Why Did Goodyear Want To Build The Air
After the first World War, it became obvious that whoever had air superiority would win future
battles. Seeing the potential in a good investment, the U.S. Navy paid $13.4 million to Goodyear to
build two airships. The Navy wanted each airship to have a volume of seven million cubic feet, so
Goodyear compensated for the two ginormous ships by building an air dock that could fit a fifteen
million cubic foot airship. Goodyear, with help from German engineer Karl Arnstein, began work on
the air dock in 1928. Goodyear decided to build the air dock in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, but
they had trouble finding a way to build on soil which was muck, clay, gravel, and sand. To make it
easier, they removed most of the earth and replaced it with gravel.

The Goodyear Rubber Band: William Spencer Of Alliance, Ohio
Even though the rubber band was developed and patented in the 19th century, at this point it was
mainly used in factories and warehouses, rather than within the common household. This improved
thanks to William Spencer of Alliance, Ohio. The story goes, according the Cincinnati Examiner,
that in 1923, Spencer noticed the pages of the Akron Beacon Journal, his local newspaper, were
constantly being blown across his and his neighbors' lawns. Consequently, he came up with a simple
solution for this. As an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad, he realized where to acquire free
rubber pieces and discarded inner tubes – from The Goodyear Rubber Company also established in
Akron. He cut these pieces into round strips and started to wrap the newspapers

Charles Goodyear was a man of determination, He dedicated most of this life to creating vulcanized
rubber it is more or less a moldable and water–resistant rubber. He received is patent in 1844 for his
invention.
With the invention of Charles Goodyear's special rubber which was used to make footwear and tires,
came the company named after him, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
Back in 1898, Frank Seiberling created, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. It is based in

An examination of the tires on Vehicle 1 revealed the two rear tires to be Goodyear brand radial
tires, 235/75/15 in size. The two front tires were Milestar brand radial tires, also 235/75/15 in size.
The left front, left rear and right rear tires were flat due to the crash. The right front tire was inflated
to 35psi. All the tires were in good condition with an average tread depth of 7/32's. The three tires
on the vehicle that were flat, appeared to have the tire seals popped from the collision and did not
suffer from any type of tire failure. Vehicle 1 appeared to have been decent working order. A search

Essay about Goodyear Case
Goodyear Case
In 1992, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company decided to reconsider the offer from Sears to sell
Goodyear's Eagle brand tires. The reasons that Goodyear was contemplating this offer was that
Sears was replacing worn out Goodyear tires at a large amount every year. The tires were not being
replaced with Goodyear tires because the customers at Sears wanted to replace their tires with the
best possible tires that Sears offered, and the Goodyear tires were not in the offering. The company's
major options in this decision were whether to sell only the Eagle brand tires or all of the Goodyear
tire brands.

Goodyear?s principal business is the development, manufacture, distribution and sale of tires
throughout the world. The distribution of tires represented 83% of the company?s corporate sales of
$10.9 billion in 1991. Around 60% of Goodyear worldwide sales were in the tire replacement
market and 40% were to the original equipment market. Because of the Goodyear name, which is
one of the best known brand names in the world, the Goodyear tires have been positioned and priced
as premium quality brands. It is one of the leading national advertisers in the U.S. The company also
operates around 1,000 company owned Goodyear Auto Service Centers and sells through 2,500
franchised Goodyear Tires Dealers in the U.S. These outlets account for a good portion of the
company?s annual tire sales.
Recommendations
Because of an industry analysis that expects Sears to benefit from carrying Goodyear tires, I think it
would be a good idea for Goodyear to sell their tires at Sears? stores. The fact that Goodyear is
losing many customers to Sears by Sears not offering replacement tires to their customers is
becoming a large loss of business for Goodyear. The customers at Sears are returning customers,
and feel that the integrity of the company is well represented by the products they offer. For
Goodyear to sell their products at the Sears stores, it would show that the Goodyear name stands for
quality and that the product can be

The Impact Of Ford And The Firestone Crisis
Ford and the Firestone crisis was a long–standing controversy between the car manufacturer and the
tyre company based on the failures of Ford Explorer vehicles with Firestone tyres. In the year 2001,
the controversy broke out as there were plenty of incidents happened as more than 220 people have
been killed with road accidents all over America involving Ford Explorer vehicles. There was a bit
of rivalry between Ford and General Motors and with this controversy it had damaged the reputation
of Ford which resulted in the loss of its market share and its loyalty among customers. Both the
companies were facing millions of dollars of lawsuits from various costumers. This controversy
brought an end to the 100–year–old supplier –relationship which began in 1896 between Ford and

Firestone had argued that the problem lies within the Ford Explorer standard and safety features
rather than the fault in their Tyres. Firestone during that time is worried about the fact that other
vehicle companies would cancel their orders with firestone because of this controversy. During the
committee hearing, there were evidences which showed that Ford have been replacing firestone

1. How would you characterize the competitive environment in the tire industry in 1991? The tire
industry is divided into two end–use markets: First is the original equipment tire market (OEM) in
which tires are sold directly to the automobile or truck manufacturers. This market represents 25 to
30 percent of the tire unit production volume each year. Goodyear is the market share leader in this
segment and captures 38 percent (1991). Within this segment, price is highly inelastic due to the fact
that car and truck manufacturers can easily switch to a competitor brand since the price competition
in this segment is fierce in this market The second is the replacement tire market. This segment of

Their slogan also portrays a high quality message to consumers: The best tires in the world have
Goodyear written all over them. Therefore, it is essential for them to maintain the availability of
their high quality brands. 3. Does it make strategic sense for Goodyear to broaden its distribution
beyond company–owned and franchised Goodyear tire retailers as a matter of channel policy? Why?
It is important to consider that very few replacement buyers are knowledgeable about tires and
many end up choosing a tire based on price while others follow the recommendation of their local
dealer. Consumers are becoming more price conscious which is an important factor to consider
when deciding if it is time to broaden distribution beyond company–owned and franchised
Goodyear tire retailers as a matter of channel policy. Most replacement tire customers do not have a
preference, which makes it easy for tire salespeople to switch customers to private label brands that
deliver higher profit margins therefore, inability to penetrate that market segment would be a
strategic error. 4. What are the strategic implications of broadened distribution of Goodyear–brand
passenger tires through Sears Auto Centers? Broadening distribution through Sears Auto would be
strategically advantageous because consumers

Why Should Women Earn Impartial Pay
The possibilities of dreams are endless, but "no person can maximize the American Dream on the
minimum wage" (Benjamin Todd Jealous). The unequal pay between men and women has persisted
for a while, and it is time that a law should be passed. If a colleague is working just as hard as a
person in that same position, they should not be paid less. A law for wage equality is needed because
the hard work of both men and women should be treated equally. Women who play as good as, or
better than men, earn an impartial pay based on their work. Even if men and women are both very
good at the same sport, being a women interferes with the pay value. For example, WNBA star
Candace Parker earns the league maximum of $111,500 per year. NBA star LeBron James makes

$731,000 for winning, while Serena Williams received $495,000–68 percent of Federer's prize––for
her victory the same day (Stoffers). Although Serena Williams works very hard and wins a tennis
championship, she gets a dissimilar amount of money to congratulate her victory. Furthermore, as
women move up in job positions, the impartial pay value increases. In technology industries, the
study found that female technologists earn as much as men with comparable experience during their
first five years of experience (Pratt).
Although women start out with an equal pay, the more experience they have, the less money they

History Of Charles Goodyear: The First Soccer Ball
Background Report In 1855, Charles Goodyear invented the first soccer ball made out of rubber.
Charles was in jail for debts, but while he was in jail, he asked his wife to bring him rubber, and a
rolling pin. There, in his cell, he made his first rubber experiments , kneading and working the gum
hour after hour. If rubber was naturally adhesive, he reasoned, why couldn't a dry powder be mixed
in to absorb it's stickiness? Perhaps the talc–like magnesia powder sold in drugstores? Out of jail, he
tried, with promising results. After inventing vulcanized rubber, he invented the first soccer ball.
When air is pumped in a ball, the amount of air molecules crammed into one place is increasing.
This leads to the rise of air pressure within the ball. Air pressure can be ... Show more content on

Newton's second law of motion states that "The change in velocity in which an object moves
directly proportional to the magnitude of the force applied to the object." This can be explained by
the equation F=MA. The acceleration of the ball, (A), is determined by the force applied, (F),
divided by the mass of the object that is being moved, (M). This simply means that if the ball has a
lot of mass, it will require more force to accelerate, and if the ball has little mass, then it will require
little force. Newton's third law states that "For every action, there is equal and opposite
reaction."This means that if a person would kick the soccer ball, it will kick back at them just as
hard. People don't realise this because their leg doesn't seem to move. This is because the leg has
more mass, meaning it has more inertia, which is the resistance to move. When a soccer player kicks
the ball, he transfers his momentum to the ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object times its
mass. My project is important to humans and science because then people will know how much to
air up their soccer ball. Vocabulary

'Grub' By Dana Goodyear: A Comparative Analysis
For generations the thought of a home cooked meal has brought family and friends together.
Whether fresh, frozen or refrigerated, almost everyone can agree the best time of day is finally being
able to sit down at the dinner table and enjoy a delicious meal. However, as many people know not
every meal is created the same. In many cases, different meals can vary in how they look, how they
are prepared, what they are made of, and how they taste. The reason so many meals vary is because
of what is available at the time of making the dish. Brent Cunningham's "Pastoral Romance"

the United States. Dana Goodyear, a writer for the New Yorker, has ... Show more content on

These articles might have many comparable features and references, but they also have many
comparable differences as well. The main focus of "Pastoral Romance" is looking back on the
history of agricultural production in the United States, whereas the main focus of "Grub" is looking
into the future at how and what could be done to make the United States more agriculturally self
sufficient. Furthermore the subject matter for both of these articles is the same because they are both
based on food, but where they start to differ is in what type of food is being discussed. Goodyear's
article is based on consuming insects and what can be done with those insects to further change the
food industry in the United States. In her article she states "Four–fifths of the animal species on
earth are insects, and yet food insects are not particularly easy to find." Goodyear's statement is
important because it pushes the issue on why we need to look more into the bug eating community.
There are many reasons why consuming bugs has not taken off in the United States. The most
compelling argument not to consume insects is because "Processing insects is labor–intensive, and
they are not exactly filling. One would have to eat about a thousand grasshoppers to equal the
amount of protein in a twelve–ounce steak." Sure the idea is great, but it's not exactly realistically
achievable. Still, the example from "Grub"

Challenges Facing Goodyear Essay
Challenges Facing Goodyear
Problem Statement
There are several challenges facing Goodyear in the current environment. Our sales have leveled off
in the past few years and we need to increase our market share in order to improve these numbers.
Our debt is high and our interest payments are eating away at our profiles so we need to get more
income to pay down this debt. The more immediate question is if Goodyear should launch its new
line of
Aquatred tires. The trend has been toward higher mileage tires and the Aquatred tire is not in line
with this trend, being more of a higher end tire. Additionally, if we do determine that we are going
to launch the Aquatred, do we start the advertising during the
Olympics when we don't ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, to capture this buyer, we would have to get our tires to the preferred store and have
aggressive pricing at all stores. Since our product is higher priced, we probably will not get many
Commodity buyers purchasing the Aquatred tire.
Market size and trends
The Aquatred is going to be sold as a strictly replacement tire, as the automakers have a long lead–
time for their purchases and changes in products. The market for replacement tires for the tire
industry is almost 3 times the number of units to OEMs so the potential here is huge for the
Aquatred. Goodyear has traditionally had a much higher percentage of OEM tires sold versus
replacement tires so an aggressive campaign could help these numbers for us. The problem that we
have here is that we are not as strong in the replacement tire market so we will have to be more
aggressive than our competitors. Automobiles are being driven longer and longer with the increase
in reliability over the years, so the market for replacement tires should be expected to grow at a
higher rate than OEMs.
Aquatred is considered a broad–line tire and not a performance tire.
The trend is toward broad–line tires with higher mileage warranties.
The Aquatred tire only has a 60,000–mile warranty so this presents a possible challenge to us since
there are tires with 80,000–mile warranties on the market and

Goodyear Co Essay
Throughout the years Goodyear has been distributing its tires only through the company–owned
Goodyear Auto Service Centers and franchised Goodyear Tire dealers. The decision of Goodyear
Company to broaden its distribution to Sears Auto Centers will have several advantages and
disadvantages related to this action.
Advantages: 1) Increase in sales in the short term, which will create an increase of market share in
the long term. Goodyear's sales are declined because of multi–branding among mass merchandisers
by warehouse membership club stores and discount tire retailers. Also, customers are price sensitive
and they seek inexpensive tires at places such as Sears. 2) Expanded distribution. Sears has a strong
market presence and can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) Goodyear's Tires brand image maybe hurt. Due to the fact that Sears sells mostly tires that are not
premium quality, consumers may start to think Goodyear as a moderate brand and not as a high–
quality product as it has been positioned. 3) Consumers of tires are becoming more price conscious
and less brand loyal, thus they easily proceed into brand switching and erode the importance of
securing replacement sales through original equipment sales to vehicle manufactures. 4) Dealer–
sponsored private–label tires accounted for 15% to 20% of total replacement tire sales in the US in
1991.Many dealers are able to influence choices and push their private–label tires to obtain higher
margins.
The above decision of Goodyear Company to distribute its tires to Sears Auto Centers should be
carefully implemented. As we know Goodyear tires have been positioned as high quality products
and as the advertising slogan communicates, "The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all
over them". This means that well studied actions should be taken when it comes to distribute to
places such as Sears Auto Centers. The customers that go to department stores to replace their tires,
they are not really knowledgeable about the several types of tires. Thus, they choose on the basis of
price or others patronize with their dealers. As mentioned earlier, consumers are not brand loyal and

Lilly Ledbetter had finally had enough of the gender discrimination at Goodyear and decided to take
a stand. In 2003, she sued Goodyear and the federal jury awarded her $3.8 million in damages. Later
in 2003, a judge reduced her winnings to $300,000. However, Goodyear appealed until Supreme
Court although the Civil Rights Act clearly forbids gender discrimination. At the Supreme Court
trial, Goodyear pointed out that the Civil Rights Act also has a statute of limitations which means
that an employee must file a complaint within 180 days of the first unfair paycheck. This means that
Lilly Ledbetter needed to have sued six months after she was hired. In 2006, the Supreme Court
found Goodyear innocent of gender discrimination meaning that Goodyear won the case. Lilly
Ledbetter got no reward at all and all of her previous awards were taken away except for a $3,165
check from Goodyear for "court costs." But this was just a small setback for Lilly Ledbetter. Samuel

knew that if she were to lose, she would lose everything. This happened as she was awarded
$3,285,979 but all of her money was taken away when Goodyear appealed. Not to be stopped,
Ledbetter risked her money yet again by appealing to the Supreme Court. Lilly Ledbetter even said

Miles Goodyear And The Whitman-Spaulding Party
Miles Goodyear was born on February 24, 1817 in Hamden, Connecticut. In his youth, he was
raised as an orphan and was a servant for many years. As he got older, he joined the Whitman–
Spaulding Missionary Party. His fellow men in the party described him with light flaxen hair and
light blue eyes. As he got older his hair turned red. When the Whitman–Spaulding party reached
Fort Hall, he decided to leave. Part of the company he was with would say things like, "he liked to
be free and able to do what he wanted." For the next ten years, after he left the party, he trapped and
became a mountain man. Later on in his life, he married Pomona. She was a daughter of a Ute chief

The Goodyear And The Tire Industry
The Goodyear name has been one of the most recognized brands in the tire industry around the
world. They are known for having a superior quality product through the price and positions they
have chosen. Their slogan, "The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them,"
(Kerin, 2005) provides their customers with a high class message and creates an importance for
them to preserve the accessibility of their high value brands. Unfortunately, consumers have become
more price conscious about their tire purchases and less focused on loyalty to a specific brand. They
experienced a 3.2% decline in the market share for the tires associated with passenger car
replacement (Kerin, 2005). Because of this change, Goodyear has seen a drop in their sales. With
already 2 million Goodyear brand tires, which have been worn out, being replaced at 850 Sears Auto
Center locations annually, Goodyear reopened previous discussions with Sears to possibly sell their
Eagle brand tires or all Goodyear tire brands through them. Choosing to do so could create great
benefits for the company but could also generate turmoil within their franchises and other retail
chains where their brands are sold. Before making the final decision, they must determine how this
move will affect their franchisees, are they willing to significantly change their distribution policy,
what brands Goodyear will allow to be retailed through the Sears network, and how cannibalization
of their brands sold via other

Persuasive Essay On Texting And Driving
Over the years texting and driving has always been a huge safety risk. In today's world, the average
person owns a device of some sort. Most people carry their cell phone or device on them daily. As a
result of this, distracted driving has become an everyday problem. One major result of this issue is
motor vehicle accidents. A driver that is not paying full attention to the road is more likely to get
into a car accident. Many accidents that have occured can end up being fatal or even deathly.
Texting and driving should be stopped and punishments should be implemented. This has been a
recurring issue and needs to be solved. It is not easy for one person to make a difference. In order to
solve the issue, it will acquire more help from others. Groups have used signs and even blimps to try
to promote this. To make this more aware, people need to become involved to help stop this
distraction that is happening behind the wheel. Over the years different companies and people have
been trying to prevent texting and driving. The most popular solution is promoting the issue on
signs and build boards all around. Companies continue to promote this because the number of fatal
crashes are increasing. Technology is still growing which makes people more vulnerable to reach for
that device while driving. With these signs being presented to the people it could solve this issue.
People will read anything that is short and simple. Pictures of fatal car crashes show so much more
beyond just the image. Anyone can take that to heart and realize what they have been doing is
wrong. Companies like Verizon Wireless, Goodyear Tire Company, and even young High School
Students are not going to stop to solve this issue. Other people like our Congressman should be
informed to help as well. Many people in this world have tried to stop distracted drivers. Out of all
of those people, most have lost someone to distracted driving or was involved in a fatal car crash
themselves. In Ohio the texting and driving law is a secondary offense for adults. Anyone under the
age of 18 will be charged with a primary offense. State Representative, Rex Damschroder says, "...it
should be a primary offence for all drivers, as intended in the bill he sponsored

Case Of Ledbetter Vs. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
The case, Ledbetter vs. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., was about discrimination against gender.
Ledbetter felt that she was being discriminating against due to her being a female. After reading
over the case, Ledbetter was employed at the company for 19 years. She felt that she was getting
lower ratings and lower raises then the other employees at the company. According to the case,
Ledbetter sued Goodyear for gender discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
of 1964, alleging that the company had given her a low salary because of her gender. A jury found
for Ledbetter and awarded her over $3.5 million, which the district judge later reduced to $360,000
(2016).
After Ledbetter was awarded for the discriminated, Goodyear came back to the court. The company
appealed the decision that was decided by the court. Goodyear argued that due to Title IV provision
that requires discrimination complaints to be made within 180 days of the employer's discriminatory
conduct. When the jury came up with their decision they looked over Ledbetter entire years working
with the company. Goodyear only wanted them to look at the one annual salary review that had
occurred within the 180–day limitations period before Ledbetter's complaint.

Goodyear uses three ammonia heat exchangers in its production process lines. The ammonia cooling
system supplies the heat exchangers with pressurized liquid ammonia. As the ammonia absorbs heat
from the process chemical flowing through tubes in the center of the heat exchanger, the ammonia
boils in the heat exchanger shell (Figure 2). A pressure control valve in the vapor return line
maintains ammonia pressure at 150 psig in the heat exchanger. Ammonia vapor returns to the
ammonia cooling system where it is pressurized and cooled, liquefying the ammonia.

The process chemicals exiting the heat exchanger flow to the process reactors. Each heat exchanger
is equipped with a rupture disk in series with a pressure relief valve (both set at 300 psig) to protect
the heat exchanger from excessive pressure. The relief system vented ammonia vapor through the
roof to the atmosphere.
Liquefied ammonia causes frostbite on contact. One cubic foot of liquid ammonia produces 850
cubic feet of vapor. Since ammonia vapor is lighter than air, it tends to rise. The vapor can also
remain close to the ground when it absorbs water vapor from air in high humidity conditions. The

A Short Story : Grub By Dana Goodyear
Instead of relaxing one late afternoon in the summer, a person is chasing a fly all over their house.
After a person approaches the fly, after hours of trying to catch it, they finally catch and kill the fly
with their bare hands. Being a curious person, they put the dead bug in their mouth, and they chew it
up and swallow. The aftertaste of the bug was disguising so they ran to the fridge to get water. The
next morning the person who ate the bug tells their friend about the traumatizing experience. The
friend looks at the bug eater with disgust. Although, the friend should not because in so many
countries eating bugs is entirely reasonable and a part of everyday meals. The normalcy of eating
bug is in this short article called "Grub" by Dana Goodyear, when she informs the readers about
how to eat insect the right way, the specific types of bugs that people can eat, the people who do eat
bugs, and the reasons why people should eat bugs. In this short story, "Grub," Goodyear discusses
how to eat insects the right way, and also grouped by this category is when she talks about the
specific types of bugs that people can eat. She says that people around the world eat crickets,
worms, beetles, mealworm, ants, butterflies, bees, maggots, termites, tarantulas, grasshoppers,
caterpillars and slugs. There are several different ways to prepare these insects. For example, people
roast crickets, and if they are pinheads before they get cooked and, then people place the crickets

Case Study: Goodyear: The Aquatred Launch
Although Goodyear was the leader in U.S. passenger tire market with 15% market share, the
company still had to be very careful in all things done because the competition was so intense.
There were so many players in the industry, both branded and private label. Although, each of them
had less than 10% of market share, the second in rank, Michelin, was growing very fast in both
replacement and OEM market. Also, the private label had become the biggest threat for all branded
tires since many branded tire owners intended to replace their tires with private label.

The company could lose lots of tire customers who their preferred outlets had no Goodyear tires.
Although Goodyear claimed not to want its tires sold in low–priced outlets, they sporadically
obtained Goodyear tires. Therefore, Goodyear should answer itself first why it didn't want its tires
sold in low–priced outlets? Bad image? Then why Michelin, which had its tires sold in low–priced
outlets, still got higher percentage from value–oriented buyers and quality buyers in the survey of
'what brand of tires the owners intended to buy the next time'?
New product launched: Aquatred
Aquatred was a new tire providing improved driving traction under wet conditions. The question
was 'was it the right product for the dealers and for the consumer, as the industry seemed to be
turning toward long–life warranties and low–cost private label?'
It was also planned to launch during the Winter Olympics in January of 1992. However, the initial
inventory of Aquatreds had been made to fit only domestic cars and molds to produce other sizes
would not be available until several months after the Olympics.
In addition, Goodyear hoped to price the Aquatred at a 10% premium over the existing most–
expensive tire. However, as the company research stated that more customers were price–sensitive,

Gender Inequality Of Equal Pay For Women
Introduction:
On January 29, 2016, The White House Press Office released a FACT SHEET on new steps to
advance equal pay for women. This FACT SHEET states that,
"the median wage of a woman working full–time all year in the United States is about $39,600–only
79 percent of a man's median earnings of $50,400" (The White House, 2016).
However, many scholars and economists disagree that a gender wage gap exists. In addition,
conservative political experts and bloggers promote the notion that gender based wage gap is an
idea propagated by feminists, women empowering organizations, and progressives. However,
almost all the working women in the United States, and organizations such as Institute for Women's
Policy Research (IRWP), and American Association of University Women (AAAU), strongly
believe in the existence of the gender wage gap.
This sociological issue of equal pay for women is extremely relevant in today's environment where
women perform equal work as men in many occupations. Furthermore, with almost 50% of the
work force being women, women contributing equally to the family income, and a large number of
women being the single parents supporting children, lack of equal pay over time could increase the
poverty rates for women (White House, 2016). In addition, IWPR's 2015 report on the status of
American women, states that if women receive equal pay for the same work, the poverty rate among
women will see a reduction from 8.2% to 4%, an almost 50% reduction (Hess et

Goodyear Aquatred Case
Goodyear's Aquatred Case
Goodyear, around the late 1980s was developing a tire that would set them apart from the
competition. Unfortunately they were stuck in a time when replacing tires was not high on peoples
list of pleasantries, which will be explained in greater detail. Goodyear developed what they called
the Aquatred tire which was supposed to give greater traction during wet weather and a superior
quality that would have the same traction after much use as some tires did when they were brand
new. However, they faced a few problems along the way. The price for this new tire was going to be
quite expensive. The industry at this time was not looking for a high performance tire so much, but
rather something with a guarantee and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to determine which option to choose, Goodyear weighed the advantages and disadvantages
of each. The advantage of having a 'premium' tire is being able to charge more, thus generating
higher profits. On the other hand, consumer perception at the time was that buying tires is a 'grudge
purchase' and they were not willing to pay the extra money for features they didn't want. Goodyear's
tires had always been marketed toward the average consumer who wanted a good tire at a good
price. The possibility of losing those loyal customers was high. The second option of which
distribution channel to go through also has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of
moving to a large wholesaler, rather than just independent tire dealers, was greater exposure and
possibly higher profits. However, Goodyear's past revenue mainly came from loyal independent
dealers, and it could be devastating to business if Goodyear lost that loyal base. In addition to the
cost, independent tire dealers didn't feel Aquatred's 'premium' features warranted the high cost or
that it would appeal to their customers.
In the end Goodyear tried to do too much and forgot their market and what made them so great in
the first place. It is shown that in the '80s and early '90s Goodyear was in commanding lead of their
competitors in the segment they were targeting. I believe that if they were going to launch the tire,
then broadening their channels to a

The defendant's theory
Good Year doesn't feel they are responsible for the "other cost and losses" suffered by the Plaintiffs
in this case. Good Year feel like if they pay the correct amount they will have satisfied the courts
decision. Once the attorneys calculated the correct amount and tried to fix the issue Good Year felt
they were only obligated to pay that amount only.
The legal issue
Should the Plaintiffs really get the $1.3 million ordered by the Courts? Should they be awarded any
money for their "other cost and losses"?
The holding of the court
It was found that no, Good Year Tire & Rubber Company was not responsible for the "other cost
and losses" of the Plaintiffs. Good Year was not obligated to pay the Plaintiffs since there was no
agreement made for payment. The error that was found was bought to Good Year's attention but the
attorneys failed to agree on the correct amount.
What do you think?
I think that Good Year Tires should pay the Plaintiffs' the correct amount from the parentages the
courts ordered them to pay. The Plaintiffs' attorneys should have ensured they make an agreement

Essay on Cause and Effect
Cause and Effect of Price Wars
When large sums of money are at stake, many companies bend and flex to their limits to guarantee
defeat over the competition. Sometimes they take a loss in one area for a gain in another area. There
is a cause for every action the company makes, and in return for their action there is an effect.
Although the effect can sometimes be pre–determined, no one is really sure what the outcome is
going to be until the time comes.
There are millions of cars on the road today and they all require tires. When an owner replaces the
tires on his or her vehicle, they can decide what make and model will be on the car. But when a

(http://archives . ) The effect of the tire separation caused many more problems. Firestone was
forced to recall 6.5 million tires. The tires that were affected buy the recall were the Radial ATX,
Radial AXT II, and some Wilderness AT tires. Only the versions of these tires that have "VD" at the
beginning of the serial number are affected. These tires are found mainly on the Ford Explorer and
the Mercury Mountaineer. "We made some bad tires and we take full responsibility for those" said
Firestone executive John Lampe (Naughton). The effect of these 6.5 million recalled tires is starting
to show through. "We have seen an alarming number of serious accidents from rollovers of the
Explorer after a tire failure" said Firestone's Lampe while arguing his defense in front of the
supreme court. Evidence directly relates 103 deaths and 400 injuries to these tires. These statistics
were based on 2226 consumer complaints. There are also over 600 deaths alone from the Explorer
rolling over, but not all have been investigated to determine if the tires were the cause.

AquaTred Goodyear Tyres: A Competitive Market Analysis
A competitive market analysis: AquaTred Goodyear Tires The problem AquaTred Goodyear tires
were replacement tires designed in 1992 to provide enhanced traction during poor weather
conditions. Trends in the tire industry during the 1970s had resulted in consumers driving less often,
replacing tires less, and using more durable and long–lasting radial tires on smaller vehicles. Also,
increased foreign competition was now a factor in the tire industry. The industry never quite
recovered the level of robustness that had existed previously. AquaTreds were an attempt by
Goodyear to offer added incentive to choose its product in the volatile tire market. Because tire
purchases have little glamour attached to them, and practicality and price are a premium, Goodyear
wanted to offer an added functional advantage to choose its product, as well as added social cache
by selecting a premium tire. The AquaTred was positioned to be marketed to higher–end customers
that cared about quality as well as price. Preliminary research indicated that the target consumer for
the AquaTreds was also more likely to research a product before purchase (Isaacson 1994: 13). But
Goodyear dealers were lukewarm about the product, citing the fact that price and the ability to last
for longer distances was more of a factor in consumer decision–making. It was a 'boutique' tire,
when middle–range products moved the quickest off the shelves (Isaacson 1994: 14). Expanding

It is true that Ledbetter never succeeded with the case, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company
went against the utilitarian theory when they made the choice to underpay her. First, whether an act
is wrong or right depending on the consequences of the act. Second, whether an act is good or bad
depends on facts about welfare. Third, the sources of value in the world are found in individuals
such as people and animals. Fourth, the value of a state of affairs is obtained by getting the average
of the values associated with the persons in that state of affairs. Finally, the value of a state of affairs
is desired to be as great as possible (Eggleston, 2012). The company should also have considered
the consequences that followed the act of discrimination against Ledbetter. This discriminatory act
brought more unhappiness than happiness in the sense that it had to have negatively affected the
morale of female employees who were working for the company, the emotions of their families,
consumers, the stock–holders, and even some of the male employees, thus affecting productivity.
This shows that the Company cannot be justified for the discriminatory act against Ledbetter.
Gender discrimination might increase inequality at the work place. Ledbetter claimed that she was
consistently given poor assessments at work by her supervisors and that is why after so many years
of hard work she was still earning far less

Goodyear's Giant Airship Hangar: Building for the Future of Aviation

  • 1. Why Did Goodyear Want To Build The Air After the first World War, it became obvious that whoever had air superiority would win future battles. Seeing the potential in a good investment, the U.S. Navy paid $13.4 million to Goodyear to build two airships. The Navy wanted each airship to have a volume of seven million cubic feet, so Goodyear compensated for the two ginormous ships by building an air dock that could fit a fifteen million cubic foot airship. Goodyear, with help from German engineer Karl Arnstein, began work on the air dock in 1928. Goodyear decided to build the air dock in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, but they had trouble finding a way to build on soil which was muck, clay, gravel, and sand. To make it easier, they removed most of the earth and replaced it with gravel. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story goes, according the Cincinnati Examiner, that in 1923, Spencer noticed the pages of the Akron Beacon Journal, his local newspaper, were constantly being blown across his and his neighbors' lawns. Consequently, he came up with a simple solution for this. As an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad, he realized where to acquire free rubber pieces and discarded inner tubes – from The Goodyear Rubber Company also established in Akron. He cut these pieces into round strips and started to wrap the newspapers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay about Goodyear Case Goodyear Case In 1992, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company decided to reconsider the offer from Sears to sell Goodyear's Eagle brand tires. The reasons that Goodyear was contemplating this offer was that Sears was replacing worn out Goodyear tires at a large amount every year. The tires were not being replaced with Goodyear tires because the customers at Sears wanted to replace their tires with the best possible tires that Sears offered, and the Goodyear tires were not in the offering. The company's major options in this decision were whether to sell only the Eagle brand tires or all of the Goodyear tire brands. Goodyear?s principal business is the development, manufacture, distribution and sale of tires throughout the world. The distribution of tires represented 83% of the company?s corporate sales of $10.9 billion in 1991. Around 60% of Goodyear worldwide sales were in the tire replacement market and 40% were to the original equipment market. Because of the Goodyear name, which is one of the best known brand names in the world, the Goodyear tires have been positioned and priced as premium quality brands. It is one of the leading national advertisers in the U.S. The company also operates around 1,000 company owned Goodyear Auto Service Centers and sells through 2,500 franchised Goodyear Tires Dealers in the U.S. These outlets account for a good portion of the company?s annual tire sales. Recommendations Because of an industry analysis that expects Sears to benefit from carrying Goodyear tires, I think it would be a good idea for Goodyear to sell their tires at Sears? stores. The fact that Goodyear is losing many customers to Sears by Sears not offering replacement tires to their customers is becoming a large loss of business for Goodyear. The customers at Sears are returning customers, and feel that the integrity of the company is well represented by the products they offer. For Goodyear to sell their products at the Sears stores, it would show that the Goodyear name stands for quality and that the product can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This market represents 25 to 30 percent of the tire unit production volume each year. Goodyear is the market share leader in this segment and captures 38 percent (1991). Does it make strategic sense for Goodyear to broaden its distribution beyond company–owned and franchised Goodyear tire retailers as a matter of channel policy? Why? It is important to consider that very few replacement buyers are knowledgeable about tires and many end up choosing a tire based on price while others follow the recommendation of their local dealer. Consumers are becoming more price conscious which is an important factor to consider when deciding if it is time to broaden distribution beyond company–owned and franchised Goodyear tire retailers as a matter of channel policy. Most replacement tire customers do not have a preference, which makes it easy for tire salespeople to switch customers to private label brands that deliver higher profit margins therefore, inability to penetrate that market segment would be a strategic error. 4. • 11. Why Should Women Earn Impartial Pay The possibilities of dreams are endless, but "no person can maximize the American Dream on the minimum wage" (Benjamin Todd Jealous). The unequal pay between men and women has persisted for a while, and it is time that a law should be passed. If a colleague is working just as hard as a person in that same position, they should not be paid less. A law for wage equality is needed because the hard work of both men and women should be treated equally. Women who play as good as, or better than men, earn an impartial pay based on their work. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., 05–1074 Summary of one or more of the main legal arguments: It seems this class has made me realize how tricky the justice system can be. I have been coaxed into reading more and more about the law and realizing that everything is not as black and white as it seems. For this legal research paper I decided to analyze the law concerning pay discrimination. This is a subject dear to my heart, as I believe I witnessed some of this first hand in relation to my wife when she managed a branch of a credit union. • 13. History Of Charles Goodyear: The First Soccer Ball Background Report In 1855, Charles Goodyear invented the first soccer ball made out of rubber. Charles was in jail for debts, but while he was in jail, he asked his wife to bring him rubber, and a rolling pin. There, in his cell, he made his first rubber experiments , kneading and working the gum hour after hour. If rubber was naturally adhesive, he reasoned, why couldn't a dry powder be mixed in to absorb it's stickiness? Perhaps the talc–like magnesia powder sold in drugstores? Out of jail, he tried, with promising results. After inventing vulcanized rubber, he invented the first soccer ball. When air is pumped in a ball, the amount of air molecules crammed into one place is increasing. This leads to the rise of air pressure within the ball. Air pressure can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Newton's second law of motion states that "The change in velocity in which an object moves directly proportional to the magnitude of the force applied to the object." This can be explained by the equation F=MA. The acceleration of the ball, (A), is determined by the force applied, (F), divided by the mass of the object that is being moved, (M). This simply means that if the ball has a lot of mass, it will require more force to accelerate, and if the ball has little mass, then it will require little force. Newton's third law states that "For every action, there is equal and opposite reaction."This means that if a person would kick the soccer ball, it will kick back at them just as hard. People don't realise this because their leg doesn't seem to move. This is because the leg has more mass, meaning it has more inertia, which is the resistance to move. When a soccer player kicks the ball, he transfers his momentum to the ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object times its mass. My project is important to humans and science because then people will know how much to air up their soccer ball. Vocabulary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, as many people know not every meal is created the same. In many cases, different meals can vary in how they look, how they are prepared, what they are made of, and how they taste. The reason so many meals vary is because of what is available at the time of making the dish. Furthermore the subject matter for both of these articles is the same because they are both based on food, but where they start to differ is in what type of food is being discussed. Goodyear's article is based on consuming insects and what can be done with those insects to further change the food industry in the United States. Unfortunately, consumers have become more price conscious about their tire purchases and less focused on loyalty to a specific brand. There was a time when Stanley Gault was grilling hot dogs at the cabin in Canada for family and construction workers who were building an addition. While eating, he talked about how he had just sat next to Lee Iacocca when he retired from Chrysler and had spent time with Prince Rainier of Monaco and princesses Caroline and Stephanie. Everyone there was in amazement, but Stanley Gault pivoted the conversation. All of a sudden, the discussion became all about the construction workers, their lives and their thoughts. "He treated everyone with dignity and respect," Stephen Gault said. Chris Gault said his father would be the first to admit he never really got over his wife's death. They were married for 63 ... • 30. Goodyear Tires Case Study Essay Case Study: Goodyear: The Aquatred Launch Although Goodyear was the leader in U.S. passenger tire market with 15% market share, the company still had to be very careful in all things done because the competition was so intense. There were so many players in the industry, both branded and private label. Although, each of them had less than 10% of market share, the second in rank, Michelin, was growing very fast in both replacement and OEM market. Also, the private label had become the biggest threat for all branded tires since many branded tire owners intended to replace their tires with private label. The company could lose lots of tire customers who their preferred outlets had no Goodyear tires. Although Goodyear claimed not to want its tires sold in low–priced outlets, they sporadically obtained Goodyear tires. Therefore, Goodyear should answer itself first why it didn't want its tires sold in low–priced outlets? Bad image? Then why Michelin, which had its tires sold in low–priced outlets, still got higher percentage from value–oriented buyers and quality buyers in the survey of 'what brand of tires the owners intended to buy the next time'? New product launched: Aquatred Aquatred was a new tire providing improved driving traction under wet conditions. The question was 'was it the right product for the dealers and for the consumer, as the industry seemed to be turning toward long–life warranties and low–cost private label?' It was also planned to launch during the Winter Olympics in January of 1992. However, the initial inventory of Aquatreds had been made to fit only domestic cars and molds to produce other sizes would not be available until several months after the Olympics. In addition, Goodyear hoped to price the Aquatred at a 10% premium over the existing most– expensive tire. • 31. Gender Inequality Of Equal Pay For Women Introduction: On January 29, 2016, The White House Press Office released a FACT SHEET on new steps to advance equal pay for women. This FACT SHEET states that, "the median wage of a woman working full–time all year in the United States is about $39,600–only 79 percent of a man's median earnings of $50,400" (The White House, 2016). However, many scholars and economists disagree that a gender wage gap exists. In addition, conservative political experts and bloggers promote the notion that gender based wage gap is an idea propagated by feminists, women empowering organizations, and progressives. However, almost all the working women in the United States, and organizations such as Institute for Women's Policy Research (IRWP), and American Association of University Women (AAAU), strongly believe in the existence of the gender wage gap. This sociological issue of equal pay for women is extremely relevant in today's environment where women perform equal work as men in many occupations. Furthermore, with almost 50% of the work force being women, women contributing equally to the family income, and a large number of women being the single parents supporting children, lack of equal pay over time could increase the poverty rates for women (White House, 2016). In addition, IWPR's 2015 report on the status of American women, states that if women receive equal pay for the same work, the poverty rate among women will see a reduction from 8.2% to 4%, an almost 50% reduction (Hess et ... Unfortunately they were stuck in a time when replacing tires was not high on peoples list of pleasantries, which will be explained in greater detail. Goodyear developed what they called the Aquatred tire which was supposed to give greater traction during wet weather and a superior quality that would have the same traction after much use as some tires did when they were brand new. However, they faced a few problems along the way. The price for this new tire was going to be quite expensive. The industry at this time was not looking for a high performance tire so much, but rather something with a guarantee and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to determine which option to choose, Goodyear weighed the advantages and disadvantages of each. The advantage of having a 'premium' tire is being able to charge more, thus generating higher profits. On the other hand, consumer perception at the time was that buying tires is a 'grudge purchase' and they were not willing to pay the extra money for features they didn't want. Goodyear's tires had always been marketed toward the average consumer who wanted a good tire at a good price. The possibility of losing those loyal customers was high. The second option of which distribution channel to go through also has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of moving to a large wholesaler, rather than just independent tire dealers, was greater exposure and possibly higher profits. However, Goodyear's past revenue mainly came from loyal independent dealers, and it could be devastating to business if Goodyear lost that loyal base. In addition to the cost, independent tire dealers didn't feel Aquatred's 'premium' features warranted the high cost or that it would appeal to their customers. In the end Goodyear tried to do too much and forgot their market and what made them so great in the first place. It is shown that in the '80s and early '90s Goodyear was in commanding lead of their competitors in the segment they were targeting. I believe that if they were going to launch the tire, then broadening their channels to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Good Year was not obligated to pay the Plaintiffs since there was no agreement made for payment. The error that was found was bought to Good Year's attention but the attorneys failed to agree on the correct amount. What do you think? • 38. Essay on Cause and Effect Cause and Effect of Price Wars When large sums of money are at stake, many companies bend and flex to their limits to guarantee defeat over the competition. Sometimes they take a loss in one area for a gain in another area. There is a cause for every action the company makes, and in return for their action there is an effect. Although the effect can sometimes be pre–determined, no one is really sure what the outcome is going to be until the time comes. Firestone was forced to recall 6.5 million tires. The tires that were affected buy the recall were the Radial ATX, Radial AXT II, and some Wilderness AT tires. Only the versions of these tires that have "VD" at the beginning of the serial number are affected. These tires are found mainly on the Ford Explorer and the Mercury Mountaineer. "We made some bad tires and we take full responsibility for those" said Firestone executive John Lampe (Naughton). The effect of these 6.5 million recalled tires is starting to show through. "We have seen an alarming number of serious accidents from rollovers of the Explorer after a tire failure" said Firestone's Lampe while arguing his defense in front of the supreme court. Evidence directly relates 103 deaths and 400 injuries to these tires. These statistics were based on 2226 consumer complaints. There are also over 600 deaths alone from the Explorer rolling over, but not all have been investigated to determine if the tires were the cause. • 39. AquaTred Goodyear Tyres: A Competitive Market Analysis A competitive market analysis: AquaTred Goodyear Tires The problem AquaTred Goodyear tires were replacement tires designed in 1992 to provide enhanced traction during poor weather conditions. Trends in the tire industry during the 1970s had resulted in consumers driving less often, replacing tires less, and using more durable and long–lasting radial tires on smaller vehicles. Also, increased foreign competition was now a factor in the tire industry. The industry never quite recovered the level of robustness that had existed previously. AquaTreds were an attempt by Goodyear to offer added incentive to choose its product in the volatile tire market. Because tire purchases have little glamour attached to them, and practicality and price are a premium, Goodyear wanted to offer an added functional advantage to choose its product, as well as added social cache by selecting a premium tire. The AquaTred was positioned to be marketed to higher–end customers that cared about quality as well as price. Preliminary research indicated that the target consumer for the AquaTreds was also more likely to research a product before purchase (Isaacson 1994: 13). But Goodyear dealers were lukewarm about the product, citing the fact that price and the ability to last for longer distances was more of a factor in consumer decision–making. It was a 'boutique' tire, when middle–range products moved the quickest off the shelves (Isaacson 1994: 14). Expanding distribution channels to reach a wider ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, the average weekly earnings for women was 62.1 % that of men in the year 1970. The raw pay difference decreased from 37.9 % to 21.5 % by the year 2007. Despite the progress, the raw wage difference has continually been used to further public policy agendas without offering an explanation behind the difference (An Analysis of Reasons for the Disparity in Wages between Men and Women, 2009). It is true that Ledbetter never succeeded with the case, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company went against the utilitarian theory when they made the choice to underpay her. First, whether an act is wrong or right depending on the consequences of the act. Second, whether an act is good or bad depends on facts about welfare. Third, the sources of value in the world are found in individuals such as people and animals. Fourth, the value of a state of affairs is obtained by getting the average of the values associated with the persons in that state of affairs. Finally, the value of a state of affairs is desired to be as great as possible (Eggleston, 2012). The company should also have considered the consequences that followed the act of discrimination against Ledbetter. This discriminatory act brought more unhappiness than happiness in the sense that it had to have negatively affected the morale of female employees who were working for the company, the emotions of their families, consumers, the stock–holders, and even some of the male employees, thus affecting productivity. This shows that the Company cannot be justified for the discriminatory act against Ledbetter. Gender discrimination might increase inequality at the work place.
