Cultural Commodification InThey Are Taking Our Culture Away
Abstract "They Are Taking our Culture Away" by Elisabeth Kirtsoglou and Dimitrios Theodossopoulos discusses the Garifuna community and their
struggle with cultural commodification and how their community handles and tries to fix it. Throughout "They are Taking our Culture Away"
Elisabeth and Dimitrios looked at the many ways the Garifuna are being commodified. Within this paper what they researched will also be discussed
and also what can be done to help preserve this culture. Commodification as a broad topic will play a large role in this paper, and whether or not
culture is a commodity that should be bought and sold. Commodification will also be talked about in terms with what role it plays in a culture and the
affects that it has on modern tourism and the tourist's outlook on the world and other cultures.
Commodification
Commodification is defined as a way "to make something into an object for commercial use". In terms of culture and tourism, "commodification refers
to using a place's culture and the cultural artifacts to make a large enough profit to support part of the area's economy". Commodification is found
everywhere in modern tourism. Although there may be good things about cultural commodification, such as profit, there are many more bad aspects to
it. For example, commodification alters a tourists' potentiality to have an authentic experience while visiting another culture. This then introduces the
tourist to a false culture and strays them away from the

My Journey To Honduras Essay
Travelling opens people's minds in order to understand and appreciate the world, "We must go beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths and
untrodden depths of the wilderness and travel and explore and tell the world the glories of our journey." by John Hope Franklin. Travelling to
Honduras would be a life lesson and a great way to start my journey into freedom.
Honduras is a very important part of my life. When I was about 4 I came to America with my mother. She seeked better opportunity for us. Although I
don't remember much except for my family If I had the opportunity I would visit in a heartbeat. My family is the main reason I would go to Honduras.

Honduran food is one of my favorite type of food because it's simple yet it taste amazing and it represents family because learning to cook is an
important skill in Honduran culture. It lets you spend time with your mom and grandmothers and the bond you create while cooking is like no other.
There are so many other places to learn about the culture there.
Another thing to do other than learning about the culture is appreciating God's creation in this little country. There are plenty of places to visit and
explore in the country. The beaches are crystal clear and so beautiful. You can see all the creatures swimming around in their environments.
Snorkeling and scuba diving would be great things to do at the beach, especially because West Bay Beach, Roatan has the world's second largest
coral reef. Another incredible and interesting thing to visit and explore is a volcano in Amapala. Honduras is full of fun and incredible things to do.
In conclusion travelling is a great way to explore the world and oneself. Honduras is the right fit for me and the first place I would go if I had a ticket

Essay On Garifuna
I. Introduction Despite a recently enacted property law addressing badly needed reforms and a 12–year multi–million dollar World Bank land titling
project that is in its fifth year, progress in resolving land disputes in Honduras between the indigenous Garifuna peoples and a variety other parties
remains where it has always been: at a virtual standstill. At the heart of the problem lies a reluctance of the Garifuna people to understand, accept, and
participate in the land dispute resolution system. This paper examines the reasons why the Garifuna reject the current land dispute resolution system
and provides practical solutions to the land dispute resolution process. These solutions are designed to incentivize Garifuna participation in the land
dispute resolution system and get the system out of its current ineffectual state of gridlock. This paper begins in Section II by providing context to the
issues in land dispute resolution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Garifuna originate from the 17th century when, on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent, runaway and shipwrecked Africans intermixed with the
native Arawak–Carib population.1 In 1772, a yearlong war over land erupted between the Garifuna and the British resulting from British attempts to
exile the Garifuna from the island.2 Although fighting ceased when each side agreed to sign a peace treaty, the uneasy peace ended when the British
violated the treaty and renewed the war with the Garifuna twenty–seven years later.3 In 1797, the Garifuna were defeated and exiled to the Honduran
island of Roatan. 4 From there, the Garifuna migrated onto the northern Central American coast, establishing settlements from as far east as Nicaragua
to as far west as Belize.5 The Garifuna are "indigenous" to Honduras because they arrived before Honduras achieved independence from Spain in the
1800s.6 From their very beginning, Garifuna have often been on the losing side of disputes over

La Isla De Cozumel Research Paper
La Isla de Cozumel lies 12 miles off the coast of playa del carmen on the east coast of Mexico. The small island is only 30 miles long, but is home to
some of the most beautiful flora, fauna, scenic landscapes, and beaches on the planet. Cozumel is a favorite tourist destination, but more specifically a
favorite within the SCUBA diving community. Cozumel is famed for its vibrant reefs and long stretching drift dives. Drift diving consists of divers
entering the water at one location and being pulled by underwater currents many miles from their original location. Apart from the allure of the beauty
of the island, the island holds a special significance to me.

Massive reefs, the size of greyhound buses, are innumerous surrounding the island. Ocean currents pulled us as we dove, giving us a scenic tour
of the underwater landscapes. But it's not solely the awesome view of Cozumel that holds a significance to me, It's the experiences i've had on the
island. Since diving in Cozumel is something both my father and I really enjoy, during winter break last year, we decided to spend an entire week
in Cozumel doing the "Ultimate Diver Experience" as branded by the travel company. That trip did not disappoint. My dad and I really bonded
there and I think that's definitely a reason for my attachment to Cozumel. We dove twice a day, every day, and it was spectacular. Though my dad
and I have always been close, it was different for me to see him in a relaxed state, as he's usually busy doing 1000 things at once back at home.
Through that trip we really got closer and got to share such an amazing experience together. The trip we took wasn't just to get away from the
world for a while, it was also to celebrate my 18th birthday, and that night of my actual birthday was one that I'll always remember. We decided to
take a taxi into town away from the quiet of the resort we were staying at. Not with any specific location in mind, we shuffled around the city
looking for a good place to spend the evening. We settled on a small bar that all the locals recommended and propped up our feet to watch the
game, the Cowboys were playing! We ordered what i'm convinced were the best chicken nachos on the planet earth, may or may not have downed
the traditional 18th birthday tequila shot, and watched the Cowboys take home the win. But from there the night was not over! My dad had planned
something really special. We packed up and headed back to the resort where my dad had signed us both up to do a night dive. I've always wanted to do
one and it really was incredible. You dive off the both into a pitch

Six Things You Should Know about traveling to Honduras Honduras is the second–largest country in Central America, but one of the poorest. The
Mayan ruins at CopГЎn are the remains of a civilization that flourished there between the fourth and ninth centuries AD. Christopher Columbus landed
in Honduras on his last voyage in 1502. In search of gold and silver, the Spanish conquered the land beginning in 1524. Within twenty years, the native
population decreased to only eight thousand due to disease, abuse, and slave trade with other countries. Central America, freed itself from Spanish rule
in 1821. Honduras, however, did not become independent until 1838. Dictators ruled the country almost like a communist country and there have been
an estimate of about three hundred national rebellions, civil wars, and many changes of government since then. A number of civilians have been
elected president since the 1950s, but several of them have been overthrown by the military. It's not as dangerous as it seems. People think that
Honduras is the most dangerous country in the world, but really, it's actually not as bad as its neighboring countries. While I was there, my cousins that

The Importance Of The Natural World
There are many notions as to how we should live in regards to the natural world. Most all of them come to the same conclusion which is with respect
and preservation. The natural world is constantly changing thanks to the manmade world. As a person, I respect the natural world yet tend to forget
that it is there from time to time. Dillard and Burroughs managed to remind me that there is so much more to the natural world than meets the eye.
The natural world is ever changing, especially in the different seasons. I tend to forget that most days, especially being consumed in my daily life.
Dillard's perspective made me realize that even though we are different species, animals deal with the same problems we do. Some have it worse than...

Isla Roatan was beautiful once you got away from the tourist area, we watched so many people get wrapped up in that one spot they forgot about the
natural wonder around them. To book an excursion to go on a nature walk, or snorkeling was astronomically priced that it wasn't even worth looking
at. Swimming on the reef would have been a beautiful experience, especially to see all the sea life yet they wanted to charge two–hundred dollars a
person. We as humans are learning that we can make a buck off of anything that is natural or beautiful. This concept alone should not be around, it's
not the order of the natural world which we are a part of whether we believe it or not. I resonated with some of Burroughs work as well. Life without
love, science, nature is meaningless. The man–made world takes advantage of that as well. We as a whole use science to make ideal situations, and
experiences without it being of a natural world. So, for myself I will start to be aware of my surroundings, and make an effort to appreciate what is
in front of me. As writers, Dillard and Burroughs really spoke to me. I would have never sat back and thought about what I was lacking in my life
or the beauty I was missing from just taking a walk in the woods. From now on every opportunity I have to go in nature I will take. I want my
children to appreciate what is around them, the only way they will do that is if I

Roatan Research Paper
The Bay Islands consist of the three islands of Roatan, Guanaja, and Utila as well as the smaller islands of Barbareta, Morat, St. Helena, plus 53
cays. These form a small archipelago which lies along the world's second largest barrier reef. Roatan is its jewel, and the largest at 45 miles long
and about three miles wide. The island, which was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1502, is the top of a granite mountain rising from the
sea. This gives Roatan its lush, hilly landscape, which offers dramatic sea view vistas and some of the most exceptional home sites available in the
Carribean. While Roatan is now a part of Honduras, its colorful history has meant that the island's culture feels a world apart. Roatan and the Bay

After the introduction, I asked her to share when and how she started working in online sales and what products she sold. In addition to the online
platform, she had pop shops in campus which allowed her to talk to customers and find out more about their purchasing decisions. For online shopping,
you cannot easily find out if the customer will be the user. Purchases could be for gifts.
She created an online shop in 2012, when she was in college, to help her make extra money. The shop was described as mission–driven with products
that socially conscious and support domestic violence organizations and environmental impact. The shop is on Etsy, because the online platform made
selling easier, and it was a community where socially–conscious customers can easily find products and the "maker is king." Although that platform
had its advantages, she highlighted that one does not have to pick. One can have a store on Etsy and another on a personal domain. The personal shop
can sell on with a slight discount, so returning customers go there first. Etsy is a great resource to get discovered.
Her product line is mainly apparel and accessories. She shared that she tried jewelry and handcrafted products. They can sell well, but her challenge
with it was that she didn't have the experience to talk about specific details when customers had questions. The average profit is 20–30% and the price
was mostly between $18 – $23. She does have a $75 anchor price for a few products

taking pictures on the walkway was not permitted. When I took some, the ship staff told me to put away my camera. Guess what? I still took some
pictures anyway because why not? When we reached the final security checkpoint before boarding the ship, we had to take out our SeaPass cards
(your ship ID). As we left behind security I strolled towards the ship doors I felt very excited. Behold inside, it was... pretty nice I guess, I mean it was

You see Carlos is quite a nice person to talk to with a great sense of humor and Rongxi also has quite an inviting personality but doesn't quite
converse as much. I didn't really get to know them until the 3rd night because I was a little busy. On the 4th day, we stopped off at Roatan for an
excursion to Pristine Bay Beach Resort. On the way to the resort, I was able to witness the condition of the people living there, which I'll say made
me appreciate how we live up in Canada. There was a flight of stairs leading from the reception desk to the infinity pool. There was also a path that
led to the ocean which was an aquamarine color with a darker sapphire lining the outskirts of the island. On the beach after hopping in the ocean
waters, I found a clean water reservoir that led up from underground which is pretty cool. Later, after we finished our time at the beach, we were
driven back to the cruise, which I then took a nap because I was exhausted from swimming. On the next day, we really did nothing but look around at
some shops in Costa Maya in the absolute blistering heat. On the 6th day, we went to the Rio Secreto, also known as the Secret Mayan Underworld.
There we went inside a stalagmite and stalactite–filled cave, where the water is about 5–8 times more calcified than milk. Fun fact: the Mayans believe
that there are 7 levels of the underworld and the more sins you've

How To Visit Central America
If I could visit three countries in Central America I would visit Belize, Costa Rica and Honduras.I would like to visit these countries because these
countries are very fascinating with very beautiful and extraordinary sights to behold. These places have a ton of destinations with lots of history. These
countries also have different and interesting cultures.
The first country I would visit is Belize. The capital of Belize is Belmopan. One of the major cities in Belize is San Ignacio. San Ignacio serves as the
cultural–economic hub of Cayo District. Belize also has beautiful destinations within the country such as Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary and Belize
Barrier Reef. The Belize Barrier Reef is a series of coral reefs straddling the coast of Belize. The Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary contains 16,400
acres of lagoons creeks, logwood swamps, broad leaf forest and pine savanna. This place is also home to hundreds of species of wildlife. A important

The capital of Honduras is Tegucigalpa. The city has diverse light industry, including the production of textiles, sugar, and cigarettes. A major city in
Honduras is San Pedro Sula. San Pedro Sula is the second largest city, after the capital Tegucigalpa. Honduras has monuments of famous ruins such as
The Ruins of Copan. These ruins are mostly famous for the intricate artwork of the stone carvings on altars and buildings. Another monument is San
Fernando de Omoa. This was the fortress of San Fernando which was built between 1759 and 1775. A fact about Honduras's history is that Christopher
Columbus explored the country in 1502. Honduras's government is Democratic Constitutional Republic. Honduras's cultural food is a fusion of
Spanish cuisine, Caribbean cuisine and African cuisine. The most populated religion in Honduras is Roman Catholic. Honduras interested me because
I have been to Honduras and I loved the beaches in Roatan with the angelic

Life Of Pi And Life Of Pi
A boy lost at sea and a man captured by pirates, who knew they could be so similar? Both of these characters experience hardships, that they have to
overcome. Pi is a boy from The Life of Pi who got stranded in the middle of the ocean and Phillip Ashton is a man who was captured by pirates in 1722
but escapes and waits in the Caribbean until he is saved. In the novel Life of Pi, the main character Pi is similar to the castaway Philip Ashton because
they both survive tragic incidents, lose their families, and have to face serious fears every day.
In the novel Life of Pi, the main character Pi is similar to the castaway Philip Ashton because they both had to learn how to survive on their own to
get through their tragic incidents. Pi wanted to give up trying to live. He was too sad and too tired to feel like he could go on. "I was giving up. I
would have given up – if a voice hadn't made itself heard in my heart. The voice said "I will not die. I refuse it. I will make it through this nightmare. I
will beat the odds, as great as they are. I have survived so far, miraculously. Now I will turn miracle into routine. The amazing will be seen every day. I
will put in all the hard work necessary. Yes, so long as God is with me, I will not die. Amen." (Marte, 2001, p. 80). As Pi prays he realizes he has to
fight for his life. He prays to the several gods that he worships, and he knows that if he has the power of god with him, he can live. Pi realizes he
should thank Richard Parker

Around 5 AD the Mayans reached Honduras and for the next 300 years they remained in control. Christopher Columbus landed in Honduras in
1502 on his voyage between Hispaniola and the Darien peninsula of Panama. In 1525, Spain began to seek after Honduras. It is only in 1539 that
they accomplish this after struggles with the native population and rivals representing Spanish powers. There were deposits of gold and silver in
the 1540's, but the deposits were gone at the end of the 16th century. Through the early 20th century, Honduras was governed by a series of
Caudillos in the 1930's and 1940's. The weak civilian governments prompted the army to assume a greater role from the late 1950's forward. At the
end of the war in 1989 elections were held. The two parties were the Partio Nacional (PN) and Partio Libera (PL). The PN candidate Rafael
Leonardo Callejas won. The PL gained presidency and legislature in 1994 and 1997. The military was controlled by the Civilian government by
1999. In 1998, hurricane Mitch swept across Honduras leaving almost 15,000 people dead and causing $3.8 billion in damages. In 2005 Manuel
Zelaya Rosales won the presidential elections defeating Porfirio Lobo. Following Zelayas call for change in constitution in 2009, the head of congress
was in charge. In 2009 Lobo was elected

Isolationism And Neutrality During War Of Foreign
The United States had developed the idea of isolationism and neutrality during war of foreign to protect their peace, country, people, interests. But a
problem is that the American interest located in or dependent on foreign countries led the united states to intervene in those ares. The United States
"jobs, growth, price stability, and economic security in the United States all depend substantially on events abroad and the interaction with them of
internal economic developments and policies. The United States is no longer a self contained continent, but rather an integral component of a deeply
interdependent global economy". Overthrow: America 's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq, this is a book of short stories about the
overthrow of 14 countries by the United States since 1893 started with Hawaii and ended with Iraq. Through this book, we will talk about the reasons
behind that led the United States to overthrow these governments, and the tactics used in the different countries. The reasons behind that led the United
States to overthrow these fourteen governments
In order to overthrow foreign countries, the government should give reasons for doing so. American government often claimed that they wanted to
protect American prosperity, business interest, against the Soviet and Communism, protect nation security, and against terrorism. But what is the main
reasons behind those claims? Part one: The Imperial Era

Personal Narrative: My Love For Exploration
I consider myself a bit of an adrenaline junkie. I spend my days participating in high–risk activities such as riding my bike without a helmet, or
guzzling down pop without checking its calorie content, sometimes both at the same time! Aside from my bravery, and a bit of humor, I believe I
can most contribute to McMaster and its community by doing what I do best; being me. In a time where the world is trying to make you like
everyone else, I can definitely say that I am Nick; the curious, passionate and humorous, Nick. My passion is expressed as my curiosity–driven love
for exploration. This compelling force has driven me to many new experiences, including a marine biology field study in Roatan, Honduras. The first

Trash Pollution In Guatemala
RoatГЎn Island off the edge of Guatemala has recently discovered a five–mile–long pile of trash. The heavy rains from the hurricanes this past fall is
where this trash has come from. Guatemala's government doesn't have a formal garbage collection. RoatГЎn Island is located about fifteen miles off
the edge of Guatemala. Trash pollution is becoming worse and worse in the Caribbean. Trash in ocean is harming more than 600 species worldwide.
From what we can tell from the photos of the trash in RoatГЎn that the trash is anything from plastic bags to leather. Guatemalan people aren't
disposing of their trash correctly; all they do is juts pile their trash up on the side of the riverbanks and when the rain comes and washes it into the
water and then ends up in the ocean. The government has got to get a fund/organization to get this problem taken care of.
Background
RoatГЎn is an island 15 miles off the coast of the Guatemala See figure 1. Recently discovered in the last three weeks that a five–mile–long pile of
trash is floating towards the island from Guatemala. The Motagua River (see figure 2) is where this trash has come from. Guatemala is a country that
has never been taught to throw away their trash, littering is the norm for the locals. There are many villages that live along the side of the river and
lake that feed into the ocean. Lake Izabal is the highest populated for trash. The Guatemalan government has zero trash regulations for their

Cornell College Reflection
7.What summer experience has been of significance to you? Why?
Summer of 2017 at Cornell's condensed 6 weeks semester with credit, taught by their professors was a sheer pleasure.
It gave me a true preview of the college experience.
I learn to speak with not talk to my professors and teaching assistants when I needed help and to discuss class topics to further my knowledge by
exploring the topics with them in conversations.
I learned to plan, such as checking my email frequently for posted assignments a week before they were due, instead of a day, like in high school.
I had to learn to manage my time more effectively.
No adult or parents telling me what to do; I was completely free.
The Cornell Summer College allowed me to gain the responsibility that comes with real freedom.
8.Have you traveled to or lived in different localities? If so, where?
My parents have always adhered to our seeing the USA. Our travels have been on holidays, when our parents have conventions, and a combination of
exploring America's historic sites, national monuments, learning about history through museums, unique settings such as Sturbridge Village, and
seeing colleges.
As my resume shows I have been to Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, California (both the
San Francisco and Los Angeles areas), Illinois (Chicago), Rhode Island, Arizona, Maryland (Baltimore), and Florida. Winter weather and friends have
made our international

Cultural Commodification InThey Are Taking Our Culture Away

  • 1. Cultural Commodification InThey Are Taking Our Culture Away Abstract "They Are Taking our Culture Away" by Elisabeth Kirtsoglou and Dimitrios Theodossopoulos discusses the Garifuna community and their struggle with cultural commodification and how their community handles and tries to fix it. Throughout "They are Taking our Culture Away" Elisabeth and Dimitrios looked at the many ways the Garifuna are being commodified. Within this paper what they researched will also be discussed and also what can be done to help preserve this culture. Commodification as a broad topic will play a large role in this paper, and whether or not culture is a commodity that should be bought and sold. Commodification will also be talked about in terms with what role it plays in a culture and the affects that it has on modern tourism and the tourist's outlook on the world and other cultures. Commodification Commodification is defined as a way "to make something into an object for commercial use". In terms of culture and tourism, "commodification refers to using a place's culture and the cultural artifacts to make a large enough profit to support part of the area's economy". Commodification is found everywhere in modern tourism. Although there may be good things about cultural commodification, such as profit, there are many more bad aspects to it. For example, commodification alters a tourists' potentiality to have an authentic experience while visiting another culture. This then introduces the tourist to a false culture and strays them away from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Essay On Garifuna I. Introduction Despite a recently enacted property law addressing badly needed reforms and a 12–year multi–million dollar World Bank land titling project that is in its fifth year, progress in resolving land disputes in Honduras between the indigenous Garifuna peoples and a variety other parties remains where it has always been: at a virtual standstill. At the heart of the problem lies a reluctance of the Garifuna people to understand, accept, and participate in the land dispute resolution system. This paper examines the reasons why the Garifuna reject the current land dispute resolution system and provides practical solutions to the land dispute resolution process. These solutions are designed to incentivize Garifuna participation in the land dispute resolution system and get the system out of its current ineffectual state of gridlock. The Garifuna originate from the 17th century when, on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent, runaway and shipwrecked Africans intermixed with the native Arawak–Carib population.1 In 1772, a yearlong war over land erupted between the Garifuna and the British resulting from British attempts to exile the Garifuna from the island.2 Although fighting ceased when each side agreed to sign a peace treaty, the uneasy peace ended when the British violated the treaty and renewed the war with the Garifuna twenty–seven years later.3 In 1797, the Garifuna were defeated and exiled to the Honduran island of Roatan. 4 From there, the Garifuna migrated onto the northern Central American coast, establishing settlements from as far east as Nicaragua to as far west as Belize.5 The Garifuna are "indigenous" to Honduras because they arrived before Honduras achieved independence from Spain in the 1800s.6 From their very beginning, Garifuna have often been on the losing side of disputes over ... The small island is only 30 miles long, but is home to some of the most beautiful flora, fauna, scenic landscapes, and beaches on the planet. Cozumel is a favorite tourist destination, but more specifically a favorite within the SCUBA diving community. Cozumel is famed for its vibrant reefs and long stretching drift dives. Drift diving consists of divers entering the water at one location and being pulled by underwater currents many miles from their original location. But it's not solely the awesome view of Cozumel that holds a significance to me, It's the experiences i've had on the island. Since diving in Cozumel is something both my father and I really enjoy, during winter break last year, we decided to spend an entire week in Cozumel doing the "Ultimate Diver Experience" as branded by the travel company. That trip did not disappoint. My dad and I really bonded there and I think that's definitely a reason for my attachment to Cozumel. We dove twice a day, every day, and it was spectacular. Though my dad and I have always been close, it was different for me to see him in a relaxed state, as he's usually busy doing 1000 things at once back at home. Through that trip we really got closer and got to share such an amazing experience together. The trip we took wasn't just to get away from the world for a while, it was also to celebrate my 18th birthday, and that night of my actual birthday was one that I'll always remember. We decided to take a taxi into town away from the quiet of the resort we were staying at. Not with any specific location in mind, we shuffled around the city looking for a good place to spend the evening. We settled on a small bar that all the locals recommended and propped up our feet to watch the game, the Cowboys were playing! We ordered what i'm convinced were the best chicken nachos on the planet earth, may or may not have downed the traditional 18th birthday tequila shot, and watched the Cowboys take home the win. But from there the night was not over! My dad had planned something really special. We packed up and headed back to the resort where my dad had signed us both up to do a night dive. The Mayan ruins at CopГЎn are the remains of a civilization that flourished there between the fourth and ninth centuries AD. Christopher Columbus landed in Honduras on his last voyage in 1502. In search of gold and silver, the Spanish conquered the land beginning in 1524. Within twenty years, the native population decreased to only eight thousand due to disease, abuse, and slave trade with other countries. Central America, freed itself from Spanish rule in 1821. Honduras, however, did not become independent until 1838. Dictators ruled the country almost like a communist country and there have been an estimate of about three hundred national rebellions, civil wars, and many changes of government since then. A number of civilians have been elected president since the 1950s, but several of them have been overthrown by the military. It's not as dangerous as it seems. Swimming on the reef would have been a beautiful experience, especially to see all the sea life yet they wanted to charge two–hundred dollars a person. This concept alone should not be around, it's not the order of the natural world which we are a part of whether we believe it or not. I resonated with some of Burroughs work as well. Life without love, science, nature is meaningless. The man–made world takes advantage of that as well. We as a whole use science to make ideal situations, and experiences without it being of a natural world. So, for myself I will start to be aware of my surroundings, and make an effort to appreciate what is in front of me. As writers, Dillard and Burroughs really spoke to me. I would have never sat back and thought about what I was lacking in my life or the beauty I was missing from just taking a walk in the woods. On the way to the resort, I was able to witness the condition of the people living there, which I'll say made me appreciate how we live up in Canada. There was a flight of stairs leading from the reception desk to the infinity pool. There was also a path that led to the ocean which was an aquamarine color with a darker sapphire lining the outskirts of the island. On the beach after hopping in the ocean waters, I found a clean water reservoir that led up from underground which is pretty cool. Later, after we finished our time at the beach, we were driven back to the cruise, which I then took a nap because I was exhausted from swimming. On the next day, we really did nothing but look around at some shops in Costa Maya in the absolute blistering heat. On the 6th day, we went to the Rio Secreto, also known as the Secret Mayan Underworld. There we went inside a stalagmite and stalactite–filled cave, where the water is about 5–8 times more calcified than milk. Fun fact: the Mayans believe that there are 7 levels of the underworld and the more sins you've ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pi wanted to give up trying to live. He was too sad and too tired to feel like he could go on. "I was giving up. I would have given up – if a voice hadn't made itself heard in my heart. The voice said "I will not die. I refuse it. I will make it through this nightmare. I will beat the odds, as great as they are. I have survived so far, miraculously. Now I will turn miracle into routine. The amazing will be seen every day. I will put in all the hard work necessary. Yes, so long as God is with me, I will not die. Amen." (Marte, 2001, p. 80). The government has got to get a fund/organization to get this problem taken care of. Background RoatГЎn is an island 15 miles off the coast of the Guatemala See figure 1. • 27. Cornell College Reflection 7.What summer experience has been of significance to you? Why? Summer of 2017 at Cornell's condensed 6 weeks semester with credit, taught by their professors was a sheer pleasure. It gave me a true preview of the college experience. I learn to speak with not talk to my professors and teaching assistants when I needed help and to discuss class topics to further my knowledge by exploring the topics with them in conversations. Our travels have been on holidays, when our parents have conventions, and a combination of exploring America's historic sites, national monuments, learning about history through museums, unique settings such as Sturbridge Village, and seeing colleges.
