The Kingdom of Israel <ul><li>Hebrews were an ancient people of the Middle East </li></ul><ul><ul><li>They believed they were God’s chosen ones on Earth </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Abraham is the “father” of Judaism </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>He made a covenant with Yahweh, Jewish God, that promised the Jews the land of Canaan, or Palestine </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>Became known as the “Jews” (Judea, name of their land) </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Formed the Kingdom of Israel in the Fertile Crescent (1025 BC) </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Kings David and Solomon turned Jerusalem, the capital, into a thriving city </li></ul></ul><ul><li>After King Solomon, the Jewish people were ruled by a number of foreign nations </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The Romans took over Israel and forced the Jews out of “Palestine” (the holy land) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Diaspora </li></ul></ul></ul>The Kingdom of Israel
