Any parent or teacher can request an evaluation and assessment of their student. Next a prereferral team (PRT) is created; this includes special

Teachers have the challenge of providing the best education for all of the students in their classrooms. Students in the classroom are increasingly
diverse and differ in language, culture, social backgrounds, talents and cognitive skills. As the movement grows to include special educational needs
students in the general education classroom; teachers need to carefully structure the classroom and curriculum to meet the needs of these students.
In this report, I will explain how, why, and what teachers will need to do to accomplish this task.
The Teacher's Role
Teachers should be well versed in the terminology of the special educational needs. The teacher should be aware of each student'sindividualized
education program (IEP) and adapt the lesson plan to strengthen the weakest student; however provide the gifted student with a challenge (Stanberry).
The needs of the gifted student are often overlooked. The reasons are the lack of professional knowledge of the needs of the learner and because there
is a misconception that these students "can make it on their own" and thus have much less need for support (Armstrong and Richards 131–132). Thus it
is a balancing act that needs help in developing and the teacher needs support from administrators and paraeducators (if available).

If a parent believes that their child is in need of special education services, a written request must be sent to the Child Study Team and it is treated as a
formal referral. School district personnel, such as a child's teacher, may suspect, through classroom observations, that a child may have a disability and
can make a referral to the child study team. Within 20 calendar days of receiving a referral, the complete child study team must hold a meeting with the
parent and the student's teacher to determine if an evaluation is warranted and the scope of that evaluation. Typically learning, psychological, and
social assessments are ordered. Additional evaluations that may be ordered include speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychiatric, and/or
