program, the opportunity to receive a reimbursement of up to $1,000 for each month the veteran is enrolled in the program. The only stipulations to

1997 and later, proudly advanced to the rank of a sergeant. In 2003, Turner suffered from a traumatic injury while serving in Iraq. In suffocating
130–degrees fahrenheit heat, Turner fell into a coma and nearly died of heart failure. Immediately, she was brought to the Walter Reed Army Medical

Veterans Affairs/Veterans Administration is around sixty one point eighty five billion dollars, yet with all this kinds of money, the Veterans Affairs

Many veterans are likely to suffer from Depression, Substance Abuse and/or Dependence, various phobias, sleeplessness, and Post–Traumatic Stress
Disorder (PTSD) (Palmer, 2011). Some Veterans also have physical disabilities from combat wounds and it isn't unlikely to manage such pains with
pharmaceuticals that also lead to addiction. The stigma that permeates the military culture surrounding mental health and the ability to adjust to any
condition within the military is always present, often making seeking treatment taboo (Jarvis, 2009). Historical Information The United States Military
was established in 1775, which coincided with the Revolutionary War. In 1776, the government boosted enlistments into the military for the
Revolutionary War by providing pensions to disabled soldiers. In 1789, the Department of War was established, which would later be renamed the
Department of Defense in 1949 (www.defense.gov/about/). The establishment of the military brought on the development of theveteran culture. As
stated before, Veterans span many cultures and generations (Hobbs, 2008). The Veterans still alive today have served in the most recent wars being;
World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq
–Desert Storm, Iraq–Operation Freedom, and Afghanistan. Many older generations of Veterans have expressed their

One of the most serious problems facing all veterans today is the lack of proper healthcare. Soldiers, sailors and airmen are leaving active duty without
having proper healthcare to cover their physical or mental injuries. The department responsible for veteran's healthcare is the Department of Veterans
Affairs. (VA) According to The department of Veterans Affairs website, "TheUnited States Department of Veterans Affairs(VA) is a government–run
military veteran benefit system with Cabinet–level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans' benefits for veterans, their families,
and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational rehabilitation,
survivors' benefits, medical benefits and burial benefits. It is administered by the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs." The VA, who was
formerly called the Veterans Administration, was established 21 July 1930, to consolidate and coordinate government activities affecting war veterans.
The VA encompassed the functions of the former U.S. Veterans ' Bureau, the Bureau of Pensions of the Interior Department and the National Home for
Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. On 25 October 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed legislation creating a new federal Cabinet–level Department of
Veterans Affairs to replace the Veterans Administration effective 15 March 1989 (V.A.)

Those veterans who have complex medical problems and are in need of more help and support can work with the social worker to find out how
arrangements can be made for future assistance. VA social workers specialize in this type of help. They provide many services and are very helpful in
answering questions and giving advice.
Social Work in the Department of Veterans Affairs has been doing a fantastic job since 1925. The first year staffing consisted of fourteen social
workers who were placed in psychiatric hospitals and twenty–two placed in regional offices throughout the country. Currently there are over 3,600
social workers on staff throughout the Nation. The work has evolved into a professional service for our troops, veterans, and their families with
treatment responsibilities available for patients who need care. Social workers in the VA help patients and families to achieve a high level of
adjustment both for the warriors that were once on a battle–field, and the families of those who are away.
Military Social Work, because of its existence and commitment, will always continue to provide help to those in need. Whether it is housing for the
homeless, or wheelchairs to those who have trouble walking, social workers are there to listen, and take action in the modern day health care

after the First World War could not forever be kept at bay." (The Great Depression and World War II;Kennedy, David). World War II began in the
year 1939 and lasted until 1945. (history.com,Pearl Harbor) Many of the issues that arose during the Second World War was initial baggage from
the First World War. The Treaty of Versailles was the reason why the First World War ended between the Allied Powers and Germany. (history.com).
During this time, the United States wanted as little involvement with Europe's controversies. Meanwhile, the United States did not know at the time
that Japan was a threat to our country because of unresolved issues prior to Pearl Harbor. (history.com). The common denominator between both of
our countries in this era was that we were both in financial crises. (Gilder Legrman, Institure of American History) The United States was suffering
from the Great Depression and Japan was in a financial crisis. One of the reasons that the United States was not in favor of Japan was because we
