2. Electronic dance/house music is a mix of both house and
electronic dance music. Early songs that showed
characteristics of this genre came about in 1996 such as ‘The
Arrival’ by Arrivers. Also Basement Jaxx released songs similar
to this genre and the act is still very popular today having had
popular hits and produced soundtracks for films. In the early
years of the 21st century the genre became increasingly
popular and more and more new producers were creating this
type of music. Today’s famous names include Skrillex and
Martin Garrix. The tempo of this music tends to be quite fast
averaging at about 128-130 beats per minute making it ideal
for dance music.
3. The genre of our chosen song ‘Children of Love’ is electronic pop/house
music with a positive, mellow vibe. Our target audience is quite a
mainstream one as this type of music is currently increasingly popular. For
the second year in a row since 2012, dance music had the most rapid
growth in terms of tracks sold. However, generally the song is aimed at a
younger audience of 16-25 year olds. This is because dance music is used in
clubs and 18-25 year olds are more likely to go out and listen to this type of
music. Also this younger more targeted audience is more likely to use
platforms such as YouTube and iTunes in which this kind of music is very
accessible to them. As well as clubbing, this type of music is also very
popular at music festivals such as ‘Electronic Zoo’ which is a festival
dedicated only for electronic dance music. This festival made use of this
generalised young, ‘tech savvy’ target audience by using social media such
as Twitter and sending Snapchat stories out for anyone to watch. This
genre is often either used as dance music or remixed to be used as dance
music. As this type of music is fairly modern, our video will have to follow
that idea to reflect the meaning of the song.
4. There are few words in the song hence it is quite instrumental
which follows the conventions of this genre. Other songs of
the same genre that follow this convention are Animals by
Martin Garrix and Habits (Stay High) - Hippie Sabotage
Remix by Tove Lo. The lyrics in these cases are rare or
repetitive just as they are in our chosen song. An interesting,
quite unique part of ‘Children of Love’ is the fast violin
sequence as this sound is not usually used in similar songs.
This differentiates it from other songs that are similar.
Typical music videos are parties in clubs, young people having
fun and quite a lot of voyeurism with scantily clad women to
attract a male gaze. These videos are sometimes cut to the
beat to fit better with the song.
5. •Our video will use fairly fast cutting and try to cut to the beat
•Our video will be positive and involve friends having fun
•Our video will use young characters to try and relate to the
mass young audience
•Our video will feature technology including a mobile phone
to keep it modern.
•It will include interesting camera angles and editing to keep
the audience interested.
