauguration Speech Analysis
The best inauguration speech in history was held by John Fitzgerald Kennedy on January 20, 1961.
Kennedy helped America realize being a whole country is imperative. The reason for that is, when
the whole country is together nothing can defeat them. To start with, he said, "Ask not what your
country do for you, rather ask what you can do for your country." He opened up America's minds to
be superior and have world peace with one another. This also made Americans able not to focus on
themselves, but for Americans to be focused on other Americans. Kennedy brought America
together by encouraging them to be selfless. Furthermore, Kennedy also stated, "We shall pay any
price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival
and success of liberty." With this being announced, Kennedy was expressing that Americans need to
do whatever it takes to accomplish liberty, do whatever it takes to create world peace, do whatever it
takes to have a clean–slate with everyone, so that there will be no grief in America. ... Show more

Wars are necessary within certain circumstances, but as Kennedy approached, Americans need to
have a whole, united, and considerate nation before they can do anything. If America is a whole,
who can stop them? Given these points, as obvious Kennedy had one thing in mind, that was for
Americans to have a reconciliation with one another. America has to be a fulfilled, united nation
before it can do anything. So yes, by John Fitzgerald Kennedy having the desire to be a united,
peaceful nation, he gave the best inauguration speech in

Donald Trump's Inauguration Ceremony

The inauguration ceremony was organized very well for the fact that it was all about how they

were about the people how that America belongs to us the people just as he was expressing in his

speech promising America will "win again." His promises on how he was going to make America

good things and bad things that his speech had but in general, I have to say it was a really good
speech.
Donald Trump's minor issue was that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example when he wasn't racist in his speech he felt that everyone was one and that us the people
are a unity. To support my evidence on why he was not racist was because he said in his speech that
" whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots." He
expressed that we are the same and that everyone deserves the glorious freedom as he says in his
speech. Another reason why there were some good things in his speech was that he sought the
people's safety from the enemies that the United States has, Trump, states that " We will be protected
by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement.". This ensures people that Trump
will do the all he can to keep America safe from terrorist and future threats.
When I saw the inaugural speech I was impressed by the fact that he's not an expert in politics and
he managed to get this far and for America to know him for who he really is. Knowing that he can't
control his mouth and control for what he's saying for me it was a short speech but successful. One
thing that Trump brought up to his speech was when he said "The Bible tells us how good and

Rhetorical Analysis Of President Obama 's Inauguration...
Rhetorical Analysis: President Obama 's Inauguration Speech 2013 President Barack Obama's
campaign theme in 2013 was to bring change throughout the United States, and he continues on
with this motto while thanking the American people. He does this by stating the change he plans to

Obama is addressing all of american people that voted for and against him,by continuously referring
to them as a team.He wants them to keep in mind he plans to work with them on several issues
rather than stick to his own opinions. Bringing up several well known quotes and facts about

Frank's Explaination of the Main Characterstics in Obama's...
Frank (2009) examines three characteristics in Obama's inauguration speech– mythic, literary, and
rhetoric– to explicates how the president fit these signatures into resurrection of a cosmopolitan
expression of American Civil Religion. He surmises Obama sets out to create a multi–religious and
racial American culture; this deviates from conventional westernized philosophy, which espouses
that propositions cannot be simultaneously true and differences never coincide. Rhetoric, in
contrary, deals with soft oppositions and is debatable, offering leeway for identities to reconcile.

contemplative expository function differentiates inaugurals from State of Union address, in which
proposals are presented for congressional action" (p. 40). Hence, Frank should have made clear
Obama's vision that forms the basis of his signatures instead of policies. Furthermore, I suppose
there are two critical ideas behind Obama's encouragement of a cosmopolitan civil religion that
Frank should explicate. First, the address's theme can be succinctly expressed as harnessing strength
from America's common history. Beyond simply an advocacy for unity, Obama has the intention to
motivate a collective call–to–action in response to the detrimental 2008 Global Financial Crisis
(Allen and Carletti, 2009), and to preserve social stability by mitigating prevailing distrust against
Muslims due to September 11 attacks (Mcmorris, 2010). Calling for unity is in fact a springboard to
motivate a collective call–to–action. Obama mentions, "we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and
the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that
there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a
difficult task". Next, bringing citizens together has a role at the inaugural ceremony itself. As
Campbell argues, "Once the audience has been united, it can perform its role in the inaugural
ceremony. Inaugural addresses themselves attest to the witnessing

he Cost of Presidential Inaugurations
The costs of presidential inaugurations are very expensive according to this article. The peaceful

celebration will cost an estimated $175 million to $200 million. However, this process happens
every four years, and every time, critics cry about all the money spent. The truth is that both parties,

sometimes people are not too happy about the money spent for either a Republican or a Democrat.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Success Is Counted Sweetest
Rhetorical Analysis Abraham Lincoln's "Second Inaugural Address" and Emily Dickinson's
"Success is Counted Sweet," are two inspirational pieces of art that fall under two different types of
discourses. The "Second Inaugural Address," is a great example and definition of what Rhetoric is.
It encompasses all four resources of languages– argument, appeal, arrangement, and artistic devices.
"Success is Counted Sweet," doesn't cover the four resources of language that apply to rhetoric;
therefore, it is categorized as a poem. According to the chapter, "rhetoric addresses unresolved
issues that do not dictate a particular outcome and in the process it engages our value
commitments." (15). We see how Lincoln's inaugural speech tries to engage ... Show more content

He states how both, the North and South, "read the same Bible and pray to the same God," and
neither the North nor South expected for the war the magnitude or the duration which it attained.
Lincoln also maintains an optimistic tone throughout the speech and invokes unity with his parallel
structured sentences. Emily Dickinson's "Success is Counted Sweetest," doesn't cover all four
resources of language. It is a poem that does not call for action but does create an emotional appeal
for the people. Throughout her poem, she created an emotional appeal for success and its value and
the desire and want for success. We see how she creates such emotion when she states, "The distant
strains of triumph break, agonizing and clear." What Dickinson means by this is that gaining success
can be the most beautiful accomplishment but at the same time, agonizing to reach. This creates an
emotional appeal for those who are living through the Civil War, making the people have a desire
for peace, but they have to go through bloodshed in the process of gaining success. Emily Dickinson
carries out artistic devices throughout her poem, which also creates an emotional appeal for the
audience. She uses metaphors to describe success by stating, "Success is counted sweetest."
Dickinson also uses her poem to recreate what was occurring at the time of the war. She speaks of
the "purple Host" which is the representation of the Army and "capturing the

Jfk Inauguration Speech Analysis
John F. Kennedy gave the best inauguration speech in history. One reason why he gave the best
inaugural address was because he wanted peace with other countries and he didn't want for them to
be fighting over certain things. Another reason why he gave the best inauguration speech was
because he wanted everyone to have freedom in what they did or what they wanted to do. Also
because he didn't want others telling someone what they had to do or what or what not to do. With
him saying that he wanted everyone to have their freedom and have peace with other countries a lot
of people began to support on what his thoughts were of others countries with this one, and also they
liked him because they wanted him to help them to gain their freedom. One reason why John F.
Kennedy gave the best inauguration speech was because he wanted peace with other countries. For
example, one thing he said was " Finally, to those nations who would make themselves our
adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace, before
the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental
self–destruction." Whenever he said that he was trying to express to everyone that he did not want to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk Inaugural Address
JFK's Inaugural Address: A Rhetorical Analysis A president's inaugural address is perhaps one of the
most defining aspects of their entire career due to the inclusion of carefully woven emotional
appeals and blandishments that encourage the citizens to become more politically active. The
enticing nature of these empty promises infiltrates virtually every American's mind, signifying a
beginning to a promising era that results in feelings of patriotic optimism. The charismatic and
youthful president John F. Kennedy successfully assuaged the nation's anxiety and utilized his
powerful platform to promote worldwide cooperation and unity that could uplift America. Through
the use of his firm yet optimistic tone, Kennedy conveys the importance of compromise in a world
where malignance remains prevalent and utter obliteration is potentially seconds away. In the
introduction of his speech, JFK acknowledges the changing times by juxtaposing current events with
those of the simpler past. This man was inaugurated in the midst of the Cold War, one of the most
significant conflicts in American history that was successful in generating fear amongst the masses
due to the looming possibility of worldwide destruction (Zubok). As America's vulnerability was
exposed, the people were in desperate need of a reliable leader who could reintegrate hope into their
daily lives; this was easily achieved through their exposure to the president's truthfully optimistic
tone. Kennedy does not remain oblivious to the issues that have dictated foreign relations for years,
acknowledging the fact that, "... man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of
human poverty and all forms of human life" (Kennedy). This personal integration of a reflective and
solemn tone that is further exemplified through emotionally charged diction is successful in
establishing the foundation of his speech, for it informs the nation of the impending threats.
However, he counteracts the negativity by conveying to the people that his tactical approach will
focus on the "survival and success of liberty" (Kennedy). These quotes are directly related to the
speech's appeal due to the fact that Kennedy presents himself as a well–informed individual who is

Rhetorical Analysis of John F. Kennedy's Inauguration Speech
On a cold January day America's newly appointed president John F. Kennedy delivered his
inauguration address that was incredibly important to America's success during the Cold War.
Kennedy uses his speech as a call to arms, but not only to America but the World and our allies as a
whole. He uses his strong powerful voice to appeal to the ethics of the country in the beginning of
his speech telling America about the promise we made when we were founded and that we must
uphold it still today, telling America we must make a difference. Kennedy also uses ethics to explain
that we the people are united no matter what your background or where you are from, he refers to
the Americas as one place, because he wants for us to feel unified not divided. Furthermore
Kennedy's use of powerful imagery, logic and pathos allows for him to effectively call the people of
the World together during this terrible time.
With the threat that the Cold War brought to America Kennedy's use of Ethos incredibly helps him
to thoroughly get his point across to the rest of the World that they must band together. His use of
ethos is primarily found in the beginning of his speech where he reminds America that "we are heirs
of that first revolution" and that now we are "proud of our ancient heritage–– and unwilling to
witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been
committed, and to

The Inauguration Of Our New Commander
As we draw closer to the inauguration of our new Commander in Chief, one cannot help but evoke
memories of the turbulent and tumultuous process of deciding who the next elected official to hold
the highest job position in our nation would be. There was great dissent across the country which
spawned into hateful rhetoric spewed by elitist hate groups, perpetuated even further through news
outlets and social media. A bombardment of negative images and stories revolving around walls,
kneeling for the national anthem, interracial violence, deportation, and segregation. All examples of
issues that tear at the fabric of the patchwork quilt that truly made America great.

Inside Kennedy's Inauguration Speech Analysis
Kennedy's legacy is one that will live on forever in the minds of all Americans. Whether it be his
respect for others or the goals he established to better the world as a whole, Kennedy is a president
remembered for the good he wished to see in the world. Kennedy's "Inaugural Address, January 20
1961" and "Inside Kennedy's Inauguration" were effective in conveying JFK's legacy; however
"Inside Kennedy's Inauguration" was more effective based on the stylistic elements used. The
repetition of words is what shows the reader what is truly important to the author or speaker. JFK
repeated the phrase "Let both sides" five times on just one page of his Inauguration speech. The
author of "Inside Kennedy's Inauguration" repeated the words "Freezing", "Snow", and "Cold" on
numerous occasions throughout his article. This technique is on widely used to further the author's
thesis statement without them having to explain it directly. The repetition instills the words into the
reader's' mind, to ensure that if they don't remember anything else from the text, they will remember
those keywords. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The casual tone of the article helps the reader better connect with the text, and makes Kennedy
seems more personable. The tone is especially evident in phrase such as this one, found in paragraph
9, where Kennedy grandchild Kathleen remembers the day by saying "I knew I was supposed to
think this was very historic, but all the adults were taller and we couldn't see well." While the speech
would never include a quote like this due to its formal tone, the casual language used by Kathleen
really makes the reader feel connected to the Kennedy family. The informal language really shows
that Kennedy was a people person, and that all Americans left as if he was one of them. JFK was a
family man whose positive legacy lives on today, and the tone of this essay demonstrates that

Rhetorical Devices In Jfk's Inaugural Address
Styles like rhetorical devices, literary devices, rhetorical appeals, and tone were used to convey John
Fitzgerald Kennedy's legacy that he was the one who provided Americans with idealism and
inspired them to serve their country and the world united with one another. Kennedy once stated,
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you– ask what you can do for
your country." In Kennedy's Inaugural Address and Inside Kennedy's Inauguration, 50 Years On by
Eleanor Clift, both passages used rhetorical devices. Although, Kennedy utilized figurative language
and repetition, while Clift applied imagery. Kennedy utilized many metaphors to help get his point
across in an exaggerated way that would stick in the Americans minds. In his speech, he stated,
"Those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside." The same goes
for his use of repetition because the more he repeats himself the easier it is for people to follow and
remember what he is saying. Words like "To" and "Let both sides" were used multiple times.
Imagery was applied by Clift to help people visualize what the eve and day of Kennedy's
inauguration felt and looked like. She used words like "sunny and cold," "gusty winds," "snow fell
heavily and steadily," and "eight–inch white blanket." Literary devices such as parallelism,
antithesis, and short paragraphs were used in Kennedy's inauguration speech and not in the other
two documents. These devices contributed to his

He knew how to draw the interest of the spectators by using words in their vocabulary that was
easier to understand. He used his background and ethics to effectively connect with the audience.
Kennedy's speech was aimed at the audience to accomplish two key objectives: assemble an alliance
between Americans and the rest of the world, and call the country to duty. Kennedy was very
focused on global problems and international character, and he used straightforward diction to
portray his ideas to the audience.
Kennedy uses several sources of alliteration throughout the speech to create an engaging atmosphere
for his listeners. "Let us go forth to lead the land we love..." is one example of Kennedy's use of
alliteration in the speech. It adds to the textual density of the speech and helps make it less difficult
for the listeners to follow along. He uses the alliteration "Pay any price, bear any burden..." to
encourage the spectators to support his ideas of the success and liberty of

John F Kennedy's Inaugural Speech
Throughout the course of human civilization, there has been a need for a leader to rally up a nation
during desperate times. During the early 60s, America was faced with numerous challenges, the
threat from Russia, the war at Vietnam, and also the poverty problem that occurs within the country.
Despite all this, John F. Kennedy, a man who was born within one of the most depressed moment in
American history, had united and guided his country thought the crisis. When Kennedy was elected
as the 35th President of the United States, he was to deliver a speech in front of the world during his

He mentioned the war that was happening in Vietnam and the cold war with Russia, "And yet the
same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe."
("1961–01–20 Inaugural Address"). This part of the speech introduce the fact that countries like
Vietnam and Russia still exist and citizens at those countries are still fighting for independence and
freedom. It is possible to see that Kennedy would like to encourage democracy in those countries;
however, his main priority was to maintain peace with those nations as it is shown in his speech,
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes...support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival
and the success of liberty."("1961–01–20 Inaugural Address"). On the other hand, Kennedy also
expressed his view towards the domestic problem of America, "For man holds in his mortal hands
the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life."("1961–01–20

in America, and it is achieve by both the government and the citizens. Overall, Kennedy hit most of

Ethos In Jfk Inaugural Speech
John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th president of the United States of America on January 20,
1961. He was only 43 when he was sworn into office, the youngest president ever elected. Kennedy
ran against Richard Nixon, the Republican nominated candidate. Nixon made it a large point in
mudslinging during the presidential campaign to point out Kennedy's young age. Kennedy had to
prove, not only to Nixon, but the rest of the country, that he was capable of being the commander in
chief of one of the most powerful nations. His first spoken words after being sworn in were
extremely influential. In JFK's inaugural speech he addresses more than just his fellow Americans,
but citizens of the world. He outlines the changing tensions of the world and how it is in the hands
of the people to keep things at peace. Kennedy states, "The torch has been passed to a new
generation of Americans..." (1), a bold and powerful statement, showing his confidence to lead. His
inauguration was supposed to set a spark of renewal and change. JFK wanted to take advantage of
this spark and call Americans to action, unite them and the rest of the world, as one group of people.
One can see an example of ethos in the opening of the speech. Kennedy states that his presidential
win is not only a victory for his party, but for everyone. He wants his inauguration is to be a
celebration of freedom. This leads one to trust in his words and think of his victory as a victory for
us all. This shows his value on

Pathos In Jfk Inaugural Speech
President John F. Kennedy was shot in November 22, 1963 which lead to his legacy being different
and different to many people. People wondered what truly could've happened if he was there for all
his four years of presidency and many doubted John F. Kennedy if he was frankly ready to proceed
with his leadership. Now seeing his speeches, one can tell what styles he used to persuade the
audience to make him where he was that day.(elected President) Using John F, Kennedy's
Inauguration day, shows us how the formats he used were appealing to others when it came to him

To begin with, John F. Kennedy used pathos to grab the attention of his audience at the Inauguration

Jfk Inaugural Speech Essay
The inaugurations of presidents have always been momentous events in American history. These
include the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. Many Americans remember this day as the
beginning of Kennedy's legacy, one that revolved around uniting the people of the United States of
America to work towards a positive future, as well as uniting the countries of the world. Kennedy's
inaugural address and a photograph, credited to the United States Army Signal Corps, of Chief
Justice Earl Warren administering the Oath of Office to Kennedy uncover and emphasize how unity
among Americans was a vital aspect of his legacy as President. Eleanor Clift, an American political
reporter, shows in her article, "Inside Kennedy's Inauguration, 50 Years On," how memorable
Kennedy's inauguration is for Americans, and how memorable Kennedy himself is as President.
Kennedy's inaugural address reveals his legacy by expressing his goal of unifying Americans using
antithesis and syntax to contrast selfishness with selflessness, emphasizing that Americans should be
working towards selflessness and unification. The photograph of Kennedy taking the oath of office
mirrors his legacy of unifying the country and the virtue of selflessness with its wide range,
capturing not only Kennedy, but the people around him as well. In his address, Kennedy speaks of
how opposing sides in any fight should work together towards a common goal, rather than fight
each other and never be able to achieve their goals.

Rhetorical Analysis of President Obama's Inauguration Speech
On January 20, 2009, President Obama was officially inaugurated and sworn in as the forty–fourth
president of the United States of America. The tradition of being inaugurated requires the president
to give a speech about the goals they want to reach during their presidency. The president must
make a speech that appeals to the audience while being professional. Rhetoric is a useful strategy to
utilize in speech making. Obama uses rhetoric to achieve presenting his message of creating hope
and change together in America while fixing the economic and social challenges and issues left
behind from the previous president. Barack Obama uses syntax, the rhetorical triangle, and diction
to portray his message. One prominent rhetorical syntax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obama's use of parallelism brings the speech together and implies a sense of power and instruction.
A second rhetorical syntax strategy used by Obama is his use of phrases similar to "not only, but
also". Obama uses this strategy to show that there is more than one outcome to each of his
propositions. One example is when he says "...not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new
foundation for growth" (Barack Obama's Inaugural Address 2). Barack Obama is telling the
audience that we need to take multiple steps in order to grow as a nation. When Obama says "The
success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but
on the reach of our prosperity", he is again showing how more than one cause is and will be
responsible for an outcome (Barack Obama's Inaugural Address 2). When Obama tells the nation
about these causes and effects, the audience is given direct orders to try and make the causes
possible. Obama also uses the strategy of allusions. At the very end of Obama's speech, he alludes to
a quotation from the father of our nation, George Washington. The quotation talks about how "that
in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive... that the city and the
country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]" (Barack Obama's Inaugural
Address 4). The quotation means that no matter how tough times are, the

This is the reason why the tenor of Kennedy's speech is focused on world unity against tyranny
while the speech of Obama is geared more on economic progress within the country. The
presentation of both inaugural addresses is very important and connected with each other well. This
argument is more related in the first except that this is more detailed. It is undeniable that Obama is
more eloquent compared to Kennedy that is why he received more applause from the audience (It
seems like it after every word). However, it can be gleaned in the way Kennedy presented his speech
that he is more relaxed compared to Obama, perhaps, because the latter is facing more burden in
saving the national debt, which the former do not have to consider as top priority. At the time when
Kennedy delivered his speech, he is confident that the country is wealthy and even offered to help or
assist those countries that are poor if permitted. Aside from that, the eloquence of Obama was given
more meaning when the listeners who are present during the inauguration applauded him more;

Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk's Inaugural Address
JFK had many great speeches, the biggest and best arguably being his Inaugural Address. If you
think that giving a speech to gather followers is easy, you're wrong. It is an art, there are many trick
to it. Some people have mastered this, and JFK has mastered this by using the ethos of ethos a lot in
his speeches. The idea of teamwork is a common theme to him.
" Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. " These are the
famous words said by JFK in his inaugural address. These words have power, they give you a
feeling of humbleness. This is pathos, It gives you almost a saddening feeling. It makes you feel like
you expect a lot, but also makes you want to give. "Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well
or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose
any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty. This much we pledge –– and more." This
was said to let every other nation know that we as americans will do everything in our power to
make sure America strives and succeeds. As commander and chief, that is a very good thing to tell
your people. It's like a football coach pumping his team up before a game. It gives you a sense of

Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address
The inaugural address and the other documents have parts in common. As the tone and style all were
written. They all are based around John F. Kennedy and the way he was portrayed in this nation. The
documents that were used were his inauguration address,Inside Kennedy's Inauguration and a photo
of JFK Inauguration. The documents and photos all concluded that JFK was seen as a great
president and only wanted to move the country forward to the future.
The first document JFK talks about on how he will move the country forward with him in place. The
document included a lot of style and rhetorical devices. For example he used Anastrophe when he
said "This much we pledge, and more" to emphasise his contribution with everyone else. John F.
Kennedy was seen a president for the people and they appraised him for it. He uses lots of rhetorical
devices to his message across. It makes him sound like a true president for the people as in he wants
to help out the community rather than just to do business. One of the other examples in this
document was when he states "and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power
by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside." was used as a metaphor. This example showed John
F. Kennedy feelings to those who choose to side with a communist way of ruling a country. When he
says this it's very clear what side he is on. Aswell he uses it as a way to inform people that
communist countries aren't the way to go and there very dangerous. As

Inauguration Speech

  • 1. Inauguration Speech When a new president is elected it is expected of she or he to address their plan for the next four years; and how they are going to execute said plan. This formality is the Inauguration speech. What is said during this ceremony gives you an idea of who's taking office if you have been paying attention during the months leading up to the election you have a very good idea of what the individual stands for, but in case you have been living under a rock this is a good way to get an idea of who you are going to be calling "president". Inauguration speeches tend to address certain issues that the United States of America faces. There are some issues that are the same but one thing is certain each president is going to have to face new obstacles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And we will act, not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age." not did he only address our economy but our education, healthcare but that he wanted us to grow as a nation. He had a plan and he was going to follow through as best as he could. Our current president also addressed the same issue and he stated "For many decades we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry, subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military. One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores with not even a thought about the millions and millions of American workers that were left behind." Trump addresses the issue but he just blames the rest of the world instead of trying to solve said issue he has no plan he is just stating something he has said multiple times in the past. • 3. American Exceptionalism In The United States President Donald Trump took office on Friday, January 20, 2017, he started with an inaugural address that was striking for both its bleakness and its constitutional promise of a better future. Donald Trump's inauguration has sparked a reassessment of America's role in the world through the president's statements about its interaction with international institutions and its willingness to intervene in foreign conflicts. Debates about the nature of American power, and whether it constitutes a modern 'empire', have been on–going for decades. In the past many scholars have had varying interpretations about the idea of American exceptionalism. American exceptionalism can be seen negatively, but for others it is an empowering concept. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the 2012 campaign, Mitt Romney declared, "Our president doesn't have the same feeling about American exceptionalism that we do." (Romney, 2012) Not everything can be blamed on the Obama administration, Americans attitudes have changes and so have the ideas that made America special. It can be argued that religiosity, patriotism, and mobility are fading. (Beinart, 2014) As America and Europe have changed over time, so have the attributes that exceptionalists claim distinguish us from them. In the eyes of the contemporary right, there are three components that make up American exceptionalism: "our belief in organized religion; our belief that America has a special mission to spread freedom in the world; and our belief that we are a classless society where, through limited government and free enterprise, anyone can get ahead." (Beinart, 2014) Trump states, "When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice. The Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity." (Trump, 2017) In this one statement he notes the importance of patriotism and how religion shapes people morally. Patriotism is an important aspect of American exceptionalism because the rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is an essence of American exceptionalism. Freedom ... This was the swearing in of George Washington as the first president of the United States. This event took place on the balcony of the Federal Hall in New York, New York. This marked the beginning of operations for the executive branch of the united states government under the guidelines established by the 1787 constitution. This event also served as a symbolic beginning of America's growing into its status as a country, and a rejection of the government of Great Britain via establishing a political system without a monarch. 2)July 16, 1790 – Capital Of The United States Established As Washington, D.C. It's goal was to establish credit for the young nation's government. This was a controversial plan that fed a need to relieve the war debts in the United States. This was signed into action by George Washington via the Postal Service Act, establishing a federal nationwide service for sending and receiving mail. • 7. Donald Trump Speech Analysis Before I read these three passages on Mr. Trump, I had to make sure that I had a clear mind and wasn't going to be biased while reading. The way that one looks at our president is determined completely on what side they are on. If one doesn't agree with what Trump has said in the past, then there is no way that they aren't going to biased towards him. Now, if one is still undecided, then it is going to be very easy for them to understand where Trump is coming from and understand him. Mr. Donald Trump gave this inaugural speech on the day of January 20, 2017. The main idea of the inauguration speech is to inform his people of the plans that he has during his presidency. The speech is one that every president must give when he/she is elected as the president. Therefore, the central idea of the speech varies from person to person but has the same concept throughout them all. The way that the speech is structured varies from president to president but is usually structured very similar to the main idea being either repeated or emphasized many times throughout the speech. While looking at Trump's inauguration speech, he used his most famous catchphrase "Make America Great Again" many different times. His main intention with using this was that his main plan for the US is to fix all the bad things that Obama and other previous presidents caused. My overall opinion of his speech is still undecided completely. Some of the things that he said I agree with while other I am ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. President Trump Inauguration Speech Friday evening, after I put my children to bed, I sat down and watched President Trump's Inauguration speech online through ABC News. Throughout his speech, I felt like he is continuing the path that he started, whether it ends up being amazingly good for our country or worse, has yet to be determined. I did not vote for President Trump, however, I did not vote for Hillary Clinton either. I did vote for Gary Johnson. I knew he wouldn't win, I was hoping he would reach that 5% of the popular vote, therefore, he would be able to get government funding during the next election. I felt neither of them was right for America. When President Trump won the election, so many of my friends were upset, while many were excited. I am nervous and not really looking forward to what his plans are. "We've made other countries rich while the wealth, strength, and confidence of our country has dissipated over the horizon," President Donald Trump stated that in the beginning of the middle of his speech. It stood out to me, I kept thinking about this line and thought about the video we watched in class about world inequality. A lot of my friends feel this way. I did not know about ... If he does, I hope everyone and more that did not walk on Saturday, are there to continue to fight for our rights. I worry that a lot of the protesters yesterday might have been there just simply because their candidate lost. I am not sure what the future holds and I do hope American's can come together as one again. • 11. A Speech Of Inauguration Speech Inauguration Speech: Nobody is perfect My fellow Americans, it is the greatest of all honors to have been elected your president. Thank you for trusting me to lead us in the right direction. This country is the greatest of its kind and must not be lead astray by those who are ill–intentioned or ignorant. If there is one thing to be guaranteed during my tenure in office, it is that you will all see I am human. During my campaign, we have tried to paint the best picture, as have others. One thing we learned this election cycle is that if someone appears to be perfect, they are simply not being honest. While the world looks at me under a lens for four years, you will certainly see my shortcomings. With this being said, I will always do what I truly believe is best for our nation as a whole. Just as I am, this nation is not perfect. America is an example for every nation in the world to follow. Our ideologies are leading, but we have a lot of work to do. In order to achieve the best we can be, we must all band together, as one. Let us be united by the commonality that we are all different. This is truly the only way we will be able to achieve justice for all. One of our biggest shames has been the racial and social injustice that has scarred our land. I want to enable a society that will break the generational cycle of hate. You cannot respond to hate with hate. Two rights don't make a wrong and this is universal. Institutional oppression must end. Hatred of any race, religion or creed by any person must not be tolerated. There is a fine line between free speech and hate speech that must not be crossed. Just as we must not recognize free speech as hatred because we do not like the opinion of others. An equal society means one of acceptance by all. Just because you feel that you were wronged, does not mean you must wrong others. I will be calling for a legislative plan to tackle policy that has oppressed citizens, and would be citizens of our country. This will all be achieved while keeping our country safe, fair, and secure. In addition, many drug laws will be rewritten. I do not believe that someone who made a mistake must pay for it their whole lives. I do not believe that someone caught with a joint should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mom, Dad, and Abby were all with me and we were in Columbia, Missouri and were about to leave for Jefferson City Missouri. I wore a brand new suit coat, a white collared shirt, a red tie and a nice pair of black pants. I also loaded up my violin because I was to perform in the interfaith church service at 9:00. • 17. Jfk Inaugural Address John F. Kennedy's Inaugural address Analyzing one of the greatest Inaugural speeches Taking the oath of office on the 20th of January 1961, John F. Kennedy Gave one of the most influential and impactful inaugural speeches of all time. Opening by a addressing an end and a new beginning, a renewal, as well as a change, Kennedy gave the american people optimism and the hope they need to pull through the times of the cold war. He addressed the nations who wished to befriend and the nations who sought to destroy us, that he will be willing to pay the price no matter the cost to uphold and ensure that liberty strives. Diving deeper into the Rhetoric, and logic as well as the charisma of one of the youngest presidents to hold office we wish to thoroughly analyze Kennedy's inaugural speech from head to toe annotating Kennedys words of influence to conclude the intentions he hope to have as a President. Early in the beginning of the speech Kennedy took notice of how the world around the american people was beginning to change. New issues arising from all over the globe that affected the course our prosperous nation set sail in, "For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life." Now this quote from the second paragraph and fourth sentence of the speech comes to us in the form of a syllogism. While man has the power to rid the world of poverty as well as human life, he can't simply because man's wants over exceed what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. John F Kennedy's Inauguration Speech John F. Kennedy's Inauguration Day John F. Kennedy was a very loved and admired president, his speeches were eloquent and professional which made him one of the best presidents. Surely the biggest day of his presidential life was his inauguration day, it was a whirlwind for him and his family, according to Eleanor Clift's article, Inside Kennedy's Inauguration. Pictures from the inauguration day also show Kennedy as the center of a positive attention from the American public. While Clift captures how Kennedy's inauguration day affected his staff and family, Kennedy is portrayed as an inspirational, unifying, and kind president in all three sources. In Kennedy's inauguration speech his tone is unifying and he has a strong voice of reason to the American citizens. He says, "My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." This plea to his "fellow citizens" shows that Kennedy is focused on the people of America and he wants them to be as much a part of the country as him. One example is Jean Kennedy Smith's interview, who was Kennedy's oldest siblings, who recalls Kennedy giving her and her other siblings signed pictures and eating fancy food. • 23. Essay on Rhetorical Devices in JFK's Inaugural Speech Rhetorical Devices of JFK If a writer wanted to appeal to the audience, what would he have to do? He is going to have to utilize some rhetorical devices of course! Rhetorical devices are key in writing persuasion papers and just any paper that is meant to be read to an audience. In the Inauguration Speech of 1961 given by President John F. Kennedy, he was able to really connect with his audience that day by using lots of different rhetorical devices. By using chiasmus, anaphoras, and metaphors, JFK was able to effectively reach and persuade people to have faith in him despite his age and religion. Perhaps the most important line of JFK's entire inaugural address was a utilization of chiasmus, which is a figure of speech by which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is asking the American population a few favors that could very easily be carried out that would improve our nation as a whole. Metaphors are very prevalent throughout the entire speech of JFK. A metaphor is a comparison, or an analogy, that states one thing is anther. The earliest use of metaphor by JFK was about a torch. "Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans" (Kennedy, 2). This gives us a good idea of how Kennedy felt about someone his age becoming president. He felt that it was a new era in American history and he was the leading the way on a new movement towards a better America. A torch is used to light the way on a path that is yet to be traveled, just as Kennedy had been given the power to lead the way for our country down the unlit path and decide for us whether or not we will prosper. Without the use of rhetorical devices, writers would be lost. There would be no way for them to pull the reader into what they have to say. John F. Kennedy sure knew how to woo people with his words and thank goodness he did. If he didn't have rhetorical devices, Kennedy never would have been able to get the message of what he was trying to achieve across to his readers and listeners and probably never would have gained as much support as he did. • 25. Donald Trump Speech Analysis Politicians are notorious for skilled uses of rhetoric. Donald Trump is no different. From his debate speeches, to his Inaugural address, Trump demonstrated mastery of rhetoric time and time again. With a passionate, emotional voice, Trump wrote an American–centered political address that was broadcasted to millions of Americans across the country. In order for his people to believe he would benefit the country, Trump knew he had to make an impact in their heads, and in their hearts, and he knew using deep emotions would be the key to capturing both. Donald Trump. Devoted father. Husband. Wildly successful, skilled businessman. President of the United States. Trump builds his argument of ethos simply by his name. When people hear his name, they think of an unbelievably successful man with wit, business smarts, and excellent leadership capabilities. If Trump can successfully manage an entire empire of hotels, country clubs, and golf courses, it seems logical that he would appeal to millions of Americans during his presidential race. If he could accomplish all that, he should be able to successfully lead the free world. Turns out, people thought exactly that. Trump appeals to the people using the argument of pathos, or emotion, throughout his entire Inaugural address. "We, the citizens of America, are now joined..."(Bannon and Miller, 2017, para. 2). • 27. Jfk Inauguration Speech Analysis The best inauguration speech in history was held by John Fitzgerald Kennedy on January 20, 1961. Kennedy helped America realize being a whole country is imperative. The reason for that is, when the whole country is together nothing can defeat them. To start with, he said, "Ask not what your country do for you, rather ask what you can do for your country." He opened up America's minds to be superior and have world peace with one another. This also made Americans able not to focus on themselves, but for Americans to be focused on other Americans. Kennedy brought America together by encouraging them to be selfless. Furthermore, Kennedy also stated, "We shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of liberty." With this being announced, Kennedy was expressing that Americans need to do whatever it takes to accomplish liberty, do whatever it takes to create world peace, do whatever it takes to have a clean–slate with everyone, so that there will be no grief in America. ... He expressed that we are the same and that everyone deserves the glorious freedom as he says in his speech. President Obama is addressing all of american people that voted for and against him,by continuously referring to them as a team.He wants them to keep in mind he plans to work with them on several issues rather than stick to his own opinions. Frank (2009) examines three characteristics in Obama's inauguration speech– mythic, literary, and rhetoric– to explicates how the president fit these signatures into resurrection of a cosmopolitan expression of American Civil Religion. He surmises Obama sets out to create a multi–religious and racial American culture; this deviates from conventional westernized philosophy, which espouses that propositions cannot be simultaneously true and differences never coincide. Rhetoric, in contrary, deals with soft oppositions and is debatable, offering leeway for identities to reconcile. Myths have explanatory power to highlight values and trigger listeners into action. Hence, Frank should have made clear Obama's vision that forms the basis of his signatures instead of policies. Furthermore, I suppose there are two critical ideas behind Obama's encouragement of a cosmopolitan civil religion that Frank should explicate. First, the address's theme can be succinctly expressed as harnessing strength from America's common history. Beyond simply an advocacy for unity, Obama has the intention to motivate a collective call–to–action in response to the detrimental 2008 Global Financial Crisis (Allen and Carletti, 2009), and to preserve social stability by mitigating prevailing distrust against Muslims due to September 11 attacks (Mcmorris, 2010). Calling for unity is in fact a springboard to motivate a collective call–to–action. Obama mentions, "we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task". Next, bringing citizens together has a role at the inaugural ceremony itself. As Campbell argues, "Once the audience has been united, it can perform its role in the inaugural ceremony. Rhetorical Analysis Of Success Is Counted Sweetest Rhetorical Analysis Abraham Lincoln's "Second Inaugural Address" and Emily Dickinson's "Success is Counted Sweet," are two inspirational pieces of art that fall under two different types of discourses. The "Second Inaugural Address," is a great example and definition of what Rhetoric is. It encompasses all four resources of languages– argument, appeal, arrangement, and artistic devices. "Success is Counted Sweet," doesn't cover the four resources of language that apply to rhetoric; therefore, it is categorized as a poem. Lincoln also maintains an optimistic tone throughout the speech and invokes unity with his parallel structured sentences. Emily Dickinson's "Success is Counted Sweetest," doesn't cover all four resources of language. It is a poem that does not call for action but does create an emotional appeal for the people. Throughout her poem, she created an emotional appeal for success and its value and the desire and want for success. We see how she creates such emotion when she states, "The distant strains of triumph break, agonizing and clear." What Dickinson means by this is that gaining success can be the most beautiful accomplishment but at the same time, agonizing to reach. This creates an emotional appeal for those who are living through the Civil War, making the people have a desire for peace, but they have to go through bloodshed in the process of gaining success. Emily Dickinson carries out artistic devices throughout her poem, which also creates an emotional appeal for the audience. • 45. Rhetorical Analysis Of Jfk Inaugural Address JFK's Inaugural Address: A Rhetorical Analysis A president's inaugural address is perhaps one of the most defining aspects of their entire career due to the inclusion of carefully woven emotional appeals and blandishments that encourage the citizens to become more politically active. The enticing nature of these empty promises infiltrates virtually every American's mind, signifying a beginning to a promising era that results in feelings of patriotic optimism. The charismatic and youthful president John F. Kennedy successfully assuaged the nation's anxiety and utilized his powerful platform to promote worldwide cooperation and unity that could uplift America. Through the use of his firm yet optimistic tone, Kennedy conveys the importance of compromise in a world where malignance remains prevalent and utter obliteration is potentially seconds away. In the introduction of his speech, JFK acknowledges the changing times by juxtaposing current events with those of the simpler past. This man was inaugurated in the midst of the Cold War, one of the most significant conflicts in American history that was successful in generating fear amongst the masses due to the looming possibility of worldwide destruction (Zubok). As America's vulnerability was exposed, the people were in desperate need of a reliable leader who could reintegrate hope into their daily lives; this was easily achieved through their exposure to the president's truthfully optimistic tone. Kennedy does not remain oblivious to the issues that have dictated foreign relations for years, acknowledging the fact that, "... man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life" (Kennedy). This personal integration of a reflective and solemn tone that is further exemplified through emotionally charged diction is successful in establishing the foundation of his speech, for it informs the nation of the impending threats. However, he counteracts the negativity by conveying to the people that his tactical approach will focus on the "survival and success of liberty" (Kennedy). Kennedy's Inauguration Speech On a cold January day America's newly appointed president John F. Kennedy delivered his inauguration address that was incredibly important to America's success during the Cold War. Kennedy uses his speech as a call to arms, but not only to America but the World and our allies as a whole. He uses his strong powerful voice to appeal to the ethics of the country in the beginning of his speech telling America about the promise we made when we were founded and that we must uphold it still today, telling America we must make a difference. Kennedy also uses ethics to explain that we the people are united no matter what your background or where you are from, he refers to the Americas as one place, because he wants for us to feel unified not divided. Furthermore Kennedy's use of powerful imagery, logic and pathos allows for him to effectively call the people of the World together during this terrible time. With the threat that the Cold War brought to America Kennedy's use of Ethos incredibly helps him to thoroughly get his point across to the rest of the World that they must band together. His use of ethos is primarily found in the beginning of his speech where he reminds America that "we are heirs of that first revolution" and that now we are "proud of our ancient heritage–– and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to ... Kennedy once stated, "And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you– ask what you can do for your country." In Kennedy's Inaugural Address and Inside Kennedy's Inauguration, 50 Years On by Eleanor Clift, both passages used rhetorical devices. Kennedy utilized many metaphors to help get his point across in an exaggerated way that would stick in the Americans minds. In his speech, he stated, "Those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside." The same goes for his use of repetition because the more he repeats himself the easier it is for people to follow and remember what he is saying. Words like "To" and "Let both sides" were used multiple times. Imagery was applied by Clift to help people visualize what the eve and day of Kennedy's inauguration felt and looked like. • 65. Jfk Inaugural Speech Essay The inaugurations of presidents have always been momentous events in American history. These include the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. Many Americans remember this day as the beginning of Kennedy's legacy, one that revolved around uniting the people of the United States of America to work towards a positive future, as well as uniting the countries of the world. Kennedy's inaugural address and a photograph, credited to the United States Army Signal Corps, of Chief Justice Earl Warren administering the Oath of Office to Kennedy uncover and emphasize how unity among Americans was a vital aspect of his legacy as President. Eleanor Clift, an American political reporter, shows in her article, "Inside Kennedy's Inauguration, 50 Years On," how memorable Kennedy's inauguration is for Americans, and how memorable Kennedy himself is as President. Kennedy's inaugural address reveals his legacy by expressing his goal of unifying Americans using antithesis and syntax to contrast selfishness with selflessness, emphasizing that Americans should be working towards selflessness and unification. The photograph of Kennedy taking the oath of office mirrors his legacy of unifying the country and the virtue of selflessness with its wide range, capturing not only Kennedy, but the people around him as well. In his address, Kennedy speaks of how opposing sides in any fight should work together towards a common goal, rather than fight each other and never be able to achieve their goals. ... • 67. Rhetorical Analysis of President Obama's Inauguration Speech On January 20, 2009, President Obama was officially inaugurated and sworn in as the forty–fourth president of the United States of America. The tradition of being inaugurated requires the president to give a speech about the goals they want to reach during their presidency. The president must make a speech that appeals to the audience while being professional. Rhetoric is a useful strategy to utilize in speech making. Obama uses rhetoric to achieve presenting his message of creating hope and change together in America while fixing the economic and social challenges and issues left behind from the previous president. Barack Obama uses syntax, the rhetorical triangle, and diction to portray his message. One prominent rhetorical syntax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obama's use of parallelism brings the speech together and implies a sense of power and instruction. A second rhetorical syntax strategy used by Obama is his use of phrases similar to "not only, but also". Obama uses this strategy to show that there is more than one outcome to each of his propositions. One example is when he says "...not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth" (Barack Obama's Inaugural Address 2). Barack Obama is telling the audience that we need to take multiple steps in order to grow as a nation. When Obama says "The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but on the reach of our prosperity", he is again showing how more than one cause is and will be responsible for an outcome (Barack Obama's Inaugural Address 2). When Obama tells the nation about these causes and effects, the audience is given direct orders to try and make the causes possible. Obama also uses the strategy of allusions. At the very end of Obama's speech, he alludes to a quotation from the father of our nation, George Washington. The quotation talks about how "that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive... that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it]" (Barack Obama's Inaugural Address 4). The quotation means that no matter how tough times are, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the reason why the tenor of Kennedy's speech is focused on world unity against tyranny while the speech of Obama is geared more on economic progress within the country. The presentation of both inaugural addresses is very important and connected with each other well. This argument is more related in the first except that this is more detailed. It is undeniable that Obama is more eloquent compared to Kennedy that is why he received more applause from the audience (It seems like it after every word). However, it can be gleaned in the way Kennedy presented his speech that he is more relaxed compared to Obama, perhaps, because the latter is facing more burden in saving the national debt, which the former do not have to consider as top priority. At the time when Kennedy delivered his speech, he is confident that the country is wealthy and even offered to help or assist those countries that are poor if permitted. Aside from that, the eloquence of Obama was given more meaning when the listeners who are present during the inauguration applauded him more; knowing that majority of the people believed that the residing President will surely save the country from ... • 73. Inauguration Day Analysis Before the class, I had a few expectations, but overall didn't really know what to expect. I never could have imagined all the amazing things we would see and how much I would learn. I have been to Washington D.C. before but those two trips do not even compare to this one. We had opportunities that politics students at other schools only dream of. At one of my favorite site visits, the United States Department of Agriculture, Lanon Baccam and other staff mentioned that the USDA is often an afterthought. And before our visit, that is exactly what I thought of it. I thought the USDA handled farming and not much else, but I was very wrong. It was fascinating to discover how intertwined agriculture is with the rest of the government. I now know ... I can't count the number of times my classmates asked Drake grads, "how will the new administration affect your job?" and we always got the same answer, "I don't know." It was surprising to me that even professionals who work in the heart of government don't know what to expect. I knew I had heard it on the news repeatedly, but I guess I just didn't believe it. Immediately after Mr. Trump won the election I sent an email to my local state representative, Mr. Ted Yoho, regarding acquiring tickets to the inauguration. Tickets can be acquired to the inauguration by inquiring to your state representative or senator. Tickets allow the attendee to have a closer viewing area for the inauguration that is closed to the public. Between the 100 senators and 435 state representatives there are 250,000 tickets distributed. Celebrities, including Willie Robertson and his family, go to view the event along with small town Americans from every corner of the country. As you wait for the historic ceremony to begin you interact and get to know the likeminded people around you and discuss how you got to the inauguration. As you stand there waiting for your new president, you feel a sense of unity that you can experience nowhere else. The patriotism of the American people at the center of the ceremony can be felt throughout the air and can be felt pulsing through your veins. The performances by the different military bands and choirs were spectacular and awe inspiring. The swearing in of Vice President Pence was enthusiastic but was no comparison to President Trump. There were religious leaders including Rev. Franklin Graham that spoke, prayed, and called for unity. Once President Trump completed his oath and said "so help me God" the crowds busted out in excitement as military artillery cannons were shot to celebrate the new commander in chief. As you hear the artillery shots fired you appreciate our military and feel as Lee Greenwood sang on Thursday night at the "Make America Great Again Celebration", "I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free and I won't forget the men who died and gave that right to me." • 77. Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address The inaugural address and the other documents have parts in common. As the tone and style all were written. They all are based around John F. Kennedy and the way he was portrayed in this nation. The documents that were used were his inauguration address,Inside Kennedy's Inauguration and a photo of JFK Inauguration. The documents and photos all concluded that JFK was seen as a great president and only wanted to move the country forward to the future. The first document JFK talks about on how he will move the country forward with him in place. The document included a lot of style and rhetorical devices. For example he used Anastrophe when he said "This much we pledge, and more" to emphasise his contribution with everyone else. John F. Kennedy was seen a president for the people and they appraised him for it. He uses lots of rhetorical devices to his message across. It makes him sound like a true president for the people as in he wants to help out the community rather than just to do business. One of the other examples in this document was when he states "and to remember that, in the past, those who foolishly sought power by riding the back of the tiger ended up inside." was used as a metaphor. This example showed John F. Kennedy feelings to those who choose to side with a communist way of ruling a country. When he says this it's very clear what side he is on. Aswell he uses it as a way to inform people that communist countries aren't the way to go and there very dangerous. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
