3. TRADITIONAL MAORI ART
Contained information about spiritual matters, ancestry,
and other cultural topics.
Consists four forms:carving, tattooing, weaving and
painting.
Dominating colors: red, black, white.
4. PAKEHA ART
Landscape art.
Includes sculptures.
Artists worked in two dimensions.
Took place in 19th century.
5. ART ON 20TH CENTURY
Most highly regarded 20th-century artist was Colin
McCahon.
Pahekas created a new distinctive New Zealand
style of art.
Rita Angus continued work on landscapes, with
attempts made to depict New Zealand's harsh light.
6. ART ORGANIZATIONS
The National Art Gallery of New Zealand was
established in 1936.
New Zealand is the national agency for the
development of the arts in New Zealand.
Largest art institution is the Auckland Art Gallery.

Known for his portrayal of Maori dignitaries
1935 Goldie was awarded
the King George V Silver Jubilee Medal
