4. The respiratory system is a biological system
consisting of specific organs and structures used
for the process of respiration in an organism.
INTRODUCTION
6. The respiratory system extends from the nostrils to
the lungs
The air enters into the respiratory track through
NOSTRILS .
The minute hairs and mucus in the nostrils prevent
the entry of dust and harmful germs.
Nostrils are followed by the NASAL CANAL that
opens into pharynx.
7. The trachea and oesophagus start from the
PHARYNX.
The EPIGLOTIS seen above the larynx prevents
food particle from entering the trachea.
The TRACHEA is made up of incomplete C-shaped
cartilaginous rings.
The trachea divides into two branches
calledBRONCHI.
.
8. The bronchi that enter the lungs divide into
smaller branches called BRONCHIOLES.
Each bronchioles enters into a set of ALVEOLI.
The alveoli increase the surface area of the lungs.
Lungs are protected in a double layered
membrane called PLEURA
