2. WHAT IS PDHPE?
PDHPE is an acronym which stands for : Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.
According to the Primary School Syllabus (2006):
“PDHPE encourages students to make informed decisions related to health and physical activity and develop positive
attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle”
•
As a PDHPE teacher I will be responsible for setting good examples for students and creating the foundations for them to
lead healthy and active lifestyles in their futures.
3. HAVE FUN WITH FRIENDS!
• PDHPE is not only educational, it promotes social skills in
students and builds on life skills. It teaches students the benefits
of working as part of a team towards a common goal.
• It is not only about sport, it also creates awareness about the
importance of eating healthy and staying active for good health.
4. LEARNING FOR LIFE
• PDHPE educates students across the following subject areas:
• Personal Health Choices
• Interpersonal Relationships
• Nutrition
• Bullying and stereotype issues
• Road Safety
• Peers, Groups and families
• Communication
5. A VERSATILE SUBJECT
• Approximately 30 minutes out of each day should be dedicated
to physical activity. PDHPE ensures that students develop this
habit from a young age and can take the habit away from the
classroom and apply it to everyday life.
• Play is an important aspect of childhood and is a good way to
wind down after a long day of lessons in the classroom. Other
KLA’s can be merged within the PDHPE syllabus to create an
alternative learning experience.
• PDHPE provides guidance to students. The syllabus is designed
to help students understand the importance of good health and
the changes associated with growing up and becoming young
adults.
