4. The music video begins with a shot of a girl. This already
subverts a stereotypical rock music video because focusing on
a girl automatically gives the audience an idea that the song
may be about a girl or love etc.
Also we see that the saturation is quite low and this is
stereotypical for a rock music video as the music isn't likely to
be happy and fun which would suit a bright saturation so here
where the saturation is low it suits the mood of the song.

5. In part of the music video there seems to be
some sort of fight going on but not between
humans or animals but between toys. This
subverts a stereotypical rock music video
because it isn’t often you see colourful toys in this
genre.
The fact that this isn't a common thing to see in a
rock music video or any music video in fact,
suggests that this particular song could fit into the
alternative/indie rock genre.
Although there are toys this contrasts with
the fact that the toys are showing an
element of violence which doesn’t subvert
a stereotypical rock music video because
people often associate rock with violence
and aggressive behaviour.

6. There seems to people trapped below the ground as if
they’re in some sort of dungeon and they finally escape .
The characters are played by the actual group (Imagine
Dragons) excluding the man below and the girl and
extras previously seen in the music video.
There is a strange storyline throughout the music video
and it isn’t quite clear what the actual story is. The fact
there is a storyline isn’t very stereotypical because rock
music videos are often just of the band playing their
instruments and putting on a performance rather than
acting.

7. There are parts of the video that are supernatural such as when the pink
fluffy bear creates pink sparkly dust and zaps the villain and turns him into a
skeleton. This adheres to a stereotypical rock music video as it is common to
see supernatural things in rock music videos. It also subverts the stereotype
seeing the colour pink as this is stereotypically a girly colour and people
wouldn’t often associate the colour pink with the rock genre.

8. Although there is a storyline throughout this music video
there is also scenes where you see the band using their
musical instruments such as drums and guitars which
are often instruments that are associated with rock as
they are quite loud, strong instruments. This is
stereotypical because rock music videos often show the
band playing their instruments and singing.
Also in this scene contrasts with the other scenes
as it is quite dark and has gone back to the low
saturation. The band are wearing dark clothing too
which adheres to the stereotype that they rock is
quite dark and not often happy and colourful.

9. LAURA ARNOLD
In this music video we can see that the majority of people are
white and there are no black people which is quite stereotypical
for a rock music video as rock is mainly seen to be associated
with white males.
10. TARGET AUDIENCE
LAURA ARNOLD
• The target audience wouldn’t be too limited on age compared to genres such as R&B
because this video doesn’t contain any sexual content at all. Although there are elements
of violence it is very limited and is not between humans or animals, just between toys so
this video would be suited to all ages.
• This video may be targeted more towards boys because stereotypically boys are more
into rock music and almost every person in the video is male except one and this gives
boys plenty of role models with in the music video. However this could also mean that
girls would be quite interested in the video as girls may be attracted to the males and
therefore want to watch the video.
• Overall I think the target audience for this music video would be for males above the age
of 15 because of the genre of music and the actual content in the music video.
