To develop an effective health education program it requires culturally enhanced programs that are
both responsive and relevant. Within my program I would reiterate the importance of self–

Over the past few decades Brazil has made major improvements to its healthcare system. Before
1988, half of Brazil's population did not have health care coverage (World Health Organization).
This changed when Brazil implemented Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde) which
provided universal free healthcare coverage for its citizens. Since its enactment, 75% of Brazil's
population now rely on Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) as their sole provider of health coverage,
making it the largest public health system in the world (World Health Organization). SUS receives
its funding primarily through federal and local taxation totaling $208 billion (Deliotte). However,
this large amount of spending is not reflected in the quality of healthcare provided to Brazilians.
Brazil has an estimated 2.5 hospital beds per 1,000 citizens and the beds are of bad quality and are
poorly distributed (Deliotte). Brazil's Federal Medical Council conducted a survey that showed 93%
of Brazilians considered the healthcare systems to be either 'very bad' or 'mediocre' (Deliotte). While
more Brazilians have access to healthcare than ever before, the quality of care does not meet the
requirements that would allow the system to be truly effective. Despite its operational healthcare
inefficiencies, Brazil's life expectancy has been rapidly increasing since SUS's implementation, as
shown in Figure 1.

Action 2: Publish articles in peer–reviewed journals, but also magazines, newspapers, and Websites,
highlighting the importance of health in education. The articles target their respective audiences in
order to garner the attention of educators, parents, and policy makers alike. Peer–reviewed journal
articles will substantiate claims that personal and public health promotes the educational goals
established by the school and federal mandate. Articles in magazines and newspapers target parents
and older students, demonstrating how they can take greater responsibility for their health by eating
right and exercising.
Action 3: Hold town meetings and public speaking events for community involvement, showing the
link between public health in general, and student performance in particular. If possible, hire high
profile or celebrity speakers to give talks that will attract students and parents.

Behavioral Health Education
The overall goal is to assess individual patients with hypertension, obesity, and diabetes type 2 and
develop a positive learning environment via behavioral health education courses. Courses discussing
diabetes management, nutritional and physical health, and heart health will result in a proactive
participation of patients to make positive lifestyle changes to the improve quality of life while
combating three chronic conditions.
Aim 1 is to determine if the utilization of weekly behavioral health education courses will reduce

The focus in the clinical practice would be to reduce health care disparities and address the barriers
that affect the individual's health care outcomes. The most important strategy to promote health
education is to be culturally sensitive, which includes as a clinician to have knowledge with social–
cultural, religious, healthcare issues, and remove barriers that impede the individual's heath care

To improve health education with language barriers effectively would be to use a medically trained

As the world is changing dramatically in terms of the technology that was available a couple of
decades ago, so are the health challenges and threats that we are facing. In the 1980s, the major
public health problems were related to the wide spread presence of infectious diseases. However, in
today 's world, the focus has shifted from infectious diseases to chronic diseases. As we dig deeper
into understanding the etiology of the chronic diseases, we notice that obesity has an association
with a lot of them.
To reverse this trend, the Healthy People 2020 has set "Increasing the Proportion of Adults at a
Healthy Weight" as one of its objectives. Some of the factors that are believed to effect obesity and
overweight are physical activity status and eating healthy. Here, we will be looking at two studies
that have tried to understand people 's beliefs and motivation to address this objective.
The first of the two studies was on the association of social support and Body Mass Index (BMI), on
African American women from rural Deep South, conducted by Johnson ER et al. The two
interventions that were looked up at in this study are healthy eating, and exercising. The second
study was about the perceived neighborhood attributes and BMI, among 12

For years as principal, he saw students fade in and out of school. Absences were often because of
illness.
This is a familiar scene in the northernmost part of Ghana, which according to the Ghana Poverty
Reduction Strategy II, suffers from extreme poverty. These northern regions have the highest levels
of malnutrition and stunting among children, the highest child morbidity and mortality rates, the
most recurrent cases of guinea worm and other water borne diseases, and not surprisingly, the
lowest school enrollment and completion rates especially among girls.
Healthier Children Stay in School
To respond to these needs, CRS began a School Health Education Program (SHEP) in partnership
with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ghana Education Service (GES). The program,
initially funded as part of a United States Agency for International Development Title II grant, is
designed to improve the health and nutritional status of preschool and primary school children in
northern Ghana. Providing these children with a safe, hygienic school environment and meeting
their basic health needs increases the likelihood that they will enroll in, attend and complete primary
school. This is a strategic priority of CRS' education work: improving access and equity for
vulnerable populations.

From the time I started middle school, I have had a health and wellness education class each year
throughout school. My first health class started in seventh grade and that is around the time I started
to learn about the importance of health and wellness. As a kid, my diet was not what I would
consider healthy. There were few fruits and vegetables outside of school lunches. I played three
sports all of my life so I was an active person getting the important benefits of exercise. However,
fast food was often a quick solution to eating after sport practice. Once I started to learn about
healthy options in health class I was able to make conscious decisions on eating healthy. Health and
physical education classes in high school started to explain why nutrition and exercise were
important. Furthermore, I attended a private school that offered religion classes and I attended
church weekly. Both of these influenced my spiritual wellness positively. After high school, I
decided I wanted to study kinesiology and health promotion in college to learn more.
After several years of learning about health and wellness in different aspects, I have come to believe
that health and wellness can identify who a person is and what they value in their lives. For
example, I exercise daily because it is one of the few beneficial practices that can improve nearly all
aspects of health without requiring additional costs. This led me toward a career path that will

management, health care professionals must take time to provide the adequate education to patients

1. Staff credentials
To ensure that all staff are properly qualified we will collect resumes, transcripts, and letters of
recommendation for each staff member once upon hire. This information will be compared to the
job description and the qualifications of other applicants.
2. Quality of educational or communication materials
Prior to the beginning of the program, materials for the health education classes and health
communication campaign will be reviewed by experts to assess accuracy, comprehension,
acceptability, appeal, targeting and persuasion. The scores from the expert review will be compared
to the standard of 80% and above once before implementing the program. Following expert review,
materials will be evaluated for a SMOG score which will be compared to a 6th grade reading level.
