Hellbenders Research Paper
Biologists, suited in wetsuits and snorkels, gently lift a large rock underwater before poking a dive light into the crevice. Two small eyes peek out at
them, a wide grin and a flattened wrinkled body floating and bobbing with the current. The Eastern Hellbender, ancient giant salamanders that have
roamed the Earth for millions of years, living dinosaurs that roam the bottom of non–polluted streams and shallow rivers preying on crawfish and
earthworms.
As water pollution increases and water quality declines so do the hellbender populations. The large amphibians breath entire through their skin, and like
any amphibian, can absorb nearly anything through it. Chemical runoff from pesticides and herbicides, and siltation from nearby ... Show more content

Captively reared hellbenders are returned to southeastern Ohio streams at around three years of age. Some of these hellbenders, as they wait for their
return to home, are cared for by high school seniors in the small animal care lab at Penta Career Center in Perrysburg, Ohio. The technical school, in
partnership with the Toledo Zoo, contains a small bio–secure room which contains around thirty forty gallon tanks, each containing anywhere from
three to seven hellbenders based on age and size. Maintained daily, excluding weekends, the amphibians are monitored closely by both students and
staff alike.
Through this work and learning about the conservation efforts behind these salamanders have I found my passion. By the end of the day, despite
being dripping with water, arms sore from transporting buckets of siphoned water to dispose of, I feel truly at home. So, and while it's still in
development, I have been developing a simple behavior experiment to determine how often younger hellbenders surface for air compared to their older
counterparts. I am to reveal and discuss my experiment outcomes with a group of biologists sometime in the spring of

Animal Shop Research Paper
Adopt don't Shop Each year, 3–4 million animals are euthanized in shelters. That means every 7 seconds an animal is euthanized (Paws). Most of
these animals are healthy, young, and adoptable. Each day 10,000 humans are born in the US, and 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. That
represents and human to 15 dogs and 45 cats. As long as that ratio exist, there will never be enough homes for all these animals. The sad reality for
the majority of the companion animals that end up in shelters is that the final act of kindness they will experience is a gentle hand ending their life.
The number of strays living in the US is 70 Million. The number of animals that die each year from cruelty, neglect, and exploitation, 30 Million. There
are 4,000–6,000 animal shelters in the US and the number of animals that enter those shelters each year is 6–8 Million (Oxford Pets). 5 in 10 dogs and
7 in 10 cats in shelters are euthanized simply because there is no one to adopt them. Some of the causes of pet population are puppy mills, and being a
responsible pet owner. In Puppy Mills dogs are often kept in cages with wire flooring that injures their paws and legs, and it is not unusual for cages to

Some people think that breeders should have to get a license for breeding. That a breeding license should cost a $1,000, and need to be renewed at
an annual rate. Anyone who does not have a license and is caught breeding will have to pay a fine up to $1,000 per litter. All animals would be
seized and sent to a temporary or permanent home and if the fine was not payed, it would be attached to the breeders property as a lien. Another
solution would be to limit the number, breeders are allowed to produce each year. Since litter size varies there would need to be flexibility, but the
breeder would have a limit. Any breeder who fell out of compliance would have his or her license revoked and all animals would be put in a shelter for
adoption.(Tails of the

The Aspc Preventing Animal Cruelty
The ASPCA:
Preventing Animal Cruelty One Animal at a Time
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, better known as the ASPCA is a nonprofit organization that focuses on preventing
animal cruelty. The mission of the ASPCA is "to provide effective means for theprevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States"
(ASPCA). Animal cruelty and neglect are tremendous problems in the United States, therefore, organizations such as the ASPCA are needed to start
the process of prevention. The ASPCA website is used to bring awareness to the issue of animal cruelty through actions such as: donations, volunteers,
advocacy centers, adoptions, and fundraisers. The ASPCA website is effective in bringing awareness and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The variety of animals helps to appeal to many different types of animal advocates. These are a few examples of how visuals are used as an effective
feature in representing the mission of the ASPCA.
The next piece of criteria that the ASPCA website uses is the text. Each significant piece of information on the homepage is in large, bolded letters.
This feature emphasizes the importance of the words. For example, the black text that reads "63 cents a day" is an important piece of information
regarding donations. The text is also black in color, but placed on a white background. This idea makes the message "pop" and grabs the viewer's
attention. Due to the placement of the text, it catches the viewer's attention and could drive them to consider donating just that small amount of money
to the ASPCA. This is a vital factor for this organization, since donations help drive the prevention of animal cruelty. Also, the idea of using only sixty
three cents to advertise donations helps to encourage people to take action seeing that it is such a modest amount. Another example is on the 'Take
Action' page, the key elements are in bold colors such as blue and green. The final piece of text that supports the mission of the organization is in the
menu bar. The orange text on the menu bar is eye–catching, which is essential considering the buttons lead to places where viewers can

Pet Adoption And Depression ( Cherney )
Pet Adoption and Depression
Approximately 20.9 million adults in the United States are currently coping with depression or a mood or anxiety disorder, and this number is
seemingly on the rise (Mental Disorders In America). It is becoming more and more likely for people in the United States to be diagnosed with
depression or anxiety. However, this number only accounts for the number of individuals who choose to seek professional help or medical treatment,
because many people are not even aware that they could be depressed. Most of the patients that are being treated are using a variety of different
techniques and medicines to enhance their mood. Some of the most popular antidepressant medications that doctors are currently prescribing are ...

Simply petting a dog can noticeably lower an individual's heart rate and blood pressure. Some studies even show that pet owners have slightly lower
cholesterol than their peers who do not live with pets (Benjamin). Dogs' positive influences on their owners' health goes even deeper yet. Even
though it seems absolutely irrational, there is evidence and studies that link dogs with detecting cancer. There are many reports of dog owners who
claimed that their canine friends continuously licked or sniffed moles and lumps on their bodies that were found to be cancerous. As impossible as it
seems, there is actual scientific evidence that states some dogs can smell cancer in the human body (Benjamin). While cancer is definitely terrible to
find, early detection can make all the difference, and having a dog can be that difference. Not only can dogs cause their owners to be more active, but
they can also save their lives.
It is no secret that dogs long ago earned their label as "man's best friend". It only makes sense, considering that dogs have been owned by humans
since ancient times. Pets are obviously great companions for just about anyone. However, for someone suffering from depression, anxiety, or another
mood disorder, the companionship of a pet can be the only thing giving them happiness. Dogs are perfect for shy people who still seek

Persuasive Essay On Pet Adoption
For centuries, humankind has enjoyed the unconditional love and companionship of pets. Inclusively, dogs have been stated as "man's best friends."
By far, pets have become a bigger role in people's lives. Consequently, pet ownership has turned out to be more popular through the years. Owning a
pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but there is a fact that many individuals may not know. From what kind of places are people
obtaining their pets? The two most presumed options are narrowed down to either buying at a pet store or adopting from a shelter. Even though people
can get a pet from either option, there are many reasons why adopting is undoubtedly a smarter choice. Animal shelters serve for a bigger purpose, and
that is to help the community and its animals. Prospective pet owners should choose pet adoption because of its health, economic, and life benefits. Pet
adoption brings myriad health benefits. One of these benefits is the loyal companionship of shelter animals. GAWS shelter's acting chief executive,
Mia Shaw states, "There are big positives for a person's mental and physical wellbeing in adopting a pet – there are so many benefits to adopting a dog
or cat, including companionship and friendship" (qtd. in Sum 19). These animals help human beings physically and mentally by providing another
incentive to exercise, and by providing a steady companionship. These benefits could potentially save the lives of depressed people and improve the
lives of incapacitated people. Inclusively, shelter animals reduce stress and other health–related issues. Rescue cat owner, Lisa Barley notes, "Not only
will you benefit from the joys of a furry friend's unconditional love, but a pet can have a positive impact on your health, from helping you stay
physically active to reducing stress and lowering blood pressure" (48). Adopting a pet is much like obtaining a best friend, who will provide
unconditional love and support when the person needs it the most. Furthermore, most of the shelter animals are caged for days or even months,
resulting in being restricted from social environments. Consequently, these animals end up being friendlier when they are adopted and placed in a
steady home, unlike the ones obtained

Yet intervention is often reserved for those who have the will to step up when others don't feel empowered to do so. We serve our community by taking
action in instances of animal cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We have rescued and rehabilitated animals who have been starved to emaciation,
beaten, confined in their own waste, shot, and struck by cars. Reducing the incidence of cruelty and healing the wounds of cruelty is our primary
concern.
Our Safe Zone program wants community members, kids, and families to respond to our outreach and concern with animal brutality by joining us in

Persuasive Essay On Euthanasia
In today's world, almost everybody has a pet, we depend on them to give us comfort, love and care, vice versa but while we show our utmost
affection to our pets, there are other pets in this world that get neglected and treated bad. About 3 million pets get euthanized each year because no one
is able to adopt them. According to an article written on dallas news by Sarah Mervosh, she states "DAS (Dallas Animal Shelter) has successfully
reduced euthanasia, despite being underfunded compared with other cities. About 60 percent of dogs get out of the shelter alive today –– up from 30
percent five years ago. Still, nearly 70 percent of the 8,500 or so dogs euthanized in Dallas last year were assessed as "treatable," meaning they
were more adoptable than dogs with major health problems." The number of euthanasia has gone down but our goal is to completely get rid of the
concept of euthanizing pets since we believe that euthanization is a cruel thing to do and pets who are innocent and do not deserve this shouldn't be
going through all of this that is why we at petco are taking matters into our own hands. Our initiative is to help underfunded animal shelters in the
DFW metroPlex have better resources so that they can provide good care to pets that enter animal shelters each year. We are targeting four animal
shelters that need our attention. Our goal is to bring in funds and other resources to animal shelters in need of support. To fulfill our dream of getting

Adoption Debate
When we speak about adoptions, we commonly think about a couple going into a legal contract to care for a child that they themselves did not
bear or we may think about a pet. With both of these cases there are careful considerations that we need to take into account. For a child the parents
to be may be thinking about if they want a boy or a girl, what kind of diapers and formula to purchase, and how to furnish the room, just to mention
a few things. For a pet we will take into consideration the species and the breed. Do we want a dog, cat, fish, snake, and what are the implications of
having that pet. What is the best type of nourishment, shelter, and care is widely researched. If we spend so much time researching all of these things
for children and pets; why are we not spending the time that we need in researching our plants? After all, without the proper shelter, nutrition and care
plants will not be able to flourish.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This raises the question: How is this possible? In order to understand the validity of the statement we must first understand our past. If anyone were to
state that there is an African influence in Egyptian history most of us would not think to challenge this statement due to the close proximity of Egypt and
Africa. When you take that into account, it would be hard to grasp the concept that there would be an African influence in America before Columbus
due to the distance in between Africa and America. It is interesting to know that "the negroid element is well proven by the large Olmec stone
mountains "(Sertima, 1976 p. 21), therefore we must take into account that there was an African influence in America before Columbus had arrived.
For many of us this is a hard concept to grasp, after all it does go against everything we were taught in history class as a

How Strict Animal Shelter Policies Can Cause Pets
I Was Stressed so I Ate a Wall, Pooped White for a Week, Then Was Returned to the Animal Shelter
Allison Gray in her article "How Strict Animal Shelter Policies Can Cause Pets to Suffer," offers a harsh critique that animal shelters hold a very strict
adoption process by not allowing unqualified pet owners to adopt. She argues that adoption shelters want to find the perfect owner, but the perfect
owner does not exist by her claims. Therefore, pets are not adopted out and are left to suffer in animal shelters. With the guidelines forpet adoption
already in place she states that most pets were not adopted out because prospecting owners had an intact pet at home, their current pet was overdue for
vaccines and they wanted an outdoor cat. She exudes that it is the shelters harsh policies that are keeping pets from being adopted out and finding their
forever home.
In my view, however, it is the owners, and not the shelters fault that unwanted pets swarm animal shelters. While it is true that some shelters can be
over zealous with adoption rules, it is still the owners fault that these animals ended up in animal control in the first place. According to the American
Humane Society over 29% of pets are returned to animal shelters simply because a person's place of residence does not allow pets (2). This means
that the prospecting owner lied on the application to adopt. Steve Bruno in his article "Rescue Me" informs that "Rescue dogs suffer from

Shelter dogs need your help. If you're a person wanting to adopt a dog, do so from a shelter. Shelter dogs will never stop needing homes. Almost
any kind of dogs can be found at a shelter. I think people should always adopt from the shelter because, they have the potential to be great dogs, and
all they need is some extra love. Animal shelters desperately need more people to come to them for dog adoptions. People adopt from breeders and
stores without realizing that shelters are overcrowded. When a shelter runs out of rooms for the dogs, they get euthanized. Shelter dogs just need
people who care to give them a home.
Each year 670,000 dogs are euthanized in shelters. If a dog is sick most of the time the shelter cannot afford vet fees, or

"It's that sad animal shelter commercial again, change the channel!"
How many of you have said this before? I have. This used to be my initial reaction almost every time ads of animal adoption agencies came on TV.
This is also probably the general reaction of most viewers when presented with such sad images. We all prefer to watch those funny videos of dogs
standing on two legs or cats wearing silly outfits. And of course that's fine; we all need a little entertainment from time to time. But knowing where
these great companions of humans come from or where they may ultimately end up could surprise you.

You also get literature on caring for your new pet, plus support and guidance from shelter staff if you have questions. Shelter pets make wonderful
companions. Some have never had a home, others were abandoned or surrendered by their previous owners. Some are the victims of divorce, illness,
allergies, a new baby, inexperienced owners, a move that didn't include them, and many other reasons. But most shelter pets are loving animals who
are grateful to have a second chance at a happy life. They can and do bond with their new owners, and become the most devoted and loving of family
pets. You save a life, and do your part in combatting pet overpopulation.
A sad fact of life is that there are far too many homeless pets than there are loving homes to care for them. When you adopt from a shelter, you save a
life and free up a cage for another needy animal waiting to be adopted. Your money goes towards running the shelter, pet education, and spay/neuter
surgery. All of this, and you gain a loving companion too!

Personal Narrative: My Dream Shelters Program
My dream outreach program would be to help promote the adoption of adult dogs in shelters everywhere. So many dogs across the US are left in
shelters afraid, alone and lots of them don't survive. The statistics of adult dogs being adopted vs. a puppy are low, puppies always go faster in a
shelter. Many of these adult dogs in shelters were once someone's loving pet. With shelters being over populated many of these dogs are never
adopted and euthanized. Love without a Paws program will help adult dogs 1 year of age and more to be adopted. The program will be managed by
myself with local volunteers who will promote the program with advertisement also partnered with sponsors who will provide the services. Love
without a Paws will team up with sponsors like Petsmart to offer free training classes and education about adult dogs and, local shelters will offer
affordable vet visits for adopting an adult dog from their shelter. Secondly adopting an adult dog will be less work than adopting a puppy.... Show more

Puppies require an abundance of training time, exercise, and socialization with other animals and people. Those things are essential for them to be
comfortable in the world and become wonderful dogs. Puppies will have accidents in the house, chew, get into things and make messes. For these
reasons they require a lot of your time, so they know what you want and don't want them to do. It's recommended for first–time dog owners to start
with an adult dog if you cannot devote the time necessary to socialize, train and exercise a puppy properly. With an adult dog you know what you're

Descriptive Essay On Animal Abuse
An Animal Extravaganza's Galore
Animals are the beginning of the best nerve wrecking filled love you could ever dream of for your entire existence. Ever since I was a young child,
I've always resonated with the everlasting idea of helping animals more so than anyone and anything else in this world. My love for animals had
begun when I was a mere two years old. I've always had pets: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. I remember the joy I'd felt when my
parents brought my dogs and I to the park. To find out more information about how to help adoptable animals in shelters, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a
community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside Waifs isno–kill shelter located in Kansas City, Missouri which has adoptable dogs and
cats, ready and willing to go to safe, loving homes.
When I first emailed Smasal asking if she would participate in the interview, I felt overwhelming fear and began to panic about the whole
encounter. The fear of having to ask someone I had never met to talk with me is something that scares me. Nonetheless, I sent the email asking
politely yet efficiently to see if she would give me a few of her precious minutes to answer questions about a cause worth fighting for: animal rescue
hospitals. She quickly responded to my quaint email approximately a day later stating she would happily answer any and all questions I have,
significant or insignificant. The questions took a couple days to figure out. The few days I had to create

The prefix "hypo" means "less than" and thus the word hypoallergenic tells the kitten/cat buyer that the breeder believes the cat to to produce fewer

nor are there any guidelines. So the world "hypoallergenic" has very little meaning.
Around 2–15% of the worlds population is allergic to cats and 1/3 of these have a cat in their home.

Persuasive Essay : The Euthanasia Of Animals
The euthanasia of animals is a very problematic social issue in the world today. Approximately there are about 7.6 million companion animals that enter
animal shelters each year. Of those, about 2.7 animals are euthanized, and cats have the highest rate, according to "The American Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals" (2017). When you hear the term euthanasia in reference to animals, you think of a painless process that ends the
countless suffering your pet had to endure over the span of their lives. There are many reasons for which these animals are "put to sleep." When most
pet owners put their pets to sleep it is because their pets have incurable disease, painful illness, behavioral problems and are of old age. When an
animal is suffering and is no longer able to recover, this process may be the most humane thing to do. However, euthanasia turns into murder when
perfectly healthy animals are killed. Since there is an overpopulation of animals there are many animals left on the street wandering alone. When
there isn't any room for all these new animals being brought in from off the streets, shelters have no other option, but to euthanize. Each year more
and more dogs and cats are born and sent into shelters, but for every animal being born another one has to leave and once the animal leave they are
most likely going to be euthanized. No matter the situation animals are losing their lives for no clear reason.
Nowadays, shelters don't have enough funds to save a

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Shelter
Many animals are sitting in a shelter of some sort this very second and we take our pets for granted ignoring those pets who are less fortunate.
Animals should be adopted from shelters to help save their lives and make their lives also better in a number of ways. Many of the animals in shelters
get put down or don't have the funding to care for the animals in the shelters and have to then do anything in their power to get rid of the animal to
prevent the idea of killing the animal. Animals don't get the choice to be in a shelter or not, but I personally see it as in my situation of being in a
treatment center for no reason but for a new placement. Animals deserve a second chance to be free again before being killed in a shelter. My first
source is Animal Law What YouNeed to Know When Adopting a Pet, is that you may get rejected for an animal adoption, but that is no reason to

Why Animal Shelters Need To Do Home Checks
When adopting a dog, most people worry about which type of animal they want and the price they are willing to pay. Adopting at shelters is easier
because of the opportunity of hearing their story and falling in love with the animal. After finding the right soulmate, there is a process that
everyone must go through. First, there is a test to make sure the animal loves its soon to be owner. Then, there is paperwork, and finally there is a
home check to make sure the animal will be safe. Sadly, many shelters around the world are too lazy for a thirty minute home check, making some
animal's lives endangered. I believe all shelters need to do home checks because they will provide the reassurance that the animal will be free of abuse
and will be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doing a home check while having the animal up for adoption there would provide the reassurance that the animal is comfortable in their new forever
home. It would make sure they do not get scared of objects or people in the environment. This would help lower the euthanasia percent for animals as
well. In the article, "Animal Shelter Euthanasia" by the website AnimalHumane, sixty–four percent of animals attack because of aggression,
overcrowding, or objects that they are scared of. Studies from "When Dogs Attack" by the website CesarsWay, says that many animals attack due to
loud noises or large objects in the home. Some animals get so scared they could bite someone's fingers off! They are frightened and use attacking as a
self–defense method. Then, innocent animals are euthanised because of those attacks. It is dreadful to hear about animals who attacked because they
felt scared, or were because they were in an unsafe environment. Home checks could prevent animals' likeliness to attack because it would be
obvious if the animal was comfortable in the environment. This would lower the euthanasia rate and save animal's precious lives. Invading privacy
Many people would think a shelter would be invading their home when doing a home check, and would rather go to a shelter where one doesn't have
to go through all the paperwork and wait for a home check. This process could take weeks depending on the adoption. TheShelterProject, a website,
states in their article, "Pet Adoption" that owners have the right to privacy in their home or environment. Plus, shelters with home checks could take
days to weeks whereas shelters without them could take minutes to an hour. It is an easier way, but not the safer

Colorado Springs Adoption Case Study
The general goal of the Humane Society Colorado Springs, is to eliminate the cruelty and suffering of animals. In a quest to keep animals safe and in
places where they are treated with love and care, they possess a rescue and adoption program. It is a big and important decision to make the decision
about bringing an adopted pet into your home. Not everyone can realistically adopt a pet and they can donate in other ways. If you have truly
evaluated your time, money and housing restrictions and still feel it is the right choice for you, then it is time for you to understand the adoption process
and how it works.
There is an on–line site where you can go and take a look at what animals are currently up for adoption. The staff does their best to keep this
information up to date. Adoption is based on a first come, first serve basis. You may arrived at the theHumane Society and find that the pet you were

When you find a pet that you are interested in meeting and getting acquainted with, you get the id number and take it to a staff member. You will then
be allowed to spend some time with the pet in a safe environment with staff there to help answer your questions. It is the job of the staff member to
talk to you frankly about the cares and needs of the animals and see if this situation is truly a "match".
At the Colorado Springs Humane Society, they don't have an adoption application. They have an adoption survey that helps to make sure owners and
pets will be an appropriate match. When the survey is completed and approved the adoption proceeds. Depending on the adopted pet there may be
medical costs before the pet can be adopted.

Animal Cruelty And The Prevention Of Cruelty
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, better known as the ASPCA is a non profit organization that focuses on preventing
animal cruelty. The mission of the ASPCA is "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States"
(ASPCA). Animal cruelty and neglect are huge problems in the United States, therefore organizations such as the ASPCA are needed to start the
process of prevention. The ASPCA website is used to to bring awareness to the issue of animal cruelty through actions such as: donations, volunteers,
advocacy centers, adoptions, and fundraisers. The ASPCA website is effective in bringing awareness and preventing animal cruelty through factors
including visuals,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next piece of criteria that the ASPCA website uses is the text. Each important piece of information on the homepage are in large, bolded letters.
This feature emphasizes the importance of the words. For example, the black text that reads "63 cents a day" is an important piece of information
regarding donations. The text is also black in color, but placed on a white background. This idea makes the message "pop" and grabs the viewer's
attention. Due to the placement of the text, it catches the viewer's attention and could drive them to consider donating just that small amount of
money to the ASPCA. This is a vital factor for this organization because donations help drive the prevention of animal cruelty. Also, the idea of using
only sixty three cents to advertise donations helps to encourage people to take action because it is such a small amount. Another example is on the
'Take Action' page, the key elements are in bold colors such as blue and green. The final piece of text that supports the mission of the organization is in
the menu bar. The orange text on the menu bar is eye–catching, which is important because the buttons lead to places where viewers can adopt pets,
volunteer, and donate; these are all great opportunities to effectively bring awareness to preventing animal cruelty. Specific colors, when used
strategically can benefit a

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Adoption
The social issue I have chosen is pet adoption and why people should choose this way of finding an animal companion, as opposed to buying one.
This is an issue because across the United States, there is an overpopulation or mistreatment of dogs and cats every day. Animal shelters take in these
animals and care for them as much as they can. Animal shelter intakes are anything from those picked up by an animal control, surrendered by owners,
or rescued from reports of animal cruelty. In the United States, approximately 5–12 million companion animals enter animal shelters annually and
approximately 1–4 million of these are euthanized. The Wood County Humane Society, located in Bowling Green, OH, is one of the several shelters
that care for animals in need of help.
There are many reasons why so many animals are in need of adoption, the main concerns being: breeding facilities, puppy mills, and strays. The
breeders' profit at an animal's expense because for every animal bred, an animal in a shelter loses its chance of finding a home. Inbreeding can also
cause painful and even life–threatening health effects to the animals and while some breeders sell healthy, well–treated animals, other breeders may be
abusive. Another reason is puppy mills, or commercial dog breeding facilities, in which the health and welfare of the animals are not the main priority.
There are an estimated 10,000 mills in the US, producing about 2 million puppies each year. The last main reason is the

Disadvantages Of Child Adoption
Following your choice of which type of adoption to go with, you will need to decide on how many children you will adopt. Countless people
choose to adopt, regardless, if you are deciding to adopt 1 child or 10 children you have made an enormous decision. Offering a family to a child that
feels like he/she belong nowhere is life altering. As seen with Staci and Eric Dennis of Virginia who decided they would try to ensure that at least one
person did not go through life without a family. After going to classes, then getting certified they adopted Kylie, according to Staci, the changes in
Kylie after the adoption was like watching a butterfly come out of the cocoon in fast motion (Dennis). According to the Adoption and Foster Care
Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) as of September 30, 2015 there were 427,910 children in the foster care system just in the United States.
While 243,060 left the system in 2015, another 269,509 entered the system during the same year. Although, these numbers change daily, there is no
shortage of children waiting for a family; as of September 30, 2015, there were 111,820 children waiting to be adopted in the US. Some of these
children have been separated from their parents, but are still with their siblings. If you have the option combined with the means to adopt siblings it can
help your children's adjustment to their new home. Siblings often have strong connections, even those that are not close in age. According to Lynne
and Santiago Class who

Persuasive Essay On Animal Adoption
Adopt or Buy? Many people buy the pets they want, but there are rarely any human beings that actually adopt. Let me ask you a simple question.
Do you usually buy your pets from a breeder, or do you actually go out and search for the one to adopt? Many of you will say buy from a breeder,
but that's okay. Let me just list my facts and you think them over. Maybe I can get your opinion to change. Logos. Facts. Adopting. It means saving
one of the more than six million cats, dogs, or countless other animals who enter U.S. animal shelters EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Adopting is never
buying any type of animal. What's the difference between a pet store and an animal shelter? This is one of the most asked questions over this topic.
And the answer? Profit. Pet stores. Pet stores sell animals only for the money or profit they can get off that animal. Animal shelters are there to save
lives. Get an animal off the street. Animal shelters take unwanted, stray, or abandoned animals. Now you may be thinking about anadoption fee.
Wouldn't that basically count as buying? Absolutely not. Shelters use the adoption fee so they can get more positive things for the animals. Food,
medicine, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and other important things for your new companion needs. In other words, your money is
going to help animals. Still not convinced adopting is better? Let's take a look at some examples.
To convince an audience of the author's credibility or character. Ethical appeal; Ethos. "Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are
euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a new pet.
The number of euthanized animals could be changed dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them." The Humane Society of the
United States. Every time you adopt a pet you're saving it's life. Now i'm not a very good example as I just bought a dog from a breeder a week ago, but
my family has adopted. We had heard of this pitbull mix that was at the Sulphur Springs Animal Shelter. He had only a couple of days left before he
was going to be euthanized. My sister, Jamie, is very in love with pitbulls so we went to go check him

The Importance Of Volunteering At The Bakersfield Spca
I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Bakersfield SPCA. Volunteering here was very rewarding as I was able to provide care for cats and dogs
who may never get adopted. My responsibilities consisted of cleaning the cats' kennels and making them presentable to any potential adopters. This
consisted of wiping the outside of the kennels and replacing the cat litter boxes so the cats would have a clean place to use. I also cleaned the inside
of the kennels and provided them with water and food. Through this process I began meeting the cats as they would approach me to see what was
going on. I realized that most of the cats were either grey with black markings or entirely black which meant that they had a less of a chance of getting

Such as climbing structures, scratching post or a place to run (2/26/17). In an attempt to meet the cat's telos I got to spend time grooming and
socializing the animals in an effort to make them more sociable which would make them more adoptable.
I also provided the dogs with the opportunity to get out of their small enclosure and to feel the grass underneath their paws. While speaking to one of
the workers I was told that the animals do not get to come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they depend a lot
on the donations from the public. Which means that they can only hire the exact amount of people that will help perform the necessary duties but they
lack the extra help that can help with taking the dogs out or grooming the cats. For this reason, they depend greatly on the community to go in and
volunteer.
"Animal shelters and the community" The Bakersfield SPCA is one of the smallest shelters within Bakersfield. They depend greatly on the
community to help sponsor animals. This means that the community members, depending on the type of animal, will provide a starting kit which
include food, bedding, and a scratching post to the adopters. The animals who were sponsor by the community are cats that are older or have been at
the shelter longer than the rest. This is a form of trying to save as many animals as possible by defining the animal as a shelter "mascot" (3/28/2017).
Which will give those animals

Why Adopt Shelter Dogs
Why should you adopt a shelter dog? Every year 3.9 million dogs nationwide are brought into shelters. Of those 3.9 million 31% are euthanized. I
think that you should adopt shelter dogs because lots of them die and you could save them, they are affordable, and they are good for your health.
One reason is that many dogs die everyday in shelters. 3.9 million dogs nationwide are brought into shelters, of those 3.9 million 31% are
euthanized. If dogs have been in the shelters for awhile and people aren't adopting them they will eventually be killed so new dogs can be brought in.
If more people adopt shelter dogs then less dogs will die. Another reason is that they are more affordable than the average dog. Dogs at a shelter called

Persuasive Essay On Save Animals
Animals are the beginning to the best nerve wrecking filled love you could ever dream of for your life. Ever since I was a young child, I've always
resonated with the idea of helping animals more so than anyone and anything else in this world. My love for animals had begun when I was a mere
four years old. I've always had pets: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. To find out more about how to help adoptable animals in
shelters, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside Waifs isno–kill shelter located in Kansas City,
Missouri which has adoptable dogs and cats, ready and willing to go to safe, loving homes. When I first emailed Smasal asking if she would
participate in the interview, I felt overwhelming fear and began to panic about the whole encounter. The fear of having to ask someone I had never
met to talk with me is something that scares me. Nonetheless, I sent the email asking politely yet efficiently to see if she would give me a few of
her precious minutes to answer questions about a cause worth fighting for: animal rescue hospitals. She quickly responded to my quaint email
approximately a day later stating she would happily answer any and all questions I have, significant or insignificant. The questions took a couple days
to figure out. The few days I had to create the questions were filled with creativity and a tad bit of questionable ideas. The questions I asked her were
the things I would want to

Persuasive Essay On Animal Shelters
Most pet stores offer a limited number of animals only such as dogs, cats, turtles, and fishes, among the common ones. On the other hand, animal
shelters can offer different kinds of animals aside from dogs and cats, such as birds and even horses.
Unlike pet stores which are usually privately–owned, some shelters are managed by the local government and are even funded by the taxes we pay.
Some shelters, on the other hand, are managed by non–government organizations and are funded by donations and charitable contributions. Some of
these shelters may even be associated with animal welfare organizations which provide guidelines on operating the shelter as well as educating the staff,
pet owners, and the community.
Debunking the myths about shelter animals
There are some myths regarding adopting an animal in a shelter that should be debunked. Among these are the following:
* Animals in shelters are usually bad–tempered and cannot make good pets. The truth is, there are several reasons why animals end up in shelters. For
one, their owners cannot take care of their pets anymore due to health issues, death, or relocation to another place where pets are not allowed.
Another reason may be due to an addition of a new family member, such as a baby, by which the family does not have enough time to take care of
their pets anymore. Some owners put their pets in shelters because they realized they should not have gotten a pet in the first place, perhaps due to

Persuasive Essay On Adoption Shelter
When you're ready to add another pet to the family, what is your first question? The first thing you should think about is whether you should adopt
a pet from a shelter or whether you should buy one from a breeder. There are pros and cons for each one, but you really need to consider both
thoughts. I'm sure you are worried about adopting from a shelter, because you don't know where they came from, how they were treated, or how
mean they are but little do you know, there are also cons with buying from a breeder. They could be bred wrong, they could be abused, or they could
also be mean. Not all breeders know what they are doing and there's always a chance of getting a pet you don't want, but you need to pay attention to
all the abused animals in the shelters to help them out, rather than helping out the breeders just so they can "raise money". It's not just the right thing
to do, it is a reward. Adopting a pet from a shelter can be difficult at times and you never know what the animal had been through before they are put
in the shelter. Are they potty trained? Were they abused? The process to adopting a pet from a shelter is much more difficult than just buying one from
a breeder. "You have to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Many people have different thoughts on adoption. Such as why adoption is a good thing not only for the animal but also the owner, if each dog
deserves a second chance, and if there should be kill shelters.
Adoption is good for both the animal and the owner, by adopting an animal is gives them a new home that they deserve. Adoption gives the owner a
sense of what the animal has gone through, which sometimes helps understand the way the animal may act and can help find ways to train them.
Adoption gives the animal a new start and a family that will love them no matter what. It can also help a family come together in hard times and help
each other get through it.

Persuasive Essay On Animals
If you aren't concerned with innocent animals being euthanized because they aren't getting adopted then stop reading here. Every year thousands of
sheltered and animals are being euthanized due to the fact that people don't want to adopt them. By finding bright spots in shelters such as similarities
between animals that are adopted, and then find out how to spread those characteristics to other animals in the shelter. I'll be researching potential ways
to increase the animals' happiness and then hopefully their personalities will change as well.
Every year there are thousands of animals abused, neglected, or left for dead. The purpose of Humane Societies and Shelters are to give a temporary
home to animals in need, as well as feed them. Being treated badly affects these animal's personalities in various negative ways. Some become very shy
and skittish, while others become hostile and mean. Shelters put their found animals up for adoption after giving them all their required shots, and a
large portion get adopted by a loving family. What happens to the remaining that do not get adopted? They are euthanized because people simply
do not want them. To euthanize an animal is to "put it down" because it either puts people and animals' lives in danger, or shelters simply don't
have the room or resources to care for them during their later years. Last year, across the US, about 1.5 animals are euthanized in order to make
room in shelters. This may seem like a lot, but this is actually a decrease since 2011, where that number was up to 2.6 million. This is almost half of
all rescued animals, because about 3.2 were adopted last year. My plan is to visit our local shelter, and observe the differences between animals that
are going to be adopted and animals that may be euthanized. Finding what makes certain animals more appealing than others is very important, so I
can help other animals share those traits, and appeal to the public more. My long–term goal is to change the behavior of the person, not the animal,
because what's wrong with the animal may not be its struggle, but rather what it doesn't have that people look for. For example, if we find that dogs
with bright colored blankets and a stuffed bear inside their

Pet Adoption AD's
There are numerous reasons why one should make wise decision before adopting a dog. The first you get to save a life by choosing to adopt. In the
United Sates, more than two million dogs are available to be adopted every year. One of the reason there are so many dogs up for adoption is a lot of
owners surrender their pets to the animal shelter. There are also benefits to adopting a dog from a shelter, it helps pay for the shelter to save more
dogs and to find homes for other dogs. There is also a misconception that's animals in the shelter have something wrong with them. There is numerous
reason as to why someone would surrender a dog to the shelter, other than health problems. They also make sure the dogs are healthy before they leave
the shelter. Also, it is usually cheaper to purchase a dog from an animal rescue center than apet store.
Another reason people adopt dogs for a pet is that he can help improve the mood of their owners. By adopting a dog, you can help improve yours
and the dog's life. But you also must be careful about where you look for a dog. You can look in the paper about adoption places. But the main
way people will look for pet adoptions is online. There are over thousands of places to adopt a pet from. You want to make sure that the place you
adopt from has references from previous adopters. Most places will have an individual picture for each dog with a description below the imagine, with

Hellbenders Research Paper

  • 1. Hellbenders Research Paper Biologists, suited in wetsuits and snorkels, gently lift a large rock underwater before poking a dive light into the crevice. Two small eyes peek out at them, a wide grin and a flattened wrinkled body floating and bobbing with the current. The Eastern Hellbender, ancient giant salamanders that have roamed the Earth for millions of years, living dinosaurs that roam the bottom of non–polluted streams and shallow rivers preying on crawfish and earthworms. As water pollution increases and water quality declines so do the hellbender populations. The large amphibians breath entire through their skin, and like any amphibian, can absorb nearly anything through it. Chemical runoff from pesticides and herbicides, and siltation from nearby ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Captively reared hellbenders are returned to southeastern Ohio streams at around three years of age. Some of these hellbenders, as they wait for their return to home, are cared for by high school seniors in the small animal care lab at Penta Career Center in Perrysburg, Ohio. The technical school, in partnership with the Toledo Zoo, contains a small bio–secure room which contains around thirty forty gallon tanks, each containing anywhere from three to seven hellbenders based on age and size. Maintained daily, excluding weekends, the amphibians are monitored closely by both students and staff alike. Through this work and learning about the conservation efforts behind these salamanders have I found my passion. By the end of the day, despite being dripping with water, arms sore from transporting buckets of siphoned water to dispose of, I feel truly at home. So, and while it's still in development, I have been developing a simple behavior experiment to determine how often younger hellbenders surface for air compared to their older counterparts. I am to reveal and discuss my experiment outcomes with a group of biologists sometime in the spring of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Animal Shop Research Paper Adopt don't Shop Each year, 3–4 million animals are euthanized in shelters. That means every 7 seconds an animal is euthanized (Paws). Most of these animals are healthy, young, and adoptable. Each day 10,000 humans are born in the US, and 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. That represents and human to 15 dogs and 45 cats. As long as that ratio exist, there will never be enough homes for all these animals. The sad reality for the majority of the companion animals that end up in shelters is that the final act of kindness they will experience is a gentle hand ending their life. The number of strays living in the US is 70 Million. The number of animals that die each year from cruelty, neglect, and exploitation, 30 Million. There are 4,000–6,000 animal shelters in the US and the number of animals that enter those shelters each year is 6–8 Million (Oxford Pets). 5 in 10 dogs and 7 in 10 cats in shelters are euthanized simply because there is no one to adopt them. Some of the causes of pet population are puppy mills, and being a responsible pet owner. In Puppy Mills dogs are often kept in cages with wire flooring that injures their paws and legs, and it is not unusual for cages to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people think that breeders should have to get a license for breeding. That a breeding license should cost a $1,000, and need to be renewed at an annual rate. Anyone who does not have a license and is caught breeding will have to pay a fine up to $1,000 per litter. All animals would be seized and sent to a temporary or permanent home and if the fine was not payed, it would be attached to the breeders property as a lien. Another solution would be to limit the number, breeders are allowed to produce each year. Since litter size varies there would need to be flexibility, but the breeder would have a limit. Any breeder who fell out of compliance would have his or her license revoked and all animals would be put in a shelter for adoption.(Tails of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Aspc Preventing Animal Cruelty The ASPCA: Preventing Animal Cruelty One Animal at a Time The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, better known as the ASPCA is a nonprofit organization that focuses on preventing animal cruelty. The mission of the ASPCA is "to provide effective means for theprevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States" (ASPCA). Animal cruelty and neglect are tremendous problems in the United States, therefore, organizations such as the ASPCA are needed to start the process of prevention. The ASPCA website is used to bring awareness to the issue of animal cruelty through actions such as: donations, volunteers, advocacy centers, adoptions, and fundraisers. These are a few examples of how visuals are used as an effective feature in representing the mission of the ASPCA. The next piece of criteria that the ASPCA website uses is the text. Each significant piece of information on the homepage is in large, bolded letters. This feature emphasizes the importance of the words. For example, the black text that reads "63 cents a day" is an important piece of information regarding donations. The text is also black in color, but placed on a white background. This idea makes the message "pop" and grabs the viewer's attention. Due to the placement of the text, it catches the viewer's attention and could drive them to consider donating just that small amount of money to the ASPCA. This is a vital factor for this organization, since donations help drive the prevention of animal cruelty. Also, the idea of using only sixty three cents to advertise donations helps to encourage people to take action seeing that it is such a modest amount. Another example is on the 'Take Action' page, the key elements are in bold colors such as blue and green. The final piece of text that supports the mission of the organization is in the menu bar. The orange text on the menu bar is eye–catching, which is essential considering the buttons lead to places where viewers can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pet Adoption And Depression ( Cherney ) Pet Adoption and Depression Approximately 20.9 million adults in the United States are currently coping with depression or a mood or anxiety disorder, and this number is seemingly on the rise (Mental Disorders In America). It is becoming more and more likely for people in the United States to be diagnosed with depression or anxiety. However, this number only accounts for the number of individuals who choose to seek professional help or medical treatment, because many people are not even aware that they could be depressed. Most of the patients that are being treated are using a variety of different techniques and medicines to enhance their mood. Some of the most popular antidepressant medications that doctors are currently prescribing are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simply petting a dog can noticeably lower an individual's heart rate and blood pressure. Some studies even show that pet owners have slightly lower cholesterol than their peers who do not live with pets (Benjamin). Dogs' positive influences on their owners' health goes even deeper yet. Even though it seems absolutely irrational, there is evidence and studies that link dogs with detecting cancer. There are many reports of dog owners who claimed that their canine friends continuously licked or sniffed moles and lumps on their bodies that were found to be cancerous. As impossible as it seems, there is actual scientific evidence that states some dogs can smell cancer in the human body (Benjamin). While cancer is definitely terrible to find, early detection can make all the difference, and having a dog can be that difference. Not only can dogs cause their owners to be more active, but they can also save their lives. It is no secret that dogs long ago earned their label as "man's best friend". It only makes sense, considering that dogs have been owned by humans since ancient times. Pets are obviously great companions for just about anyone. However, for someone suffering from depression, anxiety, or another mood disorder, the companionship of a pet can be the only thing giving them happiness. Dogs are perfect for shy people who still seek ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Pet Adoption For centuries, humankind has enjoyed the unconditional love and companionship of pets. Inclusively, dogs have been stated as "man's best friends." By far, pets have become a bigger role in people's lives. Consequently, pet ownership has turned out to be more popular through the years. Owning a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences, but there is a fact that many individuals may not know. From what kind of places are people obtaining their pets? The two most presumed options are narrowed down to either buying at a pet store or adopting from a shelter. Even though people can get a pet from either option, there are many reasons why adopting is undoubtedly a smarter choice. Animal shelters serve for a bigger purpose, and that is to help the community and its animals. Prospective pet owners should choose pet adoption because of its health, economic, and life benefits. Pet adoption brings myriad health benefits. One of these benefits is the loyal companionship of shelter animals. GAWS shelter's acting chief executive, Mia Shaw states, "There are big positives for a person's mental and physical wellbeing in adopting a pet – there are so many benefits to adopting a dog or cat, including companionship and friendship" (qtd. in Sum 19). These animals help human beings physically and mentally by providing another incentive to exercise, and by providing a steady companionship. These benefits could potentially save the lives of depressed people and improve the lives of incapacitated people. Inclusively, shelter animals reduce stress and other health–related issues. Rescue cat owner, Lisa Barley notes, "Not only will you benefit from the joys of a furry friend's unconditional love, but a pet can have a positive impact on your health, from helping you stay physically active to reducing stress and lowering blood pressure" (48). Adopting a pet is much like obtaining a best friend, who will provide unconditional love and support when the person needs it the most. Furthermore, most of the shelter animals are caged for days or even months, resulting in being restricted from social environments. Consequently, these animals end up being friendlier when they are adopted and placed in a steady home, unlike the ones obtained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet intervention is often reserved for those who have the will to step up when others don't feel empowered to do so. Reducing the incidence of cruelty and healing the wounds of cruelty is our primary concern. Our Safe Zone program wants community members, kids, and families to respond to our outreach and concern with animal brutality by joining us in spreading the awareness and knowledge to others on this issue, whether it's by acts of kindness or just simply being aware. Our intent is to empower individuals to stand up for humane treatment of animals. We serve people who need assistance with their own rescue efforts. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Euthanasia In today's world, almost everybody has a pet, we depend on them to give us comfort, love and care, vice versa but while we show our utmost affection to our pets, there are other pets in this world that get neglected and treated bad. About 3 million pets get euthanized each year because no one is able to adopt them. According to an article written on dallas news by Sarah Mervosh, she states "DAS (Dallas Animal Shelter) has successfully reduced euthanasia, despite being underfunded compared with other cities. About 60 percent of dogs get out of the shelter alive today –– up from 30 percent five years ago. Still, nearly 70 percent of the 8,500 or so dogs euthanized in Dallas last year were assessed as "treatable," meaning they were more adoptable than dogs with major health problems." The number of euthanasia has gone down but our goal is to completely get rid of the concept of euthanizing pets since we believe that euthanization is a cruel thing to do and pets who are innocent and do not deserve this shouldn't be going through all of this that is why we at petco are taking matters into our own hands. Our initiative is to help underfunded animal shelters in the DFW metroPlex have better resources so that they can provide good care to pets that enter animal shelters each year. We are targeting four animal shelters that need our attention. Our goal is to bring in funds and other resources to animal shelters in need of support. To fulfill our dream of getting rid of any signs of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Adoption Debate When we speak about adoptions, we commonly think about a couple going into a legal contract to care for a child that they themselves did not bear or we may think about a pet. With both of these cases there are careful considerations that we need to take into account. For a child the parents to be may be thinking about if they want a boy or a girl, what kind of diapers and formula to purchase, and how to furnish the room, just to mention a few things. For a pet we will take into consideration the species and the breed. Do we want a dog, cat, fish, snake, and what are the implications of having that pet. What is the best type of nourishment, shelter, and care is widely researched. If we spend so much time researching all of these things for children and pets; why are we not spending the time that we need in researching our plants? After all, without the proper shelter, nutrition and care plants will not be able to flourish.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This raises the question: How is this possible? In order to understand the validity of the statement we must first understand our past. If anyone were to state that there is an African influence in Egyptian history most of us would not think to challenge this statement due to the close proximity of Egypt and Africa. When you take that into account, it would be hard to grasp the concept that there would be an African influence in America before Columbus due to the distance in between Africa and America. It is interesting to know that "the negroid element is well proven by the large Olmec stone mountains "(Sertima, 1976 p. 21), therefore we must take into account that there was an African influence in America before Columbus had arrived. For many of us this is a hard concept to grasp, after all it does go against everything we were taught in history class as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Strict Animal Shelter Policies Can Cause Pets I Was Stressed so I Ate a Wall, Pooped White for a Week, Then Was Returned to the Animal Shelter Allison Gray in her article "How Strict Animal Shelter Policies Can Cause Pets to Suffer," offers a harsh critique that animal shelters hold a very strict adoption process by not allowing unqualified pet owners to adopt. She argues that adoption shelters want to find the perfect owner, but the perfect owner does not exist by her claims. Therefore, pets are not adopted out and are left to suffer in animal shelters. With the guidelines forpet adoption already in place she states that most pets were not adopted out because prospecting owners had an intact pet at home, their current pet was overdue for vaccines and they wanted an outdoor cat. She exudes that it is the shelters harsh policies that are keeping pets from being adopted out and finding their forever home. In my view, however, it is the owners, and not the shelters fault that unwanted pets swarm animal shelters. While it is true that some shelters can be over zealous with adoption rules, it is still the owners fault that these animals ended up in animal control in the first place. According to the American Humane Society over 29% of pets are returned to animal shelters simply because a person's place of residence does not allow pets (2). This means that the prospecting owner lied on the application to adopt. Steve Bruno in his article "Rescue Me" informs that "Rescue dogs suffer from disproportionately from ... Almost any kind of dogs can be found at a shelter. I think people should always adopt from the shelter because, they have the potential to be great dogs, and all they need is some extra love. Animal shelters desperately need more people to come to them for dog adoptions. People adopt from breeders and stores without realizing that shelters are overcrowded. When a shelter runs out of rooms for the dogs, they get euthanized. Shelter dogs just need people who care to give them a home. Each year 670,000 dogs are euthanized in shelters. This used to be my initial reaction almost every time ads of animal adoption agencies came on TV. This is also probably the general reaction of most viewers when presented with such sad images. We all prefer to watch those funny videos of dogs standing on two legs or cats wearing silly outfits. And of course that's fine; we all need a little entertainment from time to time. But knowing where these great companions of humans come from or where they may ultimately end up could surprise you. Loving pets of all sizes and shapes are waiting in animal shelters, hoping to find a permanent home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You also get literature on caring for your new pet, plus support and guidance from shelter staff if you have questions. Shelter pets make wonderful companions. Some have never had a home, others were abandoned or surrendered by their previous owners. Some are the victims of divorce, illness, allergies, a new baby, inexperienced owners, a move that didn't include them, and many other reasons. But most shelter pets are loving animals who are grateful to have a second chance at a happy life. They can and do bond with their new owners, and become the most devoted and loving of family pets. You save a life, and do your part in combatting pet overpopulation. A sad fact of life is that there are far too many homeless pets than there are loving homes to care for them. When you adopt from a shelter, you save a life and free up a cage for another needy animal waiting to be adopted. Your money goes towards running the shelter, pet education, and spay/neuter surgery. All of this, and you gain a loving companion too! I rescused my cat Luna two years ago from a man selling kittens on craigslist. When I picked her up I took her to the vet the next day and they told me she was malnourished, infested with fleas and needed multiple shots. I spent my entire paycheck on her so I could save her life. It was heartbreaking to know someone could sell animals they didnt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Personal Narrative: My Dream Shelters Program My dream outreach program would be to help promote the adoption of adult dogs in shelters everywhere. So many dogs across the US are left in shelters afraid, alone and lots of them don't survive. The statistics of adult dogs being adopted vs. a puppy are low, puppies always go faster in a shelter. Many of these adult dogs in shelters were once someone's loving pet. With shelters being over populated many of these dogs are never adopted and euthanized. Love without a Paws program will help adult dogs 1 year of age and more to be adopted. The program will be managed by myself with local volunteers who will promote the program with advertisement also partnered with sponsors who will provide the services. Love without a Paws will team up with sponsors like Petsmart to offer free training classes and education about adult dogs and, local shelters will offer affordable vet visits for adopting an adult dog from their shelter. Secondly adopting an adult dog will be less work than adopting a puppy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Puppies require an abundance of training time, exercise, and socialization with other animals and people. Those things are essential for them to be comfortable in the world and become wonderful dogs. Puppies will have accidents in the house, chew, get into things and make messes. For these reasons they require a lot of your time, so they know what you want and don't want them to do. It's recommended for first–time dog owners to start with an adult dog if you cannot devote the time necessary to socialize, train and exercise a puppy properly. With an adult dog you know what you're getting, you can see they're physical traits and get a basic idea of their temperament. • 16. Descriptive Essay On Animal Abuse An Animal Extravaganza's Galore Animals are the beginning of the best nerve wrecking filled love you could ever dream of for your entire existence. Ever since I was a young child, I've always resonated with the everlasting idea of helping animals more so than anyone and anything else in this world. My love for animals had begun when I was a mere two years old. I've always had pets: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. I remember the joy I'd felt when my parents brought my dogs and I to the park. To find out more information about how to help adoptable animals in shelters, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a community outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. • 17. Hypoallergenic Informative Speech Before I discuss what is causing the allergies I have some interesting facts for you. The prefix "hypo" means "less than" and thus the word hypoallergenic tells the kitten/cat buyer that the breeder believes the cat to to produce fewer allergens than other cats. How is this measured or regulated – well it isn't. There are no legal regulations defining allergens (let alone allergens in cats), nor are there any guidelines. So the world "hypoallergenic" has very little meaning. Around 2–15% of the worlds population is allergic to cats and 1/3 of these have a cat in their home. • 18. Persuasive Essay : The Euthanasia Of Animals The euthanasia of animals is a very problematic social issue in the world today. Approximately there are about 7.6 million companion animals that enter animal shelters each year. Of those, about 2.7 animals are euthanized, and cats have the highest rate, according to "The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals" (2017). When you hear the term euthanasia in reference to animals, you think of a painless process that ends the countless suffering your pet had to endure over the span of their lives. There are many reasons for which these animals are "put to sleep." When most pet owners put their pets to sleep it is because their pets have incurable disease, painful illness, behavioral problems and are of old age. When an animal is suffering and is no longer able to recover, this process may be the most humane thing to do. However, euthanasia turns into murder when perfectly healthy animals are killed. Since there is an overpopulation of animals there are many animals left on the street wandering alone. When there isn't any room for all these new animals being brought in from off the streets, shelters have no other option, but to euthanize. Each year more and more dogs and cats are born and sent into shelters, but for every animal being born another one has to leave and once the animal leave they are most likely going to be euthanized. No matter the situation animals are losing their lives for no clear reason. Nowadays, shelters don't have enough funds to save a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Persuasive Essay Against Animal Shelter Many animals are sitting in a shelter of some sort this very second and we take our pets for granted ignoring those pets who are less fortunate. Animals should be adopted from shelters to help save their lives and make their lives also better in a number of ways. Many of the animals in shelters get put down or don't have the funding to care for the animals in the shelters and have to then do anything in their power to get rid of the animal to prevent the idea of killing the animal. Animals deserve a second chance to be free again before being killed in a shelter. • 21. Why Animal Shelters Need To Do Home Checks When adopting a dog, most people worry about which type of animal they want and the price they are willing to pay. Adopting at shelters is easier because of the opportunity of hearing their story and falling in love with the animal. After finding the right soulmate, there is a process that everyone must go through. First, there is a test to make sure the animal loves its soon to be owner. Then, there is paperwork, and finally there is a home check to make sure the animal will be safe. Sadly, many shelters around the world are too lazy for a thirty minute home check, making some animal's lives endangered. I believe all shelters need to do home checks because they will provide the reassurance that the animal will be free of abuse and will be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doing a home check while having the animal up for adoption there would provide the reassurance that the animal is comfortable in their new forever home. It would make sure they do not get scared of objects or people in the environment. This would help lower the euthanasia percent for animals as well. In the article, "Animal Shelter Euthanasia" by the website AnimalHumane, sixty–four percent of animals attack because of aggression, overcrowding, or objects that they are scared of. Studies from "When Dogs Attack" by the website CesarsWay, says that many animals attack due to loud noises or large objects in the home. Some animals get so scared they could bite someone's fingers off! They are frightened and use attacking as a self–defense method. Then, innocent animals are euthanised because of those attacks. It is dreadful to hear about animals who attacked because they felt scared, or were because they were in an unsafe environment. Home checks could prevent animals' likeliness to attack because it would be obvious if the animal was comfortable in the environment. This would lower the euthanasia rate and save animal's precious lives. Invading privacy Many people would think a shelter would be invading their home when doing a home check, and would rather go to a shelter where one doesn't have to go through all the paperwork and wait for a home check. This process could take weeks depending on the adoption. TheShelterProject, a website, states in their article, "Pet Adoption" that owners have the right to privacy in their home or environment. Plus, shelters with home checks could take days to weeks whereas shelters without them could take minutes to an hour. It is an easier way, but not the safer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you have truly evaluated your time, money and housing restrictions and still feel it is the right choice for you, then it is time for you to understand the adoption process and how it works. • 24. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Adoption The social issue I have chosen is pet adoption and why people should choose this way of finding an animal companion, as opposed to buying one. This is an issue because across the United States, there is an overpopulation or mistreatment of dogs and cats every day. Animal shelters take in these animals and care for them as much as they can. Animal shelter intakes are anything from those picked up by an animal control, surrendered by owners, or rescued from reports of animal cruelty. In the United States, approximately 5–12 million companion animals enter animal shelters annually and approximately 1–4 million of these are euthanized. The Wood County Humane Society, located in Bowling Green, OH, is one of the several shelters that care for animals in need of help. There are many reasons why so many animals are in need of adoption, the main concerns being: breeding facilities, puppy mills, and strays. The breeders' profit at an animal's expense because for every animal bred, an animal in a shelter loses its chance of finding a home. Inbreeding can also cause painful and even life–threatening health effects to the animals and while some breeders sell healthy, well–treated animals, other breeders may be abusive. Another reason is puppy mills, or commercial dog breeding facilities, in which the health and welfare of the animals are not the main priority. There are an estimated 10,000 mills in the US, producing about 2 million puppies each year. The last main reason is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Countless people choose to adopt, regardless, if you are deciding to adopt 1 child or 10 children you have made an enormous decision. Offering a family to a child that feels like he/she belong nowhere is life altering. As seen with Staci and Eric Dennis of Virginia who decided they would try to ensure that at least one person did not go through life without a family. After going to classes, then getting certified they adopted Kylie, according to Staci, the changes in Kylie after the adoption was like watching a butterfly come out of the cocoon in fast motion (Dennis). According to the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) as of September 30, 2015 there were 427,910 children in the foster care system just in the United States. While 243,060 left the system in 2015, another 269,509 entered the system during the same year. Although, these numbers change daily, there is no shortage of children waiting for a family; as of September 30, 2015, there were 111,820 children waiting to be adopted in the US. Some of these children have been separated from their parents, but are still with their siblings. • 26. Persuasive Essay On Animal Adoption Adopt or Buy? Many people buy the pets they want, but there are rarely any human beings that actually adopt. Let me ask you a simple question. Do you usually buy your pets from a breeder, or do you actually go out and search for the one to adopt? Many of you will say buy from a breeder, but that's okay. Let me just list my facts and you think them over. Maybe I can get your opinion to change. Logos. Facts. Adopting. It means saving one of the more than six million cats, dogs, or countless other animals who enter U.S. animal shelters EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Adopting is never buying any type of animal. What's the difference between a pet store and an animal shelter? This is one of the most asked questions over this topic. And the answer? Profit. Pet stores. Pet stores sell animals only for the money or profit they can get off that animal. Animal shelters are there to save lives. Get an animal off the street. Animal shelters take unwanted, stray, or abandoned animals. Now you may be thinking about anadoption fee. Wouldn't that basically count as buying? Absolutely not. Shelters use the adoption fee so they can get more positive things for the animals. Food, medicine, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and other important things for your new companion needs. In other words, your money is going to help animals. Still not convinced adopting is better? Let's take a look at some examples. To convince an audience of the author's credibility or character. Ethical appeal; Ethos. "Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for a new pet. I also provided the dogs with the opportunity to get out of their small enclosure and to feel the grass underneath their paws. While speaking to one of the workers I was told that the animals do not get to come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they depend a lot on the donations from the public. Which means that they can only hire the exact amount of people that will help perform the necessary duties but they lack the extra help that can help with taking the dogs out or grooming the cats. This means that the community members, depending on the type of animal, will provide a starting kit which include food, bedding, and a scratching post to the adopters. The animals who were sponsor by the community are cats that are older or have been at the shelter longer than the rest. The first thing you should think about is whether you should adopt a pet from a shelter or whether you should buy one from a breeder. There are pros and cons for each one, but you really need to consider both thoughts. I'm sure you are worried about adopting from a shelter, because you don't know where they came from, how they were treated, or how mean they are but little do you know, there are also cons with buying from a breeder. They could be bred wrong, they could be abused, or they could also be mean. Not all breeders know what they are doing and there's always a chance of getting a pet you don't want, but you need to pay attention to all the abused animals in the shelters to help them out, rather than helping out the breeders just so they can "raise money". • 36. Persuasive Essay On Animals If you aren't concerned with innocent animals being euthanized because they aren't getting adopted then stop reading here. Every year thousands of sheltered and animals are being euthanized due to the fact that people don't want to adopt them. By finding bright spots in shelters such as similarities between animals that are adopted, and then find out how to spread those characteristics to other animals in the shelter. I'll be researching potential ways to increase the animals' happiness and then hopefully their personalities will change as well. Every year there are thousands of animals abused, neglected, or left for dead. The purpose of Humane Societies and Shelters are to give a temporary home to animals in need, as well as feed them. Being treated badly affects these animal's personalities in various negative ways. Some become very shy and skittish, while others become hostile and mean. Shelters put their found animals up for adoption after giving them all their required shots, and a large portion get adopted by a loving family. What happens to the remaining that do not get adopted? They are euthanized because people simply do not want them. To euthanize an animal is to "put it down" because it either puts people and animals' lives in danger, or shelters simply don't have the room or resources to care for them during their later years. Last year, across the US, about 1.5 animals are euthanized in order to make room in shelters. This may seem like a lot, but this is actually a decrease since 2011, where that number was up to 2.6 million. This is almost half of all rescued animals, because about 3.2 were adopted last year. My plan is to visit our local shelter, and observe the differences between animals that are going to be adopted and animals that may be euthanized. Finding what makes certain animals more appealing than others is very important, so I can help other animals share those traits, and appeal to the public more. My long–term goal is to change the behavior of the person, not the animal, because what's wrong with the animal may not be its struggle, but rather what it doesn't have that people look for. For example, if we find that dogs with bright colored blankets and a stuffed bear inside their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike pet stores which are usually privately–owned, some shelters are managed by the local government, and are even funded by the taxes we pay. Some shelters, on the other hand, are managed by non–government organizations and are funded by donations and charitable contributions. Some of these shelters may even be associated with animal welfare organizations which provide guidelines on operating the shelter as well as educating the staff, pet owners, and the community. Debunking the myths about shelter animals There are some myths regarding adopting an animal in a shelter that should be debunked. Among these are the following: * Animals in shelters are usually bad–tempered and cannot make good pets. The truth is, there are several reasons why animals end up in shelters. For one, their owners cannot take care of their pets anymore due to health issues, death, or relocation to another place where pets are not allowed.
