Synthesis Of George Washington
George Washington Synthesis In 1789, when George Washington was elected president, he became
an important figure who later impacts American history and future generations, because he
symbolizes all the virtues this nation believes in and stands for. People visualize Washington as a
hero for all his acts of bravery, leadership and dedication to the United States. He fought to build
and expand the reputation of America. Washington's mythology inspires America due to his morals,
being highly respected and his passion for his beloved nation. Many artist believed George
Washington had the look of power and control, so they would paint, sketch or sculpt images of him
to create that "powerful" setting. For example, Emanuel Leutze in 1851, ... Show more content on

But in an article by Smithsonian Institution Press, they said that the public was not happy with the
"attracted controversy and criticism" the sculpture brought. Many believed that George Washington
being half–naked in a toga, with a sword and point upwards to the heavens, was an insult. Only
because it leans more on the Greek mythology than American mythology, making people feel like
Greek virtues are the only goldy way. A portrait of George Washington was drawn by an artist
named William Bingham and his wife, where they were trying to capture the morals he stood for.
Another source talking about the portrait, Gilbert Stewart states, "this painting was a gift to former
British Prime Minister (...) a lasting peace between Britain and America." This painting was suppose
to symbolize peace between the two countries for the world to see. In the image, Washington stands
with a sword in his hand, a gold chair sitting behind him, books scattered all over a table and his
welcoming hand held out in front of him. All these represent his values; sword symbolizing the
military, books symbolizing his knowledge and education, and his out stretched hand symbolizing a
warm welcome. In the same article, another source by Jill Lepore states that Washington was a boy
who "he copied out a set of sixteenth–century Italian 'Rules of Civility'" (Lepore 8). He strived to
become more educated boy so he could grow to be an intelligent man. By making

Washington, George (1732–99), commander in chief of the Continental army during the American
Revolution, and later the first president of the United States. He symbolized qualities of discipline,
aristocratic duty, military orthodoxy, and persistence in adversity that his contemporaries
particularly valued as marks of mature political leadership.
Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the eldest son of
Augustine Washington, a Virginia planter, and Mary Ball Washington. Although Washington had
little or no formal schooling, his early notebooks indicate that he read in geography, military history,
agriculture, deportment, and composition and that he showed some aptitude in surveying and simple

Washington resigned his commission in 1754, but in May 1755 he began service as a volunteer
aide–de–camp to the British general Edward Braddock, who had been sent to Virginia with a force
of British regulars. A few kilometers from Fort Duquesne, Braddock's men were ambushed by a
band of French soldiers and Native Americans. Braddock was mortally wounded, and Washington,
who behaved gallantly during the conflict, narrowly escaped death. In August 1755 he was
appointed (with the rank of colonel) to command the Virginia regiment, charged with the defense of
the long western frontier of the colony. War between France and Britain was officially declared in
May 1756, and while the principal struggle moved to other areas, Washington succeeded in keeping
the Virginia frontier relatively safe.
The American Revolution
After the death of his elder half brother Lawrence, Washington inherited the plantation known as
Mount Vernon. A spectacular rise in the price of tobacco during the 1730s and '40s, combined with
his marriage in 1759 to Martha Custis, a young widow with a large estate, made him one of the
wealthiest men in Virginia. Elected to the House of Burgesses in 1758, he served conscientiously but
without special distinction for 17 years. He also gained political and administrative experience as
justice of the peace for Fairfax County.
Like other Virginia planters, Washington became alarmed by the repressive measures of the British

George Washington Political
The year was 1796, and the newborn nation of America was rapidly changing and its citizens were
quickly dividing. Britain had become a problem in the recent years due to the impressment of
American soldiers, excessive amounts of imports destroying the economy, and American exports
being heavily taxed and regulated (John Jay's Treaty, 1794–95, n.d.). Foreign affairs were not the
only problem contributing to the pot of conflict that was boiling over. At home, the nation was
becoming politically divided when two opposing political parties were formed despite the warnings
of the now retiring George Washington. It was a time of uncertainty, yet a time of hope as well.
Although there were foreign and domestic issues breaking out across America, the next presidential
election was right around the corner, and hope of more stable foreign relations and a brighter future
for America was on the line. George Washington saw "the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

voter blocs of this election. New England leaned largely in favor of John Adams and the Federalists,
while the South tended to prefer Thomas Jefferson and the Democratic–Republicans. New England
had an economy driven by manufacturing, wanted a large, central government, and supported the
abolishment of slavery, so it was apparent that the New England states would be the primary source
of voters for the Federalist candidate. The southern region of America, which included such states as
Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia, would be the primary backers of Democratic–Republican

George Washington As A General Essay
George Washington as a General.
George Washington was commander in chief of the continental army during the American
revolutionary war. Although some argue that George Washington was an excellent leader, others
argue that he didn't know what he was doing and that it was out of luck that he won the
revolutionary war, George Washington was without a doubt a fine general, because George
Washington played roles in which he showed exemplified character and leadership, he stuck by his
men and led the colonial forces to victory over the British and became a hero, he and his continental
army spread ideals of freedom, liberty and showed there is hope for new heroes in the world.

General Washington stuck by his soldiers through integrity. As explained in the article, lessons in
leadership from George Washington, by Major Graham H. Bernstein. Bernstein says, "integrity is
more than personal honesty and morality. It is also necessary to developing trust between the leader
and the followers." Through this point, Washington and his soldiers developed a friendship with
each other. They either work together or end up nowhere. George Washington like an effective
leader, communicated an inspiring vision to him and his followers and together they choose to live
it. His followers believed in Washington and Washington believed in his followers. With hard work
and devotion, Washington and his soldiers would win the war as a team. The article also explains
Washington's tireless commitment to his troops; he did not leave his soldiers once during a conflict
and he endured the same pain as his men did. Washington shows faithfulness to his soldiers and his
nation. Washington knew his army was under trained and that they were going against the toughest
militia there was at the time, but he still chooses to stick with his soldiers and not flee the scene. His
forgoing observations point the picture of a leader who inspired the confidence of the people he led.
Finally, Washington and his Continental Army, spread ideals of freedom, liberty and showed there
are heroes in this world. The British not allowing the colonies freedom bothered America,

Even though Washington was used to commanding a small militia, he had an excellent strategy. His
first move was to occupy Dorchester Heights where he brought supplies from Fort Ticonderoga and
forced the British to evacuate Boston. Throughout the war for Independence, Washington continued
to use his excellent strategies. His strategies he used on the Hessians in Trenton was the surprise
attack. Most of the battles he fought, he planned out very well. He failed sometimes but that didn't
stop him from fighting. Washington was well organized, paid attention to details, and required hard
work and effort from his troops. During every war Washington would visit his home ten times, he
stayed in Valley Forge. During the wars he would also write letters to help his army by giving cattle

Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention in 1787, which devised a new form of
federal government for the United States. Following his election as president in 1789, he worked to
unify rival factions in the fledgling nation. He supported Alexander Hamilton's programs to satisfy
all debts, federal and state, established a permanent seat of government, implemented an effective
tax system, and created a national bank. In avoiding war with Great Britain, he guaranteed a decade
of peace and profitable trade by securing the Jay Treaty in 1795, despite intense opposition from the
Jeffersonians. He remained non–partisan, never joining the Federalist Party, although he largely
supported its policies. Washington's Farewell Address was an influential primer on civic virtue,
warning against partisanship, sectionalism, and involvement in foreign wars. He retired from the
presidency in 1797, returning to his home and plantation at Mount Vernon.
Upon his death, Washington was eulogized as "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of
his countrymen" by Representative Henry Lee III of Virginia. He was revered in life and in death;

Characteristics Of George Washington
George Washington, without a doubt can be considered the "indispensable man" because of his
absolute force of character, his remarkable reputation, he never abused or wanted to glorify his
power, and he voluntarily surrendered power when a job was done. Without him, this country would
most definitely not be what it is today; he did have his flaws as well. For example, as a soldier he
was said to sometimes act rashly and have poor judgement on the battle field, he was addicted to
gambling, and visited quite a few brothels most frequently. People have said he was vain,
pretentious, and hot tempered; sounds like a typical man but back to the topic. Even though he had
his flaws, which who doesn't, he was extremely admired, respected, and revered by his peers and the
public and was beyond trustworthy.
President George Washington filled a need for someone that American's could trust. He took up the
reigns against the war King George III, who at the time was loved by his people, turned on everyone
and started a war. Once that happened Americans embraced Washington whole–heartedly and with
open arms and it was said that the man was invincible, God favored him, and honestly, what man
wouldn't ride into battle with someone like that to follow? The first President was said to live by a
quote that he took to heart from Shakespeare's play Hamlet. In the play Polonius says: "This above

George Washington Neutrality
George Washington
George Washington is often noted for his accomplishments as both the first President of the United
States and for his bravery during the French Revolution, but his seemingly unpopular actions
displayed true integrity and will to do what is best for his country. He placed the well–being of the
United States before his personal beliefs. Although opponents will often disagree, President
Washington's decision to ratify Jay's Treaty in 1795 provided the United States with a necessary
alliance that ultimately neutralized future relations with Great Britain and set the precedent for
executive power. After signing the Treaty of Paris in 1783 that ended the Revolutionary War which
granted the United States its independence from Britain, tension remained constant between the two
nations. Prior to Jay's Treaty, Washington announced a Proclamation of Neutrality in 1793 that
proclaimed the United States' bipartisanism in the war between France and Great Britain. He
believed America was too young and unstable to risk a conflict with another country. In remaining
neutral, Washington hoped to preserve crucial trade relations with both countries ("The
Proclamation of Neutrality 1793"). During the French Revolution, the British were still allowed to
export goods to be sold in the American markets, yet would not allow American ships to use British
ports. Britain imposed tariffs and restrictions on American trade, leading to even more tension
between the two nations

militia, with responsibility for defending the frontier. Assured that the Virginia frontier was safe
from French attack, Washington left the army in 1758.

it is to dislodge them after they have got possession," "Government is not reason; it is not eloquent;
it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.", "It is better to offer no excuse

George, his younger sister and brothers, and the farm, were left in the care of his mother. At the age
of twenty, George, who had no experience or training as a soldier, applied to the governor for a
commission in the militia. In February, 1753 he was commissioned as a major and put in charge of
training militia in southern Virginia. Washington immediately began reading books on tactics and
military affairs. In October, 1753 Washington learned that Robert Dinwiddie, the acting governor of
Virginia, planned to send a message to the French military commander in the Ohio River Valley.
Dinwiddie intended to warn the French that they must withdraw their troops from the region. The
French wanted the Ohio River Valley for fur trading, but the British wanted it for farming.

Washington set out into the dangerous wilderness. With him went Christopher Gist, a frontier guide,

Next, Washington appeared in military uniform at the Second Continental Congress in May, 1775.
This appearance showed his support for the militia and his determination to fight. Washington was
voted general and commander–in–chief of the Continental Army on June 15, 1775. The delegates
who voted for him were impressed by his strong presence and military experience. He did not
hesitate to whip the army or even execute the people who failed to follow orders. Washington
always came up with plans that kept his army one step ahead of the enemy. After leading many
tough battles during the American Revolutionary War, Washington defeated Lord Cornwallis' British
army at Yorktown, causing the British to surrender and effectively ending the American
Revolutionary War. In December 1783, Washington bid farewell to his officers and resigned from
the Continental Army. In 1789, 69 members of Congress elected George Washington as the first
President of the United States. Washington was an American war hero so he was worthy of the
honor. Washington thought he had done enough to help America. He wanted to go home and live a
quiet life. He did not want to become President because of all the conflicts that would be attached to
a new government and was also concerned with his old age. After months of rejecting the idea of the
presidency, Washington accepted Congress' decision. John Adams became Washington's vice
president. On April 30, 1789, George Washington stood

enjoys the protection of a Free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even of
his personal services to the defense of it." ("George Washington"). "I have no other view than to
promote the public good, and am unambitious of honors not founded in the approbation of my

George Washington Leadership
George Washington was born in Virginia in 1732. Contrary to popular belief, he never chopped
down a cherry tree, and people should find it appalling that we need to make up a lie about one of
the most honest men in our country's history. His character was not inherited. He sought after every
ounce of his integrity from childhood through adulthood. This is why the Revolution did not make
George Washington. The Revolution revealed him. He also learned the value of hard work at a very
young age. At 16, he was already surveying land and would go on to survey in Ohio. He also loved
agriculture and the science behind it. In his library at Mount Vernon, he kept the most updated books
on agricultural techniques. He was so eager to learn about the latest agricultural advances that a
historian actually called him our nation's first scientific farmer. This experience helped him in battle
when it was necessary for him to try methods that were largely unconventional at the time. In 1754,
Washington became a Lieutenant colonel in the British military. It was during this time that he
fought against the Indians and the French. These long years of battle also saw his life spared
multiple times, which led some of his followers to believe that he could not be killed. However,
Washington was quick to assure them that this was not the case. Shortly after these battles,
Washington returned home where he married a widow named Martha Curtis. When Washington
returned to public service, he held

The Articles of Confederation did not seem to better Washington's opinion of the Government.
Therefore, he did what he could to influence a strong central government, such as hosting
conferences at his estate. In doing so, he became part of the Federalist Party. Due to his influence in
the Constitutional Convention and his role as a war hero in the Revolutionary War, George
Washington became a popular politician. On February fourth, 1789, the Electoral College chose
Washington as the first president, and his runner up, John Adams, as his vice president. Washington

Washington was not the usual president when he was in office. "He did not interfere with the

concerned about how foreign affairs would affect his young country. As the French Revolution
broke into a major war, Washington was urged to take a side. His Secretary of State, Thomas

George Washington As A Measure Of Morals
George Washington was the first person to represent the United States. Besides that do you know
anything else or other information about George Washington? From all the wars he's headed, years
in the office, and being on the one dollar bill, there's a lot more to the name George Washington. His
childhood was considered a measure of morals, (although the chopping down of the cherry tree story
was not true), he was the captain of the Unites States Continental Army going into wars, and he
helped develop the Declaration of independence.

children to the huge point where they were very annoyed and bothered.
When George turned 11 his father passed away. After his father passed away, he went to live with
his older step brother, Lawrence. Had George's father lived for more years he would have attended a
nice school in England. Instead he went to decent school near Fredericksburg and he had tutors to
help him get through school.
When Lawrence passed away it was kind of a rough time for George losing everyone and not being
around anyone. Lawrence left a lot of land to his wife and little brother George. Around this time,
George was 20 years old. Lawrence's wife got re–married and sold the property to

The first major battle that General Washington fought, the battle of Long Island, was a bloody one.
Washington and his men fought bravely but the British were too strong. Washington's men were
forced to retreat. Though out the summer there were many smaller battles fought. Towards the end
of the year, General Cornwallis of the British army chased Washington and his soldiers across New
Jersey. In the winter of 1776, German soldiers, paid by the British to fight, were chasing Washington
and his men. When they came to the Delaware River, Washington and his men took all the boats
across the river so the Germans could not cross. After Washington and his men crossed the river,
they devised a plan to capture the Germans on Christmas day. They would turn around, go back
across the river while the Germans celebrated Christmas, surround and capture them. Everything
worked out perfectly and Washington captured or killed all the German soldiers. Following the
capture of the Germans Washington and his men won two major victories at Trenton and Princeton.
These were battles that gave new hope to the colonies. After Princeton and Trenton Washington
wintered at Morristown and built up his army. Following their winter at Morristown, Washington's
army moved south to stop the British General Howe from moving into Philadelphia. Washington's
army was not successful and they suffered a string of defeats at the hand of Howe.

The Characteristics Of George Washington
The history of our nation has been defined by the population and the great leaders that in times of
horrible circumstances were able to right our American ship of republicanism. There have been
many great men since our revolution, but one of the single most important men that defined our
nation for the next 242 years was George Washington. Through his ability to handle many men's
ideas, be strong in his ideologies and lack a tyrannical lust for power; Washington was able to plant
the seeds of the revolution and help allow the U.S to reach their greatest bloom.

Historical Significance
Washington's significance cannot be overstated. He led the Continental Army to victory over the
British. He believed in a strong federal government which greatly influenced the nation during his
eight years in office. He did not allow others to trap him as royalty. He worked on the principle of
merit. His warning against foreign entanglements was heeded by future presidents. By declining a
third term, he set up the precedent of a two–term limit.
Events and Accomplishments of George Washington's Presidency:
Washington's administration was one of precedents with many standards that are still followed. For
example, he relied on his cabinet for advice. Since his cabinet appointments went unchallenged,
presidents are generally able to choose their own cabinets. He chose a successor for Chief Justice
John Jay from outside the bench instead of based on seniority.
Domestically, Washington was able to stop the first real challenge to federal authority with the
suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. Pennsylvania farmers were refusing to pay a tax and
he sent troops to ensure compliance.
In foreign affairs, Washington was a huge proponent of neutrality. He declared the Proclamation of

Again Washington avoided death, by his account there were four bullet holes through his coat and
two horses shot out from under him (2). Washington stature gained in popularity, he also acquired a
new reputation. He emerged from the battle a hero, and Virginia governor Robert Dinwiddie
rewarded him with promotion to full colonel. Washington was known for harsh punishments like
giving 500 lashes for laziness. He even boasted of a building a gallows 40 feet high to hang
deserters. Later that year Dinwiddie gave him command of all Virginia forces.
Tried to Settle Down
Washington resigned at war's end and retired to Mount Vernon. Now at the conclusion of the French
and Indian war the retired Colonel Washington not yet 30 years old got married (2). His wife Martha
was a widow of one of Virginia's wealthiest men; this marriage gave Washington the property,
slaves, and wealth had dreamed of. By 1759 George and Martha Washington were among the most
celebrated families in Virginia. They enjoyed a comfortable life during these times, hosting
countless parties. He also found time for the hobbies of a Virginia gentleman, fox hunting, plays,
billiards, cards, dancing, and fishing. For 15 years he devoted himself to his legislative work and his

He was defeated in elections for the House of Burgesses in 1755 and 1757, but won in 1758. In

the battlefield he relied on a trial and error approach. He often had to fly by the seat of his pants and
go with his instincts (Twohig 4). The lack of soldiers and supplies were some of the many trials he
faced. The army often ran out of food (Alden 167). Sometimes the troops had to march barefoot in
snow because they had no shoes (Milton 71). Washington was just fifty–two years old when he left
the army. But he felt like an old man. George told a group of officers, "I have grown both blind and

At the age of fifty–seven, on April 30, 1789, George Washington took the oath of the President of

established our country's financial system. During his presidency the Indian threat east of

Synthesis Of George Washington

  • 1. Synthesis Of George Washington George Washington Synthesis In 1789, when George Washington was elected president, he became an important figure who later impacts American history and future generations, because he symbolizes all the virtues this nation believes in and stands for. People visualize Washington as a hero for all his acts of bravery, leadership and dedication to the United States. He fought to build and expand the reputation of America. Washington's mythology inspires America due to his morals, being highly respected and his passion for his beloved nation. Many artist believed George Washington had the look of power and control, so they would paint, sketch or sculpt images of him to create that "powerful" setting. For example, Emanuel Leutze in 1851, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But in an article by Smithsonian Institution Press, they said that the public was not happy with the "attracted controversy and criticism" the sculpture brought. Many believed that George Washington being half–naked in a toga, with a sword and point upwards to the heavens, was an insult. Only because it leans more on the Greek mythology than American mythology, making people feel like Greek virtues are the only goldy way. A portrait of George Washington was drawn by an artist named William Bingham and his wife, where they were trying to capture the morals he stood for. Another source talking about the portrait, Gilbert Stewart states, "this painting was a gift to former British Prime Minister (...) a lasting peace between Britain and America." This painting was suppose to symbolize peace between the two countries for the world to see. In the image, Washington stands with a sword in his hand, a gold chair sitting behind him, books scattered all over a table and his welcoming hand held out in front of him. All these represent his values; sword symbolizing the military, books symbolizing his knowledge and education, and his out stretched hand symbolizing a warm welcome. In the same article, another source by Jill Lepore states that Washington was a boy who "he copied out a set of sixteenth–century Italian 'Rules of Civility'" (Lepore 8). He strived to become more educated boy so he could grow to be an intelligent man. By making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. George Washington Essay Washington, George (1732–99), commander in chief of the Continental army during the American Revolution, and later the first president of the United States. He symbolized qualities of discipline, aristocratic duty, military orthodoxy, and persistence in adversity that his contemporaries particularly valued as marks of mature political leadership. Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the eldest son of Augustine Washington, a Virginia planter, and Mary Ball Washington. Although Washington had little or no formal schooling, his early notebooks indicate that he read in geography, military history, agriculture, deportment, and composition and that he showed some aptitude in surveying and simple ... Washington resigned his commission in 1754, but in May 1755 he began service as a volunteer aide–de–camp to the British general Edward Braddock, who had been sent to Virginia with a force of British regulars. A few kilometers from Fort Duquesne, Braddock's men were ambushed by a band of French soldiers and Native Americans. Braddock was mortally wounded, and Washington, who behaved gallantly during the conflict, narrowly escaped death. In August 1755 he was appointed (with the rank of colonel) to command the Virginia regiment, charged with the defense of the long western frontier of the colony. War between France and Britain was officially declared in May 1756, and while the principal struggle moved to other areas, Washington succeeded in keeping the Virginia frontier relatively safe. The American Revolution After the death of his elder half brother Lawrence, Washington inherited the plantation known as Mount Vernon. A spectacular rise in the price of tobacco during the 1730s and '40s, combined with his marriage in 1759 to Martha Custis, a young widow with a large estate, made him one of the wealthiest men in Virginia. Elected to the House of Burgesses in 1758, he served conscientiously but without special distinction for 17 years. He also gained political and administrative experience as justice of the peace for Fairfax County. Like other Virginia planters, Washington became alarmed by the repressive measures of the British crown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. George Washington Political The year was 1796, and the newborn nation of America was rapidly changing and its citizens were quickly dividing. Britain had become a problem in the recent years due to the impressment of American soldiers, excessive amounts of imports destroying the economy, and American exports being heavily taxed and regulated (John Jay's Treaty, 1794–95, n.d.). Foreign affairs were not the only problem contributing to the pot of conflict that was boiling over. At home, the nation was becoming politically divided when two opposing political parties were formed despite the warnings of the now retiring George Washington. It was a time of uncertainty, yet a time of hope as well. Although there were foreign and domestic issues breaking out across America, the next presidential election was right around the corner, and hope of more stable foreign relations and a brighter future for America was on the line. George Washington saw "the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, certain regions of the United States, namely the South and New England, would be the voter blocs of this election. New England leaned largely in favor of John Adams and the Federalists, while the South tended to prefer Thomas Jefferson and the Democratic–Republicans. New England had an economy driven by manufacturing, wanted a large, central government, and supported the abolishment of slavery, so it was apparent that the New England states would be the primary source of voters for the Federalist candidate. The southern region of America, which included such states as Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia, would be the primary backers of Democratic–Republican candidate Thomas Jefferson. With an agricultural economy, desire and necessity to maintain slavery, and support for a small national government with power residing in the states, it was clear that Jefferson would be their ... As explained in the article, lessons in leadership from George Washington, by Major Graham H. Bernstein. Bernstein says, "integrity is more than personal honesty and morality. It is also necessary to developing trust between the leader and the followers." Through this point, Washington and his soldiers developed a friendship with each other. They either work together or end up nowhere. George Washington like an effective leader, communicated an inspiring vision to him and his followers and together they choose to live it. His followers believed in Washington and Washington believed in his followers. With hard work and devotion, Washington and his soldiers would win the war as a team. The article also explains Washington's tireless commitment to his troops; he did not leave his soldiers once during a conflict and he endured the same pain as his men did. Washington shows faithfulness to his soldiers and his nation. Washington knew his army was under trained and that they were going against the toughest militia there was at the time, but he still chooses to stick with his soldiers and not flee the scene. His forgoing observations point the picture of a leader who inspired the confidence of the people he led. Following his election as president in 1789, he worked to unify rival factions in the fledgling nation. He supported Alexander Hamilton's programs to satisfy all debts, federal and state, established a permanent seat of government, implemented an effective tax system, and created a national bank. In avoiding war with Great Britain, he guaranteed a decade of peace and profitable trade by securing the Jay Treaty in 1795, despite intense opposition from the Jeffersonians. He remained non–partisan, never joining the Federalist Party, although he largely supported its policies. Washington's Farewell Address was an influential primer on civic virtue, warning against partisanship, sectionalism, and involvement in foreign wars. He retired from the presidency in 1797, returning to his home and plantation at Mount Vernon. • 16. Characteristics Of George Washington George Washington, without a doubt can be considered the "indispensable man" because of his absolute force of character, his remarkable reputation, he never abused or wanted to glorify his power, and he voluntarily surrendered power when a job was done. Without him, this country would most definitely not be what it is today; he did have his flaws as well. For example, as a soldier he was said to sometimes act rashly and have poor judgement on the battle field, he was addicted to gambling, and visited quite a few brothels most frequently. People have said he was vain, pretentious, and hot tempered; sounds like a typical man but back to the topic. Even though he had his flaws, which who doesn't, he was extremely admired, respected, and revered by his peers and the public and was beyond trustworthy. President George Washington filled a need for someone that American's could trust. He took up the reigns against the war King George III, who at the time was loved by his people, turned on everyone and started a war. • 20. George Washington Neutrality George Washington George Washington is often noted for his accomplishments as both the first President of the United States and for his bravery during the French Revolution, but his seemingly unpopular actions displayed true integrity and will to do what is best for his country. He placed the well–being of the United States before his personal beliefs. Although opponents will often disagree, President Washington's decision to ratify Jay's Treaty in 1795 provided the United States with a necessary alliance that ultimately neutralized future relations with Great Britain and set the precedent for executive power. After signing the Treaty of Paris in 1783 that ended the Revolutionary War which granted the United States its independence from Britain, tension remained constant between the two nations. Prior to Jay's Treaty, Washington announced a Proclamation of Neutrality in 1793 that proclaimed the United States' bipartisanism in the war between France and Great Britain. He believed America was too young and unstable to risk a conflict with another country. In remaining neutral, Washington hoped to preserve crucial trade relations with both countries ("The Proclamation of Neutrality 1793"). During the French Revolution, the British were still allowed to export goods to be sold in the American markets, yet would not allow American ships to use British ports. Britain imposed tariffs and restrictions on American trade, leading to even more tension between the two nations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
