So far they have opened 9 Commercial accounts which resulted deposits over $5 MM. I also worked
together with my financial planner which resulted the sale of $900,000 in September. I always keep
an open mind and open to changes. Throughout the year, we have gone through many changes and I
have adapted to it. Opening some business accounts and completing the new Certificate of Authority
has been a challenge for me and my new team due to the complexities involved in the paperwork. I
worked closely with my new team by explaining the importance of proper documentation to avoid
any bank loss. I can see that we are adapting to the requirements of our verification department and
opening more of these accounts with fewer errors. 2017 has been a mixed year for Needham Heights
branch with some recognitions, challenges, staff turnover and opportunities. We were recognized as
top branch of the quarter based on our score card in Q 2 and achieved all our sales goals in all 3
quarters. I did the regular coaching or training with my staff throughout the year to enhance their
product knowledge and leadership skills to make them more confident and successful when dealing
with our consumers. This resulted in increased home equity applications and cash management

Questions & Problems Set 5
Spring 2013
1. Explain why commercial banks are regulated and describe the major pieces of legislation enacted
to prevent bank failures.
Financial institutions are regulated because they provide products and services that the economy
needs to function efficiently. Also they function in an environment where there is a great deal of
asymmetric information, so they help in the screening process. Another reason why banks are
regulated is to limit predatory lending practices, for example charging excessively high interest rates
or imposing unreasonable conditions and penalties. A final reason why financial ... Show more

The greater proportion of capital to total funds, the greater the protection to depositors. Banks
maintain much lower capital levels than other businesses; currently bank capital accounts for 10% of
total funds. Bankers prefer to use high amounts of leverage because they understand the role of
leverage in increasing ROE. Banks believe that long term profit maximization can be best achieved
if their banks are highly leveraged. Regulators are more concerned about the risk of bank failure,
rather than the profits of the individual banks; their concern is protecting the economy from
widespread bank distress.
4. What are the major benefits to banks of securitization?
There are many different benefits of securitization; first by selling rather than holding loans, banks
reduce the amount of assets and liabilities. By reducing assets and liabilities it reduces reserve
requirements, capital requirements, and deposit insurance premiums. Second securitization provides
a source of funding loans that is less expensive than other sources. Finally, banks are able to
generate fees from the securitization process; these include origination, loan–servicing, and
underwriting fees.
5. List and define the various off–balance–sheet activities of banks.
Off–balance–sheet activities generate fee income for banks, however they differ from other fee
based activities because they are representing either contingent assets or contingent liabilities.

1.7 Hypothesis Statement On Consumer Consumption
1.7 HYPOTHESIS STATEMENT According to Uma Sekaran (2003), a theory can be specified as a
logical conjectured relationship between two or more variables expressed in the course of a testable
assertion.
This work applies the null and alternate hypothesis format. The null statements stand for no
significant relationship, whereas alternately expressed as significant relationship. Hypothesis for this
research as follows:
Hypothesis 1

The data supplied by the researcher could help the foundation to remain concerned about the
economic conditions affecting the inflation rate and rate of return. 1.9.3 Consumer This report also
gives some information to the consumer. As we already know, saving is important for future use. We
did not know what will take place in the future, so saving is quite important matters that should be
concerned specially by consumer. This research will give some information to the consumer about
what element that really influences their saving behavior.
1.9.4 Future Researcher This research also can pass info to another researcher who wants to conduct
research regarding this area of interest and likewise for other researcher whom want to foster this
research in the future. This study can turn over some information and statistics regarding saving
behavior in Malaysia.

Understanding the Financial Market and Globalization in India
Abstract
The research paper is a brief study that explains the different factors that play a key role in growth
international financial market in India. We also took a brief look at what the RBI (Reserve Bank of
India) and their role in the growth of India's economy.
The study does not talk about the risks of investing in India at this time nor does it point out the
benefits. The purpose of this paper is to show the growth of India's economy after their government
made some drastic reform changes. Changes that needed to be made after the country had persistent
problems, such as a lack of financial inclusion, a glacial pace of innovation, the growth of an
unregulated shadow financial system, numerous Ponzi schemes and high inflation.
Introduction
The development of a county's economy is largely influence by their financial market and their
ability to trade with other countries. In the recent past India's rapidly growing domestic market has
made them an attractive country for investors to invest. Although India is still considered an
"emerging country" a term which is commonly used to refer to countries that do not enjoy the same
level of economic security, industrialization and growth as developed countries. The

Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In an economy, people indulge in economic activity to support their
consumption requirements. Savings arise from deferred consumption, to be invested, in anticipation
of future returns. Investments could be made into financial assets, like stocks, bonds, and similar
instruments or into real assets, like houses, land, or commodities. The aim of Portfolio Manager is to
provide a brief overview of three aspects of investment: * The various options available to an
investor in financial instruments. * The tools used in modern finance to optimally manage the
financial portfolio. * Lastly the professional asset management industry as it exists today. Returns
more often than not differ across their risk profiles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, income, like age, influences the choice between dividend–paying or interest–paying
investments, and those whose primary return is in the form of capital gains. You may prefer income–
producing investments if you need to supplement or replace earned income. Your income level also
affects your investment choices because it determines your tax rate. Low–tax–bracket investors –
generally those whose income is lower – will be more likely to prefer income–producing
investments. High–tax–rate investors are more likely to choose tax–deferred or tax–sheltered assets.
Income also may influence risk preferences. High income investors may be more willing to choose
higher risk investments since they can more easily contribute additional investment capital should
they sustain losses. Taxes Your after–tax return is the return that matters. You should fully inform
your investment advisor about your tax rate and any special tax circumstances that might apply to
you. This will determine whether you should seek tax exempt or tax–sheltered securities as a part of
your portfolio. The appropriateness of income or capital gains should be discussed in the context of
your personal situation, so you may want your investment advisor to consult with your accountant.
Occupation Your occupation also can affect portfolio objectives. Some professions produce more
stable incomes

In case the lockerhirer has some genuine reasons as in the case of NRIs or persons who are out of
town due to a transferable job etc., banks may allow the locker hirer to continue with the locker. In
case the locker–hirer does not respond nor operate the locker, banks should consider opening the
lockers after giving due notice to him. In this context, banks should incorporate a clause in the
locker agreement that in case the locker remains unoperated for more than one year, the bank would
have the right to cancel the allotment of the locker and open the locker, even if the rent is paid
regularly. (iii) Banks should have clear procedure drawn up in consultation with their legal advisers
for breaking open the lockers and taking stock of inventory. 3. Access to the safe deposit lockers /

Short Term Investment Essay
Advantages of short term investment
The literal meaning of the term "short term investment" is an individual investor can afford to invest
a certain amount of surplus cash in the share market or any others that provide opportunity in short
term investing in order to earn interest within a reasonable short amount of period. There is
undeniable that short term investment includes a lot of advantages that will bring to investors. Here
are some of the benefits:
1. High liquidity
Short term investment usually provides a high liquidity or flexibility. Basically, short term will be
between 3 months to 1 year. This can be considered a biggest advantages of short term investment as
the framework is short, which mean investors do not need to tie up with their money up to an
extended period of time with this type of investment. Furthermore, a bank's saving account always
offer a higher liquidity, investors can withdraw our money at any time or anywhere as long as there

fluctuation in a short period of time but another benefit is that the investor might get an enormous
returns from the short term investment which usually from the share market. Therefore, there is
many investors decide to deal with this type of investment, so we can often and always realize a

growth in the future for the company project. Another benefit will be from those saving account,
fixed deposit and certificate of deposit which the interest rate are fixed, so that the investor may earn

Saving For The Future : Investing Money
Saving for the Future Have you ever invested money in stocks or maybe received savings bonds as a
gift? Those are just two different types of investments that could potentially help with future money
plans. It is very smart to start investing money or looking at other ways to invest at a young age to
prepare for the future. There are many different types of investments that individuals can use to
achieve future savings and investment goals. According to www.fool.com, If you were to invest one
hundred dollars as a fifteen–year–old young adult and then receive a ten percent investment rate
every year on that initial investment, at the age of sixty–five years old you would turn that one
hundred dollars into $1,083. Investing your money rather than saving or spending it is smarter and
can help you with your future plans. Investing money rather than saving it or possibly spending it on
items that are only wants rather than needs is a smarter choice. It is a very uncommon occurrence
that over an extended period of time investment values actually decrease instead of increasing. It is
fairly simple to invest money. According to www.fidelity.com, the best way to save money for
retirement is to invest in the stock market. Over time the gains and increased earnings on stock
investments outweigh the losses that may occur with these stock investments. The key to these
investments is to not panic when the stock market falls and keep your money working for you.

If you want to buy a specific instrument, you can do it directly to get it from the lowest available ask
price (offer). This is an "aggressive" entry, which violates market liquidity and is associated with a
large fee (money fees). On the other hand, you can place your own bid in the order book, then it will
be triggered by another trader, who will sell you his property. In this case, you are providing
monetization in the market and pay lower fees (mechanic fees). Overall, the fees paid by Kraken are
line with offerings by other exchanges. No minimum deposit level is specified by the crank.
Although it is not uncommon on CryptoVerese, Forex Brokers (which allows some Bitcoin trading)
mention it on their websites. As an example, IG industrial leaders are proud they claim they do not
need a minimum deposit. Leverage is only offered for some machines in Kraken Exchange. It
changes from 1: 2 to 1: 5. These levels may seem less if you use forex trading, where many brokers
offer 1: 500 in leverage. That said, they even offer lower levels for crypto currency trading. For
example, FCA–controlled industrial defense at HYCM currently offers 1:10 for Bitcoin trading.
Kraken leverages a fee charge for leverage trading. It varies from 0.01% to 0.02% depending on the
device and is applied every four hours. You will not have a hassle if you choose to trade Bitcoin
with a Forex broker. Remember there is a big difference between the services

BANKING INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
History:
Banking in India has its origin as carry as the Vedic period. It is believed that the transition from
money lending to banking must have occurred even before Manu, the great Hindu jurist, who has
devoted a section of his work to deposits and advances and laid down rules relating to the interest.
During the mogul period, the indigenous bankers played a very important role in lending money and
financing foreign trade and commerce. During the days of East India Company, it was to turn of the

Investing Smart
In the United States, a society plagued by capitalism, investing has become a way of life. To most
Americans it begins with opening a savings account and slowly allowing that money to grow
through the compounded interest rate over the years. While it may not seem like a big step in
generating more income, nonetheless, this is a positive movement in the market of investments.
With the many types of investments available knowing which are reliable, or safe, or yield good
returns, are just some of the questions on the investors mind. Within each asset class there are
investments to suit different kinds of risk, duration, returns and liquidity.
Bank savings account, as stated before, is the simplest kind of short–term investment. The ... Show

When the market interest rate declines this makes bonds more valuable and visa–versa when the
interest rate increases the bond becomes less valuable. Since the market price is unpredictable this
makes long–term bonds more risky. Since the long–term bonds are more risky they produce on
average higher returns.
Investment in shares of corporate stock is also very popular that can produce a great amount of
profit. By investing in shares of a firm listed on a stock exchange, the investor owns part of the
company and also gets the right to share in the future income of the company. Returns on stock
come in two ways; first, dividends are paid out of the profit accumulated by the company over a
year. Secondly, the investor can sell his or her shares of stock for more than originally paid. Gains
may reflect that the company over time has grown or improved or that the investment society sees
future prospects. But then capital losses can also occur. The price of shares listed for a company can
vary from day to day. On a given day some shares may go up in value and some may go down in
vale, depending on how investors view the prospects of each company. Also rises and falls in
economic confidence or changes in a particular industry may cause the value of stocks to rise or
either fall. There are ranges of factors, which influence stock prices on a daily basis stocks cannot be
accurately predicted. Shares of stocks are riskier than

Different Forms of Investment
Good morning everyone. I have been asked to find the best investments for my 18 year old friend
who has just received 150 thousand dollars. There are many different ways of investing money. The
five most common ways to invest are: Term deposits, Managed Funds, shares, property and
superannuation. According to can star: A term deposit is a cash investment held at a financial
institution for an agreed rate of interest over a fixed amount of time. If the investor wishes to take
the money out of the account they will be charged a large fee. Another form of Investment is
managed funds. According to colonial first state a managed fund is a professionally managed
investment portfolio that individual investors can buy into, purchasing 'units' rather than shares.
Shares are small parts of businesses sold on the stock market. The value can go up or down. Buying
a property is a way of investing. As the prices of houses rise and fall so does the value of your
house. The fifth way of investing is through Superannuation. Superannuation according to
Investapedia are Funds deposited in a superannuation account growing typically without any tax
implications until retirement or withdrawal These five ways of investing are not all suited to my
friend. She is 18 and doesn't have a proper job therefore she will not be able to get superannuation.
As she only has 150 000 she will not have enough for a house. This leaves term deposits, shares and
managed funds. These are the 3 best ways of

SOLVING TIME VALUE OF MONEY PROBLEMS
I. Single (Annual) Compounding Period Examples
A. Future Value (FV) of a Single Current Lump Sum Received One Period Hence FV = PV(1+i) |
PV: current (or present) value | | i: a given interest rate (or rate of return) |
(If the tables are used, this is the related formula: FV = PV * FVIF Equation 2 in the Week 1
Lecture)
Example: You place $100 today in a bank deposit account that pays 10% annual interest. In other
words, interest on your $100 worth of principal is paid once a year and will be received one year
from today. What will your deposit account be a year from today?
Algebraically, the relationship is:
FV = $100(1.1) = $110
Using Excel, try entering the following formula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Algebraically:
PV = $100/[1 + .1/2)]2x1 = $100/[1 + .1/2)]2 = $90.70
Using Excel, entering the following formula in a single spreadsheet cell will result in a value of
90.70: =100/(1+(.1/2))^2
Now, let's extend the process just described into a multi–period context. If you are to amass $100
five years from today, you wish to know the amount of funds you would need to place in a bank
account today. The account pays 10% annual interest, with this interest compounded semi–annually.
Algebraically:
PV = $100/[1 + .1/2)]2x5 = $100/[1 + .1/2)]10 = $61.39
Using Excel, entering the following formula in a single spreadsheet cell will result in a value of
61.39: =100/(1+(.1/2))^10
Now, let's consider the future value counterpart of multiple compounding within a given period. The
basis for this calculation involves amending the relationship previously identified. The future value
of a single current lump sum one period hence is: FV = PV[1+ (i/n)]ny ; where n equals the number
of compounding periods during the year and y equals the number of years. For a single year, y = 1.
Suppose you want to know how much you will have in one year if today you place $100 in a bank
deposit account that pays 10% annual interest, with interest compounded on a quarterly basis. In this
case:
FV = $100[1+ (.1/4)]4x1 = $100[1+

During the economic crisis this was some people's only and best line of defense against the loss of
their income or investments.
Emergencies are part of life. Being prepared could make all the difference.
What is an emergency fund?

job layoff, or other major expenses.

Worst case is that you will be unable to borrow at all and could fall prey to unscrupulous loan sharks
or be unable to receive help when needed.
Benefits of having emergency savings
You are less likely to make bad financial decisions. I am sure no one wants to let the lack of money
cause them to make bad decisions. No knee–jerk reactions required if funds are set in reserve. Read
about finances, save, then invest. When you know better you do better.
Less stress is a huge benefit. High stress can trigger all types of health problems from headaches to
heart disease. An emergency fund can help alleviate stressors as these.
Being able to help others. You can now volunteer, donate, or help family and friends when people
are in need. Helping others makes you feel good too. This is also a stress reliever. How much should
you have in an emergency savings?
I recommend 3–12 months' worth of expenses. I have a preference for 8 months because when I lost
my job during the recession it took me that long to land a new job.
You should start with a specific goal in mind such as $500 and continue saving from there.
NerdWallet columnist, Liz Weston says $500 is a good place to start, will get you out of most
predicaments, and usually keep you out of the hole.
If you use direct deposit and automatically transfer $10 per week into a savings account, you can

The History And Future Of The Federal Deposit Insurance...
Introduction Government departments are instrumental to a flourishing and secure economy. They
are in place to serve their constituents and ought to keep that in mind. The Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation (FDIC) fits this well and is in place to ensure that bank users are protected in
instances of economic downturn and that their money is insured. In this way, regulation is extremely
necessary to ensure a stable economy in instances of financial instability. To completely understand
the FDIC, it is important to understand why and how it was created, its history, major
responsibilities and who the leaders are.
FDIC Creation and History

There was no federal legislation that forced banks to be insured, but some states required it. In 2007,
the mortgage market problems caused the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression. In
similar fashion, many banks failed. This again caused depositors to withdraw their money from
banks and the FDIC stripped Washington Mutual Bank of its banking subsidiary. By 2011, President
Obama issued the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to raise the FDIC
deposit insurance to $250,000 per account (History.com Staff, 2017).
Major Responsibilities The main role of the FDIC is to prevent the ridiculous withdrawals that
occurred during the Great Depression and the Great Recession. Prior to the FDIC, there was no form
of insurance for banks and no "money back guarantee" besides the bank's stability. Since almost all
banks are FDIC insured, customers have no need to panic even if the bank starts to fail because the
FDIC will cover up to $250,000 per account, which is sufficient for most customers. With this, there
should be no more panicking withdrawals and banks should, hopefully, be able to solve their
problems in a more controlled environment. The FDIC covers money market accounts, savings
accounts, checking accounts and Certificates of Deposit (CDs). It also covers some trust and

Yu Ebao 's Advantages Of Users
Yu EBao's advantages to users:
1. High profitability and high liquidity
Compared with traditional financial products, Yu EBao has a higher interest rate than deposit
interest rate and a more convenient transaction process than fund, providing users a good
performance with high profitability and high liquidity. The interest rate of Yu EBao generally
fluctuates between 4% to 7% since its launch, much higher than current deposit interest rate of
0.35% , even the fixed–term interest rate of 3.25% (one year), which obviously is very attractive to
investors. On the other hand, it usually takes about two days to redeem money from other kinds of

3. No restrictions on minimum purchase amount
The principle of no restrictions on minimum purchase amount adopted by Yu EBao contributes to
the concentration of more fragmented and idle money in society, enhances the utilization of social
capital, at the same time provides clients a more convenient banking services. On the other hand,
this covenant–lite investment is also beneficial to enlighten customers who have never been
involved in financial services with basic finance and investment ideas, which is playing an
important role in establishing a correct and acute sense for investment and financing in the whole
society.
Yu EBao's advantages to financial market:
Firstly, the most significant advantage of Internet finance product is to promote interest rate
liberation. Previously, China's financial activities are highly controlled by government. However,
with the further development of market economy, China is regularly deregulating the financial
market. Interest rate liberation in financial market is the key step in the process of transformation to
full market economy. Interest rate liberation means that according to the supply and demand of fund,
its price is decided by financial market subjects including financial institutions, enterprises and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Binary Options Demo Account
correctrade.com – What is a binary options demo account? – August 3rd, 2016
Headline: What is a binary options demo account?
Binary options trading is fairly straightforward and even a newbie can learn it in a short time.
However, owing to general volatility of the financial markets, it's risky for an inexperienced trader
to make a substantial amount of deposit and start trading for real. For that reason, many platforms
have a binary options demo account in place in order to provide the traders a risk–free environment
for trading. A demo account is indispensable for a new trader as it requires no upfront commitment.

Thus, when they start trading for real, they are well–prepared and quickly adapt to the constantly
changing environment of the financial markets.
Disadvantages of a demo account
Although a demo account is indispensable for the traders, it has a few disadvantages as well.
Taking unnecessary risks – A demo account comes with a large amount of practice money, even up
to $100,000. Naturally, this tends to encourage a trader to take some unnecessary risks which he
would totally avoid if it was his actual investment. The risk taking behaviour develops into a habit
and can lead to the depletion of an entire trading account as soon as the trader begins trading for
real.
Unrealistic expectations – Even if a trader executes a series of successful trades using a binary
options demo account, he might not be able to replicate the same level of success in a real account.
Markets and asset trends change constantly because various macroeconomic and political factors are
at play. Therefore, placing successful trades require careful and constant analysis of the trends over

Reflection Of Fortress Bank
This summer, I had the pleasure of interning at Fortress Bank, previously known as First State Bank
of Illinois, at the branch in Monmouth Illinois. The internship surrounded topics that correlated with
my international business degree. I gained first hand experience with everything from financial
regulations to loans. It was wonderful to be able to take concepts outside of the classroom and see
how they are applicable within the international business world, specifically the world of banking.
The company Fortress Bank, previously known as First State Bank of Illinois 10 branches. Branches
are located in Monmouth, Macomb, LaHarpe, Peoria, Carthage, Hamilton, Pekin, Blandinsville,
Colusa, and Bettendorf. The company has been privately owned since its inception in 1904. The
bank recently underwent monumental rebranding as the name of the bank changed in order to allow
for the new Bettendorf branch opening in early 2018 in Eastern Iowa. The name First State Bank
simply was not going to be applicable to future Iowan customers. The name change was purely
cosmetic and has had no change on any other aspects of the business. Everything from the bank's
routing number to phone number has stayed the same. Customers will simply be receiving updated
checks and debit cards with the name Fortress Bank when they run out of checks or their debit cards
expire. Until then, everything with the name First State Bank of Illinois will still be applicable. The

Under what circumstances might the Fed want to shrink (contract) the money supply? Be sure to
relate your answer to the resulting effect on the Aggregate Demand/Aggregate Supply model.
The main reason why the Fed wants to shrink the money supply is to achieve their policy goals.
They simply want to alter the money supply. This is achieved through raising the federal discount
rate, reducing the monetary base through open market operations, and increasing reserve
requirements. The Fed is likely to decrease the money supply during times of high output and high
inflation. The reason is that this gives the Fed opportunity to keep inflation in check without doing
much harm to output.

digitally. This makes transferring money across border a lot easier, which means money from illegal
sources (such as drug money) can be easily "transmitted" out of the country.
Measurements of money
Money is considered an important determinant of the condition of the economy of a country. In the
eye of the federal government, there is a broader measure of what money is in the U.S and in other
parts of the world imply.
There are 3 general measures of money used by the U.S. government (or more specifically the
Federal Reserve System): M1, M2 and M3. These are often referred to in the context of inflation,
recession and interest rate changes.
I'm sure it sounds familiar. Allan Greenspan's, the US Treasury Secretary's, announcements on
changes in the Fed interest rate during the last two years is now well known felt even in India.
(i) M1
M1 is the narrowest measure of money. It includes the following items:

interest bearing checking accounts are NOW (negotiable order of withdrawal), ATS (automatic

The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange
A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money 's three primary economic
functions.
First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to negotiate the exchange
of goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter system 's wastefulness like the dependence
on the occurrence of a coincidence of wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable
purchasing power in order for it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible,
transportable, recognizable, have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of
preservation, high market value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to
counterfeiting. The most famous medium of exchange back then was gold since it was dormant.
Even small amounts of gold had considerable value which made gold user–friendly. Men cherished
gold because it also had a constant value due to its special physical and chemical properties.
The standard numerical unit of measuring goods and services ' market value is simply known as unit
of account. It is mandatory for forming commercial agreements. In order for money to function as a
unit of account, it must be divisible into smaller units without a loss of value, fungible, and have a
specific weight, measure or size in order to be verifiable countable.
Lastly, money must be able to be reliably stored, saved and retrieved in order for it to function as a
store of value. Likewise, it must be usable as a medium of

How Did The New Deal Save The Usa Capitalism
The New Deal: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
After the tragic Stock Market Crash of 1933, America had plunged into a deep depression. Over
9,000 banks nationwide were closing their doors. After the Stock Market Crash, President Herbert
Hoover was in office working ceaselessly to fix what was left of the economy. However, his effort
did not seem to be enough. In the election of 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt won by a landslide.
Roosevelt stated, "This nation asks for action and action now," and he did just that.(Barbour, 82) He

in Bank Deposit One of the easiest ways to start investing is to deposit money in banks. It can be
said that banks are ideally places where basic requirements of investors such as security, ability to
withdraw whenever they want, and a reasonable return on their money, are fulfilled (Rowlatt &
Davenport, 1966). Bank is a financial organization which is classified as one of depository
institutions. It raises funds to do its ventures (Agapie et al., 2010). Bank, licensed from the
government, provides many financial services such as payment services, lending service, insurance

investors have to deposit sum of their money in bank account that provides competitive earnings.

Stashing Your Cash: Video Analysis
After watching the video on Stashing Your Cash, the consumers' confidence does play a huge role in
the economy. In this essay, it will show you why the consumers are important role, why they are

do not think that we as individuals should be taking money out of banks, having a stash at home for

Consumer confidence is a measure of how the consumers are felling about the current and future

consumers are not purchasing big ticket items like they have in the past decades. Look at all the

The Value Of The Fiat Money
1) People can lose faith in money because if the value becomes questionable, so will the acceptance
of it. Economists believe that the better the fiat money serves as a store of value, the more
acceptable it is. This statement basically means that since fiat money is not backed by anything of
value, its not as easily accepted. Over time, people gradually come to accept the fiat money because
they believe others will accept it also.
2) When the value of money was based on its gold content, new discoveries of gold were followed
by periods of inflation because as the surplus of gold went up, so did the supply of money. When the
supply of money surpasses its equilibrium, we get inflation.
3) A depository institution is a financial institutions such as a savings or commercial bank or credit
union that allows customers to deposit monies. They act as intermediates between borrowers and
savers by bringing together both sides of the money market. They gather amounts from savers and
repackage the funds in to amounts desired by the borrowers. They assume the liability and basically
reduce the transaction costs of channeling savings to creditworthy borrowers.
4) The main powers and responsibilities of the Federal Reserve System are providing financial
services to depository institutions, the U.S. government, and foreign central banks, including
playing a major role in clearing checks, processing electronic payments, and distributing coin and
paper money to the nation 's banks,

Estrada vs Sandiganbayan
SECRECY OF BANK DEPOSITS LAW PEOPLE OF THE PHILIPPINES vs. JOSEPH ESTRADA
AND SANDIGANBAYAN I. Problem Whether the Sandiganbayan erred in holding that the use of
alias by respondent Estrada was not public, was allowable under banking rules, and was an
exception to illegal use of alias punishable under CA 142; in limiting the coverage of the amended
Information in Criminal Case 26565; and in departing from its earlier final finding on the non–
applicability of Ursua v. Court of Appeals II. Objectives 1) To determine if the use of Estrada's alias
violates CA No. 142.and violates the Bank Secrecy Law or RA 1405. 2) To be able to identify the
legal effects and remedies in using of aliases. 3) To be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
November 17, 2003– the Sandiganbayan denied the Consolidated Comment/Opposition motions.
After the People rested in all three cases, the defense moved to be allowed to file a demurrer to
evidence in these cases. On March 10, 2004 – in a joint resolution of Sandiganbayan they granted
the defense leave to file demurrers in Crim. Case Nos. 26565 (illegal use of alias) and 26905
(perjury). Demurrers to Evidence for Crim. Case Nos. 26565 and 26905 – was filed separately by
Estrada. Estrada's demurrer to evidence for Crim. Case No. 26565 (illegal use of alias) was anchored
on the following grounds: 1. Of the thirty–five (35) witnesses presented by the prosecution, only
two (2) witnesses, Ms. Clarissa Ocampo and Atty. Manuel Curato, testified that on one occasion (4
February 2000), they saw movant use the name "Jose Velarde"; 2. The use of numbered accounts
and the like was legal and was prohibited only in late 2001 as can be gleaned from Bangko Sentral
Circular No. 302, series of 2001, dated 11 October 2001; 3. There is no proof of public and habitual
use of alias as the documents offered by the prosecution are banking documents which, by their
nature, are confidential and cannot be revealed without following proper procedures; and 4. The use
of alias is absorbed in plunder. The People opposed the demurrers of Estrada through a Consolidated

Describe The Balanceet Of The Central Bank
i) Describe the balance sheet of the central bank making clear the composition of its assets and
liabilities.
The central bank is used to engage in the numerous financial transactions it deals with daily. It can
supply currency, provide deposit accounts to the government and commercial banks, make loans,
and buy and sell securities and foreign currency. As a result, this causes changes to the central bank's
balance sheet. The central bank's balance sheet shows three basic assets, which are securities,
foreign exchange reserves, and loans. The securities and foreign exchange reserves are needed so
the central bank can perform its role as being the government's bank. While the loans are a service
to the commercial banks. Before the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discounted loans are loans that the Federal Reserve makes when a commercial bank needs short–
term cash. However, there are several different types of loans that can be issued, and there are times
when the Federal Reserve will issue loans to nonbanks. For example, during 2008 and 2009 the
Federal Reserve had made substantial loans to nonbanks because of the financial crisis.
The central bank's liabilities are also seen in three different forms which are: currency, government
deposit accounts, and deposit accounts of the commercial bank. These can also be divided into
different groups based on their purpose. The currency and government deposit accounts allow the
central bank to perform its role as the government's bank. Currency is used in daily transaction
everywhere, and since it circulates in the hands of the nonbanking public, it is the principal liability
of most central banks. Government accounts are used as a place to deposit the income and used to
pay for the things they buy, it is nearly similar to what people need a deposit account for. The central
bank provides the government an account to deposit their funds, and they can shift their funds
between accounts at commercial banks and the Federal Reserve. Lastly, is the commercial accounts
and contains two parts: one is the deposits at the central bank and the cash in the bank's own vault.
The bank can withdrawal funds from the central bank, and the commercial bank can wire portions of
a deposit accounts

Explain why commercial banks are regulated and describe the major pieces of legislation enacted to prevent bank failures. Financial institutions are regulated because they provide products and services that the economy needs to function efficiently. Also they function in an environment where there is a great deal of asymmetric information, so they help in the screening process. Another reason why banks are regulated is to limit predatory lending practices, for example charging excessively high interest rates or imposing unreasonable conditions and penalties. Banks maintain much lower capital levels than other businesses; currently bank capital accounts for 10% of total funds. Bankers prefer to use high amounts of leverage because they understand the role of leverage in increasing ROE. Banks believe that long term profit maximization can be best achieved if their banks are highly leveraged. Regulators are more concerned about the risk of bank failure, rather than the profits of the individual banks; their concern is protecting the economy from widespread bank distress. 4. What are the major benefits to banks of securitization? There are many different benefits of securitization; first by selling rather than holding loans, banks reduce the amount of assets and liabilities. By reducing assets and liabilities it reduces reserve requirements, capital requirements, and deposit insurance premiums. Second securitization provides a source of funding loans that is less expensive than other sources. Finally, banks are able to generate fees from the securitization process; these include origination, loan–servicing, and underwriting fees. 5. There are many different ways of investing money. The five most common ways to invest are: Term deposits, Managed Funds, shares, property and superannuation. According to can star: A term deposit is a cash investment held at a financial institution for an agreed rate of interest over a fixed amount of time. If the investor wishes to take the money out of the account they will be charged a large fee. Another form of Investment is managed funds. According to colonial first state a managed fund is a professionally managed investment portfolio that individual investors can buy into, purchasing 'units' rather than shares. Shares are small parts of businesses sold on the stock market. The value can go up or down. Buying a property is a way of investing. As the prices of houses rise and fall so does the value of your house. The fifth way of investing is through Superannuation. Superannuation according to Investapedia are Funds deposited in a superannuation account growing typically without any tax implications until retirement or withdrawal These five ways of investing are not all suited to my friend. She is 18 and doesn't have a proper job therefore she will not be able to get superannuation. As she only has 150 000 she will not have enough for a house. Future Value (FV) of a Single Current Lump Sum Received One Period Hence FV = PV(1+i) | PV: current (or present) value | | i: a given interest rate (or rate of return) | (If the tables are used, this is the related formula: FV = PV * FVIF Equation 2 in the Week 1 Lecture) Example: You place $100 today in a bank deposit account that pays 10% annual interest. In other words, interest on your $100 worth of principal is paid once a year and will be received one year from today. What will your deposit account be a year from today? Algebraically, the relationship is: FV = $100(1.1) = $110 Using Excel, try entering the following formula ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Algebraically: PV = $100/[1 + .1/2)]2x1 = $100/[1 + .1/2)]2 = $90.70 Using Excel, entering the following formula in a single spreadsheet cell will result in a value of 90.70: =100/(1+(.1/2))^2 Now, let's extend the process just described into a multi–period context. If you are to amass $100 five years from today, you wish to know the amount of funds you would need to place in a bank account today. The account pays 10% annual interest, with this interest compounded semi–annually. Algebraically: PV = $100/[1 + .1/2)]2x5 = $100/[1 + .1/2)]10 = $61.39 Using Excel, entering the following formula in a single spreadsheet cell will result in a value of 61.39: =100/(1+(.1/2))^10 Now, let's consider the future value counterpart of multiple compounding within a given period. The basis for this calculation involves amending the relationship previously identified. The future value of a single current lump sum one period hence is: FV = PV[1+ (i/n)]ny ; where n equals the number of compounding periods during the year and y equals the number of years. For a single year, y = 1. Suppose you want to know how much you will have in one year if today you place $100 in a bank deposit account that pays 10% annual interest, with interest compounded on a quarterly basis. In this case: FV = $100[1+ (.1/4)]4x1 = $100[1+

There was no federal legislation that forced banks to be insured, but some states required it. In 2007, the mortgage market problems caused the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression. In similar fashion, many banks failed. This again caused depositors to withdraw their money from banks and the FDIC stripped Washington Mutual Bank of its banking subsidiary. By 2011, President Obama issued the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to raise the FDIC deposit insurance to $250,000 per account (History.com Staff, 2017). Major Responsibilities The main role of the FDIC is to prevent the ridiculous withdrawals that occurred during the Great Depression and the Great Recession. Prior to the FDIC, there was no form of insurance for banks and no "money back guarantee" besides the bank's stability. Since almost all banks are FDIC insured, customers have no need to panic even if the bank starts to fail because the FDIC will cover up to $250,000 per account, which is sufficient for most customers. With this, there should be no more panicking withdrawals and banks should, hopefully, be able to solve their problems in a more controlled environment. Branches are located in Monmouth, Macomb, LaHarpe, Peoria, Carthage, Hamilton, Pekin, Blandinsville, Colusa, and Bettendorf. The company has been privately owned since its inception in 1904. The bank recently underwent monumental rebranding as the name of the bank changed in order to allow for the new Bettendorf branch opening in early 2018 in Eastern Iowa. The name First State Bank simply was not going to be applicable to future Iowan customers. The name change was purely cosmetic and has had no change on any other aspects of the business. Everything from the bank's routing number to phone number has stayed the same. Customers will simply be receiving updated checks and debit cards with the name Fortress Bank when they run out of checks or their debit cards expire. Until then, everything with the name First State Bank of Illinois will still be applicable. The only exception is the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money 's three primary economic functions. First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to negotiate the exchange of goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter system 's wastefulness like the dependence on the occurrence of a coincidence of wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable purchasing power in order for it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible, transportable, recognizable, have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of preservation, high market value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to counterfeiting. The most famous medium of exchange back then was gold since it was dormant. Even small amounts of gold had considerable value which made gold user–friendly. Men cherished gold because it also had a constant value due to its special physical and chemical properties. The standard numerical unit of measuring goods and services ' market value is simply known as unit of account. It is mandatory for forming commercial agreements. In order for money to function as a unit of account, it must be divisible into smaller units without a loss of value, fungible, and have a specific weight, measure or size in order to be verifiable countable. Lastly, money must be able to be reliably stored, saved and retrieved in order for it to function as a store of value. Likewise, it must be usable as a medium of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 81. The Value Of The Fiat Money 1) People can lose faith in money because if the value becomes questionable, so will the acceptance of it. Economists believe that the better the fiat money serves as a store of value, the more acceptable it is. This statement basically means that since fiat money is not backed by anything of value, its not as easily accepted. Over time, people gradually come to accept the fiat money because they believe others will accept it also. 2) When the value of money was based on its gold content, new discoveries of gold were followed by periods of inflation because as the surplus of gold went up, so did the supply of money. When the supply of money surpasses its equilibrium, we get inflation. 3) A depository institution is a financial institutions such as a savings or commercial bank or credit union that allows customers to deposit monies.
