Essay on Failed Relationships
We live our lives waiting for who we think is the perfect person, but in reality that never happens.
When we hear the word relationship, we think of a man and a woman. Being in a relationship is
more than just being intimate. There are different kinds of relationship such as husbands and wives,
parent and child, or just friend to friend. Some people say it takes two people to make a relationship
fail. When two people meet, they usually know from the begining if they want to be with that person
or if they want to pursue a relationship.
When a relationship fails, it is because one or both parties involved gives up. Giving up on a
relationship is always hard because it means someone's feelings are going to be ... Show more

Some people cheat with the hope of never being caught. Another reason why relationships fail are
because of children, some people having children will help in reality it only makes worse. On the
other hand, if a person may bring their child or children into the relationship, and the child and the
other partner does not get along that usually cause a big problem.
Communication is the number one key to a good relationship. When there is no communication
between both parties involved in the relationship, that is when the relationship fails whether it is a
man and a woman, or a child trying to divorce his/her parents or friends cutting their ties forever.
When couples realize their relationship is starting to fail, they will try different things such as
marriage counseling. That is when the couple will sit down with a therapist and they will try to work
their problems out. Sometimes therapy can help the couples work their issues out and get to the root
of their problems. Another solution is a vacation or a second honeymoon where they can reconcile
or rekindle the relationship that they use to have. Or even as far as moving away to get a new start
on life, to try to get away from the old way of how things use to be and try to start a new life
together again.
In a relationship, we have to know what we can, and cannot live without. Being in a relationship
means nothing, no one is perfect and in a relationship, there

He adds to this by introducing the concepts of rational and irrational authority, explaining that
rational authority would be equivalent to that of a teacher and student whereby there is mutual
benefit, while irrational authority would be identified by the likes of a slave and his owner who
demonstrates complete disregard of the slave's happiness or well–being, his only interest being how
the slave will benefit him. Through a veil of lies man obeys the State, the Church, the mass opinions
of their peers, or any other organization that they view to be in power. This affords him a false sense
of safety and protection. In his obedience, man feels strong allowing him to be controlled by the fear
of being isolated or having undesirable repercussions greet him as a result of any disobedience.
Throughout history it has been evident that, for the most part, the few in power have ruled over the
majority. The foundation of this relationship has been "the few" equating obedience with virtue and
disobedience with sin, resulting in man not only needing to obey, but wanting to obey. Man's

Child X Strengths
As previously mentioned, there are some strengths and weaknesses that child X exhibits. In terms of
strengths, he is incredibly talented when it comes to the arts. Child X has been in quite a few plays
during our time together at camp. This included having lead roles in Mama Mia, Greece, Little Shop
of Horrors, and much more. During these plays, he memorized his lines and dance moves better than
most of the kids, and preformed with a smile on his face. As well, he is very talented when it comes
to visual arts. He is a great artist, can follow instructions well, and always put 110% into the art
pieces he makes. Child X is also very compassionate, and interacts well with the farm animals. The
farm staff love when he visits, as they know they have a good helper ... Show more content on

He will get frustrated, upset, and start to physically hurt himself and others. Child X struggles when
it comes to athletics. Although in his mind he wants to participate and do well in sports, his motor
skills are not that strong. He struggles when it comes to running, kicking soccer balls, throwing
basketballs, and more. Once he gets frustrated playing these sports, it takes quite some time to get
him back into a positive mindset. Interesting enough though, child X is a fantastic swimmer. Child
X also struggles when it comes to making friends. He gets anxious around other campers, and it
takes some time for him to get comfortable with his peers. He would often rely on spending the day
with me, however our main goal was to integrate him with the cabin, and due to his social anxiety,
this became an issue. Finally, the hardest aspect of child X's personality is that he is aware that he is
different. One day, child X said to me: "I hate G–D". I proceeding to ask him why, and he stated:
"because he gave me autism." It broke my heart to know that child X was aware that this

Analysis Of Nicholas Kristof 's Lecture On September 14th,...
During Nicholas Kristof's lecture on September 14th, 2015 evening, he talked about the problems of
the world and what are some ways that we can overcome them with innovation. He started with
some personal experience of traveling around the world with his family and used that to lead into his
topic of human trafficking. It pointed out that it is very prevalent in other countries, but also here in
the US. He promoted fixing our country before we start telling other countries what to do. He then
brought up his family "pet" which was his Father's Day present. He got a trained rat in his name that
helped him explain the new innovations to old problems. He explained that the technology and the
researched knowledge is massive and using that knowledge is crucial to change the world. Later,
Kristof explained the idea of prevention before need. He backed this motto up by presenting the
ideas of deworming children to increase school attendance, girls getting sex education knowledge
and using contraceptives, and early childhood education. All these had the push to do something
before it is a problem and how being proactive saves the public money. He has these ideas to help
those who are too poor to live and cannot afford the advantages of certain luxuries. Kristof ended
the lecture in promoting change and fighting for a cause. He mentioned to volunteer and take action
no matter how old or young a person may be and focus on a cause that means something personal to
the individual so that

Psychological Approach To The Drinking Problem Essay
Many people use drinking for different outcomes. Some drink for entertainment and fun with
friends, and others use it as a way of escape or to deal with emotions. Mel's drinking problem isn't
uncommon especially since he started so young. When you view the effects, drinking has had on his
life and from different psychological approaches it could help with providing the tools needed to get
to the root of the problem. Mel's issue could be viewed from biological, sociocultural and
psychoanalytic approaches.
For starters, Mel started drinking at 12 and hasn't stopped since. The effects that drinking has on the
body is worse for children especially since they're not yet fully developed. The biological approach
to psychology would be able to examine just how the effect of drinking may have on the nervous
system. For example, because of one's adolescent drinking they may develop lasting health effects
like impairments in brain functions such as memory, coordination and motor skills. In Mel's case, he
might struggle to remember to complete assignments at work due to damage he has inflicted on his
own nervous system. Drinking alcohol not only effects your bodily functions but your personality
and other aspects of your life.
One aspect that drinking can affect you would be your social life which could result in strained
relationships. The influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This approach puts stress on the influence of fears, desires, and motivations one may have but aren't
aware. Due to Mel's poor attendance at work one may say he lacks motivation. There are emotions
he may have but aren't aware of that may motivate his drinking. Another aspect of life that the
psychoanalytical approach is based on is childhood experiences. Drinking is often used as a coping
mechanism and because Mel has been drinking since he was a child this may be the way he deals
with his feelings. He may not know another way of

Erich Fromm's Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral...
Erich Fromm's Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem In "Disobedience as a
Psychological and Moral Problem," Erich Fromm (1963) argues that society will self–destruct
without achieving freedom through disobedience. Fromm begins with analogies of Hebrew and
Greek mythology showing how disobedience to a god freed humans. Using this correlation, Fromm
shows freedom as a condition for disobedience, and vice– versa. Therefore, Fromm proclaims that
without disobedience the human race could destroy itself within a generation. Fromm's article, first
published in 1963, stems from fear of a third world war. Despite the "outdated" comment by
Behrens and Rosen in the introduction, the article still applies to suggestion human ... Show more

Fromm relates this to the fetus in the womb and to cutting the umbilical cord to become fully
human. In both situations, Fromm believes the disobedience in both situation results in freedom.
The Adam and Eve analogy holds true only to creationists, not to evolutionists. Atheists, agnostics,
and other religions simply reject the Garden of Eden story. For these people, the process of
becoming "fully human" resulted in evolution over thousands of years. However, if the analogy is
true for the fetus, one must assume the mother demands the baby to stay in the womb, not to enter
the new world. Yet the purpose of procreation is to bring a new child into this world. Birth is a
natural process, not a medical procedure, thus cannot be forever prolonged (Childbirth.org). How
often is it mothers are disappointed pregnancy did not last longer? Most mothers become ecstatic
when pregnancy is over and she can enjoy God's creation. Fromm (1963) uses the analogy in his
essay to suggest the baby disobeys God. However, once conception occurs, the mother has only one
choice under God's law– giving birth. A few examples of God's will are in 1 Timothy 2:15, "women
will be saved through childbearing," and how Exodus 21:22–23 mentions morally wrong abortion.
With thousands of biblical examples, it should be hard for a religious scholar to suggest a baby
disobeys God's will by leaving its mothers womb. Disobeying God can

Jason Conan Case Study Essay
Jason Vaughan Jason Vaughan is a 20–year–old college sophomore. Jason presents with feelings of
his thoughts not being his own or his mind being blank. He admits that he feels like a "disconnected
robot" and feels detached from his own body, stating that sometimes he cannot tell if he is alive or
dead. He experiences feelings of having "no self" and due to this, he is constantly afraid. This is
impacting his social life and his grades. These symptoms appear to begin after a month long period
of depression over a break up with his girlfriend. Jason has a history of panic attacks and feelings of
detachment, which occurred around the same time that his mother was hospitalized for her own
psychiatric problems. These same symptoms occurred surrounding his parents' divorce and the
leaving of his father. His mother is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Phase 1 Stabilization. Following phase one of the case conceptualization model, we would need to

The Psychological Problem Of Death And Dying
During the all eras of human existence, doctors, thinkers, writers, artists, all of humanity as a whole

man's relation to death continues being the source of fair in modern society too, and people prefer

Psychological Problems And Development Of Childhood...
Introduction The developmental psychopathology approach is the study of psychological problems
and complexities in human development. It focuses on the atypical development of childhood
through to adult life. According to Sroufe and Rutter (1984) it focuses on individual patterns of
adaptation and maladaptation throughout development. This approach is designed to prevent
behavioural and emotional differences within development, whilst positively reinforcing the idea of
typical development. Cases of atypical development can include ADHD, eating disorders, anxiety
and many other developmental disorders that differ from the developmental population norm.
According to Ciccheti (1984) developmental psychopathology must "draw upon the results of many
different areas of research: in particular, general developmental psychology, traditional academic
psychology, and also the clinical sciences of psychiatry and clinical psychology" (p.1) This implies
that to find the link between typical and atypical behaviour, researchers must draw upon the social,
biological and psychological aspects of a persons life. Cummings et al (2003) believed that
"developmental psychopathology is best defined by its primary goal; achieving a science that could
unravel the dynamic process relations underlying pathways of normal development and the
development of psychopathology" (p.17) From this it is assumed that this approach aims to expand
the knowledge of developmental disorders that affect the typical

The Psychological Problems Of A Society
Empathy helps a person to understand the other, and in that way, the bond between the two gets
stronger. "never do what you don't want to happen to you or a loved one" is a famous phrase that
parents tell their children, so they can develop empathy from the early age. This is not the case in
many crimes. Besides financial problems, the psychological problems are the ones that finish the
work of the crime–to destroy the victims' life. Realistically speaking, not all crimes' intent is that;
however, once a person's confidence of his own safety is destroyed, second thoughts of fears and
remembering the scene become more lethal that the crime's outcome itself. When this occurs, people
empathizes with the victim, especially because people worries that the same crime would happen to
them, and it's a normal reaction. The role of a society is to keep all the members of the group alive
by mutual help, and to keep the weak protected from the power of the strong–in other words, to
avoid the appearance of predators and victims. A crime threats this social trust people have to each
other. In literature, the existence of utopias shows that the society's main role can be achieved, at the
cost of people's freedom. Deterrence theory tells that a person is a rational actor of free will (qtd.
Pratt, 2011). When a person's free will is taken away, an authority institution can avoid this will be
corrupted by random factors. For example, in "From the New World" by Yusuke Kishi, people

Disadvantages Of Technology Research Paper
Children are being exposed to technology today more than they are being exposed 50 years ago.
Children were only watching television, before computers and internet arrive, but now children are
exposed to technological devices more than before because they have unlimited access to their
computers and their smartphones. Easy access to these devices brings risks and disadvantages for
the children, such as laziness, absent of physical activities, social and psychological problems,
biological problems and focusing problems. Children should be followed more closely to prevent
the disadvantages of technology. Laziness is one of the major disadvantages of improving
technology because laziness causes many problems for the kids such as obesity. Hampton says that
laziness create obesity for the children she exemplifies this statement with the statistics from the

long as you only evaluate similarities and differences. It's also productive if you're inspired to

`` Disobedience `` By Theodore Dalrymple And Erich Fromm :...
The Nuremburg Trials of 1945 were some of the most controversial military tribunals to be held in
the 20th century. In the trials, Nazi war criminals were put on trial for the atrocities they committed
against the Jewish population of Germany. When asked why they had committed such acts of horror,
many of the Nazi soldiers attested by saying that they were under orders to do so. The trials
questioned the motives behind instances of mass human torment which have led many scientists and
psychologists to strive to understand the rationality behind human obedience. Two of these
psychologists, Theodore Dalrymple and Erich Fromm explored the instances in which disobedience

Dalrymple mentions that while his orders to prolong the lives of dying patients went against his
morals, he felt obligated to follow the commands of his physician due to her greater amount of
experience; however, Dalrymple also states that it is oftentimes necessary for a subordinate to
determine when they should disobey an authority. Not only can blind obedience lead to negative
consequences in a society, but blind disobedience can have similar adverse effects. Some of the
negatives of blind disobedience include individuals who cannot listen to other individuals and
properly perform their jobs. Additionally, people who cannot obey authority in their lives find it
very difficult to have human interactions as they live their whole lives only listening to themselves.
These individuals live life as though it is a power struggle. Though the Milgram experiment pins
obedience as being a negative attribute for an individual to express, Dalrymple states that neither
total obedience nor total disobedience are beneficial to society. Fromm initiates his article by
addressing the commonly held belief that obedience is a virtue and disobedience is a vice. Fromm
mentions that this is not the case, as "human history began with an act of disobedience, and it is not
unlikely that it will be terminated by an act of obedience"(Fromm 227). Man began human history
through Adam and Eve eating the apple in the garden of Eden. Additionally, Prometheus stealing

following training proposal which will include common problems that occur when managers
complete performance reviews and suggestions for supervisors on how to eliminate or reduce these

The common problems I have identified when conducting my research for this training are as
follows:
Ø The "halo effect" which as the name implies causes supervisors to only see the "angel" in an

Ø The "mirroring effect" is when supervisors favor employees that remind them of themselves and
have difficulty assessing and valuing the differences others bring to the workplace. (San Joaquin

The following solutions are what I am proposing to eliminate or reduce these problems:
Ø On the "halo effect," produce continuous documentation over the duration of the evaluation,
which will assist supervisors in writing the employee's evaluation.
Ø On "comparing employees," write their evaluations at different times, which will give the
supervisor time to center on one employee at a time.
Ø For the "central tendency effect," supervisors need to identify problem areas with identifiable
solutions and the leadership to resolve these problem areas. By providing information that is
constructive, the supervisor is helping the person become an improved person.
Ø On the "pitchfork effect," supervisors need to remember that they are evaluating the employee for
the entire time frame indicated on the evaluation. Constant records of performance, helps the
supervisor stay away from focusing on a particular event.
Ø For the "labeling effect," supervisors need to be aware of their insights and preconceived

Analysis Of Disobedience As A Psychological And Moral...
The "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" was written by Erich Fromm. The author
was a writer in the twentieth century. He did various things and had various jobs. The author talks
about the effects of obedience and disobedience. He explains that the world we live in today will be
destroyed through disobedience. Fromm uses mythological and religious figures to explain how this
theory makes sense. Fromm argues that society goes on without accomplishing freedom through
disobedience. Some forms of disobedience are acceptable, but others may be too harsh and
unnecessary. Fromm strongly believes that humans should be disobedient and if not they will not be
successful in life. The first thing that he talks about is Adam and Eve and how they disobeyed an
order, which was when they ate from the forbidden tree. The consequence of disobeying a request
made the ties with Earth tear and their eyes to open. Adam and Eve never again observed each other
as equivalents, they took a gander at each different as outsiders and additionally their general
surroundings. Fromm states that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

what is human and inhuman and what is beneficial to life and what destroys or harms life. This is
the one that helps us function as humans. The authoritarian conscience is what individual people tell
when wanting to make people happy. Fromm referenced Freud in the essay stating that he looked at
this type of conscience as "Superego" which represents the internal commands and prohibitions of
father, and it is accepted by the son out of fear. Fromm incorporates many different philosophies,

I Still Love You
Between love triangles, viral videos, and Peter Kavinsky; Laura Jean really had a lot of growing up
to do during the 2nd book in the To All the Boys I have Loved Before duology by Jenny Han. In this
book, P.S I Still Love You, Laura Jean and Peter finally date after a long time of being a fake couple
to make their exes Genevieve and Josh jealous. Although, some people have a lot to say about how
they feel about this novel. I have to disagree with most of the thoughts of reviewer, Book Bruin's

Book Bruin's review has a more positive look on the Young Adult Romance genre of books.

was very sudden. Compared to the rest of the book, which was gave me a good sense of why, I
didn't understand this part. Now the statement goes on to saying that Book Bruin was not happy
with the outcome, Lara Jean and Peter getting back together. Instead, they wanted her to choose
Mclaren. However, I think that the readers don't even know enough about him, only that he received
one of the love–letters Lara Jean wrote years ago by accident. Honestly he isn't memorable enough
of a character to be able to give the readers the same sense of connection that Peter gives. It wouldn't
have made any sense if she chose Mclaren in the end. Overall, there were some aspects of Book
Bruin's review that I agreed with. However, some of the statements and opinions made were more a
matter of taste and personal preference. P.S I Still Love You by Jenny Han is a story full of real–life
problems about being a teenager. It includes important problems and a strong theme of trust

Comparing Erich Fromm's Disobedience As A Psychological...
Erich Fromm wrote "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem," in 1963, an essay
detailing balance between obedience and disobedience.
Fromm cited that authority figures insisted obedience as a virtue and disobedience as a vice. He
argued that disobedience began human history itself and necessary to continue it. Fromm first
discussed a Biblical example: the story of Adam and Eve. Humans were in harmony with nature, yet
still in their infancy. Prophets argued it is through man's "sin" can reason and love developed, and
men become human. Only through disobedience were they able to grow into individuals and
independence. Fromm drew onto the Greek myth of Prometheus as another source of evolution
through disobedience. Prometheus' theft of fire from the gods laid down the foundations for
civilization. Both examples have mankind's history begin with disobedience. The capacity of
disobedience allows humans to evolve.
Fromm argues that if disobedience began history, then obedience will end it. While humankind's
capability is great, it outpaces rational and humanistic ideals. Destruction will come through
obeying amoral thoughts; commands from higher authority and "archaic passions of fear, hate, and
greed" (p. 684, 11th ed.). Fromm clarifies that obedience or disobedience is not a single value
system. The principles that guide in obedience or disobedience may be either good or bad. If an
individual is completely obedient, then they are a slave; if they are completely

Psychological Problems Caused By Negative Thinking
1– INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background
A large number of psychological problems can be caused by negative thinking. Very often people
create their own stress through negative thinking and there are times that small stresses are made
into major ones by negative thoughts. Negative thinking can be triggered by almost any type of
circumstance and is usually involved in depression, anxiety, anger, and relationship problems
(Beckham, 2004)
They are unwanted and involuntary thoughts that come to our mind and most people experience
them at times (Rachmant and Desilva, 1978). They can drain your energy and people in general find
them very stressful. Thought suppression is the most common reaction to negative thoughts.
It is when an individual tries to suppress thinking about a particular subject in order to avoid doing
it. Thoughts give rise to emotions, and when the emotions are undesirable, it is human nature to tend
to suppress the thoughts that provoke such emotions or reactions (Wenzlaff & Wegner, 2000).
Several studies have suggested that trying to put a thought or emotion out of mind while we're
stressed can have ironic effects meaning it can come back stronger. Daniel Wegner, a Canadian
psychologist, studied the ironic effects of thoughts suppression in a lab setting in 1987. He
conducted a simple experiment known as the White Bear Theory and divided participants into 2
groups, suppression and expression.
Half of participants were asked not to think about a white bear for 5

Oftentimes, the person is unable to know if she or he already has it and some also don't know that

Child Abuse Causes Physical And Psychological Problems...
Child abuse such as physical, sexual, emotional, and neglect, also considerate as a silent epidemic, is
one of the common issues in our society. In the United States, more than 200,000 children have been
killed because of abuse by their family members over the past 10 years. Every year the number of
children reported as victims of abuse or neglect increased excessively (Petit.) Child abuse can be an
intentional or unintentional maltreatment, violation, and exploitation of a child by a person who a
child knows well. Most of the time it is caused by parents, family members, and educators at home,
school, or a different place where a child is defenseless. Child abuse causes physical and
psychological problems within the child. Therefore, both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Also, it is a deliberate action on the part of the parents or adult against a child. Emotional abuse can
be divided into five different categories rejecting, which consists of refusing to accept a child,
terrorizing, which is the process of making a child terrorized, ignoring, which is refusing to take
notice of a child, insulating, which consists of making a child stay alone, and Corrupting, which can
lead to providing drugs and alcohol to a child (Garbario.) Neglect which is practiced mostly by
parents has physical and psychological signs. Neglect is the process of not providing the child with
the basic needs such as food, water, clothes, and so on. Neglect can be divided into medical, which
is the process of not providing a child medical attention, safety, which is the process of not
protecting a child in any situation, educational, which is the process of not letting the child go to
school, and physical, which is the process of not providing a child the appropriate alimentation
(Schmitt.) Over many years, child abuse has been changing tremendously, and one of the worst
records in the world belongs to the United States. According to the 2015 Child Maltreatment Report
every day five children die because of abuse. Children who received protection because of abuse has

concept standing between freedom and the end of human history. Fromm's article was published
during the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States. Tension from the possibility
of the end of the world due to the likelihood of a nuclear war between the two countries was at an
all–time high. Fromm starts off with his negative view of certain types of obedience and his view

Next is an example of Aubrey where she avoided other girls in the group because of conflict over

clear concepts of communication that are depicted in this film. By observing these types of

like facial expressions that do not match the verbal message someone is conveying. I've noticed the
way groups learn how to work together and come to a good compromise and accommodate with one
another to accomplish a common goal. In addition to these, attempting to spot deception was a little
more difficult to do with this film starting out. Deception is very accurately portrayed in Pitch

could be very deceiving to other individuals. In order to see deceptive cues, you have to notice these
changes in tone in the voice, and the expressions one's face makes when they are communicating.

According to Freud, Jane is clearly hallucinating when she says that the lines on the wallpaper

There is evidence that personal beliefs influence the efficacy of common psychological problems'
cures. Personal perception and will power over common problems like depression, sexual
dysfunction, smoking, insomnia, and gambling among others is believed necessary in the ability of
an individual to overcome these problems. This social psychology approach is investigated and
discussed widely in social psychology studies like that of Furnham, Hosoe, Koyasu, & Ota (2000).
This belief is the result of everyday parlance that describes and associated clinical terms everyday

"depression" are defined in terms like sadness, fear, or anger. When ordinary ideas are used instead
of clinical psychiatric terms, confusion in definition, measurement, and treatment arises. This

loneliness. It also explores the cognitive processes associated with the behavior, social–
psychological approaches, and social relationships that support the wellbeing for persons indicating
the behavior problems.

Disobedience As A Psychological And Moral Problem By Erich...
Why someone may cause harm to themselves by eating too much food or starve themselves is
different in any case throughout society, but the real question is why someone would follow through
with the voice telling them to do it. In the article "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral
Problem" author Erich Fromm would say that the reason a person would ever inflict this kind of
pain upon oneself is because of their humanistic conscience. Fromm says that the humanistic
conscience is "the ability to be and to judge oneself" (126). So if someone does not like their
appearance then they will listen to their conscience that is telling them that they are not good
enough, and physically hurt themselves to the point where it has become life threatening. Fromm
would also say that disobedience has a negative reputation. Fromm says "...history obedience has
been identified with virtue and disobedience with sin" (127). Throughout history, disobedience has
been seen as a wrong thing to do, so people have been obedient to things that they should not be. So
when someone's conscience tells them to eat another slice of pizza to make them happy and take
their mind off the bad things, then they listen because they believe it is the right thing to do, which it
is not. Fromm explains how someone can overcome this voice is to just say no, which is a hard thing
to do. He states "A person can become free through acts of disobedience by learning to say no to
power"(127). Learning to say no is

The fact that you love someone enough to take on the role of caregiver is a sign of respect, but you

humanity could easily be ended by an act of blind obedience. He follows this with stating that there

Fromm then adds the example of Prometheus and how there would be no human history if it were
not for Prometheus' crime. One of Fromm's main points in the essay is that man will probably

This makes the article valuable to the reader as it is a credible source of ideas and information. I

enlightened to have suicidal feelings. According to the article, "Research on suicide overlooks
young children" , written by a psychologist who researched factors that lead to suicidal thoughts, "...
[C]hildren and adolescents with suicidal behaviors seem to be driven more by circumstantial factors,
such as family discord, social failure, or bullying, experts say" (Weir). Holden frequently faces
bullying during adolescence including when he was younger and when Maurice smacked him and
that may lead to him having suicidal thoughts. Holden also has problems with social failure and
communication with people so that may also lead to him having these negative thoughts entering his
mind. These feelings can really harm Holden and cause him to have a short life if he acts upon these
feelings. Furthermore, when Holden was walking to the Wicker Bar to meet Carl Luce, he started to
think about the war movie and how he couldn't stand going to war. Holden explains how he would
find war really disturbing especially if he had to march with Ackley, Stradlater, and Maurice in the
army and he would not be able to handle it. Holden even goes as far as to say if there's another war
he will sit in front of the firing squad without objecting and he would sit right on top of the atomic
bomb. It is evident that Holden has feelings of suicide and he gets depressed whenever he's around
people he does not like. The fact that he is willing to kill himself just not to deal with a few
annoying and cruel people in his life shows how

Comparing Erich Fromm's Disobedience As A Psychological...
When training a dog, the master's goal is to have to have the dog fulfill the commands given, and
when obedient the dog is rewarded. However, when the dog is disobedient and does not obey the
commands the dog is not rewarded. Fromm's article analyses how people are obedient and
disobedient, just like the dog. In "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem," Erich
Fromm, a psychoanalyst, philosopher, historian and sociologist, claims that social antiquity began
with an act of disobedience and possibly will end with an act of obedience. Fromm studies the
difference between obedience and disobedience. Fromm makes efforts to support his claim but
never made valid points with worthy reasoning. In the beginning of Fromm's article he pushes ...

He explains that master of the slave's master is trying to get the most out of the slave and to better
himself, not the slave. Fromm connects this with irrational authority by stating "the interest of [the]
slave and master are antagonistic because what is advantageous to one is detrimental to the other"
(126). He does not consider that all slave owners are trying to abuse the slave. Fromm assumes that
all slaves are getting damaged, but does not consider that not all slaves are the same. Unlike the
slave, teachers and students are working to one common goal, but if the student fails it is neither the
teachers fault nor the students. Fromm does not consider that the teacher might punish the student
like the slave mentioned. Also, he assumes that the teacher and student are working towards on
common goal, when that could just be the teacher's goal. Fromm does not support his idea of
irrational and rational authority with valid points to back up his statement. He also uses two different
examples that do not explain the two terms

Essay On Failed Relationships

  • 1. Essay on Failed Relationships We live our lives waiting for who we think is the perfect person, but in reality that never happens. When we hear the word relationship, we think of a man and a woman. Being in a relationship is more than just being intimate. There are different kinds of relationship such as husbands and wives, parent and child, or just friend to friend. Some people say it takes two people to make a relationship fail. When two people meet, they usually know from the begining if they want to be with that person or if they want to pursue a relationship. When a relationship fails, it is because one or both parties involved gives up. Giving up on a relationship is always hard because it means someone's feelings are going to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people cheat with the hope of never being caught. Another reason why relationships fail are because of children, some people having children will help in reality it only makes worse. On the other hand, if a person may bring their child or children into the relationship, and the child and the other partner does not get along that usually cause a big problem. Communication is the number one key to a good relationship. When there is no communication between both parties involved in the relationship, that is when the relationship fails whether it is a man and a woman, or a child trying to divorce his/her parents or friends cutting their ties forever. When couples realize their relationship is starting to fail, they will try different things such as marriage counseling. That is when the couple will sit down with a therapist and they will try to work their problems out. Sometimes therapy can help the couples work their issues out and get to the root of their problems. Another solution is a vacation or a second honeymoon where they can reconcile or rekindle the relationship that they use to have. Or even as far as moving away to get a new start on life, to try to get away from the old way of how things use to be and try to start a new life together again. In a relationship, we have to know what we can, and cannot live without. Being in a relationship means nothing, no one is perfect and in a relationship, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

DISOBEDIENCE AS A PSYCHOLOGICAL AND MORAL PROBLEM 1 "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" Erich Fromm Summaries Name Class Professor Date DISOBEDIENCE AS A PSYCHOLOGICAL AND MORAL PROBLEM 2 "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" Erich Fromm Erich Fromm's essay "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" suggests that humankind's evolution has, and continues to rely on man's capability to exercise disobedience. While discussing the positions of disobedience being considered a vice, and obedience being a virtue, Fromm reflects upon the history of Adam and Eve believing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He adds to this by introducing the concepts of rational and irrational authority, explaining that rational authority would be equivalent to that of a teacher and student whereby there is mutual benefit, while irrational authority would be identified by the likes of a slave and his owner who demonstrates complete disregard of the slave's happiness or well–being, his only interest being how the slave will benefit him. Through a veil of lies man obeys the State, the Church, the mass opinions of their peers, or any other organization that they view to be in power. This affords him a false sense of safety and protection. In his obedience, man feels strong allowing him to be controlled by the fear of being isolated or having undesirable repercussions greet him as a result of any disobedience. Throughout history it has been evident that, for the most part, the few in power have ruled over the majority. The foundation of this relationship has been "the few" equating obedience with virtue and disobedience with sin, resulting in man not only needing to obey, but wanting to obey. Man's inability to see that he has lost his ability to disobey and stand up for what he believes and values, instead of what he has been brainwashed to believe and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Child X Strengths As previously mentioned, there are some strengths and weaknesses that child X exhibits. In terms of strengths, he is incredibly talented when it comes to the arts. Child X has been in quite a few plays during our time together at camp. This included having lead roles in Mama Mia, Greece, Little Shop of Horrors, and much more. During these plays, he memorized his lines and dance moves better than most of the kids, and preformed with a smile on his face. As well, he is very talented when it comes to visual arts. He is a great artist, can follow instructions well, and always put 110% into the art pieces he makes. Child X is also very compassionate, and interacts well with the farm animals. Child X struggles when it comes to athletics. Although in his mind he wants to participate and do well in sports, his motor skills are not that strong. He struggles when it comes to running, kicking soccer balls, throwing basketballs, and more. Once he gets frustrated playing these sports, it takes quite some time to get him back into a positive mindset. Interesting enough though, child X is a fantastic swimmer. Child X also struggles when it comes to making friends. He gets anxious around other campers, and it takes some time for him to get comfortable with his peers. He would often rely on spending the day with me, however our main goal was to integrate him with the cabin, and due to his social anxiety, this became an issue. Finally, the hardest aspect of child X's personality is that he is aware that he is different. One day, child X said to me: "I hate G–D". I proceeding to ask him why, and he stated: "because he gave me autism." It broke my heart to know that child X was aware that this exceptionality was negatively impacting his ... • 7. Analysis Of Nicholas Kristof 's Lecture On September 14th,... During Nicholas Kristof's lecture on September 14th, 2015 evening, he talked about the problems of the world and what are some ways that we can overcome them with innovation. He started with some personal experience of traveling around the world with his family and used that to lead into his topic of human trafficking. It pointed out that it is very prevalent in other countries, but also here in the US. He promoted fixing our country before we start telling other countries what to do. He then brought up his family "pet" which was his Father's Day present. He got a trained rat in his name that helped him explain the new innovations to old problems. He explained that the technology and the researched knowledge is massive and using that knowledge is crucial to change the world. Later, Kristof explained the idea of prevention before need. He backed this motto up by presenting the ideas of deworming children to increase school attendance, girls getting sex education knowledge and using contraceptives, and early childhood education. All these had the push to do something before it is a problem and how being proactive saves the public money. He has these ideas to help those who are too poor to live and cannot afford the advantages of certain luxuries. Kristof ended the lecture in promoting change and fighting for a cause. He mentioned to volunteer and take action no matter how old or young a person may be and focus on a cause that means something personal to the individual so that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Psychological Approach To The Drinking Problem Essay Many people use drinking for different outcomes. Some drink for entertainment and fun with friends, and others use it as a way of escape or to deal with emotions. Mel's drinking problem isn't uncommon especially since he started so young. When you view the effects, drinking has had on his life and from different psychological approaches it could help with providing the tools needed to get to the root of the problem. Mel's issue could be viewed from biological, sociocultural and psychoanalytic approaches. For starters, Mel started drinking at 12 and hasn't stopped since. The effects that drinking has on the body is worse for children especially since they're not yet fully developed. The biological approach to psychology would be able to examine just how the effect of drinking may have on the nervous system. For example, because of one's adolescent drinking they may develop lasting health effects like impairments in brain functions such as memory, coordination and motor skills. In Mel's case, he might struggle to remember to complete assignments at work due to damage he has inflicted on his own nervous system. Drinking alcohol not only effects your bodily functions but your personality and other aspects of your life. One aspect that drinking can affect you would be your social life which could result in strained relationships. The influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This approach puts stress on the influence of fears, desires, and motivations one may have but aren't aware. Due to Mel's poor attendance at work one may say he lacks motivation. There are emotions he may have but aren't aware of that may motivate his drinking. Another aspect of life that the psychoanalytical approach is based on is childhood experiences. Drinking is often used as a coping mechanism and because Mel has been drinking since he was a child this may be the way he deals with his feelings. He may not know another way of ... • 11. Erich Fromm's Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral... Erich Fromm's Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem In "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem," Erich Fromm (1963) argues that society will self–destruct without achieving freedom through disobedience. Fromm begins with analogies of Hebrew and Greek mythology showing how disobedience to a god freed humans. Using this correlation, Fromm shows freedom as a condition for disobedience, and vice– versa. Therefore, Fromm proclaims that without disobedience the human race could destroy itself within a generation. Fromm's article, first published in 1963, stems from fear of a third world war. Despite the "outdated" comment by Behrens and Rosen in the introduction, the article still applies to suggestion human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fromm relates this to the fetus in the womb and to cutting the umbilical cord to become fully human. In both situations, Fromm believes the disobedience in both situation results in freedom. The Adam and Eve analogy holds true only to creationists, not to evolutionists. Atheists, agnostics, and other religions simply reject the Garden of Eden story. For these people, the process of becoming "fully human" resulted in evolution over thousands of years. However, if the analogy is true for the fetus, one must assume the mother demands the baby to stay in the womb, not to enter the new world. Yet the purpose of procreation is to bring a new child into this world. Birth is a natural process, not a medical procedure, thus cannot be forever prolonged (Childbirth.org). How often is it mothers are disappointed pregnancy did not last longer? Most mothers become ecstatic when pregnancy is over and she can enjoy God's creation. Fromm (1963) uses the analogy in his essay to suggest the baby disobeys God. However, once conception occurs, the mother has only one choice under God's law– giving birth. A few examples of God's will are in 1 Timothy 2:15, "women will be saved through childbearing," and how Exodus 21:22–23 mentions morally wrong abortion. With thousands of biblical examples, it should be hard for a religious scholar to suggest a baby disobeys God's will by leaving its mothers womb. Disobeying God can ... He admits that he feels like a "disconnected robot" and feels detached from his own body, stating that sometimes he cannot tell if he is alive or dead. He experiences feelings of having "no self" and due to this, he is constantly afraid. This is impacting his social life and his grades. These symptoms appear to begin after a month long period of depression over a break up with his girlfriend. Jason has a history of panic attacks and feelings of detachment, which occurred around the same time that his mother was hospitalized for her own psychiatric problems. These same symptoms occurred surrounding his parents' divorce and the leaving of his father. His mother is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Phase 1 Stabilization. Following phase one of the case conceptualization model, we would need to stabilize Jason's home situation, being that mom has paranoid schizophrenia and Jason has spent much of his life taking care of her. • 19. Psychological Problems And Development Of Childhood... Introduction The developmental psychopathology approach is the study of psychological problems and complexities in human development. It focuses on the atypical development of childhood through to adult life. According to Sroufe and Rutter (1984) it focuses on individual patterns of adaptation and maladaptation throughout development. This approach is designed to prevent behavioural and emotional differences within development, whilst positively reinforcing the idea of typical development. Cases of atypical development can include ADHD, eating disorders, anxiety and many other developmental disorders that differ from the developmental population norm. According to Ciccheti (1984) developmental psychopathology must "draw upon the results of many different areas of research: in particular, general developmental psychology, traditional academic psychology, and also the clinical sciences of psychiatry and clinical psychology" (p.1) This implies that to find the link between typical and atypical behaviour, researchers must draw upon the social, biological and psychological aspects of a persons life. Cummings et al (2003) believed that "developmental psychopathology is best defined by its primary goal; achieving a science that could unravel the dynamic process relations underlying pathways of normal development and the development of psychopathology" (p.17) From this it is assumed that this approach aims to expand the knowledge of developmental disorders that affect the typical ... • 21. The Psychological Problems Of A Society Empathy helps a person to understand the other, and in that way, the bond between the two gets stronger. "never do what you don't want to happen to you or a loved one" is a famous phrase that parents tell their children, so they can develop empathy from the early age. This is not the case in many crimes. Besides financial problems, the psychological problems are the ones that finish the work of the crime–to destroy the victims' life. Realistically speaking, not all crimes' intent is that; however, once a person's confidence of his own safety is destroyed, second thoughts of fears and remembering the scene become more lethal that the crime's outcome itself. When this occurs, people empathizes with the victim, especially because people worries that the same crime would happen to them, and it's a normal reaction. The role of a society is to keep all the members of the group alive by mutual help, and to keep the weak protected from the power of the strong–in other words, to avoid the appearance of predators and victims. A crime threats this social trust people have to each other. In literature, the existence of utopias shows that the society's main role can be achieved, at the cost of people's freedom. Deterrence theory tells that a person is a rational actor of free will (qtd. Pratt, 2011). When a person's free will is taken away, an authority institution can avoid this will be corrupted by random factors. For example, in "From the New World" by Yusuke Kishi, people ... • 23. Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem DISOBEDIENCE AS A PSYCHOLOGICAL AND MORAL PROBLEM 2 "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" Erich Fromm Erich Fromm's essay "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" suggests that humankind's evolution has, and continues to rely on man's capability to exercise disobedience. While discussing the positions of disobedience being considered a vice, and obedience being a virtue, Fromm reflects upon the history of Adam and Eve believing that "eating the forbidden fruit" was man's first act of disobedience. This is the point that broke the bond between man and nature requiring man to be dependant upon his own powers, while rewarding him with his "complete" humanity, freedom, ... Man's inability to see that he has lost his ability to disobey and stand up for what he believes and values, instead of what he has been brainwashed to believe and value, will inevitably ensure the destruction of all civilization at the hand of man. Man's only saving grace will be his ability to realize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the trials, Nazi war criminals were put on trial for the atrocities they committed against the Jewish population of Germany. When asked why they had committed such acts of horror, many of the Nazi soldiers attested by saying that they were under orders to do so. The trials questioned the motives behind instances of mass human torment which have led many scientists and psychologists to strive to understand the rationality behind human obedience. Dalrymple mentions that while his orders to prolong the lives of dying patients went against his morals, he felt obligated to follow the commands of his physician due to her greater amount of experience; however, Dalrymple also states that it is oftentimes necessary for a subordinate to determine when they should disobey an authority. Not only can blind obedience lead to negative consequences in a society, but blind disobedience can have similar adverse effects. Some of the negatives of blind disobedience include individuals who cannot listen to other individuals and properly perform their jobs. Additionally, people who cannot obey authority in their lives find it very difficult to have human interactions as they live their whole lives only listening to themselves. These individuals live life as though it is a power struggle. Though the Milgram experiment pins obedience as being a negative attribute for an individual to express, Dalrymple states that neither total obedience nor total disobedience are beneficial to society. Fromm initiates his article by addressing the commonly held belief that obedience is a virtue and disobedience is a vice. Fromm mentions that this is not the case, as "human history began with an act of disobedience, and it is not unlikely that it will be terminated by an act of obedience"(Fromm 227). He did various things and had various jobs. The author talks about the effects of obedience and disobedience. He explains that the world we live in today will be destroyed through disobedience. Fromm uses mythological and religious figures to explain how this theory makes sense. Fromm argues that society goes on without accomplishing freedom through disobedience. Some forms of disobedience are acceptable, but others may be too harsh and unnecessary. Fromm strongly believes that humans should be disobedient and if not they will not be successful in life. The first thing that he talks about is Adam and Eve and how they disobeyed an order, which was when they ate from the forbidden tree. The consequence of disobeying a request made the ties with Earth tear and their eyes to open. • 45. Comparing Erich Fromm's Disobedience As A Psychological... Erich Fromm wrote "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem," in 1963, an essay detailing balance between obedience and disobedience. Fromm cited that authority figures insisted obedience as a virtue and disobedience as a vice. He argued that disobedience began human history itself and necessary to continue it. Fromm first discussed a Biblical example: the story of Adam and Eve. Humans were in harmony with nature, yet still in their infancy. Prophets argued it is through man's "sin" can reason and love developed, and men become human. Only through disobedience were they able to grow into individuals and independence. Fromm drew onto the Greek myth of Prometheus as another source of evolution through disobedience. Prometheus' theft of fire from the gods laid down the foundations for civilization. Both examples have mankind's history begin with disobedience. The capacity of disobedience allows humans to evolve. Fromm argues that if disobedience began history, then obedience will end it. While humankind's capability is great, it outpaces rational and humanistic ideals. Destruction will come through obeying amoral thoughts; commands from higher authority and "archaic passions of fear, hate, and greed" (p. 684, 11th ed.). Fromm clarifies that obedience or disobedience is not a single value system. The principles that guide in obedience or disobedience may be either good or bad. • 47. Psychological Problems Caused By Negative Thinking 1– INTRODUCTION 1.1. Background A large number of psychological problems can be caused by negative thinking. Very often people create their own stress through negative thinking and there are times that small stresses are made into major ones by negative thoughts. Negative thinking can be triggered by almost any type of circumstance and is usually involved in depression, anxiety, anger, and relationship problems (Beckham, 2004) They are unwanted and involuntary thoughts that come to our mind and most people experience them at times (Rachmant and Desilva, 1978). They can drain your energy and people in general find them very stressful. Thought suppression is the most common reaction to negative thoughts. It is when an individual tries to suppress thinking about a particular subject in order to avoid doing it. Thoughts give rise to emotions, and when the emotions are undesirable, it is human nature to tend to suppress the thoughts that provoke such emotions or reactions (Wenzlaff & Wegner, 2000). Several studies have suggested that trying to put a thought or emotion out of mind while we're stressed can have ironic effects meaning it can come back stronger. Daniel Wegner, a Canadian psychologist, studied the ironic effects of thoughts suppression in a lab setting in 1987. He conducted a simple experiment known as the White Bear Theory and divided participants into 2 groups, suppression and expression. Neglect which is practiced mostly by parents has physical and psychological signs. Neglect is the process of not providing the child with the basic needs such as food, water, clothes, and so on. Neglect can be divided into medical, which is the process of not providing a child medical attention, safety, which is the process of not protecting a child in any situation, educational, which is the process of not letting the child go to school, and physical, which is the process of not providing a child the appropriate alimentation (Schmitt.) In "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem", Erich Fromm warns "human history began with an act of disobedience, and it is not unlikely that it will be terminated by an action of obedience" (622). Fromm effectively supports the claim while revealing that disobedience is the key concept standing between freedom and the end of human history. Fromm's article was published during the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States. Tension from the possibility of the end of the world due to the likelihood of a nuclear war between the two countries was at an all–time high. Fromm starts off with his negative view of certain types of obedience and his view that disobedience is needed in order to have freedom. Fromm shows how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The people's impulse to obey the government is allowing the current president of the United States, who John D. According to US News, Gartner stated, "'Donald Trump is dangerously mentally ill and temperamentally incapable of being president,' says Gartner ... Trump, Gartner says, has 'malignant narcissism,' which is different from narcissistic personality disorder and which is incurable" (qtd. in Milligan). The obedience of a power might be negatively affecting our foreign affairs and allowing a man to ignore and violate the Constitution. The current president is using fear to get the American citizens to obey him by using different minorities as scapegoats. Aubrey did not want to listen to what others in the group were saying, so she avoided the subject (Banks, 2012). She uses the strategy of avoiding, which Floyd (2012) explains as, "...ignoring the conflict and hoping it will go away on its own." (p. 368). Aubrey ignored the voices of the group hoping the topic would dissipate and the group would perform in her traditionally styled way. It's distinct that nonverbal communication, interpersonal conflict, and deceptive communication are clear concepts of communication that are depicted in this film. By observing these types of communication during the film, I've learned how to pay more attention to nonverbal communication like facial expressions that do not match the verbal message someone is conveying. I've noticed the way groups learn how to work together and come to a good compromise and accommodate with one another to accomplish a common goal. In addition to these, attempting to spot deception was a little more difficult to do with this film starting out. Deception is very accurately portrayed in Pitch Perfect, and by noticing these deceptive tendencies I learned how vocal tone and facial expressions could be very deceiving to other individuals. In order to see deceptive cues, you have to notice these changes in tone in the voice, and the expressions one's face makes when they are communicating. This movie has furthered my understanding in nonverbal communication, interpersonal conflict, and deceptive communication by representing all of these concepts of communication in their movie so ... Jane's Psychological Problems in Charlotte Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper" In Charlotte Gilman's short story "The Yellow Wallpaper," Jane, the main character, is a good example of Sigmund Freud's Studies In Hysteria. Jane suffers from symptoms such as story making and daydreaming. Jane has a nervous weakness throughout the story. Jane is a victim of a nervous disorder of the brain called hysteria. She is aware that she suffers from a series of mental and physical disturbances. She says that she has a " temporary nervous depression: –– a slight hysterical tendency– what is one to do?"(2). She refers back to the children from her imagination, the children that were living in the so–called nursery before her. Towards the end of the story, Jane learns to hate the room as a result of spending so much of her time in there. She is really disturbed from the patterns of the wallpaper. Jane comments on the patterns, as "a constant irritant to a normal mind"(12) because she thinks that she has a normal mind. The color is "repellent," that is, "almost revolting." She says that "it is dull enough to confuse the eye in following, pronounced enough to constantly irritate and provoke study, and when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance they suddenly commit suicide" (4). According to Freud, Jane is clearly hallucinating when she says that the lines on the wallpaper "suddenly commit suicide"(6). She is greatly annoyed and bothered by the way it looks. Jane sees a vision of death in the paper. "There is a recurrent spot where the pattern lolls like a broken neck and two bulbous eyes stare at you upside down"(6). • 64. Disobedience As A Psychological And Moral Problem By Erich... Why someone may cause harm to themselves by eating too much food or starve themselves is different in any case throughout society, but the real question is why someone would follow through with the voice telling them to do it. In the article "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" author Erich Fromm would say that the reason a person would ever inflict this kind of pain upon oneself is because of their humanistic conscience. Fromm says that the humanistic conscience is "the ability to be and to judge oneself" (126). So if someone does not like their appearance then they will listen to their conscience that is telling them that they are not good enough, and physically hurt themselves to the point where it has become life threatening. Fromm would also say that disobedience has a negative reputation. Fromm says "...history obedience has been identified with virtue and disobedience with sin" (127). Throughout history, disobedience has been seen as a wrong thing to do, so people have been obedient to things that they should not be. So when someone's conscience tells them to eat another slice of pizza to make them happy and take their mind off the bad things, then they listen because they believe it is the right thing to do, which it is not. Fromm explains how someone can overcome this voice is to just say no, which is a hard thing to do. He states "A person can become free through acts of disobedience by learning to say no to power"(127). Learning to say no is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Erich Fromm argued in his 1963 article "Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem" that humanity could easily be ended by an act of blind obedience. He follows this with stating that there would be no human history without disobedience. He reasons this with the story of Adam and Eve. Fromm then adds the example of Prometheus and how there would be no human history if it were not for Prometheus' crime. One of Fromm's main points in the essay is that man will probably destroy itself within the next five to ten years, by someone blindly obeying authority. He had the viewpoint of someone living through the Atomic Age. His next point is about the dichotomy between obedience and disobedience. This is about how the obedience to one principle ... These are ideas regarding human tendencies that we can always learn from. His ideas are well informed and thoroughly backed up with evidence. This makes the article valuable to the reader as it is a credible source of ideas and information. I strongly agree with Fromm's main point about how humanity could easily be ended with a blind act of obedience to authority. I think that this is still very true today because we now have even more advanced technology and therefore more advanced weapons. With the current political tensions present that could soon escalate, I think that this could be a very real fear again very soon and it already is for some people. What Are Holden's Psychological Problems In Everyday Life Holden's Psychological Problems Throughout His Everyday Life Many people including teenagers have and go through behavior problems throughout the course of life. It is usually something in the brain that causes these problems and sometimes one may not even realize it's a problem. Whether it is anger or suicidal feelings they all can have a huge affect on one's life and impact them in a bad way. Behavior problems can distract one from the real meaning and value of life and can cause one to live a bad and short life. Throughout The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. He was getting physically bullied by Maurice and statistics have shown that people who get bullied or abused are more enlightened to have suicidal feelings. According to the article, "Research on suicide overlooks young children" , written by a psychologist who researched factors that lead to suicidal thoughts, "... [C]hildren and adolescents with suicidal behaviors seem to be driven more by circumstantial factors, such as family discord, social failure, or bullying, experts say" (Weir). Holden frequently faces bullying during adolescence including when he was younger and when Maurice smacked him and that may lead to him having suicidal thoughts. Holden also has problems with social failure and communication with people so that may also lead to him having these negative thoughts entering his mind. These feelings can really harm Holden and cause him to have a short life if he acts upon these feelings. Furthermore, when Holden was walking to the Wicker Bar to meet Carl Luce, he started to think about the war movie and how he couldn't stand going to war. Holden explains how he would find war really disturbing especially if he had to march with Ackley, Stradlater, and Maurice in the army and he would not be able to handle it. Holden even goes as far as to say if there's another war he will sit in front of the firing squad without objecting and he would sit right on top of the atomic bomb.
