Staples Inventory Delayed Ratio
The times–interest–earned ratio is used to show a company's ability to meet the current portion of its
debt obligations. Having a negative times–interest–earned ratio is not desirable because it signals
the inability of a company to meet its interest payments. Inability to meet interest payments is an
alarming signal that a company is not doing well, and could even be headed towards default on debt
or even bankruptcy. Staples had a positive times–interest–earned ratio in all five years, even in 2012
when the company had a net loss. This is a good sign in that the company has always been able to
meet its debt obligations even in years where it could not ultimately provide a return to its
shareholders. Staples position is even more favorable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Staples ratio is slowly trending upward, while Office Depot's ratio varies widely. What is very
important here is that Office Depot has a significantly better turnover rate in the last two years than
does Staples. This represents a tremendous opportunity for Staples to find more efficient ways to
utilize the facilities that it has to generate better returns, or to close inefficient facilities and cut
down on expenses. Because Staples is in a generally better financial position than is Office Depot, it
could likely replicate their success in this area if proper resources were devoted to the

The Antithesis Area
The Antithesis Area is affiliated to a point in time, such as the end of a budgetary year, quarter, or

Performance Analysis : Performing Ratio Analysis
In order to analyse how well a business is performing ratio analysis is used by accountants and
many stakeholders. To do ratio analysis, figures from the profit and loss account and balance sheet
are used to determine a business's profitability, solvency, liquidity and efficiency. Account ratios are
formulas used to decide whether to lend money to companies. All banks are different and all ratios
are a judgement made on the quality and likelihood of a return on investment by the bank or other
creditors. Solvency ratios are used to determine how quickly a company can get hold of money, how
quickly assets can become cash in order to pay for something urgent. Profitability is the ability of
Rolls Royce to earn a profit. A profit is what is left of the revenue which a business generates after it
pays all the expenses directly related to the generation of the revenue as producing a product, and
other expenses related to the conduct of the business' activities. There are many different ways for a
business to analyse profitability. The ratios that help with this include profitability ratio, gross
margin, net operating ratio and return on asset ratio. Liquidity is the measure of the extent to which
Rolls Royce has cash avail bale to meet the immediate and short term commitments, or assets which
can be quickly converted to help with this. There are different types of liquidity ratios which include
current ratio and acid test ratio. A business's efficiency is the measure of what is

Lipton Case Review
Executive Summary
Detailed analysis of Lipton's current Economic Profit model has prompted immediate changes to
how profit is recorded on the Product Line level.
Proposed changes to the current Economic Profit include: I. Leave the Working Capital Cost and
CRV Depreciation Adjustment in the profit analysis II. Eliminate the Fixed–Asset Charge and
OI&D III. Only apply New Product Development charges to new products
Goals of these proposed changes: * Ensure product line managers are focused on improving the
value of their product, not just on profit/loss numbers * Allow upper management to analyze
product line performance on a level playing field * Provide divisional management with the
unbiased authority to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CRV Depreciation Adjustment
This adjustment accounts for the difference between the "current replacement value" and the
historical depreciation value of assets. The purpose of the CRV adjustment is to assign replacement
value to depreciating assets. As a result, the opportunity cost of these assets is deducted from a
particular product line's profit. The challenge associated with this adjustment will be directly related
to properly allocating a % of fixed assets to a particular product line. We will address the issue
concerning the allocation of fixed assets below (Fixed–Asset Charge). Consequently, this is the
same method used by the corporate financial department. Therefore, by including the CRV
depreciation, corporate managers will be pleased that product line performance measures are
factoring in this opportunity cost. Furthermore, product line managers must be weary of fixed asset
costs because of the CRV depreciation adjustment's negative effect on economic profit.
Fixed–Asset Charge
Fixed Asset charges are difficult to estimate and allocate to a particular product line. Under the old
Economic Profit system, many product lines could post losses due to large fixed cost allocations.
When losses are associated with a product lines, managers naturally panic. Therefore, we believe
that all fixed assets should be evaluated on an Operating Division

An Analysis Of Louise Erdrich 's ' The Red Convertible '
Mailk Sims Often times, an inanimate object can be as important and sometimes more important
than the characters of the story. In Louise Erdrich 's "The Red Convertible," the car played the same
important role as the characters did, but for different reasons. Two brothers, Lyman and Henry, had
very little in common other than their blood. One day they decided to catch a ride to Winnipeg. The
car was introduced while these two were doing some sightseeing in the city. They spotted the red
Oldsmobile convertible. Lyman, the storyteller, almost made the car a living thing when he said,
"There it was, parked, large as life. Really as if it were alive." (461) The brothers used all of the
money they had, less some change for gas to get home, to buy the car. The car 's significance was
the bond that it created between the brothers. The purchase of the vehicle brought these two together
with a common interest: the car. Once the bond was formed, the brothers became inseparable, at
least for a while. The boys spent the whole summer in the car. They explored new places; met new
people and furthered the bond that the car had created. When they returned from their trip, Henry
was sent to war. He left the car with Lyman. While Henry was gone, Lyman spent his time
pampering and fixing the car. Lyman saw the car as an extension of Henry. Lyman used the car to
maintain an emotional bond with his brother who was thousands of miles away. During the war,
Henry was taken P.O.W. and spent time

bringing a loss to Longhaul Carriers. Effective control for the future Fixed assets represent a large
amount of funding so it is important to have controls in place to ensure they are used properly and
for the purposes of the organisation. * Jimmy's fixed assets should be correctly recorded, secured
and properly maintained. * Acquisitions and disposals of fixed assets should be properly authorised.
* Acquisitions and disposals of fixed assets should take place at the best price possible. * Fixed
assets should be properly recorded, appropriately depreciated, and written down where necessary. *
Annual capital expenditure budgets They should be prepared by someone directly responsible to the
board. If acceptable, they should be agreed by the board and minuted. * Applications for authority to
incur capital expenditure These should be submitted to the board for approval and should contain
reasons for the expenditure and estimated cost. A document should show what is to be acquired, and
be signed as authorised by the board or an authorised official. * Register of fixed assets A register of
fixed assets should be maintained for each major group of assets.

Descriptive Essay About Father
When I was 10 years old, I realized I was different from my father. I was in my room playing with
LEGO's when dad called up. "Do you wanna help me fix the car?" As the truck often had problems
dad had to fix. I thought about it, remembering how dirty dad would be afterward. "No, I don't
wanna be filthy," I called back, and that right there is when I realized how different I was from my
father. Now thinking about it, both are physical build as well as mental were completely different. I
was clean and liked science and math, while dad was always filthy and preferred working with his
hands over science. The differences could not be more obvious, while dad worked outside fixing
this, or building that. I would sit inside reading a book, both fictional and nonfictional. Obtaining all
the information contained inside. Dad would often dive into a problem head on without much
thought about it, while I, on the other hand, would examine a situation from all angles. Attempting
to find the best solution. Another situation is physical. My father is built strong but short, around
five six, with a shiny bald head. While I am weak, and skinny, but taller with long curly hair. Back
when father had hair it was straight and black while mine is brown. My skin is always shiny white
that can not hold a tan more than a few days. While dad has a dark tan almost always and he never
burns. I was always a child of science and math, while dad did not care for such things. Back when I

An effective fixed asset management policies and procedures would preserve the value and
usefulness of Mai–Wel's fixed assets and would array their assets in a way that creates value.
Mai–Wel has revenue of more than $1 million (Acnc.gov.au, 2015) which means that it is classified
as a large Public company Limited by Guarantee and as a result they have to prepare financial
reports and the reports have to be audited; therefore it is imperative that the financial statements
mirror an outlook consistent with their asset management reality.
1.2) WHAT IS AN ASSET MANAGEMENT POLICY?
"Asset management policies and procedures guides are an important part of better practice entities '
internal control environment" (Anao.gov.au, 2015). It is defined as "Principles and mandated
requirements derived from, and consistent with, the organizational strategic plan". (Theiam.org,
2015) An asset management policy and procedure's guide evidently institutes what is vital to record,
account for, manage and protect assets within the organisation. These guides can also be designed in
a way that provides an advantageous direction on managing assets on a day–to–day basis. Asset
management policies also reinforce the objectives of the organisation and its strategic direction as a

The Pros And Cons Of Robots
It is the year 2560 and the Robot population has increased at a significant rate. They aren't taking
over quite yet, but they're scarce and rapidly populating the Earth. These robots are extremely
advanced and smart. They used to look exactly how humans do so you could've easily get your best
friend confused with one; that is before they started disassembling. Ever since the early 2000s
Robots have advanced, looking more and more like humans. However it wasn't until the 2500's
where Robots started functioning as humans and taking our jobs. A large percentage of the human
population in New York lost their jobs to robots and went into a huge depression. Humans were
afraid of going up against Robots because they didn't know what robots were capable of. However
they soon came up with a conclusion to help one another. *clink* There goes another one of Dr.

to himself again. He has been losing metal body parts for a while signifying that his body is dying
and rusting. Since he has many metal parts, they start to rust our every few years if not taken proper
care of by humans. The metal parts include the heart, liver, and all the other important body
functioning parts that as a human, you would need to survive. RobotSmith will soon hit his 15 year
expiration mark, meaning that he will soon need to update his technological mind system so that he

Financial Reporting Problem, Part 2: Nike
When determining the overall financial strength of a company, businesses rely on their current
assets to show value. Current assets are defined as assets that can or will be converted into cash
quickly. The value of the asset's will vary and may be used at any time as collateral for loans or
other investment business development plans. Current assets will include, of course, cash and cash
equivalents, which is the amount of money the company has in its bank accounts including savings
bonds, certificates of deposit, and money market funds. Assets must always be calculated as net
assets, that is, less any debt owed by the organization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The total current liabilities for 2011 were $3,958 million and the total current liabilities for 2010
were $3,364 million. It is important to note the current liabilities; otherwise there is a greater risk of
transparency of the company. If Nike were to not report the current liabilities, they would fail to
follow GAAP and would understate their liabilities.
All of Nike's information is important to different people for different reasons. While an investor
may want to know what assets the company has available at any given time and how much possible
retained earnings to see if the company plans on expanding, an employee may not care so much
about those things. An employee might be interested in knowing the retained earnings because
maybe that is what the company uses for bonuses each year. Creditors will need all the information
possible to know whether Nike is a company that will pay back their debts in a reasonable time.
There is always a person looking through the financials of a business, but that doesn't always mean
they are looking for the same things.

Property, Plant, And Equipment For Profit Entities
Property, Plant, and Equipment for Not–for–Profit Entities Introduction Not–for–Profit entities
differ from for profit entities in many ways. These differences are often in direct relation to core
organizational differences (such as purpose and profit distribution). This is evident in the Statement
of Financial Position that is issued by not–for–profit organizations. Not–for–profit entities are
perfectly capable of purchasing assets and these assets are accounted for very similarly to assets
purchased by a for–profit firm. However, the ability to accept contributed assets creates additional
intricacies in the Property, Plant, and Equipment line item on the Statement of Financial Position.
Not–for–profits are also affected by the choice to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In ASC 958–605 states that "contributions received" are to be recognized in the period received.
This is relatively intuitive, but causes concern when related to items with unidentifiable value. The
FASB states that contributions have no value unless they can be "used internally by the not–for–
profit entity" or "sold by the NFP" (FASB, 2015). Items that do not fall under these two categories
have no value and should not be recognized. If the not–for–profit decides to accept these gifts, they
will often classify the items as collections. Depreciation and Impairment Depreciation is required
for assets with future economic benefit or service potential by FASB. This does not include land
used as a building site or historical treasures. Historical treasures are defined as assets with
historical value that is preserved perpetually or assets with service potential that the NFP has the
ability to protect (and is currently protecting). Fixed assets such as office equipment, building for
operations, etc. are depreciated over the useful life. For example, Millersville University depreciates
their laboratory and audio/visual equipment over a useful life of 7 years (Millersville University,
2015). These assets are also subject to impairment–testing. Disclosure Not–for–profit entities are
required to classify their Property, Plant, and Equipment assets into 3 different categories. These
assets can be defined as non–depreciable assets, property

Why I Burned Asap List
The wrong person For legal reasons I cannot mention their real names so we will refer to them as
jesse and jess. I am really good at my job unfortunately some days are worse than others, this hot
August 6th was one of those days. On this particular day I happened to get what we call a burn list,
or a needs to be fired ASAP list. The list is normally ten names long, but this list happened to be
seventeen names and they all needed to be fired that day. I had fired people before so i had no issue
doing it. I had never messed up so badly until this unfortunate day.
As they day when by I had to call the people into my office one at a time, and then payout their last
check. To get through twelve in a six hour period I considered an achievement. I found myself
trying to speed things up and I got down to jesse's name, so I sent her an email asking her to come to
my office unknowingly sending it to jess and not jesse.
She came to my office a few moments after I sent the email. As she entered my office she asked in a
very happy voice, "whats up? You needed me?", I had to respond with, "Please take a seat." that was
when her bright smile turned down with a very confused look on her face. I had told her we had to

term paper about fixed assets
The fixed asset register is an accounting method used by businesses to identify the major resources
they hold. Lindsey Lester explains what it is and how it should be used
The reporting of fixed assets should comply with Financial Reporting Standard 15 (FRS 15). The
aim of this reporting standard is to ensure that tangible fixed assets are accounted for on a consistent
basis. It sets out the principles in making a decision as to whether a tangible fixed asset is stated at
cost on a financial statement or at a revalued amount. It is acknowledged within the standard that in
some cases no depreciation charge will be made on the grounds that it is immaterial.
What is a fixed asset?
The definition of a fixed asset was discussed in my last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is:
A computer was purchased for £5,000 and the life of the computer is expected to be three years with
a residual value of £800. The total amount to be depreciated will be £4,200 (£5,000–800). To
determine the amount of depreciation per year, the following equation should be used: £4,200/3 =
£1,400 pa.
The reducing balance method
This is the other commonly used method. It is usually used where the asset is required to be written
off at a higher value in the asset's infancy, usually when it has a very high usage. The amount of
depreciation will reduce at a constant rate each year as the asset gets older. For instance – an asset
was purchased for £3,250 (NBV) with a residual value of £702 at the end of three years. The rate of
depreciation will be 40% annually: Book Value
Accumulated Depreciation
First year
3250 x 40% = 1300
1950
1300
Second year
1950 x 40% = 780
1170
2080
Third year
1170 x 40% = 468
702
2548
You may also find that your accountants will refer to an asset that is being considered for
impairment, and this too should be covered in the depreciation policy
Depreciation guidelines as to over how long an asset will depreciate will be laid down in your
depreciation policy and should be followed to ensure consistency.
The purpose of the depreciation policy is to ensure that consistent principles are applied in respect
of the measurement, valuation and depreciation of a tangible fixed asset. The Academies Accounts

Theory on Control of Assets Essay
Part 1: Theory on control of assets
1) Internal controls are methods that a company puts in place to ensure the integrity of financial
reports and accounting information, and that they meet operational and profitability targets. They
are implemented to assure the safe–guarding of assets as well as to detect fraud and any other errors.
As such, they provide the company with reasonable assurance that specific objectives will be
achieved.
2) The overall purpose of internal controls is to help a department achieve their goals by
establishing protocols, preventing fraud and theft, separating duties, organizing information,
reducing errors, protecting assets, making sure people adhere to policies and to ensure accurate
accounting records ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An internal auditing process would consist of a series of questions being asked and compared to the
criteria needed, thereafter conclusions would be drawn up and a plan put in place.
Examples: ( The process of internal auditing )
➢ Condition: What is the particular problem identified?
➢ Criteria: What is the standard that was not met? The standard may be a company policy or other
benchmark.
➢ Cause: Why did the problem occur?
➢ Consequence: What is the risk/negative outcome (or opportunity foregone) because of the
finding?
➢ Corrective action: What should management do about the finding? What have they agreed to do
and by when?
➢ Every month a small portion of money disappears and no one knows where and how this
happens. An internal auditor will follow a set process similar to the above one and put in place a
strategy or a new system in order to minimize the risks and to stop the problem
4) a) Preventive controls:
Stopping things from happening. They are designed to keep errors or irregularities from occurring in
the first place.
*E.g. Segregation of duties, safes, burglar bars or metal detectors.
Examples:
Installing metal detectors will allow you to monitor movement of stock. You will know every time
stock leaves the store when it hasn't been paid for and this will monitor and prevent theft.
Storing valuables in safes or enclosed secure areas also prevents theft.

Yardbird Analysis
Yardbird, a short story that was released in 2012 directed by Micheal Spiccia which is his only
public work. This short film is a very interesting piece that has small parts of horror entwined into a
supernatural/fantasy theme that is set in what can be perceived as reality. There are many different
themes that can be found within this short, like with power comes responsibility, but the one I find
most interesting is "You can't fix everything". "You can't fix everything" was first said by her
fatherly figure when Ruby is going to bed while look at what seems to be an old photo of some
kind, you can speculate that it was something to do with her mother or maybe even some old
relatives however there is no hard evidence of what the photo contains, all we can believe is that it
has to do with her directly. The reason we know that it has to do with her directly is because she is a
young girl who is living alone with her fatherly figure gets told by her fatherly figure that "you can't
fix everything", and he says this with a sour tone, as if he is affected and he is just trying to console
himself. Going on the idea that the photo was an old photo of Ruby and her family which was
broken for any reason, the line "you can't fix everything" fits perfectly because of what the dialogue
and the prop could be conveying which is that nobody has the power to fix everything. In this scene,
the director is further developing the idea of, when some things break they can never be fixed In

company through vertical and horizontal analysis. Vertical analysis is the proportional analysis of a
financial statement. Normally, vertical analysis is done with a financial statement over a period of
time. When using vertical analysis, a line item on a financial statement is listed as a percentage of
another item (Harrison, 2015). A horizontal analysis is the comparison of information or ratios over
a series of reporting periods. Horizontal analysis helps investors and analysts to control how a
company has grown over time. Analysts and investors could use horizontal analysis to compare a
company's growth rates in relation to its competitors and industry.
Accounts Receivable:
Starbucks' financial position can be figured out by studying their balance sheet. A financial item that
can be found on the balance sheet is accounts receivable. Accounts receivable refers to money owed
to a organization by its borrowers. Horizontal analysis can be used to assess an item on the balance
sheet. Starbucks' accounts receivable increased from $561.4 million in 2013, to $631 million in
2014. That is a 12% increase in just a year. Accounts receivable is categorized as an asset on the
balance sheet. In 2013 the accounts receivable was 4.8% of total assets. In 2014, the company saw a
5.8% increase in their total assets. Overall, the accounts receivable jumped up by 12% in 2014.
Starbucks allowance for uncollectable receivables is calculated based on histroalical experience,

Volkswagen Case Study
Being the second largest car manufacturer in the world, Volkswagen really dug themselves a deep
hole. According to Bocconi Students Investment Club, "The company was discovered cheating on
the emission tests by installing software that limits the harmful fumes produces but only while the
vehicle is being tested. Once on the road, the company's vehicles' emission levels exceed the norm
by 10–40 times." While reading the "Bocconi Students Investment Club" that you have provided for
us, it goes in depth about how this scandal was suppose to help Volkswagen become the first car
manufacturer in the world. Volkswagen ethically broke the law by installing these software systems
in their vehicles that lower the NOx levels in the engine of their vehicles ranging from 2009–2015.
According to BSIC, "At the core of this scandal are the so–called "defeat devices" installed by
Volkswagen on some 11 million cars worldwide. At the moment legal charges have been brought up
on roughly 482,000 diesel vehicles operating in the US under VW and Audi badges." This
investigation started to occur in 2015. According to BSIC "When the software dented that it was
being tested, it would change to an alternate engine configuration, lowering toxic NOx levels in
exchange for a drop in performance and fuel economy." Since this discussion about what
Volkswagen did, they have lost a lot of their business. Consumers are not going to want to buy
vehicles from this company any more because of how much money it would cost them to get their
car fixed. This dispute has hurt a lot of people in the process. For an example, it is hurting the
consumers because they have to get their vehicle fixed, the company itself because they are under
lawsuits and potential fines. According to BSIC "The serious implications for the firm are expected
to not only include costs arising from fines, lawsuits and recall costs, but also criminal and civil
chargers pursued against individuals directly responsible for the incident." By having all of these
lawsuits and recall costs it is going to cost Volkswagen a lot of money in the long run. According to
BSIC "Under the threat of a 18 billion potential fine, the negative reaction of the market has been

Taking a Look at Inventory Turnover
Inventory turnover is the measurement of the number of times inventory is sold or used in a time
period such as a year where measure the firm's operational efficiency in the management of its
assets. The equation for inventory turnover equals the Cost of goods sold divided by the average
inventory where average inventory equals beginning inventory plus the ending inventory and
divided by 2. Besides, inventory turnover is also known as stock turns. The formula for inventory
turnover is as follows:
Inventory Turnover = Cost of goods sold Average inventory
Average inventory = Beginning inventory + Ending inventory 2

Grocery Fixed Assets
Despite living in a low–cost residence, having a reduced grocery budget and only paying for basic
utilities such as electricity and water, expenses can feel overwhelming, especially if your household
has a lower–than–average income. This essay, however, argues that many people in this situation
have a better economy than they understand.
The first step to wrangling the household economy is to actually sit down and look it over to find
any discrepancies. Ideally, your static expenditures should consist of infrastructural ones such as
transport, phone and internet connection, and essentials like food, hygiene items, rent and utilities. If
the income is greater than the aforementioned expenditures, the rest of the capital should be well
appropriated to avoid wasting it away. The problem with this is that it can be hard to know exactly
what all your money actually goes into, for example habits like smoking cigarettes or eating candy
on a regular basis, which may not appear notably costly per purchase, will accumulate into a greater
cost over time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

obviously do not need. Selling these fixed assets will not only generate more money instantly, but

their assets. It provides a quick measure of the worthiness of the organization and so becomes easier
for organizations to prepare their final accounts as they are able to quickly estimate the value of
their assets. Well managed organizations are required to perform regular fixed asset audits. Tracking
and managing corporate assets and equipment is a challenge to most organizations especially when
there is a large volume of assets or when those assets move frequently between departments or

c. What were the difficulties experienced in using the manual system?

d. Did the users have enough skills to operate the system? e. Where and how would the asset
register be kept and updated? 1.6 JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY. The proposed study was
recommended as it was of paramount importance to organizations which had accepted and
undertook the information technology era into their businesses to have good and reliable ITAMS.
The previous excel spreadsheets which were used in recording assets were highly prone to errors
and presented a lot of paperwork, which required large storage space, and thus inappropriate and
inefficient for the organization to achieve optimum performance.
The researcher focused on managing IT assets only because past and existing manual systems had
too many loopholes which resulted in the organization losing valuable IT assets due to theft and or
abuse by employees. Unlike other tangible assets of the organization IT assets have a shorter life
span and often switch many hands within a short period of time hence difficult in most cases to trace
their whereabouts.
The proposed study would facilitate quick decision making and also reduce the amount of time
taken in locating computer hardware and software. Under the manual system it took a lot of time in
trying to locate and monitor IT assets in the organization. The study was also meant to reduce
operation costs in the IT department as the organization would now

This was because Company D had higher cash and short–term investment, which was 55.6% while

Beside that, Company D keep more stock which is 11.9% compare with Company C 4.3% because

The Strategy Of Risk Management
Banc One's overall strategy of risk management is to stay within a permissible limit of earnings
sensitivity. Based on the last meeting, it was decided that for 50 basis points increase (average over
a year) in the interest rates, the level of earnings change should not be more than 4%. Banc One also
used a balancing portfolio for asset–liability management, which consisted of investments in
conventional securities and derivatives with an underlying mandate to achieve a reasonable rate of
return, fulfill short term liquidity needs, manage interest rate exposure, and maintain a modest
regulatory capital obligation. Also, Banc One has recently shifted its focus to synthetic instruments
owing several advantages these new securities present.
Specifically, Banc One aims to be liability sensitive i.e. have a negative earnings sensitivity. This
means that the earnings are depressed in a period of interest rate increase. Having a controlled
exposure to longer term fixed rate assets exceeding shorter term floating rate liabilities, the bank can
earn the interest rate spread. This is because the yield curve is generally upward sloping, which
implies that longer term securities will have a higher yield compared to shorter term securities.
However, this leaves the bank exposed to interest rate risk when the yield curve has a large upward
shift (the interest income falls more than the interest expense, and the earnings decline). This can,
however, be controlled using investments and

The Significance Of Grit By Deborah Perkins Gough Essay
In The Significance of Grit by Deborah Perkins–Gough and Angela Duckworth who graduated from

for 11 years (Perkins–Gough pg.15). Furthermore, I would talk more about it. Another Article is
Brainology Transforming Students' Motivation to Learn by Carol S. Dweck. Something I know
from the top of my head is that Dweck is a Psychology Professor at Stanford University. This article
covers more about the research in fixed and growth mindset.
Duckworth explains people with grit are those who confront failure and don't give up easily. She did
research on the U.S Army to determine their grit. She realize, if the soldiers had a though of mind of
grit they showed good results in their military performance on summer camp. Also, there was a
fascinating research she had with taxi drivers relating to grit. Commonly, one would think that taxi
drivers make more money in a rainy day. But what she found out was that taxi drivers work less
hours in rainy days because they would make the sufficient money they needed for the day. In
similarity, she compare this research to talent and grit. One with talent will spent less time on
something so they stop immediately once they have proficient. In the other hand, someone with grit
will spend longer time and get more out of it.

Trowel Melt
If you want to fix the cracks in your asphalt driver just like the professionals do, you'll need to
purchase a few tools and set aside a day to fix your driveway. It will take some time and a small
investment in the right tools, but you will save on labor costs and you'll have the tools you need on
hand the next time your driveway needs fixed.
The Supplies & Equipment
In order to patch your asphalt driveway like a professional, you'll need to purchase melt–in filler.
Melt–in asphalt filler will not shrink after it is applied and will not cause additional cracks. This is a
construction grade product. Stay away from squeeze bottles and caulk style fillers; most of these
types of products are easy to apply, but shrink over time and cause the cracks you just fixed to

If it doesn't melt, turn up the torch just a little bit, and continue with the sweeping motion until it
starts to melt. The filler will go from looking like a white–ish substance to the black color you

is burning. If it does, you need to turn down your torch or hold it a couple of inches further back.
Cover It With A Trowel Patch
Finally, after the crack has cooled off for at least half an hour, you can apply the trowel patch to the
crack. You'll want to lay down a small amount of towel patch material and use the trowel to even
and smooth it out. This will ensure that the crack is completely filled and even.
The length of time this project will take depends on how many cracks you have in your driveway. If
you only have one crack, you should be able to complete this entire process in a couple of hours. If
you have multiple long cracks, you may need to dedicate an entire day to fixing your

In 2012 , an asset turnover ratio for Axiata is 0.41 means Axiata can produce $0.41 for every $1

Staple Comparison Essay
Long–term debt–to–equity is very similar to debt–to equity, but it reveals an important characteristic
of the company's debt make–up, that is how much of it is long–term. This is important because
long–term debt means long–term interest payments, and generally involves larger principles. This
can mean greater leverage, but it also indicates greater risk. Many banks are wary of companies that
hold too much debt, and especially the companies that hold too many long–term debt obligations.
Another downside from this perspective is that higher perceived risks by creditors generally can
lead to increased interest rate, making this debt even more expensive. Staples hold only about one
quarter of the long–term debt in relation to equity compared to Office Depot or Amazon. This gives
Staples several advantages because the firm is likely to be perceived as less risky. It will likely still
be easy for Staples to find financing for expansion or operations than for its major competitor. This
is due not only to its holding less long–term debt in relation to equity, but also because Staples
remains a profitable company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a good sign in that the company has always been able to meet its debt obligations, even in
years where it could not ultimately provide a return to its shareholders. Staples position is even
more favorable when compared to that of Office Depot, which had a negative times–interest–earned
ratio in three out of the five years analyzed. This makes Office Depot a far riskier investment for
any creditor that Staples, and a risky investment in general. As with long–term debt–to–equity
above, this would place Staples in a far better position than its main competitor to obtain funds to
expand. Staples has only in FY 2015 fallen behind Amazon again, but with both companies
maintaining positive ratios, this is not necessarily bad news for

Staples Inventory Ratio Analysis

  • 1. Staples Inventory Delayed Ratio The times–interest–earned ratio is used to show a company's ability to meet the current portion of its debt obligations. Having a negative times–interest–earned ratio is not desirable because it signals the inability of a company to meet its interest payments. Inability to meet interest payments is an alarming signal that a company is not doing well, and could even be headed towards default on debt or even bankruptcy. Staples had a positive times–interest–earned ratio in all five years, even in 2012 when the company had a net loss. This is a good sign in that the company has always been able to meet its debt obligations even in years where it could not ultimately provide a return to its shareholders. What is very important here is that Office Depot has a significantly better turnover rate in the last two years than does Staples. This represents a tremendous opportunity for Staples to find more efficient ways to utilize the facilities that it has to generate better returns, or to close inefficient facilities and cut down on expenses. Because Staples is in a generally better financial position than is Office Depot, it could likely replicate their success in this area if proper resources were devoted to the ... • 3. Performance Analysis : Performing Ratio Analysis In order to analyse how well a business is performing ratio analysis is used by accountants and many stakeholders. To do ratio analysis, figures from the profit and loss account and balance sheet are used to determine a business's profitability, solvency, liquidity and efficiency. Account ratios are formulas used to decide whether to lend money to companies. All banks are different and all ratios are a judgement made on the quality and likelihood of a return on investment by the bank or other creditors. Solvency ratios are used to determine how quickly a company can get hold of money, how quickly assets can become cash in order to pay for something urgent. Profitability is the ability of Rolls Royce to earn a profit. A profit is what is left of the revenue which a business generates after it pays all the expenses directly related to the generation of the revenue as producing a product, and other expenses related to the conduct of the business' activities. There are many different ways for a business to analyse profitability. The ratios that help with this include profitability ratio, gross margin, net operating ratio and return on asset ratio. Proposed changes to the current Economic Profit include: I. Leave the Working Capital Cost and CRV Depreciation Adjustment in the profit analysis II. Eliminate the Fixed–Asset Charge and OI&D III. Only apply New Product Development charges to new products Goals of these proposed changes: * Ensure product line managers are focused on improving the value of their product, not just on profit/loss numbers * Allow upper management to analyze product line performance on a level playing field * Provide divisional management with the unbiased authority to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CRV Depreciation Adjustment This adjustment accounts for the difference between the "current replacement value" and the historical depreciation value of assets. The purpose of the CRV adjustment is to assign replacement value to depreciating assets. As a result, the opportunity cost of these assets is deducted from a particular product line's profit. The challenge associated with this adjustment will be directly related to properly allocating a % of fixed assets to a particular product line. We will address the issue concerning the allocation of fixed assets below (Fixed–Asset Charge). Consequently, this is the same method used by the corporate financial department. Therefore, by including the CRV depreciation, corporate managers will be pleased that product line performance measures are factoring in this opportunity cost. Furthermore, product line managers must be weary of fixed asset costs because of the CRV depreciation adjustment's negative effect on economic profit. Fixed–Asset Charge Fixed Asset charges are difficult to estimate and allocate to a particular product line. Under the old Economic Profit system, many product lines could post losses due to large fixed cost allocations. When losses are associated with a product lines, managers naturally panic. Therefore, we believe that all fixed assets should be evaluated on an Operating Division ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Analysis Of Louise Erdrich 's ' The Red Convertible ' Mailk Sims Often times, an inanimate object can be as important and sometimes more important than the characters of the story. In Louise Erdrich 's "The Red Convertible," the car played the same important role as the characters did, but for different reasons. Two brothers, Lyman and Henry, had very little in common other than their blood. One day they decided to catch a ride to Winnipeg. The car was introduced while these two were doing some sightseeing in the city. They spotted the red Oldsmobile convertible. Lyman, the storyteller, almost made the car a living thing when he said, "There it was, parked, large as life. Really as if it were alive." (461) The brothers used all of the money they had, less some change for gas to get home, to buy the car. The car 's significance was the bond that it created between the brothers. The purchase of the vehicle brought these two together with a common interest: the car. Once the bond was formed, the brothers became inseparable, at least for a while. The boys spent the whole summer in the car. They explored new places; met new people and furthered the bond that the car had created. When they returned from their trip, Henry was sent to war. He left the car with Lyman. While Henry was gone, Lyman spent his time pampering and fixing the car. Lyman saw the car as an extension of Henry. Lyman used the car to maintain an emotional bond with his brother who was thousands of miles away. During the war, Henry was taken P.O.W. and spent time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the truck often had problems dad had to fix. I thought about it, remembering how dirty dad would be afterward. "No, I don't wanna be filthy," I called back, and that right there is when I realized how different I was from my father. Now thinking about it, both are physical build as well as mental were completely different. I was clean and liked science and math, while dad was always filthy and preferred working with his hands over science. The differences could not be more obvious, while dad worked outside fixing this, or building that. I would sit inside reading a book, both fictional and nonfictional. Obtaining all the information contained inside. Dad would often dive into a problem head on without much thought about it, while I, on the other hand, would examine a situation from all angles. Attempting to find the best solution. Another situation is physical. My father is built strong but short, around five six, with a shiny bald head. While I am weak, and skinny, but taller with long curly hair. Back when father had hair it was straight and black while mine is brown. My skin is always shiny white that can not hold a tan more than a few days. While dad has a dark tan almost always and he never burns. I was always a child of science and math, while dad did not care for such things. Back when I was in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not–for–profit entities are perfectly capable of purchasing assets and these assets are accounted for very similarly to assets purchased by a for–profit firm. Items that do not fall under these two categories have no value and should not be recognized. If the not–for–profit decides to accept these gifts, they will often classify the items as collections. • 15. term paper about fixed assets The fixed asset register is an accounting method used by businesses to identify the major resources they hold. Lindsey Lester explains what it is and how it should be used The reporting of fixed assets should comply with Financial Reporting Standard 15 (FRS 15). The aim of this reporting standard is to ensure that tangible fixed assets are accounted for on a consistent basis. It sets out the principles in making a decision as to whether a tangible fixed asset is stated at cost on a financial statement or at a revalued amount. The reducing balance method This is the other commonly used method. It is usually used where the asset is required to be written off at a higher value in the asset's infancy, usually when it has a very high usage. The amount of depreciation will reduce at a constant rate each year as the asset gets older. For instance – an asset was purchased for £3,250 (NBV) with a residual value of £702 at the end of three years. The rate of depreciation will be 40% annually: Book Value Accumulated Depreciation First year 3250 x 40% = 1300 1950 1300 Second year 1950 x 40% = 780 1170 2080 Third year 1170 x 40% = 468 702 2548 You may also find that your accountants will refer to an asset that is being considered for impairment, and this too should be covered in the depreciation policy

This short film is a very interesting piece that has small parts of horror entwined into a supernatural/fantasy theme that is set in what can be perceived as reality. There are many different themes that can be found within this short, like with power comes responsibility, but the one I find most interesting is "You can't fix everything". "You can't fix everything" was first said by her fatherly figure when Ruby is going to bed while look at what seems to be an old photo of some kind, you can speculate that it was something to do with her mother or maybe even some old relatives however there is no hard evidence of what the photo contains, all we can believe is that it has to do with her directly. The reason we know that it has to do with her directly is because she is a young girl who is living alone with her fatherly figure gets told by her fatherly figure that "you can't fix everything", and he says this with a sour tone, as if he is affected and he is just trying to console himself. Going on the idea that the photo was an old photo of Ruby and her family which was broken for any reason, the line "you can't fix everything" fits perfectly because of what the dialogue and the prop could be conveying which is that nobody has the power to fix everything. In this scene, the director is further developing the idea of, when some things break they can never be fixed In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While reading the "Bocconi Students Investment Club" that you have provided for us, it goes in depth about how this scandal was suppose to help Volkswagen become the first car manufacturer in the world. Volkswagen ethically broke the law by installing these software systems in their vehicles that lower the NOx levels in the engine of their vehicles ranging from 2009–2015. According to BSIC, "At the core of this scandal are the so–called "defeat devices" installed by Volkswagen on some 11 million cars worldwide. At the moment legal charges have been brought up on roughly 482,000 diesel vehicles operating in the US under VW and Audi badges." This investigation started to occur in 2015. According to BSIC "When the software dented that it was being tested, it would change to an alternate engine configuration, lowering toxic NOx levels in exchange for a drop in performance and fuel economy." Since this discussion about what Volkswagen did, they have lost a lot of their business. Consumers are not going to want to buy vehicles from this company any more because of how much money it would cost them to get their car fixed. This dispute has hurt a lot of people in the process. For an example, it is hurting the consumers because they have to get their vehicle fixed, the company itself because they are under lawsuits and potential fines. According to BSIC "The serious implications for the firm are expected to not only include costs arising from fines, lawsuits and recall costs, but also criminal and civil chargers pursued against individuals directly responsible for the incident." Grocery Fixed Assets Despite living in a low–cost residence, having a reduced grocery budget and only paying for basic utilities such as electricity and water, expenses can feel overwhelming, especially if your household has a lower–than–average income. This essay, however, argues that many people in this situation have a better economy than they understand. • 34. The Strategy Of Risk Management Banc One's overall strategy of risk management is to stay within a permissible limit of earnings sensitivity. Based on the last meeting, it was decided that for 50 basis points increase (average over a year) in the interest rates, the level of earnings change should not be more than 4%. Banc One also used a balancing portfolio for asset–liability management, which consisted of investments in conventional securities and derivatives with an underlying mandate to achieve a reasonable rate of return, fulfill short term liquidity needs, manage interest rate exposure, and maintain a modest regulatory capital obligation. Also, Banc One has recently shifted its focus to synthetic instruments owing several advantages these new securities present. Specifically, Banc One aims to be liability sensitive i.e. have a negative earnings sensitivity. This means that the earnings are depressed in a period of interest rate increase. Having a controlled exposure to longer term fixed rate assets exceeding shorter term floating rate liabilities, the bank can earn the interest rate spread. This is because the yield curve is generally upward sloping, which implies that longer term securities will have a higher yield compared to shorter term securities. However, this leaves the bank exposed to interest rate risk when the yield curve has a large upward shift (the interest income falls more than the interest expense, and the earnings decline). This can, however, be controlled using investments and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She realize, if the soldiers had a though of mind of grit they showed good results in their military performance on summer camp. Also, there was a fascinating research she had with taxi drivers relating to grit. Commonly, one would think that taxi drivers make more money in a rainy day. But what she found out was that taxi drivers work less hours in rainy days because they would make the sufficient money they needed for the day. In similarity, she compare this research to talent and grit. One with talent will spent less time on something so they stop immediately once they have proficient. In the other hand, someone with grit will spend longer time and get more out of it. My first year of college I was devastated because I didn't pass my math class due to procrastination. Staple Comparison Essay Long–term debt–to–equity is very similar to debt–to equity, but it reveals an important characteristic of the company's debt make–up, that is how much of it is long–term. This is important because long–term debt means long–term interest payments, and generally involves larger principles. This can mean greater leverage, but it also indicates greater risk. Many banks are wary of companies that hold too much debt, and especially the companies that hold too many long–term debt obligations. Another downside from this perspective is that higher perceived risks by creditors generally can lead to increased interest rate, making this debt even more expensive. Staples hold only about one quarter of the long–term debt in relation to equity compared to Office Depot or Amazon. This gives Staples several advantages because the firm is likely to be perceived as less risky.
