3. Audience Feedback
As we can see from the audience feedback even though this
music video was produced in 1995, it still is a huge hit
among all years and age groups. From this particular
comment you can see that Amairany really enjoyed the
music video and we can, see that 5,872 people agreed with
her, overall the main audience feed back was they liked the
performance, eventhough some people might not be able
to understand it they can relate to the lyrics.
4. In the starting sequence, a clown
walks across the screen from a long
angle to turn on the record, wonder
wall.This made me quite confused
and I didn’t understand, and this is
why in this particular video by Oasis
they show a lot of disjuncture in their
video, which doesn’t relate to the
music at all.The reason why they
could show a lot of disjuncture to
convince that their music is way out
there and should, be taken quite
seriously. The band seem to be quite
confident, this could definitely link to
the Indie genre, because it does
seem like every band, is very self
assured. This could also link to Stuart
Halls idea of Patriarchy because
mostly in this video men are shown.
There is an established long shot, which is looking
through an almost film camera lens, it looks quite
rough and ready which is exactly what indie music
videos almost relate to.The black and white
almost conveys the simplistic atmosphere to the
song, the black and white also amplifies the
masculinity of the overall video/song, and in turn
links to Patriarchy. As we can see the video has
been over exposed, this adds a character, due to
being individual to Oasis, which links to Andrew
Goodwin’s idea that a band/artist has a visual style,
and the black and white shows they have a very
vintage style.
5. In one of the following shots we see
an extreme close up of Noel Gallega,
this amplifies to the audience here is
the main lead singer/ main icon for
the group. As we can see Noel has
some circular lights which are
reflecting off the glasses this show
originality and this portrays a typical
indie video.
Here we can see a cross dissolve of
two scenes, this could show that
both images link, like they are one
person in one lead vocalist image,
the reason for the blue guitar not
being black white in my opinion is to
show that is main make up in their
band, their music. Also it could show
that they have many aspects to
there songs other than their music.
6. Here we are returned to the original
shot, with instead, the lead singer of
Noel.The shot cross dissolves in
from the previous, shot of the clown,
allowing a fluid and coherent
relationship between the record
player and the music being played by
the singer.
The singer is positioned in the centre
of the stage, which allows attraction
to be centred upon him, to show he
is the main man, which is also typical
of indie band to have one main
singer.
7. Strauss’s theory tells the audience about binary opposites, some binary
opposite which are present in this are…..
Weak vs Strong
We can see this binary opposite because Noel is needing his love of his life to
come and save him from being mentally unstable, which shows a sign of
weakness, but also by the audience watching the music video it is like the
audience are the strength behind the video.
Insane vs Sane
In the video we see a lot going on, the theme to me is circus themed which
could connote quite an insane sort of character, because there is a lot of
disjuncture which doesn’t really relate to the song. But in a way because he is
singing about his love of his life making him sane it could connote it in that
way.
Linking to the theories
8. Propps theory
Propp suggests 8 main character for a narrative performance… in
the music video Wonder wall I would say that there was two main
character….
The seeker hero, I would say that Noel is acting as
the seeker hero, due to in his lyric he is seeking help to relief his
suffering, in the way of his mental instability.
The Donor , I would say that the audience is the donor
because we are almost providing the help to him by watching the
video.
